Watching Halo, Episode 3
Welcome to Planet Recycle Hell, which I feel morally obligated to point out is not too darn different from a lot of the factory/ fast fashion/ greenwashing/ recycle grift economy we have now. Call your senators and make a difference, people! Ahem. Makee’s tragic backstory is revealed! I can see how she decided all humans suck, but quite honestly, how she thinks the Covenant is any better is beyond me. ESH, sweetie. Of course, I���ve seen the ship tag, I know things are going to get Complicated for her as soon as she leaves the bubble, so we’ll see…
More plotting by General Parangosky, trying and I’m sure failing to contain Halsey, as usual. I can’t really blame her for trying, but I extremely question her motives. Here’s hoping Miranda can do some good, I really like her (and would ADORE her getting to show up her mom.) (Meanwhile, am I the only one who thinks these uniforms have Royal Manticoran Navy vibes? They also remind me of the Army of Light from Babylon 5, but while the black color scheme there was meant to subvert expectations, I don’t think these are. Or that the UNSC are good guys to begin with.)
Halsey wakes the person in the pod and oh my God, there’s TWO of them now? I say, as I fall deeply, endlessly in love with Halsey’s clone. God, it’s nice to see someone call Halsey on her bs and clearly hold her own in their battle of wits (if not outright win, the way Halsey backs away from some of her questions.) I hope she sticks around, but the dialogue implies she knows she’s here to die.
Aaand here it comes. God, Halsey’s grooming of John is just endlessly creepy. Someone on the writing staff around here understands what grooming and abuse actually look like. And her goon (Adun?) shows a bit of personality at last by… almost kissing a woman he’s about to kill while she’s immobilized. Fuck this guy. I do think it’s fascinating that the clone doesn’t resist—even as the one on the chopping block, she seems dedicated to her/ Halsey’s goals, enough to die for them. That’s frankly terrifying. And die she does, in a scene that is in turns poignant (“Will it hurt?”), sickening (through her EYE?), and ridiculous (a convenient acid bath, seriously?).
And at last we meet Cortana! Immediately it’s clear she isn’t JUST a mind-clone of Halsey, which is interesting. You’d think Halsey would want Cortana to have her own personality (and possibly memories) to better control her; quite frankly without them I’m not sure what the clone had to die for, other than Hollywood handwavy Evil. If you have computers this advanced a scan would probably suffice, it's not like you put her brain in a jar. But movie logic is movie logic. On the upside, Cortana has a lot more room to grow on her own being based on Siri or whatever. And she’s going to need to grow, she doesn’t yet understand why anyone would have a problem with her and her bullheaded approach is going to be an issue as she tries to bond with the Master Chief. (In the meantime, their sniping is entertaining for us, the audience.)
Makee is kicking off her mission, pretending to be an escapee in nice clothes and flawless makeup with not a mark on her. I am deeply unconvinced. So are the UNSC crewers, which doesn’t save any of them, in a scene that is pure gross horror. (Obligatory Honor Harrington joke: “She shot stabbed him… with her finger.”) Can’t say I think much of her planning here; these people don’t know you call the Master Chief “the Demon” or that some random artifact is “The Keystone”. Ask clearer questions! You probably wouldn’t get any farther, but at least it would make sense. Also, keeping someone alive to unlock the secure tech for you would also be smart. (I should probably stop trying to make villains smarter…)
John’s trying to figure out the artifact-slash-himself, gathering more clues, etc. It doesn’t respond to Cortana, only him, which is interesting. After it’s back to the barracks, where apparently no one prepped the team for Cortana? Like, seriously? You didn’t brief them, sell her as an intelligence and operations upgrade? Getting the rest of the team excited about the possibilities might have helped with John’s acceptance. Instead, Cortana just pops up and John shuts her down. I almost feel bad for her in this scene, she honestly has no idea why she’s not being welcomed with open arms. (At the end of the scene I just wrote “Kai for President”. No idea why, just on general principle, I suppose.) Unaddressed: Is Cortana unique to John, or will they all have a copy? Or is there going to be a unique AI for each of them? If they’re worried about one Spartan going rogue, they have to worry about them all…
Kwan and Soren et al are back pretty briefly in this episode, just to establish that Kwan’s found her purpose in life: bringing down this Vinsher guy and finishing what her dad started. Not sure Chief would be thrilled (the UNSC definitely won’t) and I’m still convinced she and Soren are going to die. I’m no longer suspicious of Laera, and dang, her actress’s delivery of “The universe will be diminished without you in it” was FANTASTIC. Compliment, mourning, condemnation, and a little bit of a threat all in one. (Also, ‘deuterium money’. I love Scifi.)
Ah, this must be where all the “Master Cheeks” jokes are from. I, too, get naked when I plan to stab myself in the ass. (I kid, it’s actually more practical than getting blood all over your clothes. Less hydrogen peroxide needed!) KAI! Watches from the shadows. Is she gonna report him? How are the other Spartans going to react when she tells them? Again, I said her being smart could go either way…
John wanders through the city having Feelings and a Barbie movie moment of human connection, complete with space music! I live for this stuff. Gimme all the futuristic worldbuilding you want, I’ll eat it up. I love the electronic instruments, the little concert space, all very cool. (Sidenote: one of the transit stops is called ‘Manassas’? Yikes.) Is this the first time John’s been out here? Is he not supposed to be out or did they just suppress the desire to leave? What do the Spartans do with their free time? More visions, and I feel the UNSC is going to eventually regret giving this man a top-level hacker at his beck and call. Cortana slipping into chirpy promo voice as she recites the Reach for Life info was funny.
Reach for Life project, Reach the planet, Reach City. I’m gonna go ahead and guess “reach” is a bit of an Arc Word/ Concept. Reaching for the stars? Or something else?
Off they go to Eridanus, with Halsey and her creepy goon in tow, while Miranda is left behind with a window of opportunity. I have a bad feeling about this.

