This piece has been sitting on my computer for too long and it was time I just finished it. I’ve been wanting to draw something based on the amazing game ‘Hyper Light Drifter’ for a while and ended up making a still from the intro sequence.
does amber isle run on real time like animal crossing?
Hi There! 💚 Good question!
Amber Isle runs on it's own time cycle rather than real time. Time in the game is segmented into Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Night, and changes every time you do an action in the game, like opening your shop or visiting the village - this way you can spend as much time in each segment as you want!
We didn't want to stress players with time constraints (for example, we don't want to lock certain players off from content only available at certain times), and we felt real time was too slow. Life gets busy, so you shouldn't be penalised for taking a break 🦕🧡
[ID: A gifset containing four gifs from the puzzle game Liyla and The Shadows of War.
Gif 1 shows the player character, Liyla’s father, being knocked to his knees by a blast from a missile striking a building behind him.
Gif 2 shows Liyla’s father pushing at debris to make it fall in order to solve a puzzle.
Gif 3 presents Liyla making a suggestion. “Daddy, we should hide in the UNRWA school,” she suggests. The player has two options: “OK, let’s go!” and “No, we should go.”
Gif 4 shows Liyla and her father near a destroyed building. Liyla’s father asks her, “Liyla, are you OK?”
Liyla and The Shadows of War is a personal historical puzzle game about the invasion of Gaza. Living in a war zone, try to survive with your family against unjust circumstances as time runs against you. Make quick decisions to progress through different events and puzzles, all while avoiding bombs, drones, and other dangers.
For Android, iOS, and Windows.
Developed by Rasheed Abueideh, a father of two kids who created this game to communicate his emotions and fears while living as a Palestinian under such dangerous circumstances. In his words, “It's not Just a Game, it's a case and call for help.”
All my life I've loved video games, and Nintendo has held a special place in my heart. My partner and I not only worked our butts off and burned through all our savings putting our hearts into developing Mythic Ocean, but we persevered through rejection, dejection, and doubt. Tooth and claw we were finally able to accomplish what at times felt impossible, and I'm so happy to say that our game is now available for the Switch.
It's a dream come true and I want to be able to share our game with as many people as possible. Would really appreciate anyone checking Mythic Ocean out and spreading the word. Getting our work out into the world and on a Nintendo platform is a dream, but discoverability is still a nightmare.
*Edit: for all the peeps lamenting their lack of Switch, it’s available for PC too and coming soon to XBOX One and PS4!
The Indie Bundle for Palestinian Aid is live and it includes over a thousand incredible games for $5 (donating more is encouraged)! 100% of the profits will be donated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.

I really want to boost this indie game called Venba that is currently in development at Visai Games.
It’s a narrative game about cooking, where you play as an Indian mom who has moved to Canada in the 1980s. Your recipe book is damaged, so you’ll have to restore those lost recipes, while also having branching conversations with your family, and of course, cooking Indian food.
There’s a Steam page for the game up here, and here’s the developers’ Twitter.
This is the sort of game that can easily fly under the radar, so please help boost an original game with a unique premise!
[ID: A photoset containing four images of the interactive book Puhaorangi.
Image 1 shows cover art of the mythologic figure Puhaorangi standing in front of a spectral background with glowing eyes.
Image 2 shows a man and woman together looking at each other. A text box beneath them reads: “Toitehuatahi is a great explorer he is a wise and loving chief who cares for his people. Te Kuranuiomona his wife of high birth, a loving wife who works tirelessly for her family. Her beauty is known throughout the length of the land. Such is the meaning of her name. The sacred gift of Monoa. And it seems that even the heavens have been smitten by her.”
Image 3 shows Puhaorangi with his back to the viewer as he steps towards a cosmic sky. A text box in the foreground reads: “Without a moment to lose he drove his heel into his waka and commanded his companion forward, there was no hesitation from Amokura as they surged into the stream of Te Unuhanga, the brightness was too strong for Puhaorangi who raised his forearm over his eyes, the noise was piercing but on they travelled no sooner had they entered-- the chaos ceased.”
Image 4 shows Te Kuranuiomona standing in a jungle-like area of plants and trees. Her finger is extended towards a bird on a branch. A text box reads: “As she makes her way towards him he hears her whisper, ‘Such a thing of beauty-- oh Tāne I greet you!’. Enriched with joy by these warm words, he fills his lungs with air therefore extending his breast in a display of bravery and acknowledgement. Te Kuranuiomona folds her fore digit, touches her nose and extends it out towards Puhaorangi.”
Puhaorangi is an interactive story book about the origins, exploits, and descendants of the Te Arawa ancestor and superhero, Puhaorangi! Learn from whom Puhaorangi descends from, where his superhero abilities came from, and what led him to traverse the solar system. Story author Raimona Inia also sees Puhaorangi as “the first Māori astronaut!”
