MCU Fem!Tony / Natasha Stark cast choice: Winona Ryder (born in 1971)

Veronica Sawyer - Heathers (1989) / Tony Stark - Iron Man (2008)

I’m no movie/acting connoisseur and my choice may be due to old movies instead of more recent ones, but Ryder’s roles during her younger days display a certain vibe close to Tony’s. After noticing the similarities, I couldn’t unsee it. Then, I started doing a little bit (actually A LOT) of searching on internet and found some interesting things which had fortified my opinion on my casting choice.

She had played in movies with MCU actors and actresses. To name those she would have appeared with during scenes:

Chris Evans - The Iceman (2012)

Chris Hemsworth - Star Trek (2009)

Sebastian Stan - Black Swan (2010) (along with Natalie Portman)

Micheal Keaton - Beetlejuice (1988)

Leslie Bib - Sex and Death (2007)

Frank Grillo - Homefront (2013)

Tim Guinee - How to Make an American Quilt (1995), The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009)

Aaron Himelstein - The Informers (2009)

She was cast in two movies with RDJ: 1969 (1988) (playing as siblings at that!) and A Scanner Darkly (2006). To my surprise, she also had a scandal which made her unable to be hired for a few years (notably Melinda and Melinda (2003) which would have been the third time she would have co-starred with RDJ).

She is known for her petite stature and her big eyes, traits that are exaggerated in Stevetony fanfics (as far as I know).

Jo March (Little Women, 1994) and Corky (Night on Earth, 1991), because they are played by Ryder, are beautiful women. The former got the attention of a suitor and the latter the prospect of being a movie star, but both reject their respective offer, because it’s not what they desire. Jo March wants to write for a living and Corky to be a mechanic (see a similarity? 😏).

The titular character of Edward Scissorhands (1990), whose love interest, Kim Boggs, is played by Ryder, is like Tony: had a good fatherly figure till said person’s death, leaving him alone for years; caring and capable of creating beautiful things, but their hands can also hurt and that’s the reason people see them as dangerous. Kim, after sharing a farewell kiss with Edward, lives long enough to grow old and have a granddaughter to whom she tells a story about him. Doesn’t it have Peggy vibes?

Ryder had experience in sci-fi movies (Alien Ressurection, A Scanner Darkly) and playing characters with mental issues (Girl, Interrupted, Black Swan, Stranger Things).

Her Joyce Byers from Stranger Things (2016-) is a single mother determined to find and save her missing son through any mean necessary even if it makes her appear crazy. She’s also a mother figure for another child in the show. For fans who love Irondad, here’s Ironmom.

There’s also the irony of playing a futurist when some of her characters were from period dramas (e.g.: Bram Stocker’s Dracula, Little Women, The Crucible)

Tony raises an eyebrow. “I told you,” he says, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world, “Morgan likes him, and he likes Morgan. Plus, we bonded. In space.”

“Okay!” Rhodes throws up his hands in resignation. “Okay. I give up. Whatever. Adopt Spider-Man. Jesus Christ."

Peter survives the Snap only to find he's alone once again, and Tony Stark steps off the Benatar to find James Rhodes holding his month-old daughter with Pepper nowhere in sight. At first it's an arrangement of convenience and mutual grief. Someday, God willing, it might become a family.

Winner Spotlight - happyaspie

We’ve reached out to the 2021 Winners that are on Tumblr, and a good few have agreed to an interview about their creations and wins. We’re starting with the fabulous @yes-i-am-happyaspie who won the Best Multi-Chapter Story Award with their story A Parent Apparent.

Summary: In which the author indulges herself in some shameless Irondad/Spiderson with fluff, angst and everything in between because she needs more of that in her life.

OR... Just another one of those, oh so overdone, fanfics where Tony and Peter's relationship grows into more of a father/son relationship after an accident involving Aunt May (who lives)

Here’s what @yes-i-am-happyaspie had to say...

I began writing A parent Apparent on March 5th 2019 and completed it on October 23rd 2020. That’s me having spent over a year cultivating a completely and totally self-indulgent fanon world of my own. When I started it, it was a project to occupy my time. I didn’t think anyone would read it because I wasn’t really that good at writing. But as the story grew and evolved, so did I. My ability to describe people, emotions and environments improved immensely. My writing mechanics, word usage and sentence structure also improved. The process was slow and I’m not sure how noticeable it is for anyone reading it straight through. However, if you were to only read the first chapter and the last, you might think that it was written by two different people. A Parent Apparent was my growth fic and even though I don’t think it’s my best work by any stretch of the imagination, I am grateful for it. I learned a lot from writing it.

