Mechan 9
Built with the help of an Honorarium art grant from Burning Man in 2016, the giant steel creation weighs over 6,000 pounds and is almost 40 feet in diameter. Sporting a strange text that could originally only be decoded with a special sticker, Mechan 9 sparks the imagination of people of all ages. Mechan 9 is now the mascot for Area 15 in Las Vegas.

A.F. Vandevorst installation for Arnhem Mode Biennale 2011
“A girl sleeping in a hospital bed in her A.F. Vandevorst dress. But here, the girl as well as the mattress and pillow are made out of candle wax. Once lit, what starts as a perfect image will slowly melt and perish during the biennale.”

An Expansive Exhibition Pairs Two Indigenous Artists to Explore the Power of Socially Engaged Artmaking
A monumental patchwork wolf, warriors sparring with a fang-bearing snake, and an abstract woolen tapestry made of restored blankets comprise Each/Other: Marie Watt and Cannupa Hanska Luger, which opens this weekend at the Denver Art Museum. The expansive exhibition—featuring 26 mixed-media sculptures, installations, and wall hangings—joins two of the leading Indigenous artists working today in a manner that distinguishes both the connective threads and nuances within their bodies of work.

Textile installation by Kaarina Kaikkonen (b. 1952 in Iisalmi, Finland).
Kaarina Kaikkonen, one of our most internationally recognized sculptors and artists, is known for shaping urban landscapes and emphasizing community through her installations. In her works, one can find references to current themes of humanity’s place in their own time, and of basic needs that always exist regardless of environment or culture. Old clothes contain the former user's presence, which wraps around Kaikkonen’s story and places the viewer before something new and unknown, but at the same time exceedingly familiar and intimate.
