I decided to go on a Hiatus because I want to step back from prsk fandom buat I need to say something about this take (warning for Ensekai leaks)

Translation is fucking hard

What's impressive about this scene is Tsukasa specifically use BOKU (僕) and not his preferred pronoun ORE (オレ) to call himself

The emphasis is there so the JP readers could understand how impactful the fact that Tsukasa is not even using his preferred first pronoun because he's actually not being himself but being RIO EVEN IN HIS OWN HEAD

Tsukasa isn't being himself. On the contrary, he's completely, 100% become Rio at that moment

While English has a lot of third person pronouns, Japan has a lot of first person pronouns (compared to English measly "I"). Just like Western has their preferred pronouns, so does Japanese (of course their 1st person pronoun is interchangeable in the context of social interactions). Too bad that this nuance for Tsukasa's dialogue can't be replicated in English. I argue that putting emphasis on the "I" actually do Jack Shit because the emphasis is on the DIFFERENT PRONOUN IN JP. It's like when you hear someone calls a person as a "he" for a long time but then one person suddenly calls that person as "she" (I think, I know western are kinda sensitive on their pronouns but I can't really relate). Anyway it's THAT jarring

The second line is where the tl team kinda needs to wrack their brain, 届かない. No subject, no object. The scene before the sentence flashed back to Tsukasa crying after remembering how he felt how unreachable his own Phoenix is, and it's how he understands Rio's helplessness right at that moment. Using "it" actually makes the sentence sounds pretty vague. What does "it" refer to? "The level that he wants to reach?" It only applied to Tsukasa and not Rio. "The phoenix"? Kinda rude to call the phoenix as "it" though. Besides, using EN pronouns, Tsukasa's phoenix is a "he" while Rio's phoenix is a "she". That's why JP can have that sweet ambiguity while the EN translators need to think super hard about the implied object here.

There's two nuances happening here, and the Ensekai tl team decided to translate it by context of Tsukasa AS Rio: "I can't reach her". I'm guessing that they agreed that the flashback to that scene in chapter 7 means that Tsukasa at that moment completely understands Rio, HE'S RIO BECAUSE HE USES 僕, so they decided that it's Rio's thought and not Tsukasa even though the text box says Tsukasa and the JP implied that Rio and Tsukasa become one. I think the the EN line is okay, kinda missing some deep nuances but that's what translation is. You can't expect to be able to translate all those cultural nuances.

Maybe the alternatives might be "I can't reach my/the phoenix?" More straightforward but we can have a nice title drop lol

my parence got a new fiber internet connection "for free" and although they're quite tech savvy they're also at an age now where people think they can take advantage of them 😤 so after the phone company installed the access point in the basement "for free", they then wanted to charge them 200€ for the in-house hookup (i.e. to run a cable from the basement to the terminal upstairs 👹)

so in my youthful hubris i instead decided to buy a 20m cable and do it myself, and it only took me *checks time* six hours and an insane amount of macgyvering to feed that delicate little thang through the old phone line hole in the ceiling

tbh there was a point in the afternoon when i was ripping apart my mom's floorboards where i would have been more than happy to give someone 200€ just to put me out of my misery... but in the end it all worked out. sometimes even simple tasks take time

#the problem was just that #optical fibers cant be bent #and all i had to work with #was a hole in the basement ceiling #through 30 cm of solid conked creat #because german houses are built like mayan temples for some reason #but no smooth cable tunnel to feed it through #so i had to come up with a way to pull it out the other side #without pulling on the cable itself #i finally ended up with a sort of 3 stage mechanism that consisted of a cable tunnel made of plastic straws (to remain in the hole) #a string on which to pull the cable into the tunnel after it had been placed #and a kind of outer shell that connected everything #and that part took me an entire afternoon #it was fun though ngl #i channelled my inner margo madison #lmaoooo #maybe i should have been an engineer #& #this actually happened last weekend #i just forgot it in my drafts

im just rewatching a lot of stuff so hear me out

with the adventure 99 kids, the only way they know how to interact with digimon is if the world is at stake. there is a definite Divide of the human and digital world. the hikarigaoka and odaiba fog incident seals the deal with them. next time theyre called, diaboromon is rampaging the internet, and they can finally see their friends again. they had to part ways, and deal with growing without them first.

with the 02 cast, the worlds intertwine. they deal with enemies that interact with them in both worlds and have influence in both. by episode 50, the digimon being at home is a pretty open secret. they do everything together and in the 02 cast were a part of the incidents.

thats why kizuna was so jarring for them. at least taichi, yamato and sora. with the digimon now being more known, they could take them to class. they could have lunch out with them. however, there is definitely a cloud of 'I have only seen them in a life-threatening situation, what can I do with them' thoughts that's blocking them from having fun with them.

jou's arc in adventure especially speaks out to me. his issues are especially why he and gomamon are still together. its because of the issues at home. in the digital world, he learns the value of reliability in his own way. his own choice, as both a Chosen Child and as a person.

dealing with problems that relate to human social issues is hard for the 99 digidestined because all they know dealing with problems is to fight their way through it. it doesn't pass their thoughts that the digimon themselves are related to their own personal issues.

So I'm working on those pages but they are going to take me a little longer than I thought cause when I try to add them to the google docs the formation gets all kinds of fucked up. Thankfully after tomorrow, I have two days off because of the holiday. I am also thinking about moving Lilim to a low/selective activity side blog connected to this blog but for now, I am focusing on fixing my stupid google docs.

bonus random thoughts as I am working on verses pages.

As I am trying to make Doris' Baldur's Gate verse, I am struggling with her class. It should be evident that she is a divination wizard (since there is no official 'witch' class), but as I learn more about D&D I'm not sure anymore. Due to the Weave and such arcane magic being so heavily connected to a divinity (aka Mystra), I feel like she would be so turned off by it due to her religious trauma. Instead, I can see her reaching out for a more druidic connection to the world. It would allow her to embrace her inner fire (literally as a wildfire druid) and actually seek that path of healing she typically seeks via 'witchcraft' in her other verses. I guess I could downplay that part of her or find a different way to fit it in. It's such an important part of Doris' character to realize that just because god/s let bad things happen doesn't mean that person has any less value and seeking a path of self-betterment/healing outside of things like religion or deities. If anyone has ideas or knows more about this stuff, let me know your thoughts.

reading about dinosaur vocalisation has me remembering how it's been theorised that tyrannosaurus rex sounds were actually really similar to crocodiles but SUPER bass. like a crocodile's vocalisation are already pretty intimidating but hearing a much louder and deeper version? Terrifying, I love it~ (I think I heard someone's attempt at recreating it but I would not be able to find it again for the life of me) but yes that is my super excited thoughts on dinosaur noises (also I love tiny dinosaur honk-squeaks. 10/10 too cute) - @clxckwork-sun-n-moon

I think Prehistoric Planet did a wonderful job introducing some new sounds to T.rex, especially in the T.rex mating display scene when they lift their heads and make the purring like noises.

But hey, imagine a sauropod!! Imagine the absolute SOUND a creature like that could make!!! I wanna share another scene from Prehistoric Planet, cause this Dreadnoughtus fight scene is INSANE! They make such awesome noises! THEY HISS!!!
