Chef-lieu des Bouches-du-Rhône, commune la plus étendue de France (elle couvre 75 000 hectares) et, en l'occurrence, capitale des moustiques ­ qui n'ont pas leur pareil pour transformer le plus bucolique des pique-niques en scène de Starship Troopers ­ Arles a temporairement trouvé la solution en localisant au musée Réattu l'exposition «Dards d'art». Sous-titrée «mouches, moustiques" modernité», celle-ci propose un survol panoramique de la rencontre entre le monde des insectes et celui des arts, photo, peinture, vidéo, installation et sculpture confondues. Où l'on observe en effet, à grand renfort de pointures réquisitionnées pour l'occasion (Alechinsky, Calder, Man Ray, Dora Maar, Miró, Annette Messager, Germaine Richier"), que toutes ces petites bestioles rampantes ou volantes sont à peu près autant une source de peurs phobiques pour le vulgum pecus qu'un inépuisable vivier d'inspiration créatrice, circonscrite ici au XXe siècle.

Ce catalogue d'exposition de Michèle Moutashahar (Musée Réattu, Arles, 1999) se présente comme un gros papillon bleu aux ailes repliées. Le dos du livre est constitué de spirales, une fois ouvert, il figure le corps du papillon. Le titre, construit sur un calembour et des allitérations, et la fantaisie de la reliure sont autant d'accroches destinées à piquer la curiosité du lecteur, convié à une rencontre entre l'art contemporain et les insectes.

Erika Kinokami

First post of the Godzillaverse that I like to call Biola: Monster Genesis! For a start, who better to show off than the "series'" main protagonist and namesake of this gojiverse, Erika Shiragami Kinokami

Born 2009 to Genchiro Kinokami of the Typhon organization, an organization dedicated to the study of the giant organisms known as kaiju, she was already a genetic test from birth, having genes from multiple plants in her genome as a test run of giving humans photosynthetic capabilities (as a result, her skin has a bit of a greenish tone). Other than the photosynthesis and her lifelong friend being a robot⏤an AI-driven prototype of the Tezcatlipoca unit (T-units for short) technically designated as RD-A10N3 but given the name Jet Jaguar from Erika mispronouncing the Aztec deity's name⏤her life was fairly normal... until very recently.

While out on the field in a military effort against both a particularly aggressive hive of the giant neuropteran Meganula and a mated pair of volant kaiju given the name "Rodan", Erika (and Martin, an upstart kaiju-themed influencer tagging along) ran afoul of a Meganula larva within the cave systems being explored. The insect struck Erika in the abdomen with its claw, grievously wounding her. The Meganula would've killed her after that had it not been for the third Rodan, a smaller, sneaky male resembling a female, breaking through the wall and piercing the Meganula with its long, barbed tongue. For a split second, it looked to see the two other small creatures in there, but then had its attention grabbed by the controlled eruption of the nearby Mt. Aso where the Rodans had nested. As the "Faeder Rodan" flew off to try and save its mate. Jet Jaguar arrived and carried Erika off to safety.

After being brought to a Typhon facility on the remote Odo Island, Erika then undergoes a radical new treatment to help save her life. She's treated with an experimental kind of stem cell therapy incorporating cells and DNA from a kaiju whose emergence nearly 70 years ago spurred the formation of Typhon the following year; a kaiju whose power made it only deserving of the title "King of the Monsters". That beast's healing properties mean that Erika Kinokami now had a third genetic component: Gojira. After waking up, Erika seemed pretty fine at first (besides her not needing glasses anymore, being able to see ultraviolet light, and the healed up wound resembling plant resin), but she would be kept there to make sure there weren't any side effects. The next day, Erika was feeling a bit restless, and Jet suggested they go out and walk for a bit as some nature therapy. It was nice and they even found a cave system with 100% less maneating insects and plenty of nest subterranean biodiversity… but then the irradiated GNA (Godzilla DNA) really started kicking in.

