you absolutely already know this, but i adore your work. i think it's hard to avoid the pressure of being surrounded by people we might consider "true artists," but the fact is that, frankly, everyone who makes art is an artist.

before this year, i hadn't drawn a complete piece in nearly three years. the line work i did produce felt abysmal and i was tempted to give up. then, i saw your comic and i thought, "wow, that's really cute, and it looks like a fun style to emulate."

i drew you, pondering me, eating grass. and it WAS fun. i forgot how fun it could be. i can draw lesbian horses, or pony!WWX throwing a chicken, or me eating grass. i can even make shitty memes! and all of it, no matter how good or how bad, is fun again.

you bring a lot of fun to people here. that's something equally as important as people who cultivate fancy line work or expert level digital painting. i'm sure that's something you know, but i hope it never hurts to hear it.

happy first season, friend! i can't wait to see the rest.

As a chronic perfectionist, it's been a long journey for me to accept that 'done is better than nothing' and that the worst critical voice is my own. Sure there's people who've gone to professional art schools, and those with a more than a decade of experience on me, but honestly? Would I tell a child their sonic drawing isn't art? Just because they have no 'experience' or 'technique'? Absolutely not. So I'm no longer saying my efforts should not count as art.

At the end of the day, art is what we choose to make it. We have the power to create whatever we want. And we are going to use it to have fun! We never lost the love and fun for creation we all had as children, we just told ourselves it wasn't enough. But it really is B*)

Hello everyone! I would like you to meet the little guy I have been working on for the past week :)

His name is Mareczek, Blade of Olimar (A.K.A Marek), and as you can see, he is a Yellow Pikmin.

He is pale because I created him in a fit of creative malaise and hellsite-related frustration, and was too impatient to wait before I could get the right shade of yellow yarn. I ran out, and that's why he has this sick graft-arm instead.

I like to think he lost it valiantly in battle, narrowly escaping the jaws of death. "Rendered Unto Mars" indeed 💖

More details beneath the cut~

I did the flower by hacking a coaster-tutorial the very talented Mhalee's Crochet put up on Youtube, doing a row of triple-crochets over each of the petals-- It was so, so very janky. I filled the in the gaps by the edge in tying up the ends; the sewing is what gives it its shape and I'm honestly surprised it looks this good.

I made the floret-disc separately. Also! If you look closely in the main pictures, you'll spot the calyx :) I made using the Summer Flox flower by Pora Pora Crochet on Youtube. She has so many lovely tutorials, it's insane.

Little test flower, with my lovely cat for reference. Ended up being wayyy too small for Marek himself(thus the coaster-hacking), but it's be perfect for smaller Pikmin.

Also, as one final note:

I have this to thank for spurring me into action. Marek did end up needing a wash at one point(alas, it is why he is so baggy), so this meme has well and truly been fulfilled.

I hope you're happy, 4chan Anon. Marek has you to thank for his existence.

honestly i'm a whole entire jar of evolutionary disadvantages like, my sense of disgust and grief is super fucking developed, but also in weird directions that i'm not smart enough to handle. I feel an acute sense of grief for ideas and concepts; when a narrative or a story fails me or falls short of its potential, i actually have to carve out a portion of my time to grieve it and make peace with the death of the idea. I legit have to set time aside to cry about loss of potential in everything— i mean what bullshit is that!! Which gene hardwired this sentimentalism in me, raise your hand, i want to shoot you five times and stump on your structure just to make sure

But also it's a kind of grief that i can't talk to people about unless they're the same brand of insane as me. "oh hey sorry can't fucking talk right now, i'm busy tearing my heart to shreds so maybe this story's cowardice in exploring all its nuances and intricacies hurts me less"

And then there's the grief with friendships. With human connections and with art and with writing and with my Caesar salad sauce pouring slightly more left than i intended to. This is ridiculous, there's always a chance lost around the corner that i need to be sad about!! Who lives like this?? I dont want to!

#the only reasons i dont take 59 antidepressants to get rid of the grief is that #1) it gives me something to fight against and i love fighting against things #2) i have the brilliant misconception that suffering makes me holy and 3) where there's deep grief there's immense joy #and i pride myself on loving things very very deeply. can't lose that now it's 95% of my personality :/
