One thing that will always bother me about S5 Catra’s little hissy fit… is the phrasing.
“Adora chose Shadow Weaver, okay? Not me!”
And… girly pop, what the FUCK are you talking about? Adora didn’t CHOOSE anything, much less ANYBODY. And the phrasing, oh the phrasing…
So people like to act like Catra and Adora aren’t sisters. People like to act like they’re in lesbians with eachother. People like to act like SW isn’t their mother figure, or at the very least not one of theirs.
So let’s look at this a few different ways. Depending on how you view the relationships, the phrase can change immensely.
Original: “Adora chose Shadow Weaver, okay? Not me!”
Family version: “Adora chose our shitty mom! Over her own sister!”
“Romantic” version: “Adora is in love Shadow Weaver! She’s not in love with me!”
Both???: “Adora chose our shitty mom! She’s not in love with me!”
Now tell me which one sounds more like the original. Because to me, it sounds like Catra is complaining that Adora chose her and Catra’s shitty mom over dating her. Which… given the wack ass context of relationships in this show, could mean Catra thinks Adora is in love with SW, Adora isn’t listening to her sister in favor of her mom, Adora is dumping her girlfriend for her mom, Catra lost the custody battle for Adora, or any number of confusing scenarios.
Seriously, who TF WROTE that line???
THIS EXACTLY! something about that line always sounded so weird to me because catra was comparing two different types of “love”. you put it into words perfectly, it does sound like catra is implying that adora is in love with shadow weaver. which, honestly, could be unintentional but considering how many incestuous ships or ship teases SPOP has, i wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional. either way, such a weird thing to add to the script.

I'm currently nearing the end of Chima S1 and...I hate to say it...but I see why it was kinda a failure (no offense if u like it btw, I think it is pog and slay if u do).
The first two episodes are SO FAST PACED and BATSHIT INSANE and then the pace goes into a repetitive snail crawl.
Also Cragger is kinda a confusing character for me?? I thought he was gonna kinda be like Catra from SPOP and go through a degradation to redemption arc because he is misplacing his anger on Laval, but then it turned out he is just basically being mind-controlled?? Idk if I was just understanding tone incorrectly but it seemed so much like Cragger was straight up setting up Laval and trying to betray him and be evil for some reason, but then it turned out that he was just being "silly goofy" ig???? ALSO THEY BARELY MENTION THE FACT THAT CRAGGER THINKS HIS PARENTS ARE FUCKING DEAD
It is just kinda a mess honestly FJKDSL

OKay gotta distract myself from constantly refreshing my fic and staring at numbers, by continuing my spop rewatch
If you're new here: I'm rewatching all of She-Ra for fic writing purposes, and live-blogging it, with too many screenshots. None of this is spoiler-free. I make a lot of jokes and talk about my life and make references to other shit.
Also, I find Catra's villainy to be kinda hot (okay more than just kinda hot)
s4 ep1 the coronation
"April did you rewatch the Portal scene again"
Yes, because that's where I left it paused, mind your own business
OKAY so I remember this from the first time I watched it, like, four years ago--that of all the emotional stuff this show gets 100% correct, I'm not sure Glimmer's grief over her mother is all that accurately portrayed. She just seems to "get over it" too fast?
By which I mean: yes, it's the focus of this episode, but that's basically it.
When my dad died--and keep in mind I'd been no contact for six months, I'd already done most of my grieving for him!--I was so out of it I couldn't even read anything longer than a few paragraphs for multiple months. All my writing basically screeched to a halt. And Glimmer likes her mom!
BUT tbh I keep remembering someone pointing out that each season covers WAY more time than I originally assumed. Because the first time I watched this I assumed we were like, literally a week or two after the events at the end of s3. It's probably closer to several months. And that makes way more sense.
Also who else is confused as to what "princess" and "queen" even mean in this universe, like there are several princesses who are clearly in charge of their kingdoms? is just when their parents DIE that they become queens? if so wtf is wrong with Frosta's parents "lol you're eight now, time for you to be in charge of literally everything, and you'll never see us again"??
Tumblr media
okay but literally did they only ask Mermista to do the flowers as a joke bc I am literally sad for her now :(
Tumblr media
There she is!!! 😍
Also I read some (old) commentary from Nate about why her hair is flatter this season and nooooooo
Tumblr media
oh hey remember that you tied up Adora
okay do you remember this specific time you tied up Adora lolol
Tumblr media
"Don't talk about my ex-girlfriend!!! it's a very sensitive topic *sobs*"
Tumblr media
Glimmer's coronation robe is so great. I wonder if, like IRL ones, it's made out some insanely hard-to-get fur and weighs approximately five tons.
Tumblr media
The line delivery of "BOW! CALM DOWN!" made me laugh so hard I had to play it for other people and then watch it again.
Tumblr media
"Power changes people"
Not everyone is like you!!! >:(
(if anything, responsibility is more likely to change Glimmer)
Tumblr media
poor bb
Tumblr media
it's Entrapta's little naked mole rat robot!! which is also somehow also a squeaky toy??
Tumblr media
Scorpia wants SO BAD to find a way to see Catra as not a terrible person
Tumblr media
the robot didn't deserve that
Tumblr media
"Don't talk about my ex-girlfriend!!! it's a very sensitive topic *sobs*" (pt 2)
Tumblr media
Scorpia is such a cinnamon roll
Tumblr media
Adora literally only owns like three outfits. And this is her "nice dress."
