Hey Cynthia! This is kind of an ask but mainly a rant because I find this INCREDIBLY annoying, because it's clear these people don't understand the story AT ALL.

I don't think all KogKag shippers are annoying, but I'm surprised that there are so many fans who say that Kagome should've ended up with Koga because Inuyasha was aLWaYS going after Kikyo or that Koga would've TrEAtED her better. I feel like people who say this are just self-inserting onto Kagome. Reason number one: KogKag has little to no substance in canon, with her just humoring him every time he flirts with her. Number two: if they were paying attention, they would know WHY and WHEN Inuyasha went after Kikyo and that for him, there was only Kagome.

TLDR; Do you think people who say "Kagome should've chosen Koga because Inuyasha bad" are self-inserting? I know the anime changes are a huge factor, is that why people say this? I like your analyses so I'd like to know what you think.

Hello! First of all thank you for the love 🥺

(I know I have mutuals & followers who love Koga & Kogkag so warning: this post is very critical of both!)

I’m going to start off by saying “self-inserting” exists in a lot of ships. There’s plenty of people who love Inuyasha and self-insert into Kagome with inukag. That’s not something I have a big issue with, we all have our favorite characters and there’s nothing wrong with self-indulgence. But if we analyze the canon story, I think you definitely need make Kagome OOC in order to ship her Koga. I mean, if canon!Kagome had any interest in him she wouldn't have wasted her time with Inuyasha, lol. I've said this before but the main reason why Kagome loves Inuyasha and not men like Koga and Sesshomaru is because Inuyasha has a good heart. He might have a harsh personality (that he is improving) due to his past trauma but he has never killed & eaten innocent people the way the other two did.

Also, the racism. Kagome's defining personality trait is that she is open and welcoming with everyone. Why would she date Koga who calls people slurs unprovoked? Why would she date Sesshomaru who bullied his half-brother for being mixed? Sure these two somewhat improved their behavior over the course of the series but 1- There's no indication that Koga and his wolves changed their diet. Koga never showed any remorse for his actions and never said he wouldn't do it again. 2- Sesshomaru tolerates/respects a few people by the end of the series but he very much still sees human life as expendable (see his “Who cares?” line when he hears his action could kill everyone in Kaede’s village). That is simply not compatible with Kagome Higurashi.

The second anon brought up some good points about the misogyny in the fandom, and how male characters like Koga are praised while Kikyo is villainized for less. I constantly see Koga fans criticizing Inuyasha for “being nice to Kikyo despite what she’s done to Kagome” yet these people seemingly have no problems with Kagome being nice to Koga despite what he has done to Inuyasha. I think both Koga and Kikyo have poorly written “redemption arcs”, I think the inukag fandom just talk more about Kikyo/Inukik because Inuyasha did have feelings for Kikyo while Kagome never had any for Koga, so usually it isn’t worth talking about.

As for Koga being "nicer" to her, I think a lot of it is definitely anime-only. There's that one filler episode where Inuyasha insults Kagome and Koga brings her flowers later (if I remember correctly) which is obviously meant to make Koga look like the better choice. I’ve talked about this a LOT on my blog but Sunrise went out of their way to make sure Inuyasha would almost never be kind and honest with Kagome compared to the manga, and they added a bunch of scenes where he insults her. Honestly with all the things that Sunrise changed I don’t blame anime-only fans for having issues with anime!inukag. Kagome has self-esteem issues because of Inuyasha’s ex (who is her pre-incarnation) and on top of that the boy she loves insults her himself? I know a lot of inukag shippers just see it as a joke, but since Kagome’s self-worth is a real issue in the series I don’t find it particularly funny. But if we’re focusing on the manga, Inuyasha is not mean to her, he’s only rude when he’s angry (calls her ‘bakaa’ or uses ‘temee’).

