Takes! Pharah
Four ways I’ve come to see Pharah, again, unsurprisingly, heavily influenced by you but also I had a little more space for her to begin to develop perhaps more alongside/outside of your fic as well.
>Pharah is a very dedicated, determined, and ambitious character who always pushes herself to be the best she can, and this has gotten her far in life. I put all three of those in one because I think they’re the threads of the braid that make up who she that got her to Helix/Overwatch.
>Despite her accomplishments and dedication and even pride, I don’t think she’s of the ‘I am always right’ category. She’s not trying to impose her will for the sake of power or ambition, etc. It’s not that she finds herself unfailing that she can believe in herself to the point of taking command or pushing herself far, but simply that she is grounded in who she is. Can that come off at times as though she knows what’s best for others? Sure. But it’s not out of a place of presumption but rather a ‘this has worked in the past and until you have a better idea why the hell not do it my way?’
>My take on the Pharah/Ana thing actually has always been that she received the letter from Ana very early on and didn’t actually think Ana dead for all that long, and that changes some dynamics I think from your Pharah. I also think that in Pharah’s personal life, she generally holds herself to a standard of truthfulness and honesty when she can, but she is well practiced in keeping secrets and sitting on sensitive information. Ana pretending to be dead straddled that line in a way that I think she struggled with in complicated ways that I think she harbors anger and resentment about, especially as I think Pharah would see Ana taking this route out as cowardly. And I think it’s all exacerbated by the fact that I don’t know if my Pharah is ready to let her personal feelings on all this trump the good she believes her mother did for the world. Was a little neglect as a kid/now undo any of the work her mother put in for the world? When does a person cross the line from living their own life and sacrificing for more than their own family and letting their child down? I don’t know if I see a total coming down on one side for her on that for a very long time. (But Mercy sure has feelings about it all!)
>Pharah marries Mercy and they are in a relationship, and while my take is that it’s perhaps more fraught than your version because I do like to imagine some extra tension between their beliefs about Overwatch/military-type stuff and whatnot in general, they are canon! Insert here my beleaguered harping on Blizzard being cowards for trying to nope out of it with the whole Mercy/machine man thing here.
I need to start trying to come up with simpler answers XD

Preferences! Melisandre, Michiru, Marisa Coulter, and Rose Armitage (Get Out)
Okay, let's do this and see how hard it is.
4) Rose Armitage. I had to look her up to see if she was the mom or the daughter. Which I'm actually okay with. I don't think the white people from Get Out are supposed to be multi-faceted three dimensional people, they're supposed to be just caricatures of various types of racism. Rose, I think, is supposed to be the girl who dates a black guy and acts like it's amazing that she's dating a black guy.
3) Melisande. For the life of me, I can't figure out what rubs me wrong about her. I dislike her but not in the fun way or the interesting way a good villian is done but I just dislike her. Which is weird because she's a well-written three dimensional character and has some fascinating character traits. But something about her just bugs me. I'm hoping with my reread I can pin down what's happening there.
2) Marisa Coulter. HIS DARK MATERIALS SPOILER AHEAD (for Jet). So it's been quite a while since my last reread of it so this is going off my rather patchy memory. She's fascinating and very well done. She manages to break out of the traditional feminine roles while still being very feminine. She's ruthless but that moment where she rushes in, absolutely terrified that Lyra has gone through intercision has always stuck with me. It's such a moment of terrified love from a woman who is otherwise incredibly self-contained.
1) Michiru. Queen of my heart. Doc has converted me to the Michiru way and there is no turning back. I love so much about her. Her do or die attitude when it comes to protecting her. The fact that she approaches so much in life as though it will disappoint her, but that's fine, because everyone and everything does. Her judgemental air. I love that she's always one Haruka death away from being in a villain. I love her.

