Made the effort this morning, up & out on the bike. Everything felt okay, knee not ideal walking around house afterwards. I wanted a bit of a mix of off road & on road. Forgot how sandy Canford Heath is & had to get off & push a couple of places! I missed a couple of turns too. Saw to pieces of terrible driving which discourages cycling in general. Firstly some one didn’t stop at a junction, as they should have but drove across the pavement & cycle lane & stopped. Completely ignoring the right of way for non-cars. Then on the same stretch of road I got flashed & honked at, then verbally abused for cycling in the road & not using the shared path. I was doing 20mph, in a 20 mph zone, so they where speeding to over take me, they got so close they nearly knocked me off. Such arrogance, they obviously don’t know the rules of the road. Firstly it isn’t compulsory for anyone to use a cycle path, plus when it is shared cycle path, the speed limit for cycling is 10 mph. I was doing double that & as such shouldn’t have been on the cycle path. They were old, they should have known better. But the entitlement that a cycle path had been built next to a road (which actually makes it safer for the local kids going to the two schools on that road), it must be used & it is fine to threaten & nearly knock a cyclist off their bike, while speeding. Such selfishness & arrogance. Not a shock around here where the majority are bigoted, tories. But it does stop others cycling. However apart from that, it was an enjoyable hour, sadly not as warm as yesterday morning.
