the sin factor 12/?
masterlist
Warnings: Implied/referenced abuse, mild self-hatred, self-deprecation, just general all around angst.
Summary: It’s in the eyes, too, the same ambition and clawing desperation to be more, get more, hidden behind a carefully blank stare. He also knows that Duke has something Tommy never had although it’s more likely that it’s the other way around, because Tommy has lines that he won’t cross for reasons that are his own. Duke has no such reservations.

Breakfast is just as awkward as he knew it would be. Aside from a few muttered greetings and asking each other to pass the salt and the butter, it’s quiet. He keeps his eyes on the worn wooden table. Too afraid to look up and see the silent conversation he knows is happening above his head, to see the disapproval there. He’s never let himself want anything before, but he wants to be part of this family. He knew it would’ve only been a matter of time before he fucked it up somehow, he always did. Maybe it was for the best that he got it out of the way as soon as possible.
“Got any plans for the day, boys?”
“I’ve got to go into the office, catch up on paperwork.”
“What about you?”
He looks up, but takes care to avoid the eyes of either of them. “I don’t have much planned.”
“Feel like giving me a hand? I’ve got a few things to move up to the attic, and my joints ain’t like they used to be.”
“Uh, sure,” Duke says, glancing at Isiah for a second. It’s the last place he wants to be, really, especially without Isiah around to smooth things over when Duke says something else to ruin the day, but he’s trying. He might not want to be here alone with his boyfriend’s father, but he wants to be the kind of person Jeremiah could look at and think ‘He’s a good one.’ He’s trying. No one has ever been worth the trouble, before. “I can do that.”
“Great. Don't worry, it’s only a couple of boxes, nothing too heavy.”
“Ah, so that’s why you wanted us to come to dinner. The truth comes out now, my father’s using us for free labour.”
He listens to their voices fading away as they leave the room, bickering fondly as they go, but he stays sitting at the table and looks around the kitchen instead. It’s tidy, if not clean, well-used is probably the best way to describe it. It’s the sort of place he can imagine Isiah sitting in, watching his mother cooking, sneaking little bits of food while she’s pretending she doesn’t notice. Worlds away from the fire he’d learnt to cook over, with food so hot it burns your fingertips because they hadn’t had forks, or plates, or a kitchen, really. He barely had a bed, most nights, and even now sleeping on a mattress feels wrong. He’s grown too used to sleeping on the ground, with just his arms to cushion his head from the dirt and the rocks. This house, far from fancy, is still too good for him to be in, and every second that passes feels like he’s leaving some sort of irremovable mark on it, like there’ll be a stain here long after he’s gone.
“Feeling alright?”
Duke jumps a little, snapping out of his thoughts.
“Fine. Just tired.”
“There’s coffee, if you want to make some.”
“I’m fine, thank you.”
The concerned look is why he doesn’t want to be alone with Jeremiah. Who knows what he thinks, seeing Duke sitting at his kitchen table, holding onto a mug of tea like it’s a lifeline. He’s afraid to ask, so he bites his tongue.
“Where are these boxes? Best to get it out of the way, no use putting it off.”
“Sit down.”
Halfway out of his seat, Duke freezes, and slowly sits back down. While the voice isn’t familiar, not yet, the tone is, and he curls his fingers around the arm of the chair and waits for the words he knows are going to come. That tone is always immediately followed by how he’s not good enough, or should stay away. A few memorable times, it had been followed by “You’re the son of a whore, ain’t you? This shouldn’t be too new to you, then.” The ones who had said it are dead now, but the words still echo in his head from time to time, always coupled with the phantom feeling of fingers on his shoulders and red-hot pain down his back. They’d left souvenirs, in their own way.
“I’ve heard stories about you.”
“I know.” It would’ve been a miracle if none of the rumours had made it back to Jeremiah. Finn hasn’t been quiet in his accusations that it was him that killed Mary. He’s right, of course, Duke did do it, but there’s no proof. It doesn’t stop people from listening, and avoiding him on the streets.
“And you still showed up?”
“Yes. It was important to Isiah.”
“He means a lot to you.”
After a moment of hesitation, Duke nods. “Yes, sir.”
“You’re the first one he’s ever brought home. There have been others, I’m sure you know that, enough that I’ve lost count over the years. Why do you think you’re the only one?”
“I don’t know,” Duke says, looking down at his hands, “I wonder that myself, every day.”
“Why?”
He could leave. There’s nothing keeping him here, he doubts Jeremiah would try and stop him. Still, he doesn’t. This is the first time he’s ever cared enough about anyone to meet their parents, so it appears they’re in the same boat. There’s been other people, less and less as he grew older and realised that none of them would hold his interest for more than a night or two, and none of them have been important enough to him that he’s trying to impress their parents, and taking care of them when they’re sick, and staying awake at night thinking about what their future might look like. He’d never admit that to anyone, even if the alternative is death.
“I know where I come from. I might be Tommy Shelby’s son now, but I was no one before that. I was only ten when my mum died. No one else was around to look after me, so I had to look after myself. The first time I ever killed anybody was the doctor who refused to treat her, because she was Romani, but there’s been dozens since then. You’d be surprised about what people do, when they see a young boy alone.”
Jeremiah just looks at him, and he almost manages to keep his face blank, but there’s a small crease in between his eyebrows, like he’d been expecting to hear something simple, not all of this.
“I still remember all of them, and I remember every single one of their faces. Once she died, there was no one left to care about what happened to me, and I did things for a place to sleep and something to eat that I’ll never tell another living soul about. Things that’ll follow me for the rest of my life. Sometimes I had to go days without either of them. That’s where I come from. No amount of money from a family I never knew I had will change that, and all the money in the world won’t make me a better person. I don’t know why I’m the only one, but I know that I shouldn’t be.”
The silence that fills the room after he’s finished talking feels like a tangible thing, like it’s heavy enough to trap the air in his lungs and keep him from taking a full breath.
“It’s all a charade, it’s just a fucking act, and one day he should come to his senses and realise there’s better people out there to choose from that aren’t anything like me.”
“He won’t.”
“I know. But he should.”
He almost asks about the boxes again, starts to say the words, but they get caught in his throat when he looks down at the table.
“Can I talk now?”
“Yes. Sorry.”
“Louise, god rest her soul, she was a good woman. Much better than me. I still don’t know what it is she saw in me, but I thank god every day she saw it, because she made me the happiest I’ve ever been. Since her passing, I thought about finding someone else, to feel a little less lonely, but I couldn’t. It felt wrong, like I was disrespecting her memory. I tried to break it off with her, more than once, before we were married. Every time, she’d tell me that I don’t get to make her decisions for her, and if being with me was going to make life harder, well then she didn’t want an easy life anyway. Isiah takes after her more than he thinks he does.”
“You think I should just let him keep fooling himself?”
“I think you should trust him to know what he’s doing, and let him make his own choices about it. It might be the best decision you ever made.”
It takes all of his effort to cup his hands around the small object Jeremiah gently drops into his palms, as if his fingers are frozen. He shakes his head and tries to give it back, but the older man pretends he doesn’t see it and stands up from the table, clapping on the shoulder lightly, as if Duke might shatter into pieces if the touch is any heavier.
“Keep it. For when you’re ready.”
He doesn’t have to ask to know it’s Isiah’s mother’s ring, sitting in the middle of his palm, glinting dully in the light.

