Chapter 7 + Ash Hangout Public Update is now live! 🎉

The Chapter 7 and Ash Hangout update is finally here 🔥😁 I'm sorry for the slight delay, I had something urgent to attend to today and I just got home and I just basically went straight to my computer to upload this update.

Finally, we are starting to get into the ROs' first hangout sessions. Of course, to start us off, we'll have Ash's hangout session 😁This update adds around 31K of new words, bringing the total word count so far to around 356,701K words!

Anyway, this update also brings quite a lot of changes in the coding, especially for the skip chapter function, so I'm going to strongly suggest you guys play with clean save, either from the beginning or using the skip chapter function.

I have recently added another skip-chapter checkpoint, which is Chapter 3 in addition to the already existing one on Chapter 6. There is also now an autosave function at the beginning of every chapter starting on Chapter 2, so you'll be able to replay any chapter you're currently reading and try out different options in that chapter.

Anyway, enough of the technicalities.

The Interactive Fiction Showcase is a year-long "jam" meant to collect and showcase Interactive Fiction games completed in 2024, and show how diverse the Interactive Fiction scene is! And maybe: build more bridges between the community, help people finding their new favourite game/author...

Whether it is long or short, an easy adventure or a complicated puzzle, a strange experiment, a quick creation, or a years-in-the-making game, come show off what you've made!

Rules:

The Showcase is open to IF games in all of its forms: kinetic, choice-based, hyperlinks, parser, visual novels... As long as it is Interactive Fiction (there is interactivity and the focus of the game is on the text), the entry will be accepted.

The Showcase is open to IF games in any language.

Entries must be playable and in its complete form when submitted. Completed games in 2024, whose demo was previously public, are welcome. Games submitted to other events (jams/competitions) are welcome.

Entries can include NSFW content, as long as it is indicated in the submission.

Entries should not include any generated AI content - or it will be removed.

Spam or hateful content will be removed.

Despite only being a vampire for a year she's managed to gain a good bit of fame throughout the shadow world of Seattle anyone who is anyone knows Juliette, but you're one of the lucky few who gets to actually know her. She's got a soft spot for you, but she'd rather walk into the sun than ever admit it.

One of the many that are hunting you. Honestly, they're so bad at catching you that one might think they're leading everyone astray on purpose... "On the 25th anniversary, as a reminder to the rebels that their children were dying because of their choice to initiate violence, every district was made to hold an election and vote on the tributes that who would represent it."

Twenty-five years have passed since the rebellion, yet the price is still being paid by the Districts. Even though most people alive today had no part in the fight, they suffer the consequences of the Capitol's anger. The harsh reality of the Capitol's cruelty is revealed every year on July 4th, Reaping Day. On this day, two children from each of the 12 districts are randomly chosen to fight to the death in an arena until only a lone victor remains. Parents hold their children close and hope it isn't their child who will be ripped away from them, knowing that there is nothing they can do to stop it.

Please Follow this Backup Blog for Vendetta-IF

Hey guys, it's jsc, the author of Vendetta. I'm making this blog to backup all of the stuff I've posted over on the vendetta-if blog because I can't access my main account. Until I can access my account again, this will be the blog I'll use to interact with all of you and post updates. And in the worst case scenario, this will become the main blog.

So, please, follow this blog as I will be posting updates and answering asks like usual here. Also, for those who want to share their fanarts and other fanworks, please tag this blog too so I can see it. I'll also start reblogging some posts and asks from the Vendetta blog here in hopes of preserving them as much as I can. So, be prepared for a little blast from the past as we walk down the nostalgia road, I suppose.

I'm really sad because just earlier today, I checked my followers count and saw that we were 30 followers away from reaching 4K Followers in the main Vendetta blog, and I was thinking about what to do to celebrate it. Plus, there are also so many awesome fanarts and asks that I don't want to just be gone, which is why I'm making this blog to reblog all of them.

For those who are interested in what happened, I'll tell the details under the cut.

So, a few hours ago, I decided to open my iOS Tumblr app to check on notifications and stuff, as I usually do. But instead, I got hit with the Tumblr error messages over and over as it keeps trying to load in.

