#is the sheikah symbol inverted

Oh how DARE (/lh dw) you give me feelings ab the Yiga clan, I already love them enough, I would absolutely love to hear if you have more thoughts ab them and ever want to say!!
*kicks door open with an armful of Yiga Clan thoughts* I GOT YOU.
The Yiga Clan are descendants of Sheikah rune-crafters, who knew how to inscribe runes associated with a certain type of reality manipulation onto different surfaces. The guidance stones you see? Those are their works left remaining. When water collects at the tip of the guidance stone, it collects the effects of the runes before transferring them to the Sheikah Slate. However, the Yiga Clan have learned how to inscribe runes on their paper slips, which activates when the finger runs over the symbol of the inverted Eye. These cards help them with their traveler's guise and teleportation. Additionally, their windcleavers are inscribed with runes associated with wind manipulation, but the effects are dampened due to the rune's deterioration when used in battle repeatedly.
A Yiga's guise cannot work near a statue of Hylia. She unmasks all illusions. This is why not many of them can get into Kakariko Village; they're outed almost instantaneously. When Dorian left the Gerudo Highlands and met his wife, he knew his life was going to change, for better or for worse. He definitely thought worse when he was getting married though, since he was scared his illusion would drop before Hylia. However, the goddess, sensing his change of heart, actually made the illusion permanent. This makes him the first of his kind to be divinely redeemed. When he helps the Yiga again after his wife is killed, the roots of his air are darkened to black as a rebuke from the goddess, but they do not seep any further as she accounts for the fact he only sabotages the tribe for the life of his two children, as well as Impa and Paya. He covers the dark parts of his hair with his amigasa hat.
This next headcanon veers towards OC territory but it's to explain the lore behind Urbosa's hatred for the Yiga. To put it shortly, there was a Yiga woman who had once, while guised, seduced Urbosa's mother. She was deployed in Gerudo Town to acquire the Thunder Helm, with the idea that there were runes inscribed on the helm for electric resistance that could be used to leverage their efforts against the Hylian kingdom. Urbosa, a child at the time, had caught her in the act after a few months of courtship. She was very perceptive for her age, and immediately asked what the Yiga thought she was doing. The Yiga, despite her conflicting emotions, immediately resolved to kill her to avoid having any witnesses. But what she didn't realize was that Urbosa's mother had already seen everything. Swooping in, she shielded Urbosa, deflected the attack, and promptly electrocuted the Yiga. Whether the Yiga lives after the electrocution or not is up to you. I think it's another tragic love story either way! This experience leaves both Gerudo women feeling very, very conflicted and betrayed. For that reason, she calls the Yiga traitors.
Pikango is a Yiga informant. His paper slips are hidden behind the sheet on his canvas, and he uses them to teleport between stables periodically to gather intel about the Sheikah. He frequents the Dueling Peaks Stable out of all of them. What's interesting is that he's the first Yiga member to have been born in Kakariko and return despite the discoloration of his hair. This is why everyone is wary about telling Pikango about the location of the fairy fountain when he returned: most Sheikah who leave Kakariko for good turn out to be Yiga, and certainly none had ever come back before. Purah and Robbie are exceptions for obvious reasons. Pikango's hair is however, mostly white. Why? As I've mentioned before, it takes a while for a Sheikah's hair to turn black since it's based on their faith. I like to think that Pikango is carefully neutral about his opinions regarding Hylia. He helps the Yiga not necessarily as a "fuck you for not letting me have doubts about you" to Hylia, but because they helped him out when he was forced to leave his home. They have definitely tried to recruit him as a footsoldier but he probably admitted that he was not of the fighting type. So they got a different use out of him: spywork. With that deal, Pikango gets to live most of his life just travelling, while keeping an ear open for anything regarding Hyrule Castle, the nearby shrines, or the traveler clad in Hyrulean Blue.

Febuwhump day 10: killing in self-defense
Whumpee: Sky
Whump Rating: 5/10
TWs: mild violence, blood, murder, panic, vomiting
They were in Wild’s Hyrule, meandering in the general direction of a stable. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm and perfect. Gentle breezes ruffled healthy green grass, and dragonflies– Wild called them darners, but either way– zipped through the air, hovering peacefully over the ground.
Sky smiled up at… well, the sky. He closed his eyes, relishing the way the sun beat down on his skin. It reminded him of Skyloft, with the blue skies and the warm sun uninterrupted by clouds. Sky liked Wild’s Hyrule a lot.
A man was standing near the bridge, watching as they approached. Wild narrowed his eyes, tilting his head down so his hair covered his face. Maybe he recognized the person standing there?
“Hey! Aren’t you the hero?” The man shouted, grinning.
Wild lifted his head with a furious scowl. “No,” he spat, wrinkling his nose at the man. “Leave us alone.”
“Right, Link!” Sky watched as the man stepped to the side, squatting down slightly as his grin turned more wicked. “I will take your life!” He shouted. With a puff of smoke and paper scraps, a red, Hylian-like monster appeared, wearing a white mask with an inverted Sheikah symbol covering its face.
