One Wednesday at the Penthouse, while waiting for Tony..
Rhodey (is sipping coffee from behind the counter when he sees the kid): Hey Pete! Nice to see you. How was your day?
Peter: Oh hi Mr. Rhodes! You won't believe what happened, sir. See, Flash was there and about to trip me but for some reason, his friend stopped him. The other bullies backtracked too. I don't know why but they seem to have been trying to be better. It's really nice not to be pushed into lockers for once.
Rhodey (blinks): Huh.
Pete (walks to the fridge, back turned to the elder avenger): How was your day, sir?
Rhodey's eyes widened at the sight. His face goes through a range of emotions before it settles to amused understanding.
Rhodey: I take it Tones knows about the bullying?
Peter: Oh, er, yeah. He wanted to talk to my principal about it, but I begged him not to. I'm old enough. I can take it. Better me than others, you know? And besides, I'm Spider-Man, sir. Better they hit me who heals fast than others who aren't so lucky.
Rhodey: U-huh. If I know my best friend, he already told you that's shit and you shouldn't have to go through that, superpowers or not.
Peter: Ye-yeah.
Rhodey (sighs): And knowing your kind of genius self sacrificing dumbassery, I'm sure you didn't listen.
Peter: (smiles sheepishly)
Rhodey (nods, arms crossed): Sooo. Curious about that jacket. Tony gave it to you?
Peter (suddenly shy and embarrassed): Oh-uhm, yeah. See, we were working on Dum-E's upgrades last night, so Mr. Stark asked May if I could just stay the night. He lent me this since it was raining this morning, and I didn't have a spare. Why, Mr. Rhodes, do I look weird?
Rhodey (grins, tapping the kid's shoulder): Nope. You look cool, kid. Very Stark.
And so he leads the kid to the sofa, Friday turning the channel to the kid's favorite show without prompting. Rhodey listens to the kid talk. He didn't dare bring attention to the very noticeable Stark technology that makes the jacket one of a kind, its back shifting color from red to gold and revealing a message in bold font.
Rhodey coughs to hide a chuckle at his best friend's antics.
As if the distinct SI mark isn't enough, there's even the well-known signature of an overprotective helicopter mentor.
"If hurt, you'll answer to Iron Man.
-T.S."

Irondad and Spiderson Time travel fic I wrote at 22:53 Be warned, it's angsty.
During the battle of endgame, Peter is the one to use the gauntlet. Time-travel hijinks ensue.
*EDIT I fixed it! Read here it on ao3*
It lands in front of him, and he just. Grabs it. hellhounds are hot on his heels, so he runs.
There's chaos and death all around him, allies being cut down like bad weeds. Everyone he knows is far away, and he can't find Tony. The gauntlet is in his hands, thrumming with cosmic energy that makes his spider sense scream. He can feel its power. It sets his skin abuzz, and he knows he can stop this.
He slips it on, and he hears someone shout in the distance. He thinks of all the lives that will be taken if Thanos wins, and he refuses to allow it. The Titan sees him, and they both stare at each other. Peter snaps his fingers, and he's immediately consumed by ridiculous amounts of untold power, coursing through his veins like fire.
His mind screams, and he almost can't resist the knee-jerk reaction to tear the gauntlet off.
He grinds his teeth hard and drags his mind back from the depths of the pain and focuses on one single thought. Destroy Thanos and his army.
The air whines and trembles, his heart roaring in his ears like a drum as the essence of the stones wraps around him with incomprehensible power and surges outwards faster than light in a deafening shriek.
He doesn't have to look around to know it worked. He can feel it in the way every atom in his body screams in unison. It feels like he's being shredded on a molecular level.
He distantly notices that the noise has stopped all around him. There's a pressure in his ears, and he vaguely understands that it's his hearing that's gone.
His knees hit the ground, and he's suddenly hit by how tired he is. He can rest now, surely? Now that Thanos is gone. He just needs to catch his breath.
Tony's mind is a whirlwind of determination as he fights with every ounce of strength he has. All his years as Ironman, as an Avenger, are dragged back to the forefront of his mind as the hellish creatures race from Thanos's ship. He sees Pepper and Rhodey handling themselves and some of the anxiety loosens. He focuses on killing every creature he can, fighting his way closer to Thanos so they can finally end this.
