Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) dir. Irvin Kershner.
Chewie’s arms seem rather thin.
I think Yoda is what made this film for me.
“You will know when you are calm, at peace, passive.”
“No, no. There is no why.”
“Always in motion is the future.”
Spoiler: [About the rebel base being situated on the icy planet of Hoth as Vader has remote probes going everywhere to look for them. One of the probes arrive on Hoth and Luke goes to investigate it believing its a meteor. He and his Tauntaun are attacked by a wampa immediately after he tells Han he’ll be investigating. After learning that Luke never returned, Solo goes out looking for him on his Tauntaun even though the doors must now be closed and he’s been warned that his Tauntaun won’t survive after the first marker due to the snow storm. Luke is melted on to the ceiling upside down and unconscious. When he comes to, he uses the force to grab his light saber and unattach himself and fight off the wampa. He runs out, but falls down and gets consumed by the cold as an image of Ben tells him to go to the Dagobah system and learn the Jedi Way from the Jedi master, Yoda. Solo finds Luke and warms him up by putting him inside the dead carcass of the Tauntaun while he sets up camp. They are saved the following morning. Luke is put into a water chamber to defrost. The probe has been destroyed, but their camp has been alerted of. They move to get the camp out of the planet as Darth Vader approaches. They arrive and use AT-AT walkers to attack the main power generators and bring down the energy shield. Luke’s gunner dies and he works with the other fighters to harpoon the AT-AT walkers and tangle its legs so that it trips and falls. Luke eventually crashes, but gets his way up to the AT-AT walker and blows it up from the inside. He then heads to the Dagobah system as Han and Leia leave together. Han was trying to leave the Alliance at this point to get the bounty off his head with Jabba the Hutt, but this incident stopped him again. His hyper drive isn’t working so fails to get to light speed. He enters an asteroid field to stop from being chased, because the others will eventually be destroyed. He lands on one asteroid and stays to fix his ship. He does try to get it out Leia that she likes him so that he has a reason to stay. She stubbornly says he’s too much of a scoundrel to like, but they do kiss. They also discover on the outside of the ship and they shoot them down. They also see that the ground isn’t rocky and the air is very moist. Han concludes that they aren’t in a cave, but rather the mouth of an exogorth. They get out of there. Luke crashes into Dagobah and meets a creature that rummages through his food and belongings. He claims he can take Luke to Yoda so he waits. The creature later starts talking to Ben and saying he can’t teach Luke, because of his lack of patience. It is learned that this creature is Yoda. Luke argues that he is ready, but Yoda disagrees. Ben convinces him saying that Ben wasn’t all that different. He begins his training. Yoda teaches him about having control and focus with the force by being at peace. In the dark part of the forest that they are in, Luke battles an image of Vader and makes it headless only to see himself within the face. Yoda keeps training him, but he keeps failing. Luke believes everything is impossible, including getting his X-Wing out from the swamp as it sank. Yoda wants him to believe and do whatever he wants through the force, but he doesn’t believe. Yoda inspires him by getting it out himself. Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine talk about a new power in the force appearing. They conclude that it is the son of Anakin Skywalker. Palpatine says he mustn’t become a Jedi and Darth Vader says he can turn them into one of him. Bounty hunters are used to find the Millennium Falcon and bring them back alive until the Imperial Stardestroyer finds them and attacks them. They can’t get to light speed, so they end up landing on the stardestroyer so it can’t be found. When the trash of the destroyer goes out, they float with it to escape, but are pursued by the bounty hunter, Boba Fett. They head to Han’s old friend, Lando, who is heading a mining colony while Luke learns to see the future and the past. He foresees Han and Leia in trouble and pain. He decides to go save them even
though Yoda says he isn’t ready and is risking everything they all fought for. He even goes against Ben talking with him and Yoda to prevent him from messing with this time in his training where he knows all he knows, but isn’t in full control. It’s the easiest time to give in to hate and be taken over by the Dark side. As he leaves. Ben tells Yoda that Luke is their last hope, but Yoda says there is another. Han and his crew is welcomed by Lando greatly. When they get inside, C-3PO gets shot down by an unseen being and Chewie finds him in the junk pile. After putting him back together, he reveals being shot by a Stormtrooper. At the same time, Lando surrendered them to Darth Vader, who had arrived before they did through Boba Fett. Darth Vader has Han frozen in carbonite to test the machine to freeze Luke to deliver him to the Emperor. Leia says she loves Han before he gets frozen and he says he knows. The frozen Han is give to Boba Fett to give to Jabba the Hutt. Vader then takes Leia and the droids even though the original agreement with Lando was to let them stay with him. Lando has his men stop the stormtroopers as they are headed to Vader’s ship. He then takes them to the east platform to save Han, but they are too late. Vader and Luke fight as Vader tries to convince to come to the dark side. He ends up cutting of Luke’s hand and then revealing that he is Luke’s father. Luke gets upset and doesn’t believe it until Vader tells him that Luke can feel that it is true. Luke drops from the platform he is on and goes through an air shaft, causing him to hold onto an antenna on the outside of the city. He is saved by Leia, who can hear him in her head as her crew was leaving on the ship. The hyper drive was fixed by Lando’s people, but deactivated by Vader’s men. It was reactivated by R2-D2 and they manage to escape. Luke gets a new prosthetic hand.]
