I just have vauge thoughts about Fandom, and Creator Notices, and Boundaries, and I'm just gonna ramble for a second here.
Okay, so you end up really liking a show or event to the point that you want to make something for it, generally you want to show it off. You want to share it with other people who like the show or event, and have them go !!!!!!!. That's fun, that's normal. We all want to be enthusiastic about [show/event] together. That's our starting point.
Enter social media and official actor/streamer/writer accounts.
Now fan artists, a good portion of the time, can make their art and then thanks to the wonders of social media, they can go straight up to the actual people who made the show and show their art, and have them go !!!!, and get the actual creators to like it. Maybe not if they're drawing hard gore or NSFW, but if you're drawing a soft canon family moment, or a cyberpunk au, or behind the scenes look illuminated, or kick-ass character design, you can get a creator notice.
Fan writers, by and large, do not get creator notices. This is because looking at art takes two seconds, and reading a fic takes between ten minutes to ten hours. Creators can be out there scrolling art in a way that most of them, frankly, do not have the time to devote to Ao3 searches sorted by kudos. And I think among writers there's a little bit of a sense that that's unfair, and writing is just as much as art as visual art is, so we should be getting creator notices, and we should all act as though we might get a creator notice at any time. On all platforms. Cause what we're doing is real art, right? And we all saw the art get retweeted?
And this sense that creator notices— cause we've all seen them happen with art— spreads until we all think that they could happen at any time. Thanks to the wonders of social media. And very rapidly, the "you can get a creator notice" turns into "the highest honour is a creator notice", and we're all gunning for that, and you SHOULD be gunning for that. You should be looking for the creator to weigh in on your art. You should make sure that there's nothing in your work that the creator doesn't like. If you're an artist, you shouldn't be playing with gender in your art, or draw them being tortured, or anythign NSFW, and if you're a writer, you need to make sure that you don't have anything "weird" in your writing. In practice, let's be honest, this just turns into demonizing NSFW work and saying that anything we don't like is NSFW. Looking at you the "you can't draw the streamers with boobs" discourse.
Anyways, I think going after creator notices is a bad idea for many reasons— a, let them rest, b, bad atmosphere for the fandom, c, let's be honest, an awful lot of fandom stuff is weird from the outside. Let it stay in the fandom.
First thing is like, there are only so many hours in a day. Fan artists can tag their people but it's SO much of a huge and rude demand on someone's time to ask them to read your fic and tell you if it's good. That's the request you make cautiously to your beta reader, and then everybody else on this planet earth gets to opt in to your work. Do not TTS stories to people, do not hand them copies at cons, like— if they want to find it they can find it.
Second thing, creator notices hovering over the fandom like a sword is not a good attitude for creativity. Fan work is supposed to be transformative, it's about taking the original work and going "oh but what if they didn't die" and "what if they lived in space" and "what if they were a family" and "what if they kissed". Gunning towards a creator notice at all times takes you from an independent person following your creativity to a contractor working under someone else's vision. All the time.
Trying to adhere to the source material isn't bad in essence, there's a spectrum of "how do you feel about canon" in fan work that ranges from "trying to hit all the same beats just with a twist" to straight up adversarial attacks, and all of that is fine and part of what fan works are. But if the only stuff that gets written is the stuff that we think the creator would approve of, a) that's stifling to both creativity and people who have an adversarial relationship with canon, you shouldn't start to be branded as "weird within the fandom" cause you're mad at a plot arc b) you very rapidly run into the issue where you're adhering to someone else's morals, and sometimes you don't agree with random person's morals. Anne McCaffrey famously said that fan works were okay as long as you didn't make any of the dragon riders gay. I guesture at you about that. Sometimes a creator is way more comfortable with NSFW stuff than you are, that doesn't mean you should feel forced to make NSFW stuff for their approval! You shouldn't have to 100% agree with someone's vision for an art piece to be able to roll up and go "yes but I think there should be like 50% more evicerations in here" and acting like the creators are the ultimate authority in fan spaces is a bad atmosphere for making fan works.
Sure, absolutely, showrunners get to decide canon. But the whole point of fandom is that sometimes I have a better vision for my story, and maybe I don't want to think about what the creator says at all. If I'm not gunning for the creator's approval, let me stay in my little circle with the creator blocked and adding more pregnancy to the QSMP, or whatever. Follow your bliss.
Third thing, like, okay. There has been a move in fan circles, and especially in mcyt circles, to say that if we just cut the NSFW stuff out, everything we're doing isn't weird, and the creators can look at it. I honestly think this is a failure of both imagination and perspective.
If you have written someone being vivisected, it's gonna be a trifle weird for the actor of that someone to come into contact with that. It is doubly weird if you're depicting a character who shares the same name as the actor. Is it bad to write the vivisection? No, this is fandom, we get to do terrible things to characters here, and that's not for the actors, that's for the audience of two hundred people who saw the words "Schlackity vivisection cannibalism necromancy" and said "clear my schedule, I know what I'm doing tonight". Awesome, continue with the gore.
And like, again, this isn't just NSFW. You can have something that is the fluffiest most platonic story in the world, and I'm saying look at me, look at me honestly, consider this; isn't it going to be just a little bit weird for a grown-ass man to open up a story where they've been aged down to four years old and they're lost and sad and their friends are their family and rescue them and there's cuddling and petting and snackies and pet names and they get their blanket and suck their thumb and take a nap. Look me in the eye and tell me that's not gonna be weird for an adult to read that about their character who shares their name. Okay? We're all on the same page here? Awesome. Is it bad to write kidfic? No. Kidfic rocks. I am your target audience, I am clicking through. I am leaving a keysmash comment. It is also, like, look at me here, focus— it's weird if you're outside the fandom. Platonic? Yes. for the actors/streamers? No. And that's because it's not FOR outsiders to the fandom, it's for the fandom. It's for people who rotate the characters so much that they go 'wouldn't it be sooooo cute if they were babies wouldn't it be adorable', it's not for the actual guys who had a meeting with an accountant today.
MCYT in particular has a horrible practice of saying that because everything has to be for the streamers, nothing can be NSFW unless they've approved it specifically, but somehow everything else is cool? I cannot express to you how much stuff I've read and enjoyed that even the smallest amount of thinking about should let you know that we keep that stuff away from the guys driving the block men around. Fine to write it, I say again, go for it. Please completely divorce yourself of the idea of a creator notice for it at the same time.
Should we show the streamers porn? No. We also should not show the streamers the thing where they're physically abusive parents of their friends. We should not show them the stuff where they're babies. We should not show them things where they're bigots. We should not show them things where they have hybrid instincts that tell them to kidnap someone. Really not sure about showing them a story where they're a cop who takes bribes. Like come on now. Really, as soon as you diverge from canon you're getting into stuff that's probably going to be weird for the crdeators. And that's why again, we don't show it to them, because it shouldn't be for them, it should be for the other people who are like "oh you're doing something fun with the character there, awesome" and click through. Weird for the creators, because it's for us.
Fandom should not be for for the creators. We can make stuff for the creators ocassionally, but I really think it's healthier for the fandom, and probably a lot less weird for the actors/streamers/writers, if we stop acting like what we make is all for them and should be shown to them. Some of it is just for us! That's fine! Make it for the people who have an rss feed for "autistic technoblade" on Ao3! Make it for the people who show up in your inbox asking about your "Philza gets arranged married to a different QSMP guy every week" au! ! Make it for the people who have three spellings of "charlie slimecicle" followed on Tumblr! Make it for the people making helsmit fancams! Make it for the fifteen people who suscribed to you after you posted that fic about the various wilbur bursonas kissing each other! Make it for the people who have Puffychu art saved to their phones! Make it for the fandom!
Leave the creators alone, make the fandom for the fans.