Backstory
Winning the Title:
You won the Royal Rumble and had a first-class ticket to Wrestlemania
Where, also, you had the opportunity to the main event with Becky (Or Charlotte or whoever else you want)
After a feud that has been brewing for a couple of months, it all came down to this
You were gonna walk in as the challenger and walk out as the champion
And you did exactly that
All while giving the crowd and fans around the world memorable moments and five-star moves
After 15 minutes, the bell rung and all was said and done as you held the championship over your head
You celebrated with those at ringside (family, friends, fans) before blowing a kiss to the camera
But most importantly to the person who has always supported you, no matter where he is
Ending a Rivalry:
You have been in a rivalry with Liv Morgan (or someone else)
At first, you two were running the division as a tag team before being split up due to comparisons and underlying tensions
After months and months of scathing promos, vicious attacks, and iconic moments
You two were set to wrestle in a No Holds Barred match at Wrestlemania
Even though y’all weren’t the main event, ya’ll stole the show
With moments that involved blood (if you wish), ladders, kendo sticks, and breaking tables
In the end, you were the only one standing with your hand raised as the winner
You helped Liv up before hugging in the middle of the ring
Eddie Kingston
Tumblr media
This man would be screaming “I told you so” to everyone and their mommas
Blows up your phone with spam of “You did good! I guess” “Drag her!” “Dawg you suck lol jk” “I’m proud”
You know how Eddie just randomly posts stuff? He’ll just post a pic of you at Wrestlemania followed by memes or old Japanese Wrestling
Eddie would try his best to promote your win to everyone in his line of sight
Cuts a promo and ends with “Also, congrats to Y/N! Hella proud of you skunk”
I also have a feeling that because Eddie is close with you, he would take this win for you a little more personally than how people would expect
He’s happy that you’re experiencing something that he has yet to have
Ricky Starks
Tumblr media
MANS IS HELLA PROUD
Wishes he was there ringside, but Ricky sends his support from afar
Make three separate Instagram posts and five tweets about you, all talking about how you’re amazing (and how you’ll meet stroke daddy later)
“LOOK AT MY BABY WITH THE W”
Makes all of his friends congratulate you with posts and comments (will literally take their phones and do it for them if they don’t)
Refers to you in promos to make his opponents (especially ex-WWE) jealous
“Well, unlike you, my girlfriend was actually able to have her Mania moment”
Spoils with presents (wink wink) you as soon as you guys are reunited
Daniel Garcia
Tumblr media
THIS MAN IS A MENACE WITH YOUR WIN
“Your win is my win right? So technically I won at Wrestlemania too?” “No.”
Makes your win his Twitter header (don’t matter if you’re together or not)
Will brag on Isiah’s vlogs and to the JAS
Will taunt people like “Did your girlfriend win at Wrestlemania? No, didn’t think so”
Like Ricky, he will post you on his Instagram and Twitter with simple or funny captions
Would genuinely be proud of you and all of your accomplishments;
And would definitely make your Wrestlemania picture/outfit his Home Screen
Mark Briscoe (My twin flame)
Tumblr media
HOMEBOY FUNNY AS FUCK
Would definitely tell you that he saw it coming “I CALLED IT!”
Would send you some flowers that remind him of you and tells you that you did a good job
Mark will ramble on and on about your match to Penta and Fenix
Will turn a promo into being about your win
Will compare your victory to an animated movie where the hero wins all the time
“You know like that one film?” “Cars?” “No…Up! That’s what it called”
Although he hasn’t made it to WWE yet, he is extremely proud of you and will defend your victory till the very end
Jeff Hardy
Tumblr media
THIS MAN IS BEYOND EXCITED
As a man who has had his Wrestlemania moment; he’s happy that he had yours sooner rather than later
Will recount his own Wrestlemania moments and reminisce as he looks at your bright smile
Jeff would be the one who dedicates his next gear and facepaint to your Wrestlemania gear
Gives you a spill (speech) about living up to standards and upstaging yourself on future occasions
“And if you don’t feel confident…just jump off the ladder, the floor will catch you”
I want to say that in future matches he would use your signature move or like a common move that you use
Jeff is so damn sweet and will continuously support your accomplishments
Dante Martin
Tumblr media
This man is a cutie patootie
Darius would definitely post Dante’s reaction (involves him jumping up and down and screaming at the screen)
Would FaceTime you and just listen to you talk about the entire thing from your perspective
Would call/text you “I’m so proud of you baby”
Cites you (and this specific moment) as his inspiration for future interviews
Would have flowers delivered to you with a little note attached
Hook:
Tumblr media
His silent celebrations speak volumes
Would definitely take you out to show how proud he is
I feel like that Hook would be the type to like a post about your victory/moment
But what would really solidify your relationship would be that he posted you on his story with a black heart
That’s also how he confirms your relationship
The wrestling world goes wild as he also wears a hoodie of your merch or posts a picture of ya’ll kissing
Like Dante would also have flowers delivered to you, idc what you say
"I love you and I'm so proud of you"

