Human beings! We aren’t really that strong, and before 3500 we were limited by how much we could move over any reasonable distance. The invention of a circular object was not in of itself a hard discovery.

The true innovation came when the wheel-and-axle concept was invented. The holes at the center of the wheels and at the ends of the axles had to be very near perfect or too much friction was applied would make jamming and pushing too hard.

In addition to this axles need to be relatively straight and put up with enough punishment when holding the weight of the vehicle. Today technology and materials means anyone can do it. But 3500 BC when everything was a manual process completed by hand it was much more of a challenge.

The size of the Axle is a critical factor, it needs to be snug enough in the wheels hole, to keep the wheel moving smoothly, but not so tight that the wheel is impeded in it’s rotation.

Brain fart! Couldn’t think what to do for breakfast and as I’d been away I didn’t have a lot in. A couple of avocados, farm eggs, sourdough and hash browns! It was lovely. Slice the avocado top and bottom lengthways. Use the handle end of a spoon to fee the stone then gently push it through. Make sure the hole is big enough for the egg. Heat a heavy based pan over a moderate heat, add a tiny bit of oil. Season the bottom of the avocado and pop in the pan to colour slightly. Turn over, crack an egg and put it in the middle where the stone was. Season again. Add a tablespoon of hot water, put a lid over the pan and leave to cook till the white has set and the yolk is done to your liking. Sprinkle with chilli flakes.