Cyberpunk and Solarpunk
Tumblr media
Someone wrote a comment in a retweet under my last post about solarpunk. About how maybe Cyberpunk is more suited to motivate us to work for a better future, than Solarpunk is. Because Cyberpunk can show us, how bad it can get, it can be a warning.
My issue is, that for the most part it isn't.
Now, don't get me wrong. I adore Cyberpunk. I basically grew up in Japanese Cyberpunk especially (which I like a lot more than Western Cyberpunk - but the reasons are to complex to discuss here). But I think for a plethora of reasons it does not work as a "warning".
Part of the reason is, that the dystopia of Cyberpunk is not that far away from reality anymore these days. Even in effective Cyberpunk, that really goes into the Late Stage Capitalism... It shows a stark divide between rich and poor, state violence, rule of coorporations, end of ecosystems. Yes, it is more heightened than our reality, but it is all that we see in our reality right now and... we are kinda getting used to it. We are getting used to all the horrible things happening right now, because we feel powerless and our minds do not know how else to deal with it. So they will just chuck it of as "normal".
The other reason, why I think, Cyberpunk fails, is, that it is objectively cool. And a lot of people, who consume Cyberpunk media, do not engage with the dystopia, but just with the power fantasy of being a cool street sam with a lot of awesome augmentations. They want Cyberpunk to be real, not to prevent it. Because to them, it is mostly a really darn cool aesthetic.
And a last reason is, that in the end Cyberpunk does not offer solutions. Half the point of the genre is a sort of hopelessness. In most Cyberpunk there is no big happy ending. The happy end is, that the characters get to survive. Maybe, just maybe, the characters manage to bring down one coorporation or at least one corrupt CEO. But the most the characters get, is, to survive and maybe kiss a love interest. The point of Cyberpunk is the hopelessness.
But you cannot build a better world from hopelessness.
Which is, why I see Solarpunk as so promising - and am at the same time afraid of it turning too much into an "aesthetics only" movement. Because Solarpunk at its core is about reclaiming optimism for the future. It is not (only) an art movement, but first and foremost a genre of both fiction and activism.
If you look into the Solarpunk Manifesto, you will find that, it is about optimism and rebellion against the current system. About the things, that we so desperately need right now.
It is supposed to offer those solutions, that Cyberpunk does not want to offer - or rather that Cyberpunk thinks are out of reach.
Because here is the thing about Solarpunk: Yes, it is Science Fiction, but a lot of the Science it presents is available today. If states were actually to invest in it, we could have clean energy by 2035. That is not unrealistic. Because the technology is here, we just need to use it.
Degrowth, which is another core tennent of Solarpunk, is also possible. And it does not need to mean "live bad", as so many publications try to make it out.
Building local communities, too, is possible. The reasons we lost local communities, is, that the current system we live under, does not want us to have those communities - because communities allow us to organize and retake our power.
Those tennents have been there in Solarpunk from the very beginning. And it is quite frankly frightening to see, how the movement gets kinda taken over by people, only being there for green aesthetics.
This is not meant to be escapism. At least not just that. It is supposed to be a root of activism.