Book: What book has had the most impact on your life, and (if you’re willing to share) why?
I’m going to go with Alanna/In the Hand of the Goddess by Tamora Pierce. It’s a book I read pretty early on that I think very much shaped my interests. Characters felt dynamic, Two good guys could argue and be mad at each other but not be made ‘bad guys.’ Deceit was more complex than just ‘lying.’ Found family? Blood family letting you down? Fraught romances? But all within a fantasy world with magic and shit. Which was where my interests were. I tried on several ‘hats’ because of this book. Alanna is hot tempered and blunt and brave, and I think I literally sort of ‘tried her on for size’ and found that I wasn’t really suited to being hot tempered, and I kinda made the blunt thing work for me but in a format that felt more right for me. One that took compassion as a very important element to it. And I think in many ways I learned how to be brave by trying Alanna on. It’s not that ‘being her’ is what did it, but it helped me learn how to make it work for me. It shaped what sort of books I picked up through my childhood. And I continued reading Pierce’s work which really has felt like it grew in many ways the same way as she went on. Her books today are much greater than her firsts were. So it just feels right to say it.

Redesign -Tutu!
Between really not knowing much of anything about ballet and generally liking Tutu’s design well enough, I think I’d keep the color palette and maybe lengthen the skirt and give her sleeves. Perhaps something more like this:
Tumblr media
I apologize to any ballet people who know the significance of the different styles and colors. I think I’d remove the fluffy part along the top and maybe go for something silk. I’d remove the design on the front so it’s simple white and maybe a ribbon along the top of the skirt of the pink that’s used in Tutu’s design. I’d also probably try to find a way to swap the skirts so the length of the inner skirt was the outside and white, but the layer that’s longer and comes down is the pink, again, keeping the general feel of Tutu’s original. The shoes and even the arm puffs can stay the same from the animated Tutu outfit, but also can she just have the bracelet on one wrist instead of both? I don’t know why that kind of bugs me but it does.
That’s the best I can come up with. Haha. I’ve never felt particularly compelled to change Tutu’s outfit though.

Outfit! I'm gonna be a little different here. Instead of building a look, what are some favorite pieces of clothing you own? It could be something you turn to a lot or something you save for big moments. Maybe even just the first things to come to mind!
This was fun! I’m lazy so it took me forever to do this, but I’ve been looking forward to it. It’s honestly not much but whatever.
In my heart of hearts, I’m always at least a little bit goth. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Tumblr media
The jacket is a real leather jacket my dad got my mom sometime around her 16th birthday, which makes it 4 years older than me. I don’t have many occasions to wear it, but I love it.
The undershirt was my backup under shirt for my wedding, which I actually did pull out when we threw on some jams and a couple of us rocked out. My other undershirt would have had my boobs falling out with any real movement XD
Mostly the rest is just fun stuff. You can’t really see the dangly earring I’m wearing, but it’s got a celtic knot and was a gift from a friend who I was maid of honor for. They’re great.
But yeah. This was fun. I was hoping to wear at least a similar outfit out clubbing with the aforementioned friend one of these days... but.... here we are XD

Outfit: What would you wear to a fancy senshi dinner party?
If I had to come up with an outfit right now from what I currently have in my home... well... it’s not at all my general style, but I think I’d go with this outfit.
Tumblr media
Ever so slightly reminiscent of the sailor outfit, and I think I’d fit in with the girls in this... you know... aside from being twice their age and that only all the more obvious in this outfit. Haha.

Why did you first pick up Kushiel and what age? Then telling me why you love it.
Ha! I actually have record of the year I read Chosen and Avatar which are both 2006, so I assume that’s true of Dart as well. All things considered, this was my senior year of high school. My stepmother is a big book person and has quite the home library, and I found it on her shelves. I think the graphic drew me in. A topless woman with an extravagant back tattoo?? Yes please! Also my ex was a bit of a masochist, so when I read the concept of Phedre as an anguissette, I was quite intrigued! The concept drew me in. It was pretty dense for me back then, with all the politics and all the exposition, but I quickly fell in love with Phedre.
So why do I love it? Phedre. I love Phedre so much. Like the world building is neat and all, and the ‘love as thou wilt’ society was really refreshing as a young wlw and where in other worlds the sort of queer culture the book uses would be this taboo oppression the characters would have to fight against, it’s just taken as casual stuff. Phedre only stands out because she’s the only anguissette and less what that means for her.
But I had been reading for years about the warrior heroines, which I love. But this helped draw me back into the idea that warrior women are not the only ways for women to be strong, compelling, or even powerful. Phedre is seen as just a courtesan, but she’s still powerful in so many ways that are taken for granted and I adore all the ways she is acknowledged for that and the ways it is explored.
I don’t think I appreciated Joscelyn well at the time. When I first read it he mostly annoyed me or I felt a bit indifferent to him. Like I appreciated him and didn’t hate him as things went on or anything, but I wasn’t there for him. Now I appreciate him all the more and really, really need to do that reread of book two. XD

