Statement of Intent - Unnamed Project 🐶
Soooooo I've decided I should start a side project! After all, I made a blog to post about games I make- I might as well start now! I want to make a 2D Platformer with cute aesthetics and casual gameplay that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I want to experiment and make a movement system that is satisfying to the player.
Current concept includes- Shapeshifting MC! I want my main protagonist to shift between being a dog and being a human- each form has different traits that need to be utilized to complete levels.
I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on something like this! It would be a free game that could be played online on my itch.io - I don't see it taking much longer than 2 weeks to prototype (with most of the time needing to be spent on the art as I am not the best at art ;~;)

Hi I am thinking of doing a project about Mexican art and how it influenced video games for one of my classes and all I can think of for examples are just Grim Fandango. Are there any other games that use/are inspired by Mexican art that you know about or anything like that? If not that's ok, was just wondering
Hey, moot! Sorry for the delay in reply!
So other than Grim Fandango (which is obviously my favorite), there are a few I can think of, although I wish there were more. The first one that comes to mind is Guacamelee, although I never really got into that game, myself. Still, a lot of the art style is very cute and colorful and inspired by lucha libre and papel picado designs.
Another game by Tim Schafer that has some inspiration is Psychonauts, in the Black Velvetopia area. It's more Spanish design than Mexican, but there's a lot of overlap, including luchadores and some poster designs that look inspired by the lithography of José Guadalupe Posada. I haven't seen confirmation of this, but I would believe it, since the mural in the train station in Grim Fandango is also reminiscent of painter José Clemente Orozco.
On the indie front, the platformer Imp of the Sun is based on Maya and Inca mythology and design, and the upcoming Ecumene Azteca looks very promising. I'm keeping my eye on it; it's a survival RPG where you get to kill Spanish conquistadors, so what's not to love?
There is, of course, the Super Mario Odyssey inspirations used in the Sand Kingdom. While they're a little stereotypical of the kind of souvenirs tourists usually like, I think they're pretty cute. It isn't meant to be taken that seriously.
Of course, there are always games like Call of Juarez, Tomb Raider, Red Dead Revolver/Redemption, (to an extent) Far Cry 6, and Desperados that all borrow locations and design from Mexico/Latin America in some way. A lot of the most well-known games in the setting are, of course, games that feature "lost" Aztec relics, the cartel, or the wild west in some way. Of all of these, I feel Red Dead Redemption and Far Cry handle the subjects the best, although Red Dead more explicitly so. (I may also be biased because I'm a huge Giancarlo Esposito fan lmao)
On the 8-bit front, there were a couple, I think... I remember both Aztec and Montezuma's Revenge, though I can't remember what systems my dad had them on. Could've been NES, Apple II, Commodore, or Atari. Regardless, they sucked. lol
There is also, tangentially, a little-known point-and-click game called "The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizza Boy," based on a comic book by Mike Mignola. I love this series, but technically it is set in Lisbon, Portugal. That said, the series and in particular the game was worked on by Argentinian, Brazilian, and Meixcan artists, and I feel the style very much lends itself to the underground Latin graphic novel styles of the early 00's.
Past that, there's precious little else, until you start getting into other game categories besides video games. At least nothing good; I think there might be a shovelware "La Llorona" game or something.
One of my favorites, though, that I've saved for last is a little inide game called El Hijo. It's an adventure game in the vein of Limbo/Inside or A Boy and His Blob, and while the gameplay itself is nothing special, the story and the art style are fantastic. It's oozing with charm and attention to detail, and I enjoyed it quite a lot. It felt a lot more in love with its setting and the culture than some of the aforementioned games do.
I hope this helps! Good luck with your project! If I can think of anything more, I'll RB this again.