Sky, one of the closest people to the monster, wasted no time. Before the monster even had a chance to look at him, Sky was already aiming straight for its chest. The Master Sword sunk into flesh with ease, halting the monster’s attack as blood– red, so not infected– seeped from the fatal wound.
“SKY!” Wild screamed, eyes wide with horror.
Sky ripped the Master Sword out of the monster’s chest, letting it fall limp. “What? What’s going on?”
“It’s dead, Wild, what’s the problem?” Hyrule wondered, just as confused. He hummed, staring at the monster’s body. “Your aches look a lot different than mine.”
Wild shook his head, still shocked. “That’s a Yiga,” he explained. “They’re not… they’re evil, but not… they’re not monsters.”
“...What?” Sky felt his blood run cold as he stared at the body. “No. You don’t mean…”
Wild nodded. “I do.”
Sky dropped his beloved Master Sword, backing away in horror. He collapsed, vomiting into the perfect green grass. He had just killed a person. He was a murderer.
Much like the traveler, Sky had assumed– shouldn’t assume, never assume– that the thing attacking was a monster. Even if it had looked Hylian… no. That was a Hylian person that Sky had killed without a second thought.
The Skyloftian dry heaved, on his hands and knees in the grass. He had murdered an innocent– well, maybe not innocent, but certainly not deserving of death– person! Goddess, he was the monster!
“Sky, Sky, calm down,” Warriors soothed, grimacing. “You’re okay.”
“Warriors,” Sky shook his head, choking on a wet sob. “I killed him!”
The Captain cringed, patting Sky’s back. “It’s okay,” he repeated.
“It’s not! I didn’t- I didn’t know, Wars!” He sucked in frantic breaths, gripping Warriors’ tunic with both hands. “How would I have known? How would I-” He hiccuped, shaking his head. “Wars, I… I…”
“Sky.” Warriors sighed, grabbing both of the knight’s shoulders to ground him. “Listen to me. You didn’t know. You couldn’t’ve known. A lot of us would probably react the same way if we got ambushed like that.”
Wind sat down beside Sky, nodding. “Yeah. I mean, it was pretty awesome how quickly you took him down, too.”
“Wind!” Warriors hissed, shooing the teenager away. “Not helpful!”
“It’s fine,” Sky breathed, closing his eyes. “It’s fine; I’m fine. Let’s just…” He opened his eyes, staring up at the clear blue skies as he blinked tears away.
The beautiful weather felt more mocking than breathtaking, now. How could such terrible events occur on a day like this?
Warriors helped Sky up, and Twilight handed over the discarded Master Sword. Sky gagged, staring at the slick red blood that coated the end of the blade. Hylian blood. A Hylian he had killed.
Sick to his stomach, Sky weakly rubbed the blade in the grass– perfect no longer, lively green dampened by the soul-sucking red of Hylian blood– for once not caring for his beloved sword. He wasn’t sure if he could even stand to wield her again after this. After he had taken a life.
Legend stopped his attempts to remove the blood, silently offering a piece of cloth. Sky accepted it with trembling hands, returning the Vet’s solemn nod.
Four laid a hand on Sky’s back, pressing his lips into a thin smile. “You didn’t know,” he said simply. “You didn’t know.”
“It was just self-defense,” Twilight agreed, approaching the knight with a comforting smile. “Now we know, and it won’t happen again.”
Sky broke down, hugging both Four and Twilight close. He sobbed into the rancher’s shoulder, wetting the thick fur of his wolf pelt. “I’m so sorry,” he murmured, shaking his head. “I don’t want to be a murderer.”
“You’re not, you just…” Four trailed off, shrugging. “It was in self-defense. He attacked first, and you reacted. That’s all.”
“And I killed him,” Sky whispered, gripping Twilight’s tunic. “You saw, you all saw… I’m a monster.”
“No,” the rancher stated firmly. “No, Sky, you’re not. You could never be a monster.”
“I killed a man!”
“In self-defense!” The smithy added. “Which is legal, by the way. It’s more common than you’d think.”
Sky looked at Four miserably, shaking his head. “Doesn’t change the fact that I took a life.”
“It weighs on you,” Legend agreed, sighing. Sky turned to him with red rimmed eyes and skin stained with tears. “It’s not easy to forgive yourself, even when it’s unintentional.”
Sky nodded, both confused and upset by Legend’s insight. “Yeah… it’s a lot different than killing a monster.”
“It aches, doesn’t it?” The Veteran continued, now staring Sky down. “It’s a lot to carry, living with the reality of what you’ve done.” He glanced down at his hands, clenching his fists. “It never really goes away, either.” Legend sighed, closing his eyes.
“It’s terrible. It’s atrocious. It’s… beyond description,” the Skyloftian murmured, shaking his head. “How am I supposed to live with myself knowing what I’ve done?”
Legend shrugged. “You don’t get a choice.”
“You have us for support,” Twilight reminded. “We’ve got your back. It’ll be okay.”
“That guy did try to ambush a group of legendary heroes,” Four pointed out. “Any one of us could’ve done the same thing.”
Sky shrugged. “Maybe. I guess. I just… I feel so guilty, and I know he was evil, but…”
“Yeah,” Legend agreed, interrupting. “It’ll feel like that for a while. You learn to grow around it, though.”