Alaskan Shifter Romance
Tumblr media
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a person who is raised in Alaska must eventually develop either a deep soft spot or deep hatred for Alaskana in all its forms. I was raised in Alaska and I'm literally writing a blog post about how much I adore these Alaska-themed paranormal shifter romances, so you do the math on that one while I talk the Alaskan Totem Shifters books.
There are probably spoilers below the break, so just a heads up!
For those of you who follow this blog pretty closely, this series is set in the same universe as the Gladiator Shifter books, but without the gladiatorial backstory and localized to small-town Alaska. The vibes are on point, which is only to be expected since Murphy Lawless lived in Alaska for a while. (True Story: I once ran into her at a Barnes and Noble on a random day when I was buying Urban Shama, and she was absolutely lovely and signed my book. I was a speechless mess.) These books scratched an itch for home that pops up for me every once in a while; there really and truly is nowhere quite like Alaska on this earth.
Raven Heart follows Elena Peratrovitch as she works with her community, the government, and a bunch of billionaires to maintain conservation of the land versus exploitation and developement. This is somewhat complicated by small town dynamics, Alaska small town dynamics, and Richard freaking Yale, billionare Raven Shifter. Elena and Richard are basically fated mates, although I actually don't think the book uses that term.
Beyond the romance and the Alaska small-town vibes, the book also has a legitimately interesting contrast between Richard and his fellow shifter (albeit grizzly bear, not raven) and billionaire developer Derek Crown. Richard is all about sustainable, conservationist development, whereas Crown is all "drill, baby, drill" up in here, and he is very much not above kidnapping and murdering the opposition to get it done.
I was not expecting a shifter battle at the end of the book, but I was absolutely not mad about it either.
Overall, Raven Heart's 2016 publication date (four years before Gladiator Bear and a whopping seven years before Polar Heart) means that it doesn't slot terribly neatly into the shifterverse that Lawless would develop later, but it's not so far off from it that it's not clearly related, and Polar Heart is a really excellent bridge between the Gladiator Shifters and Raven Heart, so everything has a nice continuity and shared shifterverse.
Polar Heart follows Davinda Jackson (Elena's college bestie) and Isiah Moses during Shkalnik's mayoral election. Davinda is a wildlife photographer, which fully endears her to the shifter community when she offers to do portraits of them AND their shifted forms in what is one of the sweetest, most community-driven scenes I have ever read in any book ever, end of sentence. Where Elena and Richard felt very isolated, Davinda and Isiah are deeply embedded in the shifter and Shkalnik communities in a way that felt so Alaska. So honestly, this book is cozy in a way that Raven Heart wasn't, and actually manages to have a cozier community focus than the Gladiator Shifter books, which are all about the shifter worlds and communities.
On top of that, if Garius Beren (of Gladiator Bear fame) was the most bear a person could be, Isaiah is EVEN MORE BEAR. He is literally a giant polar teddy bear of a man, and his house also looks like a polar bear, which is just adorable. It even has EARS.
In addition to the sheer cozy adorableness, this book ends on just THE most epic takedown of a literal Outsider Karen politician who is trying to expose shifters to the world. This takedown is epic, utterly gratifying, and quite frankly the best thing I've read in a WHILE.
Overall, I very much hope we see more entries in the Alaska Totem Shifters series because both these books have been incredible in their own ways, and I would happily read more.

Genuinely curious, why do you hate Peggy so much?
assuming this is about my post about laughing how captain carter died in mom (which i put in the anti peggy tag, not her tag) i really can't stand hayley or peggy at this point. i'm tired of marvel including her in places where she's literally not relevant, when there are like 1000 other marvel women that could be introduced to the mcu.
to preface, i used to adore peggy. she was my favorite marvel character hands down, i had the 'i know my value' quote as my senior quote in the yearbook, religiously watched agent carter, etc. i even met hayley at the first comic con i went to:
Tumblr media
i had been so excited to meet her and cosplayed as sharon carter from ca: the winter soldier, and got a photo with her before her panel. (this was like the same month civil war came out) almost the entire panel hayley talked about how steve/sharon was disrespectful and basically did nothing but bash the character i was cosplaying as. i felt really insecure after her panel, and even heard some people make funny comments about my cosplay (while it wasn't hayley's fault that those people were rude to me) but there was no reason to bitch about steve and sharon that much, rather than just talking about what she enjoyed about her own show. it ruined my first con experience <3 she's also said ugly things about emily vancamp/sharon carter at other comic cons. as well as said poc need to 'wait their turn' for representation.
and as far as peggy goes, literally everything about her in the mcu was based on other characters in 616 comics. the writer's of ca: the first avenger talked about how there was barely any source material for peggy and so they took from sharon carter in the comics to flesh her out. peggy is also partially based on the character cynthia glass- who was the agent involved with project rebirth, who steve called his first love, and was also a nazi spy. in 616 (before the mcu changed it) peggy was a blonde chick who fought nazis, and was really just backstory for sharon carter. here's cythia glass compared to mcu peggy:
Tumblr media
and here's peggy before the mcu changed her look in comics:
Tumblr media
in the comics, she didn't found shield (she wasn't even a shield agent) nick fury founded shield, she wasn't the love of steve roger's life sharon carter was, and she sure as heck wasn't a super soldier/captain carter. and that's not even mentioning the things that she did in the mcu, she hired zola and other nazis, let them rise to power, and probably knew about shield doing horrible things like they did to isiah bradley and ava starr. and she shot at steve after some woman kissed him?? and what they've given peggy in the mcu has destroyed sharon carter's character in the mcu, when she's been the love of his life in comics for 60 years:
Tumblr media
and all of this has led to emily vancamp/ sharon carter fans being treated absolutely horribe by mcu fans. not sure if you know how bad it was when civil war came out, but emily and other fans were both getting death threats because steve kissed sharon. (hayley's comments at comics cons helped fuel this) i even remembered getting hate from other peggy stans bc i simply liked sharon and didn't hate on her. (and i'm not even getting into steve's ending in endgame and how they turned sharon into a villain in tfatws)
tldr, i used to love peggy until i picked up a comic book. she literally had no relevance before 2011. i'm so fucking tired of marvel bringing her back and giving her traits from other characters in the actual source material. we don't need more peggy carter, she's already had her time to shine. i want other women that haven't even gotten their mcu introduction yet (or have been treated badly) to get the respect they deserve.

