N915AK, one of Alaska's Boeing 737 MAX9s, sits at the gate at Concourse C awaiting its final loads. You can't tell from my photo, but this is the Seattle Kraken 737. ⁣ ⁣ It's immediately apparent from the front just how much bigger the LEAP 1B engine is on the MAX compared to the CFM56-7 used on the 737NGs. ⁣ ⁣ The LEAP 1B has 18 carbon-fiber reinforced polymer fan blades compared to the 36 titanium fan blades on the CFM56-7. Resin transfer moulding (RTM) was used to produce the LEAP 1B fan blades which is basically forming and curing the carbon fiber in a mould under moderate pressure with resin and other curing compounds "injected" into the mould. ⁣ ⁣ The 18 LEAP 1B blades weigh a total of 168 lbs where as the 36 titanium blades used on the CFM56-7 weigh a total of 330 lbs. ⁣ ⁣ As the LEAP 1B blades are lighter (but each blade is strong enough to support the weight of a 787 Dreamliner!), this means there is less kinetic energy to manage in a blade-out situation and as a result, the fan blade containment structure can be made lighter, further reducing the weight of the engine. The LEAP 1B's fan containment case is 30% lighter and is made of carbon fiber compared with the aluminum/carbon fiber containment case used on the CFM56. ⁣ ⁣ The complex 3-D shape of the LEAP 1B fan blades reduces the noise from the front of the engine caused by fan rotation. ⁣ ⁣ #avgeek #aviation #airlines #aircraft #planeporn #SEA #Seattle #SeaTac #Washington #airport #planespotting #instaplane ⁣ ⁣ #Boeing #737 #MAX9 #Alaska #AlaskaAirlines #N915AK⁣ #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight ⁣ ⁣ #AvGeeksAero #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation (at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeU6K25MhC9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Boeing 727-21, serial number 19260, VP-BAP on departure out of SXM. The Boeing 727 is an American narrow-body airliner that was developed and produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. After the heavy 707 quad-jet was introduced in 1958, Boeing addressed the demand for shorter flight lengths from smaller airports. On December 5, 1960, the 727 was launched with 40 orders each from United Airlines and Eastern Air Lines. The first 727-100 rolled out November 27, 1962, first flew on February 9, 1963, and entered service with Eastern on February 1, 1964. The only trijet aircraft to be produced by Boeing, the 727 is powered by Pratt & Whitney JT8D low-bypass turbofans below a T-tail, one on each side of the rear fuselage and a center one fed through an S-duct. It shares its six-abreast upper fuselage cross-section and cockpit with the 707. The 133 ft (40.5 m) long 727-100 typically carries 106 passengers in two classes over 2,250 nmi (4,170 km), or 129 in a single class. Launched in 1965, the stretched 727-200 flew in July 1967 and entered service with Northeast Airlines that December. The 20 ft (6.1 m) longer variant typically carries 134 passengers in two classes over 2,550 nmi (4,720 km), or 155 in a single class. Besides the airliner accommodation, a freighter and a Quick Change convertible version were offered. 🛬🛫🛬🛫🛬🛫🛬🛫🛬🛫🛬🛫🛬🛫🛬🛫🛬 🛩️Aircraft Manufacturer: @boeing. 🛩️Aircraft Model: B727-21. 🛩️Aircraft Registration: VP-BAP. 🛩️FBO: @signaturefbo. 🛩️Route: TNCM - KVNY. 📍Location: Princess Juliana Int’l Airport, St. Maarten. 📆Date: 3/21/2023. 📸 Photo Captured by: Franklyn Wilson | @beeksphotos . 🛫 🛬 www.linktr.ee/beeksphotos 🛫 🛬 #tncm #sxm #instagramaviation #ilivewhereyouvacation #instagood #teamaviation #aviationlovers #corporatejets #businessjets #bizjets #aviationphotographyphotos #sintmaartenphotographer #sxmphotographer #planespotting #privatejets #passionpassport #privatejetillustrated #mahobeachexperience #malibuconsultingcorp, #boeing #b727 #pjp #fyp #vpbap #3212023 #beeksphotos #swipeleft (at Princess Juliana International Airport Sint Maarten) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqFustJucqB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Another moose (C17) I caught with a tagline at the nose - “Go for Broke”. A great motivational tagline to adopt for the new year. 👍👍💪💪 This C17 from the Hawaii Air National Guard is one of a number of C17s with commemorative nose taglines. “Go for broke” was the motto for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in WW2 which was composed of almost entirely 2nd generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry. Most of these Japanese-American soldiers were from Hawaii. They served with distinction in WW2 becoming the most decorated combat unit in US military history. Considering the discrimination their family members faced being interned in concentration camps in the US during that time, these soldiers went all out to prove their loyalty, bravery and fighting qualities. In the battlefields of Italy, France and Germany, their motto was demonstrated to the fullest. 🫡🫡🇺🇸🇺🇸 “Go for broke”, absolutely. #USAF #USAirForce #JBPearHarborHickam #AirNationalGuard #HawaiiAirNationalGuard #15thWing #154thWing #535AirliftSquadron #AviationGeek #MilitaryAviation #MilitaryEnthusiast #aviationphotography #instagramaviation #aviation4u #excellentaviation #PlaneSpotter #PlaneSpotting #MilitaryGeek #instagood #Boeing #C17 #C17GlobeMaster #Moose #Singapore #USA #Nikon #NikonD500 #Nikonsg #PatchCollector #PlanesPatchesPeople (at Singapore / Singapura / 新加坡 / சிங்கப்பூர்) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnD5KrZPGhP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Not all STOL airliner projects of the late 1960s and early 1970s were jets. In the late 1950s, Charles #Breguet worked on a four engine transport that not only utilized the propwash to "blow" the wing surface and its flaps, but had turboprop engines that were cross linked by a drive shaft to minimize impacts from engine failure. The ultimate development over a series of prototypes resulted in the #Breguet941.⁣ ⁣ The increase in air travel in the 1960s meant that STOL airliners were one way of increasing airport capacity. Some airports even had STOL runways (LGA and DFW, for example). City center "STOLport" facilities were envisaged as helping offload airport traffic.⁣ ⁣ McDonnell Aircraft obtained a license to market and build the aircraft for the US market as the McDonnell 188. Both #American #Airlines and #Eastern Air Lines tested the concept on a very limited basis particularly in the US Northeast corridor. ⁣ ⁣ The #McDonnell188 had four abreast seating with accommodation for 57 passengers using less than 1000 feet of runway to fly 500 miles. The fuselage was square section, so it was not pressurized. McDonnell did have plans for a pressurized version, the McDonnell 188E. ⁣ ⁣ The 188 was much smaller than the previous STOL airliner concepts I've posted, seating only 1/3 to 1/2 as many passengers as the previous designs I talked about. But it would have been ready for production before its jet STOL competitors. ⁣ ⁣ Passenger appeal wasn't great and the innovative cross shaft system added weight and maintenance complexity which in turn raised seat-mile costs. No orders resulted and the aircraft ended up with the French Air Force which withdrew them from use in 1974 due to the aircraft being maintenance intensive.⁣ ⁣ Now I've got one more jet design and one more turboprop design to discuss, but keep in mind that these concepts were the focus of considerable effort by many companies at the same time the #BAe146 began development as the Hawker Siddeley HS.146. ⁣ ⁣ #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #instaplane ⁣ ⁣ #McDonnellDouglas⁣ ⁣ #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #flight⁣ #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation https://www.instagram.com/p/CfIijbmLRZ-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
