I found out that there was an arabic dub for Lego monkie Kid, and being an Arab (who has a pretty weak arabic), I thought it would be killing 2 birds in one stone. However, I noticed how I noticed they used the English names for the characters, not only that it missed so many opportunities with arabic names.

The reason I am upset with the English names being used is that the Chinese names are way easier to spell and sound in arabic, like جاوتان (xiaotian) looks way better than ام.كي (mk) imo and شاوجاو sounds way better than ماي. Though, this is just all opinion (except for pigsy, there is no P in arabic, so you just get 'big z', which is kinda funny). Also, for some reason, they use the English version for Monkey King, Redson, PIF, etc. Instead of just fully translating the name like ملك القردة (monkey king, malik al kurd), الابن الاحمر or الصبي الأحمر (red son, al ibn al ah-mar or sabi al ah-mar), and الأميرة مروحة الحديد (Princess iron fan, al amera marwa-ha al had-ed).

(Side note: i cannot find episode 9 in arabic, but i found out on the wiki for some reason, Macaque's name changed to 'مكاكو' (Makako) when it can be easily translated as 'ماكاك' (edit: apperantly he is called 'ماكاكو الغامض' (the mysterious macaque) which i found cool))

If I were writing the names, I would give them all the Chinese names since it suits way better, with the exception of the ones that are literally translated (i.e., Redson, princess iron fan, Monkey King, Azure, ect.) Who will just have their name literally translated to arabic.

Also I would play around with the nicknames because.

Like for example Tang would call Xiaotian 'ابن زو' (son of zhu) because Tang is definitely the type of character to tease Dachu Zhu over this, but also it makes the "pigsy's my dad" scene 10x funnier.

Speaking of Tang (and Dali) I would have Xiaotian and XiaoJiao straight up call them 'عم تانغ/دالي' (uncle Tang/Dali) since they are middle aged, also it can be seen as double meaning in Xiaotian's case since it shows he sees Dachu Zhu as a father figure, again makes the "Pigsy's my dad" even more funny , also considering how we use uncle a lot (sometimes old men who are strangers get called uncle) it makes the whole Uncle Lion scene make more sense in an arab context, though I feel like it would take away the impact and comedy of Xiaotian suddenly calling him uncle.

I would also would have Demon Bull king be called 'ابو الابن الاحمر' (father of Redson) by Wukong while Princess Iron Fan calls him 'حبيبي' (my love). Actually, I feel like both them would straight up call each other 'حبيبي'/'حبيبتي' (they both mean my love, but the other one is feminine).

I can go on an even bigger rant, but I feel like I would go all day.

Well. Technically it’s Crushed at 16,358, but Shelby wrote nearly half of that lol. My actual longest work entirely written by me is Sanctum Rosarium at 11,560, but that’s soon gonna get overtaken by In My Father’s Words I think.

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

The skull. I love unleashing his horrible bastard energy, it makes every scene 10x better imo. (It’s a beautiful day at Portland Row and you are a horrible skull).

Second place goes to Altwood, who is technically just Lockwood, but I feel like I’ve warped him so far out of shape that he’s practically an OC lol.

Honourable mention for our special lil guy, Ollie. Long may he reign.

My best friend and I have played a bunch of ME3! I don't usually do this much media all at once, so I'm a little drained from all the Effecting Mass, but it's pretty cool so far.

The opening scene was incredible! RIP, Vancouver :(

I definitely was on team "Anderson should be on the Council, fuck Udina" way back when, but it makes sense that Anderson would hate it and he seems way happier in the resistance despite everything. And Udina isn't as obnoxious any more. I'm glad Anderson (and Hackett!) is getting his chance to shine, though.

But now we have James as the successor to Ashley and Zaeed in the Most Obnoxious Squad Member sweepstakes, and he's really bad. My bff hates Kaidan "I'm getting mixed signals from you, Shepard" Alenko more, especially because the game tries to prop him up (a Spectre? him?) where James seems at least meant to be an OTT dudebro. But James is such a mixture of grossly inappropriate (the remark about how Shepard fills out her uniform???), and inexpressibly cringe Latino stereotypes (you know the fics where Cassian Andor drops random Spanish 101 words into his sentences and largely becomes a walking stereotype to remind us that his actor is Mexican? it's like that but 10x worse) that I can't stand him.

Ashley was still The Worst, though. It's a high bar to clear. Or maybe a low bar. Anyway.

