I'm sick of the moraliazation of illness/disability. I see it a lot when it comes to type 2 diabetes. I'm sick of the idea that it's just "fat person disease." Talk to pretty much any doctor and they'll tell you that the main factor in type 2 diabetes is genetics. My mom's side has a higher likelihood for type 2 diabetes, my dad's side does not. Despite my dad being extremely overweight for much of his life, not even a sign! My Nan had some weight gain in her 50s, not that much from how much she weighed, and she ended up with it. There's no "right" way to be ill, I'm tired of the stigma around the idea that a person "does it to themselves" and thus is okay to ridicule and not listen to. In fact, Weight in general has more to do with genetics than most other factors! Think about how many people live off redbull and fast food and don't gain weight from it! And even if someone did get sick because of their actions, you shouldn't go around ridiculing them over that!

Hi! Saw your recent ask re: PCOS and health. I am not a doctor but have lived with PCOS for the past 10 years and have been able to slowly eliminate my symptoms. Personally, what really helped for me was focusing on building strength over weight loss. So, weights and moderate cardio (30 min at a time) over endless sessions on the elliptical. Many people with PCOS are also chronically undernourished, so instead of focusing on eliminating whole food groups (unless you have a food sensitivity) having meals that are full of whole foods , fiber, protein and healthy fats might be a good idea. Taking Inositol, Magnesium, Vitamin D and Folate have been great for my symptoms, personally. Lastly: improving sleep and finding concrete methods to reduce stress have also improved my endocrine health. Find 2-3 accessible things you can do for yourself in order to reduce stress, even if it’s as small as a 30 second meditation session or walk around the block. Good luck!
Thank you so much for your advice!
I just started twice a week 30 min weights with a friend of mine. I'll try to keep the focus on complex carbs/ fruits and vegetables and away from starchy stuff and trying to increase protein rather than just looking at it as counting carbs but it is hard.
Stress is such a hard one!!!! I'm thinking of switching jobs right now so it's even worse! I'll try to meditate though, that's a good idea.

So I wanted to share a little thing
i’m going to put the warning here I talk about ⚠️chronic illness⚠️ in this post. but I really wanted to talk about it because it’s really important to me and no one IRL really cares (and I also wanted to bring light in case someone sees this post who is like me)
⚠️Small vent also⚠️ please feel free to scroll away
I have two things PCOS and Hashimoto’s disease (if you don’t want to Google it feel free to ask questions)
And one of the treatable affects of these chronic illnesses is insulin resistance which causes dryness and darkening of the skin (also known as Acanthosis Nigricans) in certain places (under the chin, the neck, elbows, armpits, etc.) and for the longest time I was told that it was something that I was doing wrong.
You’re not drinking enough water
You’re eating too much sugar
You’re not eating good enough
You’re not exercising enough
Never stopping to consider that there’s something going on that’s out of my control. And it wasn’t until around August of last year that I started going to the doctor and actually getting diagnosed with and treated for these illnesses.
My skin started darkening when I was 10 and my self-esteem went to hell because of it. People would stare at me in the grocery store. Kids would come up and ask why I had a dark ring around my neck, people would look at me like I was doing something wrong even though I was confused why it was happening myself
Anyway Lil vent over
I’ve got good news
My doctor put me on medication
And it’s starting to go away pretty quickly to the point where you can only see it in certain lights and I am so relieved and ecstatic about it. Because I didn’t think it was going to go away
I thought I would just have to cover it up with makeup or hoodies and necklaces forever. I thought I was gonna have to feel that pain of looking in the mirror and seeing it forever.
But now it’s gone almost completely. And I’m starting to heal from years of not getting it treated.
So if you are/were in the same boat as me. Knowing something is wrong but people treating you like you’re the problem or people ignoring you about it
It may not seem like you’ll ever get better. But you will. WE WILL
We may not recover fully mentally or physically, but we will recover.

Christians be like intelligent design this and intelligent design that!
Idk man not being able to properly digest sugar seems like a pretty big design flaw to me.
I’m waiting for the patch update.

You already lower your expectations and standards with regularity. But what of your insulin levels? By the look of it, you should probably spend the same time and effort on lowering them as you do your expectations and standards. Here's why and how!

Do you know if taking T with insulin resistance from PCOS makes it worse?
i am actually unsure and i haven't had the time to research this, so i wanted other people with more knowledge to chime in if possible- i do know that any hormone fluctuations can cause issues with insulin production & use in the body- does anyone have a resource or definitive answer for this? generally speaking your liver enzymes, blood pressure, heart, and related conditions are best to keep in mind when wanting to start T, and I do believe this could be a related condition- so it's very good that you're reaching out.
we'll pass along any info we get, hope you're able to get the information you need.

I used to love those anti diet posts that were like "eat that cake. eat that chocolate. do what feels good babe" because they enabled me to keep harming my vital organs. Now they make me want to scream bc like girl I would LOVE to. I'm fighting the urge every second. But I would sugar dose myself into a diabetic coma if I just did what felt good. I would bleed myself into iron deficiency if I did what felt good. Doing what feels good would cause some of my favourite organs to stop functioning. It's made me realize... Doing what feels good is a privilege not all are blessed with.

What happens when people avoid sugar?
They eat more fat and become fatter, sadder and more insulin resistant.
I'm not shaming anyone, I'm just sharing knowledge.

Recent stuff in my life got me thinking can people in omegaverse smell when someone has diabetes/insulin resistance in general???? Now im pretty sure this is a trait only dogs can have, not wolves, but who gives a shit we're all dogos in here. Like, it's definitely possible. Maybe Diabetic people would give off a scent of something sickly sweet mixed in with their actual scent?
Gimme your thoughts!!!

Insulin resistance and my time by the sea
allow me to be giddy for a second :D
around a month and a half or so ago, I was diagnosed with an insulin resistance after some blood sugar tests and visits to an endocrinologist. I went in for a regular thyroid checkup, but did the blood sugars just for the shits of it yk.
Welp, since then, I've lost around 10 kg in 20-ish days :DD I stopped taking insulin medication that the doc prescribed me cuz it made me real nauseous and he said I can go without it as my case isn't that bad.
Ngl I'm kinda proud of myself! 6am morning walk with my mother, then swimming, then lunch, then more swimming, and an evening walk. For the past 7 day I've kept a 14k+ steps streak, which is 10+ kilometers for me, with the smallest one being 14.5k and largest 28k
I feel so much better. My skin is better(but still bothersome), and I'm no longer pregnant looking from constant bloat :D Even some definition can be seen on my legs which is so cool
The diet change is a bit drastic but I don't mind as much except for sweet cravings.
Hopefully I can keep up this sorta activity and diet when I move back abroad for uni.
Currently I weigh 71kg. Let's go for 69 bros!
