"none of my alters have fronted recently, does that mean i'm faking?"
hey. you're an alter too, remember? you are as much a part in this team as any other part. you're important. just because other alters haven't fronted recently doesn't automatically mean you were wrong, or "faking". parts get front stuck; it happens! switching slows down; it happens! the rest of the system quiets down for a while; it happens! especially if you are newly-discovered.
be patient. be kind to yourself. you are the only alter that needs to front right now in order to be "valid". you know what you've experienced, you know you aren't trying to fake this, so know that fronting alone for a while will not take these experiences away from you.
good luck & take care. 🤍

[Start ID. A digital drawing of Minos Prime from Ultrakill, who's wearing a strapless slit dress and sandals of the same deep purple. He faces towards and slightly to the right of the camera, his head is tilted further right. With one hand he gestures in a vague pointing motion, his arm folded and held close to his body. There is nothing in the background, but bracing himself on one arm, Minos is implied to be leaning against something about the height of a countertop. The background is a blank purplish black, save for three diagonal stripes in the colors of the bisexual flag. End ID]
Shading study that quite literally came to me in a dream two weeks ago, after this post apparently beamed itself into my mind
(also a few edits below the cut! they're very slight but whatever :])
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Start ID. Three different versions of the previous drawing. The first changes the tone of the lighting from blue to pink, and similarly the shading from pink to blue. The second replaces the faint black border with pink, purple and blue, syncing with the stripes in the background. The third combines both these changes. End ID]
#the tags got NERFED so let's try this again.#peridots-art#minos prime ultrakill#ultrakill#ask to tag#organs#...? gore maybe? for the whole ''transparent chest/visible cardiovascular system'' thing. not very detailed/realistic though so#i don't think this has all of the same charm as i usually find in my posts. but i tried my best to make it work so i don't think it matters#also ''not too happy with how this turned out'' is something i've seen tacked onto posts worthy of being preserved in museums#i heard someone say his snakes should be ball pythons. i'm not autistic about snakes so i decided to listen to the masters#i still have seven levels to p-rank before i can meet this guy!! halfway there (lust/greed and 1-3 remaining) i've only had my own copy#of ultrakill for a week and i already have 33 hours in. anyway he's grown on me i think. absolute bi king and only monarch i respect <3#i think it's interesting how i now define my queerness by being gray-ace and trans when i first only identified with bisexual. it's still#an important part of me even if sometimes i forget. sorry that sounds completely unrelated but it's related to my feelings on this piece#anyway (i wonder how many ''anyway''s i've slapped on so far) i also find it interesting how often people draw him with this body type.#i think it's cool there's variety in how people draw the uk characters. it just kinda feels right here? i know i unfortunately don't draw#fat characters often at all (partially due to being a primarily fandom blog who likes to stick to canon designs. i wouldn't say i have#trouble with drawing a realistic amount of fat even on rather thin people though lol) but i try! also genuinely unsure what counts as like.#fat vs chubby? or whatever? i don't know exactly how the terminology works and a fair amount of minos' bulk is muscle anyway but. yeah 👍#men are pretty in dresses my final message. goodbye

Not to keep repeating what’s already been said, but: I think a lot of the dismissal of AFO’s "chops" as a villain tends to come from fans who simply don’t want to acknowledge that Tomura is his victim-- Or rather, appreciation of AFO as a villain seems directly proportional to how willing a person is to explore Tomura’s victimhood.
Like… pretty much everything about AFO’s treatment of Tomura is utterly skin crawling when you give it more than a passing glance and start to delve into the effects it has had (and still has!) on Tomura's beliefs and behavior. imho AFO is a villain who just gets worse and worse every time you reread the series, because with each reread you end up noticing ways he’s violated Tomura that might not have been immediately apparent during the first read through. He's a villain that inspires a sense of intense revulsion that sets him apart from the other villains in the series-- because the ultimate trap he laid for Tomura didn't actually hinge on Tomura "hating everything," it hinged on Tomura genuinely loving and trusting him and not even remotely anticipating that AFO would ever violate that trust. He sprung a trap that took advantage of Tomura's capacity for love, because AFO knew that Tomura would continue to walk towards him and view him as a comforting figure no matter how fuckin' ominous things looked:
Tumblr media
"Come to me, now" and Tomura does, without the slightest bit of hesitation and without even questioning what he's seeing. Like. It's the way four little words can make you instantly nauseous bc of the far reaching implications they have for this dynamic.
