This is Part 2 of the @/klanced's Voltron: Legendary Rewrite based character designs and we have Hunk!!
Tumblr media
A lot of the notes for hunk were in relation to being clear about him being the tallest and his hair being a little thicker and maybe some ponytail action so I did a doodle of him with a small ponytail in his paladin armour. Every line of his is a delight and I started struggling to pick between them
Part 1: Lance
Hunk
Part 3: Pidge
Part 4: Keith
Part 5: Shiro
Part 6: Allura
Part 7: Coran

Call of Duty OC: Tiala “Shark” Toa
A young female First Sergeant, who joined the U.S. Marines Corps to honor her older brother’s name. Who sadly passed away from one of the toughest missions. Working long and hard to save civilians from being captive by terrorists or any dangerous enemies. She’s the woman who would get the job done.
General:
🦈 Name: Tiala Toa 🦈 Alias(es): Shark, Tia, Ala (by her brothers), T, Alpha 5, First Sergeant T 🦈 Gender: Female 🦈 Age: Mid 20s 🦈 Birthday: November 19th 🦈 Nationality: United State National (American Samoa) 🦈 Place of Birth: American Samoa 🦈 Home: Kahaluu, Hawaii (Moved there to where the base are at) 🦈 Spoken Languages: English, Samoan, Spanish (Learning) 🦈 Sexuality: Heterosexual 🦈 Occupation: First Sergeant in the Marine Corps, Second-in-Command of the Warriors Task Force
Appearance:
🦈 Eye Color: Dark Brown 🦈 Hair Color: Black and Light Brown (Light Brown is highlighted) 🦈 Height: 5’7”/170 cm 🦈 Scars: Only have burnt scars that were traced on her tattoos that were once there on her right shoulder down to her forearm. Very recognizable, so she mostly wears long sleeve shirts to cover it up. No matter what. 🦈 Face Claim: Auli’i Cravalho
Favorites:
🦈 Color: Ocean Blue 🦈 Food: Shoyu Ahi Poke, Samoan Oka 🦈 Drink: Mostly Water (Refreshing) 🦈 Flower: Hibiscus 🦈 Hairstyle: Bun when she’s out of duty or at home, Loose Braid for missions (Usually asked Kanoa to braid it for her before going out)
Personality:
🦈 Myers Briggs Type: ISTJ Tiala is always taking her duty very seriously when she's working. Whatever job you give her; she'll take FULL responsibility to finish it. She's honest, will always open her mind to suggest or advised about the mission. Tiala has self-control when it comes to situations that will tick her off. Choosing her words carefully. She has a very good mind of planning things ahead (You can ask her to plan your wedding or birthday parties or any special occasions!). 🦈 Strict and Caring: Just like her father, who used to be in the military, she is very strict when it comes to training. Making sure that the recruits are not just lacking or sitting around. She made sure they DO things. But she is very caring for her comrades. You can say it's call "Tough Love" (learned that from her parents). 🦈 Hardworking: Tiala is young and strong so she did most of the heavy work for her team. Always help others out with some heavy lifting. Negative Traits: 🦈 Tiala is usually a stubborn gal. She doesn’t usually ask for help. It was really concerning for others to see her working by herself very hard without any assistance. 🦈 Judgmental. She has a bad habit of judging people when in first meeting. Just like when she first looks at her older brother’s, Rangi, girlfriend. She dislikes her RIGHT there. 🦈 Tiala can be reluctant sometimes. That depends on the situations that she is in. Examples: Dealing with the enemies, no sweat. But dealing with the enemies that have families. She will hesitate. 🦈 Most of her comrades say she’s a BAD driver. She’s not TECHNICALLY a bad driver. Just don’t rush her. She’s a calm driver but when you pressure or telling or even ANNOY her to hurry up then she’ll just ZOOM-
Skills and Abilities: 🦈 Fighting Style: Hand-to-Hand Combat 🦈 Weapons: Any sniping guns and any shotguns 🦈 Distinct Weapons: Ka-Bar Knife 🦈 Special Skills: Can dive down underwater about 50 meters and stay underwater for about 20 minutes with one breath. Good reflexes. Family:
Nakoa Loe Toa (Father, Alive)
Elei Toa (Mother, Alive)
Hōne Toa (1st Older Brother, Deceased)
Sami Toa (2nd Older Brother, Alive)
Serah Toa (Sister-in-Law, Samis’s Wife, Alive)
Penny Toa (Niece, Sami’s Daughter, Alive)
Dinah Toa (Niece, Sami’s Daughter, Alive)
