i think i wouldn’t hate disco elysium’s collage mode nearly as much if it weren’t for 1) the way that it was marketed in such a tasteless, soulless manner, let alone the fact that it was a last ditch distraction from a dead on its feet studio piloted by dumbass thieving execs and released on the day of the court declaration, and 2) those dumbass fucking stickers
like if it had been included with the base game from the start and had been titled something a bit more tasteful and in-line with how i would have liked the feature to be marketed as— something like “exploration mode”, something that perhaps could only be unlocked after completing the game for the first time, AND didn’t have those stupid as hell visually and tonally incongruent with the artstyle stickers, i would have applauded it as a nice little bonus for being able to study and appreciate the 3d models and environments for reference.

Ahoy! It is time for a somewhat more on-schedule episode of Vex's Mechs and Memes. I have taken all but one other of @vexwerewolf's very excellent memes about the mechs of Lancer and voiced them like I'm Dave's Spokesman from LoadingReadyRun.
For what I believe is #27 out of 28 (at time of writing), I am going to present the one that probably served as the prologue for a level in Viscera Cleanup Detail. The Caliban!
I hope you enjoy! Also, three things of note:
1. I might not be able to get an episode in next week
2. The next episode will not be the last
3. You have the power to determine what the next episode will be through this poll

I'm so glad you're saying the quiet part out loud game fandoms need to start gate keeping again because across the board all video game fandoms have seen a surge of garbage ooc content because the locals only engagement with it is a 3 second thirst cam on tik tok, then they apply the same ol leather dom daddy or uwu baby girl on the sexy white man of the moment rinse and repeat. Or they all come over here declare themselves king shitlord over a blorbo and pump out shittakes and headcanons that feed into an audience that's equally as uninformed or doesn't engage with the medium.
Meanwhile the folks who understand character and story nuances and have played or actually interacted with the games are left with surface level ooc BS to wade through so its very frustrating to see someone proudly admit they skipped out on something as character driven as Mgs and worse still that they have an audience consuming it.
Oh my gosh, yes, the damage that TikTok has done to these games is fucking horrific. They think if they watch 5 fan edits they can call themselves a fan, lol. Literally, they do not care about the games or the character's stories, despite what they say when they're defending themselves from gamers who call them out on their BS. They're just a bunch of brain-dead horny weirdos who invade fandom spaces, not to learn about the material but to force everyone to have to see their NSFW comments all the time (e.g., spamming the tags with smut and spamming people's gifs with their horny fantasies), but then don't produce anything else. No character analysis posts, no meta posts, no actual critiques of the gameplay/structure. Just smut and brain-dead bullshit. And when I say character analysis posts, I mean like actually dissecting the character, not just a fucking screenshot of fandom wiki and people going "uwu guys I didn't know this!" even though it was mentioned in the first 5 minutes of the campaign that they didn't play and/or watch. And then they think they're an authority on the game or a major name in the fandom, or that they even have an equal footing in this fandom, just because they have a couple of gross TikToks w/ a sped up song about some white dude bookmarked.
And yup! I haven't played MGS, but any one who has played video games for more than 2 weeks and has been a part of the subculture can tell you how historically and culturally important that game series is for all video games. And then they're like, not bothering to even play the games or understand the character lore. Just write smut about another blorbo you actually know nothing about and you're too lazy to learn about! Fucking pathetic. And the fact that we have to deal with it all the time, too, like you said? Fucking annoying.
It's also such an insult to the game developers who work countless hours on the games they claim they don't care about, but they're still writing pages upon pages of unrealistic porn about these developers' IP. Like, come on.

Might be a hot take but a major character’s death is really only as good as the weight and the treatment that the narrative gives it. Sure, any author has the ability to write death as they see fit. But whether the consumer (of any given form of media) is actually able to emotionally connect and resonate with the departure of someone who has occupied a good chunk of narrative space very heavily depends on how it’s treated within the story. If it’s a major character, the narrative needs enough built-in breathing space. As in, the consumer doesn’t have to fill in the blanks as to how the death impacted the plot or the remaining characters. Let the narrative do that for them, and that would actually allow the consumer to better react and relate to that major death (sadness, anger, joy, etc). Allow the rest of the characters (who were impacted by the deceased) to react to their parting. Let them engage with the death in a manner that helps justify the character’s inclusion in the narrative to begin with. Make it clear how the character’s life and (especially) their death relate to the larger themes of the story. Because most consumers aren’t stupid. We don’t want our hands held at every waking moment, but we also don’t want our investment in a story to be insulted just for the sake of a cheap shock. Give us time to breathe and grieve. And respect that we have put in a lot of emotional investment in a story and its characters, and we deserve to have that acknowledged.

It’s apart of tlou’s identity to have a high graphical fidelity. Since the very first game realism has been at the forefront so it makes sense to keep updating the game to preserve that identity. The remaster just shows how naughty dog is keeping its integrity and they’re care for their current franchise.
To me it just shows that ND has nothing else to do. These remasters are cash grabs

hot take!! WARNING!!!
my favorite video game genre is actually when a game is given all the time in the world to be finished and be as high quality as possible and it isn't announced TIL it's ready so there's no pressure on the developers to rush things and probably less crunch culture because of that, delays being allowed anytime possible cause no one online even knows about the ding dang game yet.
and the game is filled with so much love and care, you can deadass tell the company and everyone involved in the project had a fucking blast making it.
and everyone is happy with the final result.
and the people getting the SUPRISE announcement get a new high quality and amazing experience on the same day it was announced because everything is already done to perfection already and no more work is need to be done.
have fun, enjoy our game.

The worst thing about the whole AI BS is that it honestly could be an amazing tool for artists, writers, and creators if businesses looked at it that way instead of as a way to not pay people for their work. 😑

Faux Artifice Concept Art: Logo for Albireo Cybernetics
A lot of thought went into this logo, and I wouldn't say I have any graphic design experience but as an illustrator/concept artist it was fun to come up with a brand icon for the main cybernetics facility in my story!
I love that the name of the facility also kind of found itself through the design, as I knew I wanted sparkles as a motif in it. from there I needed a name, and the Cygnus constellation came to mind. My friend already has an OC named Cygnus, so I couldn't use that. Turns out the star for the constellation’s head was a binary star that fit the color palette I wanted to use!

Ok Xbox I know that your game output in recent years has been uh, little bit not great (not taking Bethesda and maybe activison blizzard into account) but I have a suggestion to make everyone love you again: bring back this silly little guy

How 'Sparks of Hope' outgrew its 'Super Mario Galaxy' inspirations
Apparently Nintendo doesn't consider fun to be a good reason for adding more content from Galaxy into Sparks of Hope. If the devs really want to include more Mario refference next time, they really need to come up with really crafty explanations like making it epic and showing us how much they love Mario or something. Personally I am happy with the final product, but Nintendo didn't need to be too stiff with their IP.
If an Edge game is to be made, they would slowly start moving a bit away from the Mario world to start their own thing, because it can get kind of too restrictive here with Nintendo.
What are you thoughts on this reveal, tell me in the comments below or reblogg it to share your thoughts! Great night I wish you all and I will head now out for some sleep! I need it!