How did you get into Irondad?

I have always loved Marvel, as a whole and I enjoyed the fun dynamic between Peter Parker and Tony Stark. Though it wasn’t until I really got into the concept of fanfiction, in general, that I started to fall in love with Irondad. Once I found it, somewhere around 2016, I was reading non-stop for days, just absorbing as much of it as I could.

What’s your favorite Irondad scene?

In the movies or in fanfiction? I’m going to go with fanfiction because I feel that, canonically, we weren't really given a lot of, on screen, relationship development. My favorite things to read are, Peter and Tony just hanging out and being all domestic. Eating dinner, bantering, having late night conversation or just- sitting on the couch watching television. I love the idea that they could bond and have a ‘found family’ kind of dynamic. Especially when May, Pepper and/or the other Avengers are also involved, making them one big extended family.

When did you start writing and what made you sit down and write that first story?

I was well into my thirties before I really got into reading fanfiction, and as I do with so many things, once I found it and liked it, I dove right in. I spent years reading so much fanfiction by other authors that I started daydreaming about my own scenarios. Then one day, I just woke up and decided that I would try to write something of my own, something tailored to all of the things I enjoyed the most about Irondad and Spiderson.

What do you like about writing most?

I like being able to sit down and fall into my own little world for a while.

Which of your stories is your favorite and why?

This is tough because I’ve written so many! But I think my favorites are probably Better Than You Know and Distracted by a Dime but Kindergarten Firsts and What Was Missing Was You are also ones I love to occasionally go back and read.

What’s your favorite trope to write?

I thoroughly enjoy writing anything hurt/comfort related. So, sickfics, nightmares and insomnia… those are a lot of fun for me. But I also enjoy reading/writing about May and Tony co-parenting Peter, Peter chilling/sulking on the ceiling and all that ooey-gooey fluffy kind of stuff.

What inspired the story, A Parent Apparent?

I’m not sure anything in particular inspired it. Or maybe too many things inspired it. I just really wanted to try my hand at writing every single thing I loved about Irondad based on everything I had read. I went into it knowing I was my target audience and just had fun with it.

Can you tell us a little about the experience of writing it — did anything stand out or was there a particular person that helped more than others?

I remember being surprised by how many people enjoyed it. The various comments I would receive on each chapter made me feel good and encouraged me to keep doing what I was doing. There were certain people who commented on every single chapter without fail. All 154 of them. I would post a chapter and then sit back and wait for those particular names to show up. It was awesome. Actually, I still occasionally get comments from people who are starting to read it or starting to read it all over again and that’s always gratifying. It’s nice to know that something I put so much work into is still getting some love.

How did you feel to be a winner of the Awards last year?

Honestly, I was very surprised. While I am happy I wrote A Parent Apparent, I don’t feel like it’s my best work. So, I was sort of shocked that it won. Especially since so many other super amazing fics had been nominated in that category! I am extremely grateful for all of the love and support.

Hi! I have a random question. We know that Tony and Peter spent more time with each other between Homecoming and IW and we can guess that they saw each other pretty frequently during that time (like lab days etc.), but how do you think in canon they got to that point to begin with? Do you think Tony approached him with an internship? Mentoring for Spider-Man? I guess I’m just wondering what the transition from mentor-mentee to father-son looked like at the beginning (and this definitely isn’t for a theoretical tv series I’m brainstorming lol). I’m curious what your thoughts are! Thank you!

One of the things I love about irondad? Tony’s interest in Peter is not forced. This is something Tony wants to do.

Tony sought Peter out. He kept eyes on him since the beginning. He’s been monitoring the kid all the time. He has that spark of interest. He was excited to meet him:

And since then he left little subtle hints that he wanted to be part of Peter’s life but gradually, at his own pace; like calling Peter to congratulate him for saving his friends instead of putting Happy between them, giving his compliments, and admitting he wants to try a different approach than Howard’s (in this part basically admitting he wants to be Peter’s father-figure), etc.

This end was the perfect setting for a tv series, to be honest, especially because right after this May discovered his identity lmao.

