the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.

capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.

now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.

and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.

and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.

and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".

it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"

finally found a place to read With the Light online and i'm thrilled; if you haven't read this manga i do Legitimately recommend it

#N posts stuff #like don't get it wrong it Is Not a series about being autistic it Is a series about raising an autistic kid #but also don't be put off by that because it's legitimately a series that I feel Loves autistic people with its whole being #it's kind of a teaching manga so it showcases a lot of different opinions/characters/conflicts/etc. but the Framing is very consistent #in that the manga is Extremely of the opinion that autistic people are People who deserve to be Valued and Accepted As They Are #the onus for change is never put on autistic individuals the framing is basically Universal in the 'the World needs to change #to be more accepting' -- it's a very Social Model depiction of autism that ALSO never veers too far into the #'autism isn't even Really a disability' fallacy; it's very much a 'A lot of autistic people will need constant support in a variety of ways #throughout their lives but that isn't the roadblock preventing them from having their own lives; ableism in society is the roadblock' #the first two chapters are the hardest to get through bc they take place before Sachiko has any real understanding of autism and #so she's isolated and stressed out and the ignorance makes it difficult for her to care for Hikaru properly (there's also a lot of #other characters Blaming her for what's going on which goes unchallenged at this point though that changes later); but after she #understands what autism is she's Firmly in Hikaru's corner for the rest of the series - you can skip right to ch 3 without a problem #if you're not interested in reading about that initial conflict #there's still a Lot of conflict ofc but by then the chapters have some of my favorite moments so i don't want to advocate skipping #them; like Hikaru's daycare teacher explaining how Hikaru's difficulty speaking is the same as other kids' troubles with #things like jump-roping/etc.; and then a mother who has An Issue with Hikaru's presence in her daughter's class realizing the #depth of the problematic opinion bc Her mother (who had a stroke) faces similar ableism from her peers #i'm cutting this post off b4 the tags get Too long but if you're curious but still hesitant man. send me an ask and i will Happily #write an insanely long essay about how much i love this series; i have all the books i'm not excited about the online availability #for Me i'm excited bc i've been wanting to rec this manga for like almost a full decade and i can finally give you a link instead of #saying 'well. you can find used copies sometimes' lol

Semi continuation to the ask about shadowpeach not thinking about the fact they might have been trapped simultaneously. I understand them thinking the other purposefully abadoned them NOW, in present times with all the bad blood. A lot of this has to do with, like, expectations. We know, since this was from Wukong's perspective, what he thought about Macaque even if he's being all "I hate you, you suck!!" right now. He fucking is impressed with Macaque's powers and takes him seriously in every fight. He knows Macaque can't be underestimated. He respects his abilities and magic. He thinks it's cool that Macaque can teleport anywhere! In the Mate Day flashback, he DEADASS thought Macaque just...made a new shadow spell out of the blue. I don't know if I've made this clear, but it is difficult to make new spells.

Wukong held Macaque in a high regard. He was the only one (and still is) who can stand toe to toe with him, after all.

And we all know Macaque thought Wukong could do anything. He's the MONKEY KING. Sun Wukong! Able to beat celestial armies and stand up to gods! He's invincible! He gets whatever he wants! Past!Macaque saw all of this and got it into his head that .. there is nothing that can stop Wukong.

When you have those expectations, you're left with this feeling of... "Why isn't he here???? He can do anything... I've seen it. Why isn't he saving me?" Because you don't think of them being beaten. That's not feasible in that mindset. Incomprehensible. It's also a very childlike notion but they were young then.

It's grappling with the fact that the person you thought was all-powerful and amazing...isn't. Everyone has limitations. No one is perfect. People are going to disappoint you. A person cannot be there for you 24/7 and expecting that is unrealistic.

Also, in chapter 4, you'll see why Macaque wasn't...thinking about that as much. He had other stuff going on.

For Wukong, since we know his story and that he was under that mountain for a while, he did do some thinking...but he just didn't want to believe it. He couldn't...see that happening. Not Macaque.