Also, what does Koga even do for Kagome beyond giving her superficial compliments? He saved her a few times, which is what Inuyasha does on a daily basis. Koga said Kagome is “pretty” and “has guts”, which in my opinion pales in comparison to what Inuyasha said about Kagome:

Inuyasha genuinely KNOWS Kagome. She’s his friend. He spends all his time with her. He has seen the best and worst of her. Koga is just a guy who tries to woo her when he bumps into her once in a while. Inuyasha doesn’t compliment her all the time to score points, he says these things when he can tell Kagome is feeling down and truly needs to hear it.

Koga really is just putting on a front to look good in front of Kagome. The things he says to her are not necessarily true, as Ginta and Hakkaku point out.

If he did manage to win over Kagome, who’s to say he would keep up this act? Would they work out in a long-term relationship? What does Koga and Kagome have in common? Like I said, he barely knows Kagome. Unlike Inuyasha, who share Kagome’s values, and share a group of friends with her. Inuyasha knows Kagome’s world, her modern friends and her family (and they love him!). Inuyasha has a demon slaying business with Miroku and lives in a human village where Kagome can thrive as a miko. Koga rarely shows respect for what Kagome wants (he claimed her as his mate and spent the entire series touching her & calling her his “mutual lover” without her consent). Even when Kagome was crying in Inuyasha’s arms after he almost died, Koga still said he “refused to give up on her”. Like the second anon said, the guy really just can’t take a hint (until the very end), and as someone who dealt with men like this in real life I think it’s a pretty big red flag.

Inuyasha literally said he owes everything he has in his life to Kagome. That he was born for her. He continuously chose to live with her instead of dying with Kikyo, risked his life to protect her by giving her the fire rat robe, ditched Tessaiga to save her, jumped into the well every 3 days ready to abandon his world for her. The fact that some people think he’s not the biggest Kagome simp out there and think he’s not “worthy” of Kagome is insane to me.

Inuyasha learned to give Kagome space when she needs to be alone so she can study. He respects her desire to finish school, respects the fact that she loves her world and didn’t pressure her to choose him over it.

Also people argue that Koga’s redeeming quality is that he cares about his pack and getting revenge for the ones that Naraku killed. Well, funny how he completely gave up on that once he lost his shikon jewel shards uh? Koga is a FULL yokai and he abandoned his vow to avenge his friends as soon as he lost his power boost, meanwhile my boy Inuyasha stays true to his promise to protect Kagome even in his WEAKEST form!

Rip to Koga but Inuyasha is simply built different 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, the last point is Inuyasha and his feelings for Kikyo. At this point I’m convinced some people watched/read a completely different series than I did. I mean, the other day I saw a Tik Tok that was like “When Inuyasha runs off to kiss Kikyo for the 100th time” like... what? Inuyasha initiated like 3 romantic interactions with Kikyo in the entire time he has known her. One hug when she was first revived to calm her down, one hug when he told her she could call him when she’s in danger, and the final kiss goodbye to put her soul at peace. Inuyasha is NOT a “two-timer” who “keeps going back to his ex”. He’s a 15 years old boy whose first love got brutally murdered, he started to move on and fall in love with someone else then his “ex” was revived as a vengeful revenant and guilt tripped him into thinking he should die with her. He cares for her and refused to let her get killed by her murderer again, but his real desire was to LIVE and move on and be with KAGOME. At this point anyone who doesn’t understand that probably doesn’t have the emotional maturity to understand the story. I’m not saying that Inuyasha handled the situation perfectly, because of course not, the situation is insane and the boy has no social skills from being ostracized his whole life, but the way some people think he’s a bad person for loving more than one person in his life is insane to me. And you know what sucks? Inuyasha can’t win. If he didn’t care about what happens to Kikyo because he has a new girlfriend, people would call him heartless and would criticize him for treating women like objects that can easily be replaced. And that is one of the main reasons why comparing Inuyasha to other men like Koga, Sesshomaru or even Hojo annoys me a lot: Inuyasha did NOT choose to be in the situation he’s in. He did not intend to be with both at the same time (the anime line “why can’t have a both” is NOT canon).