Get In Line: Cocaine Bear Review
Tumblr media
Pictured above is the “Cocaine Bear” poster.
Image Credit: Universal Pictures
So, usually I cover movies that are straight horror, but I decided to do something different and discuss this movie. This movie has an insane premise with an interesting story that inspired the movie. Usually, horror comedies are hit and miss for me, but I decided to give it a watch. Let’s get straight to the spoiler free review and hope no cocaine addicted bears are around.
Cocaine Bear is a 2023 horror comedy thriller directed by Elizabeth Banks who also produced this movie, Produced by Max Handelman, Aditya Sood, Brian Duffield, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller. Cocaine Bear is written by Jimmy Warden, and the soundtrack is done by Mark Mothersbaugh. The cast involves Keri Russell as Sari, Alden Ehrenreich as Eddie, O’Shea Jackson Jr. as Daveed, Ray Liotta as Syd, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Bob, Brooklynn Prince as Dee Dee, Christian Convery as Henry, Margo Martindale as Ranger Liz, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Peter, Kristofer Hivju as Olaf, Hannah Hoekstra as Elsa, Ayoola Smart as Officer Reba, Aaron Holliday as Kid (Stache), J.B. Moore as Vest, Leo Hanna as Ponytail, Kahyun Kim as Beth, Scott Seiss as Tom, Matthew Rhys as Andrew Thornton, and Allan Henry as “Bear Performer”.
The Plot:
An oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converge on a Georgia forest where a huge black bear goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine.
Positives:
One positive I have about “Cocaine Bear” is that it knows what it is, and what I mean by that is that it’s a movie about a bear on cocaine, that alone sounds crazy, but they have fun with that premise. The real black bear died on December 23rd,1985 after eating a large amount of cocaine from the containers, the total amount of cocaine that was eaten was 75 pounds which was worth $20 million ($55.6 million, adjusted for inflation).
Tumblr media
Pictured above is the ambulance scene from “Cocaine Bear” (2023)

The second positive I have about this movie was the dark humor throughout, the reason I loved the dark humor throughout as some of the death scenes are so unexpected and over the top that you can’t just help but laugh. The dialogue was creative and some characters’ reactions to certain situations had me laughing.
The final positive I have about this movie was the cast as they understood the assignment, the acting reminds me of an 80’s b-horror movie. Keri Russell nailed her performance as Sari, and I must give props to the child actors (Brooklynn Prince and Christian Convery.) But this does have some drawbacks which we’ll get to.

Negatives:
One negative I have is the lack of character development. I know it’s not supposed to be taken seriously, but I would’ve enjoyed seeing how each character’s story progresses since they are all intertwined. Another negative I have is that I felt that the movie wasn’t scary enough, I know the real bear died via overdose, but can you imagine how terrifying would it be to have a 500-pound black bear high on cocaine chasing you. I honestly wish they could have played up on the fear factor.
My Overall thoughts:
While this movie has some negatives, don’t let them affect your viewing experience as it’s one of the movies where you turn your mind off and eat some popcorn. If you enjoy campy, gory, and darkly comedic horror movies, this one is for you. But I’m glad that studios are letting directors make the movies they want even if they are based on…as I said before insane backstories. This movie is amazing in its own way with its over the top violence, comedic timing, and action throughout which only increases its re-watchability.

not to be like “if i were to rewrite this” on a fan project bc it feels a bit more meanspirited and the creator could easily see this but like. man if i wrote isha’s backstory in rejuv id just have it so that isiah bodysnatched his son and completely killed his brain and wants to do the same to lavender instead of wanting to be a collective bc the idea of someone who can just straight up erase you from existence and wear your skin after doing it is SO fucked

backstory
samir grew up the oldest of five , they were very very poor and since his mom was always working he was pretty much the head of everything .
his father was murdered in a convince store robbery , he tried to talk to the shooter and got shot himself
he doesn’t really remember feeling carefree he was almost always doing something for others ; be it helping his siblings with their homework , making dinner or walking his mom home from work
( suicide tw ) shortly after he turned eighteen his mother committed suicide leaving samir to care for the rest of his siblings , needless to say this meant he had to step up and quickly
pretty much as soon as he heard rap he was in love , eventually he started making music , it was his way of escaping the world he lived in .
he never really got famous but the streets loved him . if you search real hard you can find some of his old tapes .
he started working as soon as he possibly could, doing everything from selling tapes to working at a deli on the weekends
he went to a performing arts school where he studied acting and writing , he has a book of poetry that’s been published and a novel that he published under a pseudonym
he went to an open casting call for a show called living single but he didn’t get the part . a few months later the execs at nbc decided to base a show around his rap persona called the fresh prince the show became a cult classic and the rest is kind of history
he got married at twenty and thought he’d be with his wife forever , he really wanted a big family so right away they started having kids they have four kids biologically and adopted three kids
after fifteen years of marriage his first wife announced that she’d never been happy and left him for another man. needless to say this fucked with him heavily but instead of dealing with it he got married four more times . he’s currently on the hunt for wife number 6 .
when his wife left he took time off of acting and devoted himself to his family , he was the dad who went to every dance recital , school play and choir concert , he coached his kids little league teams and was ready to give up hollywood for good
he was offered the part of heimdall and initially he was going to turn it down but one of his kids convinced him to go for it , it was a small part after all , what was meant to be a one off role more or less reopened a lot of door for him
he took the role on groovy 70s because it allowed him to be in LA while his last child finished up high school , plus his older children were looking to break out into acting and the last thing he was going to do was let them do it alone .
a tale of five wives
wife number one : npc . aged fifty one . the love of his life and the destroyer of his heart . he honestly thought they were happy but she’d been cheating on him for ten years , to this day he hates her guts , they’re constantly in and out of court over their fourteen year old daughter .