So like. AFO is a “bad” villain in their eyes because acknowledging his worst acts of evil means you’ve gotta acknowledge exactly what he’s been doing to Tomura this whole time— and everything just sort of falls apart from there.

I wonder if, upon learning that Marc was the Host, "the original" in Steven's words, if Steven ever worried afterwards that he was being invasive.
All those things Konshu called him. Worm, parasite, idiot--were they all true now? Was he truly a parasite? A demon of some sort, occasionally possessing a victim of abuse? Leeching off of someone else's life?
Maybe for a while he stopped fronting. He'd stolen so much of Marc's life already, the least he could do was let Marc make it up as best he could. When he was in their inner world he would stay within his own area, never venturing out for fear of disturbing the place Marc's mind had made for him to feel safe.
And even after doing more research on DID and learning that he wasn't a demon, that he as an alter was just as valid a person as the host was, part of him just couldn't shake the feeling that he was a nuisance. A pest. An invasive species in the habitat that was Marc's mind and body.
It probably took a while for Marc to pick up on. Maybe even months. He can normally read people's emotions well, that's what happens when you're raised in an abusive home after all, but that’s all based on body language and expression, which is a bit harder to read when it's someone in your own body. But eventually he does sense it, he can feel the anxiety Steven feels when he needs to front, feels the relief when Marc comes back. And then he sees Steven out and about in their inner world and suddenly realizes he hasn't seen Steven outside his specific space in a long time. Not to mention the apologetic look he had on his face when Marc saw him, as if he'd been caught doing something he shouldn't have.
The final straw was when Steven ended up fronting for three days straight, and when Marc came back, the flat looked completely different than he left it. All Steven's books had been put away, tucked into shelves or stacked under the bed. Steven's clothes had been taken out of the closet and dresser as well, replaced by cardboard boxes at the top of the closet labeled with Steven's messy scrawl. His pyramid paperweight, the postcards from Gus's tank, and his rubiks cube were tossed haphazardly in to a wire wastebasket, right next to their unusually clean desk. All of Steven's favorite snacks had been cleared out of the fridge and cupboards, and Marc wondered if he'd eaten them or if he felt too guilty to allow himself even that.
The only trace of Steven left in the flat was the pair of fish in the now postcard-less fishtank. He wondered if Steven was worried he'd let them die, seeing as how they were just another reminder of his presence.
And that's when Marc knew exactly what was going on. After all, it hadn't been too long since he was the one hiding his possessions around the flat, trying to make his presence as invisible as possible.
He took Steven's things out of the trash. He unpacked Steven's clothes and carefully put them back where they belonged. He took Steven's books out from under the bed and stacked his favorites on the nightstand for him to read. And Marc went out and bought all of Steven's favorite snacks again, even the ones he hated himself. He put on the soft pajamas Steven always liked to wear, even though they made him feel too hot.
There was a rather emotional talk that night.
It probably took a while for Steven to feel comfortable in his own body again. To stop feeling like he was taking up someone else's life, to feel like he was just as much of a person as Marc was. Sometimes he still felt so guilty that he would hide his possessions again, or he'd write notes to Marc saying that it was okay if he never wanted to let Steven front again, and that Steven wouldn't bother him anymore and he could just disappear.
But eventually with time, and therapy, Steven realized that he wasn't taking up Marc's life, not any more than Marc took up Steven's. They were living life together, and that was wonderful. And when Marc returned after letting Steven front for a week to find that he'd bought five more books and was eating the wasabi nuts Marc hated so much, he knew Steven would be alright.