Rangi Toa (3rd Older Brother, Alive)
Kanoa Toa (4th Older Brother, Alive)
Hemi Toa (5th Younger Brother, Alive)
Iosefa Toa (4th Younger Brother, Alive)
Tamah Toa (3rd Younger Brother, Alive)
Fetu Fetuao Toa (2nd Younger Brother, Alive)
Iona and Kiona Toa (Youngest Brothers, Twins, Alive) Trivia:
🦈 Tiala’s last name, Toa. Means ‘Warriors’ in Samoan. So you could see that these families REALLY represented their names. By joining the military. 🦈 The only time you’ll see Tiala smiling or laughing is when she’s with her brothers or family or close friends. Any strangers, she’ll just show her serious face to them. 🦈 Love Sharks and the oceans. She secretly has a shark plushie back at home and has a small shark chain hanging on vest pocket. (Kanoa got that for her) 🦈 HATES the cold. It always makes her nose runny and needs a lair of coats and scarfs to keep her warm. 🦈 Heat doesn’t bother her. Even wearing long sleeves and putting her hair down under the heated weather. 🦈 Enjoys dad jokes. Surprisingly.
Background Story:
Tiala was born and raised in the Island where most of her family lives. She was living a happy life learning about her ancestors and culture which she loves. Even spending time with her family. Her four older brothers are looking after her and six younger brothers that she will protect.
Her four older brothers are in the military while growing up. The eldest one Hōne is in the Marine Corps. Along with the other two, named Rangi and Kanoa. And the second eldest, Sami, is in the Navy. It really inspired Tiala that she wanted to join the military too.
It also pushed her to join the military after hearing the news of the death of her older brother, Hōne. Who was KIA during that one mission. And it saddens her even more that it was her 16th birthday. The day he promised to come back home. And now that promise has already been broken.
So she pushed that anger up to immediately sign up to the Marine Corps right after High School. She was 17-years-old at that time and worked long and hard to be enlisted. And after a few tries, she had finally been selected to be in the marine. Tiala had also met up with Kanoa, who was a Corporal at that time, and Rangi, who was Sergeant First Class. After 4 years of serving in the Marines. She had volunteered to pretend to be a worker for the human trafficking that is going on between Asia and the Pacific. Just to get some intel of their next locations.
Her two brothers disagreed at this when they heard about her volunteering but she convinced them and reassured them that she’ll be fine.
Oh how much she regrets saying that. The enemies had found out about her TRUE identity and captured her for interrogation. It’s been two months of torture and being used. It was traumatizing and painful. And then, Kanoa and his team that he’s leading had found her after searching for her for so long.
Seeing her being tied up on a chair in the empty room. Kanoa quickly took her back and put her in the medical bay IMMEDIATELY.
Tiala was truly scared for life. Even with the burnt scar that the enemies had given her. She was being released from the Marines until she was well again. It’s been a year for her to get her sanity back. Thankfully with her family support, she had found her confident again and went back to serving the Marine Corps.
Then later on, Kanoa had decided to create a Task Force to protect the Pacific. And Tiala was the first one he had picked. The two have been working together for 6 years in this Task Force and they have proved a LOT. Saving the hostages, stopping the human and children trafficking. They have done so well to make sure the world is safe from any creeps who dares to hurt people.
Which it got the attention of General Shepherd as he started to call Laswell to contact their General for some interesting missions. Will they take this task?

omg your post about withers?? i honestly never thought abt who else was burried there other than figuring out who Withers IS (i assume you know, given [gestures], but i dont want to be the spoiler if you /don't/, yk?) so that was actually super fascinating!! i also only rlly play dnd in homebrew worlds so dnd lore just goes straight over my head lmao; bg3 has been a LEARNING experience!!