I am genuinely thrilled we get to hang out so much with Wrex, who I really like, and generally deal with the krogan in general, whom I love. We're about to try [redacted]ing the [redacted] and I really hope it goes well. And Grunt came back in a particularly spectacular way (his fight with the indoctrinated??rachni was very cool and the piano backing was perfect if deceptive. *waves krogan fan club flag*

Also, I've been deeply invested in the Protheans since ME1 and was thrilled to get more Prothean Lore (poor Liara though). At one point, I'd been like ... hmm, interesting that they were called the Prothean empire if they were that benign, so the empire being a, well, empire was fascinating. Despite everything, I like Javik(sp?) a lot.

Liara is still our one true love, and it's nice to see her becoming more herself after her rough patch in ME2 despite the Javik-shaped disappointment. Also, her design looks way better here than in the other two IMO. Her freckles!!!

My problematic fave Miranda has only briefly crossed our paths, and I hope she and her sister will be okay.

All the interactions with Thane are bittersweet in a really good way, and I'm glad his son is visiting him as he dies.

Oh, and I almost forgot one of my favorite things: we periodically drop by the Citadel for missions, but mainly to get updates on the Blasto saga. The elcor are one of my favorite species, so it's a delight.

...right, there are also Reapers, I guess. I don't really care about them except as the vehicle for the story to exist, though hopefully a vehicle that doesn't, idk, destroy all life. There are some cool mechanics, like when we're desperately searching for fuel and trying to evade the Reapers, but mostly I'm into the effects of the Reapers' existence on more interesting species and individuals. We'll see how that turns out. I know some people were really mad about the ending, but I don't know what it was/is. Mostly I'm just enjoying the ride, though.

Something among others that bothers me in this fandom is how many blame Rodrigue for anything and everything while saying that Felix is blameless in their issues. Like how when Rodrigue dies, they blame Rodrigue for never reconciling with Felix first when irs Felix who pushed away his dad for years and Felix who never wanted to reconcile. They act like Rodrigue is a dick to focus on Dimitri while dying when he literally died saving Dimitri and Felix isn't in that scene. (Part 1)

Now I'll admit, I think AG handled Felix and Rodrigue 10x better now. Because Rodrigue is playable, he has support, he interacts with Felix more often, and this Felix is more mature too. But simultaneously it does seem to be fixing the issues I had. In the alt path where Rodrigue dies, that cutscene is everything I wanted from AM: Rodrigue even focuses on both Dimitri and Felix, too, while Felix speaks to his dad before Rodrigue dies. AG does both characters very well IMO (part 2)

Oooooh yeah that one always rustles my jimmies. I did a whole post about it awhile back.

TL;DR: While yes, Rodrigue is the adult in this situation, there is still only so much he can do if Felix isn't willing to meet him in the middle. He can't force Felix to be okay with him, and trying could potentially drive the wedge between them further.

Also the argument that Dimitri "stole" Rodrigue from Felix is completely ridiculous on his face. It is 100% undeniable directly stated canon that Dimtiri hasn't even seen Rodrigue in two years when 3H's academy phase begins.

And no, even before that he didn't "steal" Rodrigue. He committed the heinous crime of... checks notes... being a literal child who was traumatized by the massacre of his friends and family and then traumatized again by being forced to witness the genocide that followed (which, despite his best efforts to stop it, he was only able to save one person).

You can argue that Rodrigue should have paid more attention to Felix after Glenn's death if you like, but you are a monster if you genuinely argue that Rodrigue should have just completely ignored this 12/13 year old he viewed as a second son after Dimitri experienced an assassination attempt, dozens of people he was close to (including his own father!) being murdered in front of him, being orphaned, and then a literal genocide... all because Felix had his feelings hurt over the Faeghus equivalent of "he's in a better place now". Is it valid for Felix to have his feelings hurt and be grieving his brother's death? Absolutely. Does it make Rodrigue a bad person to look at Dimitri and say "you know what, this kid needs me right now too"? No, it absolutely does not.

Additionally, Felix's issue with Rodrigue is never about how Rodrigue treated Dimitri after Lambert was murdered. It was entirely about what Rodrigue said to him about Glenn's death. Similarly, Felix's issues with Dimitri are never about Rodrigue. I don't even know how people twisted it so that Felix just hates Dimitri for "stealing his dad". Felix's issue with Dimitri is completely separate from Rodrigue.

