🗝 I'm currently writing Victoria Darken, a part-comedy, part-horror, sapphic love story about a feral scientist in a city full of cryptids, set in the 1910s. 🗝

⚠️ My name is Ellis, but I also go by Corvus and Viktor because those are my personally-selected middle names and they go hard. ⚠️
☣️ I'm a baby punk, new to the subculture, and I'd love tips and band recs! ☣️
💉 I write my own music, and want to get into dollmaking and wig styling. 💉
🥩 My whole aesthetic is a combination of, like... rotting meat, mad-science-looking-radioactive stuff, and classic punk, so my blog is kind of styled like that. 🥩
☢️ I'm a big fan of a lot of things, but I don't like fandom culture just because of a long history of being bullied. ☢️

Tags I use:
Fnoof: this is how I tag FNaF-related posts. I also have "Link" for all of the Zelda franchise and "he head a cup" for Cuphead. I'm very sorry for being cringe about my favorite video games. It will happen again.
Link: We just explained this
He head a cup: we just explained this, too
VD stuff: me rambling about my webcomic
BP rambles: literally anything I said, in the tags or my own post, that I think is funny. There's some gems in there.
VD spoilers: this is, obviously, spoilers for my comic. Spoilers/gore/other stuff like that is always tagged with a simple tw tag.
Mother Corporation: this is my FNaF AU that I had to make because I couldn't bear to let one of the games of all time rot in a muddle of confusing plotlines and pixel-art character models when I could rewrite half the games on a whim. It's actually pretty good, and only about as canon-deviant as the books and stuff, but I'm aware it's cringe of me so you can filter that tag out if you want.
I love you platonically: positivity and mental health reminders
Summoning the mutuals: I'm tagging people in this post and it could be you.
Peace and love on planet punk rock: this has been a psa about what punk is (a subculture about self-expression, uplifting those smaller than you, and overthrowing bigotry) and what it is not (homophobia, racism, transphobia, etc)
Daily reminder to stay alive: all the posts from my "list to stay alive" queue. I could've made a sideblog, but those always take a long time to get going and I get hundreds of reblogs from friends here who needed it. I'm just glad to help people with them.
Ellis' sketchbook/Blackplaaague's sketchbook: art posts also uploaded on my sideblog @blackplaaaguesketchbook
Tumblr media
I'll keep adding new tags and updates as I get new interests and such. This blog is as fluid as I am.
Please keep in mind that, even though I do not have a 200-page DNI, hate, bullying, harassment, or prejudice of any kind is not allowed on this blog. In the tags, the comments, the reblogs, nothing. If you send hateful content to my mutuals and my blog, you're getting blocked on sight. This is a safe space.

What are some more specific things that you love to write?
Oooooh, what a fun question. OwO I'm actually having to think about this one and it wound up very long, but...
Weird/niche kinks, often not in an explicitly horny way. My naintaimori fics are good examples of this!
Emotional dependence, particularly the process of it developing. That moment where a character just breaks and gets painfully, pitifully attached is one I always look forward to in long fics.
Xenobiology. This one's a long-time fav. The Hybrid Au is a prime example of it... although I do tend to hold back on the xeno levels of the animal traits for fear of weirding people out.
Public humiliation. It's one of my personal favorite scenarios, but again, I worry about making it too weird. >w> There are soooo many forms it can take, and I love all of the potential nuances!
Genderswaps, particularly temporary ones happening to canon characters instead of a full Au. This one is especially fun when it involves dysphoria and/or exploring their new traits.
Slavery, in many forms. Pet Au is my most famous example, but this scenario has been my all-time favorite for years. Child soldiers, inhumane boarding schools, unethical test subjects, and Pet Au-style dehumanization are my top tropes!
Dehumanization in general, really. Characters not thinking of themselves as people is soooo good...
Kidnapping! This is just another personal kink, but I really love it. Either short-term or long-term captivity works.
Caretaking, especially toward characters who are some combination of incredibly traumatized, incredibly touch-starved, and incredibly unused to basic human kindness. Non-sexual intimacy overall is just really good.
Character studies/analysis. I can and will write entire fics just to get into someone's head, and I'll enjoy every second of it.
Non-sexual torture. Sure, horny forms of violence are good, but I have a special fondness for plain old cruelty, be it gorey or purely psychological. There are far worse things you can do to someone than rape, and dark fics seem to forget that.
Traumatized characters experiencing the first good thing in their life and having no idea how to respond to it.
Non-sexual age regression and/or Reader having a more parental role. I love a good non-romantic, non-sexual relationship dynamic, and this scenario is perfect for that!
One-sided relationships involving Reader. As an aroace author, I have a strong fondness for scenarios where the character is deeply in love/lust with Reader, but the feelings aren't mutual. This can and often does involve Reader still doing things to "humor" them.
On that note, harem-ish scenarios where multiple characters are fixated on Reader, and while Reader likes the characters enough to be indulging, they're not interested in an actual relationship. That one-sided simping and desperation are delightful...

YOURE ALSO IN A PARASOCIAL FRIENDSHIP WITH ME?/?:! i just laughed so hard i think if its mutual that just means we're friends 😭
ur so right though... there's something so special about online friends i feel like there should be a study done on it because why are these little people in my phone so important to me?
also the little research u have to do for some fics is actually so unserious like whenever i get ideas and i absolutely need to know something, i found that reddit is extremely helpful?? i will literally be in the trenches and going through rabbit holes because of how much Knowledge is on that website it literally changed my entire perspective on the platform bc what do you mean this isn't just a little playground for incels and is better than wikipedia, quora and youtube combined?
people either ask really good questions or the subreddits are Loaded with information, like me personally i'm a bit clueless and uncreative when it comes to world building any fantasy au and i always feel the need to base it off of reality in some way and As a result... i now know a lot more about demons/demonaultry than the average person probably should and to the point that it's scary 😭😭 i'm also kind of a really skittish person so it didn't help that i would research in the middle of the night when it was dark as hell so i felt like i was having my own: DO NOT READ R/DEMONAULTRYPRACTICES at 3AM 😱😱 moment.
i think the one (1) good thing i got out from my research though, was the history of lube and condoms for a medieval royalty au because it really made me think about how far we've come... the technological advancements humans have made is admirable — ml
REAALL I don’t know why but I somehow doubted that u would feel the same way so this was very validating—
ironically, tik tok has been helping SO much!? Bc u get to see a lot of niche content from people who really love the sport, and whenever I don’t know something it sends me to look it up— and I get new info! Also quora??? That helps so much like who knew
but ur just like me fr I would be so paranoid if I had to research paranormal stuff like that— my research on boxing and mma had me hesitating because my boys would be looking rough as hell after a fight 😭 like good lord why does this fighter have a literal laceration on their head
but that last fact???? That sounds so interesting I rlly do love how writing prompts people to find strange knowledge