I hate to say it but I feel a lot of disappointment with Jk, so much so that I’ve mentally checked out of his release and want to hear nothing of it anymore. It’s just disappointing to see him sellout like this, his interviews aren’t making things better bc how can he say he just wants to be more famous/be a giant pop star, what happened to just loving to make music ? Feel like idek know him like I thought I do. I’m also stuck between if I should be mad at him or not bc at some level he did know this was going to happen, knew they were going to push him more than the other members(we literally see him planning to be big in suwitcha ep). He seems so arrogant and full of himself nowadays. Not an ounce of gratitude??? No thankyou, nothing. Straight up asking for more, as he knows scooter is preparing him an English album. Don't know how long he's gonna go well with this bitchy attitude. Idk how he can change like this or maybe the older humble JK was all a facade. Didn't he also said that ? Anyway, it's just a matter of time till Jimin gets done with his bs and drops him. Idk how long Jimin can pretend to be happy and supportive of him even while being arrogant af.
so let’s start with the obvious: fans don’t know the celebrities/idols they’re fans of on a personal level. what you and i assume about any idol can be completely wrong however i feel it’s the same with random people as well. sometimes i hear from people what they assume about me and i’m shocked because it’s so different to how i actually am. unless you’re close friends with someone or on a family type closeness level, i don’t think you can assume to know anyone and as long as you recognise that, you’re cool. your message is also completely biased and i hope you recognise that too.
that said let’s assume jungkook has changed or his humble self was a facade. this would depend on your definition of humble. i wouldn’t say jungkook was humble as in what i saw in him was he was severely lacking any type of recognition for himself. this is what i think people interpreted as humble. it was however not good for jungkook and i say this as someone who never gives themselves credit.
what has changed is that he doesn’t sweat his “mistakes” anymore. this makes him more confident. another thing that makes him more confident is how he is challenging himself right now. i feel like if you want to be fair to him you have to admit (and give him credit for) how he’s getting out of his comfort zone. recording a full song in english, working (alone) with people who only speak english, going on a morning show, an evening show, stationhead livestreams, doing a lot of that in english, not even mentioning how much frankly courage it took for him to shoot the mv he did on his own, record the explicit version of seven and release it…all that was new to him and these are the things that allow you to grow as a person. with this comes confidence which people can confuse with being cocky.
on the other hand jungkook is also honest. he is telling you how it is and trust me everyone in the industry wants to be a global superstar. even if they deny it and say they only do it for the sake of the music. the two can coexist at the same time. jungkook goes on live, he talks in interviews and he’s telling you exactly what he thinks and feels. that is so rare it’s laughable people don’t appreciate it more. you may call it arrogant but he’s very self aware and let’s be honest, would you want someone who’s underestimating themselves or would you want to be a fan of someone who understands the situation they’re in and acknowledges it? he knows how big he and bts are. why pretend otherwise? he is showing gratitude by going live at ass o’clock, always talking about how much army means to him (well the ones who genuinely support him) and being as honest as a celebrity possibly can be. he’s grateful for his true fans but i think fans also need to understand that while they are putting massive amounts of money, time and effort in, jungkook did his part as well. he worked hard for us (while being ill too during promo). fans also need to recognise that they’re not the sole cause of his success - the GP does actually like him. yes without fans he wouldn’t be where he is but he also put the work in and should be able to be proud of that without minimising his efforts.
he’s also at an age where people tend to figure themselves out more and i know cause i’m in the same boat. i can see he’s going through that. chapter 2 i think is really allowing them all to get out of the comfort bubble of the group and grow as people on their own which is great. inevitably, jungkook being human, will change over the course of his lifetime just like all of us.
i’m not going to entertain the BS about how he’s pushed more than the other members because I don’t think that’s fair to say. they’re all getting different opportunities and dare i say it is their choice. i know jimin wasn’t happy with how long his promo was but unless he talks about it in more detail i refuse to put a lot of weight on it because i don’t know how much promo he wanted to do. as far as i can see they’re all getting to do what they want to do and they’re booked and busy.
as for jimin dropping jungkook that’s just what you want to see and it realistically isn’t going to happen. i highly doubt jimin is pretending anything😂that’s just wishful thinking. i’m not even going to go into anything specific that happened recently because there’s no point, it’s a given that they will remain close and i have full trust in that based on being a fan for 6 years.

he'll be doing something and thoughts like “they would really like this” or “they would fucking hate this” or just picturing your reactions to something that donald’s doing in the current moment will cross his mind
he'll replay past conversations and interactions with you an unhealthy amount of times, suffering through tears. whether he wants to admit it or not, you had an affect on donald.
if you die tragically(say, beaten to death over union bs or jumped or whatever), he’ll punish those mother fuckers. no mercy.
donald'll be more salty and short-tempered to everyone around him. even kingsley isn’t safe.
donald misses you, and he longs to be in your presence one last time, even if it means listening to you complain about how cruel he runs his union.

jake will call you, desperate and foolishly hoping that you'll pick up your phone. but all he ever gets is your voicemail. if you had access to your phone, it'd be voicemail after voicemail of jake violently sobbing into his phone, begging, pleading for you to come back.

his body will have a reaction to your death, but his mind won’t catch up.
with news of your death, wolf will start to tremble, his voice will be useless, and his body is super tense. he might even start crying.
but while all of this is happening, wolf won’t be feeling anything internally. his mind will run blank as he tries to process the fact that you’re dead.
wolf's emotionally numb and the only coherent thought he has is “oh, they’re dead. is this how someone’s supposed to react? what i’m doing now? why is there tears? i don’t feel sad? okay. they're gone. you're gone.”
he saw you this morning. wolf walked you to school. what happened? is this a sick joke?? cause if it is, wolf will beat your ass to death's doorstep himself.
but it’s not a joke and that slams him when he attends your funeral. wolf will be in the back of the room, hands stuffed into his pockets and eyeing your sobbing family and friends warily.
wolf doesn’t participate, hell, he can’t even bring himself to witness you getting buried, but he stays for the eulogy.
just hearing what your friends and family have to say about you kills him.
but it’s also almost like a peace offering at the same time. in what wolf hears about you via everyone else, he realizes that the you that you were around him was only for him. you showed him sides of you that none of these people knew about.
if wolf walked out of your funeral with anything that day, it was a minuscule glimmer of bitter sweet pride that he was the only one that got to love that version of you.

he’s just pissed off. permanently.
cries himself to sleep over you, is sweet to your family at your funeral, and stays through the whole thing
he doesn't know how to process these emotions. grape might lecture him about the 5 stages of grief, but forrest wouldn't be listening.
he'd dig himself a grave, drown himself in whatever he could get his hands on to escape reality.
forrest would pull the dumbest shit and end up driving Hyeongshin into the ground with his carelessness and get beaten a millimeter from death by donald's hands.

he’s a giant softie, he’ll cry until he’s a human raisin as soon as he gets the news.
he won’t say anything to anyone, especially at your funeral. sure, he’ll talk to your family, but it’s short and quiet.
jimmy would definitely stand at your headstone hours after your burial ends. he won’t say anything, but he’s there. and he desperately wants to know if you’re there, too, sitting on your headstone or standing next to him, leaning into his side like you always did when you were alive.

you broke him. i don't know how else to explain it. ben's screams still haunt whoever was in earshot to this day.
ben's typical optimism and emotional maturity in tough situations will be thrown out the window.
he can't even take care of himself. ben will be too busy laying, numb, in his bed to attend your funeral, but gogo and the others would force him.
bens eyes are dead and he scarily resembles a corpse as he just exists while your funeral commences.
he's a husk of the person he used to be, though it'll take a long while before he's able to start living again.