Tumblr media
Bow's dad's!!
Also this is framed so much like a wedding, even the music is wedding-ish
Tumblr media
I'M NOT SAYING A DAMN THING ABOUT THIS
Tumblr media
A FRIEND
Tumblr media
okay maybe not
Tumblr media
I'm sticking with my theory that this is several months after the end of s3 which means she's been like this (unable to teleport) for a while
Tumblr media
Yeah, people have discussed this a great deal, re: grief: most people want to talk about the people they've lost, if you give them a safe time/place to do it. You don't have to avoid the subject.
Tumblr media
;_;
Tumblr media
I once again ask myself: where were you keeping the sword this whole time lolol
Tumblr media
NICE (Glimmer put the fancy lantern into the little niche for it)
Tumblr media
Aziraphale? Is that you?
Tumblr media
IT'S SO CUTE
Tumblr media
I wonder when Angella recorded this
Tumblr media
YEAH!
Tumblr media
where did you get the new outfit 2. isn't your other arm cold 3. she's fucking purring
Tumblr media
She says this the exact same way she says "Hey, Adora" and I went "EUGGGH" out loud
Tumblr media
Some people were like, "oh, her redemption arc in s5 was so rushed" and meanwhile I'm like, "I wish they'd made her deranged and mean a little longer, actually. For Reasons."
Anyway I've run out of images unless I reblog the post, SO: she yanks the little crystal thing Entrapta made out of Hordak's suit so he collapses and then taunts him with the knowledge that Horde Prime is not gonna be happy to find out he can't even subdue the Rebellion, basically puts herself in charge, end of episode
WOOOOO

In one of your replies to an anon who told you to leave lily alone, you said her content made you hypersexualize yourself at a young age. Could you explain that a little more in depht? Don't have to if it makes you uncomfortable tho
Sorry for the late response, I had to gather my words properly. But this will still most likely be very incoherent. Anyway:
To put this in the most simplest way possible, when I was a kid I was a huge fan of Lily and her content. I’d discovered her channel when I’d visit my relatives in New York, to such an extent that it was my favorite part of the trip.
Lily’s content was and still is very sexual. While that in of itself is no issue, her videos primarily target towards kids. Lily herself is aware of this, given multiple of her friends and partners have said they began watching her at a young age. But this was never addressed as an issue nor odd in her videos, so I was normalized to this.
And at the time, I was struggling a lot with understanding what was normal for me to know about at that age. I won’t go too much into this simply because I don’t feel comfortable sharing the details but to put it simply, I wasn’t aware that wasn’t normal for me at that age.
Eventually, I made my Tumblr account and decided to follow both her and Mikaila. Mikaila was actually one of my first followers, so I was pretty excited to know someone I looked up to liked me.
Lily then followed me too.
I was ecstatic, because someone I would’ve called a “mother figure” was now liking me.
I was seventeen when this occurred, for the record.
Lily and me began to reblog from one another at increasing frequency. She was awfully nice to me in specific, even though my blog was mostly centered around anti catradora and criticizing spop. Regardless, she took a liking to me.
When I’d began venting, she even checked up on me to make sure if I was alright and told me how I didn’t deserve to feel the way I was feeling. I was in a toxic friend group at the time, and she flat out told me that they were dicks. Given her influence on me, I immediately realized she was right and left said friends. My love of her increased. She’d helped me out, she was nice to me in a way I’d never really experienced by an adult figure before. She even congratulated me on coming out twice. I was one of the people she’s reblogged from the most that year. So I thought that I could trust her. I would even dared to consider us friends.
Some days after coming out as trans, I’d realized she wasn’t following me. Which I thought was strange but I thought it was probably just a mistake, I do that sometimes too but I realize the accident and come back.
She suddenly stopped with the support. It was random, I was very confused. I was trying to figure out what I’d done wrong, I tried to get her back. I’d even made more suggestive jokes and reblogged nsfw as a means of trying to earn her approval.
After some time she’d given me it back. I was relieved, but also anxious. I didn’t know what I’d done wrong but I knew I couldn’t repeat the mistake.
I made more sexual comments, I reblogged even more from her and it was mutual. I tried my very best to keep her around through sexualizing a lot of my blog and even myself.
It didn’t work, obviously. Because she stopped after some time and I then realized how she was a piece of shit.
After I went public with disliking her and said I was Japanese myself, she proceeded to sexualize Asians for a bit. If I’d been a fan still, I would’ve seen this as further normalization and made myself more sexual.
I’m probably gonna edit this.

obsessed with everyone on that post like "not true! there's never more than one woman in the media!" 1. that's literally the type of excuse the post is trying to shut down. 2. that's. still misogyny. like that's misogyny on the creator's end but it's still misogyny. 3. have you tried maybe reading something other than shonen manga and watching something other than a marvel movie, because idk your choice of media could be part of it. like it's actually INSANE to me that you can be on tumblr where shows like spop and the owl house and atla are popular and think there's truly NO MEDIA with good characters. like those aren't the only examples of course it's more than just kids cartoons but. seeing as these people probably don't watch anything without an established tumblr fandom
REAL Also the adamant denial on that post that there’s any piece of media with well written female characters??????
Ppl are also discussing how it’s bc “most ppl in fandoms are attracted to men” like. have u never seen a lesbian in a fandom space.