And yeah, his death scene in AM has problems... but that's 100% a consequence of permadeath needing to permadeath. Can't have Felix in the scene if Felix is dead (and lol you think they have the budget to make two of these CGs and record an actual meaningful difference in the dialogue? Nah, nah, we had to put that budget into tea time).

I haven't seen the alt path of AG where Rodrigue dies for myself, but I think his relationship with Felix is handled fairly well in AG. I think it does at least demonstrate that Felix needed to grow up and mature a bit before he was in a place where he was able to understand where Rodrigue was coming from (and forgive him). Even though I don't think it was handled perfectly, it was definitely handled better.

okay, I'm going to be honest and say I didn't even know what's trending on booktok right now. I had to google.

A Court of Thornes and Roses

Bleh. I read this book, and did NOT like it. Throne of Glass was decent enough, but ACOTAR is... not good. The relationships all give me bad vibes, or are just straight up toxic, and there's more sm/ut than I'm comfortable with. Also, the ending of the second book (which was where I stopped because agian, not a fan), is almost the exact same ending that Ms. Maas used for the end of Empire of Storms (book 5 in throne of glass). It's one thing for there to be tropes, but to essentially plagiarize yourself is an interesting thing to do.

What is it with booktok and faeries?? Is there something you people find romantic about being held against your will by a supernatural creature 10x your age??? DOES NO ONE ELSE FIND THAT CREEPY??? (ALSO Faerie myths rarely end well for the humans, and they never have good intentions. Not to mention that a very common faerie myth (changelings) is very, very ableist.)

2. Red Queen

it was.... meh. Things got dragged out 10x more than they needed to, and why can't you just kill these people who are evil and be done with it?? Also, neither of the love interest options are very good people to the main character. There's so much back and forth and backstabbing that you have no idea who's on what side, which while can sometimes turn out okay, the number of times the reader's opinion about X or Y character flip flops is just rediculous. (And again, just kill the douchebag and be done with it!!)

3. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.

This one... this one is something else. While I love the concept, in theory, I was NOT a fan of the execution. It's not nearly as good as everyone makes it out to be, and if you want to see V.E. Schwab's better writing, read the Villains series. The concept is nice, but the plot and characters leave a bit to be desired, imo.

BONUS: Shadow and Bone (kind of)

While I absolutely ADORE Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom, and also loved King of Scars/Rule of Wolves, I was initially uncertain if I wanted to even read Six of Crows after reading the original trilogy. I read both *years* ago, before BookTok latched on, and I discovered that I cared 20x more about the side characters (Nikolai, Tamar, Genya, etc.) than I did about Alina and Mal. I never really cared about them or what happened to them, but I was deeply invested in the side characters stories. Hence why I'm so happy that Ms. Bardugo decided to explore them in KoS/RoW. But that's not my issue with S&B. My issue with S&B is actually a fanbase issue, not a plot issue. THE DARKALINA CREEPS. Who is their right mind thinks that the Darkling gave one rat's ass about Alina??? Who in their right mind could ship them together. Yes, you're supposed to see the Darkling as more than just an evil monolith, and that's valid. But how anyone can read those books (ESPECIALLY the tent scene near the end of book 1) and not be absolutley REPULSED by the Darkling, baffles me. Yes, you're supposed to feel emotions about him, even mourn his death, (or in my case, the death of the person he coudl have been, the person his mother wanted him to be), but dear god, he's a creep. He's also about 600 years old, and you're shipping him with a teenager. What the hell is wrong with you??? The reader is supposed to follow an arc with him, from being wary to admiring him to hating him, and maybe ending on pity. But SO many people get stuck on admiring, and it revolts me. I'm not going to lie, someone liking the Darkling or shipping Darkalina is a MASSIVE red flag, because of how blatantly abusive and manipulative the Darkling is. He's not even subtle about it, after the first 2/3 of the 1st book.

in the someday emails, james's email address is in reference to his own production company - z productions - which is named after his ridiculous middle name: z. yes, if you weren't familiar with this, james's middle name is just the letter "z." if i remember, this information came from lisa mcgee in a twitter thread during the earlier days of the pandemic. kathy thought it sounded cool, but couldn't decide on an actual name. imo, i think she just wanted his name to forever sound like "jamesie.”

yes! @derrygirlstrash reads just about everything first, even when it's completely half-baked. she's the best first reader for reasons that would make me run out of word count on this post. i'm also lucky to have @imstressedx for her thoughtful perspective and excellent advice when i feel stuck!

this is advice i will give to anyone, but especially a writer who is as impatient as i am - when i am excited about something, i just want to share it right away, even if that's not the best idea - get yourself a reader! that instant gratification of a good keyboard smash can refuel my patience in a way nothing else can and the outside perspective when i get too close to my work makes my writing 10x better than it would be without it.