Let me use symbolism to explain how this sets things up:

One of them is opening a door of possibilities (Tony; getting married, settling down by living a less intrepid life, mentoring a kid, setting boundaries for himself, etc) and the other one is closing the door of fixation (Peter; withdrawing from growing up too fast, settling down by doing the things he can and helping the people he should, discovering more about his journey as a hero, letting someone else guide him, etc).

So Tony probably made the internship real since where else would Peter learn how to manage Tony’s tech the way he did in FFH?

Where else would peter upgrade the web-shooters (made by Stark tech)? The directors confirmed it was Peter the one who did the upgrade and that Peter added a Stark appeal to them. He can’t do that at his school because Tony’s tech is on another level, he probably used one of Tony’s labs. The new ones in IW are capable of self-assembling onto Peter's wrist and the trigger for activating the firing mechanism is able to retract into the main body of the Web-Shooters, allowing Peter to wear them with his normal clothes. He definitely used Tony’s lab for this:

I know we all love to imagine that the picture was taken because Flash didn’t believe Peter and consequently Tony decided to provide peter evidence but I don’t think so lmao This happened because Peter actually began a real internship with Tony:

Some people think this was taken in CW but that doesn’t make any sense. Sure, Tony could’ve done that to give May some evidence but if May believed Tony from the very beginning that he was offering an internship to Peter without asking for proof, then why would she question it? This was taken after Homecoming.

Apart from the fact that, as I’ve said before, WEB is something canon; the organization is going to be incorporated into upcoming comics and movies confirmed by Disney executives. So basically there’s more proof, Tony made an entire project and organization inspired by Spider-Man and Peter. He has that interest in him. Also, he left EDITH for Peter. Basically, a control remote for his bank accounts, company, and legacy, would he leave that to a kid he didn’t mentor or he merely got to know?

So they probably started (for your idea/project) by Tony using an excuse (in this case, something like WEB or some other project) to get to know Peter better. Then started forming the friendship by working together. And then the rest is history lmao

My Top 10 Ships of 2020

It's been a weird year but I've seen other people doing this. Plus this year I've been way more into gen fics (love a bit of found family especially in clone wars and marvel) than anything shippy. So I genuinely don't know what imma put on here aside from two ships for sure. Sorry this post is super long idk how to do the below the cut thing and I've had this app for 5 years...

10) Viktor Nikiforov and Yuuri Katsuki - Yuri!!! On Ice

It was a real toss up between this, supercorp, kanera and wolfstar cos they're all very integral ships to my fan heart but this son because of the Yuri on Ice fandom's rebirth this year. I've never stopped shipping this, never stopped reading fanfic of them for any extended period of time, they're still my most bookmarked ship on ao3 (although I think now star wars - all media types may have overtaken them for fandom). They were one of the first things I watched where the queer ship I loved became canon and I can't wait for the film (and hopefully someday a season 2). Heck I even made my mum watch Yuri on Ice with me so I think that says it all.

9) Edelgard Von Hresvelg and female Byleth - Fire Emblem: Three Houses

My first fire emblem game was fates when I was like 14 (and finally gay awake lol). I was so disappointed that I had to be with a guy character because the only female option was kinda creepy and also I wouldn't get the character of kana. So when three houses came out I was so happy because finally there were beautiful incredible female characters my female byleth could romance (I'm so sorry mlm you deserved so much more than you got). I got the game as soon as it came out (had to search a lot of shops let me tell you) and started on black eagles. I was actually kinda disappointed back in 2019. I didn't like the explore the monastery bit (still find it kinda tedious) and the battle mechanics weren't quite the same as fates (no pairing up?! Aka my main battle technique for protecting the weaker units). So I got like 20 hours in and put it down. Came back to it in lockdown and finally finished it! I'm so proud of myself I virtually never finish games. And I fully fell in love with the useless lesbian edelgard in the process. When I started back playing in 2020 I was like eh I wish I'd picked a different character to romance (like shes an emperor that's morally very shady) but then the romance stuff started with edelgard and I fell the heck in love.

8) Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter (and Topanga Lawrence) - Boy Meets World

Disney+ was released in the UK this year and I finally got the opportunity to watch boy meets world in its best quality (aka not on YouTube). I watched it back when I was like 12 or 13 and it's such a nostalgic show for me. Watching it again I still absolutely adore it (and my bi ass was low-key crushing on Shawn especially in chick like me - I'm 18 btw and I got so scared for a sec but rider strong was 18 when chick like me came out so it's fine woah). And of course now I see the possibilities of the beautiful Cory and Shawn relationship like they were so bromance it was basically romance and throw in topanga it's the perfect ot3 (but I'm also fine with just Cory and Shawn or just Cory and Topanga). Read some good fanfic for them this year. My favourite was one about Shawn stealing makeup and stuff and exploring gender (need more fics like this I'm biiii).

7) Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes - Marvel Cinematic Universe

I rewatched all the MCU films this year too. And got really into Peter parker whump and irondad. Plus my eternal obsession with identity and relationship reveals of course led me from Spiderman identity reveals (and found family cuteness) to stucky coming out. Especially when it involves the internet and social media. Not my favourite ship but it's been significant to my year due to the sheer amount of marvel stuff I've read.

6) Satine Kryze and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars

I rewatched clone wars in prep for season 7 and wow Satine's death was sad and sudden. She first appeared in S2 E13 I think and just the sheer sexual tension of their bickering. "The sarcasm of a soldier. The delusion of a dreamer." Just ugnnhhh my bi ass can't take much more of this. And Anakin just sipping his wine in the background grinning. And I fully believe korkie is a Kenobi.

5) Commander Cody and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars

I am very much an Obi wan multishipper. I don't really have a favourite but I fully believe he was with satine and Quinlan in his life. I don't think be would've actually done anything with Cody because of the whole superior officer thing. And this probably isn't even my favourite Obi wan ship - that honour probably goes to quinobi or obitine. However the most popular ships in the fandom are codywan, quiobi and obikin. No offence to anyone who ships these they're just personally not to my taste, but I can't stand quiobi, and obikin I find only slightly more tolerable and I think that's just because there's so much obikin content so if I like the concept of a fic that happens to be obikin I'll read it. I'm just not a fan of the mentor/student relationships. So I generally favoured the codywan fics when there was shipping involved meaning I read a lot of them this year. Needed that nice fix it content post season 7.

4) Zuko and Katara - Avatar: the Last Airbender

Again I am a multishipper I have nothing against zukka it's cute. But I'm a zutara shipper first and foremost because when I first watched avatar I was like 13 and denying my gayness and gayness in general so I shipped the straight things and the straight things only. Most of these ships I stopped shipping - dramione, spuffy, some my little pony ones which we don't talk about. Zutara stayed. (I have nothing against any of the things I used to ship I just stopped shipping them so much/shipped new things more). I've continuously shipped zutara since I first watched avatar even if I didn't necessarily spend that much time on it it has always been here as one of my favourite ships. It has such good fanfic I swear including my favourite ever fanfic from any fandom - love thy enemy. Plus like the black games (reread this for the millionth time this year), a delicate subterfuge (which I read for the first time this year and damn it's so good) and so many more. With the avatar resurgence this year I haven't actually rewatched avatar aside from my normal random episode every now and then when I feel like it. But there's been a lot of avatar on my dash from people I follow getting into it and people I followed for avatar returning so naturally I returned to the fandom and read quite a lot of fanfic. I also read just a lot of avatar gen fics which were great at the whole found family thing I've been so obsessed with this year.

3) Catra and Adora - She Ra and the Princesses of Power

Catradora is canon! They kissed! What more is there to say. Arguably they should've been top but I never shipped them that much since I was always very much a multishipper when it came to she ra so yes I was very happy it became canon because we actually won for once but also I've never read much fanfic for them etc. But they are very much a dynamic I love and watching she ra all again in prep for season 5 I really enjoyed the build up of their relationship. The other two only go above because Buffy is my favourite show ever and damn there's some good fuffy fanfic and Aphra and Tolvan is both fresh in my mind and star wars owns me. Would love some catradora fic recs btw if anyone has them tho.

2) Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I didn't realise it was last year that I got super into them but according to my ao3 bookmarks it was lol. 2020 I swear it's lasted an eternity. I got into them about a month before lockdown (which feels like another lifetime). I've loved Buffy since I first watched it when I was 13. It's arguably still my favourite TV show. I've been through a lot of ships for Buffy - bangel to spuffy and now fuffy. I still think angel and her were a beautiful ship back in season 2 and especially in the angel episode I will remember you. But faith and Buffy had so much chemistry in season 3 - she would've been a fresh start for Buffy and the amount of fix it fics I read I swear. My favourite has to be one where they met in LA during Anne and how that changed everything feat Buffy's internal homophobia.