something i think we as an art community need to get into the habit of doing
gonna be real here.
share artists work. especially work of smaller artists you come across. it helps, you don't understand.
Interact with them.
share their ocs with others
if they take requests/allow asks, ask and contribute something. come back every so often and give ideas
invest in their characters, or their artwork, their stories
retweet their art.
share their art in discord servers,
share thier art with your friends
comment on their work
draw fanart of their ocs
join their discord servers, talk a bit.
join their dtiys
share their commissions
i'm personally getting a little tired of seeing comments of people wishing they could do more, when there are always alternatives when you can support someone. I really feel like nowadays people forget that there are many many many different ways you can support someone that does not involve money.
I'm also personally more inclined to think that, if somebody is getting recommended from someone else, other people are willing to listen rather than the source sharing it themselves. Think about it, it's like finding a funny meme video. a show, a food you find it enjoyable, so you want to share it with others - so why not do the same with art you come across? It's the same sentiment. You're helping the person get out there, and get more eyes on their work, and if it's good enough to share to other people, other people [in my opinion] would be more likely to pay attention to it.
Simply sharing work so it allows more people to see it, can make the smallest of differences.
Leaving a comment on my work can mean the world, it shows how much you appreciate the art.
Not all compliments have to be something deep, you don't have to hyper analyze art to leave a nice, heartfelt comment.
All of these things are free, and I'm pretty sure on at least 90% of websites that allow you to share things, you have the ability to delete them, so it's not even permanent on your profile. You can always delete it later if you choose, but I really feel like people in general should get into the habit of sharing work that they like, talk about it more. There's so many different artists on this platform as well as many others that don't get the opportunity to be seen because people are not taking the initiative.
Because social media have all seemingly gone in the garbage lately, I really think that people should get into the habit of doing these things. Doing more than simply liking the post and continuing to scroll. If something catches your eye, I really think that you should be sharing it. If that character is pretty, considered drawing them something, a random change in pace wish somebody who may never ever receive fanart of any kind, getting something can make a difference.
---
tldr. i think people should get into the habit more of trying to support artists in ways that aren't monetary, especially smaller artistss they come across. I really feel like a lot of opportunities are not given to these small artists (giggles, me!) because people are not taking the initiative to share their work as opposed to popular artists. You can support people in ways that are not monetary, but I genuinely feel like a lot of these things on this list are often neglected or even forgot about because it's not something I tend to see normalized unless the artist is already well known.

Just wanted to let you know that the white-haired Sailor Moon-esque vampire girl pose that you retweeted on twitter is actually just two AI-generated images
It's getting really hard to tell with some of these, but one of the main tells is if you look at her left ear in the first picture, there's just a weird, completely unnatural fleshy bit that sticks out from where her ear should be, with the accompanying earring being way out the middle of her hair for no discernible reason. Her design also changes fairly drastically between the two images, with her collar pattern being completely different, all of her jewelry changes (her earrings aren't even a consistent design within the context of only the second image), the blood is a completely different style, her fangs are weirdly shaped and unnaturally spaced, and she doesn't really seem to have the meatball buns in the first image (which would be a really weird thing to exclude for what appears to be the same "scene"). Even her hand in the second image is doing the typical AI thing where one object melts into another. Her fingers are highly inconsistent in length (and joint structure) and also look like they're morphing into lipstick near her mouth. Even the hand itself is overly skinny like it's trying to simultaneously act as folds for her dress, which has the added side effect of unnaturally extending the thickness of her neck (specifically the small black edges on the left side of her hand because the left side of her neck should actually end roughly in the middle of her hand, based on the first image)
This isn't the first time I've seen these "old anime aesthetic" AI images, they've been cropping up a ton lately and they look convincing enough at a glance that most people just assume it was either some old anime that they never saw or an artist's replication of that era's vibe. Normally, the inconsistencies are a lot more noticeable when the scene involves background elements like cars, buildings, trees, etc, but they're still there even in more focused images like these. Gotta be extra careful when sharing things these days because it's only going to get worse, unfortunately
I support real artists, don’t worry! I’ve personally spent hundreds of dollars on art commissions lol. It is getting frustratingly hard to tell - please don’t take offense if I do accidentally repost something that is AI because it’s never intentional.

Hopefully the link works in the asks but the god damn hyprocrscy is just lovely.
Like Vivziepop acted like she didn't care that kids watched her shows but then changed her mind and constantly says you shouldnt watch Helluva if your underage then we have Brandon doing this shit. Plus the fandom attacks you if your a minor watching the show yet they are gonna praise this.
Like I read comments on a quote retweet where someone pointed out that make a wish kids wanted to see Deadpool 2 so Ryan Reynolds instead of showing kids an r rated movie made a PG13 cut like a normal person should
Also Brandon Rogers deals with 18+ content near damn exclusively so I would expect better of him. Like why are you celebrating that kids are being exposed to this content.
At least one of Viv's yesmen (I think it was Fake blond) when they found out about a kindergartner watching the show they were like "Jesus fucking christ..."
I expected a Spindlehorse crew member to pull this shit not the one person outside spindlehorse high up who seems like the most competent to do this.
Read more into the tweet:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok (sigh redthespian, I swear they're on Viv's bootlicking payroll) anyway I do agree that it was pretty hypocritical of Viv to at 1st say she doesn't care then to change her mind later but it was a good thing of her to backtrack and say minors shouldn't watch their stuff but it gives no right to the fandom or anyone to bully and harass minors that do watch (there has been MULTIPLE incidents of this happening in fandom) and Viv does nothing to address these incidents and yeah its not her job to police her fandom but when it involves minors who are so vulnerable on the internet as a grown up I expect that much from Viv to do because of how influential she is in her fandom, whatever she says goes.
I do expect that same attitude or even more from Brandon because out of all the helluvaboss creatives he seems like how you said anon the most competent to act accordingly in this kind of situation. I rarely see posts of him but I personally think he shouldn't have posted this pic on his insta at all. 1st that is a minor and as a creator that deals heavily in adult entertainment like helluva, his YT channel and comedy shows just don't posts pics of your minor fans on platforms its pretty logical why not to do this and 2nd even if its a minor fan and here I agree with Viv to treat the child with respect, kindness and to give them a positive experience from the creator's side but at least tell the minor hey good seeing you as a fan and all but you shouldn't watch our show ok, like a GROWN UP should say and don't post their pic (even if consent was granted by the guardian) just don't do it. Viv again is right on treating her with respect etc at the con and saying kids shouldn't watch but she's deflecting again with saying "its not our fault if they do watch", then why defend this pic it shouldn't have been posted in the 1st place.
Admit fault, this pic being posted by Brandon is bad taste he could've met with this minor fan at the con, be nice to her ect and then tell her she really shouldn't watch helluva boss (if she ignores thats fine) but its the grown up thing to do that in this situation and not post this pic, simple.
The problem in this situation is and why I hammered so much on it is that none of helluva boss creatives act like grown ups (Viv, Brandon now and Adam even). From what I've seen from Viv mostly is continuous deflection, not admitting fault in these situations, not stepping in when its serious situations (her fandom, big art accounts bullying/harassing minors) and not acting like a bloody grown up. Viv is 30 years old but acts like a child when it comes to these things, criticism etc. She's perceived by me to be in this weird state of mind where she thinks she doesn't have to take responsibility for minors watching her shows ect but it comes with the territory Viv. You can't prevent kids from watching helluva I get that but not stepping in when your fandom bullys them, when you see a minor in fandom/cons and say "hey you shouldn't watch helluva" or this incident now because it looks by Brandon posting this pic it sends the message that its ok for minors to be in fandom it goes against what Viv says of not encouraging kids to watch because if I was a kid and saw this pic I would think Viv and them is ok with minors in fandom. In all, the message perceived from a child and anyone seeing this pic is that they're ok with minors in fandom. This meet and greet could've been done without the pic being posted and none of this backlash would've happened.