I think it's clear by this point that...both of them have a hard time coming to grips with the truth.

continuing the outline for thralls, and holy shit does it get intense, emotionally. I don't think I ever got teary-eyed while outlining, but I very much did here (and because of romance??? what is going on???), and... Like, I think that besides two subplots that are still pretty vague in my head right now, it is starting to look very strong, but. I'm still very much on the fence about whether this is a story worth telling, especially now, and especially by me.

controversial psych critical opinion because few psych critical people agree with me on this but I DO believe BPD describes a real...not necessarily disorder but cluster of symptoms that occur from (usually) attachment trauma that very well deserves to be in the dsm because people with that cluster of symptoms need treatment, but I think generalized anxiety and other disorders where it's basically "youre anxious/depressed/reacting this way for no reason and it's because you have a problem and you're crazy and it's your fault" shouldn't materially exist.

like yes, if you fall under the label of generalized anxiety disorder your suffering is real and valid, but realize that your diagnostic label as it exists is BASICALLY "we think you blow your anxieties over things that might be very real to you out of proportion and also you're hysterical and possibly have munchausen's syndrome"

#basically: if a disorder has an explanation that isnt just 'youre blowing shit out of proportion' its fine #if it has an explanation of 'theres no cause only treatment is meds and youre making problems where there arent any' #i think stuff like that should be thrown out #psych critical #antipsych #disability studies tag #mad studies tag #and yeah this is basically based on my experience of being diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder #going over the symptoms and stuff of it and then realizing 'but my 'generalized anxiety' is me reacting to adhd/possible bpd/ocd stuff' #and then realizing 'hey this is a diagnosis people use to basically tell you you're hysterical and you're making up your very real worries #come to think of it i believe i was diagnosed with generalized anxiety as a child over #1.) actual legitimate realistic fears i blew out of proportion from emotional dysregulation from adhd #(like 'nobody here likes me' literally that was true i had no friends!! the problem wasn't me it was THEM!!) #or 2.) manifestations of my low insight/no insight obsessions #(i.e. the constant fears of the apocalypse was LITERALLY ocd. that was an ocd obsession and i felt i had to 'be good' to prevent it) #(either that or die but people treated me and my suicidal impulses at the time as 'faking it for attention') #(even though my brain and the voices in my head from weird ocd related stuff were telling me 'literally you HAVE to die')

a lot of people think test prep tutoring is about test strategies (and parents often seem to want this or think it’s what their child is missing) but while there are some “test strategies” you can use they are typically much more effective for students who are already doing quite well relative to the pack at large because they require a fair amount of understanding and skill to learn well enough to utilize

#my really hot take is i don’t really think Just Doesn’t Test Well is a thing #i think some kids have weaknesses that inhibit testing achievement more than they inhibit other kinds of performance #but there’s always a problem that is in fact a problem not exclusive to tests #except i guess kids whose main issue is pacing. but kids who struggle with pacing but are otherwise doing great are….. rare #and if their parents can pay for test prep tutoring they are probably getting extra time lol #anyway. mostly Doesn’t Test Well means either they have some significant and real skill gaps and weaknesses #that can be faked around to make it seem like they’re sort of always “almost getting it” or “not quite there” #instead of the reality which is they have an incredibly shaky grasp on math fundamentals or can’t comprehend complex texts #or they’re strong on fundamentals and struggle with Attention To Detail #which. again. more salient on tests and admissions related tests do seem to be designed to trap takers on this one constantly #but it’s a legitimate issue #if you got the problem wrong because you answered a different question than the one that was asked bc you missed a word #you didn’t do the problem right

#☢️.txt #listen. all of the fields under this umbrella are legitimate and worth studying #but trying to group them with mainline stem is. silly at best #ppl always turn this into a 'hard vs soft sciences' thing but like. its not that! #im gonna be honest before i took higher level social science classes i didnt think much about this but like. the social sciences #place huge emphasis on the subjective nature of things and imho that goes against the very core philosophy of the natural + logical science #and like. that methodology WORKS for these fields. history benefits from a degree of subjectivity #but social 'scientists' always get pissed off that natural and logical scientists DONT consider that valid #in our fields!!! god the amount of social 'scientists' who insert themselves into physics discussions #using extremely complex aspects of quantum mechanics to justify themselves #while half of them bitch about being expected to know stats. is absurd #im gonna be real i think ppl are attached to the term social sciences bc they think thats the only way for those fields to be taken #seriously and like. thats the fucking problem isnt it???? #you want fields outside of STEM proper to be taken seriously but you continually reinforce this idea by insisting #fields like history and sociology Have to be sciences in the same way as biology and mathematics #and instead of accepting that. youre the humanities its fine its literally fucking fine #you do stuff that scientists dont do. bc science alone cannot answer every single question people have #the naturalistic + objectivist worldview is very good in certain contexts! but it has faults! #and the same applies to the philosophies behind social sciences! #you cannot use the techniques in anthropology in physics and vice versa. its fucking fine #also humanities people need to stop craving approval from STEM people its so. #you are reinforcing the cycle youre pissed off about