as an autistic person, people who use tone indicators excessively always feel like they're talking down to or condescending me. I really feel like tumblr did that thing where it took something that maybe could've been useful for some disabled people and utterly ruined it and rendered it unusable lmao. like how tf am I supposed to remember 200+ niche microwords
I was just looking at the tone indicators stuff recently, actually, and I wondered the same thing. even just a basic list is really difficult to remember, and some of these lists are getting ridiculously long. I'm not sure what happened to just saying straight up if you're joking or not? or putting it in the tags of a post so people can check and see? if I make a post that's not immediately obvious as a joke (like it's satire or a fake headline or an exaggeration of current events or something) I'd generally tag it something like "not really but could you fucking imagine" or something similar. I can understand the need to confirm stuff like this, but everything else is just... I don't see why that couldn't be included in the post naturally lmao. like vagueing, for example. I've seen so many people just say "this isn't about anyone I know but..." or putting "not about mutuals" in the tags. there's stuff already in existence for this. communication is evolving online and it's been doing so for decades; the problem was finding its own workable solution, because it happened naturally, and natural courses are by default the most convenient. like a little linguistic desire path.
now you've got these huge lists coming in that are going to be a nightmare to remember, and some letter combinations already have multiple interpretations, and man. you want my honest opinion on this? it's going the way of content warnings and trigger warnings. something that used to be genuinely beneficial has been co-opted by people who use it primarily to virtue signal and show how sensitive and considerate they are; they've then blown it up into something completely unmanageable for the average person to remember, and when people refuse to do it or make a mistake, they then get to leap on them and do some more virtue signalling by acting like this person is some horribly malicious asshole they're calling out. once again something that was initially designed to be used in moderation to actually help disabled people has been commandeered by people only interested in making themselves look good.

how likely do you think us getting a s4 will be? at first i was excited, but the more time passes, the more i doubt that i'd enjoy it based on the little we've heard from bryan. i'm really not here for the unnecessary drama & continued manipulation or whatever it is he's implying. and also will being out of his mind frightens me a bit? like if it's something that hannibal can guide him through & stay by his side, i could possibly be here for it, but if it's something that breaks them apart again
(...) then i don't want it, haha. now that it finally seems they've found a way back to each other & can be happy. obviously, you can't predict the future, but what do you think s4 could look like based on the little we've heard so far? thank you kindly for answering!
Another ask: Realistically do you think there will be a S4 of Hannibal?
Another ask: Hi, I absolutely love your metas! Since it is super unlikely that we will ever be getting s4 of Hannibal (we are not getting it) - what would be its ideal plot for you? I would obviously love to see Hannibal and Will finally show their love to each other, but what would be an overall “ideal” plot for this season for you?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello! I hope you all don’t mind that I combined your asks since they are all related to S4.
The possibility of S4:
I don’t think it is likely that we are going to see S4. The strongest chances were at the very beginning, right after the cancellation, and later with Netflix revival. However, Bryan said that even after ‘Hannibal’ did well there, no one contacted him and no one showed interest. Considering that Bryan and Martha have been trying different networks for years, I think it’s safe to say that they are all aware of our show and they are just not interested.
I understand why. While ‘Hannibal’ has a very passionate fan-base, it’s still a niche show. It’s expensive, complex, and wildly misunderstood. Just look at the articles about it, read the official summaries of the show/episodes, check casual viewers’ reviews - 97% of them miss the point entirely. Reviving and marketing such a show would be a nightmare. Also, I don’t know what Bryan is pitching, exactly, but in my opinion, he doesn’t sound strong enough when he’s discussing the show’s future publicly. His ideas all seem very abstract, and it doesn’t look like he has an idea for S5 at all. Of course, he might be trying to avoid spoilers, but knowing how he works, I’m not so sure about that. He didn’t even know what kind of show he was doing after 'Hannibal’ was green-lit - he figured it out in the process. So, if he’s pitching the same abstract thing we’ve been hearing about, I’m not surprised there is a lack of interest.
Things might still change, but it doesn’t feel likely to me.
Reservations and My Ideal S4:
First anon, I agree with you entirely. When I finished watching the show, I was very excited for S4, but with years, this excitement turned into anxiety. I’m not thrilled with Bryan’s talk of Will being out of his mind, Hannibal’s grand manipulation, MP focus, absolutely every character being brought back for it, etc.
Here’s my idea of S4 based on all Bryan’s comments over the years: this is the most acceptable version I could think of.
As for my ideal version: I think one more season is the only thing we need, preferably a movie. Since there will be a time jump, Will and Hannibal should already be in pretty openly romantic relationship. They just start killing after lying low for years (Mads indicated this once). Will is figuring out his design, perhaps getting overly reckless occasionally, and Hannibal is there to guide him. They face a threat of Margot and Alana’s people going after them repeatedly, so after a while, they decide to strike back.
Honestly, I’m very vague on the ideas, I could accept pretty much everything as long as it is logical and consistent. Will being dark without any reservations and openly romantic as well as mutually devoted Hannigram are the only two major things that I definitely want to see because otherwise, S4 wouldn’t make sense to me. The remaining loose ends are Will living after his Becoming, him and Hannibal learning to be a team all the time, and Jack & Alana with Margot threat. I’d like for a potential S4 to address them and lead the characters to a satisfying conclusion. The specifics are irrelevant to me.