I have very mixed feelings about The Fall of The House of Usher. As much as I loved Carla Gugino’s performance, I think connecting everything to Verna and The Deal lessened the impact of all other storylines. Edgar Allen Poe follows similar themes, but his works are short and distinct. The Black Cat, Murder in The Rue Morgue, and The Raven; all involve death, but have different approaches to the subject and a different end effect on the audience. Idk it worked well to make the show cohesive but I feel as though it might have been better to keep it as an anthology.

Part 2 of The Gotham Puddle Boy: Danny Fenton
Danny wasn't too concerned about getting in a car with a stranger in what may well be the crime capital of the world.
If he got weirdo - or Dash-like - vibes he could just slip out of sight and vanish into the wind. Being half ghost made a lot of human dangers less so.
Plus, perks of being a Fenton: riding in the car with a stranger wouldn't make him nervous about their driving. No one in the world was worse at it than his dad.
So a few minutes of trading jokes and a promise of video games was all it really took to get Danny to say "sure" to going back to Tim's house.
The car was nice, at least, and they bantered over music even as they left city limits, which Danny chose to ignore for the time being.
Around 10 minutes later they turned to approach the gates of a veritable mansion that unfortunately brought forth the memory of his first time approaching Vlad's house.
He was silent as Tim buzzed them in, and as they crawled slowly up the driveway he took the opportunity to ask.
"You live here?”
“Yep! Bruce Wayne is my adoptive father. Welcome to Wayne Manor!"
Not long after the building’s front door was opening before they could touch the handle, with an older man in a suit greeting them. "Master Tim, welcome home. I see you've brought a guest."
A hand clapped down on his shoulder as he was introduced, "Danny this is Alfred, Alfred this is Danny. We'll be in my room playing Damned."
"It is a pleasure to meet a friend of Tim, Mister Danny."
"Ah, you too. And just Danny is fine, Mister Alfred."
Alfred smiled and secured a promise that they'd be down to at least stretch their legs and eat something after an hour had passed before Tim was ushering them through the building to his room.
Sam was a good person, but also openly hated rich people despite technically being one. Her parents, however, were a nightmare hidden behind a thin facade of civility when in public. Vlad was also a nightmare. Axion labs had been run by some tycoon and they killed their innocent dogs. Lex Luthor openly hated Superman - which would be totally understandable if it were because he never so much as glanced at Amity Park’s issues instead of because of his incredibly Xenophobic stance on any and all non-humans. All told, Danny didn’t have a good track record with -illionaires - not the adults, at least.
'...Okay, maybe I should just avoid Bruce,' he thought, settling on the floor at the foot of the bed in the enormous room they'd entered to face the gloriously massive TV while Tim booted it up.
An hour later, Alfred was knocking on the door to herd them to the dining room where he'd prepared "refreshments." It was nice to enjoy homemade food that didn't fight back for once - he hadn't eaten at Sam or Tucker's house in a while and takeout wasn't quite the same. Even if they were unfortunately healthy snacks - the strange slices he'd learned were apricot were surprisingly good.
Alfred had them stretch their legs again two hours later - this time snackless - and Tim decided to give him a tour. The house was immaculate and the kitchen would have made the Lunch Lady greener than normal with envy.
It was also empty.
"Don't you have a bunch of siblings?" he asked on the way back to the room.
"Yeah, but they're all out doing their own things until lunch." He stopped just after closing the door behind him to grin at him. "Speaking of which. Can you stay for lunch?"
Danny blinked at the sudden manic energy starkly contrasting with the incredibly normal question.
"Uh, I don't have to be back at the hotel until like 5, so, sure?"
"How do you feel about playing a little prank?"
Danny grinned, "What did you have in mind?"
---------------------------------
POV Jason
Jason’s patience was running incredibly thin. He had been looking at tubes of water for hours while Bruce kept asking variations of the same question. His only consolation was that Duke took up half of the attention or he might have punched him by now.
The only reason he even showed up was that he’d been told there was potential Lazarus water in Gotham - or something similar. But after hours upon hours of tests by the computer and him and Duke staring at it he was certain; that was water. Bruce had lost it.
