yukari "CALL ME TAKEBA" i love that actually? yes let's be all formal and standoffish. i actually love how p3's vibe was so different from 4 and 5's. this wasn't A Group Of Pals, Solving Crime, it was a bunch of random strangers working together and only slowly starting to get along.

More basketball bullshit

Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, and Reggie Miller had a sort of 3 way interview/conversation together since The All Star game is in Indianapolis, and it's a good conversation. You never hear Larry talk these days, he's pretty inaccessible most of the time, so having him be pretty open and honest and comfortable with these two was a real treat to watch.

My favorite shit though is, what I was hoping would happen, where Reggie brings up the whole "Larry Bird was the best trash talker in the NBA" stuff, and asks Larry if he considers himself a trash talker. And Larry, as he has since the 80s, says "No, I don't." Except this time around he's talking to people who have direct experience playing him, not some interviewer/member of the press, and both Reggie and Isiah just give him this look all "come on, man."

Seeing Larry finally have to cede and go, "fine, but I did it because it was fun, not to be mean," was really satisfying, because he's tried to insist he never talked trash despite dozens of people--teammates and opponents--over the past few decades basically telling on him (including Kevin McHale, who basically said "lol Larry's such a liar").

It's one of those random things I'd hit over and over again while doing research for the project that I was always sort of baffled by, because there are a billion different stories from a bunch of different people and he was still trying to get away with saying he didn't do it haha. So him not being able to dodge or deny it this time around was great. Though "Well I wasn't being vicious like other people," as his reasoning is funny.

It was good seeing and hearing the old guy talk. He's coming up on 70 in a few years, glad he's still around with stuff to say and seems to be doing okay.

im going to be working on a BUNCH of mods all night and plan to finish up and release Missandei on my discord tonight or like early monday morning cause I will be staying up lol. I am very excited!! I hope I can do her justice.

BUT what i'm really excited to work on are the new characters my friend and I created while fleshing out Freyja's background: her late husband and son!!

i thought a blend of these two actors, Aneurin Barnard and Anar Khalilov would be a really nice look for her son, Vahaelar Stark! I like how Anar kind of reminds me of Frey, (I actually loosely based his preset off of Viserys III, but i wasn't going for an exact replica) but like a younger and more "kind" face.

and i really liked Tom Mison from "Sleepy Hollow" for her husband, Aeron Stark! I have never seen the show, but I really love his side profile and thought he really gave off Stark vibes.

Of course they wont be exact copies, cause that isn't what I want to do, but I really like these for some references! I just wanted to share my excitement about them haha. I'm still working with my friend to help me explore their characters more and give them more depth beyond "dead husband and son" lol.

First and foremost I just want to say that I’m not the best at wording what I want to say and that this ask is meant to be respectful and loving towards you and your decisions and I’m extremely sorry if it comes off as something else! I’m usually a silent observer on here due to extreme anxiety but your art has such an impact on me that I just wanted to let you know how much it means to me.

I don’t really know how to put into words on how much your work will be missed by me. I only recently got into Heat as I watched the movie for the first time literally a few days ago and I was absolutely thrilled to see how many posts and amazing artwork you have contributed to the fandom. You really were carrying the entire Heat and Neil/Vincent fandom on your shoulders.

Your work has also inspired me to draw some more and the last few days I’ve been drawing Al Pacino and Robert De Niro for hours and I don’t think my hand will ever forgive me. Your art was quite motivational to look at as I’m a beginner artist, who hopes of one day gaining half of your skills, so I enjoyed looking back at your art whenever I became discouraged. (Especially the one small comic of them kissing over the desk, that was my favorite for sure and I think about it at least every hour!)

I am honestly gut wrenched to see that you have taken down so much of your work and l only have the few Al Pacino and Robert De Niro drawings you have left on your page to show my friends in an attempt to describe the art that has disappeared. I really really really do hope you reconsider taking your art off the internet for good as I personally absolutely adored it and it’s great addition to such a small fandom. Speaking of which, is there perhaps another place where you have your artwork still up?