Me too! I'm absolutely not a D&D lore expert so I really only factor in what the game gives me, but imo it does a really good job of including necessary lore and context, and if the Dank Crypt is anything to go by it's also very intricate with its environmental storytelling (like, Dark Souls level imo, but more cohesive and easy to parse). Just the fact that there IS a story to be gleaned from the things in the crypt is juicy to me.
That whole post was brought about by me going "wait whose sarcophagus IS that" and then finding Iosefa's book in the adjacent room. When i first met Withers I thought his obsession with money was an intentional comedy beat--he's a dead guy with the power of life and death at his fingertips but he's still jonesing for walkin' around money--but the more I think about it the more ... interesting it gets.

On 2nd November 1902 The Scottish National Antarctic Expedition led by William Speirs Bruce set sail from Troon on the “Scotia”.
In 1895, the interior of continental Antarctica was entirely unknown, as was much of its coastline. At the 6th International Geographical Congress a motion was adopted declaring "the exploration of the Antarctic Regions" to be "the greatest piece of geographical exploration still to be undertaken". During the following 25 years, no less than sixteen major expeditions were to be sent to Antarctica during an episode widely referred to as 'The Heroic Era of Antarctic exploration'.
Amongst the various national expeditions organized was one from Scotland. Its leader, William Bruce, was one of the most capable polar scientists of his generation. Today, his name is less well-known than those of his contemporaries Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton, but 100 years on from the departure of his expedition, there is growing appreciation of his achievements and those of his Antarctic expedition.
Leaving Scotland on this day 1902, and reaching the Falkland Islands in December, they continued south to make the first oceanographic exploration of the Weddell Sea. Scotia, with a complement of 33, wintered at Laurie Island, South Orkney Islands. Here a meteorological observatory Omond House (pic 2) was established on 26th March 1903. The island was mapped, and when the engineer of Scotia, Alan Ramsay, died during the Antarctic winter, his grave became the first in the island cemetery. Scotia revisited the Falkland Islands in December 1903 then called at Buenos Aires, Argentina, where transfer of the meteorological station to the Argentine government was arranged through the British Legation. Scotia sailed to the Falkland Islands for a third time then back to Laurie Island where the transfer was made on 22nd February 1904
This second southern voyage saw the discovery of the northern part of Caird Coast, Coats Land (named for two brothers who had funded much of the expedition). With no landing possible on the Antarctic continent the ship then called at Gough Island and Cape Town, South Africa. A comprehensive scientific programme was conducted throughout the expedition; cine photographs and sound recordings were made.
Laurie Island is now the oldest continuous meteorological station operating in the Antarctic. The Argentine government has maintained and rebuilt it at various times. The ruins of Omond House remain; they are one of the historical sites declared under the provisions of the Antarctic Treaty. The original magnetic observatory remains in use and a building, constructed in 1905, is also preserved. The latter, now called "Casa Moneta", houses a small museum on the history of the island.
William Speirs Bruce, a natural scientist and former medical student from the University of Edinburgh and the expedition leader, had previously visited Antarctica as a member of the whaling reconnaissance from Dundee in 1892. He was a member of the Jackson-Harmsworth Expedition  to Zemlya Frantsa-Iosefa, in the Arctic.
In 1907 the Bruce and his family, settled in a house at South Morton Street in Joppa near Portobello, in the first of a series of addresses in that area. They named their house "Antarctica". He died at Liberton Hospital, Edinburgh on 28th October 1921. In accordance with his wishes he was cremated, and the ashes taken to South Georgia to be scattered on the southern sea.

Eliza is, continuously, the most difficult to deal with out of all of Viktor’s siblings. They’re separated by half a lifetime of experience and strife; Viktor had already been alive during the earliest days of Konstantin’s fledgling success, while Eliza had had the fortune to be born into that hard-earned wealth and power undeserved. They don’t interact frequently, simply for the fact that Iosefa’s endless patience when dealing with all siblings eclipses Viktor’s own, and when they do, it’s in short sporadic bursts which inevitably leave both parties irritable.
The aftermath of the hippodrome event, however, leaves no space for personal feelings. Viktor summons each of his relatives to the casino over the span of the week following the catastrophe, and today it’s Eliza’s turn.