Empty: top 5 games that don't take a whole lot of thought to enjoy/play
—Untitled Goose Game
—Gris
Both of these he feels transfers over from the last post to this one. “In terms of puzzle difficulty, they’re about the same.” Which of course coming from him is... well... you probably know from his streams. Puzzles are his thing. I’m still salty about his Superliminal stream XD BUT, I have seen people much less natural with puzzles play and enjoy these two games, so I do still agree.
—Spyro Reignited Trilogy
—Sayonara Wild Hearts. So... he’s never actually played this, but he says it seems to fit these parameters and he’s gotten it on good recommendation.
—What Remains of Edith Finch (He’s been meaning to get me to do that one for a long time woops XD)

Who would you cast as the Princess if Usagi didnt exist? Who would you cast as the Leader if Minako didnt exist?
Ooh Rhio this is such a good question. I’m still figuring out the later, but for the former, well that was a trip.
Princess I spent a little time on each of the girls imagining, and I think there are interesting things one could do with any of them. At first I thought I might take the easy way out and go Minako. The anime after all brings her in for the fake-out and then often doesn’t seem to know what to do with her, so it would work pretty seamlessly if you ask me.
That being said, I ended up landing on Hotaru actually. Poor neglected Hotaru. But that’s honestly part of the reason I think it could be so interesting. Given that for many years what I’ve wanted out of Sailor Moon is an ensemble cast, I think that could nicely lend itself to it. She’s younger, giving the others perhaps a greater sense of needing to protect her. There’s a lot you could play with in terms of before they know she’s the princess but know she has this destructive force in her.
Hotaru is arguably the strongest senshi, having the ability to destroy an entire planet, and I think that could do such interesting things for a story. The princess doesn’t fight like the other senshi not because she isn’t capable or because that’s not her role, but because when she were to choose to fight, it would be on a much grander scale. It brings something to the royal line in the present that I don’t think Usagi does, which is a sense of intimidation. And god, imagine the potential for the senshi remembering that Saturn is the planet of destruction and that her awakening could mean the end of Earth and feeling the need to destroy her only to find out that she’s the princess, someone they’re meant to protect and listen to.
Because what is she also shown at least in the anime to be able to do? Heal. Even before she’s fully awakened. Without the possession of Mistress 9. Hotaru has the power to heal, so she still works as a function of healing and repair among the senshi and the planets. She can both destroy and repair. And I think that all really lends itself to the role of princess. That both of these things live within her and that her healing is such a core of her being but must be nourished. What is the risk of tipping the balance of her naturally healing powers if first she is targeted by the women supposed to protect her? I just... it’s a really fun idea that I really enjoy the prospect of playing with.
Leader I’m struggling a lot harder with this one. I like the idea I know Doc has played with before where Minako is preparing Rei to lead, but if she never existed? Never got the chance to prep her for that? Oof. That’s harder.
I’ve played with the idea of maybe a sort of joint leadership between Ami and Mako. I could see Ami coming up with strategies, and Mako just going with that, being the push behind the orders. But a leader needs to be able to adapt on the spot.
I think the next most likely to have the skills for it would be Michiru, but I don’t see her committing to it or making that effort. Isn’t it enough that she hasn’t walked away from her duty entirely?
So I think I’ve come to land on Pluto. She might not be the strongest leader entirely. I think, just all things considered of who and what she is, that she would have a natural detachment, calm that would keep her from investing in the way a leader should. But I think she could pull it off long enough and be a cool example well enough to position Rei into it. It’s no Minako mentorship, but I think it could work until Rei matured enough and learned to chill enough to make the quick, calculated decisions she would need to in order to be the leader. So I guess Pluto’s my answer with the caveat that i don’t see it lasting long. And I think when the time would come for Rei to take it up, Pluto would be happy to relinquish the mantle.