wife number three : playable . age 40+ . he met wife number three when picking up his daughter from dance class both their kids attended . the two hit if off and dated secretly for a year before telling their children . their marriage lasted three years before their divorce when samir cheated .  he still feels very guilty about cheating , he knows how badly it hurts and he hates that he did that to someone else .
wife number four : playable . any age . his children hated wife number four because of how close in age she was to them . naturally they did everything in their power to get rid of her , eventually they managed to run her away , that really pissed off samir because he actually loved her and “ maybe it would have worked out . ”
wife number five : playable . any age . much like wife number four his kids weren’t the biggest fan of number five but this time they had to come up with a different plan . instead of tormenting the wife they imbedded little doubts in samir’s mind until he eventually decided to divorce .

child number five : playable . any gender . any fc , this muse was adopted .
child number six : playable . any gender . any fc , this muse was adopted .
child number seven : npc . female aged fourteen . samir and his wife are constantly battling over their daughter . she is the last child they have together and the last link to his life . while he loves his kid beyond words he’s so glad he’s almost done with raising children .

The correlation between Sam Wilson's mental health and certain behaviors
I've seen a number of people claim that Sam is the 'perfect example of mental health' or that he 'doesn't have any mental illness' or 'his mental health\trauma isn't as bad as {insert character}' and personally I find those claims to be untrue. Even though Sam's mental illness doesn't manifest as violent nightmares or seem to impede on his daily life, it does NOT mean that he doesn't struggle at all or have no inner turmoil.
We see Sam's hesitance about taking the shield and becoming Captain America because of his own knowledge & experience with America and his conversation with Isiah Bradley. We also hear Sam talk about losing Riley and how that affected him in CA: TWS. Sam endures a significant amount of trauma throughout his time in the MCU and just because his trauma isn't from being brainwashed and used as a weapon for 70 years doesn't mean his trauma is invalid or 'not so bad' or whatever. Everyone's trauma, no matter how seemingly insignificant it is, matters! Their trauma is valid even if someone else has gone through 'worse', even if they are in denial, even if they don't have violent manifestations. EVERYONE'S TRAUMA IS VALID!!!
Sam's trauma most likely manifests in different ways than Bucky's trauma because Sam is not Bucky and Sam has not gone through what Bucky went through, but that doesn't mean Sam hasn't gone through anything. Sam's trauma could manifest as self-harm in the form of exercise (his introduction in CA: TWS). Sam's trauma could manifest into the need for validation (trying to fix everything). Sam's trauma could manifest as putting himself out there to prove that he's not a statistic (soldiers w/ mental illness) or a stereotype (the mysterious\sketchy black man). Depending on what caused the trauma and what other mental illnesses or other traumatic experiences may be present can determine manifestations and coping mechanisms.
Lastly, it is bold of people to assume that Sam a black (possibly queer) man is walking around just chilling in the American south and does not feel pain equivalent to that of a white man. Sam is traumatized on some level because Sam is human; he's not some pedestal for you to place your favorite white characters on, he is not just the comfort character for the main white character, he is not there for progress points! Sam has a story that involves trauma, thoughts, and emotions please let him have those without diminishing them because character x, y, z has a more tragic backstory!

Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Ep. 4 Takeaway
Uh. No. No, I was not in any way, shape, or form prepared for that heart-wrenching opening. That raw emotion. The gut-punching fear. The devastation. The soul massive relief from under all that fear and pain. No, I was not ready.
“She’s just a kid.” This is why Sam should be Captain America. Look, no one can replace Steve Rogers. There will never be another Steve Rogers. But that’s not the point. Sam isn’t meant to replace anyone. He’s meant to be his own Captain America. A man who has the heart and soul of a person who doesn’t go looking for a fight. A man who will fight when it needs to be done. A man who reaches out with compassion first and fists second. Sam is the Captain America this world needs in these modern times and tbh it doesn’t deserve him.
“Those are our friends you’re talking about.” “The Avengers, not the Nazis.” Thank you for your contribution, Bucky. 😂 No, but, I really liked the our friends. Not just my friends, but our friends and Bucky concurring with that by pointing out who Sam means.
Sam sharing the story about his TT. His family means so much to him as does community and I think that’s why he can relate to Karli and what she wants to do but also cannot condone how she’s going about it.
Yes, if anyone wondered, Baron Zemo would sell out his family to the White Witch for some Turkish Delight.
I do like Zemo stepping back into the more villainous role. While I enjoyed the humor from last episode, it never really sat right with me that they gave Zemo a “tragic” backstory. He was Hydra in the comics and it feels weird to me to change it in such a way. He was a supremacist so his new anti-supremacist ideals is...off-putting to me.
“It wasn’t just one community coming together. It was the entire world.” Hence why Sam can understand Karli’s goals.
Sam assuming the leadership role so much in the episode. So much foreshadowing to what’s (hopefully) to come.
When Bucky loses it with Zemo and Sam is like “Don’t engage. He’s just gonna extort you and do that stupid head tilt thing.” Not only is this more leadership from Sam it’s also showing how much he pays attention. He knows all their social cues. He knew Zemo was gonna do that probably before Zemo even did. In other words, Sam Wilson is remarkable.
Sam calling Sharon for help. I wasn’t expecting her again so soon. Yay!!
As soon as John Walker steps on screen I want to punch something.
“He’s dealt with worth. And he’s not my partner.” Look at Bucky backing Sam up while trying to play it cool. We all know you love him, Buck.
Sam talking to Karli. Coming to her from a place of understanding and genuinely trying to earn her trust because he does understand her pain. He’s filled with so much compassion and so much empathy and he knows how to employ both of them to better a situation and the world at large instead of coming in guns blazing. He gets it. And he wants Karli to know that he gets it. His approach to getting her to see that she’s going about it in the wrong way. But while she’s okay with acceptable loss, she in fact expects it, Sam is not. “No, it’s not a better place if you’re killing people. It’s just different.” Again, this is what makes him a good Captain America.
“He knows what he’s doing.” Bucky’s faith and trust in Sam when Walker is literally itching for a fight. That...cold, obsessed look in Walker’s eyes was chilling. (I’ve given kudos to Mackie and Seb for their acting but I should also acknowledge Wyatt Russel’s chilling performance))
Thank you, John Walker, for coming in and making things better oh wait, no. Just come in a fuck things up. Super of you.
Sam’s immediate “no” when Zemo asked if he’d take the serum if he was offered it and asking about Bucky being included in the “super soldiers cannot be allowed to exist.” “Blood isn’t always the solution.” Sam is just. I’m running out of words.
I’m now walking a thin line of patience with Bucky criticizing Sam over not taking the Shield. Like, yes, he’s right in that Steve’s wishes were not honored, but Sam is living the consequences wanting to do the right thing by giving the Shield to a museum. He did not and would not have ever handed it over to anyone to use, especially not a man like John Walker. Sam didn’t give it to him. The government did. The same way they’d’ve given the serum to a man like Gilmore Hodge. The same way they forced it upon Isiah Bradley and then experimented on him and locked him away. The same way they “agreed” that Sam was doing the right thing by turning the Shield over and then handing it to John Walker. This is not Sam’s fault.
I could take hours of Ayo and the Dora Milaje kicking John Walker’s ass.
Ayo and the Dora Milaje.
Did I mention Ayo and the Dora Milaje?
I really want to know what Ayo said to Bucky there**. After everything the Wakandans did for him, I can understand why she did what she did. She helped give his freedom and his mind back to him. I know Bucky only intercepted in that particular fight because Sam asked him to and he didn’t (not totally) want them to hurt Walker but. They gave him this place of freedom and his actions (breaking Zemo out, getting involved in their fight) did disrespect them.
The Dora stepping on and catching the Shield. SWOON.
“They weren’t even super soldiers.” Oh, boo freaking hoo. You don’t need the serum to be a superhero, dude. And the fact that you’re basing so much of this on that plus your obesssion to gt it just proves you’re not worthy of it.
“Power just makes a person more of themselves, right?” Vs. “Because a strong man, who has known power all his life, will lose respect for that power. But a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows compassion."
Seriously, the expressions John Walker makes sends chills down my spine.
Karli calling Sarah. I actually thought she’d show up in person. Sarah’s comments about “Captain America” and her assurances that Sam is not working for Walker.
Sam’s immediate protectiveness when Sarah calls him and Bucky’s worry on his behalf. Sam’s anger with Karli when they meet again and the fact that he didn’t argue with Bucky for him wanting to come rather than Sam going in alone.
Sam and Bucky working together (anyone notice a lot less bickering??) is so amazing. I love them as a team.
Sam’s face when he realizes that Walker took the serum.
Quite honestly, if Bucky Barnes wanted to stab me with knives all night long, I’d let him.
Not happy with them killing Lemar for white man pain. I’m sure there were other ways they could have had Walker rage out.
That amazing parallel between Steve slamming the Shield down in Civil War to defend himself and Bucky and Walker killing a person who was just with Karli.
Speaking of parallels, there was SO many in this episode. The serum vials being shattered. The bursting through the doors Shield first. The jumping out of the window with the Shield. Just wow.
“The Whole World is Watching”. A quote from Black Panther when T’Challa did not kill Klaue, an actual terrorist. The title of this episode when John Walker kills a man who didn’t even incite his rage.
And, of course, that final image. I’m still shaking over it. If there’s a better image for what America represents to the rest of the world, idk what is. I just want to cry after seeing what this man is doing with it. This is why he’s U.S. Agent who represents the “power” and “strength” and “might” of the United States. Not Captain America who represents the ideals and hopes of what any country can be.
The acting in this is utterly incredible. The story has me reeling. My mind has been blown by each and every episode and I can’t believe there are only two left.
**Edit: Got it now! Thanks to those who messaged/replied!!

the sin factor 7/?
Peaky Blinders Scream AU
masterlist
Warnings: More murder, revenge, the unfortunate fate of a man who is horrible at his job

