I wanted to try something a wee bit different for @ironqrowweek this year, and the prompt 'Early Mornings/Late Nights' got me thinking about how much I enjoy drawing skies. So I did some experimenting and had a go at comic panels and some complicated gradients, and I really enjoy the results!

They still send me hate regularly. It's been literally fucking YEARS since James died on screen.

favourite fandom you joined this year i think its between stobotnik and jalex. i have met such cool people in the stobotnik fandom, and the jalex fandom is just sooooo sweet and has some of the best fics i have read in forever

favourite fic of the year  i think my favorite fic i've read this year has been Easy Lass by Anithrarith, it's a Brynjolf/OC Skyrim fic that has honestly become canon in my head. my favorite fic i've written this year might be this Trucyklav fic I wrote for an exchange in April? But I feel self conscious recommending my own fic. But I love writing Trucy. So.

favourite fanart of the year i'm just going to say my fave fanart of my own bc there is way too much to choose from but some of my favorite artists are @palant1r @roavaldamjong @princefado @a-mellowtea @liraiza-the-lover to name a FEW my favorite piece of my own was this one i did of ironqrow for pride :)

oh man??? that's a difficult question. i am really fond of trans!phoenix and i have been writing him that way in my narumayo works. i also got diagnosed with autism officially this year which gave me the confidence to point the autism beam at every character i like (they all have autism). feenie just pointed out to me my headcanon about Maya getting stretch scars from spirit channeling and I do really love that hc, I'd love to do more with it.

Now with Vacuo beginning to take stage, I anticipate people making fanart and fanfics of Qrow x Theodore.

I'm actually excited to see how that ship turns out.

Fair Game Week WIPs

I wasn't certain at first if I'd have anything for FGW this year, but then a few ideas came along, and here we are! I have one day at the first draft stage, and the others are bubbling away nicely.

So here is a snippet from each day (in no particular order):

The Captain gave his horse her head, and the beast sprang forward willingly after standing still for so long. Her nostrils flared and the warm breath of horse and rider misted in the chill of the night air as they raced towards their prey. The highwayman, aware he was being pursued, leant low over her neck and spurred his mount on. Both of them knew the ground well, and Harbinger was sure-footed as she covered the ground. Qrow grinned, his teeth white against his smudged face. His pursuer, whoever they were, was no match for him and his trusty horse.

"Glynda Goodwitch, Paranormal Investigator. You are Mr Branwen, I hope." She held out a hand and Qrow shook it, nodding and finally finding his voice. "Uh, yes, that's me. Thank you for coming, and I'm sorry—" She smiled thinly. "You were expecting someone who looked a little different, perhaps?" "I don't really know what I was expecting. But if I'm honest, you don't look how I thought you might." "This is the twenty-first century, Mr Branwen. We must move with the times, you know." She looked about the hallway as she spoke, then fixed Qrow with a serious look. "You have a problem here, I believe."

Ignoring the previous question, he rolled his shoulders with a groan. "How long do you need to stare at your reflection anyway? You know you're the fairest in the kingdom, skin like finest porcelain, hair like spun silk, blah blah blah." Winter swivelled to face him. "You are simultaneously the best and worst bodyguard I've ever had. I only wish there was someone else, but the king insists it has to be you." Qrow offered her a wide grin. "Well, your virtue is safe with me, isn't it? And obviously I'm the best... Jimmy knows it and pays me handsomely, too." One perfect eyebrow shot up. "That's King James to you, if you please."

"Maybe." Clover's tone was not enthusiastic. "Or maybe I should just concentrate on lessons, and not think about getting off with anyone while we're here." "That would work too." Elm got to her feet. "You done? We should probably—" "What?" Clover turned his head to follow Elm's gaze, his heart stuttering as he saw Qrow walk into the dining room. He was on his own for once, but quickly wove between the tables to sit down opposite Summer on the far side of the room. Clover dragged his thoughts away from the effortless grace with which Qrow moved, to see Elm looking at him pityingly.

Qrow does what he usually does— ducks his head and looks down, rubbing the back of his neck. His cheeks are pink, and Clover finds his eyes drawn to them. There's a low mutter, and Qrow glances at him before looking away quickly. It's dawning on Clover that his feelings for Qrow are becoming... not inappropriate, exactly. Unwise, perhaps. While friendly bonds between colleagues could be beneficial, a romantic relationship might prove otherwise. Clover knows he must be careful. Qrow has issues he is dealing with; Clover doesn't want to jeopardise his fragile recovery. So he keeps his distance, wishing every day for a closeness that cannot be.

Qrow stared back through the window. "No, but people do get housemates they don't know. You can come and meet my friends, if you like. And... I dunno, you could give me a reference or something? To prove you're not some weirdo." Clover pouted. "I'm not some weirdo. I'm very ordinary." Qrow narrowed his eyes. "Weirdos always say that." "How many do you know? Do you hang out with them on a regular basis?"

