Oh boy it sure could have been bad if I'd used this very old iron on a project without testing it on some scraps first. Good thing I definitely didn't do that.

That would be especially embarrassing since I'm always telling people to do samples of everything. Haha yes it sure would not be great if, hypothetically, one of the raw edges inside my purple jacket was in fact.. well cooked.

(225 °C = 437 °F, and by comparison the hottest setting on my modern iron read 160 °C/320 °F)

I've had these for months and I've been ??? about what they are, but then I thought of you! You know things about old sewing! And you have followers who also know things about sewing and might know things!

So I found two of these in my grandma's sewing things that I inherited. They're approximately football shaped when viewed from the bottom, with removeable handles. One side of the bottom tapers upwards. I thought maybe they were vintage travel irons? But I don't see any evidence of heat being applied on the bottoms. Maybe they were lightly used? Or are pattern weights?

Help? At the very least I'd like to get the uncertainty out of my head

Oh it's so cute! It looks just like a tiny version of the antique iron I have, only much cleaner and shinier. I've never seen one that small, but the detachable handle makes me think that it is actually meant to be an iron. They have those so that you can leave the bottom on the stove to heat up, and then you won't burn yourself on the handle, because it stays away from the heat until you click it back into place to pick the iron up. I figure that wouldn't be necessary if it was just a novelty pattern weight.

Maybe someone who sees this post will know more! I know mini irons exist today, so maybe they have been along for much longer than I'd assumed.
