Does your OC have siblings or family members in their age group? Which one are they closest with?

Adasha is an only child, although Tamlen was like a brother to her. 

Toni obviously has two siblings, and she was probably slightly closer to Bethany, but she wasn’t super close to either of the twins growing up as their age gap often meant that she was more of an unenthusiastic babysitter than a playmate.

Enaste has three younger siblings:

Ellas, 27, is a hunter for Clan Lavellan (class-wise he would be an archer), although his true passion is making music. He’s married to a former city elf, Effe, and they have two daughters with a third on the way when Enaste leaves for the Conclave. Ellas is a romantic and is less bookish and practical than his older sister. He has been best friends with @rozzwil’s Ishavun since they were 7 and 8 respectively.

Harea, 25, is a hunter just like her older brother. She is trained as a warrior (sword and shield) and so is also on the front line if the clan is ever attacked. She has the most serious demeanor of all Enaste’s siblings and because of this her and Ellas clashed often as kids.

Asvhalla, 21, is the baby of her siblings, and she definitely acts like it. She is the only other one of Enaste’s siblings who is a mage. She has spent the last five years training as a healer (a job she both enjoys and excels at) and also helps grow/gather/trade for the clan’s food (a job she enjoys far less and is not particularly good at).

How quick is your OC to trust someone else?

Adasha is quick to trust; she’s very young and optimistic and sees the best in everyone. She also believes that she’s strong enough to protect herself (physically and emotionally) if her trust is misplaced.

Toni just...doesn’t trust people. She probably doesn’t even truly, wholly trust Merrill, despite how much she loves her.

Enaste is quick to be kind, but slow to trust.

What do you consider the biggest themes in your OCs, if any?

I’m not sure if they have an overarching theme between them all, I purposely set out to make them all quite different people with different strengths and struggles.

I don't usually have specific people's faces in mind when drawing OCs but every once and while I stumble on actors that are dead on how I imagine them to look.

Isha as a child is Chad from Malcolm in the Middle/famous gay Shameless actor but not as an adult because I refuse to make him that conventionally attractive. When he's older he'd look a lot like the lead singer of Eve 6, especially when he was less stacked like in the Inside Out music vid era

A whole lot of thoughts and sketches on Isha’s T1D supplies and how he manages his diabetes day to day 💉🩸

I was tagged by @dreadfutures to post some first and last drawings of my OCs, so here’s my first/last of Isha and Ivan! I ended up using this for more of an opportunity to explore how they’ve visually and conceptually changed from their initial design

I’m gonna tag @bearsizedant, @midorimaddie, @siennadraws, @forystr, @whataboutbugs-art, @artharakka, and @artist-rat but I’m horrible at remembering to tag people and I’d love to see anyone else who wants to do it as well :0)

Some extra rambling notes and additions to how these characters have changed under the cut

ISHA:

Isha was only created last year in a drunken quarantine haze with @diirthara-ma​ but he’s gone through a lot of drafts as I’ve fleshed him out more. We were goading each other into trying the Solas romance despite not being very interested in him as a character because of his narrative importance in DA4. She ended up going with a character who’s fairly complementary to Solas and his interests and so I wanted to create a character who’d have a much rockier romance with him. 

Because of this, Isha was originally going to be a 2H warrior with the templar specialization (instead of dual wield tempest) who had a very disparaging view towards magic. He was also much more aggressive, close-minded, and generally a vessel to let me pick the mean dialogue options lol. As I came to learn more about Solas, Dalish culture, and when diirth and I decided to have Enaste and Isha come from the same clan Lavellan he became a lot more nuanced and likable. Isha also was going to be about 23 (instead of 28), had brown straight hair, and wasn’t yet a Type 1 Diabetic.

IVAN:

OK so I know I haven’t actually posted any proper art of Ivan yet but I included him anyway! He’s a spirit healer/blood mage and a pretty selfish, nasty guy in the events of Origins. He was one of the first characters I ever played as purposely mean and antagonistic. Originally he was fairly one-note but over time diirth has woobified him enough that I decided to give him something like a redemption arc after Origins ends. Instead of not romancing anybody he also now romances Morrigan and while he DOES become the first transmasc absent father he later steps up and becomes a more regular part of Kieran’s life.

Physically, he started out as more of a bland, vaguely handsome, evil blond boy but I ended up pushing a lot more of his features to be less conventionally attractive. Like Isha, his age also creeped up from 18 at the start of Origins to 21. His body’s chronically underweight and I also gave him the classic nerd maladies (acne, asthma, and eczema). I also finally let him grow a sad little mustache😌

🍋: What is your OC's most painful memory?

Ivan had a particularly traumatic experience with a templar when he was a young teenager. He was forced to strip down in front of a room of mages and other apprentices for some petty, fabricated reason to humiliate him for being mouthy. At that point he was already very radicalized by Uldred but that sent him over the edge.

Tony's got some real doozies but watching Bethany die, and the subsequent guilt and blame from his family members, was particularly bad.

Alexandar's fight with his Mom before he left home is very hard for him to think about. Alexandar had taught himself how to synthesize T for the last few months and when his Mom found out, she interpreted this as his latest effort to idolize the Qun. He's always dealt with feeling out of place both at home and in larger society but he's never felt so thoroughly rejected as that moment.