A.K.I. Birthday Commentator Audio in SF6, a Rant, some Copium, and perhaps Additional F.A.N.G Content in Future DLC. LONG Post!!
A.K.I. Birthday Commentator Audio
From the sounds of it, I don’t think a lot of English speaking players use the commentator audio in SF6. If they did, they would’ve posted about the special commentary about A.K.I.’s birthday on Twitter. Even EventHubs didn’t mention about the special commentary:
For sure, Japanese players uses it:
Tumblr media
This is the English commentator audio, extracted by me:
Truth be told, I actually heard the English commentary version more than a month prior to A.K.I.’s birthday, so back in early October then. I extracted and search through audio files within the AKI patch. The time when I found it, I honestly thought that it’s already available in-game if you switch the commentary audio on, but that’s really not the case. This particular line can only be heard on A.K.I.’s birthday. Another thought that came to mind when I first listened to this audio was, “WHEN is AKI’s birthday?” A month later we all found out that it’s 11/11.
-RANT TIME-
Everything about that special birthday audio for AKI sounded nice and lovely until the part with “…she MAY end up killing him (FANG) herself.” I know it’s been foreshadowed in AKI’s World Tour dialogue and how FANG had to kill his closest Nguuhao brothers for his first assassin job in the Toxicity story, but damn, it’s a reminder that AKI’s happiness (and mine too 😭😭) MAY eventually have a grim ending. After listening to that audio, it prompted me to write these posts a long while ago:
I much prefer the Japanese commentator audio because it said that “AKI almost poisons FANG” rather than “she MAY end up killing him herself” like in the English one. It’s far less doom and gloom in the Japanese version. Plus, FANG is already immune to poison lol.
Honestly, I’m happy that “almost” no one heard the English commentator audio on AKI’s birthday and Eventhubs never even mentioned it. I can imagine the barrage of dumb comments from F.A.N.G haters wanting him dead. Come on, give A.K.I. a break on her birthday. Telling her to kill F.A.N.G, the most important person in her life, would make her truly upset.
-END RANT-
Now the Copium
Shortly after finding that audio, I kinda formed a headcanon-pseudo fanfic to make myself feel better. I don’t normally make these kinds of things because I generally just stick to canon…but also I lack creativity when it comes to story telling. Anyway, this was what I wrote:
“I hope FANG stays a coward. The day when AKI and FANG must face each other and FANG finds out that AKI finally surpasses him, he’ll plead for his life in front of AKI. AKI will say that she’d never want to kill him anyway and they could live happily together. FANG says he’ll do whatever AKI wishes. AKI says there’s no need and they should live as equals…but she has one request. The scene changes where AKI is in a Victorian style cafe and FANG is the sophisticated stylish butler with a monocle serving AKI tea and desserts. AKI claps in excitement like a little girl.”
And of course, I had to draw this idea because I thought it would be cute. A lot of people have seen it already on AKI’s birthday:
This was the result of making my little made-up scenario. The best thing about it was Street Fighter Official retweeted this art. It’s like they’re validating it or something lol. It’s kinda ironic really. Me hearing that birthday audio more than a month prior, and then me drawing my fantasy picture for AKI’s birthday and Street Fighter Official retweeting it. It feels like poetic justice. I know this is reaching here, but I think the social media staff saw it as AKI’s longing to have a truly happy moment with FANG. Perhaps to the staff that this image, my very own coping fantasy, closely aligns with what AKI truly wanted. It’s like I am A.K.I. or A.K.I. is me. Lol. There were better, more popular art that came out on her birthday, but they often leave out on what’s most dear to AKI. Though there were also a few birthday artworks where FANG is included…I don’t know why they weren’t retweeted and mine was. I don’t know. I’m just making conjectures on why my piece was chosen when there were much better ones that came out on AKI’s birthday.
Additional F.A.N.G Content in Future DLC
Anyway, speaking of how important F.A.N.G is, I think we’re going to see more of him in World Tour Mode when Ed DLC drops. Yes, it’s pretty obvious that he’s going to turn up later because of AKI’s arcade ending and FANG’s WT cutscene that has JP and Ed in it. But those aren’t the only reasons why FANG will come back. The same time I found out about the AKI commentator audio was also the time when I uncovered additional FANG audio. He only said a few lines in WT, but there are more lines that were not used in the game as of 11/15/2023. I extracted them all, both in English and Japanese.
ENGLISH
youtube
JAPANESE
youtube
I uploaded these audio clips on October 11, exactly one month before A.K.I.’s birthday. Go figure.
From the sounds of it, he has more varied reactions, some more missions for you to complete, and mentions M. Bison’s name twice in unknown contexts. I believe these voice lines will be utilized in later dlc, if not in the upcoming Ed release. I found the AKI birthday commentary audio long before her birthday was even announced, so I’m betting that we’ll hear these unused FANG voice lines in the future. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any battle voice lines for FANG, but perhaps in a future dlc he might be a fightable NPC?
If you’ve finished reading this, thanks for bearing with me lol.