At first, I just thought it was my cellphone Internet connection, so I tried logging in on the desktop. At first, after I input all of my login credentials, the page loaded, but it brought me to the viewing page of my Vendetta blog as a non-user. I tried again, and this time, it said that my account got terminated. I never got any email from Tumblr about this, and it came as a shock because I just used my Tumblr earlier today to reblog some fanarts with no problem and I have never really used my account for other non-IF related stuff.

So, I scrambled to ask my members in Discord whether my Vendetta blog is still up, and thankfully it still is. But, my main account is somehow gone. The problem is, my Vendetta blog is actually a sideblog to my main account, jsclarissa.

As you can see here, when I tried searching for my main account, it says "Ghost blog! This blog does not exist." despite me having used that account to respond to comments and send asks to other authors before.

I have sent a support ticket to Tumblr support and also tweeted them on Twitter. I really hope they can give me my account back as I'm pretty sure this is some kind of technical issues on their end. I'm just worried about how long it would take them to respond and of course, the worst case scenario that it actually got terminated, so, I'm making this account.

Even if I got my account back, I'll still reblog stuff from the main blog here and maybe I can finally have a more personal blog where I can talk about stuff that is not really related to Vendetta.

Jesse Alden / The Older Brother

The reason you're here and alive. Jesse is about as close as you can get to an older brother without actually being blood-related. Since the moment he met you, he has always made taking care of you his top priority. Sure, he's annoying at times and doesn't listen to you, but that's what older brothers are supposed to do right? No matter how much you bicker, you know that he'll always have your back. At least you believe he will, he would never hurt his little Blessing right?

Harrison Boyd / The Old Bastard

You and Harrison don't exactly get along real well. If Jesse could be considered your brother, Harrison would be your very distant and always unhappy father. He doesn't hate you, you would know if he did, but he doesn't exactly like you either. Harrison may be a grumpy old bastard, but you can trust him to protect you and Jesse till his dying breath. Try not to annoy him too much, or he might ignore you the rest of the week.

Aster Vega / The Star-Eyed Outlaw / Gender Selectable (RO)

Aster Vega is your first and oldest friend. You first met when you were twelve and they attempted to steal your satchel. After you chased them down and, very aggressively I may add, took it back, they looked at you like you had hung the stars. They still have that look every time you end up running into them again along the road. You have no idea what you did to be looked at like that, but you think it might have something to do with Asters none stop prattling about fate and how "One day we'll ride together. It's written in the stars I know it". Maybe your fates truly are interlinked like they seem to believe.

He leads the gang that Aster is a part of. From what Aster has said he has a bit of a temper, but as long as you stay on his good side you'll be fine. He's after someone though, but Aster hasn't been told who. Just make sure to avoid him for now, it's for the best.

Maboroshi is an Interactive Fiction Game based in the world of Naruto, however, all events within the story span during the end of the First Shinobi War and the beginning of the Second Shinobi War.

Long ago, many years before you were born, the countries of the world were entrenched in warfare for land. Mighty warlords and noblemen wished to expand their territory; however, blood would need to be given in exchange; Unfortunately, for the people of the land, the blood given as payment was not theirs. Instead, shinobi across the lands sacrificed their lives to fulfill the greedy lord’s wishes. Villages would soon be pillaged, children and women would perish from famine, and demonic creatures would rise from the darkest parts of the world to roam the earth. This would later be known as the Warring States Era. 

Twenty years later, all the infighting, battles, and wars would just...cease to exist. No one knows what caused the wars to stop; many believe that an inner deal was made between Daimyo across the land, while others believe something much more sinister is at play. Regardless, the ninja world seems to have finally settled into peace and harmony.

It has been some years since the Warring States Era ended. Villages across the land have been ushered into peace, and the village of Kirigakure is one of them. 

Having just graduated from Ninja Academy, you're now a Genin placed into your forever squad. Focused on growing stronger and building a name for yourself. You set your sights on becoming the strongest nin in your village, and who knows? Maybe you'll even become Mizukage someday. Before that happens, you'll need to pass the Chunin exam, a test that is said to have painted the very soil underneath your feet red.

Exam preparations are put on hold when rumors of war begin spilling across the peninsula. 