There’s also been several examples listed of fandoms with shows that have majority female characters and STILL the mlm ship is more popular so that debunks most of the arguments anyways
it’s literally not possible to apply all the excuses ppl are coming up with to every single piece of media??? And more often than not now when female characters are poorly done the male characters are too bc the writing is and all around, or even if it’s just the female characters that’s once again: a different only semi related issue (still misogyny too tho like u said) and not applicable to every show or movie ever??
And once again STRANGER THINGS, which is a very popular well known live action PG-13 TV show has relatively well written female characters (there are some issues but the women in the show are written with care and complexity which is way more than a lot of shows can say, it’s the fandom that tries to take the complexity away) with chemistry yet the most popular ship is steddie, and even byler, another mlm ship, is not as popular as the mlm ship between two dudes that had like 3 interactions, much less ronance in which the two characters in the ship had a whole arc together and one is canonically a lesbian.
And the way ronance and elmax were both voted out on that poll before jopper bc everyone was so quick to sacrifice them.. like Ik it’s Reddit but still this is a FANDOM SPACE I know you guys aren’t choosing a straight ship over sapphics 🤨🤨 the only scenario where I actually prefer a straight ship to a sapphic one is lumax over elmax and that is a rare, rare occurrence
Anyways, rambled, but ur so right and the fact that this is literally a phenomenon in almost every single fandom but ppl are still trying to excuse it for anything other than what it is like come ON.
Oh and fyi this is the post I’m talking abt if anyone is seeing this and extremely confused

I just started rewatching SPOP for the millionth time, and I was again so completely struck by how much I relate to Adora’s journey out of the Horde. Her moments of confusion over things everyone else knows about, her pretending to know badly, her fascination with new things in a world that suddenly has color and vibrancy.
SPOP really hits all the notes of a kid leaving a certain kind of community, and I’m not sure I’ve seen it so well done before, especially in a kid’s show where the reference isn’t direct.
S1, Ep 7 always tears me open, the one where Shadow Weaver has her spies whispering to Adora. It’s so good, and so true. Even after you leave, those voices still try to drag you back.
I find a lot of healing in seeing Adora’s experiences, especially in the early episodes.

Ok, I don’t want to say what story is inspiring this. Because it feels like the result of a still-developing writer, and the plot, world building, yada of the story shows a lot of promise.
But this is killing me, and I gotta rant.
Because the underlying mentality that lead to this situation ruined everything else about the story for me.
Stories. Need. Character. Development.
And if a hero ends the first novel with the same frame of mind, just given more reason to hate the bad guys and being granted the external power (and ego boost) necessary to take them on….
“I am right and therefore no one needs to question my methods to make a better world” is not a character arc.
At least not a heroic one; please see Daenerys Targaryen.
And no, “I found someone who loves me for exactly who I am and therefore do not need to change anything to have a relationship with them” equally is not a character arc.
(And for anyone questioning, given my blog, no, this is not about Catra. A, I have no reproach against criticizing SPoP. B, Catra had a character arc, that was just hamstrung by lack of planning on how much needed to be shown to sell the development.)
At the risk of spoiling what story I’m ranting on further, also:
If you absolutely have to have your main character be more brilliant that everyone and always right,
Don’t tell the story in first person.
Because if your audience has spent enough time consuming media to be used to being able to form their own opinions?
It stops being a story, and devolves into a lecture at the reader.
There’s a reason Sherlock Holmes stories aren’t narrated by the detective.
Edit: Ok, yes, two were. Later ones, when Doyle was an experienced writer. And you know why they’re fun? Holmes is as stingy with insight in first person as he is with Watson!
And even in-character for the story - he actively laments sharing too much to give the narrative justice the way Watson would have, despite the reader still being confused, because he assumes the reader is smart enough to pick up on the clues as presented.
Seriously, read “The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier” (writing tip: have the details narrated well to the smart character, so we get the same info but still need to do the work ourselves) and “The Adventure of the Lion’s Mane” (writing tip: share when the smart character is in the dark; say when they get insight, but don’t say what it was until the reveal). Interesting character insight for Holmes, and mystery maintained.

i was aroace. glory was more like a sister to me than anything.
she was. very literally. my first and only friend. for a long time.
i lived nearby her village for a few years — i think i met glory when we were around six or seven, and the whole…eugh, didn’t happen until we were eight or nine.
fast forward to a thousand years in the future, at the end of the movie canon, and… something about what i did to take out the cannon or something, like. brought her back to life, i guess.
it was. weird. she was my age now, bust last time i’d seen her has been when we were kids.
i kept an eye on her from a distance. she stayed with ambrosius since he was her last living descendant, despite being old enough to be her dad.
potential ? suicide cw: i think it turned out that nineteen had been the age she’d originally died at. she’d either rebelled against the people in charge and “tragically fallen in the ensuing chaos” (i call bull) or she’d straight up hanged herself in her chambers. there were a lot of theories.
either way, she was. reminiscent of adora spop, actually. in terms of looks. pretty much exactly like this.
i was, uh. not a fan of this development. that was part of why it took me so long to come out of hiding and say hi to ballister.
she was pretty confused, though, and since bally knew about what’d happened between us by that point… i ended up getting stuck on something that was half playdate, half babysitting duty. and half awkward arranged marriage courtship. and all dad with two new foster kids.
i remember one time we went to an aquarium, and i turned into a shark and, uhhhh. got pretty Menacing. not proud of that. and she just stormed off to who knows where while i abused the credit card he gave me in the gift shop. and also shoplifted from the gift shop.