he disappears. no one knows where he went or if he’ll come back.
ben will try the ocean to see if alex is there, and the first few times he might be, but alex quickly gets sick of being brought back home to where you weren’t there.
alex thinks that if he isn’t in your neighborhood, walking by your school, your favorite store, that cafe you love, you aren’t dead.
it’s easier to process your death if alex is away from all the things that reminds him of you.
alex would drag himself to your funeral and would comfort your mother as your father holds his shoulder and talks about all the things you’d say about alex to them. your dads voice would be wobbly and your mother would laugh through rivers of tears and say how giddy you were after a date with him you’d be skipping through the rest of the week.
if, one day, he does come back, alex won’t say anything. he’ll focus on bettering himself because if he couldn’t protect you from death, what use does he have?
teddy jin
teddy spends his days inside with co. he’s quiet about your death, but not the concerning type of quiet.
it’s almost like teddys pondering why you died, though the cause of your death is public knowledge.
oddly, teddy processes and gets through his grief healthy. he does become more quiet than he was before.
like jimmy, teddy would stand for hours at your burial site. he just can’t nail the reality that you’re gone, even though he sat through and talked at your funeral.
gerard jin
gerard would be suicidal. if he can’t bear the idea that his friend couldn’t perform in his band for one year over burned hands, gerard wouldn’t survive news of your death.
he wouldn’t touch his guitar, and his voice is too weak without you to sing.
he attends your funeral, though, and he tries his hardest to gain the strength to talk to your family.
his mom would hand him your journal/note that you wrote, adamant that this is something he needs to read.
and he does, but he wishes to god that he didn’t.
you wrote to him and about him. every little thing that you two did together, gerard’s quirks that you loved. hell, you even poked fun at him one time or another.
he clings to your words and there’s months of grief in store for him.
when gerard finally starts to get over your death, he’ll write the most beautifully grim song about you.
gray yeon
we’ve all experienced what stephan ann has done to gray, so his reaction to you dying will be almost the exact same.
but this time, gray has friends. ben and alex would help gray start to get back into living again. those two would take him out, starting small and hopefully working back up to what he usually would do before your death.
eugene and gerard would be the silent supporters, eugene being more apt to confront gray and directly asking him what he needs.
rowan and teddy are the two idiots in the corner trying to be serious, but rowan fucks it up and gets smacked by teddy. they’re a distraction for gray, even if for a moment, but a welcomed one.
gray would write to you, telling you about his day and what’s been going on that you’ve missed.
once he’s finished writing to you, he’d walk to your grave and set it down, a small part of him hopeful that somehow you’ll be able to read it.
once he’s more comfortable around your tombstone, gray will take time to sit down and talk to you instead of letters.
eugene gale
poor baby doesn’t know what to do :(
eugene would close up and shun everyone around him.
he’d be mute and refuse to open up to anyone, deciding that suffering in silence is the best way to go instead of bothering everyone else with his grief.
eugene might go as far as to be hostile to ben and everyone else, and that’s when they know something is wrong wrong.
eugene is in desperate silence at your funeral, grasping at air to try and stop himself from crying.
he takes notice of the flowers at your eulogy, oddly. you had never stated what you like regarding flowers, if you liked them at all, so eugene found it odd that there were extravagant bouquets for you.
but when he visits your grave, he’ll bring different types of flowers and, depending on how well the grass above your casket is growing, find out which ones you like.
there’s no logic to this, eugene is aware of that, but it’s something that reassure eugene that you aren’t totally gone.
after months, eugene would sit at your grave and rattle off facts and stories to your head stone just like he did when you were alive.
rowan im
rowan could barely survive through your funeral, having to leave multiple times from sobbing, and visiting your grave is unbearable right now.
he would force himself to stay bright and cheery. he’s the type to make sure that nothing that bothers him will show.
he needs to stay that one friend that can make everyone laugh, ya know?
but more and more, rowan’s grief would seep onto his mask and the group would definitely notice.
it’d start with one quiet day, and then the jokes are less and less, and then for a whole week rowan just gives up.
how’s he supposed to function when you’re gone? you’re his number two, the one person who would go along with his shit and have fun.
how’s he supposed to find fun in mundane things now if you’re not around??

OG BPP did a lot of good, also managed to help get several gun control laws passed in the state of CA because of a wrong turn, Huey Newton and Eldridge Cleavar and a bunch of the rest of them too, were well versed in gun laws at the time and followed them to the letter.
At that point in CA you could observe law enforcement in their actions, from a reasonable distance, 8-10 feet or so, with a shotgun sitting on your shoulder, legally.
Managed to keep some "roughhousing" we'll call it, from the cops happening, as well as making sure they followed the law, they were the cellphone cameras of their time, but far more intimidating.
(When you hear people say that gun laws have racism at their core, this is one of the reasons people say that)

I'm beyond bored. So like, I'mma just write random things for now. This is just a part 1 for now ig? Let's see. Okay I'm hyping this song btw listen to it while reading ig!!!

She sighed heavily. The petite yet dignified girl knew that by the time she became a god, she'll have to make a big sacrifice. Yet, that sacrifice cannot be known by anyone, especially the ones above, for it will anger them, and calamity will befall Fontaine once more.
"I know I may not sound like it, but... faced with death.. I find myself a little afraid..."
Her voice trembled. She knew. It's her fate. It's her destiny. It's her goal. Yet, it scared her. The thought of death. Even a god shudders at the thought of their life ending. Even if they lived for so long, even if they've seen it all, even if they're a god.. Death does not discriminate. A painful yet beautiful process, wouldn't it scare any living being?
In the process of saving everyone, she must not only collect the faith of her people, but also let one suffer; her own humanity. Is it really worth it to let one person bear the whole pain, or is it better to let everyone bear the pain an equal amount? In this case, of course only one big suffering is the better option.
She regretted needing to bring Furina into this whole mess made by the previous god. But she too was an oceanid back then, romanticizing the life of a human. So why can't her divinity experience that, too?
Well, again, it's her destiny to die, to save everyone. It's no more a suffering of one people, but two. One needs to live a facade for five centuries, while the other can't live the life she wanted. But aren't they one and the same? Maybe yes, maybe no. Actually, let's just say they're a different person
Now, she stood there, the sword hovering above her head. The sign of her death. It will soon be the curtain's call, the last dance, the ending to this whole charade of suffering, of dreaming, of hoping. Finally, everything will come to an end.
She looked back at the man behind him. Who's trying his hardest to not run to her, to keep her alive. She doesn't deserve this. But what other choices do they have to save the entirety of Fontaine?
With this, he'll get his powers back. And the people of Fontaine will live happily. Furina will live happily.
Then, why does his heart churn, aching at the incoming death of "someone whom he just met?"
The smile on her face only makes his heart hurt more. Why does she willingly let herself die?
No... He already knew... It's the strength of her love for her people that made her willingly to do this sacrifice.
He reached out to her. But it feels like she's too far. Yes... She's too far for him to reach. Too far. And he hated it. That he can't save her out of all people.
"Farewell, Neuvilette. I hope you've enjoyed the part you played these five hundred years."

part two. Ive decided to make comments as i watch big bulks so i don’t forget what i’m thinking.
1. the more sam and colby talk abt cody and satori… the more i believe them. like maybe im just a chameleon to opinion but they genuinely seem to believe in c&s and i wasn’t there, i haven’t experienced any of this so i think i’m back to ‘hey maybe it wasn’t all bs and this might be real’. I also firmly do not believe cody was cracking joints bc how? they felt it in the floor, heard it in the walls.. doesn’t make sense. also if the house ever goes up again they need to put an offer down. i get what sam was saying and it not being practical (properly value 300k but asking for 1.4m? that’s steep). it’d be a great investment tho.
2. with sam and colbys luck, one of them would get the most undeniable evidence of the paranormal (someone levitating, thrown a distance, possessed…) and people would still be like ‘fake!’ Lol Also gram (?) just mentioned a similar experiment to what we were discussing the other day! except he said take random people and not tell them which is haunted, we were saying put snc in a place and not tell them its haunted and then see what happens. they liked that idea so who knows… they might lol
3. i will always be so fascinated and proud of colby for how he handled and continues to be so transparent about his cancer journey. i say journey bc it will continue to be apart of his life for years to come, whether through medical appointments, anniversary anxieties, or just talking about it. mad props to him, mad props.
4. i just got a series of flashes in my mind of black and white photos of snc respectively announcing engagements to their partners and births of their children and it made me smile. one day, boys. one day that’ll be your future, your “purpose”.

