Inukag 40 ☺️

Coming in at 40 is Blinding Lights by The Weeknd. I'm honestly surprised it's not a little higher on the list, though I've been listening to a bunch of his other songs, so that might be why.

This one ended up being another peek into that Modern AU I keep dabbling in inspired by @heavenin--hell's Inu in a ballcap and a slouchy jacket.

There was so much more to try to shut out in the city. The noise, the smells, the lights… Inuyasha struggled to keep to the building side of the sidewalk in the throngs of people. The performance hall up the road must have just let out and the crowds were pouring out to cover the sidewalks as people went to their cars, the metro… Inuyasha tucked himself into his oversized jacket just a bit more, pulling his hat down over his eyes. He kicked himself for popping out at this time of night when he should have waited for Kagome to get home from her study group. He just wanted to make sure she had something nice to eat when she got back. There hadn’t been much in the apartment, so he’d decided that a trip to the ramen shop down and around the corner was worth it. Mistakes were made. The food in the takeout bag was piping hot against his leg, the scent nearly making his mouth water. But he had to focus hard on it to block out all the smells from the crowd, the street itself, the dumpster in the alley he just passed… Then there were the lights from the bus, the streetlight, and the cars going by. Even with his hat pulled down, the flashing caught his peripheral vision, making him grunt and flinch. He missed the country in moments like this. The stoop to the apartment came into view and the more familiar scents he associated with their building caught his nose. The family on the third floor was making tortillas with the window open. The guy living on the ground floor apartment in the back was frying fish and desperately trying not to set off the smoke alarm. Inuyasha could hear him swearing from his spot on the sidewalk. Most importantly, he could smell Kagome. Looking up, he was a little stunned to find her on the step, waiting for him. Her eyes were worried, but widened then relaxed with relief when she spotted him. He lengthened his stride a little, jostling a few people to get through to the steps and to her. The simple impact of her touch on his arm as she silently greeted him was enough to wash away all the tension in his frame, to calm the agitation and anxiety caused by being out in a crowd of humans from whom he had to hide his presence. She leaned into him as he took her hand, opening the door for them so they could return to their cocoon of safety. As they sat in their tiny kitchen in their tiny one-bedroom apartment, eating their ramen directly out the to-go containers, laughing… Inuyasha was blinded by the glow of Kagome’s smile. The light of the love in her eyes. Maybe the city and its stressors were worth it. For her.

Yes! Though sporadic, I do try (operative) and respond to all of them. It takes a certain set of variables for me to aquire the spoons, but I get there eventually. As for the why, I just like to say thanks :3

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Hm. You caught me. I am a compulsive happy ending built writer.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably One Word? It's the most picket-fenced ending, at the very least.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No. Inuyasha is a drop in the fanfiction ocean, and hate in this realm tends to be an echo, rather than a rabble.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I do! All kinds! Sex positivity is nifty my dudes!

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I do not. Never say never though!

Not that I'm aware of.

Yes! The lovely @minakok translated One Word into Spanish, and I am eternally grateful for her and those who have had a chance to read it 😭

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

Technically, yes! I joined in on an AU art challenge that resulted in InuKag as a Reylo role-reversal piece. One thang led to another and before you know it, @boflicker and I went from brainworming to actualising that into a fic, Irredeemable. I've done a fair few art collabs, but this one is extra special to me; not only is Bo an excellent writer, but a stellar collaborater, and we are very often haunted by this story and it's characters while they're out there in the big wild kicking ass and taking names (love you BoBo) :3

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

Gosh. This one is so hard. How ever shall I pick? (deadpan, unserious)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

...lower your voice. I have every intention of finishing everything ever, prommy. Sharing is another question though :3

Characters (question mark) and The Hook(tm), possibly.

“It’s the first summer rain of the year!” she laughed. “It’s my favorite part of the summer. Come here! Come feel it!” Inuyasha hesitated on the covered porch where he’d taken shelter, but then she turned away from the rain and smiled at him. Drops of water clung to her lashes. She was right, he thought, walking out to her. The rain felt great in the summer warmth.