Ok so Saturn as the Princess right, how does SilMil get shifted? What parts of it do you feel like should be scrapped, reworked, or have something added in?
(this ask references the first part of this ask/answer)
I finally got something ficcy together in response to this! i kept changing my mind on how I wanted to do things/how I wanted the changes to look, including not making Usagi no longer exist but instead just shifting to the story so she’s a senshi and not Princess Serenity.  And there’s a lot of details that, if I would have done this in a non-fic fashion would be explained explicitly that’s instead more or less suggested at here but hey. You can always ask more questions if you want right? XD
One quick thing I will explain that’s not a result of the AU sort of changes I made: I’ve always disliked the idea of the senshi pretty much just being clones of their silmil selves, so if they don’t seem anything like the show, that’s intentional!
“Princess.” Venus addressed, standing before the girl and falling to one knee, bringing her head just below Saturn’s, eyes lowered. “I must beg of you, please permit me to return to Hephaestus. The comms we have been recieiving have been strange, and I have a bad feeling.“
Princess Serenity, Guardian of Saturn, Messiah, and Harbinger of Silence lifted her arms, palms up, and lightly touched each of her palms to the general’s cheeks, guiding Venus’s face up with the light touch. Venus gazed up at her, breath held.
“Dear Venus, I trust if you feel you must, then you shall go. You need not beg of me. Are we not close?” Saturn leaned forward, making sure she held Venus’s gaze.
Venus gave a slight nod, pushing her chin into the princess’s hands for a moment. “Of course pri- Saturn.” She stood then, Saturn’s hands falling away from her cheeks. She took a step back so Saturn could look her in the face comfortably, without craning her neck. “I will of course arrange a detail sure to keep you safe in my absence."
Saturn smiled up at her. "I trust you shall. Be safe Venus."
A curt bow, a hesitation, and then she left.
Saturn was sitting in counsel beside her mother and knew she would be reprimanded for her inattention once the proceedings concluded. But the insurrection was confirmed. Earth and everything inbound of it had cut all communications with The Kingdom. Neptune spoke of certainty now that a powerful evil was stretched across the spheres. The sun was darker these days even, posing a very real threat. One that could not be ignored. And it had seemed for a moment they were no longer clear where Mercury, Earth, and Venus stood. Which was why the two were surrounded by the other senshi, uneasily, as the two women in question stood temporarily stripped of their powers at the hands of Serenity. The sight of them like that as they were escorted into the great chamber sent a surge of rage through Saturn, and for a moment things hushed. She thought it was a reaction in her mind, but everyone looked to her now, and her mother had a reproachful look.
"I do not comprehend,” Saturn said in a low voice aimed to Queen Serenity “why this is necessary. They are powerful but not stupid enough to risk your wrath in your home."
"Someday you will understand my daughter.” Queen Serenity said soothingly, reaching out very briefly to touch the princess’s hand. But then she pulled back and held her hands once again elegantly before her person.
“Mercury, approach the dias.” Mercury stepped forward and knelt before the queen. As always, the hard exoskeleton did not convey emotion as Saturn understood them. She had grown to be able to recognize certain gestures, postures, but when she was formal like this, she was perfectly opaque.
Queen Serenity slowly lifted her hand, palm up, and a glowing orb formed within her palm. “You are compelled to relay only truths.” As the arm reached out, elbow just away from being extended, the palm began to turn down, a motion of twisting and releasing the orb toward Mercury, the rest of the arm perfectly still as the orb slipped, as though on a thread from Queen Serenity’s fingertips to the kneeling woman, until it touched Mercury’s forehead. Her insignia flared white hot there for a moment. A shudder seemed to cascade over her body before the white orb seemed to sink into her.
“I will speak only truth.” The words came softly, given freely but pained.
“Are you in league with our enemy?” Queen Serenity demanded.
“I am not.” Mercury replied.
“Did you know of their dealings?"
"I had my suspicions, which I passed on to the general."
"Do you sympathize with their plight?"
"No my queen."
The queen dropped her hand with a short, elegant flourish, and Mercury seemed to dim. A sigh of relief seemed to flow through her. "Your powers will begin to return to you. Your loyalty is assured."
Mercury bowed over her lifted knee before standing and backing away to her place among the other senshi, away from Earth.
"Earth, approach the dias."
Earth was one Saturn could read, with features she was more familiar with.  The woman came forward with defiance behind her eyes, and Saturn found her confidence in her companions waver.