The trees here were thick, broad trunks growing close together and muffling any distant sounds. He alighted on a branch and cocked his head, trying to pinpoint any sound which might be helpful. Far away he could hear shouts, but he cared nothing for those who had pulled the trigger. What he wanted was— There it was. A scuffling sound, accompanied by an unmistakeable groan. I've never heard a bird make a sound like that before... it must be badly injured. He flitted from tree to tree, quickly drawing closer. The sounds were clear now, and as he paused for a moment Qrow heard a distinct Ouch. This made no sense at all. Gliding down to ground level, he reverted to his human form and stood up, listening once more. He moved quietly between the trees and after no more than fifteen paces came upon a sorry sight.

I always have a hard time explaining my ships to people, because I’m a multishipper, but I don’t always ship things the same way, so I have made a chart of various RW//BY ships I either ship or don’t ship because... I’m a list person.

‘End game / top tier ship’ is pretty self explanatory. Those are the ships that I tend to (or intend to) write into my fanfics to be long-lasting ships where the people wind up together in the end. I can’t pick between Weiss and Yang or Weiss and Pyrrha, though. I’m starting to feel like I like them both equally. XD

The ‘Great ship, wouldn’t last long’ section is for ships that I like or even love where I can and often do headcanon mutual attraction on both sides, but I imagine that their relationship would eventually end in a break-up, sometimes amicable and sometimes not so amicable and more angsty. XD Like I actually really enjoy the concept of Pyrrha and Jaune, but even if she’d lived or got resurrected, I think it makes the most sense and is most personally appealing to me for them to wind up going in separate directions.

The ‘This ship is pretty good, but not a fave’ is for ships that I enjoy, that I always like seeing fanart of and would be more than fine if the show made them canon (though sadly some of them can’t be canon now ‘cause character death,) but I don’t actually write them into fics or anything myself.

‘I get this ship, but I don’t like it personally’ is also pretty self-explanatory, it’s for ships that I really see the appeal of and could hypothetically be interested in if it was done right, but it’s just never been something I was personally drawn to.

Then yeah, there are the ships that I just don’t really like and don’t like seeing much of. There’s nothing inherently wrong with those ships, they just tend to either leave me bored or lowkey annoy me. Everyone is free to ship them and I’m sure they have interest for other people, but they’re not my style.

‘Ships I used to ship’ is kinda sad, because there are a couple of pairings I absolutely loved that are in this category, but I just for the most part find them annoying now. Some of them are just things I was low-level interested in for a bit that I got over, though. Penny and Ren is a pretty good ship... But now I just do not care for it anymore. James and Glynda seemed okay until I reached the - to  me personally - superior Ironqrow and now the more I think about it, the less I think they’d work as a relationship/

‘Alternate Universe’ ships are... Interesting. Because they’re ships that I legit hate in canon, buuuut some people make their AU versions sound really interesting. Like a Weiss who wound up being a Happy Huntress after running away from home in V4 instead of rejoining the others could potentially be very good with May, even if I really don’t like the idea of them in canon. And post-Fall Of Beacon, even if Pyrrha had lived or was resurrected, I can’t imagine Pyrrha ever fully forgiving Emerald enough to be with her romantically. But an AU where Emerald actually turned against Cinder way earlier during the Fall of Beacon and saved Pyrrha? Or an AU where Pyrrha is actually on the villains side and is working for Salem and she and Emerald are essentially rivals (or more like, Pyrrha would be Cinder’s rival but Emerald is the one who’s her age and tries to hate Pyrrha for being a ‘constant thorn in Cinder’s side’ but also starts realizing how much better Pyrrha is than Salem and maybe Emerald turns to the good side without Pyrrha but then starts working to try to get Pyrrha to turn good too?) That’s good stuff!

And then there are just the ships I hate. There’s nothing wrong with other people shipping them, and I’m sure plenty of people make it work and make good content with those ships, but ehhhh.... They’re not good for me personally.

Then back to stuff I like, there’s stuff that’s incredibly niche that I rarely see anyone talk about, but hey, I like them and I think they’re fun ships, though every single one of them has very little (if any!) in canon content to go off of. XD

I also have some Character x OC ships, but yeah. So those are my (obviously subject to change) opinions on various RW//BY Ships! I’m sure I’ve missed a heck ton of ships because there’s tons of RW//BY ships, but this was just a little fun exercise for me because I weirdly enjoy making lists. XD

It's been a little while since I last mentioned them, so here's your friendly reminder that I have Ironqrow zines for sale!

The physical zines are A5 size and printed on slightly glossy silk paper, and those are available from my online shop over on Storenvy. If digital is more your speed (say, you don't feel like paying for postage), then you can get the pdf edition from my Gumroad page!

Also, as a limited time offer, for the rest of May all the Ironwood and Ironqrow prints in my online shop are going to be $5 each, down from my usual online price for A5 prints of $7!

I need to make some room for new stock (especially with @ironqrowweek running again in August, meaning I'll probably be drawing these disasters a bunch more times), and so I won't be reprinting most of these when the last few copies sell out. Get them before they're gone!