Just as he braced himself to try and knock some sense into Bruce, Alfred came to fetch them to lunch.
‘Finally,’ he thought, power-walking to the exit.
“I’ll be up in a minute, I want to set up one more scan to run while we’re eating,” Bruce threw after them.
“It had better only be a minute.” He paused to glower ominously over his shoulder, simmering with rage at all of the wasted time - and using that to smother the concern trying to bubble up.
“Finally,” Duke said once they were out of the batcave. “I thought we were going to be in there forever!”
Jason ignored him as he fished out his phone.
“Oh hey, group text from Tim; he has a guest that fits the family theme so he’s going to try and prank Bruce to see if he’s actually ‘lost the plot.’”
Jason grimaced, “Great, so instead of a productive lunch we’ll be playing house plus ‘guest that definitely isn’t the former Jason Todd, just a very similarly looking friend of the family’ for an hour.” He ran a hand down his face, sighing in frustration. “Count me ou-”
He froze in place, every muscle flinching to a stop.
“Uh, Jason?”
“Quiet.” He hissed, eyes darting to the stairs as voices began to drift their way.
Every hair stood on end as he stood there, something in his blood echoing dissonant signals of danger-run-hide-flee-don’t move-stay still-stop-stop-stop even as his conscious mind demanded he confront the problem head-on. But he couldn’t move - frozen as surely as if he’d been hit by one of Freeze’s ice rays.
As the stranger came into view his mind gave up on the danger signals, finally settling on don’t move don’t move don’t move even as near-unbearable levels of anxiety bubbled up in his gut. He barely registered Tim standing next to the guy as his head turned to stare him down, Jason’s eyes widening and shoulders hunching now that this… person’s full attention was on him.
The person hesitated a moment at the top of the stairs before smiling.
“Hi! I’m Danny, you must be Tim’s brothers?” he chirped, voice friendly enough that the anxiety uncurled just a bit. Just enough for Jason to register Tim staring at him oddly and Duke looking between the two of them.
Tim descended the stairs, done waiting for “Danny” to take the initiative, perhaps, while Duke took his silence as a cue to give the guy his cover story.
“Just me, actually,” he said. “The name’s Duke. J here is a friend of the family.”
“Oh, uh, nice to meet you both anyway. Sorry for crashing you guys’ lunch,” he rubbed a hand over the back of his neck sheepishly before following Tim down to their level, still smiling calmly. “My parents are in town for some engineering convention and Tim kind of rescued me from dying of boredom.”
Abruptly, Jason found himself completely calm - relaxed, even. Suspiciously so; all of the rage and frustration he’d felt ever since emerging from the Lazarus Pit was suddenly swapped out for a level of relaxation he could nearly call “Zen.”
He would nearly suspect a meta had broken Bruce’s rules, but he was the only one to react. Tim and Duke were clearly unaffected and the guy was either one hell of an actor or had genuinely only noticed him when he saw him.
Meaning this was potentially Lazarus related - and even that thought could not cut through the sheer tranquility he was feeling to cause panic. His thoughts, at least, were unaffected.
Also, he kind of just wanted to enjoy not being angry for the first time in ages. Sue him.
So he plastered on a Wayne-family PR smile and ended the second awkward silence of the day.
“Don’t worry about it; any friend of Tim’s is a friend of ours, at any rate. We have maybe two more minutes before Alfred actually manages to wrangle Bruce out of his study, why don’t you fill me in on this prank.”

Know Thyselves (Part 2 of 2)
Continued from my previous post, this is a list of parts of self and spirit relations that a person may need to discern while sorting through the different types of voices and interactions one can experience.
Other external sources that can be internalized
Tumblr media
Introjects - External people or ways of thinking that have been internalized, often in a personified form. Can be someone the person knows (e.g., parent, abuser) or someone the person knows of (e.g., famous figure). Can be internalized as an alter's personality in some cases (e.g., persecutor alter that has traits of an abuser).