(bally was pissed, but i was like, well, that’s what you get for sticking me with my sister with no supervision!)
-
unrelated bullshit that won’t quit bugging me until i write it down: ballister’s amputation was like. somewhere between a forequarter amp and a shoulder disarticulation. idunno how to explain it. his arm had a ball, his shoulderzone had an implanted socket.

Kur twins' outfit designs
Sooo I finally sat down and decided on final designs for Anillis (young Prime) and his brother Hec-Tor!
These are their regular day-to-day looks (how they'll appear in my Horde Prime's origin story, or Kur twins au, how I'm going to call it from now on)
Tumblr media
Despite very lazy simple rendering ( i wanted to focus on it more at first, but then the file crushed a few times so i gave up lol) I still can say these drawings are quite detailed, so tap/click to stare at them in higher quality c:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also added close-ups of their faces, because I WANT you to look at Prime's fake ass smile in 4k
Tumblr media
It was super fun working on their outfits and I have A LOT to say about them. These quick notes I left are just the tip of the iceberg lol
Under the cut I fully discuss every aspect of their designs, meaning and symbolism behind them and what they can tell about Kur brothers: their personalities, their upbringing, family dynamic, their social status, hidden insecurities and so on!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Treat this post more like a part 1 of their introduction. The 2nd part will be all about their lives before the events of the main story (their childhood and adolescence). In other words: today I'm discussing the covers, next time - the books themselves :)
I hope you'll find my commentary entertaining!
First things first, I want to clear one thing out: Anillis and Hec-Tor here are young adults, somewhere in their early 20s (in human terms!). Their exact age however is not the most important number in the story and is in fact still unknown even to me, so here’s that :p
Okay, now I can start!
Face, body and and all that stuff:
- If you take away the heels, the boys are as tall as a regular horde clone. An average height for male spacebats their age, still not perfect height for Anillis :/
- Fun fact: spacebat society had their own beauty standards, and when it came to facial markings, there were two extremes of what was considered ideal: lines that covered more than just you face (forhead, back/top of the head, ears and neck) and formed fancy elegant patterns OR very minimalistic neat symmetrical lines. Anillis and Hec-Tor had the latter and for that were considered very pretty
Another fun fact: spacebats who had such perfect features were lovingly called 'angels' or 'dolls', and the boys were called that A LOT throughout their lives
- They have the same diamond thingy on their torso as Prime has - since I headcanon it to be his birthmark, not part of the outfit. Just because it’s cute uwu
- The twins are nowhere near as buff/muscular and strong as clones, and for obvious reason: they were never trained/programmed/made for war or hard labor. They never had any interest in fighting/combat training or sports (they do enjoy gymnastics tho, ESPECIALLY mental gymnastics, it’s their favorite)
And they, unlike Prime, had no need or desire to look Big and Powerful and Intimidating. All Anillis and Hec-Tor wanted is for people to always enjoy their company and treat them as if they're the most important people in the room, but that's all c:
NOW let's talk about the elephant in the room: Anillis’ skin discoloration. Yes, in this au Horde Prime used to have the same chronic condition (or “defect”) as Hordak. Can’t tell much about it yet because huge spoilers, but there’s two interesting non spoiler-y things you can notice right away:
1) Anillis' arms are not all skin and bone and the skin itself is still more blue than white. It indicates that his illness didn’t take a toll on him until recently
2) Despite them being identical twins, Hec-Tor doesn’t seem to be affected by the "defect" at all
Hair:
Their hair means a lot to the boys. And it something Anillis is very protective of (he has his reasons). They'll never trust their hair to any stylist, and don't really need one, since the twins are each other's stylists! Besides, brushing, braiding, taking care of and playing with each other’s hair have been their favorite bonding activity since childhood :3
Now to their individual hairstyles
Hec-Tor - This is NOT how it naturally looks like. Both his and Anillis' hair is naturally more poofy and wavey
Straightening his hair and gelling it back has become a part of Hec-Tor's rutine. He finds the process tedious and time consuming, but he still does it mostly every day. Only because that one time Anillis peer pressured him said he looks better like this
Tumblr media
Anillis - as he got older he wanted to look as different from his brother as possible, so he could finally be seen and treated as an individual and not just a part of the duo, but he hated the idea of dyeing or cutting his hair short, so he came up with an alternative
Not only is this hairstyle practical and pretty, he likes how his countless accessories sound - it’s fun and calming. Plus it makes totally-not-a-pick-me Anillis even more noticeable and recognizable: people hear familiar clinking in the distance and immediately go “Hey, it’s Anillis :)” or “Oh NO, it’s Anillis”
Tumblr media
Use of color:
The boys share mostly the same color pallet and here’s 3 reasons for this:
1) reference to Prime and clone’s canon designs
2) despite all their effort to look different the twins still have similar preferences in fashion and are used to wear clothes from same collections
3) color white and silver jewelry is kinda a religious thing in their society? Of course, everybody can wear those without giving it much thought, but at the same time white garments and silver are important attributes worn by local believers and ecclesiastics. So, are Kur brothers religious? No, but they still are in the eyes of the religious community they were raised in. So the boys keep wearing said attributes so as not to raise questions no matter where and with whom they're seen and no matter what they do. If anyone realizes that famous Kur twins not only left their temple, but also lost their faith it can result in a MAJOR scandal. Why? Well, because spoilers c:
Thus when Anillis began to wear more black it almost felt as if he was now trying to distant himself from his old community even further
Clothes:
Tumblr media
[an old doodle from last year]
Kur twins are not royalty and can't really call themselves nobles either. They were born into a family of little-known scientists and, having grown up, followed in their parents' footsteps: with one of them becoming an expert in robotics and the other choosing to study bioengineering (i swear it is going somewhere)
However, due to certain circumstances, the boys were actually 'raised by the community', meant they literally had to live in a temple with other kids and attend local analogue of catholic school. It also meant that the twins spent most of their childhood and teenage years wearing compulsory uniforms. Only when they reached the age of majority they were finally free to wear whatever they wanted and try to find their own unique style
After years of being forced to wear the same boring uniforms the boys really enjoyed to dress in something that'd attract the most attention: be it loud shining jewerly, high heels and platforms or revealing clothes
(still had to wear at least one white item of clothing and at least one silver accessory)
Since, again, they're no royalty, their everyday outfits are pretty simplistic and casual, though still fashionable and very impractical. However, both Anillis and Hec-Tor have a special love for fancy gowns, but those are for big occasions only (but good for them! they will eventually have to show up at the big event and wear pretty dresses! hooray!)
