Steve not getting that his moralizing and constant withholding of forgiveness is pushing Tony into the arms of a far more accommodating Victor Von Doom 😈. And yes Tony spending more and more time with Victor gets him more and more judgment from Steve and thus more and more consoling from Victor. Doesn’t even have to be shipping/cheating/romantic, just Steve not being aware of how much he’s pushing Tony away and Victor being the seemingly kinder alternative

the compelling thing abt tony and victor is that they literally don't have to be like that.

they really don't. they choose to be weirdly erotically tense and weighted and enemies to lovers to friends to whatever. they're like looking at each other all: god, i can't believe i have to sleep with you? maybe fall in friendship and deep emotional compassion and understanding with you?? wow can't believe and steve and reed are on the sidelines like, you literally don't have to, like you do not and tony and victor are like, no, no i have to.

1. the character everyone gets wrong

What people get wrong about Victor von Doom is when they automatically assume he's a white man, he's not.

"Keep Doom Irish"

No lie, it's the worst thing I've ever seen on tumblr. I don't have the original post but it was a couple of years back, I think someone fancasted Cillian Murphy as Doctor Doom or it was a post in response to BossLogic creating a fanmade Cillian Murphy as Doom poster but the phrase "Keep Doom Irish" haunts me.

9. worst part of canon

Valeria skin armor. I hate it and if I could retcon it I would. Do I think Doom murders for power? Yes. Do I think he would kill his first love and wear her skin as armor? No. That kinda stuff is better suited to AUs and not in the main timeline where Victor has his own code of honor and that involves protecting his people, like Valeria Karela.

10. worst part of fanon

Not to say "People who think Doom is white" again so I'm gonna say: IronDoom, the way Tony fans shipped Doom/Tony where Victor is the abusive boyfriend, or the fact that ship even existed. I blame Infamous IronMan comics for that because it tied Doom to Iron Man and that's just a No, from me. lol. Also this isn't so widespread in tumblr fandom but if I ever venture outside my bubble the Doom/Sue fans, like I know why comic bros ship it (self inserting themselves as Doom and wanting to fuck Sue) and I hate it.

16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)

I think I sort of answered this with number 10 but I'm going to add on: I don't understand why people think Doom is a one note, cliched, mustache twirling villain whose goal is to tie Susan to the railroad tracks and scream "CURSE YOU RICHARDS" while shaking his fist. It just shows they seem stuck in the early 60s characterization and ignore or haven't read anything else. Victor is a complex character and I will never understand people simplifying interesting characters to shove them in a pre made box and then complain that all characters are the same.

do I like them: no. if they wanted me to like him they shouldn't have cast american lin manuel miranda & then made him more insufferable in comics as a result.

5 good qualities: 60s - 70s he was not that annoying tbh he's just there. like he does things but the focus is never on tony i feel in main avengers title like it is on vision & clint & hank&jan & wanda & pietro who get a lot of focused issues, i guess bc he has his own shit going on in iron man u don't need to worry so much.

favourite episode/etc: i've read one (1) iron man comic n that's the one when he's fighting the maggia who r just the mafia with a funny name n simon's company is mentioned so i guess that one??? also shout out to emperor doom where he put simon in a sensory deprivation tank for like a month and nobody talked to him that was funny