Like, it's a bit funny when posts go around claiming Tumblr isn't as good for artists as other sites, or that it's on par with other sites bc artists are more prone to asking for interaction here than elsewhere. bc here's The Thing.
On pure numbers of usual engagement vs audience size (the # of interactions a post gets on average not including any spiders georgs), Tumblr is fucking Fantastic.
Here's how the math shakes out. On average an Account on a social media platform such as insta or twitter in late 2022 can expect around a 1-3% engagements on their posts. If the account has 100 followers 1-3 of those followers will in some way do something with that post, that's 'Like' 'Comment' or whatever the site equivalent of peer to peer sharing is (rebloging or retweeting).
in General a User is more likely to use what ever the lowest effort form of interaction on the site is more often than the higher effort ones, with a tier system of interactions naturally forming
on Tumblr those tiers are likes > reblogs > comments
The average user is more likely to like a post than reblog it and they are more likely to reblog than leave a comment, (we are collecting comments left in the comment tab, tags containing a comment, and reblogs with comment in the same umbrella they require about the same level of user effort but tag comments are technically lower effort than actual comments or rb with comment bc of them being the inside voice as some have put it. )
Those tiers are Really important. because on a more typical site, on an account that isn't specifically using click bait and outrage bait to well bait interactions, you expect a significant disparity between those tiers on the average post. This varries dramatically between sites but it's usually a 10 to 1 between steps when i have to listen to my coworkers talk about engagement for nth fucking hour that day. (Tumblr terms: 10 likes for every 1 reblog, 10 reblogs for every 1 comment, 100 likes for every 1 comment)
So on Tumblr account with (to make the math easier) 10,000 followers you would expect the Average post to have 150 notes (1.5% interaction rate)
Of those 150 notes the break down will normally look like 136 likes, 13 reblogs and a single comment. This post originally only used a 1% interaction rate bc it made the math easier, but with that Very common estimate, a Tumblr post with a hundred notes would have No comments.
Has that been your experience? Do you Commonly see or make posts that do those numbers? I don't. I have about 1.2k followers on this blog and the only posts that get 12 notes or less are personal, non content, or non currated posts. Posts that aren't what my blog is a bout and aren't what people follow this blog for. My actual completed art, when posted at not fuck off o'clock in the morning Very often 50+ notes with the rb to like ratio being closer to 1 rb for every 5 likes.
Beyond that, Tumblr not being heavily dictated by an algorithm and allowing users to use the low effort interactions more than once means posts have a Far longer shelf life. Art i posted over a year ago still gets notes because it was tagged appropriately and has been passed one blog to another giving more people the opportunity to then interact with it.
Having said that, I could Absolutely reach a wider audience and get more number go up juice by using a more algorithmically focused site. If i was willing to bend to the algorithm and Only post what lined up with it. Only made content that appealed to a wide base that could be tagged with the latest hotness and also ran my profile in the most algorithmically pleasing way.
because that what those sites end up doing. They force users and artists especially to conform to the algorithm. If you Want that Coveted 3% interaction rate. or Hell, maybe you want to dream big and get a 5% interaction rate, something some of my coworkers have gotten Actual raises for consistently achieving for clients before. If you want that, you best better be willing to sell your soul to a black box that's unknowable to users On Purpose.
Tumblr is fucking Fantastic for the average artist on a pure numbers front. Partially because there's no algorithm concentrating interactions by fucking with who sees your post and stacking the deck in a way that gets certain Algorithm Friendly content creators atypical interaction rates.
The reasons artists ask for reblogs and interactions here more is because it's Way easier to see and Feel the disparity inherent to a social media platform. Partially because likes don't significantly benefit the artist beyond giving them the warm fuzzies, at best it'll bump the post out of reverse chronological order on the dashboards of people who have best stuff first still turned on or who use the for you tab
It's Absolutely better to reblog folks work. It is a Massive help for smaller creators who are trying to grow their audiences because we can't use the algorithm to our advantage here. There isn't one to exploit, there's no combination of tags and posting time or text in the post that'll trick some ones and zeros into dumping it on a million peoples' dashes without paying actual money to promote the post to an almost random selection of users. So creators are completely reliant on their followers to spread their work, and that makes a Phenomenal interaction rate Feel bad because theres no layer of obfuscation between the users and how their content proliferates, there's no invisible hand pushing the scale one way or another.
anyways it was like 4 am when i started writing this, it is now almost 6am I'm not fucking checking or editing this, Source. Me. guy who has to work at a marketing company bc ' obnoxious and reclusive wizard ' isn't """"'a viable career'"""" anymore.

Commissions Open! (Slight Emergency)
Tumblr media
Howdy! I’m doin them commission type things again! I can do furries, ponies, anthro, whatever really! Slight emergency on these commissions as I’m currently dealing with having potentially covid (been out sick for 5 days straight and still goin’ :C) and I need to have money to be able to support me and my partner when they come flying over to my place!
My TOS and commission form can be found here: https://rainbowheartunicorn.carrd.co/#
You are also more than free to just DM me yourself if you would like a commission if that makes you feel more comfortable! I don’t bite! And I’m desperate! Haha! ha! ;w; I promise it’s ok to ask me questions, ask a lot of em at me! I won’t even get angry or disappointed if you change your mind, I know how it be! If my art style tickles your fancy now is not the time to be shy ( ˃̣̣̥ω˂̣̣̥ )
I’m pretty haggle-able so if you are hunkerin’ to score a slight discount on some commissions via ordering a few, having a simple character that could potentially cost less than normal, etc, feel free to throw ideas at me and I’ll be willing to work within your budget!
If you can’t afford anything then please please retweet (squinting at you, twitter newcomers. Retweets are important!! That’s how posts get seen!) it would really help me out a ton.
I can also do Chibis (at reduced prices), pixel art (website has more info), style matching, and more! Examples are on my website, come check it out!
Thanks!!

