Many fans bemoan Sonic's characterization in issue 50. Why does he talk so much? they wonder. Should he be moralizing at someone he just met? they post on Tumblr/Twitter, the websites for moralizing at people you just met. As a comic fan, should I really be expected to read more than 40 words of dialogue on a single page?
All of these are valid critiques. However, I believe the debate around Sonic's characterization distracts from the issue's most problematic content: the destruction of gay men in the Sonic IDW universe.
The first incident is obvious: the relationship of Doctor Starline and Doctor Eggman. Despite being two men in a relationship, their relationship is very obviously lesbian-coded. As we all know, lesbians get divorced at higher rates compared to hetero- or m/m homosexual couples (source). This is sometimes attributed to the lesbian phenomenon of "u-hauling", in which lesbians move in together very shortly after dating. Now stuck in close quarters despite never truly testing the boundaries of their relationship, they are prone to discover love-breaking flaws in one another that ultimately destroy their romance affair. Eggman and Starline's relationship follows a similar cycle: they meet, move in together, and then tragically break up because they discover irreconcilable differences between each other. Their relationship is lesbian-coded, whether done intentionally by the writers or not.
This is the first affront committed against gay men. Lesbian-coding them is problematic, as lesbian and gay relationship cycles are unique and cannot be swapped around carelessly. Male homosexual romance is particularly distinct. Allow me to outline an example here: typically, the two men begin as rivals who dislike each other for a variety of reasons. This rivalry ebbs due to conflict or mutual interest in helping one another with a problem, such as figuring out what to do when there is only one bed in a hotel room or one of them is going through that "time of the year". Any intrinsic binaries dividing them, be they sociological or biological, play heavily into the flourishing romance--heteronormativity is what makes gay relationships exciting, after all. The two men then realize that they may be attracted to each other despite their rivalry, forgiving each other for past sins even as severe as trying to crash a space station into the planet. They are then free to comfortably fall back into the fictional gender roles ascribed to them, reflecting dominant and submissive positions, and--huh? Sonadow omegaverse doesn't reflect the complexities of IRL gay relationships at all? Weird.
Moving on, I have now established that the lesbian-coding of Starline and Eggman's relationship was one of IDW's first offenses against gay men. The next offense is even grander than the first, so hold on tight!
Within the Sonic universe, Eggman has always stood in defiance of gender roles. His insistence on wearing pants, despite bottoms being a degenerate garment for women only, has always set him aside from other men in the series. Issue 50 undermines his anti-masculine position by reincorporating him into the hetero-patriarchy via intimate violence.
It is common knowledge that drone operators are kinda gay (source). Real soldiers kill other men in close combat wherein their life is likewise in danger. A man killing another man, dominating him while sweaty and short of breath and tussled up, is a strictly masculine affair. Drone operators do not experience such a masculine version of killing. Queer theorist Cara Daggett asserts that the spatiotemporal disorientation of drone warfare emasculates drone operators, as they kill from afar without bearing any of the risks associated with normal combat. A hypermasculine designs and messaging around drones fail to disguise their reality as genderqueer bodies.
This theory can be easily applied to Doctor Eggman. In games and most comics, he does not directly engage with any foes--he prefers to fight with robots and mech suits. His badniks and other robots (such as Metal Sonic) therefore turn into genderqueer bodies as they deny him "masculine killing" by disorienting his spatiotemporal axis relative to his enemies. When this is combined with his insistence on wearing pants, it becomes clear that always operated in defiance to hetero-patriarchal norms. He is a gay man.
In issue 50, this becomes unclear. Doctor Eggman reorients his spatiotemporal axis by grabbing the platypus by his leg and smashing him into the ground. With this one action, Eggman openly embraces his role in the heteropartriarchy by engaging in close combat. The queer ideal of Doctor Eggman is dead.
Starline is gone. Eggman is effectively a heterosexual man. No one cares about Don and Nite. In one issue, the IDW writing team has destroyed the status of gay men in their comics and reduced them to nothing.