Tonari Yuma, a missing-nin from your village once accused of kidnapping and killing five children from all across the Land of Water, has resurfaced as a chieftain in the small village of Kirostache. 

Proclaiming himself to be the rightful Mizukage of the Land of Water. He wages war against Kirigakure and denounces your village as a town full of traitors united in dethroning the Daimyo by the usage of dark means. Your father calls it foolish. There is no way that the Water Daimyo would believe such a basis. 

Or so he hopes.

A conspiracy is brewing in the Land of Water, and you will soon learn that life is not as idealistic as you believed.

Izuna Uchiha (M): The Rival A boy shrouded in mystery, he is a constant reminder of your first C-rank mission and what went so terribly wrong. You’ve tried your hardest to make peace with him. But it feels impossible. He's a stranger in your tight-knit village and has found himself to be treated like an outsider. You would feel bad for him; if he weren’t so smug. Replacing one of your squadmates, he has shown an aptitude for warfare and finesse that makes you weary. How can a child who has grown up in a world of peace be so ruthless? Get to know him and you’ll unfortunately find out. 

 Izuna possesses an aptitude for Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu, making himself a triforce. And it makes no sense to you, considering that you hardly see the boy practice! It will be interesting to see how he grows. If he makes it.

Chihiro Inoue (F): The Dreamer

One of your squadmates, she is a loud and outspoken girl with large dreams and big ambitions. Working to become the first female Mizukage, Chihiro often displays headstrongness and an overzealousness that can often get her into trouble. Luckily for her, fortune always seems to work in her favor.

Chihiro possess an extremely high aptitude for Taijutsu and Ninjutsu, calling herself a self-proclaimed weapons master. She gives as good as she gets, and has no problem getting a little dirty.

Tanui Hozuki (M or F): The Jokester

A jokester, they seem to have no desire to become a ninja; but with all that chakra they possess, they are given no choice. Apart of Squad Six, it makes no sense why you seem to run into them all the time, but you find their presence comforting.

You know nothing about their fighting style; only hearing whispers of the ‘wicked’ things that they have summoned from the adults in your village. 

Shinichi Hoshigaki (M): The Lost One/Secret RO

The second member of your original squad. Shinichi is the complete opposite of what you would expect from the Hoshigaki clan. Known for being fierce and aggressive, Shinichi is the exact opposite of the savage reputation that precedes them. Soft and friendly, Shinichi is a gentle soul and abhors the act of violence. But when push comes to shove, he will protect himself and his friends with the vengeance of Asura. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to save him. Or was it?

Shinichi possesses a high aptitude for the sword. Almost on par, if not matching Chihiro in strength and brutality. He favors the Water Release Jutsu; typical for someone coming from his clan. 

Akane Uzumaki: your mother is revered as the five-tailed beast's holy priestess/vessel. Once labeled as one of the strongest Kunoichi in your village, she has settled into domestic life and has left behind a life of adventure. She seems content; however, you catch the sorrowful expression on her face whenever she looks at you.

[[Chooseable Name]]: Your father is a distant cousin of the Water Daimyo, considered a war hero for his actions in a rebellion that lasted almost ten years. He has been given the highest spot in the village as "supporting Kage," only second to the Mizukage himself. 

Hanabi Sugawara: Your sensei; is not what you had expected in a teacher. Seeming to coddle your small team of three more than teaching you. You feel that she is hiding something, something that could put everyone in danger.

Hey, guys! First of all, I'm so sorry for not being active here for the past month. I've been really sick and spent the latter half of January recovering and on bedrest. And as soon as I felt better, I decided to solely focus all my free time and energy on catching up on lost progress and finishing the update before the end of the month. And I did it! 😁

The update is now up for early access on both Patreon and Ko-Fi. Finally, we are starting to get into the ROs' first hangout sessions. Of course, to start us off, we'll have Ash's hangout session 😁This update adds around 31K of new words, bringing the total word count so far to around 356,701K words!

I've also implemented the autosave/reload function to each chapter, so you should be able to have some freedom to go back to the beginning of the chapter and try out different options 😉 Also added another skip-chapter point: Chapter 3.