I think one other issue is people projecting their personal romantic fantasies on the situation. So many people dream of being someone’s “one and only”, of having their partner tell them that they’ve “never felt like this before”, and the fact that Kagome is not the only women Inuyasha ever loved somehow makes his feelings for her less “pure” or less “intense” to them. Which never made any sense to me because 1- Why would you be less “pure” for loving many people in your life? The fact that Inuyasha fell in love & stayed with Kagome despite the fact that his “ex” was revived and wanted him should actually be proof of how much he loves Kagome 2- Kagome IS Inuyasha’s “first” in SO many ways! The first person to make him happy, the first to cry for him and to make him cry, the first to give him a home, the first person he will be intimate with, the first (and only) person he MARRIES. His past feelings for Kikyo does not take away from that. I think the worst is when people argue that Inuyasha “still thinks about Kikyo after her death” like yeah, he’s still fighting Kikyo’s murderer until the last chapter/episode and his guilt got progressively worse as he repeatedly failed to protect Kikyo, remembering her does not mean he’s still in love with her. He can’t exactly wipe out his memories. Some people even argue that he ”shows sign that he loves her” in the bonus epilogue chapter?? Never mind the fact that the epilogue chapter just kind of sucks, Inuyasha didn’t have any reaction when Kikyo was mentioned, he said he didn’t care and he was only worried that Kikyo being mentioned would hurt Kagome’s feelings.

When both Kagome and Kikyo were gone from his life, who did he miss? Did he go to Kikyo’s grave every 3 days wishing she hadn’t died? Did Inuyasha ever think about using the shikon jewel or Tenseiga to bring her back properly so he could be with her? No he never did, because Kagome is the one he was born for and the one he wanted to spend his life with, not Kikyo.

Tl;dr: From what I’ve seen the popularity of kogkag seems to be from people who just like Koga better than Inuyasha and are willing to ignore (or they don’t remember) all the atrocities he committed because they find him hotter and more “charming”, which is fine to me until people actually claim that Kagome should have been with Koga in canon. People who say that are usually just mad about the love triangle because 1- they only watched the anime and haven’t read the manga (and they also misremember the anime) 2- they idealize this idea of being someone’s “first and only love” and they think Inuyasha’s feelings for Kikyo “tarnish” that and 3- they usually lack the emotional maturity to understand the situation Inuyasha was forced in and don’t realize that Inuyasha did the best he could. Inuyasha is a hanyo who was alone all his life and is just starting to open up and trust others while Koga is a full yokai who never had to struggle in his life, and despite that Inuyasha consistently proved that he is a better person. Just because Koga is loud and straight forward with his advances doesn’t make him more loving than Inuyasha, who actually knows Kagome and is romantic and kind to her when it matters the most.

Am I the only one that thinks that Inuyasha and Kikyo was one of the worst ships in Inuyasha? They lived in the feudal Era where demons can transform, Inuyasha can literally smell that it's not Kikyo, and neither one of them had enough faith in the other to even consider the possibility that they were being tricked. Not to mention they can't work together for five minutes. Like sorry, their relationship was all desperation to escape their current life.

Ship Wars are BS and I'm Tired

I'm rewatching Fairy Tail for the first time since middle school, and I'm watching the "Gildarts" episode that occurs before Edolas, and I'm reminded of Lisanna, NaLi, and how some people STILL pull the Nalu vs. NaLi bs.

As someone who ships NaLu, people need to calm the fuck down and LEAVE LISANNA ALONE. Same goes for people for trash on Lucy just for NaLi. But especially Lisanna because I see people all the time rub it in Nali shippers faces that "NaLu is more canon than Nali" and try to paint Lisanna as a bitch from Hell even tho she's NOT LIKE THAT AT ALL IN CANON!!!!!!!! Lisanna is a really sweet character and hasn't been a bitch to Lucy at all within the story. Likewise, Lucy hasn't been cruel to Lisanna either; they both get along just fine the few times they interact together, but shippers on both sides try to pin either girl as Saten incarnate just 'cause they get in the way of their ship, and it needs to fucking stop.