Remember this post next time you so proudly post about how many lesbians there are in the comics. Their empire has been manufactured by the systematic removal of gay men in the comics. Do not let the cute wlw or questionable Sonic characterization distract you from this fact!
a/n: sorry, this got away from me. big /j for everything here.

alright boys. big post incoming.
DISCLAIMER: it is 3am upon writing this all down and i am also not a writer
Tumblr media
i’m gonna start with the more lore-based stuff and add the little physical details as they come! so let’s fuckin explain this, shall we
in the world of this design/my personal hc techno isn’t so much the blood god as he is his champion and/or successor of some sort! partially through birth but in a fated sort of way, where he was just inevitably going to achieve the things required of the champion within his lifetime and thus was blessed from a relatively young age without need for some monumental trial. the blood god’s mantle was granted– the cape he wears– and is of a beast that was essentially the manifested will of the blood god. now i do want to say that i’m unsure whether a lot of techno’s physical features also came from the blessing or if he was born with them; i’m leaning towards born with them to an extent, and imagine him as a similar/same species to that of schlatt and tubbo in my hc! nondescript, varying ungulate features with techno only being half blooded (and lacking the strange sclera & tusks initially, as those do fit with the blessing).
before i get into what the mantle does i’ll talk about the beast itself, because i absolutely fucking love it it’s my squinkly little mythic pig
tales of the boar describe it as a hulking, monstrous creature that could dwarf any hoglin and was covered head to toe in blood-red, serrated quills; suffice to say the mantle itself implies it was more likely to have simply been a mutated hoglin, a rare subspecies, or some sort of thick-furred, primal ancestor. the bushy mane of the mantle is very rough and sharp, but fades into a much softer coat further down the cloak– though it does have hints of red here and there, so perhaps not everything was an exaggeration.
the most pressing question is whether the entire thing is just folklore– if the mantle came from a real beast that existed at all or if it was just such a common tale told by the worshippers of the blood god that he himself heard and manifested the trophy into existence.
there really is no way to tell, unless you ask a certain old bird.
true or not, the boar’s story is that of an honourable plague. an animal that destroyed everything in its path and always, without fail, won. no matter how many of the world’s finest warriors sought it out, the beast never fell– never came close to falling. it lived a long and prosperous life, ruining others’, and the blood it spilt is said to have given the crimson forests their colour. it died old and happy as its tusks bore through and into its own skull, the crown on the mantle is representative of that– with the added flair of an article of holy clothing, that is. a crown of emerging tusks, not a trophy because of symbolism of some hero overcoming an impossible foe, but of a beast who lived life to the fullest. the unkillable imbuing its own virtue upon the wearer.
the mantle doesnt give so much as it exacerbates, though, granted only to those who, by their own merit, would inevitably live a life like the boar’s.
essentially while the blood god’s blessing doesn’t best the passage of time, it’ still kickass. and techno wasn’t given his chad nature by some god, he was just recognized for it.
the blessing– again, at a young age– also gave him his very striking eyes and tusks! the eyes are inspired by those of a bearded vulture, where their actual function is flushing blood into the sclera to intimidate other animals (which is just so incredibly perfect). it technically isn’t permanent, but is attached to such a minute increase in heartrate that unless he is incredibly bored his sclera is nearly always red. it’s a good way to tell if he’s sleeping, at least? that is if you can’t pick it up from the closed eyes, blanket, and snoring.
the tusks came in gradually as he aged, and on the topic of physical features his hair is dyed!
the voices (chat) were passed to him along with the mantle, which essentially functions as a selkie style half-pelt that fuses to him, grants him strength and heightened susceptibility to the aforementioned Chat (tm). he’s not a monster by any means when ‘fused’, but behaves slightly more like a big silly dog. or wolf, i guess, given the times he tends to use it. it’s actually the form he’s most comfortable in given how much more durable he is (hence boar guy in his reading glasses chilling up there) but over time without breaks from it the voices grate at him more and more. he kinda took a break from using it after doomsday.
he’s about 6’3 as a humanoid, but closer to 7’ fused with the mantle! it fuses from his chin, down his spine & shoulders to the tail, and finally down his legs.