The kid's here somewhere, and that knowledge brings the anxiety back tenfold.
Peter hadn't aged a day. He'd almost tripped and fell flat on his face as he stumbled and pulled the kid into his arms.
In that moment, everything was right again. His kid was back, and the world was whole.
When the screeching faceless creatures, he's about to blast, turns to dust in his hand, alarm bells ring in his head. Everyone looks around as Thanos's army disappears, but Tony's eyes are darting around trying to spot a familiar figure in red and blue. The wizard's warning is ringing in his head, and he can't see Peter. Where is he. Where is my kid.
There's a circle of people standing. He spots Rogers, and when he catches the expression on the man's face, he blasts the suit’s engines at full speed. Something is wrong, and the closer he gets, the more he has a sick feeling in his gut that it's the reason why he hasn't seen Peter.
When he sees him. Tony screams. His thoughts are a constant stream of nononono, not by son, not my kid, not Peter.
He steps out of the suit and falls to his knees and Peter-
Peter smiles at him. Tony swallows down the sobs that fight to claw their way out of his throat and smiles back.
God, his face. Half of Peter's face is charred and black. The other half is drained of all color, his normally warm cheeks now a dull grey.
Tony cups the good side of Peter's face with a shaking hand swipes his thumb over his cheek. He can't imagine the pain-Tony swallows thickly and pushes it out of his mind. Peter needs him. He can break down later.
He feels the eyes of the people gathered around them, and he doesn't care if they can see the tears streaming down his face. All he can see is the burnt face of his son, staring through him with vacant eyes.
Carefully, he brushes what curls aren't burnt out of his son's eyes. A sob catches in his throat, and then Pepper is at his side. He sucks in a shaky breath, willing himself to take some of her strength and push through.
Tony tells Peter how proud he is. He tells him about his sister, how much she loves him, and that he's her favorite hero in the whole world.
As Peter wheezes for air, dying before his eyes, he says everything he wishes he'd said sooner. Tony takes Peter's unharmed hand in his and tells him how brave and beautiful and perfect he is.
When Peter opens his mouth and can only manage to let out a croak, he hushes him gently.
"Shh, don't speak. It's okay, Pete". He says, knowing it's the furthest thing possible from okay. "You did it, underoos. We won, we won, Pete-"
He can't. His voice catches, and he can feel himself shattering irreparably. Rhodey clasps his shoulder. It gives him the strength he needs.
Tony leans forward and kisses Peter's head, cradling the back of his head. He carefully pulls him against his chest and starts rocking them back and forth, unable to hold his grief back anymore. He cries in Peter's hair.
Tony almost misses the weak squeeze to his hand. He feels Peter's lips move against his neck, and he strains to hear the shaky whisper.
"Love you, dad."
His heart jumps and bleeds. How long had he dreamt of hearing those words? And now the universe gives him his wish in the most twisted way possible.
"I love you too, Pete. God, I should have said it before. I love you so much. So much, I missed you underoos. Every day." Tony says, hating himself for not having the spine to say it sooner. So much time wasted, dancing around the obvious. Tony fucking loves the kid. And he's about to lose him forever.
Peter gasps. Tony's heart stutters at the wet, agonized sound it makes.
"M-May...tell her...'m 'orry."
Tony swears he'll tell her. He smiles and tells him how proud she'll be of him.
Peter is fading like a candle in the breeze. Tony rocks them, silently begging anyone who will listen not to take him. He's too young, too bright to be taken so soon.
But he knows what Peter needs him to say. So he forces the words he never wanted to speak out of his mouth in what he hopes is an even voice.
"It's okay, Peter. You can rest, kiddo. We'll be okay. You can sleep, bambino. I'm right here. Dad-Dad's got you."
And Peter does. His eyes are so heavy, and when Tony tells him it’s okay, he lets them fall shut. He's just so tired. And Tony's heart is steady and strong enough that he can hear it through the fog in his mind. He can rest like this in his dad's arms.
The last thing he hears is Tony's cracking voice telling him he loved him before everything fades into nothing.
The battlefield is silent with the exception of Tony's hoarse pleading and crying.
"No, no! Please, please, he's just a kid. He's just a fucking kid! Open your eyes, please, Pete, look at me. Look at me, kiddo, I'm right here-I'm here I've got you, just open your eyespleaseplease-Rhodey, god, he can't be dead. He has to go home. He was supposed to come home."