Fanfic Ask game 12 ?
Woo thanks!!
12. What is you favorite theme/subject matter/trop/ship to write about? Why?
Sorry for the delay! I had to think about this and ended up falling asleep lol.  Obviously (and hopefully not obnoxiously) I enjoy writing for the ryotaku ship, although I'm not 100% sure why this one burrowed into my brain so bad and for SO LONG. I guess it's partly the main character effect (I consider them deutoragonists, fite me), and I also know I am traditionally huge sucker for characters who share color scheme alignments. And I'm not just talking about season 2 hair lmao. also Third Stage, and their 2nd race in particular. I distinctly remember watching this sequence for the first time and thinking “wtf this wasn't in the manga, this is a 100% whole cloth addition where a creative team went 'You know what Initial D needs more of? Homoerotic tension *dumps a heaping spoonful* ' and why does this have the vibe like I'm witnessing the acceptance of a marriage proposal for fucks sake"
I have the impression that this ship and my takes are not super common, so I am conscientious about being in anyway obnoxious about this. Hitting me with a  spray bottle is acceptable
More generally from IniD, though, I don't know if this counts as a theme or trope, but I get psyched whenever I can figure out creative, non-verbal ways to clue the reader in to a character's mental state, such as the state of their surroundings, state of their appearance, or repeating certain important objects & symbols, stuff like that. Also playing the "what's real or not real?" game where a character might perceive something that's real to them, but IS IT?  Or maybe both? Schrodinger's symbolism

6 9 11 for the game
ask game
6 - Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it) Ooh, tough one. I guess the way I draw mouths will always somehow go back to IniD, maybe it doesnt look like it but meanwhile and after i do it it just feels that way, yknow? even if im not into it anymore but I guess some things will stick with you forever
9 - What are your file name conventions Name them what they are but make it a little cringe. That piece with the trees and a dying elf? 'fucking died' the one with a guy kissing a railway crane? 'extendable wife' and if i have a finished piece but have to change a lot on it WHILE i have a final png its 'rods in sky->rods in the sks->fuckingrods->kurva anyád'
11 - Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what Oh lotsa things, but mainly something that fits the theme of what im drawing but especially something more energetic and fast paced and NEVER putting them on loop, only manually resetting because somehow looping makes me lose the drive i have to do something.

Fez
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fez is a 2012, an Inide puzzle platform game. The game Fez is a two-dimensional puzzle platform game, and it's set in a three-dimensional world. Fez was developed by Polytron Corporation, and it was published by Trapdoor. Fez had a player character. gomez receives a fez that reveals his two-dimensional world to be one of four sides of a three-dimensional world. The player can rotate between these four 2D views to be a realign platform and solve puzzles. The objective is to collect cubes and cube fragments to restore order to the universe.
The game was called an "underdog darling of the indie game scene" during its high profile and protracted five year development cycle. The game Fez is a designer and Polytron founder Phil fish gained celebrity status for his outspoken public persona and his prominence in the 2012 documentary Indie game - The movie which detailed Fez's final stages of development and Polytron's related legal issues. The Fez game met critical acclaim upon its April 2012 release for Xbox Live Arcade. The game was ported to other platforms following the expiration of a yearlong exclusivity agreement.
Reviewers commended the game's emphasis on discovery and freedom but criticized its technical issues, in-game navigation, and endgame backtracking. They likened the game's rotation mechanic to the 2D–3D shifts of Echochrome, Nebulus, Super Paper Mario, and Crush. Fez won awards, including the Seumas McNally Grand Prize and Eurogamer's 2012 Game of the Year. It had sold one million copies by the end of 2013, and it influenced games such as Monument Valley, Crossy Road, and Secrets of Rætikon. A planned sequel was cancelled when Fish abruptly left game development.

Shiro Remake Dev Log - 13/01/23
First post of the year!
So now I have had a rest over december and feeling a bit fresher, I am working on not just the Indie JRPG, but also a remake of Shiro.
Why? Because I am insane and love doing like 4 things at once.
Ok, in reality I have Space Haters to finish off LotCheck issues (Nintendo's checklist), Getting There plays start to finish but needs an awesome score which R3DH4ZE is doing again and I am still cranking away at Inide JRPG. All of this requires a bit more brain power thatn I have in the evenings. But I still wanted to fele I am being productive straight after work.
The Shio remake has been on my list for ages and I learned a lot form Space haters. It is also a game I can knock out pretyt quickly and doesn't require as much brain power as the JRPG.
Also Jan/Feb evenings are pretty shit and I want soemthing to do outside of playing games, building lego and warhammer.
Basically I know how it fits together, it shouldn't;t take me too long to get onto Steam and Deck and I should be able to pump out a Switch version pretty swiftly. I won't announce anything but it will probably come before some of the other games.
I am planning to add content as we go, so it will have a low price point with free content updates in the year. I will probably start with something that sort of followed the original game (An Act 1) then add Act 2 later as an update and Act 3 as a further update.