Fictives - Introjects based on fictional sources, such as a character from a movie or book. Can be internalized as an alter's personality in some cases.
Programming - Executable steps, behaviors, thoughts, or actions that are intentionally placed as a program in a person to control them and that can be triggered to run. May be formed in a sequence, or layered with other programs. Can be triggered by certain conditions or actions, by an alter if particular criteria are met, or external stimuli like auditory tones, code words/phrases, or particular types of touch. Often placed by abusers whether as part of an organized cult or not. May be placed by baneful magick to run as part of a hex, or can be programmed by nonhuman beings or spirits. Can take visual or other energetic forms, such as a mass, entity, or implant.
Conditioning - Similar to programming, but introduced through repeated behavior or exposure to form neural pathways and reactions. Can create acceptance, tolerance, and even desire for a state of emotion/being or way of thinking. Can work in complementary ways with programming. Not always done in as intentional and specific a manner as implanted programming. For example, may involve being conditioned to seek out and tolerate abusive behaviors or relationships due to the environment in which a person grew up, but without abusers specifically and intentionally programming the person to do that. On the other hand, can be done with a degree of intention as part of an array of abuse methods, such as lovebombing, gaslighting, or grooming.
External spirit relations
Tumblr media
Ancestral spirits - Ancestors can come from this or past lifetimes. Blood or spiritual connections facilitate greater access to communicate and interact with a person. May have useful information or aid with magickal or energetic workings. Depending on the spirit's perspectives and spiritual development, may or may not align with a person's current best interests.
Tulpas - Existing spirits or manifested forms that have been invited to be in some sort of relationship to the person (e.g., friend, romantic partner). May take on or match characteristics projected by the person as desired. May or may not be beneficial.
Intrusive thoughts/voices - Uninvited and often unwelcome thoughts or voices. Distinct from internalized ways of thinking or personal thoughts. May mask as a person's inner thoughts, pose as another known and trusted spirit, seem to come from an external object like a mirror, or be obviously foreign. Can include insults, threats, encouraging self-harm or violence, uncharacteristic racist or sexist thoughts. Can include dictating instructions or overwhelming influence to behave in certain manners (e.g., impulsive sexual acts). May come from harassing or malevolent spirits, or from beings that manipulate the simulated world and have greater access to intrude on people's thoughts. Caution may be required to distinguish these from auditory hallucinations or mental health conditions.
Guiding or channeled thoughts/voices - Communications that may or may not be intentionally channeled from guides or that may take place with other spirits with whom a person intentionally undertakes to communicate. Can take various forms—more formal or casual, depending on a spirit's and the person's preferences and relationship. May take place with spirit guides before or after an overt invitation to work together. Connection can be deepened and strengthened through initiatory work. Often recommended to be done with protection and boundaries in place to ensure the interchange is in line with a person's highest will and good.
Other spirit communications - Communications that may be overheard or be more incidental in nature, such as encounters with ghosts or spirits passing through.
Spirit connections - Connections from current or past lifetimes with spirits that can facilitate access to and influence over a person. May result in the spirit being able to easier locate a person, connect with them in the current lifetime, take from or exchange energy with the person, or have synchronistic interactions with them (e.g., be someone in the person's life if incarnated). May or may not be beneficial. Includes spirit guides, ancestral spirits, others with whom a person has had working or other relationships. Can also include bound spirits that have not been internalized, spirits with whom a person has made deals, spirits that believe the person owes them a debt, spirits who want to use the person for a particular purpose, or spirits with whom there was a strong emotional or sexual connection. If the spirit has harassed the person in the past, may include nonconsensual magick or entry points used to influence and access the person.
Summoned spirits - Spirits whose presence has been called through summoning techniques to exert control over the spirit, sometimes in a slave/master relationship. Often done to invoke a spirit to empower a ritual without freely consensual collaboration. May involve making a deal or committing to some payment with the spirit. Caution or avoidance is recommended, especially with spirits that use this type of interaction to form connections that may be manipulated or to exploit loopholes in the agreement/exchange.