The Great Protector is a 16+ interactive fiction story where you play as the knight responsible for protecting the crown of the tiny kingdom of Tabalos.

STORY

Forced out of your family's farm against your will, you are now an ocean away from home, and you have somehow been chosen to be the main protector of the heir to some kingdom you’ve hardly even heard of. The spot's only open because the former protector died of old age, so that's probably a good indicator that it won't be as strenuous as it sounds. But despite that, you pour yourself into your work. You can't help it. You feel safer decked out in armour, and you like having something you're trusted to look after.

Protect some royalty, cover all your blind spots, and try not to worry about all you've left behind.

Speaking of magic, yours is... faulty. Always has been. But now that you're out in the world, maybe you'll be able to find a way to fix it.

The kid, never seen without their chunky blue cap. Their parents dropped them off in Ritherport with the promise to return soon, and two years later, they're still waiting. They're a little arrogant due to their former life as a child of prophecy, but they're well-meaning and a hard worker—and it seems like they've fixated on trying to impress you.

Sacha's pet duck. She's white and fluffy and absolutely adorable.

ROMANCE OPTIONS

Kallias [fire, m/f/nb]

The heir to the kingdom of Tabalos—and also your liege. To put it frankly, they make you feel like more of a babysitter looking after a toddler with no sense of self-preservation than a knight for a grown adult. They seem to be determined to make your job as difficult as possible, with their insatiable lust for doing stupid, reckless things like sneaking out of the palace in the middle of the night without telling anyone to fist fight a wild animal in the woods, all with an ever-present smile on their face. Perhaps what you’ve really been hired to protect Kallias from is themself…

Though they love to joke, they’re surprisingly humble for someone who’ll literally rule the entire kingdom some day. Sure, it’s a really small kingdom, but it’s a kingdom nonetheless. In fact, they don’t really act like royalty at all, which can probably at least partially be attributed to them spending more time in the city than in the palace. The Queen doesn’t know about this though, so shh, don’t tell.

Kallias has a lean build, freckled light brown skin, and wavy pink hair that they try to keep swept up and out of their face. Their hair is about shoulder length, and it’s always windswept and artfully messy--and also long enough that it's constantly getting in their eyes so they’re always combing it back with their hands. Their eyes are hazel, but they always look especially green in the sunlight. They have a half-sleeve tattoo as well as multiple small ones in various places, all easy to cover up if they need to. They have eight piercings in each ear and one in their tongue.

Galen [water, m/f]

The town’s only healer, and also most definitely the only reason Kallias is still alive. They were born with superhuman physical strength, and they have the thick arms to match. They’re diligent and responsible which helps them be very good at their job. Alas, they aren’t very personable... yet they’re still almost shockingly popular, always offered warm greetings from the townspeople the rare times they’re out and about in the streets. They never smile back, but they greet each of the townspeople by name, and no one seems to mind.

They look a little intimidating at first glance—and they’re still a little intimidating at the fiftieth—but if you pay attention you’ll notice how gentle they are with their patients, and the care they take to regulate their strength when interacting with others. You'll be hard pressed to find a better healer, much less someone who can heal as painlessly as they do, and given your job you’ll probably be getting to know them pretty well.

Galen has a stocky build, warm brown skin littered with scars, and curly black hair, though despite being so young they have the beginnings of a salt and pepper thing going. Male Galen’s hair is short and curls around his ears, but it's still a little too long for his liking. Female Galen has long flowing hair that goes all the way down to her mid back, though she keeps it in a bun with a hair scarf while she’s working. They have thick eyebrows, long, pointy ears outlined by their own bones (don't worry they're fine it's just like nails!) and their eyes are gold. If you can manage to get them to smile, you might even discover that they have dimples, but who knows?

Victoryne/Valen/Vail [f/m/nb]

V is the only nephilim of your fellow royal knights, and they are determined to make one thing clear to you from the moment you meet: they hate your guts. More specifically, they harbour a deep grudge against you for somehow being chosen by the crown themself to be their royal protector, despite your... rather severe lack of experience in the field. V trained their whole life to get where they are, so to have some random farmer's child just show up and steal their dream job from right under their nose? Infuriated doesn't begin to describe how they feel.