Your tag saying that the fandom will miss you really stood out to me and I can’t speak for the fandom as I’m new to the movie but I know I will most certainly deeply miss you and your art even though I only had it for a few days. I... have been involved in the fandom for 2 and half years now, sharing my fanarts... It was fun until it wasn't, and, combined with IRL factors, I just needed to remove myself from the social media aspect of it. Social media is not made for fanwork... for all this time I've watched my most low-effort posts always, always taking over my art. My most popular Heat post was a bunch of pictures of De Niro circa 1995... after that were screenshots of dumb reddit comments, then low-effort black&white sketches, then the high-effort stuff. That's a normal outcome for social media; it's not personal either - but it just shows it's unsuited for fanwork & artists. And it's hard not to let it become personal after all that time putting out art and stories that are personal to me. I know plenty of people share their stuff here and keep on going through the limited engagement - I might just not be strong enough for that. I just need to leave before any more damage is done to my relationship to art. I do not wish to be here anymore, and, for now at least, my Heat fanarts are an extension of me.

So... once again, thank you for reaching out and sending me this message. It means a lot. I'm sorry you probably won't be able to find much more of my art. You should have reblogged it or saved it locally, haha. Keep on drawing and on observing the world, that's how one gets good.

As to how you can find my art: for my fanarts, they are currently set to private here, so while it's not impossible that they become viewable in some way in the future, I'd recommend not expecting it. I've also never posted them on other platforms, so right now they are effectively only visible through the reblogs floating around. I'm currently participating in a month-long intensive writing workshop from Selah Saterstrom/Four Queens Divination. Which is fantastic, by the way—if she ever offers the Write Now! workshop again, I highly recommend it. The project I'm working on is somewhat autobiographical, and the autobiographical parts all come from approximately spring 2003-spring 2005. It's kinda funny, though, to be writing about a time in my life when I was a self-destructive trainwreck, while I'm here now in a time when I wake up, do school stuff with the kiddos, make myself a small breakfast of yogurt + granola + banana, and then do my stretches, before I sit down to write. (To quote myself: My life is easier now, but it's also less shiny. Or to quote W/IFS: Sometimes I miss those days—that's right, you heard me. Other times I could not give a damn.)

As research for my writing project, I've been rereading journal entries from that time period. Some thoughts/observations I've had while reading through them include:

1 - Wowwwww, none of these pass the Bechdel Test. Haha, I know a personal journal entry can't be measured with the same criteria as a film or whatever, but still. For a couple years there, I was very much "The Ugly One" from Teen Girl Squad. You know:

2 - I was actually surprisingly astute about my issues and patterns, even at the time. Astute enough to know how to stop them? No. But give me a break, I was in my early 20s.

3 - One thing that's the same as it ever was is that I am always lamenting about not writing enough. Like: I need to write more. Or: I've been writing a lot, but not as much as I want to. I think I'm just one of those people who, no matter how much time I spend writing, will always feel like it's not enough.

4 - I was reminded of an incident I'd—well, not forgotten about, but forgotten about an aspect of. So, for a couple months in the summer of 2004 I was traveling/couch-surfing. A., one of my roommates at the apartment I'd been living in prior to that, told me I could keep some of my stuff stored there until I found a solid place to live. When I did, I went back to get my stuff, and she informed me that while I'd been away, she'd had a party, and some of my stuff got stolen. Including my bike, and a bunch of my favorite records. In retrospect, I think she stole them, or gave them away, because she was a mean, fucked-up, vindictive person. And it just seemed really fishy. My stuff was the only stuff that got stolen; none of A.'s stuff got stolen, none of the stuff belonging to the person who'd moved in to take my place got stolen. Plus, it was only my most favorite records, not the ones I felt so-so about, and how would some random thief know what my most favorite records were or have the time to sort through the bin to find them? Anyway. That's not the part I'd forgotten about. What I'd forgotten is that when I got upset about it—and I wasn't even blaming her, I was just fucking upset—she called me something like a 'privileged crybaby' for being upset over 'little things like a bike and a few records.' Reading about that again just made me go: Uhhhh, what??? Like, I feel like getting upset about your bicycle and favorite records getting stolen is a pretty normal response for anyone to have in that situation? Especially when you're broke and can't afford to replace them?