1, I believe that they believe in Cody and Satori. I've never called snc's credibility into question with that whole mess, and it kind of annoys me that others do - not cause I think they are above reproach or something, but because people love to say "oh snc never bothered to even try to debunk these guys, so they must be in on it." Like, WHAT? They literally flew back across the country weeks later to try and debunk it cause they knew full well that there were a lot of ways out and around this. When the controversy started, they reached out to C&S and asked if they could run more tests and C&S said no. SNC, having done all of that, came out still believing them while also fully acknowledging that they could be faking - not much else they can do besides that right there, so why they are still coming under fire about it when C&S are the "frauds" is beyond me.
Literally, do y'all want them to kidnap these two people, tie them up, remove their shoes, and force them to do this barefoot? Do you want them to release this additional footage they have that C&S did not give them permission to release that they could probably get sued over (since releasing it would be done without consent) and possibly blacklisted from the entire paranormal community, just so reddit can have their fucking jollies? Like...?? Go after C&S and let snc continue to have their beliefs on the whole thing, since they did everything they felt they could to disprove this before making their decision on where they stood on the issue.
Sorry for the rant, that whole situation just annoys me.
As far as them almost buying the house - that made me laugh, cause we joked about the possibility of them doing that on here back when the house went up for sale. So knowing it almost happened is not only funny, but also explains some vague shit they said back in the day about possibly owning a haunted house lol.
2, You know, Sam's exuberant insistence that he wants to have some horrible thing happen to him so that he could have the experience and finally know for 100% that the paranormal is real is exactly the problem with Sam, and I've been calling that out for years. The fact that he can so casually say it out loud made me both feel vindicated and perturbed by him and his hubris (here's a good example of his hubris again lol).
But yea, I hope they take the idea and run with it!
3, I thought it was interesting to hear him be honest about the fact that this whole situation with the cancer is hitting him harder now than it did while he was in the thick of it. That is trauma. That is shock and adrenaline wearing off, and hindsight creeping in. I think it's important to be able to come out and say, "Yea, not all of this is a positive, and some of this will stick with you for years." Colby tries his damndest (to a fault sometimes) to always come across as a glass all the way full and overflowing kind of guy, or a stoic soldier who doesn't complain and keeps his head up, but then he's also very open about his emotional state, and vaguely alludes to his deep mental health struggles from time to time and I just think there's a well of really dark emotion buried deep, deep inside of him that would be healthier for him and everyone to let out every once in a while.
Anyway, that was a side tangent to the main point, which is that it is very impressive that he continues to put himself out there and speak so candidly about such a stigmatized topic.
Although, I don't think he grasps what the word "celibate" means, but he tried and that's what counts lol
4, I think it's high comedy that these two act like they've never given thought to their kids growing up together when they literally were just joking about this on xplrclub a few months ago. These two have brains like sieves lol.
Also, the looks on their faces when the host said "you should have girlfriends that are friends with each other" like yea, they are working on that right now, as a matter of fact.
And I think they'll be in Zumiez for a long time, so you should be good!!

hmm in the premise that SE is definitely set out to be killing a non existent ship in the trilogy (preferably in part 2 already), I just don't understand how anyone can think the story would go astray from it's array of chekhov's guns. Tbh, when I first watched AC, as a kid, in my mind I just assumed tifa was his gf and z and a were like his comrades who died. The part where he called him "mother" did help tons for me to think of it this way. It was only after 15 years? That I discovered there was even a debate? So I spoiled myself and by the principles of storytelling, FF7 seems to have the trope of quite literally any amnesia tropy kdrama plot I've ever seen that also exist in jp media. Aka, anything that happened during his amnesia phase does not count after finding out who he is, because he was most party manipulated to not remember things by the narrative and its character. Mind you, this is just me spoiling myself for a small context of a game i haven't played yet and only have superficial understanding of the characters. Also, the part in lifestream really sells it lol, he gets himself back? Because he was false before? It's so weird why this is even confusing.
So, I had a conversation with my bro about this and he's a debater, I told everything about the "LTD" and it's a long talk but he says, it's a non-debate. Since cloti is sourced explicitly in the game and sources, answering cloud's feelings as the main question.. the ltd asks "what does he feel for a?" But the thing is, it can also be asked "what does he feel for z?" Easily can be romantic IF we base thier "logic" of ca on zack + cloud. Canon wise both are stated as friends to him. But romantic? For both, it LITERALLY doesn't exist. It's not as to make it vague per say, but that the writers, story, and characters have no idea that it's even needed to be answered. Aka it is by default platonic. Not vague, it's platonic as stated by canon sources as it's the only one that exists. The LTD is a cult like idea that continued to persist in the fandom of FF7. But never in the mind of it's creator. This is their mistake. They find this as an activity of the fandom, but reality is, it undermines their work greatly. Destroying all the characters, and story they've made and for what? Cheap pity fan service? That's lazy. This isn't a charm of the game, but a mistake of its delivery. I mean as evident as how many pitied tifa in AC. Essentially it's like 1+1=2 (canon) but someone says it's 3. In short it's BS, but a lot are biting on "maybe it is 3" and ignoring all the proof for the sake of negating. Hence a non-debate because canon has already won and will always win.
Now, I saw a zerith point out how they're so happy they're even getting anything. Tbh I found this strange, a good story would utilize the successful built up if zack and they are thank god. But why do I see this as a random person? And they don't? I feel there's trauma in this fandom, and I hate that for all of you and a story that has intense potential. Which leads me to a "funny" thought. It seems for so long, cas have been going on about their way to misinform everyone, thus encouraging incels, dudebros, bandwagoners alike. This does not seem to sit well with devs, I sure hope so. I feel like the fact that they've been this toxic, is the reason why SE is extra mean to them and is even planning to finally give them an answer to the "what does c feel for a?" After all these time? A question that was never important to begin with because it's already platonic by default but copers want more. It is because of this desire, most likely "he doesn't feel romantically inclinde, even if you as a player did, he does not, never will, never did" would be the answer. SE could have let them have their merry way, but they've been pos. So they made the compilation, imperfect, but there's Zack, now Zerith is coming around and with closure, Cloti is being emphasized. They added stuff for cloti and more important, reduced what was "theirs". Had cloud's mocap actor emphasize cloti and downplay ca. We even had a trailer quite literally exposing to the whole world how disgusting the idea of ca is, and if you liked it? Lol get help , your morals are astray. There's so much much more, and for some reason if this is successful, if SE actually gives a shit for art and not cheap money? Then lmao, cas made all of this happen just because they can't stop fcking things up. The existence of a problem, that needs to be fixed. Because of that, ZA will be pushed on their faces, and they will definitely not like CT more with all the sexual built up in part 1. I'm obviously joking to " thank them", of course, the devs who lost their patience are to be thanked as they've been inspired to take responsibility for their shortcomings as well. But yeah, if everyone understood OG on the get go? And AC didn't get much shit? Nobody pitied tifa? doubt we would be even getting this much content for cloti, maybe cloud, and quite especially tifa.
It's a strange journey, but I hope I'm right about them having integrity. I sure hope so. I hope they don't leave room for pity, I hope they are ruthless with it. I don't think I ship anyone but I am a sucker for a masterpiece, and I very much want this to be one.
None of the devs have ever thought about that ship, and even when asked point blank Nojima was all "idk" and had to come up with something on the spot but even that was negative because he stated Aerith cares more about the planet than she would Cloud
Which is obvious from how she has zero respect for him