Hec-Tor's outfit:
- "Bat wings" cape is a traditional outerwear that used to be only handmade and passed down from parent (or any close relative) to child, but after the war* a huge cultural shift happened which has also affected the fashion. That's when "modernized" version of the cape was made. The shape has changed, no longer resembling bat wings, as well as changed the fabric. Elderly bats didn't like that at all, but at least the tradition wasn't dead. Hec-Tor likes his cape, but whenever he has to visit his old teachers he takes it off, just so a short visit wouldn't turn into 2 hour lecture about his appearance
*yup there was a war, nope i won't elaborate >:}
- If you've ever worn skin tight mini skirts/dresses you can as well say that it is nearly impossible to walk in them without readjusting them every two minutes. And yet somehow it's no trouble for Hec-Tor. He was definitely a male model in his past life😌or he's just a hoe
- There're some very tiny and beraly noticable red accents in Hec-Tor's design. You can actually find color red if you zoom in enough! Did I do it to hint on a subtle parallel between Hec-Tor and another well known character? 👀 I dunno
- I was joking when I said Hec-Tor "started the trend" on huge boob windows, but he surely did it before Prime! Horde Prime already took everything from his brother, but to copy the boob window... this was officially the worst thing he could ever do to Hec-Tor :p
But in all seriousness, I wanted Hec-Tor's outfit to resemble Prime’s future look and clones’ uniform at the same time. (Prime - upper half of the attire and that talon/ring thing on his hand, clones - cape and to some extent - hair). To Anillis Hec-Tor was his equal. To Prime Hec-Tor was... well
Anillis' outfit:
- You can see that his two looks represent Anillis before and after he found out about his illness
1) The first one is made from lighter fabrics and is more open, transparent, mostly prefectly matching Hec-Tor's
Anillis is still wearing his white outfit tho, but only at home, where no one but Hec-Tor can see him. At home he's comfortable enough to show his skin. At home color white is just a pretty color
2) The other is more closed, warmer but darker, contrasting Hec-Tor. Now he and Hec-Tor don't look like a pair of dolls from one set and there's hope that they won't be mistaken for one another anymore
He wears the second one for the main reason to hide his discolorated skin. But also, after his illness finally took at toll on him he was done trying to pretend like he's still a good faithful boy, he was just too tired at this point. So, he didn't just stopped wearing white. To make his point clear to his old community, he changed it to black - Despite me mostly sticking to canon color pallete, greenish accents in his design are not bright neon/citrin green, but softer mint geen (or turquoise?). I didn't know why i wanted to use this shade, maybe just because it looks better on black. But now I think I can see symbolism in Prime going from soft and more "friendly" color to bright and more "agressive"
- I remember someone pointed out that screens in Prime's throne room look a lot like peacock's tail. I thought it's a really cool detail and wanted to do something similar with Anillis' design. I decided to add long trains of fabric, but make them look more like a closed tail, since at this point in timeline Anillis/Prime has yet to 'spread his feathers' ...in every sense :p
Tumblr media
[ This may be a meme, but the beef between Anillis and peafowl is in fact real X) ]

I like ur takes and I just wanted to share some stuff from another side. I watched spop as I was in my teen years, incredibly sheltered, queer, and lashing out because I was also dealing with abusive family dynamics. So… yeah I shipped it. I idealized it. And I heavily identified with Catra. But unlike with Zuko(who I also identify with) Catra didn’t change.
Every time she’d travel to a new part of the world I thought omg her moment is coming! Escape!! But she’d just get into a slap fight with Adora and then go back to the Horde. It was so strange it felt like every other character was in a story progression show and Catra was the villain of an episodic show until s5
And s5 was…. Weird. I don’t understand how Catra has a change of heart by getting more hurt by Horde Prime. She was getting hurt the whole series??? I still cried and was elated at the series finale but only bc I wanted an Adora who’d forgive me and love me and say I wasn’t bad. And I think a lot of people are like that.
