The year was 1971, and a young Cree teenager named Helen Betty Osborne wrapped up a typical day of school in northern Manitoba with laughter and friendship. Little did she know that hours later, she would become the victim of a heinous hate crime that exposed the deep-seated racism and injustice faced by Indigenous communities in Canada.

I found Black Sun unexpectedly different in terms of writing style from Trail of Lightning but I thoroughly enjoyed this epic, Meso-American inspired world. Roanhorse genuinely surprised me with her depiction of some classic creatures and the grande finale left me on the edge of my seat.
