GREETINGS GENTLEBEINGS!! AFTER THE SUCCESS OF LAST YEAR’S EVENT, THE TRANSFORMERS RARE PAIRING COMMUNITY IS PLEASED TO PRESENT:
RARE PAIRING FEST 2022!!
Rare Pairing Fest is a now-annual event we host, with the goal of getting more of our favorite rare pair content out into the universe! Like last year, we’re going to use the new format, instead of the the 2020 and prior years format! Used to, we’d pull old prompts from the weekly request posts and put them back up again, but this year we’re bringing new prompts and you all will attach YOUR favorite rare pairs to them!
This year’s event will run from October 16-29, 2022! There will be 28 prompts (two for each day) with seasonal themes.
The prompt list is broken down by day, and posted below. You create your work and then post to Twitter, Tumblr, Dreamwidth and/or Pillowfort on the correct day. All participants will get a participation graphic, and anyone who makes a fill for all 14 days will get a special prize! There are no minimums or maximums for this event and ALL content types are accepted (including photos & hand crafts!) Also, all ratings are accepted, but please tag appropriately! And don’t forget the #2022TFRarePairingFest tag! ALSO, if you’re participating in another event (Inktober, LLFest, etc) please feel free to double dip your pieces! (No one has enough time in the day to create two or three or more pieces and Mod eerian will never expect you to!)
Now, the prompts:
October 16: Hot Drink // Leftovers
October 17: Feeling Groovy // Feeling Emotional
October 18: Date Night // Staying Home

2023 Summary of Art
Happy New Year!
On DeviantArt, I have a tradition of filling out those little art summary memes with one art work from each month. Since I'm more active on Tumblr now, I'll also post it here.
It's telling that the last time I posted a summary of art on Tumblr was 2020, when I was somewhat active with YTTD.
I like how you can tell how long I've been into MILGRAM based on this.

Inktober 2020
Day 25 - Buddy
When you're a mob boss running for his life in the woods and you find a weird giant egg and when you pick it up it hatches into a weird ass human/dragon baby thing so you make it your life goal to raise this child because he is now your son and anyone who makes fun of his ears go to sleep with the fishes.
Also if anyone asks you're retired. Trust me, it's for their sake, not yours. That kid doesn't take kindly to people messin with their papa.

OTPtember 2022 day 25. Trying out the art style that I use for my OC witches, but on Dimiclaude.
The other day (9/21/2022), I thought I should try drawing my OTPs in the style that I've been drawing OC witches for Witchtober 2022 (and since Inktober 2020): black and white monochrome; mostly simple silhouettes; omitted/minimal faces.
9/25/2022. Copic Gasenfude brush pen, Copic markers, Platinum Preppy fountain pen using Noodler's Ink. Some clean-up with white-out, Gelly Roll white gel pen, Uniball Signo 207, and Krita.
I think there's something wrong with my Copic 100 marker. I added ink refill, but the nib still makes streaky strokes. The only thing that smoothed it out was rubbing alcohol, added directly to my marker nib. So is all the ink in my marker nib clotting/drying? Why isn't adding more ink, remoisturizing it? Is my nib messed up? Should I replace it? Or is my marker barrel messed up? Should I just get a whole new marker? I've got all kinds of Copic Sketch marker problems like this: nibs with crystalizing ink clumps, nibs that stay dry no matter how much ink I add, nibs that just won't absorb more ink refill, etc. I don't know if the nib or the barrel is the problem, so I'm not sure what to replace. I will say that most of my Copic markers with problems are from the Sketch 25th anniversary set. So I don't know what's wrong with that set. Maybe it's just my specific set; maybe it's all the anniversary sets. I don't know. If anyone can help give me clues, you'd have my thanks.