Fallout tv show ramblings, please don't make me frustrated Fallout on Amazon Prime :((((

The fallout tv show IMO can be seen as actual fallout for better or worse in the regards of the main focus in the story being like a specific Fallout playthrough. I see myself personally getting into characters and stories that are not really part of the main story? ^O^" Mainly because I see Fallout as an semi-episodic storyline kind of franchise. And I always love getting introduced to unique blorbos that have their own thing to do that strays from the path of the main story. The bane is that you can't endlessly spam dialogue or take photographs with those side characters/npcs :((((((((((((((((

I'm most afraid of how the show will try to pace its story especially if it's not planned for multiple seasons to see if it succeeds or not. And since the show would be 10x more expensive than a cheaper practical effects production like Super Sentai/Kamen Rider or even modern Ultraman. Then I fear of the story being cramp and too linear to fit a budget again.

Because I WANTTT Fallout to achieve that fun sense of episodic adventure somewhat that the games would bring if you take your doing quests.

Unless if the adventure really is that thrilling chapter by chapter and all three of the main characters synergize together; like I hope there is good amount of screentime for all three characters.

Misc character fear btw: I can DEFINITELY SEE Cooper Howard getting sidelined because he's technically an "antagonist" in the main story and that having Walton Goggins in ghoul makeup sounds "too expensive" for Amazon. Also a tired trope of potential sacrifice to redeem himself from the person that he becomes That’d be so MEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. That'd be the worst moment in the show that I would cry for in frustration and sadness. Sadness because the scene will be done really well, but also frustration because that feels like the safe boring route to take for a ghoul character that has so much as being morally questionable. Do not pull that lame trope.

I'm overall really HOPING the show doesn't make me wish it was just an expansion DLC for FO4 or FO76 instead. It better show me a story that doesn't have obvious shortcomings of being a modern paced high production tv show and instead make me hype wondering how the characters will get through their journey separated and then potentially together from each other.

it IS 10x cooler. i only played the vigilante route once and the villain several times. they r literally 2 separate episodes and imo the villain episode is Much better. the story is just more fun it makes more sense the stakes r higher. the vigilante episode was kinda underwhelming 2 me. i guess ppl said that about catwoman bc at some point u have to work together? but they barely have any alone time.... like the cringiest forced b*tcat moments of these games r burned into my memory (when she literally forces u to touch her omfg.....) but i cant recall anything from that episode! idk how much difference ur choices make tho. i do let the police fuck her up and i leave her in the freezer and call her a worthless criminal who will never be anything more so maybe theres more b*tcat if uve been nice to her??? 💀 However. i can say for sure that theres a lot more j*rley in this route. a bit gross. but im kinda ok with it bc bruces disgusted face as he watches them make out makes up for it 😈 joker as a villain is MUCH MUCH MORE FUN than as a poor meow meow. he looks better too. since i saw joker with pink eyeshadow and his tie hanging loosely and that partly unbuttoned shirt my life has never known peace. also the fight scene with him is 🥵🥵🥵🥵 i just felt more passion there than in the other one u know?? when they r besties its so... idk so mild so sexless. i tell joker that i pretended our friendship was real* (i never correct posts but i accidentally said fake instead of real so im correcting this) and that i fucking hate him and it feels so good bc he loves it. he loves being my punching bag so much.

it IS a necessary update I will concede that. Not only does casting Hispanic people make it better representation it also genuinely improves the musical to have Hispanic people speak Spanish, it’s better to listen to. It also amends the things that aged poorly which improved the watching experience. However it’s just those things that enhance the musical imo, the movie as a whole isn’t that fantastic. The singing is good! The dancing, when it is employed, is good!

But dancing is so underemployed considering that westside story is a show that is centered around dancing - the first ten minutes of the show has zero dialogue or singing at all - it’s all dancing. When maria and Tony meet for the very first time, they dance a pas de deux, not sing a duet. The original movie has some of the most iconic dance numbers in film history and is known for the extended dance scenes that use dozens of characters - the new movie has a fraction of the dancing and it seems as the Spielberg tries to make this up in using excessive props and non-dancing extras and playing on the set, but IMO he fails bc it just ends up distracting from the dancing. If you’re going to remake a movie that contains some of the most iconic and beloved dancing of all time … you have really big shoes to fill. I don’t think Spielberg filled them. Which is a shame because the movie had potential to be so much better!