The woman knelt, bowing her head but for a moment before lifting her chin to look up at her queen and accept the burden of truth. Upon being asked if she was in league with the enemy, the woman replied, "I fear that I may be connected with the plot, but the truth is that never knowingly would I have aided your enemies."
"Explain your meaning.” The queen said coldly.
“I have reason now to suspect that…” She seemed to struggle with the phrasing, breaking into a light sweat. “I do not believe my husband has aided the enemies. But it may be that through him they have gained information that has empowered these insurgents."
"I warned you many years ago that it is unwise to marry one of the subjects of your moon.” Queen Serenity replied, an edge of heat to her voice.
At this, Earth lowered her gaze. “It does seem to have encouraged the people."
"So you admit that it is Earth that the seed of this taint has flowed from?!"
"I have reason to believe that is so. I did not want to believe it to be true."
"Where do your loyalties lie Earth?” Queen Serenity demanded.
“With your daughter.” The answer came so quickly and sharply that the two women stared hard at each other, and Saturn found she held her breath and watched her mother. Queen Serenity wouldn’t like that the loyalty wasn’t to the Kingdom or to her.
“And you family?"
"I believe that my loyalties to your daughter align with my loyalty to my family."
"You know I cannot allow this to stand. You suspected all of this. Did you report it to any of my people?”
“I did not."
"For the sake of my daughter, I allowed for her guardians, once proven, to pursue lives outside of their guardianship as long as there was no interference. Yours has interfered, and as a consequence of this, you are stripped of all titles beyond your senshi duties.—” Queen Serenity made a cutting motion as Saturn impulsively made to object, but she did not divert her attention. “You have no loyalties to Luna. You have loyalties only to the moon kingdom. Therefore you are renamed. You are only Moon, a subject of our Kingdom. You are not to return to Luna or your family from here on out. If you should fail in your duties your remaining duties to protect my daughter, then you will forthwith be additionally stripped of your powers and risk ultimate consequences. Do you understand me?"
The woman kneeling at the bottom of the dais was deflated. Her head was bowed not in reverence but in defeat. Her back bowed. The room seemed to hold its breath as she slowly collected herself. "I understand. Is that all?"
With a glance at her daughter, Queen Serenity gave a nod. "Yes.” She said tersely. “That is all."
"Then I thank you for your mercy.” The now unnamed woman conceded.
The Queen gave another curt nod then closed her eyes, almost as though she were pained. “I believe that is more than we can tolerate for the time being. We shall reconvene on the morrow. For now, the counsel of Titan is dismissed."
The advisors and witnesses and moon ambassadors began trickling away in hushed whispers that sounded like a river running through underwater caverns. Saturn continue to stand to her mother’s left, still trying to process what had all happened. She found her eyes wouldn’t leave the figure of her senshi who had lost everything, and her heart ached for ways to make it better.
"Mother.” Saturn said suddenly, turning to face the Queen who had begun to retreat toward her private chambers.
“I am not going to hear it right now child. You have much to think on yourself. Like the very real possibility that there is another just as guilty among your senshi, who you give too much freedom."
Saturn stared and felt at a loss. She didn’t even know who her mother could mean for a moment, being utterly incapable of suspecting Venus. She shoved the thought aside and hurried after the retreating forms of her senshi. She caught them just outside and immediately took hold of Moon’s hands. The woman immediately tried to kneel, but Saturn held her close. "Is there anything I can do? I can try talking to Mother later. She won’t have me right now, but I can—”
“My princess please.” Moon’s tone was pleading. “I beg you not to. Your mother could have taken her wrath out on my family and I believe it is on your behalf that she did not.” Moon squeezed Saturn’s hands and gave them one firm shake, as if drawing power from her. “It is right, the measures she took. I did wrong by you in not taking action sooner on what I suspected. Your mother seeks only to make sure it never happens again. Please though, let us—let me go back to my quarters. I must compose myself and I fear I cannot just now. I would rather you see me like this no longer."
"But Moon—"
"Please my princess. I know I ask too much, but allow me some time to grieve alone."
Slowly, Saturn nodded, and she released Moon’s hands.
"I thank you.” She said, and as she turned away, Uranus’s arm slid along the woman’s shoulders, read to support her, and the group of guardians, all except Neptune who remained at her side, continued down the corridor. It did not escape Saturn that they went together, and that grieving alone meant grieving without Saturn there, and she ached for Venus, who was the only among them who would let the gap of sovereign and subject fall away between them. But she had returned to Venus’s moon shortly before their enemies had made come out of the shadows. Venus, was in the heart of the rebellion.