He’s reviewing the security footage of the stables for what feels like the one-hundredth time when she steps into his office on the building’s uppermost floor, squinting slightly at the screen. “Close the door behind you.”

Starter for: Sefa and @dantes-ex-inferno
When: March 2024
Where: Liddell Hippodrome
Iosefa Tamaroa is many things: a rock, a constant JW presence that's slowly made his way up the ranks through grit and loyalty, a family man. But also, regrettably, jealous.
He's had a fairly predictable night of trying his best to stamp out small fired before they can reach Victor's attention, but catches sight of a face out in the crowd and froze like he'd seen a ghost. How the fuck did he not know that Dante was invited. Was it kept from him? Does the end of his sentence mean that Dante just thinks he can waltz back into his same level of respect and power? He grits his teeth, glaring over the rim of his glass as he downs the bottom of his glass of champagne and makes his way over.
"Excuse me? It's... certainly been a while." He smiles cordially, tension in his eyes behind the mask, and extends a hand. "Sefa Tamaroa, the right hand. Good to see you again."

Right okay no because episode 4 season 2 of Voltron has been pissing me off since I rewatched it omfg so I’m going to rant about the episode, what parts I found to be be especially egregious and why and then maybe some of the changes I would’ve made.
Right so Greening The Cube pisses me off for one big glaring reason: Pidge’s character development
I will start with the Olkari to really get into why everything about this very Pidge centric episode pisses me off.
So the Olkari are described by Coran as a proud class of engineers, builders of vast cities that could change the shape at the whim of their creators and (unfortunately cause Voltron does this with too many alien species they introduce) ‘a seemingly magical ability to manipulate solid metal and with the wave of their hands build a computer inside a block of steel’. This is a species that is known specifically and immediately for their ability to ENGINEER (this is important) and their technological prowess.
(on a side note though, can someone tell me why the writers and producers decide as frequently as they do to make alien species just kinda ‘have hand wavy magic’ as like their main thing they do, like do this even with the Olkari a little even though their whole deal is like technological and engineering prowess??)
Now we find this out when the team have that spore fight at the beginning of the episode when we learn this is a specifically Pidge centered episode with her classically knocking Lance down a peg by noting that ‘a billion sunsets happen everyday, some genius engineer actually built this’. This line right, this exchange is what the episode tells us it’s built on - it’s not actually.
Much like everything in this show especially in the first two seasons, it has good concepts and terrible execution, no desire to actually develop the characters and so little time in a given episode that they always use so inefficiently so this is an ambitious thing to episode to attempt to tackle in 23 mins, and the fact that this exchange is had with the character that I’m pretty sure the voltron writers process for writing his lines was picking bits of paper out of a hat with the options being ‘flirt’ ‘bad joke’ and ‘dumb’ written on them isn’t helping it’s case.
But in a better show that cared about their characters, this exchange is important at establishing this as a viewpoint Pidge has and opposing viewpoint for her to grapple with throughout the course of the episode. Pidge is arrogantly smart and there’s good reason for that - she’s never wrong. Because she is so often right (often because the writers just say she is), it creates the illusion that she is avid and open learner, but this one line kinda suggests otherwise. Lance is ignorant to dismiss the specific mathematics and engineering that had to go into building the castleship, but it’s interesting character wise how equally quick Pidge was to dismiss the idea of sunset being beautiful because it’s just a natural process that happens every day. Pidge doesn’t really get or seem to consider the ways in which natural or everyday processes in of themselves can be beautiful and valuable.
So we get to the spores and Pidge hears about this planet of technological advancements and engineering and is super excited but do you know who in this episode I don’t see getting super excited despite ENGINEERING being a huge part of his character and who he is, and who would likely be an interesting foil to Pidge as despite his own tendency towards being suspicious and worried about new things tends to be a lot more open to learning new things?! HUNK ‘IOSEFA’ GARRETT!!!