Welcome to part two of whatever this is or as I like to call my Angry Bird Family Au, this time with the rest of season 2 and maybe some season 3.
Firsrly I want to stabilish some ground rules for my Gotham AU's:
1️⃣ Oswald doesn't gradually becames dumber. His loss of the strategic power he was known for in the early seasons had no narrative sense or explanation and soo doesn't exist.
2️⃣ Ivvy has her normal age. Now I like to belive that hers and Oswald relacionship would be different if she looked like a young teen, because we see how Oswald treats childrem (even though he dislike most of them) and I do think while he knows Ivvy is a kid the cognitive dissonance of seing an adult woman instead makes so he doesn't really sees her as a child.
3️⃣ I dunno if I have the hability to write DID in a realistic way and don't want to half ass some ableist bs like Gotham did, so Riddler is less of a second personality and more like a metaphor for Ed's gradual transformation.
4️⃣ All of this are minor notes, after all this is a mere "random au notes" post annyway. Also my explanation for Isabe-lah is completly insane but it's more than the show so fuck it.
5️⃣ Ed reacts in a more in characther way to Isabe-lah abeit still a completly stupid, insane and "we can see the tragedy for the start" way. [This will probably only be relevant in the next post of this AU, but hey, consider yourselfs warned]
6️⃣ Gabe doesn't betray Oswald. Now while I loved the whole scene, it doesn't make sense to me that during all the other times Oswald was in a similar low he stayed loyal, because there is no difference between the time he finally betrays Os and all the others. I will always go to the middle term route and say he did dislike Oswald and saw him as a freak but he was always sure Oswald would win and that time wasn't different. [Again won't come up this part, but still] (I do preffer to imagine Gabe was actually loyal and liked Oswald, but I think the "hates his guts but still belives him blindly" fits cannon better)
So let's go:
▫️We are back where we started and Oswald is still a fugitive and while Jason wants to follow him and hide, Oswald doesn't let him because he can actually be a responsable adult every full moon.
▫️While he bregundgly agrees to not follow Oswald around - as long as they have a way to comunicate (via burner phones and hidden letters in the right places) - he absolutely refused to go to Jim's again. He may like Lee, but he is not going to play "fake family" with a pig even less one that cleary sees him in a bad light already. (Sorry, Gotham!Jim fans, but this man totaly it's the to consider a kid an irredemable criminal. I mean he never tried to help Selina have a stable life or get out of crime, he treated her with kiddie gloves but never oftered real support or even acted a bit as if there was a clear connection between poverty and crime, he would probably blame Oswald for Jason's behavior hope keeping them appart would solve it and after seeing it didn't ignore all the other factors and see Jason as a lost cause, though in a softer way)
▫️After considering Gabe, Butch (who he is at odds with btw, because at this point he is dating Tabitha and recently lost his hand thanks to Penguin) and worse Zsaaz for posible homes for Jason (Oswald does not know many adults who don't hate him), the kid just stays with Ed. Helping Jason is the perfect alibi for why Edward would aid a known criminal and he is already there anyway and no one can really make Jason move if he doesn't want to.
▫️While Ed is a better option than small mob guard with not that much on the brains depart, guy who just lost his hand by Jason's father figure and hitman and Jim (if you ask Jason, other people would say Jim was fine) he still has no idea how to deal with kids and treats Jason as basically a small adult (with more rigths to ice cream). He does gives Jason homeschool program a hard update cause Ed thinks normal schooling is not advanced enough, gives him ice cream when he is sad, is real nice and buyed him a plushie penguin when he said he missed Oswald. He also sees no problem in bringing bodies from work to the apartment, let's Jason desapear for days like a cat (as long as he has a knife), has no rules (besides the homeschooling, don't mess with the bodies unless I"m surpervisin and that Jason caries a knife at all time and the last was an Oswald rule really) and ignores Jason's nightmares cause he is just the wrong person to have an emotional talk to. Jason thinks he is great.
▫️Then Oswald is catched and send to Arkham. Jason is furious. Specially when Arkham doesn't let him visit without the signature of his legal guardian (forged documents or not he is literaly trying to visit his legal guardian) and sad. While he can't visit he does send Oswald letter's and care packages. Strange confiscates most of them. But neither of them knows that. By this tine he also starts to visit Gertrude's grave with Ed and when he is mentslly ready by himself too. [Detail: he was also not allowed to see Oswald in the precint and Ed had to basicaly infiltrate the kid so they could say goodbye, so in this AU Ed get's a third infiltration at the GCPD and I can assure he used a dumb disguise this time too]
▫️ As his inicial plan was to let Jason stay with Jim, Oswald din't told Jason about what truly happened to Galavan. On otherhand he did tell Edward. As Jason ended up at Nygma, Ed told him and Jason decided to blame Jim for everything (I need to point out that not only Jason is a kid but Ed is very biased and that if Thalia was able to manipulate Jason against Bruce in the name of Joker being alive - and cannon ignoring the amazing convoluted reason the OG comic gave for it - Ed can do it too).
▫️Now while I think Nygma could've solved his Jim Gordon paranoia by forging some documents- like a resignation letter wrote by Ms. Kringle that just got lost in the mist of GCPD general chaos - he only has his paranoia and a eight years old who's moral compass has being broken to pieces by bad influences. Jason has no idea about the detals behind Kristen's death (or he would be rightfully mad at Nygma) so when he hears Ed talking to himself about planning Jim Gordon's dowfall he is "I'm in".
▫️Ed's plan goes mostly the same, except Jason helps to make Lee less suspicious by making her belive Nygma's odd behavior is because he had to take care of a kid and also acidentaly giving Ed the idea to fake Kristen's resignation letter (I will NEVER understand why Ed didn't do it, like he had all the means - btw, I say Jason accidentaly gave the idea cause Jason doesn't have the full Kristen picture or he would be kindda shaken cause she was a good person who kept getting the short end of the stick and he knew a lot of similar cases on the street).
▫️By hanging a lot around the GCPD - because of Ed - and being a very good spy thanks to his friendship with Cat and his street time he does hear Jim talking to Harvey about Oswald asking him for help and "lying" about being tortured , Jason is pissed and tries to tackle Jim for it (he is a child so Jim just stops him with one hand and holds the thrashing kid until he calms down, Harvey helps. Jason does thanks Harvey because he can be polite, but he just says "I hate you and I hope you suffer" to Jim (his accent is slowly fading as he hangs with Oswald and Ed just as it did after a while of him living with Alfred and Bruce in cannon). [This scene has no reason, I just really think it was a very low moment for Jim- he has some of those, enough to accidentaly subvert the "not all cops" thing he has going - and I needed the catharsis.] (Of course, for ny real hc catharsis is of Barbara Lee discovering this moments and desconstructing Jim as she starts to leave childhood and symbolicaly to question the systems of power she was raised and had faith in ultimately becaming batgirl and fighting for a system that can actually help opressed people and allow criminals to change. But that is me projecting into Babs as always).
▫️Next bullet point. Oswald leaves Arkham after being brainwashed, goes to Tabby and Butch gets some featters and goes to Ed. Things go mostly as cannon, except between Ed and Oswald, Jason always had his loyalty set (say all you want about cannon Jason, but for all his active antagonizing he is still very loyal to Bruce and the batfam, he won't follow them blindly but he will choose than at every shot), especially whe Oswald cleary needs his help. So he picks one of the books Ed gave him and his penguim plushie, laughs at Oswald's face when he says Jason should stay with Ed cause Oswald has no house, basically say "I was homeless for waay longer, don't care" and revenge be dammed (he does promises Ed he won't tell his plans for Jim to no one and wishes him luck.
▫️Elijah has a son and a grandson and Jason is very distrusting at first. But if the guy is danger, more reason for him to stay, right? Also he is eight and Elijah bribes him with age apropiated books and ice cream. He still absolutly refuses to have a separeted room from Oswald. Between the whole Galavan deal, Arkham and the brainwashing, the baby got separation anxiety and can you blame him?
▫️Brainwashed or not, Oswald is the best in helping Jason with nightmares and making him feel save (even through he won't actually kill the monster and will talk some bs about violence being wrong when Jason asks even for the imaginary ones, truly sad).
▫️While Jason does quickly grows to trust and like Elijah, the same does not apply to Grace and her kids and during their small period of bliss (and how long was it? A week? A month? Three days? Who knows, time is weird in Gotham) Oswald has to keep reprimanding Jason's manners though in the most soft tone posible. Elijah finds it funny. "I'm sorry for calling Grace an opportunistic whore, even though it was totaly called for and I totaly belive she is all that. But it was rude and I'm better than that. I'm also sorry for saying that Charles is dumb and any book he writes will be an offense to literature and implying that all the things I said to Grace apply to Shasa, the last one isn't even all true yes she is awfull and also an opportunistic whore but she doesn't look like a Dicken's villan."
▫️It doesn't change much. Except that when Shasta attemps her weird seduction plot, Jason and his plush Penguin are also in the bed because the aforementioned separation anxiety and it is an even weirder event to everyone involved. Also Elijah does talk to Shasha about it cause of course Jason would bable, this time it even was kindda inocently. He was just complaining about being waked up be Shasha being crazzy. She pretends Jason missanderstood the situation and she was just being friendly and calling them to breackfest. Oswald agrees because the whole thing makes him unconfortable.
▫️Things still go mostly the same. Grace tries to ofter only Oswald a home after Elijah death (because Oswald can do a DNA test and be recognized as heir but now she knows Jason is adopted he really isn't her problem) but stands the ofter to the kid because Oswald says that without Jason he won't stay (and starts questioning her because Jason isn't the known criminal) and she doesn't want to let loose threats.
▫️When I say things went the same I mean it. So yes, Oswald still cocked his step-siblings and fed them to Grace (I will always defend he didn't eat them himself cauee he was very disgusted by Pig's meatpies). Beforehand he did ask Jason to stay in the library because he is a tiny bit better at not exposing kid's to gruesome scenes than Ed. And Jason of course realized he was back and hugged him first.
▫️He also has his weird pos-brainwash breakdown but it lasts less time cause Jason is really concerned. So he clean the bodies, keeps Graces head and lives a kindda normal out outsied of the mob scene for a while, he does only come back a 100% after he sees Galavan is back, but this time he is functional until that moment. No roting corpses.
▫️Remember the whole "not exposing my kid to gruesome scenes". He does bring Jason to his "let's rocket launch Galavan" mission cause Jason also deserves revenge for Gertrud. I still think he is in the same level of parenting as Bruce (depending on the Bruce version even better).
Next step is the whole mess that is season 3. Get ready.