“It’ll be okay,” Twilight added.
Four nodded. “We’ve all got you.”
“Thanks, guys,” Sky murmured, cracking the tiniest of smiles. “I don’t deserve you.”
Twilight slung an arm over the Skyloftian’s shoulder, pulling him in close. “You do. You’re a good person, Sky, and we love you.”
Sky smiled, leaning into his brother. “I love you guys too. Thank you.”

Yiga Spear WIP Update!
Tumblr media
So I talked about some things last time, and I did them!
Tumblr media
I figured out how to add callouts in Sketchup.
Tumblr media
The "Pupil" of the Yiga Eye is the pin holding the shaft to the spearhead. It's raised up a little bit above the rest of the emblem.
So I've got a few different ideas for the buttcap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One last thing...
Tumblr media
So a few scarce details on the wielder of this spear... If Sooga is the Right Hand of the Inverted Eye, then this guy is the Left Hand. He's primarily a magic user so the spear doubles as a magic staff (hence the crystal dangles).
The marks I've placed on the spearhead are placeholders for some engravings I'm planing on. I looked it up on the Zelda Wiki and the symbols that appear on the circle when Yiga teleport are Hylian Letters and are a ninjitsu reference. My plan was to put those symbols on the spearhead, but Hylian letters are way too complicated for me to even try in Sketchup. I might be able to pull off Sheikah letters instead, but there's apparently there's a downloadable font for Gerudo text, so I might download that and put the letters in the place in MS Paint. I'd rather have them on the model itself cause that way I can indent them or whatever, but I'll have to see how it goes.

TEARS OF THE KINGOM THEORY TIME
Okay so I just came home and legit have read nothing on tumblr of theories so if these aren’t new thoughts, sorry not sorry I’m too hyped to care!
MY THEORY IS THAT THE YIGA WERE ONCE THE GOOD GUYS AND THE SHEIKAH WERE BAD BUT THAT HISTORY HAS BEEN LOST TO TIME AND INVERTED!
I’ll go off below the cut bc pics and trailer spoilers
OKAY. I believe that the yiga were the initial representation of good, and the sheikah were evil. The sheikah created the divine beasts to wipe out the world, not to save it, while the yiga were trying to stop them. This is why Maz Koshia Is the baddest bitch in BOTW: it’s actually one of the original sheikah who were trying to kill everyone and is depicted in the mural. Zelda has the yiga eye because they were the good guys at that point in history. So In the final mural, she’s either teamed up with Hylia or ganon and is either attempting to save everyone from extinction, or causing it
Part 1: the eyes
This creature, to me, is either a huge bunny, blupee, or Hylia, so imma go with Hylia hahahaha but it doesn’t really matter. She has the inverted sheikah symbol for eyes, and it looks very Majora’s Mask-esq
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part 2: the pose
I’m sticking with my theory of twisting history, maz Koshia is doing this same thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part 3: the mural
Zelda and what looks to be like a ganon or a Hylia are United in a mural depicting the destruction of humans and the overtaking by darkness and evil. The only dead ones on the mural are hylians
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part 4: OOO LOOK THE GLIDER LOOKS LIKE THIS THING AND HAS NO RELEVANCE TO MY POINT BUT I LIKE IT

Whumptober 2022- Linked Keys Edition
Days 13/14- desperate measures/failed escape and dislocation (+ art/joke)
“Don’t buy bananas from random strangers”, Wild’s warning to the Chain when they first arrived in his Hyrule. Apparently that extended to banana bread as well. While resting at a stable and waiting for the others to return, a seemingly nice lady came by and offered them some of her homemade banana bread. It was surprisingly inexpensive, and it smelled so good, the boys couldn’t help but buy some. It was only later that Sky, Future, Wind, Paint, Ravio, and Mask realized the bread had been tainted with poison, leaving the boys drugged and allowing them to be easily kidnapped. Because the seven of them woke up some time after, tied up and thrown in a cell in some dimly lit underground area, decorated with red paper and an inverted sheikah symbol everywhere one looked; the symbol of the Yiga Clan, as Wild had explained long ago.
Only one thing was on everyone’s minds once they realized the situation they were in: escaping. The problem was, with the way the ropes were tied around their wrists and ankles, hands tightly bound behind their backs, it was nigh impossible to move. The Yiga clearly had enough experience with armed heroes (probably Wild) to know that if they wanted to effectively hold them hostage, they had to make certain that the hostages couldn’t try anything. Even Future’s pocketknife— while luckily not taken with the rest of their weapons— was tucked away out of reach inside the young hero’s left sneaker, and Hyrule’s magic had been seemingly wiped out by the poison in the bread, so they had no way of cutting or burning the ropes to get free, and no effective way of defending themselves afterwards either.