The Avengers watch the tragedy unfolding before then with mournful eyes. The wakandians give their solemn respect. T'challa looks at the boy, so much like his sister and promises to take the tales of his heroic deed back to Wakanda, The Guardians following soon after, vowing to spread the word into the depths of space. Only Nebula stops to hug Tony.
She offers the closest she can to words of comfort. "He would have grown into an exceptional warrior, Stark."
Eventually, Rhodey has to pull Tony off his kid's-his nephew's body.
Tony kicks and screams and cusses, letting out the most gut-wrenching howls as he does.
The heroes still standing on the battlefield look on with somber and pitying looks.
They return to earth, and Tony goes through the motions. He receives a stream of condolences until he mutes his notifications.
He hates it. He wants to scream and break things. Because he doesn't want to win if it's like this.
Peace isn't worth losing my son.
Yet here we are.
The world learns about Peter's sacrifice. They'll never forget that Tony's son saved the world. He'll make sure of it if it's the last thing he does. Morgan will always know how brave her brother was.
The letters and flowers never stop coming, even months after the fact. Tony and Pepper read them together. Every year, the mail comes pouring in. Parents, children, all thanking Peter for his sacrifice, sharing their stories with Tony. It helps. He feels like Peter would be happy to read these, to know how many families he reunited. They put up the drawings they receive in Peter's room. The room he never got to see.
Eventually, years later the pain gets easier to carry. Tony refuses to let his grief destroy him. Peter is gone, but Morgan and Pepper need him.
They raise Morgan with the memories of her brother, Happy and Ned and MJ all stay close in touch, reuniting for holidays and Peter's birthday to reminisce.
Tony will never stop believing it should have been him, but when he sees Morgan, all grown up and off to college, he can't help but be thankful he gets to see it. And sometimes, when they're all together, alive, and well, he swears he can feel Peter with them.
~~~~~~~~~
Countless universes and timelines away, Peter opens his eyes, alive and confused, decidedly not dying in Tony's arms on Titan.
back on my fast and furious bullshit. I want a Peter AU that's like May can't afford the rent after Ben's funeral and hospital bills, so Peter wants to help out. The last thing Ben taught Peter to do was drive. Since the spider bite gives him spider sense and fast reflexes, he tries street racing. And he's really good at it, so he starts racing for money so he can help May. He goes out at night as a street racer and Spider-Man almost every night, and tells May he got a night shift job or something idk.
All I can see is:
Tony: So you got superpowers and decided to fucking street race?
Peter: I needed the money! And I was Spider-Man!
Tony: You could've become a wrestler or something, but a street racer?!
Peter: Hey, I was amazing at racing!!
Tony: Apparently not good enough to avoid the cops.
Peter: Tony I want to be you for Halloween, so I can borrow-
Tony: Peter I am not letting you borrow an iron man suit for Halloween.
Peter: No no Mr Stark, I don’t care about Ironman, I want to be you. I was gonna ask if I could borrow a suit, maybe a pair of your sunglasses…
Tony: …
Peter: Mr Stark why are you crying-
Morgan crying:
Peter: What’s wrong Maguna?
Morgan: Dad said you’re about to turn 20
Peter confused:
Morgan crying harder: Spiders can ONLY live up to 20 years
Peter: Awe, it’ll be fine. I’m not really a spider.
Peter frantically whispering to Tony: it’ll be fine, right?
Tony shrugging: I’m not a biologist.
Peter sweating profusely:
Peter: Why do we even celebrate Valentine's Day? It's just a made-up holiday to sell greeting cards and chocolates.
Pepper: Oh, come on, Peter. Don't be so cynical. Valentine's Day is a time to show your loved ones how much you care about them.
Tony: Yeah, and it's also a great excuse to get drunk and hook up with strangers.
what are two irondad tropes I love? glad you asked.
1 - Tony meeting Peter and immediately just.. *adopt*
2 - Tony being distraught on life ruining levels over losing his pseudo-son
how does this apply to one of my WIP's you might ask?
Naturally, I killed Peter.
Probaby crack Irondad Prompt:
Peter is somehow knocked down during a fight. While he's trying to catch his breath, someone removes his mask. Peter immediately panicks and webs up his own face to conceal his identity.