The whole NaLu vs. NaLi bs is basically the InuKag vs. InuKik bs but for the Fairy Tail fandom, except for the fact that Kagome and Kikyou are actually pinned against each other in the canon story, whereas Lucy and Lisanna are not, so why even make it a conflict at all?

(Not that Kagome and Kikyou having a canon rivalry makes the Kagome vs Kikyou bs in the fandom any less excusable. Seriously, InuKag and InuKik shippers need to calm the fuck down too)

Both Lucy and Lisanna are really nice girls who never try to "one-up" the other or be a bitch, so why try to paint them like that???

Both NaLu and NaLi are valid ships that have their own appeal, NaLi being "childhood friends" and NaLu being "friends along the way", so shippers on both sides need to CHILL THE FUCK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

Same goes for InuKag and InuKik. Despite being an InuKag shipper, InuKik is still a valid ship, so both InuKag and InuKik shippers need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN TOO!!!!!!!!

I'm just......just so tired of the ship war bullshit, man.

what i wouldn't have given inuyasha for more kikyo&kaede moments tbh. i know the manga was oddly interested in kikyo more for the love square (narkikinukag), but i did like mt. hakurei arc for kikyo displaying sympathy and kindness to the monk who figured out at last minute he didn't want to die and be sacrificed. and it's kind of when kikyo feels more like she's not some box to be put in by others. and it's one of the few moments where it wasn't focused so much on kikyo being 'the other woman'.

This is a post about Rumiko Takahashi's personal collection of Inuyasha figurines where we can see that she placed Sesshomaru and Kagura next to each other. And here I wanted to show you a detailed analysis showing you how the figurines are absolutely NOT placed randomly. We see that Inuyasha is always placed either next to Kagome, or next to Kikyo, and Shippo is always placed near InuKag. Miroku and Sango are always placed close together and Sesshomaru is placed either next to Kagura or next to Rin. 👀

And here we can see Sesshomaru and Kagura figurines. We can see the detail that these 2 are the ONLY 2 figurines from which Rumiko removed the weapons! Here we can also see chibi InuKag with Shippo.

We can see how the figurines are all placed in a precise sense. InuKik, MirSan, SessKagu and chibi InuKag.

And where is the sword that Rumiko Takahashi removed from Sesshomaru's hand when he's next to Kagura? Here it is!!! 👀

This series of figurines is also completely positioned in a precise sense. In front we can see chibi InuKag with Shippo and MirSan, next Bankotsu and Jakotsu. In the row behind InuKag are fighting Naraku and next InuKik.

Another set of figurines placed completely with a sense. Chibi InuKag, Inuyasha with Shippo, Sesshomaru with Rin and InuKag with InuKik. I can't see if the figurine next to Sango is Miroku but it's very likely that it is.

*Someone* (you know who...) tried to justify this by saying that Sesshomaru and Kagura are fighting... it wouldn't even make sense because the 2 of them never fought! But this justification is even more absurd considering that these 2 figurines are the only ones whose weapons Rumiko Takahashi removed from their hands! And this is an extremely significant detail, it means that she absolutely doesn't see them as enemies but they are together because she sees a connection between the 2 of them. A romantic connection? Not necessarily because she also placed Bankotsu and Jakotsu next to each other but, as a SessKagu shipper, further reinforces in me the belief that SessKagu is the ship with Sesshomaru that makes the most sense. Of course, she also placed Sesshomaru next to a figurine of child Rin... but it's interesting to see how she placed them, he holds the sword in front of her as a gesture of protection. So, at least here, they seem to be paired because Sesshomaru is Rin's protector.