In other, more recent news:

My oldest kiddo got an electronic drum pad for Christmas, but I asked him if I could mess around with it when he's not using it, and he's fine with that. So I'm teaching myself to play drums! That's like the only type of instrument I have no experience playing, so why the fuck not? I'm not good yet, but it's hella fun. And if I get better, and become a real drummer...well, if I'm an O.G. zinester and a drummer, I really will be the (nonbinary) girl Cometbus, haha.

I also found out that my county has launched a big harm reduction campaign re: drugs possibly being laced with fentanyl. They are giving out test strips, and Narcan, as well as doing one-off training courses in how to administer the Narcan. So I've signed up. Just because I don't do those type of drugs anymore doesn't mean I'm never around people who do, and I want to make sure I can help people if necessary. (I'm also really, really proud of my county for doing something like this. Harm reduction for the win.)

And, one last thing: I just discovered yesterday that if you type the word 'emo' on an Apple device, it suggests the black heart emoji. Amazing. 🖤

Okay okay alright now for a bit more positivity because I didn't actually spend the last several days in a slump, I promise (not that I'm trying to minimize my feelings or anything of course).

Had a virtual lab meeting on Monday but had to leave partway through to go to the airport. Somehow managed to eat something in the car. Worked on my braids in the airport, on the plane, in the uber to the hotel. Disinfected my hotel room, ate dinner at a diner next to my hotel which was entirely empty except for me and a geriatric couple (the food was just okay and I think the waiter might've been flirting with me but I was too drained to engage and the food wasn't nearly good enough for me to want to go back). Went back to the hotel and worked on my hair for another several hours. Spoilers, even though I finished them that night I wasn't able to find boiling water to set them the whole week. Gonna do that first thing tomorrow.

Tuesday was the major event day. Started with a 9-am departmental information session followed by lunch with most of my cohort (a new guy was added to my cohort (he was also affiliated with the department prior to applying (I think this is important to note not necessarily because I think this was unfair but because.. I dunno I just find it interesting and can't really articulate why (don't get me wrong he's got a crazy amazing CV)))) followed by the snoozefest that was convocation (it was kind of nice but the theater was dark and I just zoned out a bunch) followed by a resource fair (where I scored some free stuff). I took a break and recovered in my hotel before heading back out to a social hour where I met some chem people who were really nice. Then I slept.

I should note that immediately after lunch one of my cohortmates and I went to get our student IDs in the student center. The thing about the student center is that you need a student ID to traverse the student center. So. We waited for a passerby to swipe us into the elevator area because you need an ID to get to the elevators. We got into an elevator with no clue where we were supposed to go and were stuck in there because you need an ID to use the elevator. Someone called it up and we got off on some random floor. We googled the floor we were supposed to go to and figured we'd use the stairwell to get there instead. We enter the stairwell and reach the correct door but couldn't enter the floor because you need an ID to exit the stairwell. We called the ID office and they were happy to help haha.

Wednesday morning was super rainy. I had a conversation and a walk with my advisor which was very nice and reassuring. Got some keys, found my office, met some people. Walked back to the hotel and rested for most of the day. Walked to a Chinese restaurant and got stuffed steamed buns which were amazing even if I couldn't tell whether I was supposed to eat them with my hands or with chopsticks (the table next to me used chopsticks so uh I'll try that next time).

Thursday was beautiful. I got brunch at a little waffle spot and it was delicious. I sat on campus in the shade for an hour or two, just watching the people stroll by. I explored the grad student center (not the one that caused me trouble lol) and it was really nice. My parents arrived and we checked into a hotel closer to my apartment then got Thai (had the best pad see ew I've ever had) and rested for the evening.

Friday was move-in day. Got even more keys. Transferred everything up, went to buy some things, and worked on construction (I built a set of ikea shelves!) until late that night. Set up wifi all by myself. We popped over to a latin american joint that was still open and I had the most amazing rice bowl with black beans and plantains and some incredible green sauce.

More errands Saturday morning until we had to return the rental car. Tried a vegetarian place and it was pretty good, though not a favorite. We took public transport back to campus and walked from there to my apartment. Unpacked bins and organized clothes until late evening. Several hugs later it was just me again (plus my roommate). Slept.

Today I'm thankful for the discord call with my photo- and cello- friends (with a brief cameo by my puzzle-friend). It felt really nice to laugh and carry on with people I know. I stayed on much longer than I should have. Very sleepy.

Lots to do tomorrow (meal prep, tidy, talk with roommate, set alarms).