I see a lot of critics saying that Spielberg’s work in this movie is a triumph that commits wholeheartedly to the show, but I was so cognizant the entire time that he was the director. The original westside story used color in such a beautiful way and has some of my favorite cinematography ever, but Spielberg employs the boring unsaturated neutrals most of the time and attempts to create a color story with the Sharks which is okay at best. And the costumes left something to be desired IMO but that’s no different from most other period pieces I watch tbh

They make Rita Moreno in the character of Doc but then make Doc SUCH a central character and attempt to give her backstory and it’s so annoying and meaningless and distracting ???

Ansel Elgort, apart from his mere presence being controversial (though that’s a whole other discussion), isn’t that good of an actor???? IDK his interactions with Maria seemed annoying to me at best instead of innocent and earnest. And they added SO MANY extra scenes of backstory and shit ?????? It annoyed me LOL and ironically the original movie had half of the extra dialogue and was 10x more compelling (I think this goes back to the dancing as well - in musicals, when dialogue is not enough for emotions, singing is employed, and when emotions are too much for singing, dancing is employed. By underutilizing dancing, so much emotion is lost.)

So. I didn’t hate it. It wasn’t horrible. But it’s absolutely not a 93% on rotten tomatoes IMO and I feel as though Spielberg misses the point of westside story being a musical - he nails the social commentary but the musicality feels like an afterthought that is executed in a way that is mediocre at best (the singing is good, though)

Oh also there is transgenderism which was cool TBH I was like okay Steven Spielberg I kinda like you

I finally finished my Season 1 Soy Luna rewatch and I definitely have new opinions and some old opinions that stayed the same.

I love S1 Matteo now. He was always there for Luna whenever Ambar would sabotage her. I don’t know why I didn’t notice it before and I have no idea why I hated him the first time… Matteo is a good guy and deserves the world.

I really don’t care about Ricardo’s storyline with Mora. They’re so annoying and took up so much screentime and for what?! Literally no one cares 💀 Definitely the worst storyline of Season 1

Tino and Cato bring the humor to the telenovela which I love most of the time but then other times they drive me insane because they ruin everything, plot wise

I watched SL before I watched Violetta so seeing Olga in the same universe gave me whiplash. I was just thinking wait she’s Amanda’s cousin? And she’s going on a date with Tino? What about Ramallo? Was this after Violetta ended or in between both shows?

Jim, Ramiro, and Yam are the most annoying characters out of the kids. They just don’t know how to mind their own business and almost everything they do and say irritates me.

Jim and Nico were super annoying and toxic. They had serious communication problems and also Jim was just too immature for Nico. There’s nothing wrong with him dating someone younger but Jim was way too childish so that ship just didn’t work for me.

Lol when Ámbar stole Jim and Yam’s choreo I was like you should be thankful because she did it better than you ever could.

Yam and Ramiro had cute moments but for the most part they were too much of a side ship for me to care

S1 is probably Lutteo’s best season. The slowburn drove me insane but I loved seeing Luna struggling accepting her feelings for Matteo. The chemistry is undeniable, especially during their musical moments, which I adore.

Gastina is so sweet and cute. I love them now. I don’t know why but I didn’t care about them the first time. I loved how Gastón was already falling for Nina before he even found out she was Felicity. That made their story 10x better. Their dance when he was blindfolded was one of the most romantic scenes on the show. Gastón had my heart 💘

I love how both the older popular guys at Blake fell for the quiet/unique/unpopular younger girls

I used to be a big Lumon shipper but now I think they work better as friends. There really wasn’t a difference when they were just friends and when they dated… also they had bad timing and always thought it had to be either friends or lovers and they didn’t think they could be both (which I don’t agree with because you can be best friends in love but they couldn’t handle it) and when Luna decided she wanted to be with Simón again in S3, he already moved on and it was too late… so like i said bad timing. They’ll always be that what could have been ship for me.

Simón loses points for not trusting Luna and letting Daniela manipulate him. That storyline drove me insane. Matteo would have believed Luna. He always knew whenever someone would plot against her because he was always super attentive.