I apologise for asking this if it isn't something you want to talk about but do you know why there is so much hatred for Kagura from so many S*ssr*n shippers/HnY fans? I haven't seen HnY because I don't like sequels that take away the happy ending of the original so I only know a few spoilers through the grapevine, but the Kagura hate I've seen lately from some HnY fans reminds me of anti-Kikyou Inukag shippers from twenty years ago. But Inukag shippers are more supportive of Kikyou nowadays and fandom in general is less misogynistic than it used to be, so I don't understand why another woman being important to Sesshoumaru in the original Inuyasha series is so unacceptable that Kagura gets hate now. Even if people ship S*ssr*n, love isn't a finite resource? Sesshoumaru loving and wanting to avenge Kagura doesn't mean he can't love anyone else, it doesn't diminish his other relationships—especially because Rin was a literal eight-year-old child when Kagura was alive. It's not like Kagura was a yandere type who harmed Sesshoumaru or anyone else he cared about, either, after a while Rin knew she had nothing to fear from Kagura and was squee'ing about Kagura being in love with Sesshoumaru.

Again, I apologise for how long this question was and sending it on Anon, I just didn't want to get hate from S*ssr*n shippers or HnY fans. Kagura's my favourite Inuyasha character, so it made me sad to browse the Inuyasha reddit/tumblr and see people calling her a 'manipulative bitch' and such when I went looking for fanart and fic about her. It's especially strange coming from people who praise other former villain characters like Sesshoumaru, who did worse things than Kagura when he was evil.

but since i'm obviously on the opposite end of the spectrum in this situation & have only really been involved in the tumblr iy fandom for so many years, the only thing i know about any of that drama is that she's perceived as a threat to their yucky ship bc she was really the canon love interest for sesshomaru in the og series. and kagura is obviously the polar opposite of rin in literally every aspect. like, we have a demoness that was born from the body of the main villain who comes out the gate swinging on koga's entire family & is forced to beef with the whole inugang constantly and calls sesshomaru a bitch to his face the second time they meet. versus a cute lil baby who's a complete blank slate. so for people that don't care for her bc of their ship bias it's pretty easy to misinterpret her character & motivations and draw silly conclusions lmao. i'm not gonna say kagura isn't problematic in some ways but LITERALLY WHO CARES it's not that serious?? pretty much everyone in IY has done morally questionable shit. it's a fairy tale set in feudal japan, like. and it sucks that you're coming across negative bs when you're just trying to enjoy yourself in this fandom!! that happened to me too when i first got back into iy in 2020 bc i didn't know that kagura was like severely hated until i joined an iy group on fb (owned by you-know-who, unbeknownst to me) and saw all that weird shit lmao. but there's a lot of really great creators on tumblr, at least, that are anti-sr & pro-kagura, so i hope that you could at least enjoy yourself on this blog!! <3

I got clobbered with this story idea on my drive to work this morning.

I was thinking about how nifty it would be if Goshinboku was more than just a symbol of time, but actually had power over the passage of time itself—to reverse it within a controlled space, or move it forward, or even stop it for a period. If it had power like that, Goshinboku could be why InuYasha didn't age for the 50 years he was pinned to the tree—it put him in a time stasis, and maybe Goshinboku even had some connection to InuYasha's mind/dreams during that period.

Then my brain went to: what if Goshinboku grew fond of InuYasha in the 50 years he was pinned to it, and what if as a result Goshinboku is actually the biggest InuKag shipper of us all? And what if one day the tree is just done with InuKag's emotional tug-of-war?

Like, one day Goshinboku brings its mystical quasi-parental power down on their heads ("That's it, you guys are grounded until you figure this out!") and it creates a time barrier around the village. Within the scope of that barrier, whenever InuYasha and Kagome take a wrong turn or mess up in their relationship progress, Goshinboku reverses time—sort of like a Groundhog's Day situation—and lets them try again until they get it right.

Knowing early-series InuKag, you can imagine how many time loops they'd need to go through before getting their act together. 😁

I'm still toying with whether InuKag are aware of the time reversals or if they forget each loop. Both options could make for good comedy, but right now I'm leaning toward them being aware of it. And maybe they're the only ones who are—no one else in the village, including the rest of the gang, remembers what happened in previous time loops.

Anyway, that's the little nugget my brain is currently turning over like a rotisserie chicken.

1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore?

