🪵🔥🪵 kindling 🪵🔥🪵

Was kind of in a weird headspace when I made this. Maybe because it’s a bit autumnal and spooky, and it’s definitely not right now.

Similar to the last one, spent very little time on ideation/planning and just went for it. Definitely ended up using more ink than anticipated. Still, I’m reasonably proud of it! And even though there’s a song called “Kindling” on the Donut County soundtrack, the one I had in loop for this was “Bird of Paradise”.

Process for “kindling”

My head nearly imploded with ideas for this week’s inktober52 prompt (“camping”). Originally, I wanted the little fire guys to be the center attention, and show them in the more classic camp scenario of roasting marshmallows. However, as I started to look up campfire references, I found out there were actually quite a few different types! Very quickly I realized I’d get too caught up in analyzing the different silhouettes, so I pivoted from attempting a realistic campfire to an abstract one. No thumbnail sketches or anything - I both just “wanted to get it done”, and was very compelled by the campfire theme. Mentally it was a little weird, kinda felt like I had caffeine or a sugar rush or something.