WIPs Rec List
dug out of the hillside by fairyhill (word count: 43,479 | rating: M | Jonmartin)
Martin Blackwood knew something was wrong with the Sims house, but he took the job as live-in nurse for Gertrude Robinson anyway. He didn't mean to find out about the hundreds of unopened letters addressed to Gertrude by a woman named Agnes Montague. He didn't mean to find out about the King Under The Hill or his consort, Peter Lukas. He didn't mean to find out about Gertrude’s missing grandson, Jon — and he certainly didn't mean to fall in love with him.
Keep Your Enemies Closer by fractured_mirror (words count: 12,697 | rating: T | Gen)
Killing Jonah Magnus hadn’t changed anything. Not for the world, at least. It had changed everything for Elias Bouchard. And now he's going to be the one to make a few changes.
What if...what if I combined my favorite niche genres of TMA fic into ONE fic, like one OG!Elias time travel fix-it fic, would that be f*cked up or what?
the Monster of Magnus Manor by Athina_Blaine, theshoutingslytherin (words: 22,932 | rating: M | Jonmartin)
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a man who wanted to save the world, and instead, nearly destroyed it.
Before he was forced to commit this great evil, the man fled— but the failed ritual inflicted him with a terrible curse, and he concealed himself inside a dark, lonesome manor. As the years passed and the solitude ate him, he never ventured to the outside world, ever again.
But that was alright. The man preferred it this way. For there remained not one person, living or dead, who was better for having known Jonathan Sims.
-
“Aren’t you lonely, Mister Blackwood?”
The Kingdom of the Blind by gaslightgallows (hearts_blood) (words: 76,397 | rating: M | Jonmartin)
There is a way for Jon to turn back the Change. To clear the slate, and see the world with fresh eyes. But for Jon - and for Martin - undoing the end of the world means changing not only themselves, but the rules of the game, hopefully for the better.
But they both know things don't work like that.
Like a Lighthouse, Call Me Home by arthureameslove (words: 16,400 | rating: M | Jonmartin, Peter/Martin (one-sided) | CW: noncon)
After the events of the Unknowing, Jon is furious to find Peter Lukas running the Institute, and even more so to find Lukas has sent one of his own to work down in the archives. But upon meeting Martin Blackwood, Jon finds himself drawn to him, against his better judgement. Blackwood's allegiances lie with Lukas, after all. Or so he thinks.
But when Blackwood offers a deal--mutually beneficial and far too good to be true, Jon accepts.
Thorned Beauty by Prim_the_Amazing (words: 8,441 | rating: unrated | Lonelyeyes)
There is a small, quaint town, and overlooking it is a hill. On top of that hill, is a vast, sprawling estate. It is an overgrown, abandoned thing, which is strange for how obviously beautiful and grand it once was. When people speak of it, they do so in hushed whispers, like they’re talking about a frightening story around a campfire. There’s a morbid history there, apparently.
Peter isn’t interested in learning it. What matters is that it is derelict enough for him to afford it with his new budget, there’s no neighbours around for miles, and most importantly of all, people avoid it like the plague due to said morbid history. He really appreciates that in a home. He buys it.

tagged by @divaivlia - it's been really nice talking Latin with you, so thanks :)
tagging @teabooksandsweets, @mjltranslations @marcus-tullius-cicerhoe
1) Why did you choos your URL?
I'm a big Star Trek fan and Picard's borgified character is called Locutus and says 'I am Locutus of Borg' which would translate as 'locutus sum' in Latin which, coincidentally (probably) means I have spoken so I thought it was kinda neat and combined my two interests
2) Any side blogs?
@cosmic-chelonian for all my Classic Who/All Creatures/Other Sci-fi or British TV musings
3) How long have you been on Tumblr?
Not long at all! Only since about December last year. Unfortunately that means many blogs for my niche interests are now no longer active :(
4) Do you have a queue tag?
No because I don't post often enough to use the queue!
5) Why did you start this blog in the first place?
Discovered Tumblr while searching for Dr Who memes. Discovered the #tagamemnon. Realised a Latin fandom actually existed. Decided that they were the perfect people to scream about Cicero to. Never looked back.
6) Why did you choose your icon?
I made it using the powers of Microsoft Powerpoint and Paint 3D (the fact that the latter actually exists makes me laugh). It's a borgified image of Cicero, the original locutor, one might say. It just made me laugh.
7)Why did you choose your header?
Combines Cicero my beloved and purple my beloved. I made it myself on Canva (I know, look at me with all my pro software!) I realise the words aren't all visible either on PC or on the app though so I think I need a new one.
8) How many mutuals do you have?
I mean it's not about the stats is it, but let's just say it's more than I ever hoped. (It's 14. 14 people are mad enough to follow me back. Thank you <3)
9) How many followers do you have? As of now, 67. 67 people listen to (/scroll past, it's up to them) me waxing lyrical about some guy who's been dead for 2000 years. Still in shock tbh. God, I love Tumblr.
10) How many do you follow?
57. Not loads, I know, but I mostly drift around in small fandoms. Most of the blogs I follow are on hiatus :(
11) Have you ever made a shitpost? Have I made a shit post? Yes. Without a doubt. But a shitpost? It's a different thing, apparently. So... no?
12) How long do you spend on Tumblr per day? No comment.
13) Did you ever have a fight with another blog? So far, everyone's been lovely to me, and I'm not in the habit of throwing punches without a reason. I mean, even if there were a reason, I'd probably just stand there and let them beat me up. Unless it was about something I cared about, like LGBT rights or whether Cicero is a splendid chappie (HE IS.)
14) How do you feel about 'you need to reblog this' posts? Shaming tactics are deplorable and can lead to the distribution of misinformation. I always do my research before I reblog something.
15) Do you like tag games?
I... I guess so. I mean, I'm doing one now. A lot of the time I don't know the answers though. I mean, what movies do I watch? I don't!
16) Do you like ask games? YES! Please talk to Cicero in my ask tab, he's getting very lonely :(
17) Which mutuals do you think are tumblr famous? Still don't believe that catullan and interretialia follow me!