Honestly- and this PAAAAAAINS to me to say since my middle-school self would be furious at me-but probably Troyella. Obviously, still love them. Still think of them fondly, but compared to other ships, they're on the lower end.

2. Which ship would you consider your first one?

I'm TEMPTED to say troyella again since they were the ship that made me realize what shipping was- and how hard it can go for a fangirl. But in terms of a ship you remember watching, loving, and loving seeing their interactions, that would have to be Tom and Kimberly from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Their chemistry, their moments were the reason why I loved the show so much

I didn't know what ship or OTP meant, but they were the definitely the first couple I remembered LOVING seeing them together

3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?

That would be Troy & Gabriella. The movie wasn't enough for me, so I decided to make more stories on them

4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over?

That would be a tie between InuKag and Robstar. Those were the top 2 ships I remember seeing TONS of Youtube videos and fanart in middle school.

5. Did you ever get into ship discourse?

6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently?

The way I DESPISED LOATHED AND HATED TROYPAY with a burning, burning deep passion. Couldn't stand the ship. Still don't like the ship. And obviously, Tommy x Kat because NO NO NO NO

7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?

Payurain in this WIP I'm really enjoying. Seriously, love these two boys

8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?

Oh dear lord, my OTPS literally have their yachts at this point. And the list of the top ones constantly switch, but at the moment I can say my top 6 include: drarry, zutara, sheith, tododeku, payurain, and of course dickkory

9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?

Oh. Dear. Lord. The way at least several ships can fit this question, but that belongs to my top 3 ships that were done so dirty.

Forever and ALWAYS THESE TWO that had everything. The history, the chemistry, best friends to lovers, ride or die, battle couple...and yet the writers were like, nah

TO INFINITY & BEYOND BEYOND BEYOND: DRARRY . You can't tell me NOTHING. If Harry was a girl, they would have been endgame. If Draco was a girl, they definitely would have gotten together. I will forever stand on this hill

10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?

I wouldn't dislike at all, but I can definitely say after the previous season, they got more on my radar and that would be Geto x Gojo. I've always been intrigued by their dynamic, but season 2 really showed so much depth in their relationship, their friendship, and how things went wrong. Just so well done and also extremely heartbreaking

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

Maybe.....Honestly, I can't think of one. Like none are coming to my head. Closest one I can think of would be Alison x Emily or Spencer x Toby. The former because the toxicity of the ship, the way Ali manipulated and gaslight Emily's emotions was fucked up. Just as Toby letting Spencer think he was dead, let her think she found his corpse, and watch her break down...only to give a half-ass apology.

12. What was your favorite crack ship?

Honstly, Kyo x Arisa from Fruit Baskets- and that is solely because watching the way Arisa constantly rifled Kyo up was too damn hilarious.

13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics off?

Hands down, that would have to be drarry

14. What most of your ships usually have in common?

Probably two sides of the same coin. Different in many ways but similar in others. With drarry, both being just a boy in time of war. For zutara, the sun and the moon. Grump x Sunshine, which is a similar dynamic for many of my ships.

15. What you absolutely hate in a ship?

Hands down, the quickest way for me to hate a ship is the following: A always loving B, B being OBLIVIOUS to A's affections even though the whole country is aware of it, and then when A finally moves on THAT'S WHEN B suddenly realizes OH MY GOSH I LOVE THEM. 🤢🤮🤬😡 I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. Also, if the dynamic of the ship is unequal such as bully and bullied, in which the bully spends 90% of them torturing the love interest and then final 10% actually showing some care...NOPE. NOPE. NOPE.

To continue my list of differences between the fan & Viz translation of the Inuyasha manga, I wanted to add this one from chapter 72 (this scene is manga-only).

The Viz translation bothers me, because it can imply that Inuyasha isn’t inspired by Kagome as much as he is by Kikyo, which isn’t what he is actually saying here. Here’s the original text in Japanese:

桔梗のことは、忘れちゃいけねえ...でも... I can’t forget about Kikyo... But...