1) Cheili Lona Aphra and Magna Tolvan - Star Wars

I read Darth Vader (2015) and Doctor Aphra (2016) for the first time at the end of 2020 (got a comic subscription which has served me very well already I've nearly finished the star wars canon comics). Just to see canon queer ladies in star wars was so magical for me as a queer lady. I didn't think star wars would be so overt yet as to have a queer kiss in canon (even if it's in the comics) and especially not with the main character of arguably their main comic series. Now we just gotta hope that we'll get it in live action someday soon. They weren't the ship I consumed the most content of in 2020 but they were the highlight of my 2020 because star wars did that and I finally found out about it

Honourable mentions: Vivian and Elle - Legally Blonde, Candace and Vanessa - Phineas and Ferb, Stevie and Alex - Wizards of Waverly Place, Xander and Spike - Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I actually don't ship this but damn some authors are good - this was the ship that made me realise I don't need to like a ship if the author is good enough to write it well), Eli Vanto and Mitth'raw'nuruodo - Star Wars (started reading the books last year but finished this year and only started with fanfic this year), Villanelle and Eve - Killing Eve, Kanan and Hera - Star Wars, Barriss and Ahsoka - Star Wars, Remus and Sirius - Harry Potter, Kara and Lena - Supergirl (let's hope this becomes canon next year!) (Those last four are ones I've shipped forever some of my og ships but nothing particularly big has happened for me this year with them so)

I got Disney+ this year so rewatched a fair few things from my youth and though hey my obsession with that character may have been a little gay.

Hiya! Happy FFWF!

I am indeed still working on my BioDad fic. I am about 90K written but I won't lie, I’m struggling a bit. I think a lot of it has to do with wanting it to be good enough- it doesn't feel like it has the same flow like I had with A Peter Parker Problem. I mean, I think what I have is ok but I want it to be as better (- sorry couldn't resist a Homecoming pun..!). So I prob need to get out of my own head about it. Anyway, that really isn't what you asked me, is it?! Can you have another sneak peek? Yes you can! Ok, you know how long winded I am so it’s more of a half a chapter rather than a snippet - oh well!

“Peter, Boss would like to see you in his workshop.” FRIDAY’s voice filtered down from above.

Peter looked up towards where it had emanated from, worrying his lips between his teeth.

Why did Mr Stark want him to go down there?

Peter had retreated back to his room after they had said their goodbyes to Harley. The weekend had turned out much better than he had expected. He’d actually enjoyed himself and not felt like he was taking up space in the Penthouse. They’d tinkered about with tech and watched movies. Mr Stark was so much more relaxed in the workshop. He couldn’t deny that it’d been fascinating to see the man in his element. He’d left the two teenagers to do their own thing at one point, but Peter’s eyes had been drawn to the man as he worked: watching him work with holographic schematics with singular focus.

Peter put down his pen on top of the homework packet that he was working on and headed towards the workshop.

Sweat started to pool under his armpits as the doors to the room swished open as soon as he was in front of them; no need to knock or announce his arrival.

He tentatively followed the sound of metal on metal and as he turned the corner, he could see Mr Stark was working a sheet of a thin alloy into – well he wasn’t sure what, but something else. There was a bead of sweat running down the side of his face, and his hands were oily.

The banging stopped for a moment, and Peter cleared his throat.

Mr Stark twisted towards the noise, pulling his safety visor up when he saw who it was and sending Peter a warm smile.

“You, um, wanted to see me, sir?”

Tony took the visor off completely now and headed towards him, picking up and rag and wiping his hands as he did.

“Yeah kid, I did. It’s about borrowing the tools.”

Peter straightened up. Shit, he was in trouble. He looked at the floor and put his hands in his pockets.

“I’m sorry. FRIDAY said you wouldn’t mind, but I should have asked you directly. It won’t happen again, sir.”

“Oh no, that’s not what I meant…” Mr Stark’s face crumpled. “My tools are your tools. It’s just, I figured it’s safer if you use them in here. So, I set you up with your own workstation in here, you know, so you can have a proper area to create.”

Peter stared at him. He’d never had his own place before. A million possibilities went through his mind.