2020 ~everything~ wrap
i finally have time to do all of the tag games that people have tagged me in over the past month or so! i cannot for the life of me remember who tagged me in which one, so i’m just putting ~everything~ in one huge post. if i tag you anywhere then consider it a standing invitation to do whichever of these you haven’t done :) in fact, this is me issuing a standing invite to any of my followers who wants to do it :) also, thank you all!
Creator Wrap: Favourite Works
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 (or so) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
this collection of philosophy quotes paired with thai bl series, (and its sequel) which is possibly my favourite thing i’ve ever made. for, uh, nerd reasons.
these gifted text post memes i made still make me laugh sometimes
this fic about green from 2gether, which i wrote in the notes app on my phone and published the same day. not my absolute best writing but i am very fond of it <3
i have a bunch fof friend zone dangerous area edits/shitposts which i like, but i’m particularly fond of my fzda as satire headlines (which now has a sequel!)
i also love my crisgood-walmart-lesbian post. i might send it in to gmmtv to try and convince them to do a crisgood-bffs spin-off
+ bonus: since i wrote this list i made this gifset (my first ever!) of jennie panhan in the shipper and i love her too much not to include her on here
+ extra nerdy bonus: this niche meme about Chinese philosophy, which still makes me crack up whenever I think about it
Favourite Creators/Follow Forever
i’ve completely lost track of who’s following who from which blog, so this is just going to be a haphazard, non-exhaustive list of people who i adore/admire/am vaguely intimidated by, mutuality be damned. maybe we talk all the time! maybe we’ve never interacted! maybe i am constantly there in ur tags... lurking... 👀... but if you’re on this list you have made me smile at least once this year and i love you for that alone <3
@wjmild kylie!! you make gifs of arm & tay & lee (separately or in various combinations) & the shipper & and kapook & random fluke pusit cameos & school rangers so i don’t have to <3 ilysm
@janeramida vianey, you have such impeccable taste in general, but your sizzy gifset in particular is so gorgeous it lives in my mind rent free
@applelapis bri, this post was a callout and i want you to know that it haunts me at night as i lie awake staring at the ceiling :((((( i hope you are happy
@gigiesarocha cata, i love it when you show up on my dash bc you have!! such taste!! also, every time you gif gigie i gain five years of life <3 pls continue doing the Good Work
@pvrrish eleni, i remeber legit thinking that this was an official poster when i first saw it, it’s so beautiful
@ahysopae juliette your khaithird fic is so good and it literally changed the way i think about khai (not an easy feat)
@kurosawadachi angel, whenever i think about grace’s speech i remember your gifset and get literal chills
@doctorbahnjit alexa, you have no right to be as funny as you are. your friend zone edits give me life
@khaotungthanawat sam, you’re probably sick of getting tagged in these lists by random strangers, but i just had to bc your gifsets are Pure Art
@tanwirapong roa, all your gifsets are so ✨iconic✨
faiza @asianmelodrama and rahul @petekaos! yours were the first two thai drama blogs i followed and for ages i lowkey thought of you as my fandom parents.
and some more blogs that make me happy: @curlykytta / @lee-thanat  / @fck-inspector-m / @pangwave / @tichawongtipkanon / @tawanv @kimmonv (violet istg i have spent more time this year trying to figure out how many blogs you have than i have spent admiring your gifsets. & i spend a lot of time admiring your gifsets) / @taytawan / @1akorn and @yihwas (and your radiant lovechild @lakornladies ofc) / @teh-ohaew / @vihokratanas (mel your gifsets are just so gorgeous) / @tootiredtoosadtooangry / @headcompletelyempty / @demiromanticmickey / and there are definitely more but my brain is a sieve so apologies if i’ve forgotten anyone!! i love you all!!
2020 HIGHLIGHTS ✨
rules: list your top 10 shows (bl or not) you watched in 2020 (doesn’t necessarily have to be shows that came out in 2020 though!)

my first thai drama, and even after all the amazing shows i’ve watched this year, it still has a special place in my heart. watching 2gether was the first time i’d ever seen a queer romcom that just... was. for me, by the simple fact of its being, 2gether was revolutionary. and then still2gether came along and took all the best things about the first season and gave us something beautiful and quiet and lovely and just proved to me, once and for all, that queer happiness doesn’t need to justify its own existence. there can be gay cuddles on the beach for no other reason than that we want them.
2. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN
Tumblr media
i don’t really have the words for this one but. it makes my heart so very soft.
3. FRIEND ZONE 2: DANGEROUS AREA
Tumblr media
season one was mindless fun because everyone was an absolute trashfire and it was hella cathartic to watch, but season 2... wow. i love it for so many reasons: it has messy and authentic queer rep; the characterisation is excellent and i somehow care about all of the characters; amazing women taking centre stage(!); a wlw relationship with lesbian, ace and bipolar rep; multiple interesting plotlines; actual character development; arm weerayut as a chaos gremlin... absolutely one of my favourites of 2020.
4. CHERRY MAGIC
Tumblr media
i don’t think i need to explain this one, which is fortunate, because i have no idea how exactly i’d describe the happy-warm-fuzzy-queer-seen-loving-affirmed-profound feeling that rises in my chest whenever i think about it.
5. THE GIFTED: GRADUATION
Tumblr media
confession: i liked season 2 more than season 1 (with the exception of the ending, which we don’t talk about). season 1 was enjoyable and interesting, but for me it was season 2 which made me love this series. it did some incredibly interesting and complicated things (even if it didn’t quite nail the landing): it pushed characters to the breaking point and wove so many layers into the story and questioned its own underlying themes. plus, watching it alongside everyone in the fandom made it 200% better. i love all of you and i love this show. egg girl 5eva.
6. THE SHIPPER
Tumblr media
i 100% understand why so many people didn’t like this show, or found it problematic, but through some fluke it absolutely worked for me (even the ending). one day i will write an essay explaining my rationale, but for now i’ll just say that it’s one of my favourite shows about adolescence and queerness and identity and compassion and friendship and love that i’ve ever watched.
7. YYY
Tumblr media
this series is absolutely off its rocker, and it somehow managed to be one of the most affirming shows i’ve watched. it shouldn’t have worked by it did, and i love it so much.
8. 3 WILL BE FREE
Tumblr media
absolutely iconic. amazing plot, stunning visuals, great characters, canon polyamory, jennie being incredible... what a series.
9. MANNER OF DEATH
Tumblr media
i love the fact that this show exists; i love the mix of crime and romance; i love maxtul’s acting; i love the central relationship; i love bun. i know we’re not even halfway through yet, but this show is doing something special and i’m so grateful that i get to watch it unfold in real time.
10. CHIHAYAFURU (SEASON 3)
Tumblr media
odd one out on my list, but I had to include it. chihayafuru is my all-time favourite anime and it finally got a third season, which is somehow even better than the first two. mashima taichi is one of my favourite characters of all time and his storyline hits me on such a profound level. plus, in the years since i first say this show i’ve fallen in love with classical japanese literature (particularly heian poetry) so i had newfound appreciation for the karuta matches (aka i cried every time someone recited one of my favourite poems)
other favourites: together with me, he’s coming to me, sotus and sotus s, my dear loser: edge of 17, why r u, theory of love, wake up chanee!, gameboys, pearl next door, uta koi (anime), three kingdoms (2010), blood and water (netflix). (itsay would almost certainly be on my list if i’d had time to watch it. same with dark blue kiss, which i had to pause so i could do my assignments)
Final Thoughts
well, it’s been... a year (i don’t think anyone needs a reminder of the details) but writing this post has reminded me of all the amazing shows and people I discovered over the course of it.
thank you to everyone for being so lovely and creative and funny and quirky and kind and passionate. you’re all incredibly awesome people and i wish all of you the very best xx