Something that doesn’t make sense is if Luna and Simón were friends since childhood then how did she not know he dated Daniela back in Cancún? She didn’t even meet her until they moved to Argentina… did Simón keep it a secret or what?

It’s very subtle but they were definitely setting Simbar up since S1. I saw the way Ámbar was looking at Simón when he sang for her birthday…

Out of the core four, I can multi ship Lutteo, Simbar, Sitteo, and Lumon. I like them all i can’t help it.

Luna is very naïve but there are moments where I can see she can be very sassy/savage, like she pretends to be innocent but she really knows what’s going on… I can’t explain it but I think y’all know what I mean if you’ve been paying attention

The Matteo/Luna/Simón triangle in S1 is one of the best in television IMO because both ships had equal moments and she always went back and forth between the two, which makes it a real love triangle for me because i see a lot of “love triangles” in American shows where they clearly have a bias which doesn’t make it fun at all. It’s just predictable.

The Lutteo finale was so bittersweet… could you imagine if there wasn’t a S2 or even S3 then it would have ended with Matteo leaving for Italy and they technically wouldn’t have been endgame since it was a goodbye scene 😭

Luna saying Matteo is always there whenever she needs him reminds me when Violetta always said that about León 🥺

The skating/choreo has always been my favorite part of the series. That hasn’t changed.

I SAW HOMECOMING

THERE’S SO MANY THINGS I LOVED I HAD TO DO WHAT I DID AFTER HTTYD 3 AND MAKE A BIG LIST OKAY LETS GO 

(in no particular order) 

- Nuffink sitting all attentive and listening to his Dad talk about leaving food out for Toothless 

- ‘we all like trout!’ 

- NUFFINK’S VOICE IS THE MOST ADORABLE THING I EVER DID HEAR, but also I swear he had a somewhat scottish accent? Idek. It said in the credits that he’s voiced by Liam Ferguson and I tried to look him up but found nothing. Whether Nuffy was putting it on and being all cooky and cute (because he sounded american in some parts to me too idk why) I honestly couldn’t tell but it’s kind coincidental how i literally made this post last week:

- Zephyr is absolutely her fathers daughter - making traps? inventions? Looking at random books she found in the attic? We love to see it 

- THE TOOTHLESS TAPESTRY IN THE HADDOCK’S HOME 

- “three if you don’t count Black Plague Friday” “Yeah, nothing gets done, everyone’s just shopping and coughing” EYE-

- “and then it hit me” *gets knocked out by his kids* A+ gag 

- The nightlights drawing Hiccup with wings because they’re like ‘nononono. here dad let us fix it’ that made me go aw

- Astrid having to take a step back because her husband’s flailing arms are literally going to knock her out if she doesn’t. 

- The nightlights being chaotic. again. we love to see it 

- Gobber thinking Hiccup has a fake nightfury head just for personal reasons and not for the pageant 

- “Zephyr designed the whole trap herself!” SHE SOUNDED SO PLEASED. PEAK MAMSTRID 

- Also “What did I say about using the good nets? Kids!” and just going off after them whilst leaving Hiccup hanging from a trap. Domestic parent hiccstrid is on POINT

- Toothless and the Lightfury having a melt down when their kids went missing, also Toothless going OFFIT when he finally finds them and threethless and fourthless putting all the blame on poor fivethless lmao

- “I do not run like that!... Do I run like that?”

- idk why but just the way he fucking smacked his lips and was like “um I read the script Gobber and i have some notes-” idk idk it’s just funny 

- “da da da! we’re doomed” I UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE 

- NIGHTLIGHT NOISES

- one word. “HONEY” 

- “I touched one! I touched a dragon - that’s hardcore!” along with “I would say I was a lot more heroic” yeah yeah hiccup we know you were a cool kid. absolute badass 

- THE PART THAT LITERALLY MADE ME CRY - ZEPHYR GOING BACKSTAGE TO FIND HER DAD AND JUST HAVING A MOMENT WITH TOOTHLESS. HER REFLECTION IN HIS EYES!!!!!!!! I’M TEARING UP JUST TYPING IT WAS THE BEST PART OF THE ENTIRE THING ISTG. 

- Hiccstrid walking with their arms intwined as their kids play and run ahead of them before having a sweet hug. made my heart do a flip :’) 

- The haddock’s inviting Gobber back because he’s a member of their family :’) would’ve been great if y’know..... Hiccup’s mother was there... grandmother to his children and all..... maybe even his good pal Eret..... I’m not bitter I swear

- *zephyr holds nuffink and gobber back so her trap can go off and they don’t get caught* “Okay you’re good” and Hiccup going “So proud :)” !!!!!!!!!! ME TOO I LOVE THIS CHILD 

- “maybe it’s our turn to visit them!” 