his forearms, stomach (& most of his back) and neck are almost entirely unchanged minus the scale and build being a little altered! the cape/fabric part actually entirely disappears, and while the action of donning it is a very physical ‘putting it on’, taking it off is more of a mental thing— which poses a challenge when the voices have cause to be particularly loud and he just wants out but can’t focus.
the last few things i’ll touch on is the reception in canon to this, and the effects of the attempted execution.
so nobody but phil and maybe the rest of sbi truly know much about this, it’s actually generally assumed around the server that it’s just whatever strange sort of creature that techno is.
the stories– and the blood god himself– exist primarily in the nether, and techno rarely ever met with people without the mantle fully equipped and fused. it certainly contributed to his reputation, to the point of others being baffled upon seeing his ‘human form’ after assuming for so long that a bipedal, prickly hoglin was just this freakazoid’s default. he didn’t mind; the less vulnerable the better. and it allowed him to wreak havoc a hell of a lot easier, with a hell of a lot fewer voices telling him to tone it down as opposed to his beta male humanoid form. if the butcher army had known to make him take it off, things could have turned out quite differently. but they didn’t, so they can suck it.
lastly, slightly anticlimactically, and a wee bit differently to the art (which, again, was just the rough design after having these ideas marinating in my brain sauces for 7 months with no outlet), the effects of the totem! there arent veins running down him or the mantle’s face as cool as that would be, because, y’know, practicality, but all of his tusks (since he was fused at the time of near-death) have cracks in them that have been mended with gold! he also has a striking, golden lock of hair directly around the impact site on both forms, and fancy gold irises that compliment his freaky deaky sclera wonderfully.
and there’s my techno shit! i’m probably forgetting a lot, or i just havent thought about it yet and will come up with my answer to any questions immediately upon being asked and no sooner but YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! if u read this far ily parasocially

MNP ✦ Wonders ✦ Part 1 -- Categories, types, powers
Time to talk about actual Wonder's properties and how different they are from the canon miraculouses, which despite being described as "magical", always seemed to lack that ""miraculous"" effect that we're told about constantly.
By the way, It's definitely going to be a longer post :)
There is a total of 19 Wonders, with only 8 being fully introduced or seen in the MnP. Those 19 Wonders have been separated into two boxes: Motherbox and Zodiac box, with the latter's fate not being fully known. It's heavily suspected by the current Guardian that all Wonders from the Zodiac box have been destroyed (with a single exception).
✦ MOTHERBOX (WONDER BOX)
Motherbox has been considered the root, the foudation of the balance for centuries, even longer than that as It contains Wonders of great power that are directly connected to elemenets of the world. Let me explain. Within the box, there are Wonders of Balance and Wuxing Wonders; all of which have their very own purpose deeply rooted in the world's peaceful existence.
All 7 Wonders within the Motherbox can also be grouped into insect-type (Bee, Butterfly, Ladybug), feline-type (Fox, Cat) and exotic-type (Peacock, Turtle). This is most often used to describe similarities in hero forms.
✦ WONDERS OF BALANCE
Both Wonders are the most powerful artifacts ever known to mankind. They're the ones keeping everything in order and must exist simultaneously or else risk everything falling apart. Additional properties include of not being able to be separated; you cannot take one Wonder and leave the other in the box. Again, they have to be active, idle, created or destroyed at the same time. One cannot exist without the other and that is a solid fact.
☯ The Yang Wonder - Ladybugs are known for their luck symbolism. In the Wonder's case, It not only brings fortune, but order, balance, miracles and most importantly - creation.
The Kwami is Tikki - duty-bound insect kwami. Using her raw power would spread overwhelmingly good fortune across the land. While It sounds good at first, it's definitely something of a monkey paw situation with twists at every turn. Besides, every single person with very contradicting wishes would turn this into a massive cataclysm.
The weapon is a yoyo. It's capable of catching akumas and purifying them.
Ladybug's power is Lucky Charm. It creates an object that If used correctly, can provide a direct solution to one's problem or immediate defeat of the foe.
Additional skill that the user holds is the Purification/restoration spell. It was invented by the Guardians many decades ago to fix the damages coming from massive battles and only Tikki was able to use it to its full extend.