What are your top 5 ships across any fandom?
Ruuude. Hahahahaha.  I thought this was going to be hard but I guess it wasn’t? There were some close contenders, and maybe a different day a different ship would get knocked down in favor of another, but generally speaking, this list is going to look a lot like this.
Haruka/Michiru - Sailor Moon
Utena/Anthy - Revolutionary Girl Utena
Elisa/Goliath - Gargoyles
Korra/Asami - Legend of Korra
Evie/Rick O’Connel - Mummy movies

Not going to photoshop it, so the chocolates are for Winston and it’s covering her CA and the suspenders can also be holding the CA in place. XD
She is very excited about giving Winston the box of chocolates or some other treat inside a chocolate box if chocolate is bad for Gorillas! Haha.

Old Project! Is there an old project you've always wanted to return to?
I haven’t given up yet in the hope that someday I might come back to this Princess Tutu fic I had working around in my head. Part of the issue is that while I know what I want to do, I don’t know how I want it to end. Never ever start reading a multi-chapter fic I post, because it will probably never ever get it’s ending. I am so sorry. XD Maybe someday though it will at least get it’s Next chapter......

Takes! Michiru
This may as well be plagiarism because I never knew what to think about Michiru and never really bothered to dig into her and then I started reading your fic and well guess what??? Your word is law irt Michi XD But I will try!
>How can one believe they are terrible but also incredibly self prideful? It’s more likely than you think! And Michiru has it in spades! It’s not that she’s proud of hating herself. She’s a smart and clever woman who is just objectively able to recognize fact for what it is and if that means she’s a terrible person, well so be it.
>Intuitive of a person’s character... to a degree. I actually think her very stark way of thinking about things, the same part of her that ‘objectively recognizes’ she’s terrible, means she misses out on parts of people. But for the most part, I think she is a very good judge of character. I think mostly she would fall victim to paralyzing a person in her mind. Her first couple impressions tells her about someone, and then that’s it. That’s who they are. And so she may miss when someone is changing or in a transitional stage until she sees something big and telling in their character to express otherwise. (I actually think getting to know Catra better got me to this, bc I think it’s something they share.)
> Guarded. Okay, that’s wholesale entirely stolen from you more word for word than the rest but I’m running out of something I can just extrapolate on okay? She doesn’t let others in easily though, and I think it even takes Haruka a long time to really know Michiru. Some of that is Haruka being Haurka, taking things at face value and being bullheaded and not noticing stuff. Ask her five months into the two of them dating what Michiru’s favorite color is, and Haruka will say ‘teal’ because of Michiru’s hair and Michi’s fashion sense meaning she doesn’t ignore her hair color, not because Michiru has actually told her or revealed any sort of thing such as ‘favorite color.’
Oh wait, it was four things. SHIT. I’m still not done.
> Self sacrificing BUT ONLY FOR THE ONE SHE LOVES. Yep. I’m just throwing up my arms now. Straight from canon. Enforced over and over again by Doc’s fics. Senshi life? Whatever. She can put in some effort, no mind that ‘some’ of Michiru Kaioh’s efforts is some efficient as shit stuff, but for Haurka? There is no injury she won’t throw herself in front of for that woman.
THERE
XD This isn’t a great start with how much I struggled for that one woops haha