It's insulting, honestly, that the assassination attempt is so obvious. He clocks the figure shadowing him as soon as he steps out of the offices, immediately noticeable on the quiet street, and takes the long way back to the apartment, idly wondering whether or not Duke will be there when he gets home. He thinks he remembers Duke telling him that he was going to pick up some things for the next unfortunate name on their list, but he has no way of knowing how long that took until he walks in through the door.
The would-be assassin doesn't even notice that the twisting alleys and streets have given him away until Isiah slips out of the shadows behind him and grabs him by the shoulder, shoving him into the wall so hard that the crack of his skull on the bricks echoes through the air like a muted gunshot.
"Who sent you?"
"Fuck you."
"Alright," Isiah says, grabbing the hitman's right arm and pulling it back, only just a little further than the joint is supposed to be able to reach. It'll hurt, but at this angle he knows it'll mostly be discomfort at the unnatural stretch. It won't be painful, not yet. "This is how I'm going to play this. You can tell me the name of whoever paid you to follow me, or I can keep asking and every time you refuse I'm going to pull this arm back further and further. Then, eventually, when it dislocates, I'm going to put the joint back where it's supposed to go, and I'll start all over again. Alright? So I'll ask again. Who sent you?"
He knew there was going to be resistance, there always was. It's impressive that the sorry excuse for a contract killer lasts through the first dislocation before he cracks and spills the information, tears rolling down his cheeks. "It was Michael Gray."
"See, that wasn't so hard, was it? That was all you had to say."
"I won't be a bother, I promise, you can let me go."
Isiah smiles, lets the man turn around, and claps him on the shoulder. "'Course I can, you played along eventually. Tell you what, you tell me one more thing and I'll set you free, how about that?"
"What do you want to know?"
"Where did you meet when he gave you this contract?"
He nods as the man talks, rambles really, giving him detailed descriptions of the dusty little pub Michael had met him in, what exactly Michael had said, the amount of money Michael offered for proof that the job had been done.
"Good man. You've been very helpful," Isiah says, smiling reassuringly at the man. After a tense, frightened beat, the man smiles back, looking relieved that Isiah hasn't slaughtered him where he stands for even attempting the kill. If he was a more moral person, he might feel bad about taking the man's head between his hands and twisting it hard to the left until he feels something give, but he just watches the man drop and stares for a second before stepping right over him and continuing on his way home.
As if he's got some sort of sixth sense, Duke looks up as soon as Isiah walks through the door and narrows his eyes.
"What happened to you?"
"Michael's sending assassins now. Well, this one was absolutely horrible at it, but the sentiment was there."
Duke's eyes, for the most part, are carefully blank. Silently, Isiah likens them to the eyes of a shark, nothing in them but hunting instinct. Sometimes, they're so cold it feels like they could freeze anyone with a look, though that's usually reserved for when he's looking down at their victims before the life leaves their body. Now, however, they look like they're filled with every bit of fire that Hell itself contains, and it takes Isiah forcibly shoving him back and slamming the door shut to stop him from tracking Michael down right now and putting a bullet between his eyes, witnesses or not.
"Stop it. We've come too far now to get caught, I'm not going to let it be because of me."
"That's not fair, this is different."
"How? Listen, let's just come up with something, going by yourself and unprepared is just asking for trouble."
"It's different because I don't give a fuck about what happens to anyone else. Am I supposed to just sit around and let this go?"
Isiah sighs and hesitantly moves away from the door, only when he's sure that Duke won't just slip right around him and go burn the entire city down just to get to Michael.
"We'll figure something out. For now, let it go. There's plenty of time to get back at him later."
~~~
Duke has never been good at waiting, so as soon as Isiah falls asleep on the couch, softly snoring and looking strangely peaceful, he takes the short wooden cylinders out of his jacket pocket and slips out the door silently. He knows where Michael and his absolutely irritating wife have been staying, it was one of the first things he asked around about after the horrible night at the fundraiser, and it only takes him twenty minutes to get there.
The hotel is huge and gaudy, gold fixtures everywhere and what he guesses is faux marble but might just as easily be the real thing. It's not really anything he's been interested in so he's got no idea how to tell the difference. For a hotel that a lot of people stay in, very wealthy people by the look of the people in the lobby, the security is lax at best. Aside from one harrowing moment when he was sure one of the bellboys had seen him, he makes it up to the fifth floor without any incidents, and from then it only takes another few minutes to pick the lock on the door and let himself in.
"Front desk."
"Yes, hello," he says into the receiver, carefully modulating his tone to sound worried, "I'm sorry to be calling, but I have an urgent message to Gina Gray, I know she's staying at your hotel but I'm not sure of the exact room number."
"You can leave a message here and I can relay that to her, if you'd like."
"Oh, excellent, thank you. Please tell her that her Uncle wants to see her this afternoon, and to come alone without her husband if she can get away. She'll know where to go."
"Very well, sir, I'll make sure the message gets to her."
"Thank you again." He hangs up before the concierge can say anything else, and settles in to wait.
It's the most bored he's ever been in his life. Around the three hour mark, he settles down into one of the armchairs and sighs when the ache in his back eases a little. These chairs weren't designed to have someone sit in them for so long, but he'd rather sit here and risk having a knot in his back for days than go anywhere near the bed. How many people have used it so far, left behind all manner of substances? He's not willing to risk it. Thankfully, it only takes another half an hour before he hears keys in the door.
The first trickle of blood is warm, spilling down over the hand he's got wrapped around Michael's neck, and when he feels the attempted hit to his ribs he pulls his other hand back further, tightening the razor-sharp wire around his neck.
"I want you to focus on how helpless you feel right now, and realise that it's your own fucking fault."
"Duke-"
"See, all you had to do is walk away," he tightens his fingers around the thick wooden cylinders at either end of the wire, keeping him from slicing into his own hands, and pulls a little further, cutting a little deeper. The slickness of the blood makes it hard to keep his grip, but he digs his nails in and holds on, grinning at the sound the pain dredges up from the depths of Michael's chest. "But you couldn't take someone telling you no, just like a child. And you want to know what the funny thing is?"
Another pull, deeper this time, and he knows from the angle and the depth that he's just crushed through the jugular vein with the thin wire. The blood gushes out now, spilling down over his fingers like water from a faucet, and he doesn't even try to disguise how much the sight of it soothes something inside him, like a hungry beast waiting for more blood. He leans in until he hopes Michael can feel the grin against the side of his face.
