One of my favorite inverts, the pom pom crab! If you're curious about the name, these crabs carry tiny anemones in their claws as their defense. The sweet little sweeping motion is not a cheer, rather he's collecting food from the water column. These guys are pretty shy (or have been so far), but I was thrilled to see 3/5 today. I'm learning and I like to share what I'm learning so any advice, comments or questions are always welcome!
here’s some of the illustrations from my copy of Animals Without Backbones—the chapter heading illustrations are just gorgeous. I got this copy because the library at the field station I was working at was clearing out their inventory and I just loved the cover with its goofy flatworm and charmingly simple title!
Some of the phylogeny stuff is dated but that’s to be expected—the structure and function info is really great though and the book is largely written in a very non-technical style which makes it really nice along with the illustrations and photos
