Think about it, he is the last surving of the veterans, like Last surviving superior of the survey crops. That also makes him oldest surviving member of the survey crops.

Hi anon!

Now this is an interesting question, I don't think Erwin wanted Isabel and Furlan dead however given that he had been in the scouts for some time, he knew the dangers of sending two young still inexperienced soldiers out there. I think he suspected and most likely guessed what the outcome would be as much as he didn't want either to die. We see that after that Levi gets mad at him, naturally the two people he loved the most were brutally killed in front of him so Levi's reaction and desire to kill Erwin at that moment was understandable. With Levi, Erwin was aware of Levi's skill and knew that Levi could handle it. Short answer, Erwin knew the outcome but he didn't want the two to die. We see it at the end of Erwin's life that he is ridden with guilt at all the soldiers who died under his command, his plans were often reckless and some might say even heartless but I don't think that Erwin was a bad man at all, he just had consequences he had to bear as the commander.