Erika felt nothing at first, but then Jet pointed out that her face was getting pale and even a bit greenish. Erika dismisses that comment at first before Jet adds a small little elaboration: he means greenish even compared to her normal, chloroplast-infused skin tone. Then seeing a more vibrant green creeping up her arms, Erika bluntly agrees that they need to go back Now, and they make off. As they make their way to the cave entrance, Erika not only has leaves sprouting from the base of her neck and her hips (her hair was also gradually melding into leaves), but she starts growing from her human height of 5'1" (155 cm). Once they're at the cave entrance, she was actually too big to fit through, but ended up breaking through the entrance from her growing too big for it, finally stopping at a final height of 20 meters (and also giving a scream of terror and confusion afterwards). Jet, of course, called for help and Erika's dad and other Typhon personnel arrived. She was then brought back to the facility and later filled in on the whole GNA situation, but not before another party came by from the other side of the hill the cave entrance was on: Godzilla.

Strangely (although the maser tanks and other military units brought in preparation for the detected approach of another kaiju were hidden in the forest), the 50-meter dinosaur was noticeably unaggressive for the encounter, walking up to Erika, closely observing her with some minor vocalizations, and then leaving.

For Erika, the experience was even stranger. To her, Godzilla's face looked perplexed, showing more emotion than any photos or video footage of the Monster King she had seen before this day, and she could have sworn she heard a voice coming from him... a voice that called her a... "Biollante"?

1 Million of Years After Abandonment

 The first one million of years is the start of adaptive radiation on the planet Heqet. Many animals and plants started to diversify and specify here, few new Genera appeared, instead the specification led to new species and Subspecies in preexisting genera. The globe was warmer than modern Earth, around 17 degrees celsius, creating a suitable environment for cnidarians, molluscs, most insects and invertebrates, plants and anurans. This is thought to have helped in the diversification and specialization of fauna and flora around the world.

 Continents

There were three main continents at this time, from smallest to largest they are Bufia, Batrachia and Incilia. Each continent has its endemic set of anurans, Bufia has the common toad, Batrachia have the poison dart frogs and giant leaf frogs while Incilia have cane toads and colorado river toads. The continent of Bufia also have endemic alderflies and lacks bromeliads and passion fruits, alongside carpenter bees.

The majoriality of Bufia was covered by the biome of temperate forest with a mountain chain in the north of the continent. Batrachia was majoritarialy savannah with a mountain chain forming on the west. Incilia was mostly desertic as the extense mountain chains in the east created a rainshadow effect stronger than that in Batrachia.

Diversification 

The severe lack of most angiosperms and gymnosperms, tetrapods and invertebrates alongside the total absence of fishes led to the major diversification of the seeded groups, passionfruits, pines, grasses, frogs and principally the invertebrates like dipterans, hymenopterans, miryapods and isopods. Who filled the niches that other groups would have filled on earth.

Flora

With a mid gap in floral species it is expected that many new species evolved to fill in the ecological vacuums, pines dominating most of the world while the arboreal passionfruits took advantage of the lack of specialization to tropical climates of the pines to explode in diversity in tropical regions.

Fauna

Unlike plants there was a massive lack of fauna on the planet Heqet, who led to a major adaptative radiation event, hence the name of this time period. Without herbivores to compete with the millipedes they have grown larger, eating a wide variety of plants or specializing on specific species, most of these large millipedes were somewhat the size of the largest millipede on present Earth, the giant african millipede (Archispirostreptus gigas). Centipedes have experienced great diversification without arachnid and insect competition, but were somewhat limited by frogs where they coexisted. Robber flies were the main predators in open landscapes, predating on all sorts of prey, their monopoly as aerial predators lasted for as long as they were the sole volant predators on the planet. Mosquitoes remained largely the same as they kept feeding on the blood of animals and the nectar of plants, though they had a lot of competition with the carpenter bees as the latter was already specialized to the seeded plants and the plants mosquitoes were specialized into pollinating, (Orchids) were'nt seeded. Both terrestrial and marine gastropods became important herbivores growing to large sizes similarly to the giant African snail (Achatina achatina) in land snails and similar sizes to the sea hare Aplysia vaccaria among marine slugs. Tunicates, cnidarians and cirripedes were the sole filter feeders of the world, some growing to incredible sizes.

The frogs maintained in the same kind of niche as small to medium sized hypercarnivores, and have specialized into other more specific niches (dietary specifications, period of activity, habitat, etc.) in order to avoid competition with the progenitor species.

All About Aviaria and Its People

Time to infodump about my fanmade Mario kingdom!

This is a sketch I did that sort of shows you how I imagine Princess Harpy’s kingdom would look. I’m gonna tell you what each numbered location is in the fake Mario Wiki page for it.