- The end credits being to the ending scene from httyd 3. literally the best way they could’ve ended it 

That’s all I can think of at the momennt but all in all I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. If I had to rank it I’d say (imo) it’s either on par or just a teenie tiny bit below gotnf would’ve been easily above if there was some nana valka and uncle eret but whatever, 10x better than dotdr. I loved it :’)

Final Fantasy VII Remake Review

I’ve officially finished the game and I have soooo many thoughts and theories and emotions, so imma jump right in about what I loved, what I wanted more of, what I disliked and what I want to see for part 2. This is gonna be long, but Spoilers below the cut! (also I am not including anything about ships in this)

What I enjoyed/loved:

Characters:

Like with FFXV, I think this games biggest strengths lie with it’s characters (unlike FFXV, I think the story has the potential to be strong too, but I’ll get to that later).

It goes without saying that for me this is the best characterization of Cloud Strife since the original game. I really love the character development we see with him just within part one (we see him go from lovable jerk to really caring about his companions and making the effort to listen to them and comfort them, even if it’s not easy for him and he struggles a lot). I really have a soft spot for characters like that and I think it’s done really well here.

Tifa Lockhart is BEST GIRL! I have so much love for this girl and she’s hands down my favorite to play as (I even made her the leader in the fights because I can don’t @ me). Tifa shows that you can have your cake and eat it too, in that she can be gentle, considerate, kind, and even shy at times, but she still takes names and kicks butt; she doesn’t have to sacrifice who she really is to be considered a bad*ss female character. I think her character is greatly expanded on here than in the original and we get to see just how everything affects her and not just Cloud (which is important since they have been through a lot of the same traumatizing events).

I always thought Barret Wallace was an interesting character, especially seeing his backstory in the original game (something I can’t wait for in the next installment). Here, it’s down 10x better and I love every second he’s on screen. I’m very excited to see how that Black and White morality view he has on the world will be broken down and really put a strain on how he view himself and the things he’s done. I also adore to the heavens his relationship with little Marlene. Also the way he starts to Dad towards Cloud 😭😭😭

Now on the the best character of the entire game. Mere words cannot express how much I adore Aerith Gainsborough. Her characterization is a god-send that I definitely wouldn’t have appreciated had I not looked into other FFVII properties and saw the disservice they do to her. Fortunately for us, in Remake, Aeirth is everything we originally loved about her and more. She’s got a mischievous and sassy side that I adore and just love how she plays off of Cloud. Their interactions were so sweet and genuine and got quite a few laughs out of me.

Other characters:

Um where to start. First of all, Avalanche. I can relate to Jessie on spiritual level because I too thirst for Cloud Strife. All said and done though, he characterization is great and she’s a lot of fun. Her backstory is good too and her relationship with the rest of Avalanche is very genuine. And I love Biggs and Wedge with all my heart. I overall think the expanded character development for these 3 is spot on and really makes their “deaths” hit hard.

Marlene Wallace is a precious baby and I can cry all day about how precious her scenes with Barret are😭😭😭😭

Red XIII is the best boy and he’s hilarious. I can’t wait to delve more into his backstory when we get to Cosmo Canyon.

The Side characters in Wall Market are some of the best in the game. They're all interesting and I really hope we see more of them. 

I hate everyone at Shinra HQ but also Reeve is a good boy, but also screw Hojo x10, but also Scarlet can step on me, but also THE TURKS (where tf is Elena😭), but also SCREW HOJO, bust also that Kunsel/Crisis Core reference tho, but also Rufus Shinra CAN GET IT.

I said it before, but Sephiroth is actually very intimidating (not that he wasn’t in his other appearances, especially Advent Children) but hoo boy, the way we actually see how it terrifies Cloud really makes it stick for me. Sephiroth can get it too don’t @ me.

Story/Other:

I know a lot of long-time and even recent fans won’t agree, but I thought the story was very, very good. Don’t get me wrong, it’s flawed, but would I have honestly been happy with a shot-for-shot high definition update with some expansion here and there? Yeah probably, but I know how that story goes. 