"The funny thing is, I wouldn't even be here if you sent someone after me, because I don't give a fuck about you enough to want revenge for a failed attempt on my life, but you didn't. You sent someone else after him instead, and that? That's something I couldn't let go."
It's much easier, after he's finished cleaning himself off, to get out of the hotel without being seen than it was to get inside without being seen. The fire escape leading from the balcony off the bedroom in the hotel suite helps. It's new, barely any rust, and doesn't squeal or screech horribly on his way down, so he's counting it as a win. He hadn't bothered taking the garrote with him as he left, choosing to leave it beside Michael's body instead. Well, he thinks, as the screaming starts not long after he slips into the alley beside the hotel,  he left it wrapped around what was left of the neck, barely still holding Michael's head to his body, anyway.
Close enough.
I have been thinking about this for a long time now and there's a reason I don't interact with posts, about Peaky, that talk about some things (discussed below). So I think it's time I finally let it out because tbh it annoys me now.
I've seen people talking about "misoginy", "characters that serve only Tommy's purpose", "character's not explored well enough" etc etc in peaky.
The thing is it's really really annoying when people say this because that show is set in a particular era. The show in it's own is highly glamourized (the creators said this) and what we see (especially in the case of treatment with women) is far better than what it might've been. Male superiority existed and people accepted it just like any other norm. Women were seen as objects that men could possess. We're talking about a time almost 100 years ago. I doubt that, if any of us landed in 1920s England through some miracle, we'd not be able to survive more than a week because most of us who'll land there will cry about gender equality and no one actually would give a fuck about it. So when people talk about poor treatment of women, misogyny, and bad portrayal it's not the writer's fault tbh. Women actually were pretty oppressed and I think it goes to the writer actually being brave to show it the way it was. It's just how things were back then. This show is not about the upper class or royalty. It's about the working class and the streets. So, it's very obvious when we see a lack of strong women on the show or strong women being treated badly.
Second issue. People talk all the fucking time about "characters not being fully developed" and "not explored properly". While I do agree that yeah some characters like Grace could've been developed better but the other "explored" thing is just- okay wait. So Steven Knight himself said in an interview that it's Tommy's show. It's based on Thomas Michael Shelby. He's the main character, guys. And when we see characters like Isiah Jesus, Aberama Gold, Tatiana Petrovna not being explored properly, it's actually alright. Because we only see what purpose they serve in Tommy's life. They do not exist, in their own storylines, to solve only one purpose. But in Peaky they do. Maybe their backstories are really interesting, or they are interesting characters in general, but the writer and makers of the show just wanna show us Tommy's perspective on everything because that's what the show is about.
So it's like really .. (can't find the right word, wait) .. absurd .. when people just totally disregard the time that the show is set in and the dynamics of that time.
So I wanted to talk about Elijah “Eli” Bradley for a minute
So for those… less in the know Eli Bradley was the original leader of the Young Avengers in comics books,  the second holder of the Patriot mantle and was interesting for many reasons, only one of which being his family’s legacy. His grandfather Isiah Bradley was the first Black Captain America, having gotten his powers from the Marvel Comics version of The Tuskegee Experiments but with Super Solider Serum.
Now that may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and I I get that, suffering narratives grate on my nerves too. However for me as a (at the time) younger black comics reader it resonated a lot as it showed some knowledge to dark parts of history even in mostly sanitized alternate histories in comic books, and showed that you didn’t have to let that dark past define your future  Isiah, his son Josiah and his grandson Eli all used the power they gained  to help people as heroes
. As a the leader of the Young Avengers he was shown to be a  capable and intelligent leader and even had a romance with the (at the time) newly created Kate Bishop aka Hawkeye within the pages.
Now don’t get me wrong the treatment of Eli wasn’t perfect as they definitely made it so his powers didn’t come from his bloodline but from illegal drugs which was …not a good look. Though they had his grandfather give him a blood transfusion to make his powers real like an issue later so a mixed bag,
Worse though was  anytime the Young Avengers were written by someone other than the original writers, Eli would break character and suddenly out of the blue became weirdly jealous. ate would also shift character and suddenly she’d be making eyes at the nearest available white guy (in this case Tommy Shepard aka Speed, one of the Scarlet Witches kids) a phenomenon that I’m sure many of you in the fanfiction community are familiar with, though it was jarring for the younger and arguably more innocent me to see such anti-blackness in media in real time
But those even with those faults, Eli was surprisingly good rep for an early 2000’s comic.
Until he was put on a bus and never seen again until being in the background for a recent comic event, meaning that someone other than me still remembers him
Why do I bring this up? Well because as many people have spotted, it looks like the MCU is starting to set up a Young Avengers kind of deal for the future.
Honestly in my dream MCU lineup Eli would first show up in the Falcon and Winter Solider with the same legacy backstory (but minus the powers from drug use bit just give him the blood transfusion from jump) as it could be a fascinating story and could delve into the “complicated” legacy that they talked about in trailer.
 And even if he isn’t the leader of the new Young Avengers (that will probably be Hawkeye) his story would be a great one to delve into, and since I’m spinning dreams here, maybe that could lead to him coming back in the comics as well.
But I know better.
As much as I love the MCU, I know that Eli has a bit more bite than they’d be willing to risk , and I don’t think they are bold enough to have their new Hawkeye actually have a MOC love interest out of the gate either ( Looking at you Star Wars franchise)
Anyway…. I guess all I’m saying is I miss Eli Bradley, and it’s a shame  that he’s probably the only original Young Avenger that won’t ever see  Live Action adaptation….but I can still dream.
The more I think about it, Walker is somebody to be more pitied than hated. It's not his fault he became Cap. Somebody in the Brass made the decision. And whoever made it didn't know or didn't care about his underlying issues that made him unsuitable for the job. And when it blew in their faces they threw Walker away without a second thought. And now all's that left for him is he needs to be put down like a rabid dog
I think there is important mirrorism with Walker and Isiah in that the military/gov is willing to use and exploit you when it’s convenient and toss you aside when it’s not. The racial difference showing that Isiah was imprisoned for 30 years for being a hero and Walker may have lost his military benefits but he still had his freedom.
I really enjoy Walker’s story, it shows the making of a villain, it’d put him up there with Killmonger in terms of villain backstories.