so idfk critblr ask etiquette because i dont go here also i was supposed to have left the fandom a year ago but what can you do, right. i'll just throw my shit at you like a monkey and hope something sticks???
my interest is billzo, esp how endlessly trauma informed all of his actions are, ever. I watched his recent video about his expirience with disassociation and content creation and all that. Have you watched that? Do you have opinions? I have opinions. I am not gonna type them all out because rambling that much in a random ask would probably be rude (?). But still, anything on Billzo would be neat my brain is in overdrive figuring him out.
One thing i find interesting about him is how much and how well he lies. Like he does it for fun all the time, to the point where i almost want to pathologize it (mans having a bit too much fun with it ಠಿ_ಠ). Also normally i am very good at telling when people are lying but he catches me off guard regularly... And im kinda of stuck between putting the lying into his trauma informed actions or just calling him a Pathological Liar (which seems harsh). Also VERY possible some of the stories other anons said he has told on stream are bs, just saying.
Another thing is this (trauma response?) he does where he wants to say something, believes it would be offensive to his fans or people around him. Then, he does this weird thing where he gets pissed at shutting himself up, gets defensive over something he hasn't even said yet, decides offense is the best defense, and usually it comes as the original thing that he wanted to say, but defensively and rude-ish. He does it multiple times in the misfits "do all streamers think the same" video, if anyone is interested. Its SUCH a weird behaviour and i want to dissect his brain like a frog (Joke). I dont know a lot about that number wizardry you do, but yeah anything is aprechiated at this point (i am desperate)