Dream or spirit sex - Direct sexual interactions with spirits in dream states or waking life. May be used to facilitate a boundaried, mutually consensual energy exchange with a trusted spirit or energy (e.g., the Source) for some purpose that is in the person's best interest—and only if the spirit consents to operate in that way and can do so in a balanced manner. Often can be used by individual spirits for energy feeding, forming unhealthy connections, or implanting programming. In waking life, can be experienced through unseen stimuli or take place via masturbation or a sexual encounter with another person. Sometimes these interactions can feel violating if they are not in a person's best interests. However, in either dream or waking states, malevolent spirits often pose as benevolent or ambiguous figures to take advantage of this type of interaction. Sexual practices can be energetically potent, which means a spirit intending harm can draw a lot of energy this way and have larger effects on a person. Caution is advised.
Energetic downloads - Packets of information that may be transferred to a person by spirit guides or other helping spirits without direct communication. May cause the recipient to feel sleepy, enter trance, or need to meditate to better receive the transmission. Often requires some work afterwards to process and integrate the information, such as creating a painting or a piece of writing that seems to flow from this new information source.
Other external relations
Tumblr media
Energy exchange and/or feeding - Can happen with humans, other living beings, or spirits, consensually or not. Can take the form of different types of energy. Often consensually done for magick rituals to empower the carrying out of the desired result. May be done in boundaried manners with trusted spirits or energies for revitalization or mutual empowerment. Can happen nonconsensually in "vampiric" or intrusive interactions with humans or nonhuman beings. Can also happen through giving away one's energy without replenishing or holding boundaries. May occur—intentionally or not—in low levels through giving energy or attention to something like a piece of art, daydreaming about a celebrity, or liking a social media post. If done in a way that is not balanced, can result in symptoms of low energy, feeling drained, or energy sickness.
Remote viewing - Can be used by humans to mentally surveil a person and retrieve information about them and what they are doing. Depending on the practitioner, person's protections, and other conditions, may vary in clarity and intensity. May cause the person being viewed to sense or see the remote viewer and their intrusion, especially if the person is sensitive and it was not consented to.
Astral projection, dream walking - Can be used by humans to project a part of their spirit into other spaces, including into a person's vicinity or space. Can include intruding into a person's dream space, especially if the person if not using protection, invites them in intentionally or inadvertently, has an existing connection with the projector, or exits their own dream space and meets outside of it. May happen with or without consent. May be used to gather information, affect a person's surroundings, or have interactions with the person. When this involves energy exchange/feeding or sexual relations, astral presence will make the connection stronger than it otherwise might be. Hexes, evil eye, love spells, psychic attack - Done intentionally or unintentionally with harmful or controlling effects to a person by another human or spirit. In some cases, such as hexes, may involve ritual workings. Others, such as evil eye or psychic attack, may involve sending strong emotions/intentions and energy. These can result in using/creating connections, hearing or seeing the attacker when they send the intention, or similar experiences.
Distance healing/energy work - Best done with consent or structured in a way that is not intrusive. May involve receiving energy for healing or other purposes from an energy healer and forming a (usually temporary) connection. For example, when the energy is being sent, a person may think of the healer, if they are familiar with each other, or something related to the healer.

re: your tags on a recent answer sayingabout reading stellarlune that stellarlune is only your second hated bc legacy is worse
i haven't read legacy in a hot minute so *chinhands* wanna tell me more?
i don't remember anything important from it except the whole Alvar thing (which, honestly, you're telling me the Neverseen had a method to completely wipe a guy's brain only to perfectly restore it with a certain trigger, and nobody talked about it again??) And I somewhat remember the trolls? great-aunt Luzia Vacker put a troll farm on her property for some reason i don't remember, then for some reason moved away from it and left it on the property out of her control? Wack
oh and i do remember being wildly annoyed by the ending, where sophie spends like twelve books up to this point vocally refuting the matchmaking system and not wanting to do it, but then she turns around and does it after all?? (and okay, i can admit that she probably did it bc she really loves fitz and like, if he'll only accept her if the matchmakers allowed it, then perhaps through the power of love it'll work out for her? but it doesn't, so she and fitz have to make hard decisions about their lives.) So yeah actually give me your matchmaking/legacy ending thoughts too!