Inktober Part 2
Motivation and Stress
Sunday 20/11/22
(All art in this post are my own creations)
Tumblr media
Linktober 2022 Day 25: Zelda
As an artist, a constant struggle is finding the time and effort to sit down and just do the thing. Be it motivation or inspiration, it is difficult for creatives to start (or finish) pieces of art. This applies to writers, visual artists, musicians, and any other type of creative.
This year in particular, I had multiple months where I produced maybe one or two pieces of art if I was lucky. This is because art is a hobby for me, and there is no revenue in it. Maybe it is because of my motivation that there isn't? But from experience is past years, I know that nothing gets me in the mood for creativity like a deadline.
But that mood isn't always a good one...
Linktober
I first participated in Linktober in 2018, where I just did the regular challenge. And as someone who doodled sporadically in my spare time, it was a refreshing change to have structure to my art. The first issue I usually have when I want to sit down and commit to illustrating is... what do I draw?
Linktober, as discussed in my previous post, is a variation on the Inktober format. For every day in October, artists will post a drawing. Each year the folks at Linktober will cook up one or more Calenders of prompts to follow, so that I have a direction to follow for each drawing. Each prompt is still up to interpretation for what specifically you draw, but it's something.
Tumblr media
Linktober prompt listsfor 2018, 2020, and 2022
So there's two aspects of a month long challenge that help my artistic drive. 1) The direction, and 2) the quota. Now for a while, in particular last October, I have thought of Point 2 being more "Deadline", but I think it is better to think of it as a Quota, and we'll get into that soon.
Direction
So a lot of the struggle to start doing art is to do with inspiration. In 2020 I had a fairly consistent inspiration for art since that was the year my D&D group played the most regularly. But this year, adult scheduling has meant that we haven't played as much, and as a result, less D&D art happened.
And it wasn't just that I could call on D&D as a loose concept to do the art, since these "session arts" were pieces based on highlights from our sessions. Before I did Linktober, I did a month long Pokémon drawing challenge, where each day gave me a Pokemon Type, or category of Pokémon (e.g. starter, eevee, legendary). Now sometimes when I was in the mood, I would draw Pokémon anyway, but with this challenge, I was given instructions for 31 drawings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
POKEDEXY, a Pokémon drawing challenge I did in 2017
All this to say, although good art can happen spontaneously, I personally found that I have the best artistic drive if I already know what I'm drawing.
The Quota
Again to use the D&D session arts as an example, part of the reason I was so consistent with my posting of those arts was because I wanted to get last week's art out before we had our next session.
Tumblr media
Session Arts for Chapters 9-18 for our D&D "Everift" campaign.
Part of the artist's motivation problem is... why finish? Sure if you have the direction for a piece, you know what you're making. But when will it be complete? Unless you have a client, most artists are not working to a strict deadline, so it is up to the artist when (or if) a piece is completed, and when/if it's shared to the world.
The pro of a month-long challenge like Inktober is that you are given the when. For Inktober, it's October. You'll be aiming to finish and post your artwork during October, and if you're on schedule, that'll mean you release your first drawing Octover 1st, your 10th drawing by October 10th etc.
The Struggle
I've highlighted the benefits of a monthly challenge to an artist's drive, by they can also be detrimental if approached in a suboptimal way. I wanna discuss how my relationship with Linktober has changed.
When I started Linktober in 2018, Breath of the Wild had come out the year before, and a combination of DLC and challenge runs meant I was still playing the game regularly. The Legend of Zelda has long been one of my favourite fandoms, so of course the next year, I did it again.
In 2020, Age of Calamity came out, and I was playing competitive Smash Bros all the time, with Link as my main, so Zelda was still regularly a part of my downtime entertainment. So 2020, I doubled down on Linktober, and actually made 31 days of art for two separate challenges (occasionally crossing over). I was able to keep up that year because that time of year, I wasn't working a lot, and always prepared ahead of time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My Linktober 2020 (left) and Linktober Shadow 2020 (right)
When it came to October 2021, I had stopped playing Smash Bros, and had been waiting for new Zelda content for a while. I told myself I would restrict myself to a simpler art and colouring style, so that I would be able to complete the challenge with less prep time. As a result, I was almost always preparing art on the day it was due. And the most unfortunate part was that I didnt enjoy Zelda as much as i used to. It was the most stressed I'd ever been about art. Linktober had become a job, and nothing kills creativity more than making it work.
Tumblr media
I usually post updates during Linktober on my Instagram story. For Day 27 in 2021, I did not finish in time, and posted it a couple days later. It made me very upset.
So the point I made earlier about a schedule being good had it in fact killed the fun of art in 2021. I was creatively drained and didn't enjoy it.
Linktober 2022
Tumblr media
This year, I made Linktober more enjoyable by removing any restrictions I had on myself. No uniting artstyle, no expectation that I finish the 31st piece by October 31st, and since the last week of September fell during School Break, I had a solid week of preparation time. And once I hit my stride, I actually got way ahead of schedule. Finishing 30 pieces before October 1st. That final piece stumped me for the same reason I had been stumped for art the rest of the year. The final prompt for Linktober is always Free For All; artist's choice.
Usually this is my Smash Bros Day, but I had left the Smash competitive scene on a bitter note. And the bigger problem I had the previous year was still present. The lack of new Zelda content meant that I didn't enjoy Zelda as much as I used to. My new main "fandom" was D&D. So although I am happy with my art for October this year, it may be my last Linktober.
Tumblr media
Free For All this year I ended up making it about Mario Kart, since I play MK8 regularly with family.
Even if I fixed the Deadline issue, the original draw of Linktober, that it's all Zelda, became a restriction. Why all Zelda if I don't enjoy Zelda as much as I used to?
What to learn from this?
Direction and Quota can be great for art motivation. Having that push to tell you what art to do and when to finish it is great. But don't let that become the only time you do art. If you don't have the time to do art every day, weekly challenges are just as valid. And if the subject matter of a prompt list doesn't appeal to you anymore, feel free to change it up every once in a while. For October 2023, I think I might do a different iteration of Inktober that better reflects my current interests.
Have fun and do art.