Everything about the way Catra is framed points to her redemption even in the first episode… but it just makes me feel insulted now. To me as a survivor… it’s like they waved a magic wand and killed off the abuser and gave Catra a gf and that was supposed to fix it. It doesn’t work like that. My abuser died and it made things WORSE for a while (I think it would especially damage someone like Adora since Shadow Weaver “sacrificed” herself and therefore can’t be bad ever) . And I’m not looking for hyper realism in a Princess cartoon but at the time I watched it I couldn’t have really used yknow ?? Some guidance??? Something that wasn’t a fantasy lala ending that once the initial high wore off left me feeling confused and hollow. There is nothing in spop that teaches you how to get that kind of happy ending. Especially if you’re Catra who just says I love you and is suddenly resurrecting ponytail Jesus. To the me who identified with her, it was mostly about wanting to FEEL redeemed through her. FEELING strong and badass and GOOD and like things would be okay even if I was never a princess type. The actual result was feeling like I would never attain a happy ending of any sort because Catra’s didn’t feel real and her “arc” had no footsteps to follow in. How do you make a kids show and not teach good lessons??? Idk the show bad no matter who you identified with was my whole point.
At least I had/have zuko.
Also shipping zuko x sokka x suki is based I do too lmao.
first off, i'm so sorry about all the trauma you went through. i hope you are healing now, and thank you for sharing your story.
secondly, i think this is what a lot of fans felt. i can understand that people relate to catra. hell, even i relate to her a little. i know what it's like to be considered useless and weak, and to desperately want validation from a parent. i get it. when i say i dislike catra, it's not because she's a traumatized child or even because she adopted many of the toxic habits that shadow weaver portrayed. it's that she faced no consequences for any of this.
as much as spop tried to be mature, in the end, it was really childish. s5 got rid of all the complexity and just went "everyone deserves forgiveness", ignoring all of the glaring issues it had yet to solve. the protagonists forgave catra because the writers wanted them to, not because that's how it would have went down in real life.
most spop critics aren't heartless monsters who despise abuse victims, they are people who relate to either catra or adora. and they just want to see a better representation of abuse victims.
it would have been much more fulfilling and satisfying to have catra and adora take some time explore themselves and heal from their trauma, separated from each other. this kind of relationship is harmful for both of them. as long as adora is with catra, she'll continue blaming herself and putting pressure on herself, feeling as if she was responsible for everyone's problems. and as long as catra stays with adora, she'll continue deflecting her issues and being envious of adora. they needed time away from each other, but spop chose to invalidate trauma instead.
it's a pity that spop was one of the very few representation we had, at the time it came out, so people genuinely believe that c//a is a healthy ship, because they don't have many other examples to compare it to. i'm glad there are more and more queer shows coming out lately, and most of them seem to portray healthy relationships.

so like,,,did anyone ever ask adora what she wanted before catra did? did anyone else ever question her intense hero complex instead of saying “oh that’s just how she is”? adora’s questioned it before, like in season 3 when she asked light hope “dont i get a say in what happens to me? don’t i get a choice?” (and that’s frankly the only time i can remember her falling apart like that and questioning her entire life), and light hope immediately shot her down with the “you dont get to choose, you were chosen” bs. but did she bring up the subject again after that? everything she does in the following seasons is justified by “im she ra and i don’t have a choice. i have to do this”
and then catra came and, truthfully, saved her because she was the only person asking why adora was always putting herself last and hurting herself. no one else tried to stop her from taking the failsafe after she said she’d do it except for catra. bow and glimmer didn’t push to be with her in the heart like catra did. catra is the only person who ever called bs on adora for her self destructive tendencies, and got mad and upset with her for it in a way no one else has, and it saved her and etheria in the end because adora chose to be selfish in what would’ve been her last moment alive and decided she wanted to be with catra. being a selfless hero didn’t save etheria. putting herself first for once did. and she wouldn’t have been able to do that without catra.
i think about this a lot.

complicated topic, but when talking about catra’s actions you have to keep in mind how much being abused as a child messes up your perception of the world.
there’s a lot you have to lay out.
the first being that catra grew up in an inherently hostile environment. i’ve said this before but the horde is a metaphor for an abusive family. catra was raised to be a soldier by people who hate her, and was most likely treated like property (rather than a person.)
the second being that adora was the only person who loved catra, while also being the person who caused the majority of her (unintentional, of course) pain.
this messes you up. catra’s perception of love is completely skewered by her upbringing. to catra, love comes at a price. adora loves her, but catra has to be lesser than her to keep that love. adora loves her, but catra has to do everything she wants to keep that love (which isn’t true but as i said, her perception of love is skewered.) which is something catra does comply to up until the point that adora leaves. because adora leaving is the catalyst of that love. everyone else (the fandom) understands why adora left. it makes sense. the horde is evil. they’re hurting people. but catra doesn’t see that in the right way, or she’s so blinded by her hurt that she doesn’t care. because catra did everything right and adora still left, catra still wasn’t good enough.
and that’s why she has such a hard time accepting everyone elses love and friendship, which is why she hurts them (i’m not excusing her actions)
catra is so violently self destructive right now. she’s hurting her friends because she’s terrified of being happy and she doesn’t know who she would be if she was happy. in a way, none of it is real to her. if scorpia tells catra she loves her, catra doesn’t believe it, because who could love her? not even adora could stick around. if entrapta does something to save catra, it obviously comes at a price, entrapta expects something of her and catra feels stuck.
catra isn’t evil at her core. she’s not abusive. she wants to be happy, and she wants to love, but she doesn’t know how. the only love catra has ever known was the love she received from adora, and that love hurt.
catra’s actions aren’t excusable because yes, she hurt her friends. she hurt entrapta, she hurt scorpia and she hurt adora. she hurt a lot of people. but her actions can be explained, they can be fixed (with time and effort and care) and she can be redeemed.
basically, the point of this post was to say that right now catra is accepting the love she thinks she deserves, and that is to say, she doesn’t think she deserves to be loved at all.