Or at least that was thought to be the case before the boys remembered a certain someone among their number who was an expert at tying and untying ropes: Wind. The young pirate was already attempting to undo his own restraints, having been taught how to escape from most bindings by Tetra in the event any member of her crew ran into trouble with other sailors. The problem was, this knot was one of the more complicated ones, and it was a lot more difficult when one’s hands were tied behind their back. He had to get out… He had to help his friends! But he couldn’t get his fingers around the knot. If he could just see what he was doing— if he could just get his hands at a different angle— maybe he could pull it off. But how could he do that without…
Hurting himself…
He wasn't looking forward to this. He knew it would hurt like hell, and best case scenario, he wouldn’t have full use of at least one of his arms for at least a few days or until Hyrule’s magic was replenished. But he didn’t see another option. The boys had already tried all other ways they could think of to get the ropes off. They were desperate, and Wind seemed to be the only one with an idea. But he would need help… He knew asking Sky or Hyrule to help him do this would be a hard no; in fact they would most likely try to stop him regardless. Paint and Ravio were also probably no’s, and while they probably could be convinced, Wind would never pull it off with the other two arguing against him. That left Future and Mask, who were also known for doing stupid things out of desperation and would probably be Wind’s best bet. He just hoped Future was big enough, because Mask definitely wouldn't be.
“Psst. Future. I need your help.” Wind whispered to the other teen, “I have a plan, but I can’t do it alone.”
“What do you need?” Future whispered back.
“I’m gonna lift my arms up and lean against the wall. I need you to slam into me as hard as you can. With luck, one or both of my shoulders will be dislocated and we’ll be able to get my arms over my head to where my hands are in front of me.” Wind told him. Future gave him a horrified look,
“You want me to—?! Why the hell would you ask me to do that?!”
“So I can untie the knots. Duh. I can’t do it from where I am now, I need to be able to see what I’m doing. Please, Future, this is our only option. The others would never agree to it, so I need your help. I’m not too excited about this either, but I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t necessary!” Future thought for a moment, but he couldn’t seem to think of a better solution either. He sighed in resignation.
“Fine. But I’m not gonna like it.”
“Neither am I. Let’s just get it over with.” Wind scooted back to where he was almost right up against the far wall. He lifted his bound arms as high as he could behind him, pressing them against the wall. Fuck, this was already painful.
“Want me to count down or–” Future asked. Wind quickly shook his head.
“No, just do it.”. Future nodded in understanding,
“Try not to scream.” He took a deep breath as he repositioned himself in preparation to body slam his friend.
“What the heck are you two doing?” Sky asked, heavy concern in his voice. Neither boy responded. Future was counting down in his head, now trying to prepare himself mentally for what he was about to do.
“Future…? Wind…? Answer the question please.” Hyrule spoke up in alarm.
“Something really stupid, that’ll hopefully get us out of here.” Wind confessed.
3…
2…
1…
A sickening pop was heard as Future launched himself against his friend, slamming his back into the wall. Wind’s vision blanked for a moment. He could manage one single coherent thought through the sheer agony that came from feeling his left shoulder be shoved out of its socket.
Don’t scream. Don't scream. Do. Not. Scream.
He bit his lip so hard in fighting this urge that he tasted blood. He wanted to pass out, or throw up, or both, especially with the sound of someone (was that Ravio?) retching at the sound.
"Shit! Wind, I'm so sorry!" Future cried.
"Wind! What was that?!" Hyrule demanded.
"I can… untie the ropes now…" Wind replied weakly. He blinked a few times, trying to get his vision to clear up. He could see the knot. He knew how to untie this one. It was just taking his fingers a little bit to respond to what his brain wanted them to do. But at last he managed it, even with his left shoulder practically immobile and screaming in pain.
"You're fucking insane, Sailor." Paint muttered once he saw a Wind had gotten his own restraints off.
"Here, get mine next. I'll help you with your shoulder." Hyrule said. Wind gave a dazed nod as Hyrule moved closer, allowing Wind to undo his ropes as well. Now that his own hands were free it was a bit easier, but still he had to hold back tears as he did. His shoulder hurt so fucking bad… It felt like a hot, serrated knife had been lodged into his bone (which unfortunately Wind did have experience with, during an incident with another group of pirates a while back).
“There we go. Okay, just hold still, Wind. Here, bite down on this.” Hyrule said as calmly as he could given the circumstances, as he removed one of the straps that normally held his sword and shield to his back, coiled it up, and handed it to Wind, “I’m not gonna lie to you, this is really gonna suck since I don’t have any potions or magic. But just try to tough it out, okay?” Wind nodded, leather strap tucked tightly between his teeth as Hyrule placed his hand against Wind’s displaced shoulder.
“On three, I’m gonna push it back into place. Keep biting down on that thing, it’ll help with the pain. One… Two…” Hyrule didn’t even wait until three before he gave a mighty push, popping Wind’s shoulder back into place. He had tried to keep his teeth clamped on the strap, but as another wave of pain washed over Wind, he felt it fall from his mouth as he gasped, feeling his head spin sickeningly before he blacked out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Wind?”
“Sailor, can you hear us?”
“Oh fuck, that hurt so fucking bad…”
“Yep, he’s back.” Future said.
“Good. Now we can get out of here.”
“Wait, but what about the rest of the—” Wind started to ask, sitting up so fast that Hyrule instinctively stuck a hand out behind him to catch him if he passed out again.