Ruler: Princess Harpy Inhabitants: Aviarians, Aquatic Aviarians, Sprixies, Psychic Humans First Appearance: Mario & Luigi: Birds of Prey*

Aviaria is a kingdom that is an ally of the Mushroom Kingdom and the main setting of Mario & Luigi: Birds of Prey. Like the Beanbean Kingdom and Pi’illo Island, its locations are named based on the theme of the kingdom, its theme being flight. The kingdom features many mountains, hills, slopes and valleys. The name itself is based on the words “avian” and “aviary.”

Government Aviaria is a monarchy ruled by Princess Harpy. Harpy is assisted by her advisor, Crowena.

Locations 1. Hoverside- A large hill town where many Aviarians live that is not a far distance away from Eagle’s Nest Castle. 2. Mall Landing- A popular shopping mall in Hoverside. 3. Hover Hills- The green, rolling hills outside of Hoverside. 4. Eagle’s Nest Castle- Situated on a very tall hill, this is the home of Harpy, Crowena and others. The way the castle is structured and designed makes it resemble a large birdhouse. 5. Swoop Valley- A deep valley between Hover Hills, Aero Heights and Cicada Creek. 6. Hunter Hideout- A cavern in the valley. Cassie and her gang live together here. 7. Glide River- A winding river that flows through the valley. 8. Cicada Creek- A dense forest where Glide River splits out, populated by the type of Aviarians that are humanoid insects. It is home to Peony. 9. Flutter Rock- A large rock on a stony beach that is an entrance to a large cave. It is part of a long connecting network of caves that run all across the kingdom. 10. Aero Heights- A large, craggy mountain range with peaks that reach the highest altitudes in the kingdom. There is a large waterfall here that is part of Glide River. 11. Port Windborne- A harbor town located in the western part of the kingdom. Aquatic Aviarians live here. 12. Sweeping Shore- The shoreline all around Port Windborne. 13. Soaring Sea- The malevolent sea that must be sailed through in order to get to Ryukyu Island. 14. Ryukyu Island- A mysterious island just a few miles away from the Aviarian mainland. 15. Sprixie Village- A Sprixie immigrant community in the west of the kingdom.

Currency Aviaria uses quetzal coins as its form of currency. Ten quetzal coins is equivalent to one Mushroom Kingdom coin. Princess Harpy has a little trouble keeping up with the current exchange rate.

Trivia - As there is a community of Sprixies living in Aviaria, the Sprixie Kingdom from Super Mario 3D World exists in the Mario & Luigi canon. - Ryukyu Island is named after the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, which have interesting species of birds living there. - Soaring Sea is actually an inlet, and Ryukyu Island is near the middle of said inlet. 

Thanks to @ra1nb0w-ph0en1x for the Japanese translation! If anybody wants to create the full picture for me (I can’t digitally draw), I would be honored! Make sure you add more hills and slopes, though, ‘cause I only sketched out the main locations.

*If there actually was an installment in the series in which Aviaria appeared, this is what I think it would be called. Something like this.

Princess Harpy is an eagle Aviarian. She is a very courageous and bold ruler. She has made it her top priority to protect everyone from anything that may threaten them. She always has her eyes out for danger, and she encourages her people to keep their homes heavily fortified. She is defensive of herself; if she ever were captured, she'd try to look for a way to get herself out. The best thing about Harpy is that she will never, ever give up on anyone. While Harpy is very brave, she is a bit too aggressive and assertive. She is also quite stubborn about some things, and she can be too tenacious. Harpy has powerful senses of sight and hearing, and she's nimble. She is very good at focusing on a task, and she is also an excellent flyer. When it comes to her physical weaknesses, she is sensitive to pollen, and she can lose control of her senses if there is too much happening.

Crowena is a crow Aviarian, and in addition to being Harpy's royal advisor, she also acts as a spy. She is smart, clever, crafty and a little playful. She has been known to never run away from any kind of challenge, and she's also very sneaky. She enjoys being fashionable; she often stops by Mall Landing to see what they've got on their catalog since it changes often. Crowena is good at adapting to new conditions and uses her surroundings to her advantage. She has a bit of a thirst for drama, so she can sometimes say something that causes an argument. Crowena is good at flying, but she considers herself to be better at using her trusty knife. She uses it to cut through rope, leaves and other things. She has great expertise in stealth and espionage, and she's good at covering her tracks. She has sensitive skin, and she's intolerant to gluten. She also has some seasonal allergies.

