i don't think we've talked enough about the meaning behind fare well. i feel like he is talking about how we can live life with both sorrow and happiness, that we can only know the happy times if we have the bad times as well.
and the different MEANINGS he puts to the word fare well... "wouldn't fare well" has the meaning of "not doing well/to not succeed well" but "couldn't fare well" could also mean "i couldn't say goodbye". BUT ALSO, when he talks about the whale swimming up sumida gawa, he is talking not only about something that is unsuccessful and impossible to happen, but the whale also "wouldn't fare well" in the sense of not having a good trip.
i think my favourite verses from this song though are "let the sun only shine on me through a falling sky, i'll be alright". this ones, besides the following verses of the post-chorus, hold the whole meaning of the song. the world may fall, everything will fall apart, but eventually the sun will shine through the cracks and everything will be okay. because this is life, and we can sometime feel pain, anger, sadness, despair, but the sun will come eventually. we only know what happiness is because we know how sadness feels like. and we live and keep on living. so, i think accepting both sides of life is part of living in peace with it.

Mega Man Star Force 2 OST - T19: Melody of Isolation (Theme of Rogue)
So Idk about other folks, but my brain translates the notes into lyrics, and this is what I hear: [it’s a bit long, so I put it under a read more.]
[music by Capcom, lyrics by me.]
[Wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
you’ve tried to challenge me?
Oh I’ll just prove you wrong
just
look at me, look at you
who’ll win this?
You rely on other people
I will do this all on my own
on my own
don’t believe me?
I’ll just, I’ll just
have to prove it to you! ~
Really
really
really
really
really
really
Wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
you value all your links
But
I just walk alone
and
can’t you see
there’s no use
in thinking
that you’ll beat me anymore
I live will live in my isolation
isolation
You’ll never know!!
know
what I’ve had to go through
Really
really
really
really
really
really
Wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
you’ve tried to challenge me?
Oh I’ll just prove you wrong
just
look at me, look at you….]

kiss me, like long ago
kiss me, i’m still yours
kiss me, i loved you
father john misty kinda described my mood today cuz it was amazing but now i want to cry because...i saw him...and i miss him, and...he kissed me and that made me so weak. i was fine. i knew i was fine. i was getting over it. i was getting over him. and just...now i’m not.

i know ‘fireworks’ by mitski isn’t necessarily about getting better, but when she says “one morning this sadness will fossilize and i will forget how to cry” and “and then one warm summer night i’ll hear fireworks outside and i’ll listen to the memories as i cry cry cry” i like to think it’s about getting better and overcoming a battle. that’s what i’ve always thought of it; “this too, shall pass”