👀👀 Heavenly Bodies on Spiritual Planes for the ask game

Okay so this one is my one & only Inuyasha thing, & it isn't even written out yet. BUT! I'm vibbing with the vibe of it yaknow!

Centuries Melding into Millennia, Decades into Days

Okay but like what if post-series I made this a bit more tragic slowburn

Kagome realizes that she’ll age & die far quicker than Inuyasha, that they won’t have very long together before it all goes up into smoke, that Inu will stay forever young & apart from her after a few decades of his life

They where way back in the mid 1500s & she was born in 1981, it all came kinda crashing down on her when she turned 20 & Inuyasha still acted like a teenager, she felt wrong for loving him with the maturity gap that would only grow bigger with time, even though Inu was technically older than her

Inu noticed her distress & realized what was wrong, it hurt him more than anything to realize just how difficult it would be for a human & yokia to be together outside of the power dynamic, shed age away far quicker than him

He’d struggled to try & convey his want to be with her forever but even he could tell just how uncomfortable for them if Inu didn’t grow up & mature at the same rate as her, & he wouldn’t be able to anyway it was a road block

So they came to a deal, Kagome[round like 25 at the time] would go back to the future & live her life onward & Inuyasha would grow up & wait for her until the time was right

They agreed to meet again as soon as possible

Centuries could have passed far quicker & almost a decade felt like those centuries

Until finally they met once again, Inu returning to Tokyo after having been away for so long, their love never went stale even with that time apart & the two of them where together once again

Just two people happier than ever to have been reunited through the passage of time

Honestly I can only really think of Inuyasha in his mid-30s with a beard… he’d be so hot & Kagome would most definitely be into it, I know I would at least

They’re still both those goofy teenagers, but have a couple years under their belt & some added maturity

Think about it

Inu who probably built up a massive amount of money for Kagome, so she’d get to live peacefully & content, like some big company all for himself

Kagome who’s been quietly holding out on dating to wait for Inu while also going to college in like history or something & tracking Inuyasha through texts

Kagome’s family & friends bothering her about that cute boy she hung out with in highschool & Kagome being all proud like, He promise to wait for me then we’d get married when we’re older

Cute shit like that honestly

Shippo & Sesshomaru are probably still kicking around, though Shippo might look a lot older… we’ll just pretend he’s a few years younger than Kagome nowadays [also let’s not do the whole Sesshomaru x Rin thing, that’s his daughter right there]

But yeah! My excuse for Middle Age Kagome/Inuyasha!

Hi! I'm not sure if you've ever been asked this before, but why do you think Sunrise decided to go with brown instead of blue for Kagome's eye color?

I don't think the people at Sunrise have ever talked about that, or if they did I haven't heard about it.

As for why they did, I think it's just because it makes more sense? From what I read, there is less than a one percent chance for a full-blooded Japanese person to be born with blue eyes, meaning it can happen but almost never does. Kagome is supposed to be a regular Japanese school girl (minus the whole shikon jewel in her body & spiritual powers), so I love that she looks like one! In my opinion, blue eyes gives her... main character syndrome? Like she just has to stand out for no other reason than the fact that she's the protagonist (which is a thing I don't really like in anime/manga tbh). Also brown eyes are just as beautiful as blue eyes!

I know some people in this fandom headcanon that Kagome has blue eyes because of her spiritual powers, but that seems like a stretch to me so I don't really agree with that headcanon. So this is one of the few changes Sunrise made in the anime that I do agree with 😅

InuKogKagu: "No, shit, there I was..."

“You’re full of it,” Kouga said, leaning back against the booth. “No way she agreed.”

“She did!” Inuyasha retorted, downing another shot, the glass clinking against the table. “I straight up told her she was God’s gift to…to something, and she laughed and said she’d come by later!”

The wolf rolled his eyes, stealing his mate’s final shot for himself. “She was just placating you. Probably wanted to get rid of you so she could report you to the manager.”

Inuyasha swayed as he crossed his arms. “I dunno what placating means, but she wasn’t doing it. She thinks I’m hot.”