Peony is a mayfly Aviarian who lives in Cicada Creek. He is a curious and feisty mayfly who is fairly level-headed and good at noticing things. He seems to know his way around Cicada Creek very well, so if you ever decide to stop by, he'll be more than happy to show you around. He is very easily bored and loves it whenever something interesting is happening, but he doesn't like to get dirty. He likes to walk around instead of fly because even though his wings could use that exercise, he views walking as an "everyday hiking trip." Though Peony knows right from wrong pretty well, he is a little naive. He is sort of high-strung, tending to argue with people over little problems. He likes to eat, and he emotionally eats to cope with boredom. While Peony has good navigation skills, his body is very delicate; he can be reckless and unaware of this fact. Peony has actually heard of the Mario bros. and can't get enough of hearing about their adventures. They partially inspire Peony to be adventurous himself. Peony would love to meet the Mario bros. and would be honored to help them get around Cicada Creek.

Cassie is a cassowary Aviarian and the leader of a delinquent gang. She is a brash and rowdy bird who is best known for her very mischievous nature. While she is confident and snarky, Cassie is also reclusive, preferring to do things on her own or with just her team. Cassie is defensive of herself, which is why she always carries her spear around with her. Her defensiveness may have something to do with the easily unnoticeable scars on her neck. Cassie's biggest weakness is her terrible judgement; she does not follow any sort of moral code. Her prankish nature becomes troublesome to her and other people, especially to Princess Harpy. Cassie can't fly, but she has good spearmanship and is an excellent jumper. She also moves around very fast.

Lambert is a lammergeier, or bearded vulture. He is a huge carnivore, and he even eats the bones. He is the most stylish and fancy, and he will typically announce when someone has been pranked by the gang. He is an artist who will experiment with design and color, and he is a bit of a trickster. He will trick you into giving him the last pizza slice. Instead of sarcasm, Lambert will usually act dramatic. He is a little pretentious, but he does have a pretty good memory.

Barrel is a barred owl who is the best at sneaking, but he's not as good as Crowena. When going out, he likes to come prepared; he always keeps his stake on him just in case he needs to poke a hole in the ground. Barrel's fingernails and toenails work like talons, but he does not like his toenails being claws, so he trims them. He has a good sense of touch; touching soft or fluffy things make him happy. Because of that, he has a bunch of plush toys. He has a powerful voice and is great at singing.

Gilbert is a seagull, specifically a European herring gull. Gilbert is pretty loud, and he is the best at stealing things. He will go out of his way to catch anything he sees. Gilbert is quite greedy and aggressive, but he cares about his friends. While Lambert tries to swindle you into giving him the last pizza slice, Gilbert will outright steal it. Gilbert is toilet-trained, but if he needs to go badly enough, he'll go wherever is the most convenient for him. If something goes wrong, Gilbert will alert the group by blowing his airhorn. He often daydreams of going sailing.

The delinquents camp out together in Hunter Hideout, a cavern in Swoop Valley that's close to Aero Heights. To the other delinquents, it's like a clubhouse, but to Cassie, it's a permanent home. The gang comes from different places and different age groups. Lambert is in his 30s, Cassie is in her 20s, Barrel is about 18 or 19, and Gilbert is around 13 or 14. They are all united under one thing: mischief. They like to mess with people simply because they think it's fun. Princess Harpy knows them all well, and they especially like to play with her. She and Crowena chase after them whenever they spot them causing trouble. No one knows for sure why this group loves making mischief so much. Something could be up with Cassie or the entire group, but they’ve never revealed their pasts to anyone.

Siobhan is a swan who also works at the mall. She is prideful, graceful, and loves to show off her catalog to her customers. You can go to her store to buy items.

Shiver is a snowy owl who lives in Aero Heights. They are mostly up during the day, but they are a huge night owl. They love to hop around the mountains searching for treasure, if they didn't stay up so late that they're all sleepy the next day. She is actually quite a genius, as she has built her own treasure detector. Shiver is non-binary and gender questioning, and she uses she/they.

Selene is a sleek luna moth who works as the Black Witch’s apprentice. Peony seems to be very interested in her job, but she thinks he’s being nosy.

The Black Witch is, as her name suggests, a black witch moth. She lives very close to Flutter Rock. She can conjure up items that will help you in battle. She can also predict events that happen around Aviaria.