Made the entire country turn into rabid football fans overnight lol it's so surreal to see it all unfold. I love our girls :')

Even if PH got booted though I catch up whenever I can! Some narratives have been super heartwarming, like Jamaica's who apparently had to do crowdfunding to even get to the tournament in the first place.

There's a set of plain silver plated rings that used to be my grandma's. It's one of the only things we have left of her. Unfortunately my fingers tend to swell and I don't really wear them because of it.

I've been at home sick the last 3 days and just got Paramount, and there are a bunch of good oldies on here, but I almost wish I could queue up episodes of different shows to run. Almost like the queue on YouTube, so when one ends a different episode of a different show plays, maybe throw in a movie here or there. Almost like cable TV, but you can set it up to run whatever you like with no commercials.

1. I was always really good at math, surprisingly! I understood it quickly and it wasn't hard to learn.

4. Well whenever I had to made up a name for something, like a game, a story, kahoot, i would use a random word generator. And there was this one where you put in the name of a bunch of your favorite stuff and it mashes them together, so i put a bunch of different things that made me happy and this was the first one that i liked!

i was fuckin Tired last night thanks to spending like six hours at the dentist so i had some weirdass dreams... the first wasn't THAT exciting but for some reason i was reading RPF about two players on the Edmonton Oilers. i don't watch hockey but everyone else here does so i have to assume i absorbed the knowledge by osmosis because the television is right outside my bedroom.

second dream was the most detailed - attending high school, but minus almost all the usual School Dream staples. for some reason, this place was big on gangs, but not the serious kind. basically just groups of friends or students with shared interests, i guess? apparently the school originally had a sort of house system but it was ended for provoking way too much competition, and as a result the kids formed gangs (which the faculty was desperately trying to rebrand as 'clans' lol). i was in the 'Rippers', which had nothing to do with violence - we were, iirc, a bunch of glass artists - and i think we just took our name from the leader, who was ofc called Jack. he was a rather aggressive type, really neurotic, and at one point freaked out and escaped the school via jumping down the shelves in this three-story library. wild. anyway, there was also the 'Headhunters', who were pretty well known as bullies at one point but had mostly left that reputation behind now. every gang had a meeting place - the Headhunters were in a storage closet (where i sent one of our younger members to play chess with one of their freshmen lol), the Rippers were in the glassblowing facility (jealous of this school), there were the Leafcutters in the greenhouse, the Eagles in the 'Tower' which was actually just the room atop the building for roof access... i don't remember much happening, but there was a lot of worldbuilding haha.

third and final dream was just. weird. i was performing in a musical, one of the leading roles alongside a guy named David i used to know. he was two years older than me, in my brother's grade from elementary through high school. our characters were in love and i guess we'd kinda fallen for one another over the course of rehearsals and whatnot, but hadn't done anything about it until this first performance. afterwards i offered to drive him home, we went to his house (which may have been some kind of group or foster home as there were so many random children there), up to his room... and i think there was like. a fade-to-black sex scene but all i can remember of it is being curled up in bed with him afterwards and going to sleep. this is Weird for two reasons - one, i am a sex-repulsed ace, so no. and two, David was gay and i was still a woman in this dream, so... no? despite this, the next morning i woke up and went outside and he was sitting by the road with a couple of siblings; i went over and snuggled up in his lap and woke up right about then.

it's not anything i would want irl, but i won't lie... it was nice to not be desperately alone for a change.

(also, previous dream pulled from discord: "had a dream last night about a restaurant (sort of a fast food place maybe) called 'Knockoff' which sold, as stated, knockoff versions of other places' foods... but only like, the international offerings that were never available in the US. so you could get all the cool Japanese McDonald's stuff and whatnot. it was gr8.")

I followed you so I was hoping you would see it. Is the detail in Higgs Village about Borous being abused by their father? Because that could be a good origin story for as to how he became so fucked up. I really relate to Doctor Borous in a lot of ways, besides him being patriotic and anti communist when I am a proud owner of Das Kapital and other marxist theories. Also I like how The Think Tank is not only the Institute from Fallout 4 done better, they are also a subversion of it: While you play Fallout 4, the institute seem like a massive threat and a serious organization until you meet them and they are a bunch of idiots who cannot do anything without outside help like Kellogg and the Sole Survivor. Also I like how the Think Tank have a major role in the other DLCs as well as of course the cazadors and nightstalkers and Vault 22 in the base game.

