This amazing woman died shortly after the Academy FINALLY apologized to her for the hell they put her through.
Sacheen Littlefeather was an amazing actress, model, activist…most of her life was fighting for what was right. Im glad people are finally noticing her in a proper light and she knew it…but sad it took way too damn long.
John Wayne wanted to punch her on stage, taking the stand for Brando led to her being blacklisted. And she just kept on truckin

Today is Red dress day. Remember and Honour all of the Native Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two spirits that have gone missing and have been murdered. Most of these cases are never heard in the public and they are sadly forgotten. Today I want to spread awareness for all Indigenous people, I want to share my culture and help others understand the importance of sharing stories from these victims.
I will be donating as well on this day to several sites that support native women and girls. And also a few sites that want to protect ICWA. I suggest you do the same but if you are not financially able to then spread awareness respectfully.🧡🧡
(I’m doing Donation commission 50% of the profits go to NICWA! this post-> https://www.tumblr.com/walterdoodles/719214714265255936/im-opening-up-some-donation-commissions-if-you )

Just gonna slide this on here and say this is at the Field Museum and as far as I know it’s here to stay along with a new addition to the Native Americas that elaborates even further about the colonization and the impact and how you are on stolen land and that indigenous peoples are still here
So yea

Something The Same, Yet New
The Winter People by Joseph Bruchac and Gilbert Phelps
Tumblr media
◈◈◈◈
This is a historical fiction about a young Native American man. Placed during the French and British War, his people decided to side with the French. One day as dusk settled in they were ambushed and his mother along with his younger sister were taken hostage. While his people had to stay behind to help the wounded, he left alone to bring back his family before it was too late.
So many I hear talk about how we should leave the past behind us as they say "It's history", "Forget about it, don't let the past make who you are now" and "Start a new, your past doesn't matter"
Should we really never look back though? Should we really forget it all? Like the words of our favorite stories that we carry with us, should we not learn from mistakes and knowledge of ourselves, our parents, and our grandparents? Does all of our mistakes, our parents' mistakes, age, and knowledge amount to nothingness? As it has also been said, "Know the dark, but let it rest"
This is a story that starts off a little slow but is steady and with a clear purpose in mind. I enjoyed reading a book that uses a topic like this in its story. The writers are also well-versed in the history and culture in which they write. You will find that this is a story that can be enjoyed by children, parents, and grandparents alike.