Ok I was actually tagged in a bunch of these year-end-writing-things, so I’m just gonna combine them all haha thank you @crownofstardustandbone and @thursday-knight!!!
Total Completed Stories:
53(?!?!?)
Total words:
On AO3: 416,521
Total including WIPS and unposted things: 588,500
Fandoms written in:
.... Just MCU ahaha
Top 5 By Word Count:
Road Hazards
It Lingers Too
I Feel It Too
A Work in Progress: You and I
The Taste of You
Top 5 By Kudos:
Melt into Me (Your Words Are My Own)
Tony Learns Something New
Morning People
Baby Crazy
Emerald Ivy (Wrapped Around My Skin)
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?
Definitely more, and yet almost none of them were the fics I expected to work on haha
Did you take any writing risks this year?
Yes definitely, I was really nervous to post the MCD fic, obviously, (until I come back), but I feel like the biggest ‘risk’ was stretching out of my comfort zone for the Bound to You series with @crownofstardustandbone, it’s definitely the most emotional and REAL fic, I feel, for whatever real means in this context haha.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year?
Maybe actually write that Stripper Tony story? Or any of my other many many WIPs and ideas?! IDK don’t look at me!!
For real though look forward to some more skinny!steve coming up in the nearish future 👀
Most popular story of the year?
Oooohh That’s a tough one to judge, but I would have to say Melt Into Me, which makes me so so happy because I worked really hard on that one, put a lot of thought into basically every part of it, and I’m so happy with how it came out
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Road Hazards. It’s just still one of my favorites, if you like classic road trip tropes and banter and “awkward silence to bantering friends to mutual pining morons to lovers” vibes, all fluff all the time, then give it a try maybe! It’s also the longest stand alone fic I’ve written, and I’m still like damn how’d I do that
Most fun story to write?
Baby Crazy! I will shamelessly admit that I cracked MYSELF up writing that fic
With a very close runner up of Bound to You, because working out the details and planning and just talking about this verse is a constant joy and I’m so happy Stella dragged me into this! ❤️ (by suggesting it, that’s basically all it takes haha)
Most unintentionally telling story:
...... definitely Melt into Me ahaha my praise kink and acts-of-service-love-language popped out HARD in this fic, and that’s probably one of the reasons it’s in my top favorites. But I mean for real, my husband regularly pats my head and tells me I’m doing a good job and I go melty  everytime ahaha
Biggest disappointment?
Probably just all the ideas that I haven’t had time to get to yet, but hey I’ll get to it all eventually! Maybe!
Biggest surprise?
Probably how big of a hit the Bound to You series has been, I really expected it to be a kind of niche interest thing, and I’ve been just overwhelmed by the amount of people who liked it, and by the amazing people I’ve met because of that verse 🥰
rules: it’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 (ish) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
Oh Jeez ok I’m going to do my best here but WOW I wrote a lot this year ahaha
Melt Into Me (Your Words Are My Own) - WinterIron, E, aka the praise kink fic
Bucky has a new strategy for getting Tony to take proper human care of himself. Tony has never been so well fed, hydrated, thoroughly rested, and confused in all his life.
That doesn’t mean he wants it to stop, and it’s amazing how many boring adult things Bucky can get him to do just by patting his head and calling him ‘good boy’. Right up until Tony possibly ruins everything.
This fic just holds a very special place in my heart, I swear I put more thought into this than any other fic, the gradual build up and framing it just the way I wanted and making sure every scene was absolutely SOAKED in pining. As I like to say, it is Softe, but in a Very Intense way.
Bound to You - WinterIron BDSMverse, E, aka my current obsession
Look. I just love this series. I love everything about it, I love that it lets me dive a little deeper into emotions and such than I maybe normally do, in my usual cracky-porn style. This is definitely the slowest burn I’ve ever written, and I am loving every second of it and really REALLY looking forward to what we have coming up next! And of course, a big part of that love is just from how much fun I have working on it with @crownofstardustandbone, bounding ideas back and forth and brainstorming and making joking what-ifs that we end up falling in love with.
Baby Crazy - WinterIron, E, aka is it egotistical to laugh at my own jokes?
For some reason, the children of New York love Bucky Barnes. It’s heartwarming to witness, and it’s making it really hard for Tony to ignore his gigantic crush on the man.
Especially because Tony can’t stop suggesting they maybe have a baby together. The rest of the Avengers just want a vacation.
My favorite part of this fic is just how many people told me it made them actually laugh out loud, that’s basically my favorite thing to hear. All the friendships and team dynamics were so much fun in this one, and I will admit that I regularly reread it for a giggle
A Series of Learning Experiences - SteveTony, E, aka smol Steve with the big ol’ monster cock
Look. This series isn’t my fault. Stella put the idea of Skinny Toppy Steve in my head and now the little bastard lives there making filthy demands. This series is a totally different type of challenge too, in that I try to make it as Absolutely Filthy as possible. I regularly poke my friends like “hey is this filthy enough? SHOULD I UP THE FILTH FACTOR?!” It is my ode to smut with feelings, and I have so much fun with it haha
until I come back (from the dead for you) - WinterIron, E, aka the choose your own ending fic
Bucky meets Tony at a dive bar. He can’t deny that there’s something between them, but Bucky is also leaving soon, and he doesn’t know when he’ll be back. He only knows that he’ll think about Tony the entire time he’s gone, that as soon as he’s stateside again he’s going to take Tony on an actual date.
(Except he doesn’t come back.)
(But coming back takes a little longer than he expected, and he comes back a little more broken.)
Mostly I’m super proud of myself for actually managing to write the super sad MCD ending that I set out to, even if I did have to write the happy ending at the same time to get through it hahaha. I do love that people can choose the sad or happy ending without missing anything, but I do have to admit there are some parallels I’m really proud of that only show up if you read both versions