“I was able to get Future’s knife and cut the ropes while you were out. Figured that would be better than making you untie all of them.” the healer explained.
“Oh. Thanks.” Wind only just realized that his legs were free now too.
“Now we need to figure out now we’re going to get out of this place…” Paint muttered.
“Yes please, I really do not like enclosed spaces.” Sky agreed.
“You know… Wind, Mask, and I are all pretty small. I think some of us might be able to squeeze through the bars.” Future suggested, “But we’d need someone who can pick a lock.”
“Please, have you forgotten who you’re with? I’m a pirate. I could pick a lock in my sleep. Gonna need to borrow your knife, though, Future.” Wind held his hand out.
“Are you sure? Your arm—” Future started to ask, though still handing over the knife.
“It’s just a little sore. S’long as I don’t move my shoulder too much, I can manage. I think.” Wind winced slightly at the last part, but took the blade and approached the bars, sticking one leg through the gaps. Then an arm. He could just barely fit, but he could fit nonetheless, and he was able to slip through, “Gonna need someone to keep watch for those ninja guys while I’m out here.” He warned.
“I’ll watch your back.” Sky offered.
“Thanks Sky. With luck, I’ll have us all out before you know it.” Wind began fiddling with the lock, digging the point of Future’s knife inside as a series of small clicking sounds could be heard. About a minute later, the lock popped open, and the bars slid upwards to create an opening for the heroes to exit through. However, not even two seconds after the seven of them stepped out, a small whimper came from behind them, the voice belonging to Mask. The other five boys turned around to see a Yiga footsoldier holding a sharp, curved blade— a sickle— to Mask's throat. Mask was frozen in fear, tears streaming down his cheeks with his eyes shut tightly as if that could help him ignore his current predicament.
"Don't move!" The Yiga ordered, "Or I slit the little one's throat!"
"Let him go!" Sky demanded.
"Silence! You may have slain a god, Hero of the Skies. But you are in no position to make demands at the moment. Unless you wish to see this child's life cut short, I suggest you do as we say." Several other Yiga appeared, one grabbing ahold of Hyrule and one grabbing Wind, dragging him towards the one holding Mask, "You will get back in your cell, and we will take these three." The last, a Blademaster, stood behind the remaining four, shoving them back towards the cell as the three footsoldiers pulled the youngest two and the healer down the hallway.
"Stop! Where are you taking us?!" Wind demanded.
"Quiet, child!" The Yiga who had him by the arm thrust his knee into Wind's back, knocking him to the ground before roughly hoisting him back up to his feet by the back of his shirt and bandanna.
"According to Lord Nihrie, this one's blood could resurrect Ganon in his own time. I wonder if it might do the same for Calamity Ganon here…?"
"N-No! Please!" Hyrule begged.
"It doesn't matter if he can or can't. As long as we have these three, the others wouldn't dare try to escape again." The three boys were suddenly thrown into a different cell elsewhere in the hideout, the door slammed shut behind them.
"No funny business from you three either, got it? We'd hate to have to kill you before Lord Nihrie's assigned date of your execution." The Yiga's laugh faded away as they disappeared, leaving the three boys alone.
Guess who's back on her yiga husbands bullshit. Its me. Im back on my yiga husbands bullshit. And to celebrate I'm writing down my headcanons abt Yiga Clan Culture and a lil on Kohga and Sooga!!!
- All Yiga are required to wear their masks unless granted permission from those who may see. Typically, Yiga reserve their face for family and close friends to prevent betrayals. A big part of Yiga marriage traditions is when the newlyweds unmask eachother in private, but of course, some couples know the other's face long before marriage. Kohga and Sooga both revealed their faces to each other long ago, due to their extremely close bond.
- The masks they wear are not just for stealth. When every yiga come of age they make their own masks from scratch, to prove they are ready to fight for the clan. Each Yiga is to trek outside of the base and search for the materials necessary. The basis of the mask is wood, white paint, and red paint, but from there the options are limitless. The type of wood used for the mask is up to choice, so it can be as simple as going to chop first tree outside the clan or as meaningful as making the long trek to Hateno Village to harvest a tree near the Fairy Fountain. Every mask tells its own story, symbolizing the journey that led the user to the Yiga Clan. Kohga's Mask is made out of the wood from one of the dead cherry blossoms in the outer most fields of the Lost Woods, chosen due to the legendary nature of the Woods, being home to the Master Sword. His reasoning was to desecrate the home of the sword and turn one of its trees into a symbol of the Calamity. Sooga on the otherhand made his from a Palm tree by Lurelin Village, his home before the Yiga Clan.
- More about masks, those who have not yet made their Journey wear a cloth over their face with the Inverted Eye upon it.
- Yiga Clan don't have a set "religion". Many follow Hylia, but most fall more in line with the Eight Goddesses... mainly because the Clan is in an abandoned Eight Goddesses Temple. While its not a religion, most Yiga have adopted the practice of creating alters for and praying to their ancestors for luck and guidance.
- The Yiga, despite the appearance of having lost their connection to the technology that caused their split from the Sheikah, actually still have scientists. Not many, but enough to maintain and occasionally develop new technology. If given the chance, the Yiga Scientists would LOVE to study and pursue science alongside the Sheikah Scientists.