I think doing a complete 180 to the story we know is a huge risk that I have hopes will pay off. I really love the idea that by changing fates of certain characters for the better (ie. Zack, Biggs, maybe Jessie and Wedge), Cloud and the others may have doomed themselves to an even worse fate with Sephiroth and I absolutely love that I don’t know where it’s going to go from here. I mean, I sure we’ll still get our fan favorites like Costa del Sol, the Gold Saucer, Yuffie, Vincent, Cid and ELENA, but we’re in for so many twist and turns and whatever the heck Zack being alive will do to the universe (or alternate universe? Idk I have theories).

My favorite areas in the game were the Sector 7 Slums, Aerith’s House, Wall Market, the Collapsed Expressway and Shinra HQ.

I think the voice acting is good, and for some character’s it’s great. The main cast (Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Red XII and Avalanche) is VERY GOOD and the major side characters are good too. I already know there is discourse about Sephiroth and Zack’s English VA’s so I’m not sharing my opinion right now on that. 

Also the soundtrack is god-tier. I cannot stop listening to “Hollow” and hearing updated renditions of tracks from the original soundtrack somehow made me nostalgic for a game I only started playing last year. It’s top-notch imo.

What I didn’t like:

There’s nothing in the game I genuinely hated to the point where it ruined things for me.

I did enjoyed the second half of the sidequest for Sector 5 Slums (when you have Tifa and Barret back in your party), but the other sidequest were either annoying or hit and miss.

There’s also the issue with padding and certain areas seeming to go on forever. I really liked the Train Graveyard, for the first 20 minutes and after that it kinda dragged on too long for me (we had like two major boss fights in that one area😩) especially when the next major story part was the drop of the Sector 7 plate. I did love the little scene with Aerith waiting to be found; that was really good.

I also am confused about the back and forth about how much Aerith may know about her and the others’ fates. At times, it seems like she knows much more than she’s letting on and other times, she either really doesn’t know or she subconsciously is aware of something, but I guess it’s to be revealed.

Enough people have commented about the graphics and npcs in certain scenes (you know what I mean) so imma just say that at best it’s hilarious and at worse it’s very distracting.

What I want to see next and my overall rating for part 1:

As expressed before, I’m excited to see how much the story diverges and if the Arbiters of fate are really gone. I just feel like there’s more than Sephiroth pulling the strings here, but who knows. I also can’t wait for more references to Crisis Core (if ya’ll show me Kunsel I’ll cry) and I definitely hope we get more scenes of Zack and Cloud in the, I guess, alternate reality? Also playable Red XIII and If ya’ll think i’m thirsty for the characters in this game, just want until Vincent freakin’ Valentine shows up. 

All and all, I think I can confidently rate part one with a solid 9/10. It’s flawed, but it’s going in such an unexpected direction I didn’t anticipate that I’m left hungry for more. The characters are stellar and the expansion of certain parts of the game is amazing. I cannot wait for part two guys. I hope you all found something to enjoy too. Now I’m in the process of replaying it along with some other games I need to finish. I’ll still be tagging spoilers for now (ffvii remake spoilers)

So the redub for the Sailor Moon: SuperS movie was rly rly good, and I liked it a lot BUT

there’s one (1) thing that the old 90s dub did better imo and it’s the scene were Chibiusa is getting taken away. Usagi is trying to jump up after the gondola, more out of desperation than anything else, and Chibiusa, struggling against the crowd of other children extends her hand and shouts “Mama!”

Given that there’s a lot of talk about Moms in the movie, at least in the beginning, I think it fit the movie really well and honestly it made the scene more impactful than Chibiusa just struggling with some grunts as she’s taken away. It makes Usagi’s horrified face 10x more striking too.

But that’s just me.

5th. Breaking Dawn Part 2

- DEMON BABY is scary af and haunts my nightmares

- plot literally doesn’t make any sense ????? how does Charlie have contact with Renesmé and not question the fact she grows 10x as fast as a human and not find out about vampires ????

- some of the cringiest moments in the entire series imo

- I don’t vibe with vampire Bella

- “YOU NICKNAMED MY DAUGHTER AFTER THE LOCH NESS MONSTER ?!!!?!???”

- jacob dad vibes

- the plot twist at the end when it turns out the battle was just alice’s vision ????? peak cinema

- when jacob tells charlie bella broke her hand punching him in the face

- get both Jasper and Rosalie’s back stories

- feel like it has one of the better storylines

1. New Moon

- minimal edward

- bella sitting in that room as the seasons pass by is a big mood

- just straight up vibes
