sleep pile with bruno and his nieces and nephews!
Thank you for the request 🥺 Somehow this turned out to be over 1,000 words! Here’s the AO3 link!
...
Duerme bien
“But we should—“
“Leave him there. Good idea.”
“Not what I was going to say!”
“Whaddya mean? We’re practically twins! We finish each otherrr’s…”
“Like I’d ever fall for that.”
“Hey. What’re you guys just, standing there for?”
Mirabel and Camilo startle at the voice behind them.
“Luisa! Keep your voice down, okay,” Mirabel hisses. “It’s Tío Bruno.”
The tall young woman crosses the courtyard and gazes in the direction her sister has indicated with puckered lips. Her powerful body is immediately tense, ready to spring forward and pluck their tío out of whatever situation he’s landed in. The instant she sees him, though, she gives a low little laugh.
“Oh, he’s sleeping.”
“Yeah. On the floor. Just. Dead to the world, right there.” Camilo, heaping on the obvious statements.
“Which is why we should move him to the couch!”
“He looks… comfortable?” Luisa shifts from one foot to the other. “Haven’t you seen this before?” The younger kids shake their heads. “He used to do it a lot. Before he, uh, left. I remember seeing him asleep on the floor, or like, in a corner somewhere. Mamá said that as long as he wasn’t in danger, wasn’t going to fall or get stepped on or anything, it was okay to let him be. Said he needed the rest.”
She doesn’t mention the part where she’d plunk down in front of Bruno, a doll and stuffed animal in tow, or sometimes blocks. Or that she’d sit with him until he woke up (once or twice prodding him awake herself). Then her tío would blink at her through those ever sleepless eyes, never upset with her, not even if she roused him sooner than he’d wanted. Just a crooked smile and a bleary but tender, “Buenas, Luisita.”
Camilo is gesturing at the man’s form in the center of the living room. “See? I was right. Also, wow, fu—ay! Wh—“
“Shh. I still think we should move him.” Mirabel’s brow is furrowed.
“…What if he wakes up?”
“Yeah. And anyway, he’s probably too heavy for us n–ow! Stop pinching me, Mirabel!”
“He’s not!” Mirabel says, while Luisa crosses her arms, biceps bulging. “And I won’t, because you keep being an—“
“Let him stay there.”
All three of them jump in spite of the sound of a well-practiced whisper beside them. Turning their heads in unison, they see Dolores peeking around the threshold at their passed-out uncle.
“He’s still lighter than you, cabeza gorda.” She adds, humming, lest she squander the opportunity to defend Bruno and jab back at her brother, who simply shrugs, even as he fixes her with a too-wide smirk.
Looking back at Mirabel, he says, “Our majority and our seniority reign!”
Mirabel is familiar enough with their mothers’ and Bruno’s banter as triplets to know it’s hopeless to argue that Camilo being two months and one week older than her totally does not count as seniority. Still, the words chafe.
“Well, unfortunately for you, primo, brains beat age,” she counters. Smiling at her own private triumph. “You guys, come on! Dolores, don’t worry, we won’t wake him.”
“Oh. No, it’s not that–“
“¡Permiso!”
As if on cue, the quiet, piping voice of the youngest Madrigal sends the four bigger bodies shuffling. They watch the boy’s curly head bob toward them—the rest of him is nearly obscured by the thick woolen blanket he’s hugging to his torso—and as he weaves through and on into the room.
Antonio had been the first to stumble upon Bruno like this, after consulting the rats over his whereabouts (“I need to find your mamá,” is how he framed it). It was seeing his tío fast asleep on the floor that made the boy shelve his pursuit of story time in favor of the next most logical thing.
Sure, the kid may have gotten distracted by his toucan friend along the way, but he’s back now! And once he reaches his destination he promptly arranges the blanket in a pile next to Bruno, plopping down on his side and snuggling his cheek against the man’s pudgy belly.
The sight makes Dolores and Mirabel grin and Luisa’s lower lip quiver.
“Looks like Toñito’s found a middle way.” Camilo arches an eyebrow.
No one is at all fazed when Mirabel darts away, skirt fluttering. Nor when they hear a few muffled thumps somewhere above them, followed by the sound of her shushing herself. Within moments she’s at the living room entrance again, heaving blankets and pillows at the others (Casita had to have helped with the load), and bounding ahead, lightly, with hers. She motions c’mon just as she’s starting to lay out her blanket in order to curl around her little primo, who wiggles his fingers at her.
“His tummy keeps making noises,” Antonio whispers, stifling a sleepy giggle.
Mirabel’s mouth forms into an o-shape. To her right, she catches a glimpse of Luisa settling on her quilt above Bruno’s head. “Maybe it’s better not to lie on it, hombrecito…”
“It’s okay,” Dolores says with an unconscious tilt of her head, from where she’s making a spot for herself. “Tío ate a little over an hour ago. He’s just slow to digest.” A satisfied Antonio mushes his whole face into Bruno’s soft stomach.
“Hey, save some room for your big brother.”
The teenager has shape-shifted into a… smaller version of himself—a bit smaller than Antonio, even. Nudging in between Dolores and their tío, he steals the former’s pillow so he can roll onto it, and rests his head opposite his brother’s. After a second or two of mild contemplation, he pulls an expression that reads not bad and gives an exaggerated yawn.
Pepa and Félix’s eldest shakes her head. Then her eyes flick off to the left… barely catching the shadow moving past the room.
The last things Dolores sees before she lies down beside Bruno are Luisa curved in an arc over him, body completely slumped and a gentle smile playing on her lips; and Mirabel rubbing circles into Antonio’s back as he drifts off, trying to fight the same fate…
In due time, the air turns fragrant with the scent of various wildflowers. Isabela slips into the room, a rolled blanket in the crook of her elbow, and conjures crowns for each of her family members. (No outrageous blooms, though she considers making an exception for Camilo.) When she’s finished putting the final touches on Bruno’s clovers, she claims the space by her youngest sister.
“Duerme bien,” she murmurs, letting her forehead rest against the already slumbering girl’s shoulder.
Everything falls silent.
Maybe he would have moved earlier. Coughed, or something. But, oh, these kids…
Bruno allows one eye to open a crack, then the other. Gingerly, he extracts his rather stiff arm out from under Mirabel, giving it the tiniest stretch and twist before placing his hand on Antonio’s head.
He smiles, and closes his eyes once more.