Hunk is the fucking engineer of this team! And you know how we establish that this is how Hunk could be the foil? Because when Pidge points out that the spores or pulsing in a programmed manner rather than a strictly natural one, it is HUNK that points out that he thinks it may be a code and jumps to wondering who the code could be from, not willing to dismiss the idea that this spore is coded. Pidge doesn’t quite outright dismiss it, but she says she doesn’t know because it makes no sense. She makes a definitive statement “You can’t program a spore”
Now Pidge and Hunk should be both be excited for this, but in the actual episode, we see this excitement immediately deplete when Pidge is informed they will not be going to the tech haven, but the forest. Once again, this can build off the point of the episode because it establishes another related thing about Pidge’s character. Not only does Pidge struggle to appreciate the beauty of something like a sunset, almost dismissing it, but she also can be quick to presume that unless something is within her specific wheelhouse of knowledge, that it will not be of interest to her. I believe that if we keep Hunk excited here, this would immediately boost the characterisation already present in the episode. Hunk is not deterred by going to the forest, but Pidge presumes theres nothing that will be of interest to her and therefore is going to bore her. Because the point of this episode should be Pidge can be quick to dismiss things she sees as simplistic, boring, everyday and natural things and that by dismissing them as being beneath her, she limits her own knowledge by doing so.
Which brings me to the team testing out the Olkari tech, and Ryner, the Olkari engineer they interact with the most, remarking that the commands using the headset should be in binary code. It is some of the few actual science in the worldbuilding for this place but I think it messes with the characterisation for Pidge. This is tech that has had to be thrown together using the surrounding forest and resources and having it be specifically be operated in a manner that Pidge out of everyone is an expert in rewards her in a way that it shouldn’t. Pidge has already dismissed that this will have any interest to her (she literally once again reinforced just before this arc when Ryner states that natures designs are superior to any they could devise and Pidge remarks that she will take her computer over a tree any day)
Pidge should not be rewarded in this moment by having an immediate aptitude for this tech. I believe for this part, Hunk should be the most likely to be able to work these things, and that Keith and Lance are shortly after, when they show a willingness to defer to a more knowledgeable party when they’re struggling to get it. But Pidge should have the most trouble. She doesn’t get why she is able to pick it up, and is insistent that she does it alone. Shiro maybe asks why she won’t go and just ask Hunk for help.
Because ultimately, Pidge has built up an identity of being self sufficient and being gifted. She may have gotten picked on, kids may have excluded her, but she understood things they never would. They may have been stronger and bigger, but she was right. And nothing would change that. Well, until she can’t get the hang of this tech.
I think with the way that the cube is used in this should incapacitate the lions for now. They need this tech to infiltrate the main city and regain their leader. Pidge has to stay behind in the forest with Shiro while Hunk, Lance and Keith take the lead on that mission because she isn’t able to work it. The leader is supposed to be the genius leader that is the only one capable of designing the cube who is being threatened but I like that he turns out to be safe and was working with the galra. And I think he should reflect something about Pidge. Lubos is a genius, and he knows that the Galra need him, cause they can’t build this without him. But he believes that this value he has to them means that he has the upperhand, they can’t pull one over on him because he’s the one with all the cards. But he’s thrown his own people under the bus in the name of a plan he turns out to not have the upper hand in because he fails to consider that there was value and purpose in the simpler things, his people didn’t need their value to come from being a part of building something advanced for some one else, they could derive joy and purpose from the everyday things too, and has to actually be rescued by Lance, Keith and Hunk when this all backfires on him.
Now what happens in the episode is that Pidge is told she must have a deep connection with nature which she denies but then has an aptitude for this tech and has the best lion for the plan and saves them all from the galra soldiers. Lubos is revealed as a liar and they all get in their lions and find their weapons don’t work. Now of course, cause in Voltron canon, Pidge is the only one who notices things in her episodes and points out that the cube they use their lions to attack is absorbing their attacks and gets to have an i told you so moment as it gets fired back at them and somehow no other person realises this. Its echoing like Coran’s cube. They try physical hits but it does not work and Pidge is soon shot down in Green. Ryner uses telepathy now to tell Pidge she must bond with her lion more as the Olkari heal her lion and she kinda just sits and thinks about how circuits and codes are like tree roots and that seems to be enough.