When Isha's best friend unexpectedly met a city elf, fell in love, and got married over the course of several months, Isha had a really hard time coming to terms with this. He felt like he was losing the closest person to him and didn't know what to do. He also struggled a lot with insecurity about not being born in clan Lavellan and not feeling "Dalish enough" and projected a lot of those feelings onto his friend's wife. Becoming a surrogate uncle and gaining a second best friend was one of the best experiences he's had but those months of feeling alienated from his clan and family because of his own pride were very painful.

Ivan kissed Jowan once when they were eleven underneath their bunk bed 😳 They both thought it was fuckign gross lol

Tony was macking on all sorts of other kids (especially girls Carver had a crush on) since he was pretty young and was a popular guy. He was also sexually abused from a young age but doesn't like to think of that as counting :(

Alexandar only had one kiss before Cassandra which was with a nice girl in his mercenary squad! He fell in love with her way too quickly and she wasn't ready for that although they remain good friends. They were good for each other and he's glad she was his first!

Isha's first kiss was with his best friend Ellas who asked him to help him,, practice,,, kissing in case,, other kids at the Arlathvhen wanted to hook up. Isha knew this was a dumb excuse but what else are bros for?

🍷: What's one of your OC's pet peeves concerning food?

Ivan gets weird about food when he's stressed. He’s always been a picky eater that refuses most food outside of bread and sweets but living in the tower where most of their meals are a week expired gruel at best has really done a number on him. Listing what doesn’t bug him and what he will eat would be much easier than writing out all of his pet peeves tbh 😂

Tony has and would eat almost anything. In fact, on a dare Tony WILL eat anything. That being said, he prefers rich, saucy food. Bland, “health” foods are particularly unappetizing, at least getting dared to eat a dead bug or a fuzzy, blue piece of cheese is exciting 🤷

Alexandar says he likes trying lots of new, exciting foods (which is true!) but doesn’t handle spice well AT ALL. He grew up with a very narrow diet living in poverty in the Free Marches and his stomach has never agreed with most intense flavors. He’s also too polite to ever turn down food though :’)

Isha hates sweets. He’s been force fed one too many honey candies when his blood sugar’s low and can’t stand syrupy, sweet tastes anymore. He also doesn’t particularly love traditional Dalish meals that use insects but makes a point to always enthusiastically eat them when he’s in front of humans!

I think Ivan would like to think of himself as not being particularly sentimental. He had to give up all of his possessions when he came to the circle and had very little to himself once he was there. That being said I think he has a few things he’d hang onto, like old sketchbooks he’s especially proud of or his favorite pair of (old, nasty) warm socks.

Tony prides himself on being a rolling stone. His family moved and their financial situation yo-yo’d so often that he tried to never let losing stuff like that get him down! Either it’s on his person or it’s just not that important 🤷

Alexandar has tons and tons of things he’d hold on to. He’s got spaces for all his books, and art, and scraps of parchment with his own writing and notes and poetry and pressed leaves and old flowers and scraps of interesting looking fabric and cool rocks and nice shells and old buttons (and later, love letters from Cassandra). It drove his mom crazy when he was younger but it’s a habit I don’t think he ever breaks!

When he first joined clan Lavellan, Isha hoarded food for a while but that stopped as time went on. Besides that, he always traveled light and was good about gifting toys and blankets and such to younger kids as he grew older. During inquisition though, the trauma of being away from his family really messed with his head. When he travelled to the conclave he brought almost nothing to remind himself of his best friends or his mother and father figures or anyone and he deeply regrets it. I think he copes with this by hoarding tons of things he plans to gift to people in his clan once he can go home. He hates being cooped in his room at Skyhold or using his bed so the whole place just becomes a storage room for him to gather interesting scrolls and books for the keeper and expensive toys for his best friend’s children and rare spices for the hearthkeepers, etc. After a certain point, he starts to let go of the idea that he'll ever see home again or is even going to make it out alive but he keeps this habit up for a long time anyway.

73. What is your OC’s favorite form of entertainment?:

Ivan likes to draw! As a kid, he and Jowan amused themselves by making mean comics about other apprentices that bullied them or templars they particularly didn’t like and when they got older Ivan used his art skills for sexy pictures that all the sexually-repressed nerds passed around. He also likes learning about bugs and animals and kept a collection of of pinned bugs as a kid. 

Tony can find fun anywhere they go. And if they don’t find it, they make it ;0) This usually involves drinking, illegal magic, or wrestling but he’s up for just about anything.

Alexandar has a lot of hobbies! He likes to write, especially poetry. He also presses plants and flowers and he’s excellent at sewing and embroidery. I think he’s even tried his hand at tablet weaving once or twice when he was around someone with the materials. Alexandar loves to read too and collects lots of books. His favorites are poetry, histories, and adventure novels but he also loves books of art as well.

Isha likes to keep himself busy helping with chores. He also is an excellent forager and loves to hunt for mushrooms. Isha really likes to exercise for fun and will challenge himself to do wild things when he’s bored like seeing how high he can run up the side of a tree. More than any of my other characters he’s also the most content with just chilling out and people watching or looking at the clouds.