Bonus if the person who unmasks him is just Tony trying to check on him.
Tony rushed to him. "It's okay, you're okay-"
"DO I HAVE CANCER?!" Peter pointed Tony and the till suited-up Steve. "THE AVENGERS ARE HERE!"
Tony asks how those are related and Peter explains that the Avengers only visit the sick and dying kids.
Once upon a Tower hangout...
Happy: You were afraid before. That's why you were reckless. Always making suits and going on life threatening missions. But life's different now, huh? I gotta say. Being a stay at home dad suits you, boss.
Tony: (glares at the teasing)
Rhodey (chuckles and clicks his beer cup with his friend's mug): Just admit it, Tones. The kid made you soft.
Tony (scoffs and takes a sip of his tea. Yup, he drinks tea now, courtesy of Peter's starter pack for taking care of overworked genius mentors): Still not a dad.
Rhodey (laughs louder): Don't kid yourself. Pepper called me last Wednesday to stress when you skipped an SI meeting because you had that thing with the Dadvengers Club. What did you guys even do? I thought Clint was grounded by Laura?
Tony: Ugh, don't remind me. Now, I couldn't even kill an ant. Scott is to blame. And apparently, Clint cleaned up their whole yard with no help from the kids so Laura let him off.
Happy (draws an amused smirk): Is that what fatherhood does? Just eating healthy and attending PTAs?
Friday: Boss, sorry to interrupt. But Karen activated Spider-No-Swiping Protocol.
Tony (groans): Pete tried to override my protocols again? What's the excuse this time?
Friday: Karen reports that Spider-Man is currently hanging on a web attached to a wizard's cape. His locations show the North Pole and Karen expresses concern on his lowering temperature.
Tony (exchanges a look with his friends): Of course he is. Well, at least kid kept his promise. It's on Earth.
Happy (shakes his head, amused as he stands to dust his hands): I'll get the jet ready.
Rhodey (stands too): I'll order takeout to bring. Kid likes triple chocolate lava drink with Stik-O, right?
Tony (nods gratefully): Friday, ring Strange. Tell him spiders don't thermogulate so if he's going to babysit, he better keep my kid warm or else. And call my kid. He better answer at first ring or Spider-Man's grounded for a month.
I wrote an Irondad and Spiderson fanfic on ao3. Feel free to check if out.
There's a circle of people standing. Tony spots Rogers. He’s beaten and bloody, and when he catches the expression on the man's face, he pushes the suit’s engines at full throttle. Something is wrong, and the closer he gets, the more there’s a sick feeling in his gut that it's the reason why he hasn’t seen Peter.
When he sees him, Tony screams. His thoughts are a constant stream of nononono, not by son, not my kid, not Peter.
He steps out of the suit and falls to his knees and Peter-
Peter smiles at him. Tony swallows down the sob that fights to claw its way out of his throat and smiles back.
Or, Peter is the one to use the gauntlet in the battle of Endgame. Time-travel hijinks ensue
Tony: Pete, if you could be any animal, other than a spider, which would you choose?
Peter without hesitation: A Jellyfish Turritopsis Dohrnii.
Tony: That’s oddly specific.
Peter: They are the only known biologically immortal animal. Meaning if we were all Jellyfish Turritopsis Dohrnii we could just vibe in the ocean together.
Tony remembering Peter’s attachment issues:
Tony immediately pulling him into a hug:
Peter: Um?
Tony sniffling: I would love to “vibe” as a jellyfish with you, buddy.
Peter: :)
One special name
Irondad & Spiderson
There's never enough irondad and spiderson content, and i love and miss them so much. Here's my improvised work from last night. Sorry for my mistakes if there's any!! xx
"Pepper is going to be so mad"
"I'm sure she'll understand, Mr.Stark. Right?"
Peter fidgets with his fingers, suddenly feeling extremely nervous. They were stuck in an elevator. Peter had followed Tony around all day, per Tony's request who just wanted to spend time with him during his very boring-full of meetings-tons of work-day.
This afternoon meeting happened to be outside of the Tower, in a building Tony or FRIDAY had no control over and which’s elevator, as they had seen, wasn't reliable. What was funny about this day was that Pepper had taken their phones so that Tony wouldn't be distracted.
"Stop treating me like a child!"
"Then stop acting like one." Pepper deadpanned earlier that day when Tony had refused to leave his penthouse.