She then shoots at the cube, and despite it never having worked, it works now and a tree root grows out the cube destroying it.
Once again, Pidge is just kinda being told she can do things and then she does them or just suddenly comprehends and this all suddenly works out and means so much of the initial set up is fucking pointless. Cause what does Pidge learn here that she didn’t already learn ten minutes ago after being shown to be reluctant to accept new information and then immediately changing her mind cause the plot required it? And on top of this, she saves the day doing the same thing the others did, shooting at it with her lions gun and it simply works cause this episode is Pidge centric?
I think the lions stay down for now, they need to use this Olkari tech to shut the thing down before Pidge uses her lion to destroy it with her lions gun. Because I believe that Pidge should not only not have an immediate affinity for this tech, but that as a result of this, should be able to by the end of the episode, which will prompt the bonding with the Lion later to gain access to that ability, the ability to not just appreciate the way that nature can relate to technological advancement but be able to appreciate the value in it. Pidge in the time the others are getting Lubos begins to explain to Shiro that she hates needing to ask for help. Shiro reminds her that she’s part of a team, and her skills are important, but there are things the team can offer perspective on too.
She tells him she knows but and she doesn’t quite finish it, because maybe a little part of her was still valuing her worth to others based on the superior knowledge and programming she could provide and that this in turn made the other side of the coin that she was on some level undervaluing her teammates for not having those same skills. Hunk took to this tech well, he’s not just an engineer but he works a little more intuitively than she does, and Keith while stubborn about fighting and the things he’s good at, is more than comfortable asking advice from those for things he’s not well versed in, and while yes, similarly, Lance can be quick to dismiss the beauty of engineering, he was quick to recognise when this viewpoint did not serve him or the people he was trying to help, and swallowed his pride and adapted to achieve the goal. And more importantly in their comparison from the offset of the episode, Lance can be insecure, but he’s not afraid to be wrong, in fact he expects it.
The core of this episode should be Pidge values intelligence, because to her, if she’s not right, if she’s got it wrong then what value can she have to anyone. And that this belief is limiting her.
Pidge defers to Hunk’s expertise, willing to stay back when the plan to deactivate the cube goes ahead to make she can understand this tech better and maybe get word to the others once she gets it. She can’t help until she can work their tech.
The fights begins to not go well, the cube reflects back at them so Pidge figures out deactivating it will require using attacks not against it, but to isolate it from stimuli it can use against them, but the cube is beginning to mess with the coms and she needs to get out there to them to let them know. She’s scared but if she’s wrong, she’s just gotta keep trying, because being afraid to be wrong will only keep her from getting to them. Ryner encourages her to think of the way nature can be like technology, evolution in a way was a series of refining and improving on a design in response to new conditions, a sunset can only be enjoyed the way it is because a series of variables came to together by chance and refined to allow the experience to be had. Pidge thinks on this, the way that this tech is the same way, and the tech begins to work. She’s still a litlte shaky but she’s beginning to get the hang of it.
She gets the info to them, and they able to lure the cube somewhere that keep it isolated from things it can weaponise, and the Olkari are able to power the cube down. There is the worry that the cube could be activated if the Galra come out to find it, but Pidge feels her lion nudging her mind, able to reach her now the cube has been deactivated. She runs to her lion and rather than thinking of her lion as tech first, sentient second, she recognises that Green has an idea and this is when the ability to use Green’s ray to create spontaneous organic tree growth is used on the cube to split apart the design from the inside. Normally she’d be sad that a design like this is destroyed but in a weird way she can appreciate that is actually looks kind of neat. The other’s remark also that they think it looks cool, Lance even taking a photo of it and sending it to Pidge.
As they head off, Ryner thanks Voltron for their help and plans to join the coalition and gifts Pidge with a small simply engineered model that looks like the machines they had to utilise. Its one of the initial design models they made for the machines and Pidge thanks Ryner for it. As they arrive back at the castle, the little model takes pride of place in Pidge’s work station.