☯ The Yin Wonder - Black cats have been regarded as the "darker side of the moon" for a very long time. If they weren't the messengers of misfortune and bad news, they were considered witches' apprentices. Harbringers of discord, chaos, misfortune and darkness, destroying everything in their path.
Plagg is the Kwami of destruction. His raw power will cause mass destruction and in contrast to tikki, misfortune.
User's weapon is the stick that allows for extension when needed. Both his and Ladybug's weapons can catch, store and release akumas in context of the show.
Black Cat's power is Cataclysm. Once used on an item, It will "bring misfortune", in most cases it being destruction of the item. In case of using it on a living being, It will kill them almost immediately.
✦ WUXING WONDERS (SECONDARY)
Wuxing is a Chinese art form that introduces us to a scheme of 5 elements: fire, metal, earth, wood and water. All of those elements are assigned to the Secondary Wonders.
火 Fire Wuxing - Fox - Despite the resemblance in type, Fox Wonder is actually closer connected to Yang Wonder - Ladybug. It's the second phase within the scheme and often associated with red colors, strength, dynamism and creativity - which is almost directly connected to its power of illussion creation.
Trixx is the Kwami of Fire. Using their raw power will result in strong, believable illusions of solid objects, buildings, people all over the world that cannot be easily destroyed or recognized as fake.
Fox's weapon is a flute. It's sturdy, allowing it to serve a similar purpose to cat's stick. It can create little balls of energy to attack the foe with.
The granted power is Illusion. User may create a single illusion of any size (reasonably) that is hard to distiguish from reality and not easy to break.
Additionally, If potion of Evolution (see below) is consumed, It grants the user the ability to turn the energy blasts into fireballs until the user detransforms.
水 Water Wuxing - Peacock - Through their graceful movements, peacock is associated with stillness and cold. It's also representative of wisdom, intelligence and wielding great power that is capable of flooding the lands. It's closely related to Yin - Black Cat with its relation to winter and death of matter due to its position in the scheme (inwards and downwards).
Duusu is the Kwami of water. Usage of teir power without a user will result in a mass derealization and removing the ability to tell what is real or not. It's similar to Trixx's power, however It doesn't create anything and simply affects one's mind.
The weapon is a handfan. The feathers are solid and can be pulled out to be thrown at the enemy. They regenerate when the fan is closed.
Peacock's power is Concealment. The user is able to trick the foe's mind regarding their location, position or attacks. It's like an illusion, but from the inside.
If potion of Evolution (see below) is consumed, the user can create water attacks or control nearby sources.
木 Wood Wuxing - Butterfly - While the name might not speak to you at first, Wood element is a lesser character of Yang. It's often associated with strength, cooperation and generosity, which aligns well with the Wonder's power - lending strength to others. Additonally, in Chinese medicince it can be connected to feelings of both anger and patience - resilence in achieving one's goal.
Nooroo is the Kwami of Wood. Using their raw power will result in mass mind-control of people, turning them into loyal followers - specifically targetting those influenced by intense emotions.
User's weapon is a ribbon wand. The length of the wand itself depends on the user's preference - it can be a small handle or a full cane. The ribbon is extendable.
Butterfly's power is Transmission. The user is able to transfer a part of their strength to person of their choice whereas It's important that the person is feeling an intense emotion: whether positive or negative.
If potion of Evolution (see below) is consumed, the user is able to extend their own power (OR the person they've used Transmission on power) by taking up various attributes of different wood types. For example, they can become as sturdy as bamboo or as flexible as Ash.
金 Metal Wuxing - Turtle - Hard and resilent, patient and strong - those are attriubtes of the Turtle. It's representant of wiseness, self-reliance and transformation. The emotions connected to Metal Wuxing are grief and courage.
Wayzz is the Kwami of Metal. Using the power without a user will result in very durable shield elements or straight up shields being created in the nearest proximity
User's weapon is a shield. The size can vary.
Turtle's power is Construction - to create a hexagonal construction of extreme durability which is usually meant to serve as a shield. It can be either a bubble, a wall or a box.