quick prompt idea: cool color siblings bonding time!! (platonic ofc) idea like them doing girl things together (sleepover in isa’s room?), having a tickle fight, friendly competitions w the grandkids, how the Julieta and Agustín spend time with their kids individually and all together. just some ideas, hope this helps! <3
Anon, I'm so sorry this took so long. You sent this back in February only for all my writing inspo to immediately die. I have no idea if you'll see this, but I hope it was worth the wait.
Word Count: About 1700
*****
It was the night before Mirabel's Gift ceremony, and tensions in the house were high.  No matter where you looked, someone was frantically trying to prepare for the big day.
Agustín and Félix were trying to keep their wives sane as they scurried about the kitchen (Félix more so, as frequent strings of curses passed Pepa's lips as she burned herself again), Alma was sweeping the floors and dusting the shelves, barking orders to Bruno who had run to the market at least sixteen times in the last 48 hours to collect something or another, while Dolores babysat Camilo, who was practically bouncing off the walls in excitement over his cousin's upcoming ceremony, frequently shifting from himself to Mirabel.
But while everyone else was busy doing chores and running errands, there were three people who seemed to be missing from all the excitement.
Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel herself.
Mirabel had been a nervous wreck all week.  She was excited to get her Gift, of course, but she knew with a Gift came big responsibility.  She had stayed up many nights trying to guess what her new ability would be, but she always came up blank.
Her sisters immediately picked up on her anxiety, and suggested they have a sleepover - just the three of them - in the comfort of Isabela's fluffy pink bedroom.
"So Mirabel, are you excited for your big day tomorrow?"  Isabela asked, using her fingers to delicately separate Mirabel's hair, and working it into braids.
"Of course I am!"  Mirabel said, bouncing a bit until her sister scolded her to quit squirming.
"It's gonna be so weird,"  Luisa said from her perch on Isabela's bed, swinging her legs over the edge.  "Our baby sister getting her Gift?"
"I bet it'll be something to do with your sewing,"  Isabela said, tying off one of the braids.  "You and Abuela always do such great embroidery together.  You're like, a prodigy or something."
Mirabel giggled a bit at the praise, her ears turning light pink.  "I like sewing with Abuela,"  She said simply.
"Goodness knows I've never had the patience for it,"  Isabela said, and it was true.  While Alma had taught each of the girls to sew, Isabela always ended up with crooked seams and pricked fingers.  She'd been reprimanded on more than one occasion for saying words her Abuela didn't approve of when she made a mistake.
"I liked sewing, but my fingers are always too big to thread the needle,"  Luisa said, hopping off the bed and joining her sisters in front of the mirror.  "But Mirabel, everything you make turns out perfect."
"I just want to make my family proud,"  Mirabel said simply, as Isabela finished the other braid.  She hopped off the vanity seat and gestured for Luisa to sit so that she could have her hair done as well.
"That's all any of us want,"  Luisa said, as Isabela started running a comb through her hair.
Mirabel opened her mouth to reply but there was suddenly a knock on the door.  All three girls turned toward it, Isabela shouting for whoever was on the other side to come in.
"Hello ladies,"  The door was pushed open by their papa, holding a tray of cookies in his arms.  "Mami thought you might be getting hungry, since you all ran off without much dinner."
"We were just excited, Papi!"  Mirabel bounded over to him, squeezing his leg.  "We haven't had a sleepover in forever!"
Agustín laughed, as he moved farther into the room, placing the tray on Isabela's bedside table, before lifting Mirabel into his arms.  "Well, I certainly don't want to interrupt your sister time,"  He said.  "I like your hair like this, amor!  Did you do this, Isa?"
Isabela nodded, putting a flower in Luisa's hair as a final touch.  "I like doing their hair.  I'll do yours next time."
Agustín chuckled, placing Mirabel back on the floor, before running a hand through his hair.  "I'll hold you to it.  But for now, I think your mamá needs me.  She's going to work herself silly if I don't tell her to call it a night."
With a kiss for each of them, he left the room - but not before snagging a cookie for himself with a wink.
"Can we do nails next!?"  Mirabel bounced over to the shelf Isabela kept her - rather expansive - nail polish collection on.  "I want to look pretty for my ceremony tomorrow!"
The three girls each picked out a color and took turns painting each other's nails as they talked.  Mirabel chose turquoise (her favorite color), Luisa red (to go with her hair bow) and Isabela lavender (to match her favorite dress).
They chatted about their days, Luisa's chores, how annoying Camilo had been ever since his own Gift ceremony, constantly imitating them just to get on their nerves.
It was getting late by the time their nails were dried, but the girls weren't ready to sleep just yet.  They were having too much fun.
"Let's play a game,"  Luisa suggested.  "Truth or Dare?"
"Ooh, okay!"  Mirabel said, rubbing her tiny hands together.  "Luisa - Truth or Dare?"
"Dare,"  Luisa said, as she always did.
Mirabel tapped her chin in thought, looking around the room.  Her eyes fell on the small pond in the corner, where Isabela practiced making water lilies.
"I dare you to jump in the pond."
"But it's cold!"  Luisa protested.
"Are you too chicken to play Truth or Dare?"  Isabela leaned in, elbowing her sister.
"No,"  Luisa said, narrowing her eyes and crossing her arms.  "No, I'll do it."
Without another word, Luisa stood and marched over to the pond, before bracing herself and plunging in.
After a moment, she emerged with a gasp, soaked from head to toe, with a lily pad stuck to her hair.  "Isaaaa, why isn't this thing heated?"
"It's not meant for swimming, silly!"  Isabela said.  "Besides, I can't control the water, just the plants."
Luisa made her way back to where her sisters sat, as they giggled at her disheveled appearance.  Casita threw a towel from the hook on the wall in her direction, which Luisa gratefully accepted.
"Okay my turn,"  She said, as she squeezed water from her hair.  "Isabela - Truth or Dare?"
Isabela thought for a moment.  "Mmm, Truth."
A small smirk crossed Luisa's lips.  "Isa… have you ever kissed anyone?"
She and Mirabel both leaned in, as Isabela's cheeks burned scarlet.  "Luisa!"
"You're not chicken, are you?"  Luisa asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Of course not,"  Isabela spluttered, crossing her arms.  "But if you must know, then yes.  I have."
Both her sisters' jaws dropped, and a gasp and groan was heard outside the door.  Of course their father had to choose that moment to walk past her room on his way to the bathroom.
"Who!?"  Luisa and Mirabel shouted in unison.
"I shouldn't kiss and tell…"  Isabela said mysteriously, a smirk on her lips.
"Aww, come on, Isa!"  Luisa whined.
"Nope!"  Isabela said, turning to the youngest of the three.  "Besides, it's Mirabel's turn!  Truth or Dare."