Cheers buddy~! 🍻How about 8, 9, and 17? 😊
8.       How many WIP do you currently have?
This depends heavily on the definition of a WIP lmao oh god I have like 20+ open documents in my writing app (and you bet your ass it’s all CDF). Some are lists of plot points or ideas. Some are snips of dialogue I want to use but their time hasn’t come yet. Some as chapter segments. As far as concrete stories, I only have 3.5 things on my to-do list:
1. Finishing Bloodline
2. Putting more work into the College AU (although that’s more to distract myself from Bloodline - so I don’t work on the college au with the same level of aggression).
3. The This Is Us re-write that’s coming after Bloodline, to give it more structure and character development. (At the time I had no idea what it would turn into, so I didn’t focus on the same things I would have prioritized if I’d known what direction it’d take).
.5. I want to do a little Mika/Renley thing. Strictly for my own entertainment and no one else’s - and I know I say that a lot but I really mean it this time. There’s only ever gonna be one OTP for me but I cannot deny I love the chemistry of these two. Bloodline isn’t the place to dig into it any more than I already have... but that’s not to say I don’t want to go there.
9.       Care to share a sneak peek of a WIP?
From Bloodline Chapter 22 - which is actually chapter 21 because I went back and combined two earlier chapters that shouldn’t have been split in the first place lmao
“Since when have you been interested in slaying anyone or anything? Violence has always repulsed you -“
“This war repulses me! The senseless death repulses me! We’re losing vampires and vampaneze every single day because of my failure! THAT repulses me!”
“Ah. You blame yourself for all of this.”
“How could I not?!”
“You’ve always held yourself to such a high standard. Listen closely now, Kurda. The past year has been a time of reckoning for the noble vampaneze clan, quite possibly more so than for the vampires. What I am about to tell you is a secret so closely guarded, it is not even whispered about amongst either clan. You are about to become the first vampire to learn this.”
“Wait... is your intention to help me?”
“My intention is to give you a chance to clear a path to a new figure for both clans. If you choose to leave my cave and go back to the small, sheltered life you carved for yourself in exile, then it will be as if you were never here at all.”
“I’d rather die than go back to exile. I’ve sat on the sidelines for seven years - never again.”
And yeah there’s no dialogue tags but that’s on purpose 🤡
17.   If there’s one thing you could tell your readers, what would it be?
Alright I try really hard not to harp on this too much because it’s hard to phrase it without sounding obnoxious. But I’m gonna try:
✨💕🤪Comments!🤪💕✨
Here’s the deal. I don’t care if someone doesn’t like my stuff. My content is niche and that’s fine. If you’re not into it, then I can only assume that means you’re not reading it. And that’s cool with me! This is more for the readers who’ve been invested for 70+ chapters but have never left a comment. I track my stats and the traffic is ✨consistent and rising✨. And it feels great to know people are reading! But for a reader to come this far and not leave anything.... idk, I don’t get it. Personally, I try really hard to leave comments on anything that sparks my interest (especially my mutuals) because I want others to have that little moment of serotonin when they realize one more person is out there enjoying what they’re doing. Maybe that’s why I take it so hard when people don’t do the same for me. Listen, I’m doing this for fun and readers don’t owe writers anything, and trust me I get that. But writing is so hard, and leaving a comment is so easy. I don’t know how not to take it personally when a chapter gets 20+ hits CONSISTENTLY within 24 hours of updating - and one or two comments. I’m not worried that people don’t like my stuff. I know people like my stuff. I also get that it’s my own problem for tying my self-worth to outside validation, and that’s on me. Or maybe it’s because I started writing over a decade ago when the fandom was more active, and I got used to getting buttloads of feedback. (For any of y’all who validated my shit in the early 2010’s, I blame my ego complex on you) But again, if that’s the case then that’s on me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’m not asking for people to leave me an essay on ever chapter, or constructive criticism (I’m too fragile for that anyway) and I’m definitely not asking for you to kiss my ass. Literally a few words gets the point across just fine. It doesn’t even have to be on every single chapter. There’s ONE person (Rowan 💕) who’s commented on ever single chapter of the entire DCU and believe me when I say I’d give them my social security number, my credit card, my car keys, and both my kidneys no questions asked because that shit means the world to me. Idk fam, no matter what happens I’m just glad y’all are reading my shit, feedback or not. I’m just saying I really really really like getting feedback.
Thanks for the questions! 😎🥂 as always, these were hella fun.