- The Yiga base can shift around and allow different trap doors and rooms to be accessed depending on the level of "danger" the Yiga Clan is in. If the likelihood of an attack is near, the Yiga Clan Hideout appears much smaller(like in BOTW), but has MANY trapdoors and hidden entrances to get to locations. If there is no danger to the Clan, the hideout remains more open(like in Age of Calamity)
- After the Calamity in the Age of Calamity timeline, the Yiga Clan Hideout becomes a small town... after the Sheikah and Gerudo assist in rebuilding the hideout. The Yiga dont allow outsiders within the physical hideout, but Karusa Valley has small shops and Yiga venders selling their wares for any traveller willing to buy.
- Kohga is one of the most revolutionary leaders of the Yiga Clan. He treats each member like family and spends the time to know each Yiga's name, able to identify them even through the mask.
- Sooga and Kohga frequently go out on day trips to "scope hot spots" to plant Yiga Clan assassins. Most of the time, Kohga gets distracted and ends up messing around instead, taking naps and just generally getting off topic.
His suit is mostly a light red with dark red wrapped around the ends of his legs, arms, hands, and feet. There are grey stripes on his upper arms and legs. His belts are black and grey, his mask is white with a red inverted on it, his hair is black, and his banana earring are a dark yellow.
Image 3:  A lineart reference sheet for Chaozrael's and LordSooga’s Sheikah OC Gregory in the same style as the one for Master Kohga. Greg is posing here, standing up straight with one hand raised in a wave. He wears a Sheikah outfit of a collared shirt tucked through a belt and puffed sleeves. Only one sleeve is on and the other half of the jacket is left to hang at his side. Under that, he wears a tight, sleeveless, turtleneck, long pants, and shoes with a short collar. His hair is pulled back in a bun with a Sheikah eye tattoo on his forehead and he has a strip of fabric tied around his wrists. His text reads "Gregory. He/Him." In a bulleted list under that it reads "Age: 40's-50's. Height: ~6'5". Position: Chief of the Sheikah. Just really trying his best. Kohga's impulse control."
Image 4: T he same page of Greg's reference sheet as the previous image but now with flat colors. He has medium brown skin, red eyes, and white hair. His jacket and pants are beige with a red stripe going down the sleeve of the jacket. The fabric of his belt and shirt are blue and the buckle of his belt, a Sheikah eye symbol, is a bronze color. His shoes are beige and bronze colored as well. He has some white hair and scars on his arms, and the tattoo on his forehead is blue.
Image 5:  A digitally painted, lineless painting of Kohga's sword. Here, there is a red sheath shown with silver metal ends decorated with the Yiga inverted eye symbol. There is also a red string to attach it to a belt. Next to it is a windcleaver, a long, katana like weapon with three holes running down the center of the blade. The handle is wrapped in red and black fabric and the hilt is circular with four curved arches coming off of it, like a throwing star. The hilt is also deocirated wit the Yiga inverted eye symbol. The blade is long and silver with a shining wave-like pattern that goes around the holes. It is labelled as the "Windcleaver he used to kill his mother".
Image 6:  Another of Kohga's sword digitally painted in the same style. This one is also flashier and more complicated. The sheath is red with gold on the ends, and there is a hole near the top of the sheath to accommodate spikes on the sword. The sheath itself is red with red and gold splotches decorating it and had a golden bar with a red string to attach it to belts. The sword is another long, katana-like sword with holes down the center of it. The handle of this one is wrapped in red fabric, and the hilt is golden. The hilt is a spikes circle that is hollow in the center, save where it attaches to the blade. The blade is darker and also has a wave-like pattern that follows the holes along with with, bronze colored spikes near the hilt. It is labelled "Original Windcleaver, passed from Master Kohga to Master Kohga."
Image 7:  A digitally painted, lineless painting of Greg's two kodachi's. One is more plain, with a bronze hilt and a handle that is wrapped in black and red fabric. There is a small Sheikah eye symbol edged into the straight blade. The second is more flashy and complex. Its hilt is golden with a delicate looking design etched into it and a small strip of red fabric tied to the end. The handle has purple fabric on it with a golden Sheikah eye embedded into it as well. The blade here is darker, more curved, and has accents of gold on it as well. "Passed down through family of the Sheikah Chief."
Image 8: A series of drawings of Kohga and Greg. In the first, Kohga is leaning an arm on Greg's head. He peaks down at him with the eye on his mask. Greg has his arms crossed, looking up at him with a slight smile. This one has the text "Dating in Secret" above it with a heart. Kohga also has the text "Commits the crimes" while Greg has the text "cannot stop him". Next is a bust shot of Greg and of Kohga. Greg is wearing a Sheikah straw hat. Kohga has just a red and black robe on with a red, tight, sleeveless turtle neck shirt on. Instead of his usual mask, he wears a sheet mask, which is a sheet of fabric tied around his face with the Yiga inverted eye symbol on it. He also wears the same banana earring and has his hair tied back in a braided bun. His text reads "Braided bun", "Shortened, scarred ears", "Sheet mask in the hideout, but see his face and die (except you Greg". The last his Kohga looking at a distressed Greg smugly saying "You know, technically we've BOTH committed high treason."