He seemed fairly normal in the video you mentioned, but I do broadly get what you mean by playing the defensive-offensive; the way that Bill’s people-pleaser traits can get run through an aggressive filter is fascinating. It’s hard to be edgy while also staying on peoples good sides, but he’s compelled to do both, and it seems to make him act strange sometimes. I’ve seen behavior like that a few times before, it’s like witnessing a negotiation where one person is really pushing for their side, with repressed anxiety feeding the pseudo-agression. I would put it somewhere between angling for his input to be given a chance (helper streak comes out strange for him sometimes) and unconscious worry around rejection. The video mostly seemed like him being mindful of not pissing off The Mob, though, which is a skill that most public figures need to master in some way.
Technically lying due to trauma could fall under the “Pathological liar” umbrella because it would have that deep psych component, but I haven’t seen enough to make that call. (Edit: I got cold feet on this line since sources were mixed, it's just not something that people get diagnosed with outside a bigger condition so it's an umbrella term.) I also haven’t seen enough / caught on to enough of these moments to spot if there’s a pattern in what he says and when he says it, but that’s something to keep an eye out for. Is there generally an effect/emotion that he’s looking to create, or is it the simple fun of fooling people? Who does he lie to the most? He might just be a trickster, but these things are sometimes layered. (Things I would keep a special eye out for is lying to make others more sympathetic to him, that can sometimes be a form of asking for help without having to ask or risking rejection in unhealthy Twos.)
The dissociation is interesting because on one hand Bill suffered with it uniquely in the way that it affected him, but it could be both his psyche and the situation together. It wouldn’t surprise me if more cases of people blowing up quick going forward had that feeling of unreality, where the sudden lack of adjustment period knocks people off balance and they don’t have the time to steady themselves again. It’s common to hear “It was an out of body experience, it didn’t feel real” in kind of a passing way when people talk about big changes, but if you think about it those are dissociative concepts, people not integrating the new reality fully. If he was already predisposed to dissociation, it might have thrown gas on the fire for him.
I feel like I come off as harsh on Bill because of the ways he usually comes up in conversation, but I think a lot of people share the sentiment of not only liking him but wanting to like him. I'm hoping that he'll be able to get his feet underneath him in the new year because I do want him to do well.

i’m baaaaack..
hello, friends! i’m back and better than ever. not much is new. my laptop that i have always loved/dreamed of is seriously fucking up. the screen is going crazy, and i can’t find a place that will fix it for under $450 (except best buy, so i have an appt with them this weekend). idk why, but it’s seriously stressing me out. i’ve been completely off the rails about it, obsessing over finding a good deal and calling people. for some reason i feel an attachment to it though because it’s extremely expensive, and my mom got it for me for my college graduation... it’s honestly probably smarter to sell this one that’s malfunctioning and get a new one, but i don’t really want to. when i say i had dreams about owning a macbook one day, i am not lying. this is my favorite thing ever, so i’m so sad that the screen is broken/breaking (i don’t really know). luckily, it’s super on and off right now, which makes me slightly hopeful. i can deal with a little mess up, but when it’s completely covered in random red squares, that shit stresses me df out.
other than this very annoying event, nothing else is new...at all. i am a little worried that in just under 2 months, i am completely on my own when it comes to car/health insurance, but let’s face one battle at a time. lol...i’ve also been looking into phone plans/new phones because mine is probably on its last limb, but that’s on the back burner. one thing at a time!
oh shit...well i did get new roommates and a new bf (if i haven’t discussed this previously lol)
the first roommate to move in was alyssa, and although she’s incredibly loud when doing things around the house and has no concept of leaving me alone even when my door is closed, she’s been fine thus far. she also unplugs everything in the house at all times, which gets a little bothersome when trying to use things. she’s actually stomping around upstairs now :-))))
my other roommate claire is totally fine. she’s a little more wild than i am, but we get along great. it’s probably because she’s always working and never home. i can’t complain at all though.
i’ve also moved down into the master bedroom of my townhouse. yes, the SAME townhouse that i love so much at the beach. i gave up on school, which makes me sad deep down. it’s because it was INCREDIBLY hard to do a full time job and school. i literally have no fucking idea what i’m doing. probably just being a dental office receptionist for the rest of my life? couldn’t tell you.
shaqy and i (my bf) are great! we never fight and it’s probably the least toxic relationship i’ve ever been in. he doesn’t entertain my toxic bs, but at the same time, i just sometimes feel very unheard by him. he’s never understanding of how i’m feeling as far as anxiety goes. hmm..maybe my new health insurance will include mental health if that’s not too expensive lol. i need a therapist.
okay anyways, my laptop is going ape shit again, so i’m blowing this popsicle stand. not sure when next time is, but until next time...thanks for always being here to get it all out whenever i need it. xoxoxo

had the most bizarre dream
tw: gun violence
So I was at work, specifically my current job and they called me to interview a guy with another coworker on my team, one coworker on another team, my manager and and some of the tech leadership (cto and a vp). It was a guy that the manager knew and who was described as an entrepreneur.
So I ask the first question which is 'Can you introduce yourself'?
And he is like 'Wrong question!' and goes into this whole speech about canned questions and how they don't tell anyone anything. The energy in the room was immediately frosty cause it was so random and out there. Like I know he wanted to show off as like a go getter but like, dude it's a self introduction that's your time to make yourself look good. But I was like ok, 'can you tell me about yourself and your technical background'.
He decided to answer that question talking about his life story and specifically not saying anything about tech until the very end when he mentions that he making iphone applications using C#.
C# not a language used in our current tech stack so I followed up with 'I want you to tell me how you would approach an unfamiliar codebase in a language you didn't have a lot of experience with.'
And while he was answering that, the cowoker who wasn't on my team whispered in my ear that his previous answer was kinda shit for various reasons that I can't specifically remember (probably a wrong reason my brain made up because you can make ios apps with C#)
So I try to hand it off to the VPs like "ok, I'll let so and so ask you some questions'. And then there is a silence when the VP just kind of pauses, looking at the guy being interviewed and he sighs and goes. "Ok, we're done here."
Which is a wild ending but I was already like 'fuck this guy' from jump because who gives you attitude over wanting an introduction, like this is 101 interview type of stuff. And I was lowkey glad that everyone else was turned off because sometimes people (men) like that kinda overly aggressive, motivational speaker bs.
So the guy is walked out, and my coworker is like 'You haven't seen anything yet, you just caught the tail end of the trainwreck, we haven't passed anyone today'.
And before I could say anything there's a commotion at the door, and it's the guy who failed the interview and he has a hand gun. I'm near a desk and immediately just fall to the ground hoping not to catch the guy's eye as a target. So basically everyone is jumping on him and trying to get the gun out of his hands. He gets a few shots off, but doesn't hit anyone, and they do manage to get the gun out of his hands.
And finally I'm like like 'ok, what the actual fuck brain' and woke up.
Like what the fuck, but the fact that it was so vivid and the details so recent in time is just proof that work has been stressing me out.
I want worried about taking time off because i have to take of a lot of time to go to my grandmother's funeral and the family had already planned on a vacation so I plan on taking a lot of time off the first half of the year. But honestly now I feel like 'fuck it, i need a break' lol.

Hey, Sojiro? Is there any reason in your restaurant, which seats 17 people (23, if you want to squeeze three people on each side of the booth), you have THREE coffee kettles and two tea kettles??? I understand having multiple kettles for tea because the tea itself is kept inside and two customers wanting different types of tea isn’t unreasonable, but you make your coffee with a syphon? Those coffee kettles are used for pour over?? I don’t think you NEED to pour over for syphon coffee? Those kettles just have hot water in them? Why do you need THREE?