"Truth,"  Mirabel said.
"Hmm, alright…"  Isabela mused.  "What is your biggest fear?"
Mirabel thought for a moment.  "Probably not getting a Gift."
"What?"  Luisa gasped.
"That's ridiculous!"  Isabela said at the same time.
"Hey, you're not supposed to tease me,"  Mirabel pouted, her lower lip jutting out.
"Sorry Mira, it's just… not what we expected,"  Luisa said, patting her younger sister's shoulder.  "We thought you'd say spiders or something."
"Yeah, of course you'll get a Gift,"  Isabela said, rolling her eyes.
"I know but… it's still scary,"  Mirabel said, before letting out a large yawn.
"Uh oh, are you getting sleepy?"  Isabela asked.
"No… I'm…"  Mirabel yawned again.  "Well, maybe a little."
Isabela took Mirabel's hand and the three of them climbed into her bed.  It was big enough for all of them to fit, albeit a tight squeeze.
"We don't have to sleep yet, but let's just get comfy,"  Isabela said, pulling the blankets over them.
"Yeah, we have to stay up all night!"  Mirabel said.
"Of course!"  Luisa agreed, snuggling deeper under the covers.
The three girls continued to talk for awhile, until Mirabel fell asleep, nestled in the middle. Isabela and Luisa chatted a bit more, but before either of them knew it, all three girls were snoring peacefully.
-
"You don't suppose they're still awake, do you?"  Julieta asked, as she and Agustín ascended the stairs together.  It was rather late, their preparations for the following day bringing them into the wee hours of the morning.
"I hope not,"  Agustín said, taking her hand and clasping their fingers together.  "Or else we'll have three cranky little girls to deal with in the morning."
Julieta chuckled, before softly opening the door to Isabela's room.  Stubs of candles left the room dimly lit, just enough for them to see all three of their girls tucked in bed together.  Isabela's limbs were splayed across the mattress like a starfish ("she sleeps just like you, Agustín!"), Luisa covered up to her nose in the quilt, and Mirabel had somehow found her way upside down, with her head at the foot of the bed.
"They're getting so grown up,"  Julieta said, pulling a spare blanket from the closet and laying it across Mirabel, before removing her glasses and laying them gently on the nightstand.  "Our baby is getting her Gift in just a few hours, can you believe it?"
"I can't,"  Agustín said, going around the room, blowing out the candles one by one.  "But they'll always be our babies, yeah?"
"Yeah,"  Julieta agreed fondly, brushing a strand of hair from Isabela's face, who only twitched in her sleep at the touch.  "They're so peaceful when they sleep."
"Shame they can't be this quiet all the time," Agustín teased, joining her beside the bed.
They watched their girls sleep for awhile, before Agustín squeezed Julieta's shoulder.  "We really should get some sleep ourselves, you know.  Busy day tomorrow."
Julieta sighed, nodding her head.
They both placed a kiss on each of the girls' foreheads, before taking one another's hands and walking out the door.
"Goodnight, you three,"  Julieta whispered, shutting the door softly behind them.
"Amor,"  Agustín said, as they made their way back to their own bedroom.
"Hmm?"
"Did you know Isabela was kissing boys already?"

Old piece allert. This is an older character sheet series I did for my Encanto au, Over the Mountains.
(In this fan fiction, Mirabel ran away on Antonio's birthday in fear of slowly drifting away from him as well. It has been ten years since the events of that day, and everyone was affected in one way or another. In the story, the Madrigal grandkids go after her, following Bruno's vision of the misterious new doors that appeared out of nowhere. The story is called "Over the Mountains.")
Luisa is the strong one. They give her all the heavy things they can't shoulder. But under the surface, the little girl living inside her is terrified of what could have happened to her little sister in the past ten years.
She took on the role of the owerprotective big sister of the Madrigal grandkids after Isabela started to fall down into depression. Now she's the caretaker of the family, which part was previously Mirabel's.
Since Julieta lost her youngest and became overprotective of her older daughters, Luisa had to make some changes. She wears more suitable clothes for her chores, enclouding boots with better support for her legs and thicker gloves to protect her palms.

The Mitchells vs. the Madrigals - Fan script for a mini sketch
Tumblr media
DISCLAIMER: The following script is a parody. Any use of names related to movies, institutions or people (whether fictional or not) is not meant to be taken seriously.
--------------------------------------
Dolby Theater, March 27th 2022. The Oscars are about to begin. Among various live action actors, directors and similar film crew, some CGI animated characters and a 2-D Amin Nawabi (Flee) look for their seats apart from those that belong to the directors of their respective movies. Among the CGI toons are Raya and Sisu; next to them, Luca, Alberto and Giulia. Amin, in particular, wears a tuxedo while Sisu only wears a tie. Raya, on the other hand, wears an elegant dress. They all sit. The spectators around these toon stars clap and cheer at them with eerie-looking faces and smiles. Last but not least, two toon families in elegant clothing also find their seats among the clapping spectators. At one side, the Madrigals; at the other, the Mitchells. The spectators suddenly stop clapping as the two families sit and get comfortable. Aaron Mitchell, along with Monchi (who also wears a little tuxedo, like a little gentleman), get closer to where Antonio Madrigal is. Aaron stares at Antonio and does a little dino roar while showing his T-Rex snapper.
ANTONIO: Guys, take a seat!
At this command, some wild animals appear out of nowhere: a leopard, a few capibaras, a toucan, a few tapirs, some coatis… Aaron feels uncomfortable about this. Monchi, on the other hand, gets scared at the animals and leaves towards the rest of the Mitchell family. Aaron follows him. Meanwhile, Rick gets approached by Linda.
LINDA: I don’t know about you honey, but I hope Encanto wins.
RICK: Enchan…to? You mean the one with that, what was called… “Bruno”… song? Aaron never stops seeing that video Katie has made with Monchi barfing it.
LINDA: Well…yeah! I guess so.
A second Linda approaches Rick.
LINDA 2: Ehm…Rick?
The first Linda changes into Camilo Madrigal, who returns with the rest of the Madrigals with an annoyed yet confused look on his face. He can't believe Rick knows little about Encanto. Mirabel, on the other hand, approaches Katie.
MIRABEL (with an optimistic tone): Hey, good luck.
They both shake hands, but Katie feels a little unsecure about what just happened.
KATIE: Ehm…thanks I suppose?
Mirabel returns to where the rest of the Madrigals are.
CUT TO: An hour later
The time all the toons and the directors of their movies have been waiting for has finally come. Lily James, Naomi Scott and Halle Bailey get on stage to present the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Everyone cheers.