Yiga Clan Ground Rules
(thanks to @needs-to-stop-looking-at-yigas for answering my ask about rules and such. a lot of the stuff in here will be based on their answer)
masks must be on in common areas at all times, even when in casual uniform. masks can be taken off in bedrooms and baths only, because there is little to no chance of an outsider seeing your face
every yiga member must be armed with something at all times. This includes members who are not trained fighters. In cases of emergency, every yiga cl an member must be able to defend themselves. the go-to for non-fighters is a small, short blade much like Impa’s kodachi or an eightfold blade-like knife
when handling yiga property, every yiga member MUST wear gloves. no fingerprints or any identifiers are allowed on anything. this includes casual uniform.
despite actual hair color, every yiga fighter must have black hair when in fighting uniform. this can be achieved through dye or some level of disguise. true hair color can be worn in casual uniform.
every yiga member must know both hylian and sheikah spoken and written language. orders are given in both. every yiga must also be fluent in sheikah sign language. this allows for quiet communication that not many people can understand.
every yiga clan member must have a tattoo symbolizing their membership on their body. many of the live-in residents opt for tattoos of three triangles right under the eyes. the most common tattoo among all the members is the inverted eye somewhere on their body. extremely devout members will get the inverted eye tattooed on their forehead (like impa and paya’s sheikah symbol tattoo).
not every yiga is a fighter. in fact, most of them aren’t. it takes a big crew to keep such a large organized crime syndicate running. non-fighting jobs include: cooking, cleaning, inventory management, traveling trader (in disguise), bartender, mask making, uniform tailoring, medics, blacksmiths, fletchers, and the list goes on. yiga members who join disabled, are born disabled, or end up becoming disabled in battle will default to one of these occupations.
many of the fighting yiga’s jobs is to just be propaganda men. that is, the people you fight in botw disguised as hylians asking you to join. this job, much like a mall kiosk worker, is not a stranger to a lot of rejections. however, the most often-used tactic that works is setting up somewhere and covertly seeding out information about the yiga clan in well-populated areas. it was one of these propaganda men that got Master Kohga interested in joining in the first place.
many yiga are also spies, living in well-populated villages living normal lives. there are several set up in kakariko village and gerudo town to simply listen in on plans. several also live in castle town, close enough to the center of power to hear the rumors about plans of action and send them back to Master Kohga.
members with these occupations are not required to wear masks or cover their hands when doing regular tasks. however, they must use separate names from their Yiga names and cover their faces and bodies if they ever are at the Yiga hideout or conversing with Yiga members.
a lot of these rules and headcanons will influence art in the future. the traditional japanese outfit that kora is in on the ref sheet is what i mean by “casual uniform.” they’re still all coordinated and in yiga colors, but are not meant to be fought in.
excuse me hold on i didnt end up finishing skyward sword does demise not wield ghirahim in a proper sword form??? why is it degrading im picturing him fighting link just holding this petrified ghirahim-shaped club PLEASE elaborate
OH dude, no, me saying not a proper sword form is an act of snobbery. It is, in fact, technically a sword! It’s even KINDA COOL I GUESS conceptually, because it’s clearly “the master sword, except evil”, but the thing is it’s this, y’know, big meaty serrated chopper. This thing’s almost as large as Link’s entire body. A friend of mine referred to it as a “spiked oni club” and that description stuck in my head ever since.
I can see the appeal of a [that one fish from Spongebob voice] big! meaty! sword! but the fact of the matter is Ghirahim is pretty strongly and consistently characterized before then as valuing aesthetic elegance, precision, efficiency; the weapons he wills out of his power for his own use, while made of the same materials, have a lot more in common with Ganondorf’s Wind Waker swords than what Ghirahim himself turns into when Demise grabs him for the final boss fight.
Tumblr media
[image attached; Ghirahim’s sword form. image description: a large black sword isolated on a white background. The sword has a curving, pointed crossguard, a diamond-shaped ruby stone in the hilt, and some red filigree and an inverted triforce symbol (three triangles touching at the tips to create a larger triangle with an ‘empty space’ in the middle). The blade of the sword consists of three diamond-shaped segments, each with protruding spikes. It is a heavy weapon with a broad flat plane of a blade before tapering to the bronze-colored edges. the entirety of the blade is silhouetted in a red glow. end description.]
This very clearly has the look, to me, of a sword belonging to someone who lives by the statement of “when the whole world looks like nails to you, all you want is the biggest hammer”. It doesn’t have a pronounced cutting edge that would make use of the extra weight, nor is it particularly useful as a shield given how small it is to Demise and how he uses it. The spikes are threatening but not even positioned like a harpoon or arrowhead so Demise couldn’t, say, stab and then rip his sword out for maximum ouch.
So like, I find Ghirahim’s final form demeaning to him personally less because it’s a garbage sword and more because I feel like ideologically, Ghirahim is established as a very precise and careful person who is extremely dangerous for how efficient, tenacious, and creative he is, but his sword form makes it very clear the only thing Demise ever wanted for him wasn’t even the qualities that made him capable of resurrecting Demise in the first place.