If potion of Evolution (see below) is consumed, it allows the user to create smaller, less durable metal shields or items, but at the same time allow them to bend them however they want even after creation.
土 Earth Wuxing - Bee - Deeply connected to the plants and life on earth, Earth Wonder balances between both Yin and Yang. It doesn't create nor does it destroy. It keeps a perfect balance as all things should be and helps life thrive. The attributes are hard-work, throughfulness, stability, but also stubborness, ambition and worry. Additionally, It's not connected to any specific season - instead, It's almost representant of the period where seasons change.
Pollen is the Kwami of Earth. Using the power without a user will result in paralyzation of many many people in the nearby radius.
User's weapon is a spinning top/spinner. It's very similar to Ladybug's yoyo
Bee's power is Subjection. It paralyzes the person touched by it until the user detransforms. If the spinner is present, the user can use it to apply te venom directly. If the spinner is not nearby, one can use their hand to apply it.
If potion of Evolution (see below) is consumed, the user can fertelize the ground below them and allow supportive plants to sprout to help them in defensive position. Will only work when person is on the ground.
✦ ZODIAC BOX
Wonders kept within the Zodiac box weren't directly connected to any aspect of life, but still provided great support to the other Wonders. Their powers were very utility-based and provided assistance in ways that secondary or balancing wonders couldn't. Worth noting, the Chinese Zodiac was created by using the Wonders as a blueprint, as a way to honor them despite not being as groundbreakingly powerful as those from the Motherbox.
Curretly, there is only one Zodiac Wonder left - The Rabbit Wonder. As to why it survived, I cannot tell due to spoilers, but It wil be revealed eventually.
☁ Rabbit Wonder - The only known surviving Zodiac Wonder, its whereabouts are currently unknown.
Rabbit's Kwami is Tuzin
The user's weapon is an umbrella.
Rabbit's power is Burrow. It allows the user to create portals wherever, jump into them and jump out on the other side. It can be used to transport people, items or just move quickly.
✦ POTION REPLICAS (CONCEPT):
Many of the properties that Zodiac Wonders once provided can be artificially replicated by the use of potions and extracts. Only the skilled Guardians are able to do so and effects will not be as strong as the original artifact provided, but they can still be of use. Examples of the concept will be listed below.
▲ Jubiliation - Once the power of Pig Wonder, now can serve as an essence with calming and un-stressing effects. Master Fu uses it quite often. ▲ Evolution - Dragon's power was once able to use three out of 5 elements of Wuxing. Now, the replication extract may allow the Wuxing wonders' users to use that element in a fight as additional skill/ability. ▲ Elation - Tiger's power that provided the user with ability to gather and release a massive blast/punch of energy. Consumption of the potion will allow the Wonder user to do the same one time - similarly to their "main" power" which will not initiate the countdown to detransofrmation nor will it exhaust the kwami. ▲ Determination - Once the snake's power to give the heroes more time to defeat the foe. Now using a dose of the extract will reset the countdown. ▲ Pretension - Similarly to Jubilation power, Rooster essense can improve your focus on execution of a skill, even outside of the fight. (ex. studying. sewing, playing the piano)
Other potions I didn't think of yet nor can I really think of any use
✦ Additional notes:
Motherbox Wonders are indestructible, literally. The only thing that can possibly damage or remove them completely is their very own power. The obvious example would be Black Cat's Cataclysm and you're completely correct, but a Kwami would be able to destroy it on their own or other holders (Getting a little creative here: ex. If the Turtle user was to crush one of the Wonders, they'd likely successfully damage it.
However, just attempting to destroy it (usually in disguse form) can often trigger a defense mechanism. It heavily depends on the type of Wonder, but It usually ranges from blinding flash of light to illusion of destruction where It pulls itself apart before putting itself back together once the user calls for it.
Most cases of Kwami using their powers without a user need to be fixed with the purifying spell of Ladybug.