HALLE BAILEY: All of these characters hold such a special place in our hearts, because animated films make up some of our most formative movie experiences as kids.
Katie gets surprised and mumbles angrily.
LILY JAMES: So many kids watch these movies over, and over…
HALLE BAILEY: And over and over and over and over and over!
NAOMI SCOTT: I see some parents out there know exactly what we’re talking about!
Linda also gets surprised and mumbles angrily, but in a tone that’s little louder than Katie. Katie sees this and calms her down.
KATIE (whispering): Calm down, mom! There’s… there’s a big chance for us to win! I hope…
NAOMI SCOTT: Here are the nominees for Best Animated Feature Film. Encanto; Jared Bush, Byron Howard, Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer.
As Scott reads the previous title and directors, the Madrigals get surprised as the ever-so-cheerful crowd claps at them. A rainbow appears over Pepa. Isabela produces some beautiful flowers on her hair and Antonio’s animal friends look at him happily. However, Abuela Alma seems to just be happy about the situation; she doesn’t celebrate with the family. Mirabel, on the other hand, just looks at everyone with discommodity in her eyes.
N.S. (cont’d): Flee; Jonas Poher Rasmussen, Monica Hellström, Signe Byrge Sørensen and Charlotte de la Gournerie.
Amin hesitates for a moment, then stands up and, with a confused look, bows at the crowd around him.
N.S. (cont’d): Luca; Enrico Casarosa and Andrea Warren.
While the monotonous crowd cheers, Giulia waves at them while Luca and Alberto celebrate by throwing bottles of water at themselves. This causes them to change into their sea monster forms, much to Giulia’s surprise.
N.S. (cont’d): The Mitchells vs the Machines; Mike Rianda, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Kurt Albrecht.
Katie is trying to calm down Linda when, suddenly, she realizes her family has just been mentioned. She immediately and insecurely waves at the crowd along with Rick. Linda waves frowning while Aaron waves Monchi’s left front paw. Both Rick and Aaron’s faces are also showing the same insecurity as the women of their family.
N.S. (cont’d): Raya and the Last Dragon; Don Hall, Carlos López Estrada, Osnat Shurer and Peter del Vecho.
Sisu and Raya wave at the crowd. Sisu then pats Raya in the head.
LILY JAMES: The Academy rules specify that animated characters must remain in their seats.
N.S.: Only real people can accept the award, so please be animated.
HALLE BAILEY: And the Oscar goes to…
Suspense is in the air. All toons stare at the three hosts in excitement. There’s even fog surrounding Pepa! Monchi just drools over the deadpan capibara, though, but the latter doesn’t even react to that. Finally, Bailey opens the envelope. The winner is…
JAMES, SCOTT AND BAILEY: Encanto!!!
All of the live-action audience members clap and cheer. While the Encanto live-action crew heads to the stage, the Madrigals and Antonio’s animals celebrate their victory along with the crowd surrounding them. A ray of sunshine appears over Pepa. Abuela Alma is still only happy and keeps distancing herself from the Madrigals’ celebration. Also, Mirabel is still looking uncomfortable. Amin gets a little frustrated at not winning the award while a member of the crowd turns around to give a “better luck next time” look towards his neck. A similar thing happens with some crowd members next to the remaining “loosers”. The Luca trio is straight up angry at the situation, but that doesn’t compare to Linda’s reaction. She starts breathing and growling uncontrollably with her face having turned hot and her pupils having shrunk down to some dangerously familiar ones. Her scene attracts the attention of Raya and Sisu; Sisu being just about to pat Raya in the shoulder as consolation. Katie and Rick, meanwhile, are trying to calm Linda down.
KATIE: Mom, mom, please calm down!
RICK: Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out, it’s OK!
Linda’s breakdown doesn’t seem to worry the live-action assistants of the ceremony. The Encanto live action crew do their speech.
CLARK SPENCER: And everyone in the Walt Disney Animation Studios, this film only exists because of your talent and your passion…
LINDA (in a very angry tone): KATIE, IS IT TRUE THE ACADEMY IS BOUGHT BY DISNEY?!
This interrupts Spencer’s speech. The Encanto LA crew, the three hostess and everyone in the audience turns to Linda. The audience in particular emits the traditional crowd gasp sound effect.
KATIE (unsecure and worried at the same time): Well, not exactly, you see…
Linda interrupts Katie with a loud yell. Rick and Katie look at each other; they know what to do in these cases. They get up and wave their arms in desperation.
RICK: Everyone leave the building, quick!
KATIE: Code Lavender! Code Lavender!
Rick and Katie’s efforts are worthless. Linda angrily heads towards the stage throwing away every seat (all with an audience member on them) she finds on her path. Once Linda is on stage, she runs towards every Encanto LA crew member, grabs and throws them into the air. She then runs at the three hostesses, who all try to escape.
LINDA: YOU THREE, GET ANIMATION OUT OF YOUR F**KING MOUTHS!!!
Linda grabs the three and also throws them into the air. All the live action audience members, by now, have left the building in fear. Abuela, through a movement of her arm, draws the Madrigals’ attention to Linda. They all get on stage in an attempt to stop her. All, that is, except for Dolores, Felix, Agustín, Mirabel and Bruno. Dolores mumbles and covers her ears.
DOLORES: Ugh, those steps!
The attempts of the remaining Madrigals to stop Linda, still, are in vain. A storm cloud appears over Pepa. From it, a thunder catches The Lavender One. However, she somehow survives said thunder, but ends up looking cartoonishly calcinated (i.e. turns completely gray and smoke rises from her body). This, nonetheless, doesn’t stop her from throwing Pepa in the air, running towards Julieta, snatching the arepita con queso the latter had at hand and eating it. In a second, her calcinated body turns back to normal. She throws Julieta away too. Antonio then uses his arm to command the animals (except for the deadpan capibaras) to throw themselves into her. They all do at once, but Linda, in just two arm movements, grabs and throws them away with ease, leopard included. Isabela summons two large flowers to tangle her up, but Linda rips them off, again, easily. She heads towards Isa, grabs and throws her away. Meanwhile, Mirabel reaches Katie, who is watching everything calmly.
KATIE: No offence to your family, but I think they deserve this.
MIRABEL: Yeah, I guess you’re right.
Amin reaches the two girls.
AMIN: Do you want to know something kids? After that awful speech about animation, I won’t trust the Academy anymore.