Don't know why but Percabeth and Catradora from SPOP give me the same vibes
Like Adora and Percy are heroes even if they don't want it, it's part of their nature to protect their friends. They're hella powerfuls but never act on full potential unless it's to protect their loved ones. They are impulsive, but really smart, have a lot of preasure put on them from the start are insecure and confused by this new world but value the people they trust above all else and are ready to sacrifice themselfs for those.
Annabeth and catra are scared of being leaved, were manipulated by a important figure (Luke and Shadoweaver) and always were treated as the second options, are jealous from their significant other and tend to push people away acting rude. Doesn't have powers but are really god fighters.
But when they finally end up together they complete each other. They aren't perfect but they understand it and help the other to evolve.
That's why I love them so much.

let’s talk about perfuma. imo, she’s one of the best characters in the show despite being underdeveloped, and i wanna explain why. she could’ve been extremely average, just some lanky flower girl that doesn’t believe in violence and loves everyone, but she is so much more than that (and it pisses me off that y’all reduce her to that).
in her introductory episode, perfuma is clearly in denial about the horde almost destroying plumeria. she doesn’t want to acknowledge the problem, wants someone else to take care of it for her. she’s scared of change, and that is because change makes you vulnerable. if things always stay the same, there’s a whole lot less danger and uncertainty, and therefore you’re safe. secure. perfuma’s kingdom is dying and she can’t bear to accept it because it is unknown to her. it’s putting her in a position where she is no longer secure. this fear of vulnerability can also be seen at the beginning of 1x10 when the princess alliance falls apart and she literally says ‘being together makes us vulnerable.’
the thing is, perfuma isn’t wrong. look at her choice of words. she says that being together makes them vulnerable, not weak. here, she kind of has the words mixed up, but we see that by s5 she has come to understand the difference. that’s what’s so great about perfuma, her motivation to do better, her hunger for self-improvement. it’s why she’s such an important part of catra’s redemption, actually, because she embodies the kind person catra is or wants to be.
let me explain: perfuma is an angry, impatient, short-tempered character. we are shown this again and again with her passive aggression to others and how easily mermista can annoy her with trivial things (sitting in her seat in the war room, for example). catra is also an angry, impatient character, but perfuma works every day to manage those emotions. she knows she needs them, she uses them as a tool (calling catra out, for example, is a time they were practically pivotal for getting her point across) but she also acknowledges they can hurt the people she loves. we know she does a meditation ritual each morning and we see in 4x02 how quickly she can unravel without it. she wants to be better. she puts the work in. that is such a valuable lesson for a character like catra who has always felt she’s just not good enough, she’s always going to be this angry and unlovable and no one can do anything about it.
so, 4x02. it’s a brilliant episode for perfuma’s character, really, and the first proper development we’ve had since 1x04. we see her anger, her impatience, but we also see her self-doubt. her belief that she’s inadequate, ‘just a flower girl.’ this is also when we get introduced to her little mantra that becomes a bit of a motif later on, ‘i can do this.’ we know perfuma doesn’t wholeheartedly believe this, but she says it anyway because she wants to. perfuma wants to be better. she will do whatever she can to be her best self, whether that be actually conquering her gripes with cacti or realising there’s a loophole with the roots (love that conflict resolution by the way, another good deconstruction of hero bs by spop).
this episode is also significant because it comes back to perfuma’s fear of change, of vulnerability. she’s thrown into a situation she doesn’t want to be in, one she feels miserably unprepared for, and she hasn’t done the one thing that puts her at her best beforehand, but she pulls through in the end because she is surrounded by people that support her, that listened to her and consoled her when she was vulnerable. 4x02 teaches perfuma the power of self-worth and the power of true, mutual, unconditional love, which can only come with vulnerability.
and this is where her character gets really interesting, in my humble opinion. ngl, one of the reasons i love perfuma so much is because she’s a pisces and i am too. i’m not gonna go astrology hoe on you rn, i’m just using this to demonstrate the part of her character that teaches others. pisces, if you don’t know, love to play therapist. we like to help the people around us with whatever strifes they may have because we think we’re fucking great at it. perfuma actually is.
you know how i said perfuma learns the importance of self-belief and vulnerability? yeah, she teaches both of those lessons to other characters in s5. like i said, perfuma is a character who values self-betterment and also happens to be a pisces, so when she sees scorpia, riddled with so much self-doubt and such low self-esteem, her immediate response is just i’m gonna teach that bitch how to love herself. and she does!