Kouga snorted. “A hot mess, maybe.” He honestly couldn’t remember why they’d come to this bar—he was too many drinks in at this point—but it wasn’t to harass the bartender. Keeping his mate out of trouble was a regular occurrence, but this was taking it too far. “Listen, you better apologize—”

“You should both eat something if you want to avoid a hangover.” Kouga looked up and was instantly captivated by a pair of crimson eyes. Matching lips were curved into a smirk, a billfold and a few pens tucked into her apron.

Inuyasha smirked, resting his head on the table. “Told ya she’d be back.”

The woman raised an eyebrow, and Kouga ran a hand through his hair, suddenly wishing he hadn’t had so much to drink. “Sorry if he’s been bothering you. We’re…celebrating something, but we’ve both had too much and should probably—”

The paper covering to one of their straws hit in the face, Inuyasha grinning in triumph before turning to the bartender. “Remember how I was tellin’ ya I had better aim?” He puffed his chest out even as his eyes glazed over and he knocked over a glass of water.

“Might want to work on that,” the woman said, one hand on her hip. “And I thought you said he had better aim, but youwere stronger.”

Inuyasha frowned, trying to remember exactly what he’d told her at the bar. “That was in the beginning. I’m better now.” She gave him a skeptical look. “No, shit. There I was, tryin’ to corner a rat—or was it a spider?”

Kouga groaned as his mate launched into some muddled story about catching pests. He tried to get the bartender’s attention, wanting to let her know it was fine to walk away, but she seemed genuinely interested in Inuyasha’s story, and he eventually blurted out, “You’re not gonna kick us out?”

She chuckled, writing down something on a pad of paper. “Not yet. Just make sure he doesn’t puke on anything. Wouldn’t want to ruin the night.” Her smirk shifted from amused to sultry, and Kouga felt heat pool in the bottom of his stomach. “Do you get off soon?”

“Maybe,” she said. “Let’s get some food into both of you, and we’ll see how things go.” She winked before tugging softly on Inuyasha’s ear, hips swaying as she walked back to the bar. Kouga wasn’t sure what she’d ordered for them, but he was going to do his best to sober up.

Immediately.

Kagura chuckled as she rang in an order of nachos, knowing the added protein from the chicken would help settle the men’s stomachs.

Another server sidled up next to her. “Sorry, you had to work today. I know you planned on celebrating paying off your house with your mates.”

Kagura waved her off. “I’m not about to let you work a Friday night by yourself. And they showed up to keep me company, anyway.” She waved to the two men sitting in the booth, Inuyasha’s more enthusiastic than Kouga’s, and she laughed again.

“Did they?” Kagome asked, following her gaze. “You should’ve told me! Why aren’t they sitting up here so we can chat?”

Kagura shook her head. “The drinking started before they got here. They were just planning on hanging out until I was off, but they’ve somehow forgotten they’re actually mated to me and are now hitting on me and hoping I’ll go home with them.” She met Kagome’s gaze, and they both doubled over laughing.

“Make sure they leave you a big tip,” the other server said, patting her shoulder. “And that they make it up to you for forgetting you exist.”

“Oh, they’ll definitely be doing that,” Kagura promised, winking at the booth again before checking in on her other tables, making sure they both had a clear view of her ass every time she bent over.

Okay, so like I want to know to know about every single WIP you have on that list, because like I'm obsessed with your work, so instead I'm gonna ask for you to tell me about the top three you're most excited to write about. ☺️

That's also a tough one, LOL. Well not really. I had BETTER say my top "most excited to write" WIP is No More Secrets, eh @hnn-wnchstr ? LOL

I'm working on that story for her! It started as a request-fic/birthday-fic that I realized would actually work perfectly in the Secret Santa universe, and so I started it as part four of that once-trilogy. It was originally supposed to be a long one-shot or maybe two (or possibly three) chapters, and now I'm hoping it'll cap at five chapters, LOL. This is the WIP I am currently working on! It will be the next story I post on AO3! It gives us a larger look at how humans interact with youkai in this world, and I go into more details regarding how I've recreated the inu-youkai race to be inherently protectors of humans. I also make use of the evolution of there being 'soulmates' in this universe, which wasn't originally intended back when I wrote the first fic but I already leaned that way in and towards the third story, where Inu/Kag had decided they were soulmates. Since I already went that way I just decided to go for it and so soulmates are totally a thing now, just very rare. There is a decent amount of Inu/Kag in the story because of course, they are my OTP, and specifically we get Inu/Kag being bad asses because there's a wee bit of a youkai problem they both have to help out with, but there is also a lot of Rin and this story features a Sess/Rin pairing. It's an AU and she's a grown ass woman! LOL

