I’m genuinely surprised by viewers who seem upset over the plotline of I Promised You The Moon (season 2 of I Told the Sunset About You). It seems very naive to imagine a couple that got together in high school remained monogamous for life with no bumps in the road. In particular a gay couple that popped off to college to hang with theater majors, the gayest lot on campus. I’m not saying it can’t happen, I’m just saying I’d prefer a story about the other 98% of high school couples.
Tumblr media
I prefer this story. Which… if you think about it… is still the story of a high school couple that sticks together so it’s still the 2%… so stop hollering, it’s still a love story.
Personally the idea of having only been with one person my entire life sounds like a fate worse than death, but I’m a pragmatic romantic.
In the realm of this story, we are dealing with two young men who are very much in love. So yeah, it hurts a bit to see one of our boys straying - but within the context of the story it makes perfect sense. They’re both growing up and figuring out who they are as adults. There is tension in their relationship and a lot of push and pull. And our cheater is true to his character in the first season - always the slowest to digest his emotions, worried, impulsive, pondering “what if,” and a bit shameless with his ability to hurt others while he shuffles through his internal processes.
Tumblr media
I dunno. But I do know that I would not enjoy a drama genre that did not offer me variety in how couples are portrayed. We need the bl stories about cheaters. If you think about it, they’re both cheaters - I mean in season one our little sassy sweetheart spent months separating his crush from his girlfriend. Ya dig?
I like that their relationship wasn’t perfect. I like that they made a mess and still managed to find each other again. I still hope they make the 3rd season, as I believe this is an intended trilogy. And whatever mess they throw at this pair in that season - I want to see it. Even if it’s an end to their relationship. Even if it’s an end to their friendship. Even if there’s a death. I’m invested in their story, I wanna know.

Hi! I'm here for the ask game and ready for you to choose violence! I'm interested in questions #3, 12, 18, and 25. If you don't mind, I want to narrow these questions to BL only, unless you have a particularly violent non-BL answer that's too good not to share. I don't have any specific BLs in mind, but if a restriction like "only those that finished or will finish airing this year" or "not this year" is interesting or productive, have at it. Thanks!
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
I'm just gonna keep talking about La Pluie. I saw multiple reactions calling most of episode 8 boring. I am sorry, but if you came to the show interrogating the concept of soulmates and were bored because the two romantic leads said that they choose each other even if they aren't destined to be together, I think you are too jaded and need to take a break from romance.
Sincerely, it baffles me to see people engaging with genre stories and seemingly getting mad that a show is playing around with the conventions of the drama. The spoiler culture brain rot is destroying media literacy and it really makes me sad that it seems like we're chasing the high of something new and unexpected. This on the website of the people reading the same kind of fanfic for the umpteenth time to get their fix.
I just don't get going into romance and being mad that they're doing the big romance things in a show literally about big romance.
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
I am going to interpret this to mean a character that the fandom doesn't like, and not just someone that folks don't know about. I could write about Uncle Man from 21 Days Theory, and I've already written about Framboise.
So I'm going to write about Korn from UWMA. Sometimes I will say on the podcast that "y'all don't like gay men when we're not pretty, funny, sexy, or entertaining." I have to suffer through comments about how Kao is a bad actor or that Korn sucks all the time, and both are wrong. Y'all just don't care about the stoic gay boys that try their damndest to pass and quietly suffer.
Korn is a tragic character because he was trying to be the man that he was expected to be, and then Intouch came along. He was harsh to Intouch throughout much of their romance because he knew what he was going to do. You can see the pain leaking out of that man's eyes the entire time. Intouch tried to save him. Hell, they brought Perth Tanapon to cry about their deaths to hammer home how sad the whole thing was.
It just makes me really sad sometimes around here that we're only ever going to get worked up about the loud and flamboyant characters, or the especially pretty and charming ones.
I am here for characters like Korn (UWMA), Mamoru (Kabe Koji), Shiro (WDYEY), Mitsuru (EY), Teh (IPYTM), Cairo (Gameboys), Shin (3WBF), Inthawut (180DLPTU), and many more.
18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...
Currently, I feel some kinda way about how people keep looking for reasons to hate Patts in La Pluie, as if his ideal partner signalling is somehow to be mistrusted. It's just a bit sad for me that folks seem determined to hate the lead in this.
I don't really ever get second lead syndrome that often, so everyone on the Lomfon-Tai train confuses me. Lomfon is RUDE, and I do not fuck with that boy.
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
Not a specific complaint, but I've said many times around here that I really hate when folks abuse the tools of criticism to say that they didn't like something. Y'all really don't need to pathologize why you don't like something and reach for flaws in the storytelling or production to justify why you don't like something.
We are a niche fandom. We are not seeing the huge sums of money poured into our productions that huge setpieces are going to get. Y'all need to show a little fucking grace to the creators bringing these things to us.
🔥 choose violence ask game 🔥

