If they truly hate them, either they were hated as a kid, they went through child on child abuse, or they have some form of hate for humanity (misanthopy) as a whole.
I understand being tired by them (energetic, and you prefer calm, quiet, or just introverted) or uninterested. I understand how kids give people anxiety (more vulnerable, unaware, elicits controlling behavior or hypervigilence which tires you). I understand how your own mental health and how unhealthy you are makes you distance yourself from kids and not put them at risk (see above reasons vulnerable, unware, includes neglect too).
But hate? That's a strong word.

imagine having a regression nursery, a place where no one can judge you or tell you that you’re wrong.. equipped with either a fun kids bed like a princess bed or a car racer bed, or a crib. a mobile safely there for you, crib accessories, comfy blankets and stuffies to kiss you goodnight. glowing stars stuck neatly along the ceiling, tiled foam mat on the floor. shelves full of pacis, bottles, sippies, diaps, toys all there organized for your comfort. it smells like your comfort scent and your comfort show is always playing. it’s safe, all for you.

after his defection and integration into the ragtag team of autobots, blitzwing gets to experience being a stupid irresponsible kid for the first time (with optimus exasperatedly responsible for him) imagine going from war crimes being your biggest worry to. ordinance laws.
he would be a lil shit about it and find it funny. because he finally has the freedom to say fuck authority

Curiosity and Puzzle Boxes
It was tiny Tim's first time being 'old' enough to be left home alone without a babysitter, and even though he KNOWS he shouldn't mess or play with some of the things his parents sent home from their digs, he's still a very curious child.
Yeah, maybe playing and later solving that old puzzle box that apparently summoned a powerful eldritch being from a different realm and binded them together until his own death might not have been the brightest thing Tim has done... but at least he's not alone now!
Meanwhile, Danny takes one look at the kid who not only summoned him but solved the puzzle box and sighed to himself, this was the last time he took Tuckers advice on how to escape the dumb Ghost King summonings by creating a 'prove yourself worthy' loophole/puzzle.
Also.. where the heck are your parents kid?!?!?

Who decided to invent the word "Adult"?
Why aren't we just kids who maxed out are growth? Why aren't we the eldest kids who just lived longer?
Why aren't old people old kids?
We all talk about connecting to our inner kid, but why aren't we just still kids with older faces and bodies with more life experience? It still makes sense to me