That might be what I was thinking of? To be honest I really don't remember, I gotta investigate again... YOU'RE SO RIGHT though they really are the institute done so much better and a much more interesting subversion. When I first played fo4 I was so upset about the institute being hyped up all game only to be such a letdown, especially when you could've done so much with it ughh. I like to think they have a really big impact too! I believe the think tank was from Van Buren (at least the concept of it, I'm not as crazy about Van Buren as I was so I could be misremembering) and iirc they played a major role there so I think they probably toned it down (since they're dlc in fnv) when they used it as inspo but still kept the impact and the connections. They're probably behind more stuff too that we just don't know about either because it's so normalized we wouldn't think twice about it or we just haven't realized / discovered it yet. Honestly they are SO impactful fallout feels like it would be a lot different without them and yet I never see stuff about them anymore? Maybe I just haven't found the robot enjoyer corner of the fandom haha

my mom's side of the family is from poland !! my dad is technically cuban but wasn't raised with much of the culture so we don't have too many traditions from that side of the family.

the gold, frankincense, and myrrh gifts sounds really cool !! i haven't heard people doing that before !! it keeps things concise and easy(ier) for holiday shopping i imagine.

one more somewhat-music related question i came up with, do you have a favourite elton john outfit :? i know he wears a lot of cool fun stuff so maybe you have some top picks !!

oh wow, that's really neat! do you wish that you had more cuban culture in your life? and are there any other polish traditions (holiday or not) that you really like? I'm technically Irish and German, but the relatives that actually came from those countries are a looooooooong way back in the family tree, so there's nothing we really do that would be an Irish or German tradition, and that's never been a huge part of my identity I guess. Some of my friends say I look like I could be Greek, which is interesting to me because that hasn't really shown up in any research haha

oh yeah, it's much easier all around haha and it keeps us from getting a bunch of random stuff that we won't really need in a couple of months!

I got further with Tiffany mayumi then I did with Elizabeth afton for sure I mostly only drew her because years ago when I was first starting out with art I made a lot of Fanart for Among us, Albertstuff/Flamingo., and Piggy as well as a few other things but that was mostly it and I do remember making a drawing although I don't have it anymore I remember making a drawing for Tiffany mayumi it wasn't that great looking back but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try and redraw Tiffany mayumi years later right? So I drew her lol she looks FABULOUS haha!

Elizabeth afton I wanted to try drawing because i also remembered making art for her in the past and I used to draw for FNAF especially when I was first starting out with art and I remembered making something that included Elizabeth afton in it which I actually still have in fact it's on my tumblr as my profile banner in order to make that I ended up drawing a lot of stuff individually on separate canvases and transferring the drawings onto just one canvas and it was based off a real roblox FNAF fangame I used to play a lot and goof off on and that's a joke based on a actual experience I had in the game at the time I didn't get far with Elizabeth because I wasn't sure the best way to do her hair to match her cannon design I tried my best and ended up with that I was a little disappointed cause it just wasn't Elizabeth but I still thought the progress was beautiful and her hair was nice

The other drawings are of Connie a oc of mine and a random girl I made while I was testing some shading and trying out a potentially new artstyle she has no name unlike connie however I feel like if I did have to name her I wanna call her maybe Anna? Annabelle? hmm I'm not sure maybe she's not really either of those names? I'd be open to suggestions but I doubt I'd get any so whatever

Connie is a oc of mine I made a few years back for project related to multiple other projects I have been working on for years I won't dwell into her character much or those projects however Connie is somebody i have tried drawing a few times over the years I still have those drawings and I uploaded them to Tumblr in order to archive them and show my progress over the years

Connie is an animatronic though and I wanted to kinda try to make her look a little more robotic and kid friendly as she's supposed to appear as such while also making it a little clear there's something off about her

Haha! Of my three ongoing stories, the Wonderlands don't have enough brain to have random facts, and you haven't met my Starfall foundress. So, that leaves the Samples!