*spoiler alert 🚨 | I told sunset about you*
I just finished rewatching ITSAY, and probably during the very first episode all I could think was “why did I ever root for Teh?” Seriously though, I had completely forgotten about the fact that he was originally pursuing Tarn. So when I remembered everything that goes down, I started getting more and more frustrated. Teh was a jerk that didn’t deserve Tarn or Ohaew. Tarn was hesitant to let herself fully have feelings for Teh, but she decided to give love a chance. Only for him to start becoming more and more distant, constantly bailing on their plans, even though he’s the one that initiated them. Like imagine if your friend announced that they were gonna start pursuing you romantically, and did so for 2 years, causing you to develop romantic feelings for them, only to reject you because they have feelings for someone else. And often times in bls, they have a girl as the third wheel and either make her character desperate, annoying, or lowkey homophobic, so that the audience will hate her and root for the main couple. But Tarn was nothing but a sweetheart and amazing friend that didn’t deserve to get her heart broken. She even went to check up on Teh after everything with down, because she still considered them friends and was worried about him. Then with Ohaew, he had a crush on literally the sweetest and most wholesome guy the writers could have possibly written, Bas. Bas is someone who was always by Ohaew’s side, constantly checking up on him whenever he was sad. Bas was never jealous or possessive over Ohaew (unlike Teh) and only ever wanted him to be happy, even if it was with someone else. From the time Ohaew and Teh became friends again, he was constantly putting Teh’s feelings before his own because he cared about him. Teh had to constantly be pacified, because he didn’t have a proper grasp over his own feelings/emotions, and only ever did what he wanted to even when it was selfish. And by his overall behavior towards Tarn and Ohaew, it was pretty much foreshadowed that Teh would be a cheater (those who have seen IPYTM will know). Overall I don’t think the chemistry and love they have is at all enough for me to excuse what Teh did.

I recently watched itsay and ipytm and I can't get them out of my head. When I finished itsay I was so happy and in love with the story and the characters, it filled my heart like no other piece of media has been able to in a long time. I loved it so much I wish I could erase my memory and experience it again for the first time. Now it holds a special place in my heart.
I had a feeling ipytm would be different, so I looked up spoilers and in fact every comment on it talked about how sad and angry it made them. At one point I decided I wouldn't watch part 2 because I knew what would happen and I didn't want it to happen like that, but the promise of Teh and Oh ending up together changed my mind, and also I missed them already, so a week later I started ipytm.
I loved it too but it made me so sad, it feels bittersweet, it made me love Oh so much more but I now feel resentment towards Teh and cannot forgive what he did.
I am so upset by the thought that if Jai had said yes to Teh they would have been together, and it's been bothering me since I finished the show. The only thing that gave me a bit of reassurance was when Teh told Oh he wasn't thinking about how much it would hurt him, and that breaking up with him was never on his mind. I took it like he was planning on having a relationship with Jai but never tell Oh about it, be with both of them at the same time. The last episode left me feeling so sad even though they ended up together, I wish we had seen more of Teh growing and rekindling his friendship with Oh and eventually him trying to win Oh back but alas, time was limited I guess.
I want answers about Teh's feelings for Jai and how things would have gone down if they had been reciprocated, does anyone know if there's commentary by the writers or director on this? Or even if Billkin has commented on it? Please let me know
I love itsay, I don't even have words to describe it rn. I'm glad I found PP and Billkin through it bc they're amazing artists and seem to be great people I wish them all the success

Hi! Watched ITSAY and LOVED IT!!! everything about the story and the technical aspects of it were out of this world (and the BL world that we're used to) but I haven't watched S2. When promo stuff came out ppl started saying that it was a sad ending that involved cheating and i just can't handle a sad ending for that couple specifically so, please, I want you to give me spoilers of what happens but w/out names, ex: X cheats on Y and they break up or Y dies at the end after a fight, etc. thanks!
hi!!! YESSSSSSS, I KNEW YOU WOULD! as for s2, since you probably aren't aware of it: I HATE IT. I DESPISE IT WITH MY WHOLE BEING. IT ALMOST RUINED ITSAY FOR ME. so since you can't handle a sad ending, you're not gonna like this one even though it's a happy ending. I tell everyone I can NOT to watch ipytm like I wish I had done bc your life will only be better without it. as for the spoilers: a cheats on b & becomes a shit boyfriend in every aspect, the show is dreadful & loses a lot of what made it so great in the first place, and the happy ending literally is so forced & infuriating. save yourself the heartbreak anon <3

I think I’ll spend the night with you. What? Don’t you have a morning class? It’s alright. I’ll just wake up earlier. Well, someone’s been sleeping alone three nights in a row… I’m afraid he’ll be dead of loneliness.

i just read this tweet saying that while they were broken up oh-aew was probably single because he wasn't sure about dedicating himself to someone else like that, and kept wondering if he could see himself loving anyone else as much as he loved teh. so he ended up loving himself and deciding that loving teh from a safe distance was something he could be happy with.
and that when oh-aew agreed to get back together with teh, it wasn't so much him giving teh another chance, but more like him giving himself the chance to love again 😭😭😭