i’ve seen some people say they don’t like scorfuma because it seemed as though the writers just decided to ‘fix’ all of scorpia’s problems by giving her a girlfriend. that’s very dumb, first of all because they aren’t even together by the end of the show, they’re just interested in one another. second, the whole point of she-ra is that we’re stronger together. scorpia doesn’t go through growth in s5 because a girl likes her, she goes through growth because someone is showing her support and love for the first time in her life and that empowers her. you know, the worth that scorpia finds in herself doesn’t hinge on perfuma, like it did with catra. it’s about her as an individual, and perfuma so clearly makes it about that when her big lesson revolves around singing. scorpia loves singing. perfuma tells her she should do it because she enjoys it, a sentiment you’d never hear in the horde, and when scorpia does sing, she is actively rejecting the people who did make all her self-worth hinge on them catra. she’s doing something for herself, because she enjoys it, because it makes her happy, because she can.
it’s that same mantra: i can do this, i can do this. i really love how this was brought back from 4x02, how perfuma repurposed something that taught her such a valuable lesson for someone else. perfuma and scorpia are great foil characters actually, both constantly underestimated and thought of as weak by their groups, but some of the strongest characters in the show due to their deep value of love and self. i can do this, and i know i can because you believe in me, because i believe in myself. it’s brought back again in 5x10, when the last thing perfuma says before scorpia breaks the beam is ‘i know you can [pull through]’. she tells catra she believes in scorpia. it’s that belief, that support from other people that empowers the self to believe it too. we are stronger together, you know??
anyways, onto vulnerability. return to the fright zone is in my top ten episodes of the whole fucking show and you might think that’s a bit weird but i don’t. 5x10 encompasses so many important themes of spop so well and tells them with scorfuma and spinnetossa, our two side lesbian couples. this is significant since perfuma literally draws a parallel between her and catra at the end of the episode, and catradora and spinnetossa have always been significant to one another. i’m gonna say it, perfuma is the reason catra is finally able to confess to adora in 5x13. i’ve already talked about how important perfuma is to catra’s motivation to improve, but she literally makes catra rethink everything about strength and vulnerability, two words catra has a lot of feelings about.
catra fears vulnerability. we know this. she has such a deep love for those important to her but is never able to articulate it because she worries she’ll be taken advantage of, shot down, laughed at, whatever. all of this stems from the abuse she suffered at shadow weaver’s hands and her attachment issues, and it’s also why catra pretends to hate scorpia’s very open displays of affection and love: she sees it as weak because she has been taught to, but it’s all she ever really wanted to be.
we also know perfuma used to fear vulnerability. she doesn’t any more. the entirety of the episode leading up to her and catra’s heart-to-heart is her being vulnerable, putting herself in a position where she’s in danger but believing it’s worth it. and it is. despite what everyone said to her, perfuma is right: it was worth it. she got through to scorpia, even if it was only for a moment. she literally spells it out to us and catra with one of the best lines in the whole show: it’s hard, keeping your heart open. it makes you vulnerable, but it doesn’t make you weak, and i have to believe it’s worth it.
back in 1x10, perfuma was right: being together makes you vulnerable. horde prime tries to use people’s relationships against them, that’s literally the plot of save the cat, the point of pitting catra and adora against one another. he sees them as weak, just like shadow weaver deems adora’s feelings for catra ‘confusing’, just like light hope insisted adora was a danger to her friends as long as she was around them. they were all wrong. yes, they’re vulnerable. perfuma acknowledges that vulnerability puts you in danger, that it’s difficult to do that, but she knows it doesn’t make you weak. weakness vs strength is a big conflict in 5x10 literally introduced to us with netossa’s theories on everyone’s weaknesses in the first few minutes.
like perfuma says, friendship isn’t a weakness. it’s her greatest strength. her belief in love is literally what saves her and adora’s lives, it’s what saves everyone who got chipped, glimmer, bow. belief in love, both of others and yourself, is what saves adora in her dying moments. perfuma summarises she-ra’s entire fucking message to us repeatedly in 5x10 and she tells it to catra because catra is the one who will do the most with it. that glance at adora, it’s obvious what it means. perfuma is telling catra she should be open with adora about her feelings because you have to believe it’s worth it.
you won’t get anywhere waiting for other people to make the move. she-ra couldn’t heal plumeria’s lands, so plumeria had to fight their own battle alongside her no matter how much they felt unable to. the rebellion couldn’t move mara’s ship, so perfuma had to despite thinking she wasn’t strong enough. the reason they always win in the end is because they have each other, they have love and support and people motivating them to do better. just like perfuma motivates herself to do better.
it’s the mantra. i can do this. i can be vulnerable and still win, because i have love. and it’s hard, it’s so fucking hard to be vulnerable when you’ve feared it all your life and you’re so angry, so hurt, but you have to believe it’s worth it. and it is. it is, it is, it is, love is stronger than anything and being vulnerable for the people you love is the only way you can ever get what you want from them. perfuma as a character embodies that, having learnt it herself, and teaches the lesson to one of the characters who needs it the most.
adora is dying, and catra loves her, and she knows she does, and she just has to believe. adora is dying, and she loves catra, and she knows she does, but she doesn’t believe. not until catra teaches her too, in that moment, to realise they were all wrong, light hope, shadow weaver, horde prime. adora doesn’t need to let go, she needs to hold on and believe she will be pulled back up by the girl she loves. she needs to believe she deserves it. that it’s worth it.
and it is.