KATIE: Same here Mr. Nawabi. Oh, by the way, I watched your movie. And I LOVE it. It’s incredible how…
Katie gets interrupted by a screech from her mum. The fight is still going strong. Linda has just thrown Camilo away. Luisa grabs a column pillar with both hands and heads with it towards Linda. Linda, with just one hand, grabs said pillar and throws both it and Luisa towards the roof, breaking it. The Mitchell mum breathes in and out, still in rage. Almost every Madrigal has been knocked out and the theater has been ruined. Suddenly, Abuela stands up.
ABUELA: Alright, that’s enough Señora Mitchell!
Linda looks towards Abuela while calming herself down. Luisa falls back down, breaking the roof yet again.
ABUELA: What a shame! I know you’re angry because we won the Award, but that’s no way of treating us!
Linda lowers her head in shame.
ABUELA (cont'd): But don't worry! To solve our rivalry. I suggest you to go with your family to our Casita Madrigal. We'll throw a big party there!
Pepa gets surprised and a storm cloud appears over her again.
ABUELA (cont’d): The other nominees are also invited! The Casita pays!
Linda thinks about it and gets calmed and cheerful all of a sudden. She finally gets off the stage and joins the rest of the Mitchells, who all are puzzled at what has just happened. Pepa, still accompained by her storm cloud, approaches Abuela in anger.
PEPA: What are you thinking?! They will all trash out Casita!
ABUELA: (Giggles) I know. You'll soon see.
CUT TO: Casita, some hours later.
Casita opens up her doors. The floors’ tiles push the Mitchells, Monchi, Raya, Sisu, Amin and the Luca trio outside. They all fall on each other. The doors close. A roof tile from over the door goes up and down continuously as a way to wave them goodbye. The Madrigals, with Abuela having their Oscar at hand, see it all through a window.
KATIE: You know mom? It's still not too late to bring "The Lavender One" back.
Linda's face gets hot and her pupils shrink again. Cue the yelling.

Hc: if the real madrigals somehow got to Disneyland and saw the encanto attraction there, they would be uncomfortable with there personal life being Flanderized into bit sized children entertainment, Bruno and Camilo would be weirded out by all the fans they have, Isabela would be upset that the only mech they have on her is her “perfect self” instead of her real self. I don’t know about the rest of the madrigals but I’ll think about it in a later ask.
ooh this is an interesting take! I think their reactions also depend on if in this universe they were celebrities, fictional characters, or just regular guests.
They would dwfinitely get weirded out though, and I think Bruno might get overwhelmed from all the people coming up to him (and being weird). Camilo could at least shapeshift into someone else for a while if need be though that wouldn't be ideal.
You're also so right about Isabela. It would be frustrating to only see yourself as the "perfect" form, especially when that wasn't her. She would totally eye roll at that

Since I rather have my original stuff organized, I leave my reblogs in a specific general purpose blog, you can check it out if you want -- I’m mostly online there since its sole purpose is to be fed reblogged posts.
Despite being used as a rp-ask-fictional-journal once, I want to expand this blog into my little Frozen corner where i share rambles, opinions, rants, observations, headcanons and so on.
As a fan, my ships are (they’re 99% Elsa, yes. I don’t have strong feelings about Anna dating anyone, which is ironic since Elsa is the one confirmed uninterested in romance, just bear with me anyways; don’t quote me on the ship names, I usually don’t like them that much and I can’t always remember each):
Elsa x Jack Frost (Jelsa) Elsa x Tadashi Hamada (Tadelsa) Elsa x Hans (Helsa)
Elsa x Fa Mulan Elsa x Merida (Merelsa) Elsa x Honeymaren (Elsamaren) Elsa x Isabela Madrigal (Elsabela)
Iduna x Agnarr

Not a part two but I thought it was a funny concept and had to do it. This is in relation to my Madrigal Mixup series where they all switch powers spontaneously and as you can see, Camilo has Isabela’s powers.

➸ 𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 - miscommunication :: i think mirabel would be the type to give you gifts instead of try to fix the problem, i mean dont get me wrong that is pretty cute, but it kinda shows that she doesnt want to have a serious conversation, and that shes trying to distract you from the misunderstanding you had with her. ➸ 𝗹𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗮 - thinks she doesnt deserve you :: i think luisa believes that she isnt worth any type of love you can give, she’ll reject your gifts, kind gestures, and even words of affirmation. ➸ 𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗮 - wouldnt be in a relationship :: i think that isabela is the elsa of encanto. she doesnt need a man to be contented. she is an independent and brave woman, she doesnt need a man in her life! (stan isabela) ➸ 𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 - would fall inlove with somebody else :: no explanation. ➸ 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗼 - he would get bored :: i think camilo would get bored and fall out of love in your relationship, but he’ll try his best to reassure you that it isnt your fault. ➸ 𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗼 - thinks you deserve better :: bruno thinks he wont be able to treat you the way you deserve, but he loves you unconditionally and thought that it would be better if you werent together. ➸ 𝗽𝗲𝗽𝗮 - has anger issues :: i think you and pepa would constantly have arguements and pepa would never apologize first.(this is why i love felix) ➸ 𝗷𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮 - would prioritize anyone but the relationship :: i think julieta would put your relationship last but unintentionally. julieta cares about the town a lot and she would work hard to make sure everyone’s okay, and eventually would be too worn out to spend time with you.

[ID: In the drawing shown are three pairs of characters that form a fan-fictional Pibby team. At the top is Kyojuro Rengoku, viewed from the side with a smile and staring to the right. He was carrying the box that Nezuko sleeps in, implying that now she was in his care. Blood stains his haori.
In the middle right is Isabela Madrigal holding her baby cousin, Antonio. She held him in her arms in a reassuring manner, a hand resting on his back as her stare was blank and empty. Antonio rests his head on her shoulder, crying and afraid. Their clothes were torn as a fabric from Isabela’s dress was used to dress a wound on her baby cousin’s leg. Blood stains her dress as both were covered in bruises and scratches.
And in the last pair at the left corner was Master Piandao comforting Aang. Both are seen with tired and empty expressions as Piandao rests a hand on the airbender’s shoulder. There was a scar seen on the swordsman’s face, from the bridge of his nose and down his left cheek. His hair was down and tied into a pony tail. Both Aang and Piandao are covered in bruises and scratches. A yellow light splays over the pairs as well as a glitchy effect. End of ID.]
After seeing some Learning With Pibby fan-teams that consisted of cartoon characters, I decided to make myself a ragtag team of traumatized kids and depressed adults.

Your wish is my command, @sophiasi1172 !!!
Sequel to this.
Word Count: Around 1700.