I might update this post If I ever think of something new :)

Suzan's original name was Alexandra Țepeș, which the referral of 'Dracula', she was Vlad the Impaler's younger sister. Alexandra & Vlad were close kin, sharing similar interests in forbidden topics, & all things that generally their parents disagreed with. And they reminded close even after Alexandra was married, even after Vlad was married, & became the head of the house & of homeland of Wallachia. Alexandra served as her brother supportive shoulder, & showed indifference for his infamous acts of impaling his foes & leaving them out for display; believing it though overboard, such cruel acts were simply the price of war.
Tumblr media
At some point, unknown exactly when to Alexandra, Vlad made a deal with the devil, who turned into in a monster of earth, the first vampire. She was of the first to learn of her older brother's transformation & live, & as she was not overly frightened of him, offered to extend these dark powers to her, to make her a vampire as well. She accepted this offer & awoken the next day to find her once brown eyes had gone red & that standing in the sun set her skin alight. Alexandra had become a fledgling. And strangely she would remain a fledgling for a very long time, as her powers developed at a slow rate.
Vlad Dracula ruled for many years, but all men must fall, & a man of the devil was no different. He was defeated by vampire hunters, & with his defeat, enemy armies set in within little time to capture the leaderless Wallachia. Many men were killed, & the women & children were captured & imprisoned, their destinies soon to take a dark turn then what the devil could grant.
Tumblr media
While imprisoned, Alexandra would use her vampiric strength to break herself & other women being held out of their cells, making sure all other ladies could leave before doing so herself. Doing so did allow them to escape, but Alexandra alone would be recaptured. It was then her status as a vampire was discovered, & blessed silver chains & cuffs were used to subdue her supernatural abilities, making her as helpless as any mortal woman, new cells with silver bars & silver aligning the walls were also built to contain her.
Tumblr media
She was kept & used as a slave for centuries, with no ends of torture, abuse & assault she was subjected too. She was no longer a human, she was a creature of evil to them, so she would be subjected to evil. With the careful precautions in place of the blessed silver keeping her locked down, there was nothing she could do but endure, & endure, & endure.
Until one day, a blessing, if those exist for vampires, happened. She was found by a set of mortals, a brother & sister, & freed. Unlocking the blessed cuffs at seeing how beat up & sickly she was, wanting to help her, & the power that had been kept under lock for so long exploded out of her. A violent torrent, a wave of shadows busted forth, complete destroying the place she had been held captive for so long, killing everyone in it's wake, including the siblings who freed her at all. She couldn't control it, & she didn't want to at that time. The rush of freedom, the blood of all who wrong her spilling over her body, it made her go insane.
Tumblr media
And she didn't stop there, she went on, village to village, killing everyone in her path, men, women children, it didn't matter, she killed so many in her coursing insanity & drank their blood like the starved dog she was. Until she was home in Wallachia... or at least what was left of it. Only the sight of the ruins that were once her family's place, did her insanity subside, only replaced by sorrow. The all consuming sorrow of knowing everything she had ever known was gone. Her family, her home, all of them were gone, only she remained.
Tumblr media
All that was left was to pick herself up & start anew, but she could not do so here. Not after what she had done, not after what happened to her, she wanted to go somewhere far away, to hide from her memories. And for many years she wanderer to find her new home, turned away by humans as every step.
But one day, she heard of a place called the Bermuda Triangle. It was there she went, & she found the island amidst the sea. Bermuda Island, it was prefect. Far away from home, & with few humans, ones that she could easily bend to her whims. This would be home. She would be the Queen of this island, she would change her first name to Suzan, & she would come to have three lovely daughters... Lucretia, Xena & Fiona.

An 🪶Avian AU
Yes! An Avian AU! Where instead of being mutants, the X-Men, Brotherhood, and their friends and foes (who are mutants) are part bird!
Now, we have different bird wings, bird talents, and bird talons for each different type of mutant. For the feral/beastly mutants, we have larger birds of prey. For the psychics, telepaths, and generally smart/ingenious/creative mutants, we have the likes of parrots, parakeets, and budgies. For faster/coordinated mutants, we have things like the falcon birds of prey, or the likes of hummingbirds. Witch/sorcerer-like mutants are more akin to the likes of ospreys and large waterbirds, such as cranes, storks, and herons. Mutants with abilities like fire, energy, sparklers, ice, and the like fall into the songbird/woodland bird categories, ranging from wrens to crows to bluejays to cardinals. There are so many options, and there are just as many for the reader.
