🎉🚢🇯🇲ITS WINDRUSH DAY! 🎉🚢🇯🇲 Today marks celebration of HMT Empire Windrush arriving at Tilbury Docks in Essex. The ship carried the first Caribbean migrants to the UK to help rebuild Britain after the Second World War. In our new FREE online exhibition, we celebrate Brents's fierce relationship with those connected to the Windrush Generation. You can find this in our MULTICULTURAL BRENT section of the exhibition under THE WEST INDIAN COMES TO WILLESDEN. (Link in the Bio) @themixedmuseum @brentmuseumandarchives @tnluk @nationallotterygoodcauses @heritagefunduk @brentcouncil @brentcultureservice “We were taught to love the mother country only to find that our mother didn’t love us.” This section of the exhibition was inspired by a fascinating 1961 report we found in Brent Museum and Archives of the same name. The study enables us to discuss and highlight the importance of the presence of Caribbean migrants in Brent. The report, commissioned by the Willesden International Friendship Council and authored by Mrs Joan Maizels of the Willesden Citizens Advice Bureau, provides a glimpse into the types of attitudes held by white residents of Willesden towards recent Caribbean settlers in the area. We also provide a brief overview of the journey of Caribbean migrants to the area, inspired by material we found in Brent Museum and Archives. SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “The Standard” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNcfBR_Rm0k —Think Caribbean—Time is relaxed. Sun is friendly. Imagine singing this song on a colorful beach, birds swirling around, and waves lapping the sand. I’ve done several music gigs around the Caribbean, and I never dreamed I’d enjoy it there so much. This song takes my head into that zone. It’s from the Word2Soul Project, a gospel/neo-soul/pop assembly envisioned by lyricist Amy Mintzer. She hired me to produce demos with the goal of shopping a publishing deal. The demos turned out so well that DJs started airing them. People got excited! W2S became a series based on the templates of albums by Quincy Jones and the Alan Parsons Project—where producers created songs then used a panel of singers to interpret the songs. “The Standard” describe an immovable bottom line “standard”: A lifeline of God’s love and strength being there for me no matter how crazy I get or how life tests me. It has an upbeat island/Afro-pop vibe, and I was pleased with my keyboard work (mixed by Tim Breon).

We bring you songs and dances from the islands of Hawaii & Tahiti. Our goal is to bring a little bit of Paradise to you. We have 30, 45 & 60 minute shows, ranging from 4-6 dancers to 10 dancers.

We are He Nani O Polynesia which means "The Beauty of Polynesia" and we have been entertaining in San Diego for fifteen years. We bring to you the songs and dances from the islands of Hawaii, New Zealand & Tahiti. We have entertained at luaus, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, reunions, kid's parties, fundraisers & church bazaars for private, corporate and community events. Our audiences have ranged from twenty people to over a thousand. During the month of December we entertain our audiences with our "Christmas from the Islands" show where we perform hula and tahitian dances to favorite Christmas songs.