*****
A full week had passed since Mirabel's disastrous Gift ceremony, and the energy in Casita was still… unusual.
A dark cloud hung heavy over the entire town, but no one was sure whether it was Pepa's worry for the Miracle or Bruno's disappearance that conjured it.
Perhaps both.  All anyone knew was she and Julieta spent much of their days hunting high and low for their missing brother, hopes growing dimmer with each passing day.
Alma spent her time hiding in her room, clutching the candle for dear life, and on the rare occasion she ventured out, barking orders at anyone who was around.
The kids all felt terrible, no one knowing what to say when all the adults in their lives were in such distress.
But no one felt worse than poor Mirabel, who was seldom seen these days.  She'd been refusing to sleep in her own bed all week, spending both her days and nights holed away in the safety of her parents' bedroom.
But life did eventually have to move on, and Agustín was willing to put on a brave face if it meant getting his daughters to smile again.
He had just checked on Luisa in bed, watching for a moment as her chest rose and fell in gentle breaths.  With a kiss to her forehead, he pulled the blankets higher under her chin, taking extra care to make sure her large collection of stuffed animals were all tucked in comfortably beside her.
Mirabel, he knew, would be in bed beside Julieta when he eventually retired for the night… whether or not she slept would be another story.
That left Isabela, who wasn't in her room when Agustín passed by, despite the late hour.  He hummed under his breath.  The entire house was quiet, everyone else safely nestled into their beds, so he wasn't sure where his eldest had ended up.
He wandered throughout the house, making sure all the candles were blown out, and nothing was amiss before he prepared himself for bed.  Just as he walked into the kitchen, he saw her.
Isabela was seated at the table, her long hair falling down in a curtain in front of her face.  She looked like she may have been crying at one point, although her face was now dry.
"Isa?"
Isabela looked up at him as he stood in the doorway.
"Oh.  Hi, Papi,"  She said.  "I'm okay!"
Agustín tutted.  "Are you?"  He walked over to her and laid a hand on her shoulder.
"Perfect."
Agustín hated that word.  Everyone had used that word to describe his daughter since the moment she was born.  Sure, she was perfect in his eyes, but it wasn't the same coming from someone else.  Not when it came riddled with expectations.
"You don't have to be okay,"  Agustín said with a squeeze to her shoulder.  "But I know what'll make you feel better."
"Your famous hot chocolate?"
"Precisely,"  Agustín may not have been a gourmet in the kitchen, but he made a damn good hot chocolate, if he did say so himself.
(Possibly even better than Julieta's, although he'd never tell her so.)
He made his way over to the stove and prepared the treat, while Isabela sat quietly at the table, tracing shapes on the wooden surface with her finger.
For a time, the only noises that were heard were the sounds of Agustín moving throughout the kitchen.  The stirring of a pot, opening of the ice box, a curse or two when he burned his hand. ("Don't repeat that.")
"Papi?"  Isabela's soft voice cut through the quiet of the room.
"Hmm?"
"Is Mirabel… gonna be alright?"
Agustín sighed.  He knew the stress was hard on everyone these days, but he hated that it was affecting the kids.  Poor Dolores had barely spoken a word in days, Mirabel was rarely seen without tear stains, and even Camilo's smile didn't quite reach his eyes as it usually did.
"She will, Amor,"  Agustín assured his daughter, ladling out two mugs of the sweet drink.  "It might take time, but she will."
He brought the cups over to the table and set them down.  Isabela immediately pulled one toward herself, wrapping her small hands around it.
"Hang on,"  Agustín said.  "You forgot the best part."  He rooted through the cabinet for a moment, until he found what he was looking for.
"Marshmallows,"  Isabela said, a small smile on her lips.
It may have been a small smile, but Agustín was glad to see it nonetheless.
"I know they're your favorite,"  Agustín said, scooping a handful into her mug, before plopping a few into his own.  "Salut."
They clinked their mugs together, and sat in silence for awhile.
"It's okay to be upset, Isa,"  Agustín said, blowing on his drink before taking a tentative sip.
"I'm not upset,"  She insisted, picking a marshmallow out and eating it.
"Okay,"  Agustín said, not believing her for a second.  "But it's okay if you are.  There have been a lot of changes around here lately."
"Papi, if you don't mind, I don't really wanna talk about this right now."
Agustín nodded, respecting her wishes.
Isabela took a few sips of her drink, and Agustín smiled when she put her cup down, a hot chocolate mustache on her lip.  Despite the front she put on, she was still a silly kid deep down.
"Ay, your mustache rivals mine!"  Agustín said, running a finger across his lip with a smirk.
Isabela touched her lip, her cheeks burning a soft pink.  "Papi, please."
Agustín smiled, handing her a napkin.
"So, I overheard you girls the other night,"  He said, dropping a few extra marshmallows into each of their cups.  "When you had that sleepover."
"You were snooping."
"I would never,"  Agustín threw a hand over his heart, an offended look on his face.  "I simply had to use the facilities, and happened to pass your room on the way."
"Mhm,"  Isabela didn't look convinced.  "What did you hear, exactly?"
"Oh… nothing much,"  Agustín peered at her over the rim of his mug.  "Just something about you kissing boys."
Isabela spat a mouthful of hot chocolate out, coughing for a moment before composing herself.
Agustín chuckled, handing her another napkin.  "So, the rumors are true."
"Papiiii,"  She whined.  "That's so embarrassing!"
"I know, my little girl?  Kissing already?"  Agustín shuddered.  "That means I'm getting old."
"You are old,"  Isabela said with a smirk.
"Got me there."
A beat.
"So who was it?"
"Papi, I'm not going to tell you that!"
"Why not?  Is he your boyfriend?"  Agustín wiggled his eyebrows at her, delighting in the embarrassed look on her face.
"N… no,"  Isabela said.  "He's not my boyfriend."
"Why not?"
"He's gross."
"Then why did you kiss him?"
"I didn't know he was gross until I kissed him,"  She said.  "But he is."
"How so?"  Agustín furrowed his brow.  "Did he try something?"
He felt a paternal sense of anger swell in his chest.  She was only eleven, he'd hoped to put off this conversation for a few years, but he was well aware how people already looked at her… even those who definitely shouldn't.  If he had done anything to hurt or make her uncomfortable he wou-
"Papi."
"He's a dead man,"  Agustín said, lowering his mug, the ceramic clinking against the table.  "Tell me his name."
"Papi, no,"  Isabela insisted.  "He just smells bad.  It's okay!"
"Hmm,"  Agustín wasn't swayed.  "Well, who does he think he is, kissing my baby without a proper bath?"