In the 🪶Avian AU, they tend to call their groups/family "flock". Younger avians are referred to as "hatchlings", "fledglings", "nestlings", and "chicks". Different species may use their respective bird species to refer to others, such as calling a young eagle avian "eaglet" or a young swan avian a "cygnet". Adults are very protective of their young, and will die trying to protect their flock from danger. Their territory is fiercely guarded and secured, unwanted intruders being scared off, or hostile ones killed. Nests are built in large rooms that are deemed secure, and are filled with whatever is comfortable/comforting, like blankets, sweaters, plushies, and feathers, and are usually large enough for the entire group. Adults can end up in a more primal mindset when too stressed or threatened, where they keep any younger members in the nest and attack any deemed threats. The same can happen with younger avians, who will go into a state of mind of where they seek comfort and hide from deemed threats. When in these states, both adults and younger members become extremely broody and cuddly towards whomever they deem safe/in need of help.
Different avians eat different things. Some eat fruit, some eat meat, some eat seeds and nuts, others eat fish and crabs. Some have been known to eat carrion, or even humans, if nothing else is available... Avians can mix up their diet, but tend to stick with what they know. Many are known to preen feathers, similar to actual birds, and can do it for each other if wanted or needed. Sharpening of talons can also take place for those who have them. Most avians' eyesight is better than humans, but some have been known to have poor eyesight or none at all.
Avians have been hunted down in the past for their feathers, and for them supposedly bringing luck to whomever can catch one. It was also known that if you caught one, they would likely kill you at the first chance. Avians can hold a grudge, and are not above doing what it takes for their survival, or their species' survival. It was considered much safer by humans to collect avian feathers rather than actual avians. Different feathers meant different things, and many rich and influential humans would have cloaks or fans made out of the collected feathers. Avians can speak the human languages, but also have their own language, comprised of chirps, clicks, caws, hoots, screeches, tweets, and warbles, a language that only a few humans have ever been able to translate.
Flying is important to avians. That is the highest freedom they have, and to take away their wings is considered a mortal sin, an act punishable by death. There are tales in different regions of foolish humans who injured young avians, hoping to take home a trophy, only to be met by their parent or flock, who would then tear them apart. Other tales speak of trying to take one for a romantic partner... those end just as worse, with endings ranging from the avian's original romantic partner slaying the human, their flock destroying the human village, or the captured avian themself ripping through their captor in a feat of rage. Avian folklore is filled with its own mythological figures, like the Cunning Owl, Wise Crow, Loving Dove, and Immortal Phoenix. They also take great pride in their abilities, whether it be fast flight, heightened senses, sharp talons, clever wit, or impeccable beauty.
With a bby, the platonic yans would all go a little "coo-coo". They don't care if their bby isn't quite the same type of avian as them, or how old or young they are. Once they've set their sights on them, they're fixated. They don't want anything to happen to them, and it drives them so close to slipping into their instincts whenever they leave, but, they'll struggle to remain normal. They don't want to scare them off. But, they don't think they can fight it for much longer...

Wukong's panic room
Sun Wukong has a panic room, not for hiding when there is danger, but for when he is panicking and needs to calm down. It isn't really a room more like a huge space within the cave similar to but a lot smaller than the one his house is built in. It was a training ground before the fires. Mostly used when there was either no one around to train with or no one near enough to your level to train with.
There is a force field inside it, made to keep all the magic used and the people involved in the fight inside till the match is over. Inside the force field are simulations of different fights against different foes. These could be formulated and projected for monkeys to train with.
Now you probably wondering how that meant to calm someone down most would think it would have the opposite effect. Yes for most people it would be very unhelpful and probably make it a lot worse but wukong was raised in fighting. To him, it's second nature. You see with every more there is a particular moment you're meant to breathe. So wukong designed a simulation that will sense your breathing speed and start so you need to breathe slightly slower and then lower throughout the course of the match. the moves are predictable and it was one of the first move sets taught to monkeys when they started fighting: mk knows it too. if you mess up and miss a block or something you will get hit but not hard it's more grounding than anything else which is its purpose. (note no that is not healthy please there are better ways to ground one's self).