Are you an asshole or just a jerk to Straitfox? He barely knows you.
buddy.
these words, this sentence, that which i am typing to you, right now, is the first and only time i have ever said words to you. so it's really REALLY weird to me just how personally you're taking all of this.
first off, you ain't slick. at least change how your sentence ends if you're going to pretend to be somebody else.
Tumblr media
you know, i had you blocked on social media, but it was such a long while ago that the reason initially escaped me. but when you made the above comment on an FA upload, i thought that was just a super weird thing to do, so i went looking into the matter, and as it turns out, you in particular seem to follow, like, retweet, and interact with a lot of people and content that runs counter to my own morals and ideals. quite aggressively so, even! clearly, your posts and/or content came across my feed at some point, and i simply did not care to see it, so i took action for my own sake and got ahead of things by placing a block.
quite a normal thing to do on social media, by the way, you should try it sometime.
except, you did, apparently, which makes this whole thing even weirder considering you're going out of your way to try to mess with me for some reason??
Tumblr media
my personal rule is to curate my experience for my own needs, and that includes blocking people that i don't wanna see or interact with, especially if i already know it wouldn't go anywhere. that's called setting healthy boundaries, pardner.
but lo and behold - you pop up on my FA page, complimenting my art, while drawing attention to the fact that i'd blocked you before. so, after i did my research into the issue, i felt it necessary to take even further action to cement my boundaries in all of my respective spaces (because, somehow, i had a feeling you would try to get around it again. funny!) your pride seemingly couldn't handle that, so now you're reaching out to me via an Anonymous message on my barely-used decrepit art tumblr because you can't get to me any other way. all because of the fact that I, some random dude on the internet, who does not matter in the SLIGHTEST in the grand scheme of things, never said a solitary word to you before blocking you ONCE.
listen. this thing you're doing? weird and creepy. not just once, but twice, even??? frankly, ignoring my boundaries and doing whatever all of this is, is actual asshole behavior, brother. it ain't the guy curating his spaces and trying to just move on with his life, that's for sure.
just be an adult and stay in your corner, man. this ain't worth it. -I- ain't worth it. you're supposed to know better, anyway, you're OLDER than I am. you've had more time to learn these kinds of lessons than I have, so like. use 'em. please.
just leave the issue alone. what's it to you, anyway? you barely know me.

Anon who can’t draw here. Why do you think NSR and Psyconauts characters all look so queer(affectionate) and attractive? (Attractive as in top tier character design) i would like an opinion of an artist
Love you!
Well it all depends on the person looking I would say. Someone who is a bigot and likes these games would deny that any of them look queer. Others might say a character is horribly drawn if they aren't sexualized. And then some people sees a "bad" character design (one that seems to be universally hated) and still love it to bits.
However, I do think that a large portion of the eccentric-ism of each game, in both design form and storytelling form, is a huge factor of why "less normal" people like these games (so people who aren't cishet or neurotypical). Both games really play with shapes and colors along with darker topics (even if it's just implied). So already there will be a disproportionate amount of "not normal" people already in these fandom spaces.
That alone counts for a large portion of people seeing these characters as queer, which can affect the media as a whole as people who look up fanart/fic of these games are now seeing more queer headcanons or art that shows off things they didn't realize were subtly implied or referenced to in the game.
But also, with in-game reasons, I would say Psychonauts having a canonically gay couple does help make other characters look queer, or at least accepting of queerness (which helps people see those characters as some flavor of queer even if it's not fully implied or something). Then there's the fact that those games talk about mental illness, healing, getting support from your family, love, all things that a lot of queer and neurodivergent people want in media without it being made a joke or villainized. (Plus the added angst is something that really helps people connect and possibly project onto characters).
Similar reasons for NSR, where the game kinda promotes shipping in the sense of Sayu talking about love and May with 1010 (and all the retweets and shares from Metronomik being cool with ships) so already there will be people who ship queer relationships, which then get promoted by the game company, leading people to see this as a soft canon. And even though I think Eve is the only confirmed queer person (She's demisexual, but correct me if i'm wrong about the others being or not confirmed) there are still a lot of queer coding in these characters (one being Neon afraid to dance/not liking his body and wanting to make 1010 look more masculine, which can be seen as trans-coded, at least to me).
The story itself of NSR is also something that resonates with queer and neurodivergent people. It is about overcoming an oppressor, making amends with friends and family, learning how to communicate, dealing with mental illness as well. The story itself is a big factor of people liking this game, since gameplay can be lacking at times. The characters have depth but also allow for a LOT of manipulation in their story and behavior as they are not as fleshed out compared to like Psychonaut characters.
I am starting to lose focus. I probably have more to say about NSR but I'm gonna go into the design/visuals for now.
Design wise, the characters are unique. Psychonauts plays around with shapes really well, especially when constructing hair and facial proportions. And NSR, though a bit standard in how it presents bodies, still has unique silhouettes and character designs (especially with DJ and Mama), not to mention the colors are vibrant and not natural (psychonauts tries to stick in a more "realistic" color palette at least in the real world but still plays around with their colors).
So like, the attractiveness/top teir character design, comes from strong and unique proportions along with cohesive color design. Shape theory is also a really good thing that goes into character design. Like my favorite thing about NSR is how physically different Eve is, even though she is a human (supposedly) she is built differently to show how she feels like an outcast. And then you have characters like Helmut who, even though still fits in with the rest of the cast, is extremely big but still shows off how soft he can be instead of being intimidating with his size (also love the fact that he's probably the biggest extrovert and still has anxiety/panic attacks).
Even just the color of the characters is important. 1010 have super bright and saturated colors to them, but only one color each and black and white covers most of their body to give breathing room to their designs. As Sayu's phases progress, more and more colors appear, but all the colors are complimenting each other instead of fighting for dominance.
Looking just at Helmut, both mental world and character design. Lots of colors and shapes are being used, but nothing is fighting for dominance a lot of the time. You are still able to see where you need to go most of the time in the game, and Helmut's design has a breathing room for the eyes to rest on (such as the black of his coat and his face area).
So yeah, the combination of character design (visual and vocal) and the story really are the main contributing factors for a lot of these characters being well liked and either queer-coded or canonically queer. Hopefully this made sense, I basically just woke up so yeah lol.