He was teasing, but he also couldn't rid himself of the feeling of dread.  His girls were growing up right in front of him, and all he wanted was to shield them from the world.
"Well, if he tries any funny business, let me know."  Agustín said, draining his cup.  "Your papa will not stand for any funny business."  He jabbed a finger into the air to prove his point.
"You've got it,"  Isabela said, draining her own.  "But also, I'm not going to do that."
"It won't be needed anyway,"  Agustín said.  "Since you won't be kissing anyone else until you're thirty."
"Papi!"
"I'm serious!"  He said, standing to move their cups into the sink.  "The only boy who is allowed to kiss you is me."
To accentuate his point, he leaned down and kissed the top of her head.  "Got that?"
"Got it."  Isabela giggled, before letting out a yawn.
"It's well past your bedtime,"  Agustín said, reaching out a hand.  "Why don't we get you upstairs?"
"I can't believe I still have a bedtime,"  Isabela pouted, but took his hand.  "Dolores doesn't."
"Dolores has never stayed up past nine o'clock in her life,"  Agustín reminded her.  "You, little lady, would stay awake until dawn if we let you."
Isabela huffed, but allowed her father to lead her to her room.
Agustín sneezed upon entering, the flowers aggravating his never-ending list of allergies, but ignored it as he helped Isabela into bed.
"Goodnight, you,"  Agustín pulled the covers up over her shoulders, planting another kiss on her head.  "Stop growing up so fast."
"Papi, I can't…"  Isabela yawned again.  "Can't help it."
Agustín sighed.  "I know, Amor.  I know."
"G'night,"  Isabela muttered, before rolling onto her side and quickly falling asleep.
Agustín patted her shoulder, before quietly edging out of the room, impressing himself by only tripping over one flower pot in the process.
He stretched and let out a yawn of his own as he made his way to his bedroom.  He pushed the door open to find Mirabel snuggled comfortably in Julieta's arms, sound asleep.
"I was wondering when you might join us,"  Julieta said, scooching over on the bed to make room for him to sit.
"Isabela needed me,"  Agustín said, toeing off his shoes, and laying beside her.
"Is she alright?"  Julieta's eyebrows knitted together in concern.
"She's fine,"  Agustín assured her.  "I made her some hot chocolate."
"With marshmallows?"
"As if there's any other way to drink hot chocolate,"  He scoffed.  He gently took Mirabel from her.  "They're getting so old, you know."
"I know,"  Julieta turned to her side to play with Mirabel's curls.  "Our big girls."
"Can't they still be babies, for a little while?"
Mirabel sighed in her sleep, nestling deeper into her father's embrace.
"Yeah,"  Julieta said, nuzzling into her pillow, her eyes falling shut.  "Maybe for a little while."

For all those Encanto fans who are mad that Abuela Madrigal's change of heart wasn't earned or that it's not realistic for her to do it so quickly - here's the thing. It's not realistic. Because this is fiction. Fiction is made to be better than life.
Look. I get it. I come from a family of generational trauma on both sides. I'm still feeling the effects of it - Surface Pressure, anyone? - and I know as well as anyone that its so, so hard to overcome, especially when you're closely enmeshed with the family member(s) in question.
So yes, it's unrealistic. I know it is. But fiction is made to give us hope and show us that the dragons (or demons, or wounds) can be overcome. And recall, Abuela isn't the only one who had to heal from the trauma. Obviously she's the main source of it just by virtue of her past, but she passed it on to Bruno, Isabela, and all the family. And they were able to heal in a way that seems so much more attainable. I haven't seen a single person complain that Isabela's character growth wasn't earned. I haven't seen anyone say that Bruno wasn't in the right to leave the toxic situation, but both of them are just as "quick" to do it in movie time. So why is it so bad that Abuela goes through that process so quickly? It's a movie made for children, and it's okay if it's a little unrealistic in timing. The timing isn't the important thing. This movie is written to give hope to the audience that healing can come one way or another.

I watched Encanto and next night i had THE MO
GET PREPARED IT’S LONG AS SPICINESS OF A JALAPENO PEPPER
Ok ok so i was this shy artist-naturalist who came to the land of Colombia on a ship with some shady crew(which will be explained later) and i needed some guide to navigate me through forest to draw some plants and nature.
I go ask about it and then the Madrigal family shows up and they all are so sparkly and magical and etc. and i look at them & notice Isabela and she’s walking so pretty with all these flowers and colors and all that I just stand there quitly in awe of how gorgeous she is and then someone snaps at me "gal did you needed guide to help you or what”.
So while I explain what I need eventually Mirabel shows up and suggests she helps me and I gladly agree. While we walk into the forest and I look around in amazement she tells me about Colombia and about the Madrigal family and magical powers, I frequently ask about Isabela and other shit Mirabel jokingly asks if I fall in love for Isabela and if i did then it’s a bad decision and when I asked her why she explained that her sister doesn’t want to deal with everything super perfect and ideal and stuff so I just shut off and sit on a random boulder to sketch some flowers, Mirabel sits nearby and continues to talk about what was happening in the past of Encanto. And while we were sitting, I doodled Mirabel and asked about other family members and stuff.
While we were having conversation she invited me to have a dinner with her family since it was getting dark and port was farther than her house. We are walking out of the forest when Mirabel notices that i doddled her in my notepad and awes at how beatiful she was in it and asks if she can keep it and I teared page off for her.
When we got to the house, I was stunned that Casita was really an alive house. So I’m timidly walking into the house while Mirabel introduces me to everyone and I’m getting super shy and nervous and quiet, so when we all sit at the table they ask me about myself and other places where i’ve been and amaze from my stories about snow that lies everywhere, about places were rain falls almost daily, and other places i’ve been and naturalized along for my short period on different ships, different countries and views, and how I’m always mostly alone on my journey and how I should tag alone with a pet or a guy to keep me company, to which I said that I have two pets, which are two falcons that help me sending letters to my family and to a naturalist club that i’m working with and who sents me money to travel futher. At some point, Isabela, who didn’t talked in this whole conversation, asked so you draw flowers huh and I’ve stunned for a moment then began turning red and mumble “WeLl- uUm- noT oNLy FloWerS- yOU KNow,,,,, rocks and mountains and trees as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,” then I tried to beg off the table and to return to the ship to sleep there, but Madrigals insisted for me to stay for a night and Mirabel suggested to have a sleepover so I shyly agreed to stay.
jesus christ i’m tired of writing it up in english is someone would even be interested in this strange form of isekai and y/n x Isabela fan fiction from a random girl

Consider..... post-canon madrigals looking through the old photo albums together 🥺👀
"So," Bruno laughed nervously, rubbing his hand up and down his arm.  "What did I miss?"