Ultimately the point of this post is that the original episode as it stands frustrates me as it’s an episode that clearly wants to get into Pidge’s character and explore it a little but spends most of the run time being too afraid to allow some of Pidge’s flaws to take any sort of precedence in the episode or allow any of the other team members to offer her any sort of perspective on these flaws. Its too afraid to let Pidge grow and learn things and be wrong. Allowing other characters to interact with these traits of hers, contradict them, and act as foils to them isn’t taking attention away from Pidge, it’s an opportunity to highlight something about her as a person. You can use other characters and how to respond to the main character focus to learn about them through the ways they differ.

Matteo wakes up to the sound of yelling echoing off of the stone of the cell.
“Hey! Let us go!” The chains rattle across the cell as the other prisoner lunges for the door, stopping short at the end of their leash. Matteo has to admit, the iron circlet around their necks are overkill- the handcuffs keep either of them from moving quite effectively. They’re not angry, not threatening.
They’re desperate.
They’re scared.
Matteo just closes his eyes. Whoever they are, they’ll tire themselves out soon enough. They keep yelling in that vein over and over, saying their friends, their parents, the police will find them, until finally the clanking of chains and the rustle of movement slowly peter out.
A minute of blessed silence passes. Then two.
“What’s your name?” The voice is low, barely concealing the soft tremble.
Matteo doesn’t answer, turning to press his cheek against the stone. The cold soothes the growing bruises blooming across his face, the sensation familiar and alien at the same time.
“Can you hear me?”
He stifles an amused huff. They think he’s deaf. Maybe that’s for the best.
“Well, if- if you can hear me, you can call me Sefa.” The voice is getting smaller with each word. It’s for the best. He didn’t get a good look as they were dragged in, but all he had to see was the pastel hues on clothes that hung off a thin frame to know someone like them wouldn’t last more than an hour in a place like this. Better not to get attached.
The quick hitching of breath is the next thing he hears. Then soft sobs.
Fuck. They’re crying.
He stays still and silent, hoping they’ll tire themself out. He can wait. But as the minutes tick past, the soft, pathetic sound doesn’t stop. No matter how he tries to tune them out, the pitiful noises worm their way into his ears, and he finally sighs. Fuck. “Matteo,” he says gruffly.
The crying stops immediately with a soft gasp, but he doesn’t turn. “I- huh?”
“My name. It’s Matteo.” Fuck, he’s going to regret this.
Sefa tries to mask their sniffling, but they do a poor job of it. “Hi,” they whisper, voice cracking around the word and damnit, pity starts to coil around his heart.
“Hey.” Slowly, cursing himself every second, he turns towards them. In a matter of seconds, he’s taken in the pale brown skin, tightly coiled dark hair, some sort of eye makeup tear-smeared across freckled cheeks. Fuck, they look so scared.
“Do… do you know what they want?”
“No.”
They don’t respond, finally, but he watches as their shivering form curls up as much as the chains allow in their corner, tucking their head against their knees and hiding their face until all he can see is the pastel flowers dotting the pink of their shirt. He holds his nerve for a few minutes before he sighs and gives in. Maneuvering it awkwardly around the manacles, he tugs off his jacket. “Come here.” They immediately look up, wide-eyed as he jerks his head. “I know you’re freezing. Take my jacket.”
Their eyes dart nervously between his face and the well worn leather before they slowly shuffle towards him, making a soft noise as the end of the chain goes taut. Matteo does the same, carefully arranging his jacket around their shoulders- fuck, they’re dwarfed by it.
“Thank you,” they say timidly.
Matteo looks away. “Don’t mention it.” He expects to hear them slinking back to their corner, but he has to clamp down on his instincts to stop himself from lashing out as the warm weight of their head slowly rests on his shoulder. They’re... asleep. Something warm and protective stirs in his chest as he stares down at the tiny, scared, inexplicably trusting person that doesn’t belong in a shithole like this. They don’t belong anywhere near someone like him.
Fuck.