Back to Tumblr and situation with Twitter
Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I made a last post on Tumblr and never posted anything. And there are reasons which I’ll tell here.
After 24th of February, everything change in my life as an artist and a person. In my country there is war that russia started. No, russia INVADED to my country and committed Genocide on Ukrainians (and still continue doing this!). For some time I couldn’t normally do things that I earlier did in peaceful time. I was afraid of my parents’ life and my sister’s, so I even did some preparations for situations if these “murderers” invade to city where I live.
After I calmed down a bit and was sure that everything is safe for now, I started to think about how I’d organize myself with drawing arts and where to post. For some time I tried to stay on Tumblr and  on Twitter at the same time. But after I met many amazing artists from Ukraine, I moved to Twitter because I thought that I found the right place and support. Don’t get me wrong, I had your support here, but last days, I felt like I didn’t do enough to get your support as an artist. Meeting with amazing people on Twitter gave me much inspiration for drawing and motivated me to stay strong. On Twitter we gathered together to help and support each other, even with promoting Ukrainian art by posting, liking and retweeting, and also sharing some Ukrainian culture. It was a wonderful feeling.
..... until one moment that caused the reason for me to make this post.
Maybe some of you know that the idiot, Elon Musk (I’ll call him idiot because he is!), decided to buy a Twitter and make some changes. And these changes will affect on us as artist but in very bad way. The one change that I remember (if I remember correctly) is that if you want to continue using the blue Verified badge on Twitter, you need to pay 8$ per month for it. Otherwise, your tweets will lost in algorithms or will be shadow banned (I don’t know if I wrote this correctly, so, you have right to correct me, thank you). These changes made a huge impact on us as artists who used Twitter as better alternative, or just place where we could share our artwork. And it’s not only about artists, but also some official charity accounts, or official funds whose tweets will not be noticing on Twitter. You can search for some articles about these changes, or read here: https://www.fastcompany.com/90804776/elon-musk-massive-changes-twitter-one-week
You can also watch this interview about Twitter changes (timestamp: 31:10): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7wUNMyK3Gs&t=1s
That is why I’ll come back to Tumblr and will stay here until situation improves. This situation really upsets me and others because I found many amazing artists from my country and they gave me a hope to continue with artwork. Some arts from Twitter I’ll post here and also probably will do an update for my pricelist of commissions. I’m sorry that I left you guys here and I hope that you’re safe and healthy. I don’t know what to add here because I think that it’s enough for this. I’ll still use Twitter, but only to see if anything changes (hope for good).
My Twitter: https://twitter.com/Jennyart626
Stay safe!
P.S.: Elon Musk, if you see this, you’re piece of shit!

I made a tutorial for CSP's monthly tips competition! I'll be showing how you can use correction layers and brushes you can get from their Assets page to spruce things up
Basically, how to turn a "normal" illustration to a weather-themed one!!
Btw they said that views and likes influence the winner selection process so I guess I'd appreciate it if y'all retweet or share this! You can def view the tutorial without an account, but idk if you need an account to be registered as a viewer
[Full illustrations and my thoughts and ramblings under the cut]

I've never joined a digital art competition. The only art competitions I've joined were when I was in primary school, so during my sem break I decided to just. Go for it. Also as much as I'd like to win $300-700, I *mostly* joined for other reasons
1. Wanted to do a big illustration, but didn't wanna accidentally spend 100 hours on it. Setting a deadline for myself doesn't work well because I know there's no serious consequences if I break my own deadline, so I signed myself up for an actual comp with an actual deadline
2. It's been a while since I've joined any kind of competition. So like. Eh
3. I've been wanting to do a tutorial!! I really like explaining my process because it's like. Infodumping I'm too intimidated by the editing process to do a YT video and if I don't get enough views I'd feel even more tired from all the work I did, so a typed format is better!
4. Besides the normal illustration, I think the rest of the edited versions would make for a good portfolio addition! I think concept artists and illustrators showcase art of the same setting in different atmospheres to demonstrate their flexibility in working