I'd love to! However, you did just describe the plot of Flashback, not Legacy, so I'll try to cover both of them briefly
Flashback I'm mostly neutral on--I do enjoy the sophitz before Shannon started their forced crash (in Legacy, part of the reason I dislike it), and exploring Tam's potential with shadowflux is lovely since I love him. Few clarifications: Luzia made a secret alliance with the trolls to hide their hive, since it's their biggest vulnerability; she moved away because she needed more space. Apparently during that time, Luzia helped with experiments on them--but the hive left there was closed on their side, so Luzia wasn't part of the most recent batch; my guess is she thought it was inactive and abandoned, otherwise she wouldn't let the new Vackers live there
But yes, I was incredibly underwhelmed by its ending. Coming out of books where the cliffhanger is her entire family's been kidnapped, Alvar's lost his memories, her being ineligible for a pairing system I don't care about as the final reveal is like...ok. and? but, I do acknowledge this is entirely biased by my aromanticism and relationship anarchy. I simply don't give a shit. sophie, however, does. so I understand why from her pov that's a massive bombshell, and very stressful. i'm just not the audience for that reveal
unfortunately for me, that ending sets up a major part of the next book, which is why Legacy is my least favorite. I want to be very upfront and say my least favorite. this is my ranking based on my personal interests and enjoyment, it's absolutely fine if you (general) like Legacy. this is incredibly biased and opinionated
OKAY, so. I simply cannot get myself to care about Sophie's relationship woes, and they're not even written true to the characters! That thing I said about a forced crash? It's like as soon as they got together, Shannon decided the loss of hidden crush drama was too much, and she immediately sabotaged them to make up for it. This post gives a good example, adding a fake time crunch to make it seem more important and blaming Fitz. And the thing about Fitz being like "you wouldn't want to not find your parents, right?" when one of the first trust exercises they did together she told him directly she didn't want to because she thought she'd hate them. And they didn't brush past it! They talked about it a little! But of course now he's conveniently forgotten
If it was compelling, I could accept their demise. But it's not! It feels like drama for drama's sake, and it's just frustrating to read. With the seven books we spent building up to them, imploding everything about them in one book without any pay off is like...why. Just why. and it comprises SO MUCH of the story! Sophie's always thinking about it, prioritizing it, worrying about it, and I! am not here for that. Which is entirely a personal preference thing. i've been in a qpr for years, relationship anarchy is my normal, and it's just so...exhausting? reading her thoughts about how her life is going to be ruined and everyone's going to hate her. first of all, that's clearly an overreaction and I'm not believing this tension for a second. second, boo fucking hoo. you're atypical. join the club and stop moaning about how it sucks to be us. she's on a learning/acceptance curve, I know, but that doesn't make it fun to hear that kind of rhetoric--especially since I'm fairly certain Shannon wrote this without that in mind at all
I am aware I'm being mean to Sophie. I can logically understand all her beliefs and actions, and I know they're suited to her, her background, her values, and where she is in life right now. on a technical level, I get it. that doesn't mean emotionally I enjoy it, even if there's a reason to it all. it's simply a part of the story I, as an aromantic person, dislike. and that is my experience and opinion, I am in no way speaking for others.
so to summarize: I hate how the characters were handles and how sophie thinks of matchmaking in Legacy, and those things were a significant portion of the book, so I don't like it in general. personally. my very biased and emotionally driven opinion :)

Also I've been discouraged about posting on Twitter lately because I feel like I am unwittingly providing material for someone to weaponise as an irritant for no apparent reason lately...
Sometimes I try not to care and sometimes I just forget that it happens and the rest of the time I'm like hmm... Think I'll just... be quieter...
But then also like, please do not think I'm dead if I don't post on Twitter I fucking hate that website.