やっぱり... On second thoughts...

かごめにそばにいてほしい... I want Kagome to be by my side...

He uses 忘れ which means to forget. "Kikyou is something I can not forget... but ..." verbatim. 桔梗/のこと/は/忘れちゃ/いけねぇ/…/でも/… Kikyou / no koto / wa / wasurecha / ikenee /... / demo /... Kikyou / that matter / is / forget(able) / not able to or can't / but

So the fan translation is more accurate but it’s missing the [やっぱり...] (yappari) part, which means “on second thoughts” or “after all”. It makes sense in context because previously he thought he would be better if Kagome was far away from him for her own safety, but he has changed his mind.

I would never understand ss and nh stans like they act like they are victim of storyline but they got canon( even when that was bad) they always talk about how bad gay shippers are in fandom because they hate the girl between two guy they shipped and act like they are victim for shipping heteros like being hetero or have hetero ships make you some kind of minority like no. You are not, that was the norm over years and it is still the norm. İ would really can't care less if they just stop acting stupid like i'm a ship and let ship person. Just stay your side of fandom and leave sns shippers alone thats not that hard

That's what people who ship het ships always do, act like victims. They think fujoshis are always after female characters, despite the fact they themselves hate on female characters from so called "rival ships" and use specifically misogynist insults. Look at Naruhina/Narusaku, Sasusaku/Sasukarin, Ichiruki/Ichihime, Eremika/Erehisu Inukag/Inukik, Zutara/Maiko and so on.

Recently I saw some het shipper complain how "maybe if I shipped yaoi I would have more content" all bitter about the fact fujoshi content is popular... like how about make more content instead of complaining. Lol.

Sorry but I don’t agree with that anon. If that ship was so popular than the sequel wouldn’t have tanked. The sales wouldn’t have barley made it to 1000. And there would have been a season 3 like the creator wanted. The only thing that was keeping that show alive was inukag. Nothing else. The second that manga ends that will be it for the ship. Thats the only thing shippers have. Not the non canon sequel that never showed that ship in a romantic way and definitely not the merch that still depicts rin as a child. Like if it was so “popular” merch of the two would have been made but it’s not because they are aware of how controversial it is.

Exactly. Not only is there no sessrin merch, it was just the opposite, throughout the whole anime they kept promoting Rin as a child, and what's even more telling is that the creators never did unscripted interviews. They were all scripted i.e. the one doing interviews could only ask specific and generic questions they were handed. It's like Sumisawa knew they couldn't do unscripted ones, because if they did, they would have to answer questions like "What do you answer to people who are disturbed by Rin being the mom?", "Some viewers wonder why Towa and Setsuna doesn't look like Rin, what is the reason for this?", "Why doesn't Sesshomaru care for Towa and Setsuna like he did for Rin?, "Why do Towa and Setsuna have so many powers that doesn't come from Sesshomaru, where do they come from?", "Why does Towa have red eyes?" , "Why does Rin look so young?" etc. etc.

Notice how these are questions around the twins' design they never address in interviews as well as never addressing the controversy that is sessrib itself, the most they seemed to acknowledge it was adding the Retcon that "she was 18 officer" by Jaken, since characters in Inuyasha never had their ages randomly called out like that before, a few ages were only stated in character's introduction scenes, Kagome and Kohaku being two off the top of my head. So many other things didn't make sense with it either (Hisui's age and inukag waiting 7-8 years to have kids for some reason) so yeah, the sudden """18""" comment was clearly a slapped-on addition in an attempt to dampen some of the backlash they received, not minding how it went against some of the narrative and design choices from before (like Hisui should have been 8 years old when Towa and Setsuna were born then and he looks like a two year old, lol, make it make sense).

But yeah, like you said, if sessrin was oh so popular, the anime wouldn't have tanked and gotten cancelled, and there would actually have been promotion and merch of the ship. And again, the creators should have been doing unscripted interviews if they were really proud of their product and not afraid to answer fans' questions. But they didn't and they were. And it says so damn much, lol.