im on anon because im crypto but since i ever first started watching arcane and looked into his VA since i love silco and Saw how he acted online like wayyy too up and personal with the "fandom" but it pretty much consisted of young girls like me (22) or maybe even younger who were just so obsessed with him. I snapped out of it i had to remind myself and my friends he literally isnt silco and his voice can be done by literaly any man who can do a slight accent and sound old and dusty and ugly. anyway FUCK jason spisak.
i mostly just saw likes and nice little comments on and retweets of fan art which obviously isnt any red flag. i liked some of the video clips, i especially loved the drunk history of zaun. it was my favorite, he looked like a fun drunk but thats a bit ruined now, isnt it?
rip those reaction images, you did not age well.
nothing he posted was ever out of the ordinary to me either, upcoming conventions, signing stream dates, those stupid little positivity posts that your parents generation loves... apparently i missed all the silco x jinx stuff he liked though which is already gross but more disturbing that his young gf is a jinx cosplayer. certainly no connection there, right?
well, come to think of it, i do recall some obvious thirst trap selfies. specifically, i remember the one he posted on the floor and me being absolutely enamored with the beautiful hardwood. he was gunning hard for those "damn zaddy 🤩🤩🤩" comments. that probably should have been some sort of flag for me but i didnt mind. i know hes ugly but you... know me. unfortunately. i know, i know, im disappointed in me too. that hardwood floor though!
then there was the signing live stream clips ive seen where women ask for some slightly flirty things written, didnt really bother me. i admittedly enjoyed some of those lines so again, overlooked it, rationalized it. i only ever saw that sort of thing with silco and never any of the other characters he voices. i figured it was because arcane is for adults, i throw a caution flag to that but all in all everyone in the stream is an adult (or at least should be given the 18+ warning on the twitch channel) and as long as he didnt pull some bullshit outside of giving a customer what they want for a few bucks, it wasnt a huge concern. people do that all the time, gets them paid.
except, you know, it seems he did pull bullshit. so... rip! i have got to stop being so trusting that men behave like well adjusted individuals. silly me, i expect nothing and im always let down. lthe only guy i can think of who suddenly had a sizable fanbase dominated by young women and acted normally about it was bryan dechart but maybe im missing something there, who knows.
i heard mick wingert, the guy who voices heimerdinger (and unofficially, ghetsis in pokemon masters for context of the video this links to), does a very good silco impression!
anyway! thanks for coming to retrospective on jason spisak. whatever, look at this nice signed print i framed! *fucking shoots myself in the head*

I totally agree about what you said about the like-reblog ratio getting really bad. I personally think it's because people are just so used to simply looking and liking things then moving on. just like with instagram. that's just the way people are used to absorbing things that are not memes or funny relatable posts, which have the highest chance of getting shared.
if instagram got a reblog button, some people will use it but I think most will not, because they don't care enough or they don't want other people's things on their page. with twitter, like you said, things are more casual. people forget what you tweet/retweet two minutes later, so it's easier for people to get retweets (even though the ratio is still not good).
I just feel like there's not much that content creators can do, no matter how much we emphasize the importance of reblogs. Because sadly, that's just the way people use social media now.
YES, you’ve put it into words so well! thank you for expressing it so clearly. i think both the creators and non-creators of fandoms are equally as important to keep a community alive. we share our contents with people who wants to consume canon/fanon work, and it’s the encouragement from people willing to appreciate that hard work that motivates us to make more. it’s sad how normalized it is now for people to just… not do that anymore. and it’s frustrating because tumblr is a platform where reblogs ARE important to keep a blog alive, but for some reason people will always drift to memes and text posts instead of the fic, art or gifset that people worked hours on for free

thoughts on the nature of art
I think I'm starting to understand art in a way I've never understood it before. which is wild, as a 28 year old artist with an arts degree. I never realised I didn't understand it. I think because I was putting so much work into trying to understand it.
I was 24, sitting in the back of my aunt's car the first time I got an inkling I didn't understand it. She's a painter, and she was describing a painting series she was doing - still life studies of boulders, chunks of rock, that had been used by local miners to show off how fast they could bore a hole with a hand drill. A rock with a flat plane riddled with holes and scribblings in paint noting down times. My aunt said "I saw them and I was just fascinated, I just had to paint them." I was in the midst of a special honours course at university for literature, and I thought I was being clever when I said "I love it - it reminds me of your A&P show paintings from years ago. it's cool that you're still painting local industry showcase stuff" or something like that, i don't remember it was four years ago. She was confused, and she said "huh, I didn't draw that connection, but I'll tell you, that sounds like the kind of thing artists say after the fact, when someone makes them write about the art" I've always looked up to my aunt, to the way my mum tells me we're so similar in her mind, so I felt like I failed that conversation. In hindsight that was a perfectly normal conversation! But the moment stuck with me, and it stuck with me as a moment of misunderstanding why artists make art.
In university, my intertextual readings of art were seen as good- useful- correct- insightful. when learning to interact with artists, we're told "don't tell them if it reminds you of something else by another artist". For so long I thought that was just politeness. A quiet kindness on the part of the viewer who can so clearly see influence, and doesn't want the artist to think they're being called derivative.
As an artist whose primary artform has always been the written word, I've subjected myself again and again and again to podcasts/books/articles/essays about writing that gives it rules and says "you must, you must not, what are you saying, what are you telling people, you are telling people what to believe, you are telling them what to think, are you telling them the right things?"
And social media reinforces it. Art is for consumption, for the reader, for the viewer, the listener, the paying audience. The likes, the retweets, the clicks the shares the prestige the precious precious money.
And everything told me that art is for communication. And so I thought it was a way to communicate an IDEA the way an essay is. I read novels as essays, paintings as essays, sculptures as essays, poems as essays.
I guess it's clear to see why I never got poetry.
I've been playing roleplaying games for years. Listening to other people play them for years. The improvisation and the dice kept it entertainment for me, yes, something to be consumed, something for the likes, the clicks the engagement. I never thought of the playing of games as art. The podcast, yes, the written game, yes, but not the playing.
And I think I'm starting to get it.
this is a really long post. I'll continue. it's not for engagement or consumption, it's a product of the concept I'm trying to express
What I was told was that art was for communication. And I do think that's true. But it's not for communicating ideas (all the time), I'm realising now. It's for communicating thoughts. Expressing perspectives, exploring passageways of the insides of a brain. But it's not necessarily a conscious thought exercise either. sometimes the thought that is being communicated is "i like how these holes look in these rocks, and painting is my outlet for aesthetic pleasure", or "poetry is my outlet for fascination"
or, i guess, "essays are my outlet for introspective thought".