Luna lives in Port Windborne. She is a calm loon who is skilled in making and using hammers. So, if you visit her house, she can upgrade your hammers to make them stronger, like the Hammerhead Bros. do in Superstar Saga.

The Muffin Puffin also lives in Port Windborne. He bakes muffins that will fully restore your HP and BP. He is often seen walking around the town, going out of his way to sell his muffins. So, if you want to buy some healing muffins from him, you’ll have to stop him while he’s walking around.

Opal von Mongoletto and her pet snow leopard Dalmatian are two of the only inhabitants of Ryukyu Island. Not much is known about the island and no one has visited it. The swirls on Opal’s cheeks indicate that she is a psychic human, able to see into people’s memories and make herself spiritually present in other locations. Opal has a nervous, reclusive nature. She has tried to socialize with the creatures on the island, but it didn't work out that much. Opal still has an adventurous and wild personality. Sapphire’s hair is green because that’s a thing that happens with this psychic human species. If they have a child, a certain gemstone is bestowed upon the child, and they are named after this gemstone. When the people get old, their hair turns the color of the gemstone their child was given. Because Moldavite is forest green, Sapphire’s hair is now that color. Her parents’ hair are now blue. Mindy and Jasper’s hair will turn pretty rainbow colors when they get older since Opal’s gemstone has those colors. Psychic people who decide not to have children will have their hair turn gray like our hair does.

En paix chez mes parents. Grosse crise vendredi soir au retour du cinéma, maman qui m’a provoquée, se sont pas rendus compte de l’état de sensibilité dans lequel j’étais. J’ai voulu partir, ils m’ont retenue et m’ont pris dans leurs bras en s’excusant. Je n’arrivais plus à m’arrêter de pleurer. Suis partie me coucher juste après. Depuis, ça va mieux. Par chance il fait un super beau week-end, je suis collée sur la terrasse, on a petit-déjeuné ce matin dehors, déjeuné ce midi dehors. J’ai fait du vélo. Je profite du calme, du vert et du bourdonnement des insectes volants.

Normalement ce soir je devrais voir Nathalie, j’espère que ça se fera, car on avait déjà un brunch et sortie au spa de prévue mais annulée à cause de l’hospitalisation imprévue de son papa.

Micka m’a envoyé une photo de lui et de Solan hier depuis un aéroport, sur le départ pour Dublin. C’est la première photo de lui qu’il me renvoie depuis l’incident. La dernière de lui datent du 9 mars, 1er jour du Bercy de Jeremy. Un mois… on reprend une maigre ascension. De toute manière je reste quand même distante. Certaines phrases qu’il m’a dite m’ont blessée profondément et je n’ai pas oublié, même si je sais que ce n’est pas forcément ce qu’il pensait au moment où il l’a écrit.

À partir de demain il va de nouveau faire moche et froid toute la semaine, au moment même où je venais de recevoir mon salon de jardin et que je commençais à racheter des plantes pour aménager ma terrasse…

J’ai commandé mon MacBook, j’ai réussi à gratter 700€ dessus. Je l’aurai bientôt, j’ai hâte. C’est mon plaisir.

Par moments je me sens un peu mieux, à d’autre plus du tout. Dans l’ensemble ça va quand même légèrement mieux. Je n’avais plus trop d’angoisses le matin au réveil ces derniers jours, c’est déjà ça.

Là où brandis l'habitude de m'approcher tranquillement des papillons dans qu'ils ne s'envolent, je dois maintenant faire très attention pour ne pas les voir partir à tire d'ailes dès 6h du matin ! J'ai ainsi fait fuir cette libellule qui s'est par bonheur accrochée sur cette graminée beaucoup plus esthétique que son précédent emplacement 😊 🇬🇧 With the current heat and drought, it is increasingly difficult to photograph flying insects in the morning. Le syrphe ceinturé, ou Episyrphus balteatus, est un petit bijou volant de l'ordre des Diptères. Cette espèce, que l'on rencontre souvent dans les jardins, les champs et près des cours d'eau, est un allié précieux pour les jardiniers grâce à son appétit pour les pucerons.

La photographie saisit l'essence délicate de ce pollinisateur, avec ses yeux composés rougeoyants, semblables à un patchwork de rubis, qui captent et réfractent la lumière. Ces yeux sont non seulement beaux, mais aussi des instruments de vision exceptionnels qui lui permettent de détecter les mouvements rapides et de naviguer efficacement en vol.