The next fic I think I'm most excited to finish is Freak Show, which once upon a time had been my active WIP and so it's pretty far along and close to finished. The reason I called it a 'semi-modern' AU is 'cause it takes place in like sort of the 1930s, but not the real 1930s in either Japan or America. It's also a fake Americanized Japanese-esque sort of mixed world, but it's 1930s technologically, and so old school traveling freak shows are totally a thing. Also too, Kagome is a reiki user, but in this world, reiki users are a secret society of very rare humans. The ones who know youkai not only were real, but are still real, while most humans think youkai (and reiki users) are just myths. So how's a hanyou supposed to earn a living in a world where most humans think youkai aren't real? Come one! Come all! Meet Dog Boy! A man who is half human, half canine beast!

Man, I am torn on picking only one third one, LOL. I'll tell you about a few more, but I'll try to be less wordy, since apparently I can't put a 'cut' in Ask answers.

Heat of the Moment is a canon divergence that opens like a moonless night blanket fic (Inu/Kag alone and huddling in an abandoned hut to survive a blizzard and then whoops they had sex) but then instead of ending shortly after a morning after love confession, the intention is that it will be a long fic and one of my more epic adventures when everything's said and done.

Her Father had a Daughter is another major epic canon divergence that, spoiler alert, includes an OC who is INUYASHA'S DAUGHTER! *gasp*. All will be explained, but the long short of it is she predates Kikyou, her mother was an inu-youkai so she's 3/4 inu, and I arbitrarily decided slow youkai aging means she still appears to be around age 12-ish (if memory serves). Don't worry, Mom's not in the picture and it's an Inu/Kag fic through and through.

I think last I'm gonna just pick A mid-spring moonless night's dream which as stated is the first upcoming sequel for my post-canon After The End universe. It's just a fluffy/lemony new moon one-shot, takes place during the first new moon after Inu/Kag moved into their own hut together as husband and wife, but I'm excited to get it finished and posted because I have SO MANY IDEAS FOR THAT UNIVERSE OMG. I just wanna get the ball rolling already.

In fact, after I finish and post No More Secrets, finishing my reread/editing of ATE New Beginnings and getting it posted on AO3 is my next project before I get back to any other WIP.

84 and InuKag!!

Number 84 is Kaleidoscope Heart by Sara Bareilles. An oldie but goodie. Short song, but tells you a lot in just a little... Kind of what I'm trying to do here! XD

It had been ages since he had come to sit by the well and just think. Now that Kagome was here, it was easy not to think about the well much at all. No need to sit and pine or worry about if or when she would come back. She was here. Sometimes, though, he needed to take a moment to sort out his thoughts. His whole life had changed so radically since the moment she woke him up. Even more now that she was back in his time with him permanently. He had been given friends and friendship. He had been given a family. Now he would have Family. Inuyasha felt his heart race a little at the reminder of what was soon to come. Or rather who… Was he the kind of guy who could be a father? He supposed he was about to find out. “You’re not supposed to walk all this way by yourself,” he called, his chastising lighthearted. “Not my fault you came all the way out here and I gotta come get you.” She huffed a bit as she made it all the way into the clearing. “Are you out here moping for a reason, or just for fun?” Inuyasha stood and went to collect his ungainly wife. “Just thinking. A lot to consider.” Kagome nodded. The fact that she didn’t argue with him about picking her up let him know she was tired from the trek. “You’re nervous.” He didn’t deny it. She patted his chest lightly as he walked. “This right here? This is what matters.” “My muscles?” he asked, a little perplexed. She laughed. “Your heart, baka. The good stuff is in here.” She kissed his cheek. “We’ll figure it out. Together. Ok?” “Yea. We always do, huh?” She smiled and nuzzled her nose under his chin as he carried her home.