Outsider’s Guide to Humans (1?)
Recently I have been struggling with the feeling of being useful or included or involved particularly in groups. Part of my depression stems from feeling like an outsider even when I know I am not. I struggle a lot in my friendships and relationships and have deep rooted trust issues.
I just wanted to share something that I have come to the conclusion about. It may help you or not. It sounds like something simple that for some reason took me such a long time to come to terms about.
In order to push away these feelings of detachment. One must jump in headfirst to social situations with these following four points to form connections (irreplaceability, being there, passing the vibe check, and mutual trust). Seems simple, but not really. It takes a lot of time to reach. Special emphasis on TIME.
Let me get further in depth:
1. Irreplaceability: One must insert themselves so much that they are an integral part of the group. If you make it so that your role (literally or abstractly) is unchangeable and no one else understands how to be that person. This means you have carved your own niche that will be harder for people to disconnect from you. You will be their only source of whatever X factor you have. (This also works in the workplace, if people realize that if they fire you then they have no one else who is able to do it, then they will hesitate and have a lesser chance of getting rid of you). This also falls under market yourself, think what can you do in a relationship/friendship that might separate you from the others? THIS DOES NOT MEAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT: don’t be a doormat but do be there for them to lean on and teach them. Friendships and relationships are give and take, not just give, make sure they pull their weight in your relationship/friendship.
Ex. If you have ever watched/read Harry Potter you might see this is Hermione. Her relationship at Hogwarts starts friendless until she is forced into their lives. (This might be different for you because most likely you will have to be the one to initiate first). At first she starts as replaceable, she doesn’t help them, talk to them, she is as bland as every other flat character. She becomes a round character when she becomes irreplaceable. She is smart and resourceful, she is clever and cunning. She saves them numerous times. She is dependable on her personality. All these blend together for the boys to get to know her and lean on her.
2. Be there: One must be there in order to form connection, both physically and emotionally. Nobody likes conversing with a brick wall. This means keeping a conversation going as best you can. Being there increases instances of trust circumstance, little moments that bring people closer together. Trust comes easier when you are reliable and there as consistently as possible.
Ex. If a friend is crying from a breakup, you there, even just to hug without talking, have formed a bond. That friend is more likely to come to you when an experience like that happens again. Be warned: you need to make sure that at least 70% of your content (jokes, conversations, and behaviors) is positive to your audience and should relate. Every little word matters and it’s easy not to take them serious, you should though (ideally 100% of your content should be appropriate but let’s be honest who hasn’t put their foot in their mouth or said the wrong thing). I digress, your goal is connection, being their puts you in a prime position to make moments or bonds with the people you want to.
3. Vibe check: Often overlooked attitude is perhaps the most important. If people don’t get good vibes or at least mildly interested vibes from you it doesn’t matter how much you are there or are irreplaceable, you aren’t going to be included. Even the strong silent types are invested in group happenings, their vibes depend on dependability (going back to 2. being there). This includes not being fake or blank. Most people can tell fakeness very well, but not consciously, it will tell in your vibes. To a degree most connections depend on some level of mutual trust. Fakeness will be found out and will lessen their trust, they will tell.
Ex. Again in Harry Potter, Harry distrusts Draco around the sixth book (I believe, it has been a while please forgive me for inaccuracies). Sure, you could contribute this action to Draco’s years of bullying Harry and his family members connection to the Dark Lord, but this could have been something that Harry could have said in years past. Instead, he gets Draco’s vibe of uncertainty and instantly knows there is more to the equation (spoiler alert: he’s not wrong, Draco was doing the Dark Lord’s bidding by fixing the mystery cabinet in the Room of Requirement). The point is Harry has had years to know Draco as an enemy but has never fully been invested in his happenings until he feels Draco’s vibes have changed. Vibes can tell you a lot about a person, that’s why people trust their gut and you should too.
4. Mutual trust: One has to be trusted to be a confidant. The highest level of connection (in my humble opinion) is the confidant (or the secret keeper for you Harry Potter nerds, AKA me), it means the person trusts you enough to keep both good and bad secrets. Trust is more abstract. Trust doesn’t come from some equation, but rather you have to have the three above (irreplaceability, being there, and vibe check) combined with time. Trust is extremely important and perhaps the most fragile of all these points. All lasting relationships (which who doesn’t want lasting relationships) are built on mutual trust. It is give and take. What am I okay with? What are they okay with? Boundaries! People want someone that will be there. If they want a friend or a significant other, they want to trust them. You should want trust, or you don’t want a friendship/relationship. Trust is the in. Trust is the know. Trust is knowing someone long enough plus them being comfortable with you enough that they are able to tell you more and more about themselves without feeling that their words will be used against themselves or be leaked. Be that person for them.
Ex. My friend tells me who her crush is because she knows that I will help her get the guy behind the scenes and will not tell him that she likes her (this is a REALLY corny example but I think you get the point). She has trust when she tells me that I will not spill to anyone else and will help further her goals subtly.
Please give me feedback. Do you agree? Disagree? Why? Did this help? Did I leave something out? Is there something you would like to add to the list?

Fandom is a giant online space place made up of thousands of tiny online places, and in this article, we’re going to talk about why it’s important for each author to find a tiny place of their own. Fandom corners are internet places where people connect in small numbers over highly niche interests. In our analysis of 29 hour-long interviews with authors, three central themes around fandom corners emerged: connection, encouragement and feedback. A fandom corner could take the form of a Discord server, a chat group on Facebook or Skype, a board on a less-traveled forum, or the right intersection of tags on AO3. Finding your corner means connecting with relatable people who make you feel comfortable, encourage you, and can give you feedback on your ideas and writing.
Connection and Comfort
Authors feel more connected in fandom corners because of the niche intersections of interests and identity that bring people together. For example, one author spoke with us about a set of Discord servers around a ship and fandom that brought together queer women:
“I particularly like that there’s sort of these little communities of queer women or mostly queer women or queer aligned groups… It’s just nice to talk to people who get it, who get why you’re so excited” (P4).
People in this group had common ground because they shared a traditionally underrepresented identity and they were into the same fandom. The term affinity has been used by internet researchers to describe shared interests and identities. In P4’s experience, affinity in the fandom corner created a safe environment to talk about writing queer sexuality in fanfiction.
“I've seen how friendly and nonjudgmental everyone is in responding [to others]. That makes me feel quite safe to go and ask them, ‘how do I write this thing?’ And it’s something that's quite sort of deeply personal and intimate” (P4).
The community Discord provided authors with a safe place where they can connect to each other in a carefully moderated and curated group. But the feeling of small community extended into public spaces as well, where P4 noticed the same usernames coming up repeatedly in AO3 comments and on Tumblr. Although the overall community is large, the group of people interested in a few specific tags can be very small. P4 began connecting with others over private message.
“When I get the same people commenting on things that I’ve written, that makes me feel like I’m part of a little group... I’m part of the gang that does this. And privately talking to people who’s stuff I read who are other fans, it’s a quite nice feeling of belonging” (P4).
Finding a space where a small group of people connect over niche interests can help authors to feel like they belong, give them a comfortable place to talk about sensitive topics, and help them find people to connect to over private chat. As we discuss next, these connections and comfortable places are also support writing as authors receive encouragement and feedback from their communities.
Overcoming Writer’s Block
Fandom corners are helpful spaces for authors experiencing writer’s block. Almost everybody we interviewed mentioned a time where they felt stuck, unable to make forward progress, or that a scene was just not working. A common strategy was to take a short break from writing and come back to it, but sooner or later authors would turn to others to vent their frustrations or get help. A small community provides the perfect setting for authors to feel comfortable talking about their frustrations and supported by people who are close to them.
“There was a chat that I used to visit a lot... We will be very encouraging toward one another and to encourage others to just continue writing even though we were complaining” (P3).
Small groups provide a space where authors can commiserate about the sheer difficulty of writing, letting them vent out frustrations to an audience that really understands. The encouragement they receive helps them keep going. In addition, authors might send a snippet of their writing and receive fresh ideas that help them to get unstuck.
“I’d copy out a section and paste it into discord... they read the part where I was stuck and said just keep doing this, I think what you’ve done here is cool and maybe try doing this as well” (P12).
“Sometimes just, even though I'm very introverted, turning to my trusted group of friends and having them help me troubleshoot is very, um, it turns a problem into something that's really fun and silly” (P10).
Because they were comfortable enough to share rough writing when they’re stuck, authors could get encouragement and new ideas to help them move forward. Communities also organized ‘sprint’ events, where writers held each other accountable for writing as much as they could for a short period of time.
“We will set time and be like “in the next 30 minutes, we are going to write as much as you can and when we come back, share the sentences”. So kinds of being forced to write. Some people come back be like “I wrote a thousand words” and I will be like “I got 10”. I will be like I didn’t come up with anything but they will be like “well those 10 words you didn’t have them before. So overall it’s a positive thing” (P3).
The closeness people feel in fandom corners creates an environment where they can commiserate, give each other encouragement, and be accountable for writing. This does a great deal to help authors break through and make progress when they’re feeling frustrated or stuck.
Feedback
A fandom corner is the perfect place for authors to get feedback on their writing. Since these small communities are places where people share interests and build relationships, authors felt that there was a high likelihood that others would be interested and respond to requests for feedback.
“There's a couple of different communities where there's people that I trust, and I might post a general message saying ‘Anyone willing to give a look at this, and tell me what you think?’ And then usually then somebody will reply” (P1).
Authors preferred to get feedback from people they already knew and trusted, especially when seeking feedback on unfinished work. So an online space frequented by those folks was a great place to ask for help. Authors would often get immediate responses when they posted to group chats, allowing them to ask for help as they were in-process with their writing.
“I’ll post a snippet of a scene and it will be hey how do you guys think about this part I am working on it right now. With the discord group they are very immediate. They’re really good for in the moment help...We have a very close friendly relationship” (P15).
Having an ongoing relationship with feedback providers also helped authors to get deeper, more thoughtful feedback. They felt understood by their in-group because of their shared context. If someone has read all of your prior fic, they start with a lot of common ground for giving feedback.
“They’ve all read my fic pretty in depth. So I can be like remember when this happened, or where should I go for this part of, you know, my next venture into this universe or whatever. They know what’s up there so I don’t have to reexplain everything or force them to watch the show or something, so they can understand what I’m thinking all the time” (P17).
The benefit of fandom corners boils down to being understood by others. Authors in these tight-knit communities mutually understand each others’ interests, their writing contexts, and the experience of writing fanfiction. That’s why others in the fandom corner will offer encouragement and comments to each other in public spaces like Tumblr and AO3.
“I feel like there’s a sort of comment exchanging between writers in fanfic, you know, I’ll comment on yours and you’ll comment on mine, cause we all know how much we love it.” (P4).
People maintain the same connection whether they’re in a small group chat or a public internet space. This begs the question: is the fandom corner the small group chat, or is it the tightly-connected people who are there? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments.
Conclusion
For every combination of tags, there is an opportunity for people to connect and form a small, close community around their shared interests. Wherever fandom corners emerge, people feel comfortable, build relationships and find support. These little groups are great places for authors to connect with each other, get encouragement when they’re stuck, and get helpful feedback on their in-progress writing. So go find your corner!
About This Series
This series is a breakdown of findings from an interview study run by a fanfiction research group within the department of Human Centered Design & Engineering at the University of Washington. In January and February 2019, we interviewed 29 fanfiction authors to understand how they connect with each other, build relationships, and seek out writing feedback. We learned profound lessons about the importance of building connections, the reciprocality of relationships and feedback, and the intersection of fandom with real life identity.