Bendy and the ink machine alice angel voice
Tumblr media
Should you take the tunnel marked as, The Demon, you find a tape left behind by Joey Drew himself, in it he talks about the power of belief. I believe chapter three supports this theory. Some people in the fandom believe Joey is Bendy. In an attempt to keep her job, Susie talks to Joey, unbeknownst to her, however, Joey has, other, more devious plans. We hear this on the tape located in The Angel tunnel after the Alice jumpscare. Susie, who voices Alice, is devestated to hear she's being replaced, and in a time when jobs repidly dissapear, I get why she would try and prevent it. And some major budget cuts are being made. As the boss of the studio, Joey Drew has some big plans and dreams. When jobs were scarce, and the only joy people took from life was going to the movies. The events that happened before the game that sent the studio to crap likely took place in the 1920s-30s, before or during the Great Depression. Only in this case, both personalities are conscious. So, yeah, Alice has two peronalities, a real Dr. The only thing these two can agree on, is their fear of being pulled back, and of the Ink Demon, Bendy. Once again, based on just that, does it remind you of any classic disney movie? Me, I think of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and that scene when she's running through the forest. Now then, the other voice, well, we don't know much about it, other than it belongs to Susie who's determined to stay in the business, and that it bleeds through Alice's diolouge when she expresses fear. If you guessed the evil queen, Maleficent, or Mother Gothel, then you know what I'm saying. Based on those things alone, how many animated villains come to mind. The deeper voice seems to be the dominant power, and this voice is extremly vain and cruel. The final thing I want to take about before getting into the backstory, is the personalities of the voices. Take the voice actor for Aku in Samuri Jack for instance, you probably didn't notice that the voice actor was different in the final season.Īnyways, I know I promised a theory on her backstory, I know, but knowing all this is essential to completing a backstory timeline. The company has to replace them, and to stay in continuity, the new actor has to sound extremly similer. When a voice actor can't return to a character, whether it's because they died or they refused to come back. If you're going to say, "I'm fairly certain that Alice doesn't have two voices," don't worry, there's an explimation for that. Moreover, I also have reason to belive that the deeper voice not only is the 'she,' that the high-pitched voice is talking about, but considering that the only two female characters we know of are Susie, and Allison, as we learn after the Alice jumpscare, that the deep-voice belongs to Allison. I don't know about you, but that says alot, anyways, I'm not sure how many theorists picked up on that. And before that, on the way up to the lab as you're going through the feild of dead boris's, the high pitched voice explains the motive behind it, but also says, "I had to do it. As you progress and find Alices "lab," let's call it, the first thing she says to you is basically, "Do I kill you, or do I not kill you?" Take note that she says this with her deeper, more authoritive voice. Before she comes and scares you, a high pitched voice is singing her theme song, when she does scare you, her voice switches to a deeper more serious voice. Of course, this is just a list of details, I need to support and explain this. My theory: Alice Angel has the souls of two people inide of her, One being Susie Campbell, and the other being Allison Pendle.ġ: Did you notice that Alice has two voices?ģ: Alice says several things indicating that this is the case.Ĥ: Joey Drew's tape in the Demon tunnel shows that he may just be insane.ĥ: The apperant split personality Alice has closely mirriors the tropes in movies like Snow white and Sleeping Beauty. I arrived at this conclusion by analyzing her behaviors, quotes, information from the tapes, general old cartoon tropes, and logical deductions. I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet, but I think Alice has a backstory worth learning about, as it genrally effects you in chapter three.