As I look back at the last two generations of the Samples, I really bit off more than I could chew and left plotlines dangling. I want that story to be primarily gameplay-driven, but the problem with that is that any long-term arc needs careful maintenance. There's a whole magical fae thread that pops up periodically but didn't get enough attention to make much sense.

So....

Since the Avalon neighborhood was supposed to be infused with magic to the point of affecting the genes of its residents, I seeded the population with random supernaturals. Andria, Vickie's mom, turned out to be descended from an Imaginary Friend. I launched a whole thread involving the indigenous fae of the land, of which Andria was a member.

I used Andria's potions to make all of her kids Witches. Of those, only Edmund did something with it.

So:

Vickie, Edmund, and Winston are all half-fae.

Each fae has an affinity: - Andria's was green growing things - Winston's is motion. He's not terribly interested in the idea of magic, so the affinity manifests in the speed and reflexes he uses as an acrobat. - Edmund's affinity is meta-magic, or the nature of magic itself. This is how he was able to build spells to turn vampires back into mortals. - Vickie's affinity is the sea (shocking I know). This is still going somewhere, but the foreshadowing has been crap. I left out a whole paragraph from Vickie's conversation with Maya that I may go backpatch. Jonah was drawn to Vickie, and ultimately her to him, because of her fae affinity to the sea, which is why when he fumbled to describe what he was feeling, he said, "the Call of the Sea." It wasn't JUST a euphemism for woohoo 😘. There's a bunch of stuff in here, and with creative accounting, I could probably demonstrate 3 things about 3 characters. 🤪

Well, you just know which character I'm going to ask about, don't you? Klavier Gavin!

AAHHH!! Yes!!! My favorite Glimerous Fop! Klavier Gavin favorite thing about them: I really love his demeanor in court! He was the first Prosecutor we had that didn't mention a thing about a "perfect win record" and legitimately wanted to find the truth to the point of helping out the defense! I think that was a really interesting subversion of his role, and it really helps hammer in that upside-down feeling that AJ has going on. least favorite thing about them: Honestly, I'm not a super big fan of his 17 year old design. I don't know what he was trying to do with his hair but it wasn't it for me (sorry Klav XD), but then again, we didn't make the best fashion decisions when we were 17 so he gets a pass! favorite line: I know it'll be super basic, but, "I must say I'm used to being inspected by the ladies... But this is the first time I've felt this way with a man." I mean COME ON??? it was CALLING TO ME! I can't NOT like it!!! XD brOTP: Ema! I think they have the kind of friendship where it sounds like they hate each other, but it's all just a bunch of inside jokes! Basically, Ema's the only one allowed to be "mean" to him, and she will be the first one to defend him! <3 OTP: Klapollo, if my favorite line wasn't enough lol! :D nOTP: This is a really hard one, mostly because I don't think I really have any ships that I feel strongly "no thank you" for with Klavier because I like to focus on what I DO like (AKA Klapollo <3). I guess Gav/nc/st, mostly because that's a huge squick for me. random headcanon: Klavier is a JoJo fan, it explains his fashion (I don't really know much about JJBA other than the stuff I get from my sister, but I might actually check it out now!). From what I know, I feel like his favorite JoJo would be Josuke! unpopular opinion: I don't know how unpopular this is, but I think Klavier is actually a natural blonde lol. It's darker than Kristoph's, but still blonde. I like to think that he actually dyes his eyebrows so he HAS them XD For one I KNOW is unpopular, I actually didn't mind his DD voice. Maybe if I got more than a few lines, I could make a better judgement, but it's not that bad to me XD song i associate with them: Karma by AJR. I feel like it really fits him! It's super upbeat, despite the lyrics. I feel like it really captures his feelings after AJ, just a series of disappointments from Daryan and Kristoph, and the fact that he can't look at his first trial the same way anymore. He really does try his best in court, and he clearly wants to do the right thing, but everything keeps coming back to punch him in the gut. Fundamentally, I think Klavier is a very lonely character because of this, and the rockstar persona is just that, a persona. There's so much you can explore with him, so many possibilities, and I'm really sad that there was no follow up with him. I guess my dream AA7 would acknowledge what the hell happened in AJ favorite picture of them: This is my favorite! I think his and Trucy's friendship could be really fun, especially their love of performing! It's also funny how they're not quite on the same wavelength haha Poor Polly is so confused XD