How does Tumblr function as a digital community?
Tumblr as a community has evolved, for better and for worse, due to the management changes and core features the website has experienced over the span of the past decade. From its foundations, Tumblr has catered to those who are “increasingly moored from the cultural mainstream” (Neagle, 2017, pp.11). As a combined result of both platform mechanics and the platform’s “alternative” audience, Tumblr users have garnered infamy for their attachments to “fandoms”  as well as their homogenous “extrême-gauche” political views.
In 2007, Tumblr was founded by David Karp with the intention of it being a “tumblelogging/microblogging” platform as no others shone at this time (Rioja, 2020). Originally, this attracted artists, writers and various bloggers into the community of Tumblr. Due to its niche, non-commercialised, and NSFW-friendly nature, Tumblr also garnered a lot of attention from “alternative” users, or users that did not quite fit in with the mainstream community of platforms such as Twitter or Facebook and desired a more “liberating” platform. As Tumblr began to integrate “popular tags” and “recommended blogs to follow” on their interface, subcultures began to sprout, alongside passionate users with various interests to share in those communities. This is how subculture and “fandom” behaviour thrived on Tumblr more so than other social media platforms. Fans of certain books, video games, anime, LGBTQ+ people, etc. have all flourished from these features.

Political opinion and intrinsic values are extremely homogenous within Tumblr, which is the result of a couple of the website’s characteristics:
The marginalised youth  are the most vocal and common user on the website (Cho, 2015a; Renninger, 2015; Thelandersson, 2013; Warfield, 2016), whom of which will support their fellow “mutuals”; and
The plethora of features Tumblr has that encourages anonymity meant that users could, without consequence, attack or threaten vocal users with conflicting opinions to theirs.
With anonymous “asks” integrated as a feature, fandom personas (i.e. character roleplay tumblr accounts are a popular subseries of blog-genre) were gratified (Renninger, 2015), and the reblog feature was limitless in content’s spread, Tumblr granted its users a double edged sword: though it was ultimately freeing to sever a user’s ties from a professional or physical appearance, it could also prove to have vicious and hostile potential (example here and here). Those who held conflicting opinions to a sub-community’s norms would be either shunned or inclined to remain silent. These factors moulded Tumblr to have its infamous “panopticon” culture, where a Tumblr user grows accustomed to policing themselves in fear of an offended observer publicly shaming them. (Neagle, 2017, pp.12) (McMullan, 2015).
Tumblr’s website is largely at war with its own community as the platform fades into obscurity. As website ownership flung from independence to a multitude of corporations, Tumblr saw the need to adapt to a more advertiser-friendly landscape. Because of Tumblr’s frequented polarising and NSFW content, the website created a distaste for brands to advertise and thus the website favoured the profit potential of Tumblr having more of a “family-friendly” attitude, choosing money over their loyal customer base by censoring NSFW content entirely. This action, in accordance with various unpolished features over the years, resulted in the general Tumblr community to detest the platform (seen here and here) and its ownership as no recent update is seen to favour the user, only the investors. A renaissance of inside-joke memes regarding the website’s fallacy erupted (examples here, here and here) as the community withered.

Once independent and NSFW-friendly, Tumblr had matured from their fundamental nature in the hopes of granting advertiser favour. Though as website traffic dimished (NSFW being a key contributor to Tumblr’s popularity), so too did the attraction of the website as a profitable digital billboard (Fiegerman, 2017). As Tumblr becomes less and less popular, many of its users migrate to more cooperative platforms (e.g. writers to Twitter, aesthetic blogs to Instagram). Those that remain cling solely to the unique community Tumblr fostered rather than the potential the website has for self-expression.