“It’s just over here…”

He followed Mr Stark a few steps to where there was indeed a cleared off desk.

“I figured you might like a holo projector too.”

Peter’s eyes widened as Mr Stark opened it up.

“I set you up your own server so you can save your work easily. You can talk to FRIDAY just as you’ve seen me do and she’ll help with any calculations or, well, anything you require.”

Peter continued gaping, as Tony jotted something into the holo and a rotating gauntlet came into view. “I took the liberty of putting this on here for you to practice getting used to working with the system.”

Peter stepped forward straight away. This was the coolest thing ever. He pushed his fingers forward and grabbed a piece of the floating gauntlet in his hands, pulling it apart in a motion that he’d seen Mr Stark doing yesterday. The image separated out into the component parts. He moved the pieces around with no more than a flick of his wrist. God, the whole system was so intuitive, it was incredible.

Peter spent a few moments engrossed before he realised that Mr Stark was standing there watching him.

“Oh, thank you, this is awesome. Th-thanks.”

He saw Mr Stark moving slowly, no doubt on purpose, to place his hand on his shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. It felt warm and secure. It had been a while since he’d felt such a gentle, warm gesture from an adult. He turned his attention back to the hologram; trying to keep his cheeks from burning but knowing he probably wouldn’t succeed.

Mr Stark’s hand retreated and he did too.

“Um, Mr Stark?”

The man turned around with a hopeful expression.

“I, uh, don’t suppose you have time to show me how it all works.” Peter chewed the inside of his mouth. He didn’t need help, not really.

Mr Stark let out the biggest smile that Peter had seen since he arrived, and he came and stood next to him.

“Yeah, sure bud. All the time in the world.”

Tony

Tony’s heart had taken a while to calm down. He’d been in a lot of high pressure situations in his lifetime. Literal life and death situations; Afghanistan, the wormhole and yet here his heart had been hammering just as much as it had then. At least that is what it felt like to him. Hell, the kid could probably hear it from where he was stood next to him.

He was stood shoulder to shoulder with his son. Just that thought alone was enough to make his stomach flip – though this time in a good way. His heart rate gradually began to decline, and he tried really hard to keep the ridiculous smile off of his face.

Being so close to him, hearing him talk. And God, he was so fucking smart. He seemed to want to hide it, but then he’d start to get excited, and Tony could see the inquisitiveness and joy in him. It was there, had been all along, there just hadn’t been the chance to push it out from behind the sheer fear the kid must be feeling about this whole new situation, this whole new identity that he had.

Tony knew that they should have talked about it all directly by now. But the kid was so on edge, he didn’t want to do anything to make it worse.

Social Services had reminded him that one of the major conditions of their breaking protocol was Tony’s agreement that Peter would attend Counselling sessions – both individual and family sessions. They were set up to start next week – it was just down to Tony to tell him. Tony looked over at him, as Peter studied some calculations, his dark eyes intent on the numbers in front of him, knocking a pencil against his lips as he did. Not today.

This whole weekend had been incredible – he’d be sure to send Harley a fat gift for his part in that. He’d made it all so effortless. So Keener would be getting a gift and an extra bump in his college fund too. But if the weekend had been good, then this afternoon had been perfect.

Tony hadn’t been too sure how the offering of the worktable would go down. It could quite possibly have been met with the same polite distance Peter had shown him since he got here. He was sure he was being totally transparent. Having the worktable in here meant spending time with him. He wasn’t sure that was what Peter wanted. But then, he’d just been about to leave him to it, not wanting to hang around applying pressure and Peter had reached out to him. Peter didn’t need guidance on the system – not really, that much was obvious in the first five minutes - so Tony could only surmise that Peter wanted to spend time with him. He’d asked about Tony’s old projects and tentatively asked Tony to show him them. Which was how they came to be elbow deep in giving DUM-E a proper tune up. Self-admittedly, Peter wasn’t as up with mechanical engineering, so it gave Tony the opportunity to teach him – something that he had always imagined that he’d have the opportunity to do with his son.

Peter’s head lifted and a moment later Tony heard the tell-tale click of Pepper’s heels.

“Tony!” Pepper’s voice called. And oh yes, that was her pissed off tone.

“Over here,” he called back cheerfully.