He found the situation ironic, really. First, he doesn't want to go to work, then they take away his phone only to agree to Peter's presence who is almost 100% of the time the reason why Tony is always distracted, then they schedule meetings outside his workplace and life blocks him in an elevator. What a perfect a day.
"Why are you laughing?" Peter asked, clearly trying to ignore the signs of a panic attack. Tony seemed to realize that and forces Peter to sit down on the floor next to him.
"'Cause I didn't want to go to this meeting and even when I can't control it, life fulfills my biggest wishes". He watched as Peter huffed a laugh but didn’t seem to relax at all.
"Hey Pete, we're gonna be okay. And if there is a problem, need i remind you that you're Spider-Man and I believe to be Iron Man myself so..."
Peter chuckled this time, which made Tony smile in return.
"Right. It's just an elevator."
"Just an elevator. And it's pretty clean too, look at that." Tony pointed at the floor around them to distract Peter some more.
Suddenly, they felt the elevator move for an instant before it stopped again. The sound it made got Peter's ears to ring loudly. He immediately covered them with his hands and winced.
Tony instantly put his arms around Peter's shoulder to protect him. But the elevator didn't move again. They were definitely stuck now.
"It's okay, it stopped."
Peter slowly uncovered his ears and leaned against Tony's side.
"I'm sorry you have to be stuck with me" the teenager whispered, not quite enjoying the moment either.
Not only did he have to be stuck in an elevator, which is already one of the worst things that could happen to him, but Tony had to be there when he was totally freaking out over this stupid situation. Not forgetting the fact Tony was busy.
"Excuse me? That's probably going to be my favorite part of the day."
"I'm not joking, Mr.Stark. You shouldn’t be taking care of someone like me like that. And you're gonna be late."
Tony frowned.
"Okay, I think we're not on the same page right now." Peter felt Tony's perplexed stare on him. He decided to just brush it off and move away from Tony's embrace, already feeling embarrassed enough.
"Forget it, I'm sorry."
"You come back here, you're scared and I'm here for you, that's what it is." The man declared, scooting closer to Peter.
Tony waited for Peter's reaction but he didn't move. He was huddled up in the corner of the elevator. Tony sighed in defeat.
"One day you'll understand that you're as important to me as you make me feel in return."
"I don't think it's actually possible, Mr.Stark." Peter mumbled back, making Tony laugh out loud.
"Pff. Try me. You don't even call me by my name."
Peter lifted his head up with a gasp.
"Mr.Stark is your name."
"That's my old man's name. I'm Tony. Tones. Anthony for those I hate the most. Stark for the annoying ones."
"Yes, but you'll always be Mr.Stark for me." Tony rolled his eyes.
"Alright, Mr. Parker."
"No." Peter retorted, already knowing Tony was never going to stop.
"What did you say, Peter Benjamin Parker ?"
He had no idea how it could get worse than that.
"How dare you?"
"I'm not hearing you, Spider-Boy ."
Okay, now he knew.
"Tony, stop it please." The man in question raised his hands up in the air in triumph.
"That's my boy !" Peter chuckled and leaned back against Tony's side.
"I'm kidding, you know? You can call me however you want. Even the stupidest nicknames." Tony declared and looked up at him.
"Do you have stupid nicknames?" he asked.
"One time a guy called me Tony Stank."
Tony grinned when he heard Peter's loud laugh again. He doesn't think he can live without hearing his kid's laugh ever again.
Suddenly, the elevator started moving again, this time smootlhy and without any problems.
"Looks like we're going back up again."
They raised to their feet and waited for the doors to open to the meeting's floor.
"You'll wait in the corridor? It's pretty boring, i don't want you to endure these guys anyway." Tony said before the door opened and they were leaving the terrible elevator behind.
"Yeah, no problem"
Peter sat down on of the chairs and watched Tony approaching the meeting room, but before he could enter Peter stopped him,
"Oh and Mr-I mean, Tony?"
The man turned back around and nodded at him to go on.
"Even...Even Dad?" Peter's voice was shaking. Tony stood frozen in astonishment. He was not expecting this. But saying he hadn’t dream about it felt like a lie.
"Y-Yeah. Yeah that's a perfect name"
Peter grinned and Tony sent him a wink before finally entering the room.