This is a cruel and vicious attack!!! I think I would have to go with Jakey 🥺 I’ve spent my whole life having unrequited feelings for people, so I just can’t put myself through it again for Steve.
I think Jake is incredible at hacking and tech and safety measures, but he’s probably not as careful with his personal stuff or maybe he’s a little too trusting of his BFF 😉

The holiday season was practically in full swing, and for the first time in all the years you'd known Jake Jensen, you genuinely couldn't think of a gift for him. It had to be perfect. Jake's gifts for you were always exactly what you wanted or needed, and you prided yourself in your ability to choose quality presents on par with his.
This year, though, was proving impossible. Every time you came up with something, you found out he already owned it, did it, tried it...
So it was time to use Jake's expertise against him. What he didn't know wouldn't hurt him, right? At least, that's what you told yourself.
You knew he had been texting with his sister to find out if his niece was still into Descendants before he dropped some hard-earned cash on custom-made Mal and Evie costume replicas. Maybe he happened to mention some items that were on his own wish list in that thread. He had left his laptop at your house the night prior, having to leave suddenly for a short mission, granting you the perfect opportunity to sneak a peek at his messages.
Jake had taught you some basic hacking in the past, but before you tapped into that knowledge, you thought about his tips for creating simple yet secure passwords.

"Jake, I can't possibly remember a sequence of 19 numbers and symbols. That's ridiculous."
He chuckled, giving you that toothy grin that made your heart beat just a little bit faster (though you would never admit it). "You don't have to, bub. You're not securing nuclear codes."
He helped himself to your bag of chips sitting on the coffee table while you chewed on your lip, brain about to explode while thinking of a password for your new online banking account.
"Okay, here's what I do when I'm putting a password on something. Think of someone or something close to you, not necessarily immediate family or a pet because those could be too obvious. Capitalize a random letter in the name. Maybe use a middle name? Add numbers that are significant to you, but again, not the first thing someone would think of when they think of you. Switch letters for symbols." He talked about this as if it were common sense. "Just make sure it all means something to you so you remember it."
He became so much more animated when talking about anything related to his work. The way he talked with his hands and raised his eyebrows was simply adorable, reminding you of when you were kids in his treehouse, discussing whatever book you were reading together. He was your first crush, but then he kissed Anna Mae Waterloo when you were 12 and you tried to let it go.
"Y/N? You still with me? I went overboard, didn't I?"
You shook your head, coming back to your senses. "Not at all. Maybe you should just come up with one for me?" He huffed at you, but his eyes were playful. "Please, bubba?"
"That's it!" He jumped up from his seat and sat next to you on the couch, the warmth radiating from his side familiar and comforting. "You call me bubba."
You looked at him, cocking your head like a confused puppy. "Okay..."
"How's this?" He took your laptop and typed: bu88A321!
"The first part is bubba, but I replaced the middle Bs with 8s. We always spend New Year's Eve together, so that's the 3, 2, 1... random exclamation point to meet the symbol requirement."
You smiled at him in wonder at the way his brain worked, tiny butterflies taking up residence in your belly at the implication that you meant that much to each other.
"You're a genius, Jake Jensen."

"Okay, here we go." You cracked your knuckles, albeit pathetically, and got to work, knowing you only had a few attempts before you were locked out of the system for 60 minutes.
Your first guess was his niece's name and birthday. Too obvious, you thought. Next was his sister's middle name and their old house number. "Damn it."
Tries three and four were unsuccessful, leaving you with one last chance. You remembered the advice he gave you, though, and tried your middle name, ending with the date of the day you met, your first day of first grade.
It worked.
Before you could process whether or not his password choice meant something, a text alert for a group message popped up on the screen.

Your heart started racing. It wasn't that you didn't have feelings for Jake. You definitely did when you were kids and again when you were in high school. They never really went away, but you'd been squashing them down for so long. Could you really be with him, knowing he left you hanging for literal decades? Did you really want him, or was it just convenient? You loved him more than anything, but what if it didn't work out? What if you lost him altogether?
"Honey, home, I'm high!"
Shit. Normally, you'd burst out laughing at his cheesy, dad-joke greeting, but you needed to hide the evidence of what you'd been up to while he was out.
"Fuckfuckfuckityfuck," you hissed, trying to shut down his computer properly. As your shitty luck would have it, though, Jake walked in the room and saw what you had just seen.
"Oh, no." The smile fell from his face, and you wished you could pick it up and put it back on. He dropped his duffel bag from his shoulder, groaning as he ran a hand over his goatee. "What were you doing on my laptop, Y/N?"
You couldn't look at him, your head in your hands wishing you could disappear. "I wanted to look at your texts to see if you mentioned anything on your wish list because I was having a hard time figuring out what to get you. I didn't mean to see anything more than that. It was just... there. I'm sorry, Jake."
A tear rolled down your cheek before you could stop it, and of course Jake saw it. He rushed over, kneeling in front of you and gently placing his hands on your knees. "Hey, bub, look at me, okay?"
You shut your eyes as tight as you could stand to ward off the tears yet to fall before you looked at him, his eyes bright and hopeful, as always.
"I'm not angry. I'm impressed, really. You actually listened to me enough to guess my password." He smiled at you before taking one of your hands in his, running his thumb over your knuckles as he contemplated what to say next.
"I just wish you heard it from me instead of reading it like that. But now that you know, what do you think?"
You entwined your fingers with his and took a deep breath, considering your response.
"Jake, I'm flattered. Really, I am. But I guess I'm wondering where this is all coming from?" His head dipped a little, but he held your gaze, letting you know he was still listening to what you had to say.
"I've had a crush on you on and off since we were in the fifth grade. Maybe you didn't know the whole time, but you can't tell me you never knew. So why now?"
He exhaled, dropping his hands to his lap and rocking back onto his haunches. "I caught on after a while, but I didn't want to mess things up between us. You're my best friend, and I'd lose my mind without you." You could see him chewing the inside of his cheek as he gathered his thoughts.
"When I started feeling this way about you, I thought you would realize you deserved better than me, and it wouldn't work out. So I turned my attention to other people. I guess I hoped I'd be able to find someone else and it would make you look elsewhere, too. I'd rather keep you as a friend than not have you at all, you know?"
"Oh, I know." You laughed wistfully. "That's why I never said anything. It seems like we screwed up anyway, huh?"
He frowned, poking at the outside of your calf. "Did we? Did I?"
You sunk back into the couch, wanting nothing more than to bury yourself underneath the throw pillows.
"I don't think so. Not totally? I just- I don't know, bub."
"How about this?" He got up from the floor and plopped down next to you, like everything was just as it was half an hour ago. "I didn't buy your gift yet. You don't know what to get me. Let me take you on a date."
You smacked his bicep playfully, willing yourself not to think about how big it felt under your hand. "What's your logic, Jensen?"
"You give me permission to take you out as your gift to me. I pay for the date. Dinner and a movie, maybe? That can be my gift to you. If it doesn't feel right, we can just consider it a normal night together."
You looked over at him, unable to resist the puppy dog eyes he was giving you and had given you so many times before. "Come here, bubba."
He scooted closer to you, excitedly falling into your open arms and wrapping his own around you. "That does sound nice... Low pressure." You felt him squeeze you a bit tighter. "I feel like you're trying to hack your way into my heart."
He laughed and looked up at you, waggling his eyebrows. "Is it working?"
He gasped an ouch when you flicked his forehead with your finger. "It's not a yes, but it's not a no," you giggled.
He kissed your cheek before settling his face against your shoulder. "I can live with that."