“So you are here!” Her voice was starting to grow louder as she got closer. “You can’t just mute FRIDAY and include me in that; we had a meeting, what was so…”

Pepper had made it to where they were and stopped still, her eyes training from him to Peter and back again.

“Sorry Pep, forgot about that meeting.” Tony couldn’t help but smile at her with what he hoped was a ‘look at this, don’t mess this up’ vibe.

Pepper’s mouth was open but before she could say anything, Peter did.

“Sorry Miss Potts, I asked Mr Stark to show me how DUM-E worked…” Peter seemed to hunch in on himself.

“That’s no problem. Tony appointed me as CEO specifically so he didn’t have to deal with meetings, if I remember correctly,” Pepper said, sending him a warm smile.

“That was one reason.”

“I suppose it is pointless of me to ask if either of you have stopped to eat whilst you have been down here?”

Tony looked at Peter, who looked back.

“Erm…”

Pepper rolled her eyes. “Tony, it’s 8pm and he hasn’t eaten!”

“Oh, sorry kid…”

“I didn’t even notice the time, I was so focussed,” Peter said sheepishly.

“Oh no, now there are two of you.” Pepper put a hand to her forehead. “I’ll go and order something in whilst you finish up and wash up. Pizza ok, Peter?”

“Yes, Miss Potts. Thank you.”

With that she turned on her heel and was off.

Tony looked to Peter who looked a little chastised.

“You did good, kid. If you hadn’t been here, she’d have had my head.” Tony grinned and Peter seemed to push a little smile out. “Shall we get cleaned up?”

Peter looked down at the robot in front of them as he twisted his hands together. “We are about ready to close him up, right? I don’t like to leave him all hanging out. Can we just finish it off, sir?”

Tony shifted his weight back.

“How about we make a deal? You stop calling me ‘sir’, and we can finish DUM-E off.”

Peter looked up at him, a look of uncertainty in his face. Was it so hard to not call your own father ‘sir’? Had his parents or uncle been so formal? Or was it something else? The words emotional distance floated into his mind – huh- maybe he had paid some attention during his past therapy sessions.

“Ok,” he said softly.

“Great,” Tony gently knocked his shoulder into Peter’s without thinking too much about it and was rewarded with a smile. “Let’s get this guy back on the road.”

Peter remembers when they used to cuddle or simply curl up together and listen to each other’s heartbeats. They used to be the perfect couple. Alex would bring him milkshakes when he had a bad day, he always came to Peter’s science fairs and he even let the boy sleep over at his house whenever May had a night shift at the hospital (which was more often than not at this point due to a single paycheck never being enough to support their small family). But slowly, Alex stopped doing those thing. It started with him forgetting to bring Peter milkshakes when his eyes were red rimmed or anxiety attacks shook through his bed like a hurricane, but quickly morphed into daily insults and verbal abuse and then backhands to the face when he was angry or hands grabbing him too hard and finally the violent sex he was now so used to. Sometimes he missed how their relationship used to be. But the good times were a thing of the past and there was no use mourning what he no longer had.

Peter is stuck in a highly abusive situation and Tony starts uncovering the truth in order to save the spiraling teenager.

But when he discovers tickets to Next to Normal; a rock musical about mental illness, grief, the misuse and abuse of drugs, and parents recovering after the death of their child; that he and Peter had bought, he is forced to face his worst fears all over, and learn that, despite everything he’s been through, there may still be light.

It starts as a simple enough gag: see how long he can manage to keep sneaking into Avengers Tower with his friends before Tony Stark notices. But when an unexpected gaggle of men wearing identical ugly navy blue suits and driving around in equally hideous blue cars join the mix, controlled by a guy with horrific fashion sense and the strength of twenty pumas, Peter has to suit up and do what he does best: superhero the hell out of it.

And if it ends up being the hardest, scariest, most unplanned thing he’s ever had to do? Well then that’s no one’s business but his. (And Tony’s. Definitely also Tony’s.)

It’s a kid. A teenager, by the looks of him, no more than 15 or 16, with curling brown hair plastered over his forehead and eyes. He lays there prone on his side, covered in cuts- some shallow, some deep, all of them most likely caused by the barbs on the fishnet. Tony can just make out blood matted on the back of his head- he probably hit it on the side of the boat and got himself knocked out. Clinging to his torso is a soaked, faded t-shirt and below that…

…below that, his lower body is a tail. A full-on fish tail.