Teh… TEH.
Listen, as someone with anxiety, I know very well what it’s like to be so afraid of getting hurt, so afraid of being disappointed, so afraid of vulnerability that you inflict the pain on yourself instead. You close yourself off to the people you love, and you push them away when you need them most.
You expect them to break your heart, slowly, through small disappointments, but instead you never give them that chance. You never give them the chance to hurt you.
You cause it yourself, and that hurts just as much.
We’re watching Teh do exactly that, hurt himself so that Oh-Aew can’t hurt him. He’s so fearful of change, because he believes change causes pain. And he watches this man he fell in love with evolve and grow, as a human should and does, and he expects the feelings to fade.
And are we surprised? Not only has he feared changed with the other people in his life but he’s done this with Oh-Aew before. When they were children and Oh-Aew started acting. Sure, maybe it was some jealousy, but I think what really scared Teh was knowing things would change between them.
So he pushed Oh-Aew away and caused them both pain. For years. He did it then, and he’s doing it now.
Oh-Aew is trying. You can see it. He so badly wants Teh to see him, to understand him, to love him, through all of the changes. Oh-Aew is finding himself and experimenting. He’s challenging the ideas he had for himself, and he’s happier because of it. He glows.
And sure, maybe some of it won’t stick. Maybe the red hair won’t last, or the fashion will be different one day, or he’ll sell the car. Perhaps one day he’ll find a new passion that isn’t advertising… perhaps he’ll thrive there instead.
Teh loves the idea of who Oh-Aew was, not who he is. The ever evolving human being that he has before him. He’s closing his eyes for fear that what he sees is something he won’t like, and he’s missing the beautiful man that Oh-Aew is becoming. He’s wasting this journey they could be taking together because he’s too afraid they’ll take different paths.
It’s tragic, really, how Teh unknowingly caused their distance. And don’t get me wrong. It isn’t all Teh’s fault that they have found themselves in a fog. Physical distance and differing schedules made their relationship harder to maintain, a challenge they hadn’t faced before. And the communication… well, that hasn’t been great from either end, honestly.
But here we see Oh-Aew wanting to make the effort. Maybe not always perfectly. Sometimes he falls asleep during the plays or can’t keep up, but he wants to be there. He wants to create the poster and he wants Teh to sleep beside him in bed.
Yet Teh’s fear of vulnerability is blinding him from seeing how much Oh-Aew does care.
The end of episode 3 hurt, despite the build up and knowing something like that was coming.
The way I see it, Teh never stopped yearning for intimacy; he wants those feelings of closeness with someone. But he convinced himself he couldn’t feel that with Oh-Aew, or at least not with Oh-Aew the way he is today.
Now, I do believe that you can develop feelings for another person while you’re in a monogamous relationship. I don’t think Teh’s sudden feelings for Jai are necessarily fake. But I do think an element of them is his misplaced longing for that intimacy, and he didn’t catch himself as those feelings for Jai developed.
If Teh truly believed he liked Jai and no longer liked Oh-Aew, I’d say he should have broken up with Oh-Aew and pursued his new feelings. Maybe not the popular answer, but if he genuinely believed his relationship was irreparable, or he felt his feelings for Jai were too strong and too real to deny, I’d want him to follow that instead. Prolonging the inevitable would only hurt Oh-Aew, and himself, more.
But he doesn’t believe any of that, and he knows it. And while him having sex with Oh-Aew was partially for the play, I also think he found safety and comfort in the familiarity of it. It clearly wasn’t just sex; it was tender and beautiful, and very much intimate. As he had been longing for. The morning after in bed was so gentle and loving, not because he was practicing for his acting but because he missed Oh-Aew. There was a welcomed comfort having him in his arms and close enough for morning kisses.
Which is why him putting himself in a situation where his still unchecked feelings for Jai could take over is just… so frustrating. Alcohol? An empty room? An acting exercise on intimacy?
Is it that the fear of vulnerability came back after he was vulnerable once again with Oh-Aew? After he remembered again that the Oh-Aew he had sex with that night was not the same Oh-Aew he had sex with 3 years ago on the beach? After he again refused to see the man before him as he is, not as he was?
Is it that he was riding on the high of finally feeling that intimacy again that he had been craving? Knowing he had found it with Oh-Aew but subconsciously knowing he had wanted it with Jai too?
Or is it just that he is a damn fool to have been so careless?
I know what it is like to fear vulnerability, and I understand how Teh got himself here.
But that doesn’t mean I am not disappointed in him.
Teh never should have let these feelings get too far, and now he’s broken something that he’ll probably never be able to fully repair.

Right now, I don’t care about anything. Becoming friends with you once again, I can do that. Or even becoming a rival, I can do that too. Or even you liking me or hating me, I can take it all. You can be whatever you want to be. I TOLD SUNSET ABOUT YOU (2020)
I’m right here. Have I ever left you, Teh? Even if you think of how much I’ve changed, remember this, I promise you that I will still love you all the same. That’s never going to change. I PROMISED YOU THE MOON (2021)