Ghirahim is straight-up an absolute bastard to fight for the very reason that he’s a true ‘rival to Link’ in many ways. We finally get knocked off our high horse to realize just what those poor bokoblins and moblins we massacre our way through on the regular must feel having to deal with our shit- someone who is unbelievably light-footed, will tenderize you with projectiles before springing in for the kill from oblique angles or from behind. Also, nearly unique among Zelda antagonists, he wastes absolutely no time hiding or dawdling- we run into him on the front lines not because he’s been expecting us but usually because he has his own business in the same places we do. He’s dungeon-crawling!
And Demise is an evil god, and he lives up to his hype. That’s not remotely what I’m saying- he’s horrifying. But I think that it’s very clear that he’s weak in ways that both Ghirahim, and Ganondorf, are strong- in precision and creativity. You can even compare The Imprisoned as a more or less mind-scrambled Demise, to Calamity Ganon as a more or less mind-scrambled Ganondorf- one is a titanic and formidable beast but lumbering, only lazily puts out features and slightly more complicated strategies as its attempts to shuffle upstairs are thwarted- and the other is a hyper-detailed, all-terrain mobile, complicated attack pattern creature whose attempts to glue itself together and even recreate Ganondorf’s human face were aborted early and even then, it seems to have yanked together as much of itself as possible from ready-made sheikah tech parts.
And if anything this kinda works as more of a boast for Demise- it tells us Demise hasn’t needed to be particularly inventive, or cautious, or tenacious. I think it’s really interesting to compare/contrast Demise’s curse in Skyward Sword to Ganondorf’s in Ocarina of Time, because one is a deliberate metatextual shoutout to the other, but they have completely different tones. It’s like how different productions of Romeo and Juliet play Mercutio’s final speech- one might have him cheerfully joking around tonally until he suddenly drops dead and the other one does the whole thing in barely-contained screaming before he gets to A PLAGUE ON BOTH YOUR HOUSES.
a princess to her wedding to light.
drawn out for the wedding event of Nintendo-Girls on deviantart for june, 2018 ! started in may, achieved the 16th of june, 2018.    she is obviously going to marry zelda. you know it. i might draw zelda next, actually. or later. but to pair with her. either way, i tried to mesh Twili's and Hyrule's culture together in here, which wasn't easy, given that Twilis don't even have an actual culture shown clearly in the game ? but they've been hinted to be banished sheikahs, and i'm all for it, plus i think the gerudos and sheikahs were close too, if not the mingling as one culture once upon a time, so i don't know, i just thought it'd be neat to take a little of everything, respectfully. hence the recurring eye themes, and the black inverted triforce.    the leg prothesis ? it's because in twilight princess nobody bothered to model her a second leg, apparently. so. yeah, she got a prothesis, i say. maybe she had it prior to her imp-ification, and it didn't materialize, maybe it was a battle wound against xant, and she got the aid later. i don't know, but all work. disabled princess, still rocking it with her body and mind, unsurprisingly. she's beautiful. help me.    i think the Twilis would have a very great technology, an echo to the tech in breath of the wild, and perhaps even they could be the one sheikahs who had too good of resources and were banished by the hyrulian nobelty, because of their research. i think that could work, too.    the halo is because she is the princess of liiiiight, kind of ? but will be now. and like. symbolism. and she is kind of of a divine incarnation, like zelda ? but reverted, maybe. but not like hilda. ah. i need to draw hilda too.    aaand that's all i have to say ! i think. thanks for reading !!
Oh, what's this?! A fancy new spear for my Zelda fanfic, "The Realm Walker"?
Tumblr media
Close up of the business end.
Tumblr media
Is... Is that an inverted Sheikah Eye? Hm... I wonder what that's doing there?
Tumblr media
Close up of the buttacap. There's a magic crystal inside, for reasons.
Since TotK had to go and get rid of the Demon Carver weapon and I couldn't fulfill my simple dream of fusing one to a long stick to make a fancy spear, I just made my own damn Yiga spear!
The Yiga emblem is smaller than I'd like, but it's that size cause it's being used as the pin holding the shaft in place. Although, I could make the pin be the "pupil" of the eye and make the symbol bigger...
I might try to simplify the buttcap and and add two smaller magic crystals as danglely bits right by the head of the spear.
And that's about all I have to say about this! Enjoy!
You can’t really tell but I drew Mutton as that one enemy who wears a mask with an inverted Sheikah symbol in the NEW Zelda game.
If Mutton didn’t say anything I’d only know it was him because of his sword. There’s no face behind the mask. Mutton is just a black mist with two red glowing eyes.
He’s been dead for a long time and uh, let’s say Ganon brought him back and made him one of his cool new minions. He’s very tired and just wants to go back to sleep.
Let him rest !
And I drew Keat in the Twilight Princess outfit my friend designed. okay, i changed it a little bit. just a bit! I like drawing clothes.
Wait, why is HE in this drawing? oh! I think he’s supposed to help Mutton.