🎃Inktober of 2022 - Day 25: 🤢 Ugly
🇵🇷Me: I finally managed to get this Inktober post done about hours ago, you guys! Hopefully I can keep it up while getting into some projects that I haven’t touch yet. Still it can wait at the right the time anyways. Now as I said for this Inktober post, I’m making as a callback of the original Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer back in 2020; which you know about the original movie Sonic looks from the trailer. Link Here
🇵🇷Me: Despite many memes later afterwards though, I think I can get used to of Ugly Sonic and his glory; especially as a supporting cameo for Chip ‘n’ Dale live-action movie which is something. Just make sure to not stare his human teeths up close. Yikes. Anyways, thought for my own version was having Maxwell (still in his K.O. costume from his Day 1 appearance to celebrate CN’s 30th Anniversary) is looking on the mirror to see his ugly self. Perhaps leading to the multiverse version of himself where every characters is ugly, but I don’t wanted to be rude when seeing it. Nevertheless, it does give them both a scare. Thankfully none of them weren’t hurt a bit; just terrified for both looks.
🐰👊💥May: Yeah, but it was pretty funny seeing them face to face. 😁
🦊⚽️Sam: That’s not nice to say that, May. He just needed for his ugly version to do some makeover. You know how things didn’t turn out right for him listening to the fan’s feedback, everyone! Who knows if it will be right or wrong? We’re looking at you, Alvin and the Chipmunks. 🙄

oh hey I found some stuff I wrote in 2020
...and since it's doing nothing besides gathering metaphorical dust in my Documents folder, I thought I'd share it here for anyone to read :)
It's a collection of 30 tiny fictional stories that I wrote for No Novel November 2020, a writing challenge that's basically a mash-up of NaNoWriMo and Inktober—write a fictional story of 250 words or less a day, following a prompt list, every day for the month of November.
(a more detailed description of the challenge from the person who started it can be found here)
In keeping with the format of No Novel November, I'll share one story a day every day for the month of January 2024 (I'll also pin this post to my blog and link to each new story below as I go)
Day 1: First
Day 2: Traction
Day 3: Luxuriant
Day 4: Duck
Day 5: Profile
Day 6: Coincidence
Day 7: Wound

INKTOBER 25 - The Nameless King, Dark Souls 3
I can say I cried with joy the first time I beat Gwyn's oldest son.
I don't know anyone who didn't have a problem with the Nameless King, the hardest and most epic boss on DS3, in my opinion.
I admit that for this boss I stopped playing DS3 for a long time and that it is an optional boss, but I wanted to complete this game and I also wanted to obtain the "Lightning Storm" miracle, which is one of the best miracles in the game, even more so that it was playing with the Herald classes.
Another Inktober of “the difficult bosses that faced me” from this year.
Eme
PD:  I will be posting the latest overdue Inktober these days.

INKTOBER ‘20 #25 - Buddy
Familiars are a common sight on the streets of Wharf Town, going around in their manifold forms to do their masters bidding. Once they were unique only to wizards of some power, but the processes of summoning, crafting or enthralling them became so mundane that by now anyone with even a smidge of arcane potency can have one, and they are quite a help to be sure. While like any of the Others they vary between each other do a massive degree, in all possible aspects, be it shape or size, there are some commonalities to them, of course. They are all made to be smart, or at least crafty and cunning in some ways. Swiftness and nimbleness are common traits desirable by the magic users, as they want their familiars to be able to get to any place and be quick about it. Some are gifted with speech, to carry out more complex tasks. There are two schools of a relationship between the familiar and the master. The Traditionalists believe the familiar to be a tool, a servant – disposable and utterly devoid of a connection, treating them as such as well knowing for sure that the bond they share will protect them fully from any form of retaliation. Empathists, however, take a different route. Arguing that since the familiar is soul bonded to them, they believe they become an extension of themselves and therefore should be treated as such, with the dignity, compassion and egocentric love that once reserves for themselves. These arcane users treat their familiars as closest confidants, truest friends and most beloved companions, as they indeed believe them to be a fragment of themselves woven into external form.
Inktober 2020 art will become avaliable in fully colored variants in ‘Posterra: Folks of the Wharf’ artbook, including extended lore, two short stories and map of the Wharf Town and surroundings. Stay Tuned!
