[ cw: sacrifice / self sacrifice / slight suicidal themes / death mention / ]
I personally think that Leo took the wrong lessons from the movie. I definitely think he grew to understand the importance of teamwork and making sure he takes others into account so as to not harm them by proxy of whatever scheme he has cooked up, however based on the ending events I’m not quite certain he fully grasped two things.
The first thing is communication. Oh, he can communicate, and he does, when he deems it necessary. When he’s setting up a plan prior to the action. But this is where the second thing comes in.
The second thing I don’t think Leo truly grasped is “it’s not about you.” It’s so unbearably easy to take that the wrong way, especially when taking the rest of the series into account.
What I believe Leo took from this message is not “it’s not just you, everyone matters and can contribute, can help and be helped” but “put the whole of everyone above yourself” which can both be a good lesson…and a fatal one.
And it is fatal, we see as much in the movie.
Even after the big hope speech, when Leo is “fighting” Krang!Raph, he takes a huge risk. Sure, it worked, and Leo managed to get through to Raph through a well deserved apology, but it could have so easily ended in his death and yet he barely even hesitates to go for it.
And then again, to the big scene at the end, where Leo sacrifices himself not only for the sake of his family, but for the whole world.
To him, that’s the message to take from this. That the lives of everyone, of the greater good, matters…more than him. That the risk to himself is worth it if others can be saved.
Leo learned that gambling with his life as the betting chip is always the best move to make in the end.
And to make matters worse…this thinking is what works.
These risks are ultimately what is needed to save the day, so why would Leo look away from it now? Clearly it’s the right move and everything worked out!
Thing is, Leo did grow from the events of the movie. He learned to take things more seriously and be more mature, he learned to value his team’s input and capabilities enough to rely on them more, and he learned to be less self-centered and realize the turmoil others were going through (especially if that turmoil is a result of his actions.)
But still, he’s grown to accept the gamble of his life as a viable answer to their problems.
Personally, with how Leo has been shown to toy around with the idea of “it’s better me than them” I think this goes beyond sacrifice in the name of love or even sacrifice in the name of responsibility, and pushes over into sacrifice in the name of worth.

[ID: A digital drawing of Redd, a fat, white trans man, in fishing gear. He has shaggy blonde hair, a patchy beard, body hair, freckles and acne, and is wearing a gray t-shirt that reads "women want me fish fear me" in all caps red text, a red flannel shirt, a brown fishing vest, gray jeans with a brown belt, brown boots, and a red and gray hat. He is carrying a red tackle box in one hand and a net and fishing pole in the other arm. He is walking with his arms lifted, smiling in excitement. end ID]

listen i get where people are coming from when they say that nobody should have expected a radical overhaul of the shinobi system considering the series very squarely set up its main theme as not abandoning friends. that certainly was the setup. but i also think it would be inaccurate to say that the story as it evolved affirmed that refusing to abandon one's friends was the be-all and end-all fix for everything. i cannot emphasize this enough: it's not as though the prior generations we saw lacked devotion to their teammates. the problem was that the larger sociopolitical circumstances obstructed their ability to connect in one way or another. even naruto acknowledges at the land of iron that his and sasuke's positions made it impossible for them to reconcile. so for the series to do a 180 and assert that actually friendship was the solution all along (even though there have been no meaningful systemic changes, even though the source of these intergenerational conflicts has not been addressed) rings hollow. it's especially glaring that being violently beaten in a fight makes sasuke desert his quest for justice without any reservation -- therefore no ideological or political separation was bridged, sasuke was just made to forget what motivated him for the entire series' run. naruto and team 7 succeeding where their predecessors failed was not a function of anything they did differently, but mere narrative convenience.

Send me songs
So I wanna do this OC meme for as many of the WN cast as I can get around to:
But I'm having trouble with the song part for almost all my characters for some reason! So if you can think of any songs that describe any of the main White Noise cast, toss 'em in my inbox?
So far I have Small Million - Lightswitch for Yoshi and tentatively The Oh Hellos - I Have Made Mistakes for Numair but gimme your suggestions!

this might sound mean but. get better at reading. i know literacy education sucks. i understand. it's time to take it upon yourself. get better at reading. if you can't read well you're easy to manipulate first of all, but also on a more interpersonal level if you can't read well and you're doing a significant portion of your socializing through text you're making yourself miserable. it's a skill. seek out resources to help you improve. get better at reading.

You mean you gotta call and tell them to WATCH out for an email?
more like i call them, and it will be something that requires some thinking time, so they ask if i can send them an email with more info that they can reply to later. like it makes sense that for many things it helps to have face-to-face contact and barring that, a phone call, to have Established Human Contact. like i get it but it's a hassle
EDIT: OH. IT WAS A PUN. A JOKE. THAT FLEW COMPLETELY OVER MY HEAD. HUMILIATING

I'm so confused. What the hell is currently going on in the fandom with Matt, Louise and everyone else? I just don't get it
basically louise posted a screenshot of her ig comment section full of comments hating on her, bringing up her controversies as well as taylor and alexa's relationship with alex, saying she stole him from taylor and he was better off with alexa. she defended herself telling those people to get a life, that they don't know her or alex or any of the people involved, and that she's a human being who has all the right to be in love with him (dare i say, that part was kinda slay). then amanda and matt also jumped on the whole thing and stood up for her. louise said all the hate is exactly why no one in their group wants to post anything, while matt threatened to log off again. you know. usual stuff
the thing is. people really need to stop going to her comment section lmao like of course you're allowed to dislike her and you can speculate all you want about their relationship but. for the love of god. keep it to fandom spaces where the people involved will not see it??? not on her actual comment section??? come on. it's not that hard to understand

came onto tumblr to find artists celebrating the news by posting full frontal nudity that fully shows up on iOS with absolutely no filter options and presumably will continue to until every iOS user manually updates their app, if the filters work on iOS at all, bc tumblr must always roll out every update in the least functional and most actively counterintuitive way possible. this is not a complaint. ride on you funky little hellsite i love you so much