The Captain of the US Marine Corps and the Leader of the Warriors Task Force. A man who has confidence for his team that they will protect and save the people from any threats. Personality:
🇦🇸 Myers Briggs Type: ESFP If you think that Kanoa is the kind of Captain who is VERY serious. You guessed wrong. First time meeting, when you salute him first and he’ll do it back. And give you a big HUG (He’s a hugger by the way). He will be the first responder without even THINKING. Like going into the battlefield not caring of other dangers but focusing on one main thing. Just like Tiala, he chooses his words carefully since he doesn’t want to upset or offend other people. He’s also an older brother figure for his comrades. Since he always bail them out from any troubles that they have caused. But he still needs to think of a punishment if they went TOO far. 🇦🇸 Hilarious: Kanoa is the most FUNNIEST guy you will ever met. He will always find a way to bring up some ridiculous story or jokes to his team. And they’ll laugh with him. And sometimes AT him too. 🇦🇸 Strong Common Sense: Even though Kanoa is the funniest and the nicest guy you’ve met. Don’t think that you can take him down so easily. He has good common sense. He trusts his own judgment but is open to other suggestions.
Negative Traits:
🇦🇸 Kanoa always so prideful for his team and his own work. You can hear him bragging about the good thing about himself for HOURS. 🇦🇸 Good at hiding of his pain (mentally). He also has “Smiling Depression”. Smiling in front of everyone making them think that he’s alright but on the inside he’s just a stressful Captain. 🇦🇸 Kanoa is like Tiala when it comes to deal with an enemy who has family. 🇦🇸 Kanoa is another one of those TERRIBLE driver. He can drive perfectly in a very calm state but when you ask him to speed up. This man will just ZIG-ZAG left and right.
Skills and Abilities:
🇦🇸 Fighting Style: Hand-to-Hand Combat 🇦🇸 Weapons: M4A1, HK416 and M550 🇦🇸 Distinct Weapons: Fixed Blade Dagger 🇦🇸 Special Skills: Has a good sense of improvising last minute. Like, when a mission goes wrong and it doesn’t go as planned; Captain Kanoa Toa got your back by finding another way around  to finish it.

Trivia:
🇦🇸 Kanoa is the only funny kind of siblings in his family. Always make a good joke to keep them laughing and make them forget all of the bad things that happened. 🇦🇸 He’s the 2nd brother that Tiala is really close to after his older brother, Hōne, had passed away 🇦🇸 Kanoa will give you dad jokes 24/7 and even gives you the most embarrassing story about his brothers and his sister. But NEVER about himself. 🇦🇸 He’s always the first one to ask his comrades of who wanted to arm wrestle with him. If they win, he’ll get them ice cream. 🇦🇸 Give good love relationship advice but never get one for himself. (He’s single as heck man and he’s in his 30s!)
Background Story:
Kanoa was proudly born and raised on the island. The funniest man you will ever meet. He joined the Military at the age of 17. Which means he signed up right after High School. Just to keep the family lines going. He was really inspired by his dad, Nakoa, hearing his stories of joining the military.
He signed up with Rangi, his 3rd eldest brother, for the Marine Corps and they both started working hard on reaching to the top. He had also met his other older brother, named Hōne. Who was a Lieutenant at that time. Always make good fun with him during their military times. Until he heard the news of Hōne being KIA from one of the missions. It really took a toll on him.
But he kept going as he worked even harder to pass up the ranks. Until he reached up to the rank of being a Corporal. That’s when he met his sister, Tiala, who is a Private. He was happy and proud to see his little sister working hard to honor their older brother’s name. Until 4 years later, he found out about Tiala volunteering. To go on a solo mission to find out about the intel of the next location; by being the pretend victim for one of the human trafficking.
He’s not very sure about this mission until he gives in to Tiala reasoning with him. But how much he wishes he could take his words back. Finding out that his little sister has been taken away by the enemies. He was devastated and angry to hear this news. So he asks permission from the General to let him and the team he chooses to find her. FAST.
He didn’t give up on searching for Tiala until 2 months later. He finally found her. From the location where no one even KNEW it was there. He raided into the enemies hide out and unalive almost everyone without hesitating.
He took her back and stayed with her in the medical bay. Kanoa was heartbroken to see her in this state and that’s when he decided to make his own special team. He named it “Warriors Task Force”. And started working under one of the Generals of the Marine Corps, Alana Kalani.
He promised himself to bring protection and justice to the people who were victims from the trafficking and being hostages. And that’s when he became Captain of the Marine Corps.