And that was how Bruno found himself in what was once the front lawn of the Casita, Antonio on his knee while the rest of the family rooted through the rubble.
"What're they doing?"  He muttered, causing the little boy to shrug in reply.  It was amazing how quickly Antonio had warmed up to his tío, but Bruno certainly wasn't going to complain.  He was a great kid.
"Here's one!"  Luisa exclaimed, waving a white book over her head.  "Looks like Mirabel's got one as well!"
"One here too,"  Dolores said, the purple-bound book in her hands covered in dust.
"And here!"  Isabela chimed in.
It wasn't until Pepa unearthed a blue one, did Bruno realize what they were searching for.  Photo albums.  From all the time he'd spent hiding away in the walls.
Sure, he had heard bits and pieces of dinner conversation, but he knew he had missed so much.  Birthdays, holidays, anniversaries.  He'd missed his own fiftieth birthday, for God's sake.
Once the family was satisfied with their findings, they returned to the grass and sat beside Bruno and Antonio.
"This one was taken when I turned seven,"  Camilo pointed out, a birthday hat perched on his head, the camera caught him morphed somewhere between himself and Isabela.
"And this one is when I turned seven,"  Mirabel said, pointing to a different shot, where she scowled as Camilo tried to blow out the candles on her cake.
"This one is from Pepa and Félix's anniversary…"  Julieta murmured, her fingers moving gently over the photos, a small smile on her face.
"And here's when Pepa made it tornado just because Félix complimented her that very same day,"  Agustín teased, chuckling at the state of Félix's hair, blowing wildly in the heavy winds.
"If you had heard the compliment, you would have tornadoed too," Pepa said, scowling as her cheeks turned a bright pink.
Bruno half expected some sort of raincloud to appear overhead from the ribbing, Pepa had never taken well to teasing; but he quickly remembered that the magic was gone, as evidenced by Mirabel blowing Casita dust off of another album.
He didn't mind though, as he watched his family laugh and point out different things in the photos.  No magic could ever replace a moment like this.  He hadn't realized how much he had missed.
"Hey, here's one from my Gift Ceremony!"  Antonio leapt from Bruno's lap, grabbing the album and holding it out for everyone to see.
"Antonio, that was only three days ago,"  Camilo said, rolling his eyes.  "Where's one from my Ceremony?"
"But Tío Bruno hasn't seen it,"  Antonio handed the album to the uncle in question, and Bruno took it, looking at each face individually.
Seeing them all after ten years was rather shocking, honestly.  Julieta now had a considerable amount of gray hair, Pepa had wrinkles (although he daren't ever mention it), Agustín had grown his mustache in again, and Félix had put on a few pounds around the middle.  Even his own mother looked different.  Older, more tired.
And that was saying nothing about the kids.  It was amazing how much of a difference a decade could make.  The last time he'd seen Luisa he could still pick her up, and now she was twice his size and three times his weight in pure muscle.
Bruno scanned the picture, doing a quick head count.  Something was missing… no, someone.
"Hey kid, where were you?"  Bruno leaned over to Mirabel, who was occupying herself looking through her parents' wedding photos.  "They didn't make you take the picture, did they?"
"No,"  Mirabel said swiftly, flipping a page.
"What are you talking about, of course Mirabel is in it,"  His mother snatched the album from his hands and Bruno watched as her eyes scanned the page, and could see the moment she realized.  "Oh, Mirabel…"
"What?  It's nothing,"  Mirabel shrugged.
"No it's not,"  Julieta said, crawling over to sit by her youngest daughter.  "That was a family photo, you were supposed to be in it!"
"It's fine, Mamá!"  Mirabel insisted.  "Ew, are these honeymoon pictures?"
Camilo tried reaching for the album, but Agustín's hands were quicker.  "That's enough of that one, thank you."
"Wait, Mira isn't in a lot of these,"  Antonio commented, flipping through a few pages.  There were individual photos of each of the kids; Isabela wearing a crown made of daisies, Camilo contorting his face into funny expressions, but very few of just Mirabel.
Even some of the group shots excluded her, or she was off to the side.
"Mirabel, I hadn't realized…"  Julieta began to flip through a few pages, and Bruno saw tears pool in the corners of her eyes.  "We didn't mean to exclude you."
"I understand, I'm not that interesting,"  Mirabel said with another shrug.  "Hey, here's one of me!"
Bruno winced as he recognized it as from the night he left.
From her failed Gift Ceremony.
Was that really what it all came down to?  Had Mirabel really fallen through the cracks so much that nobody even noticed if she was missing from a family photo?
Maybe his leaving hadn't protected her as much as he thought it would.
"I don't ever want to hear you say that again,"  Agustín said, wrapping Mirabel in his arms and squeezing her until she giggled and blushed red.
"Me either,"  Julieta agreed, wrapping her arms around the two of them and plastering kisses all over her face.
"Hey, quit it," Mirabel protested, squirming in their grasp.
She'd almost gotten away when Isabela joined in, followed by Luisa, and Antonio.
Before Bruno could process fully what was happening, the entire family was suddenly circled around his youngest niece, encapuring her in a giant group hug, whoever was closest to her face pressing kisses onto the available space.
"Get over here, Bruno!"  Félix said, waving an arm.  "Come show Mirabel how much you missed her!"
Bruno wasn't about to deny that.  He had missed her.  He'd missed all of them.
He didn't even have a chance to hesitate as Pepa grabbed his arm, and pulled him into the embrace.
It was cramped, and hot, and everyone smelled of sweat and rubble… but it was soft, and warm, and felt like home.
He'd almost forgotten what it was like to get a hug from the Family Madrigal.
"I think we need another picture,"  Antonio announced, as the hug slowly eased up and broke apart, Mirabel's glasses crooked and hair disheveled from being the center of the heap.  "One with everybody."
"That's the best idea I've heard all day, kid,"  Bruno said, scooping his nephew into his arms, as Dolores retrieved the camera - shockingly still functioning after the house collapsed.
They all crammed together, tight enough that Bruno could feel Isabela's elbow digging into his ribs and Agustín stepping on his foot - but he didn't mind.  Not in the slightest.
"Okay everyone,"  Dolores said, as she set up the timer and quickly moved in front of the camera, squeezing between her mother and grandmother.  "Say 'La Familia Madrigal!"
"¡La Familia Madrigal!"
