It's Time! $upporters ¢hoice Stream Reveal
As you might remember, I asked $upporters to vote the project for Monday's stream. The options were:
A guestbook starter
An ao3 fic to markdown (for Obsidian) downloader
A plugin to allow loading ALT text from files (using unifiedjs)
Continuing the RobinBoob rebuild
And the winner is.... 🥁🥁🥁 The RobinBooB rebuild continues!
Was I expecting this outcome? Not really. In hindsight it makes sense: people currently supporting me are likely following for my existing projects, and what project is more impactful than buying fictional OTPs?
However, I also (non-bindingly) asked people on socials. Here's the final tally and some observations:
(the numbers are tiny, so one shouldn't read too much into them, but what's the fun in that?
Robinboob won the $upporters poll (both on Patreon and my newsletter, as well as total), but tied for #1 at best outside
Tumblr got the most votes as a platform and somehow managed to have 3 different projects with the same amount of votes?
ALT text plugin is the least popular choice, which is understandable cause those plugins aren't that useful if you aren't using something that supports them (like Astro)
AO3 seems to be a slight winner over the guestbook choice (though the small sample size makes this not very significant). Probably brand recognition™.
What do I think of the results? Honestly, I'm surprised guestbooks weren't more popular. I think the majority of people in my network don't see themselves as people who would build a website that could use a guestbook, nor probably build a website in the first place. Changing this perception will take time, and probably include a lot of work to lower the barrier of entry even more, as well as building the infrastructure to make indie blogs more useful and appealing.
This is all for this month! If your favorite project didn't win this time don't despair: it's not the last you heard of them. With numbers this small, signing up to be a $upporter (on Patreon or my personal newsletter) is an easy way to tip the scales!
Anyway,
See you Monday at 3PM PST on Twitch, for more RobinBoob rebuilding!

One of the main characters in "TFOT". Del Lotcorn. Fun fact the similarity of his surname to "corn" is completely coincidental, I only noticed it myself a couple of months ago. So yeah, he's a corn-guy