Few things in this world are certain, but there is one thing you can know for sure! V will always have you in their thoughts, wishing on your downfall.

V is considered rather short for a nephilim (and feel free to interpret for yourself what that means), but they're quite toned. They have olive skin with a few scattered beauty marks and curly brown hair. Victoryne wears her hair long though she lacks the patience to do anything with it but tie it back in a simple braid or ponytail. They only have one eye, and it is gray. The other one they were born without, but it looks like it was clawed out because of the scars they received later in life. They have three pairs of wings on their back—though one wing never grew to its full size. The skin on their arms tapers off to an ink black once it reaches their wrists, and the same happens on their legs about mid-calf.

The Great Protector is my first ever IF game, and this is also my first time using tumblr, so I have no idea how any of this works! If you have any feedback feel free to let me know!

You sit backwards, a churning heat settling in the pit of your gut. Everything comes crashing down, falling over you at once. This man is proposing you live with him and other possible criminals. Criminals with powers like...you.

How the hell did you end up here?

Emberwood is a small-town romantic interactive fiction WIP described as X-Men meets Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

When you get into an unexplainable accident that results in severe casualties, you're forced to relocate to the small town of Emberwood to serve your sentence in Dufner House, owned by a reclusive scientist who also happens to be the town's pariah.

It's either that or jail.

That's where you find out you're not the only one born with a unique ability that shouldn’t be possible. In fact, the eccentric Dr. Dufner is the caretaker of six other people with equally mysterious circumstances as you. And they are now your roommates—or more accurately, fellow inmates—for the foreseeable future.

But when oddities around town start cropping up and signs of a powerful threat lurk in the shadows, the truth of your past comes into question, and you begin to wonder how exactly you and everyone else in Dufner House got these powers.

Seems like your stay in Emberwood is going to get a lot more complicated.

Perry Dufner [M] — the dutiful son of Dr. Dufner, Perry is the makeshift leader in place of his chronically lazy father. Perry is kind and described as approachable both by appearance and personality, there’s not one unlikeable bone in his body. As the oldest in Dufner House, Perry tends to be the leader in most situations, especially due to his knack for charming the pants out of everyone. But still, people this good have to be hiding something, right?

Finn/Fera [gender select.] — If there’s one thing F is, it’s the life of the party. With a penchant for flirting and a knack for getting into the biggest trouble, there’s never a dull moment with F. They’re aware of their own greatness and will make sure everyone knows it too. Still, their outgoing personality may be charming to some, while horribly obnoxious to others. In other words, F is an…acquired taste.

Alexander/Alexandra “Alex” [gender select.] — Alex has probably spent more time napping than existing. Rivaling Dr. Dufner as the most lazy in the house, you can likely find Alex trying to catch some Z’s as much as possible. With a monotone voice and a preference for indifference, Alex has become accustomed to watching from afar, finding pleasure in mischief and gossip. They observe rather than engage, but don’t let their nonchalance fool you; Alex doesn’t mind a little chaos.

Kade/Kiera [gender select.] — The second oldest in the house, K isn’t much for fun and games. They spend most of their time in the library, avoiding the rest of the more energetic ones of the group (F). With a calm exterior and sharp wit, K is a good palette cleanser after a day of chaos from the rest of the house. Still, it can be hard to get along with them due to their lack of filter and sometimes brutal honesty. You can never really know what they’re thinking, and you get the sense they prefer it that way.

Daniel/Danielle ‘Dani’ [gender select.] — Dani is one word: angry, and they’re not shy about letting you know. You sense they don’t like you, but it seems like they don’t like anyone. Stoic and serious, befriending D seems like the most impossible outcome out of this whole thing. It’s quite obvious D has a lot of baggage, and their resentment comes from a dark past. Maybe, with enough effort, you can make a crack in the coldly harsh exterior of theirs….maybe.

Noah/Nora [gender select.] — N is the last one you meet, and the most distant. Quiet and reserved, they don’t talk much…or almost at all. You can’t tell whether they actually like Dufner House or would rather murder everyone, but it’s not like you’ll get an answer either way. It doesn’t seem like N has any opinions of you; you’re just another face living in a house they want to be free from. Maybe you can change that.