The force field stores the magic it gathers from the fight happening within and that magic is used to power wukong's house. The force field also automatically adapts to the user's strength so the "attackers" are easy to destroy but solid enough that they are "there". this way wukong can go all out and doesn't have to worry about holding back but also doesn't have to worry about it killing anyone who happens apon the fight.
It is the only place where wukong can ever not constantly monitor the movement of every hair on his body and not worry about accidentally causing disaster. it is predictable and safe and the only reason the world has survived some nights.

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #42
My brain has felt like mashed potatoes all day today. I think it's because I'm a bit short on sleep, and also because I probably didn't drink enough water. Oh well. I'll try a little harder not to slip up with the self-care tomorrow.
Following talk therapy today (in which we made it a point to play cards - to give me a lesson in deliberately taking the time to be non-productive, which is a thing I very much struggle with), I tried my very best to actually chill today. I think I managed; I played Terraria with my lovely friend from Germany, and it was very good.
But you know? On days like this, I feel very similar to the Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephant.
…Wow. I'm sorry. That probably just sounded like word salad to you. Okay, uh… let me see if I can try to explain…
The Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephant (I'll call him Elly for short) was created as an extremely powerful creature of destruction to be commanded without regard for his own wishes, needs, or sentience.
…I suppose that makes him a lot like you, at least in that regard.
A righteous adventurer named Finn and his friend Jake were having a rough time, and so Finn got it in his head to wish for Elly's help. And Elly did help, but Finn didn't want a slave. I don't think Elly understood this very well because he was so used to being an extension of someone else's will instead of having his own. So Elly ends up sitting idle in Finn's treasure room, purposeless because Finn has no interest in commanding him to destroy things. Here:
youtube
Pay no attention to the coin or the fact that Finn and Jake are about to spend it. Instead pay attention to the notion that, despite the fact that being out of the money room is no fault of Elly's, he still said, "I'm sorry, master; you told me to stay inside the money room, but now I am outside. What is your punishment, master?"
…This is something I understand on a very deep level. And I have a funny feeling that you do too, don't you? I'm sorry if you know what it is. But at the same time, if you do know what it is, then I'm not sorry that I also know what it is, because then that means you're not alone, and neither am I.
In any case, the next thing that struck me was Elly's very literal, reluctantly-going-through-the-motions type of acquiescence to Finn's non-desire of a slave - as expressed with his very confused, "I continue to chill," near the end of the video.
And… I feel that in my bones, because I know Elly's not really "chilling". Elly feels confused and as though he has lost his purpose. He does not understand a world in which he is not treated like an object.
Later, Finn asks for Elly's help against a powerful opponent (Darren). Elly topples this foe easily with Finn's help, and knocks the person commanding this opponent (Maja) into a coma:
youtube
From there, Elly goes into a bit of an existential crisis:
youtube
And you know? Given my upbringing and the way that I was treated for such a long time, this kind of existential confusion is also something I understand well. When I first began to live with my husband, it was extremely difficult for me to adjust to the notion that he wanted a PERSON - not a slave, a toy, a tool, a piece of furniture, or an extension of his own will to command, to control, and to punish when I get it wrong. He actually cared about what I was thinking, feeling, wanting, and needing, and not just about what I could do for him. I was VERY unaccustomed to being treated as though my mind or my state of being mattered, and the uncertainty of what I was supposed to do or who I was supposed to be was incredibly painful and frightening at first. Elly flies off into the distance, bearing a kind of discomfort that used to be all too familiar to me.
But then Elly spent some time actually looking at the world around him, instead of focusing on blindly obeying whomever he feels he is supposed to be loyal to, and he seems to realize, if a little slowly, that he has a place in this world, even without needing to be "useful" to someone else:
youtube
How do you light a candle without a match, indeed? If a candle doesn't have a match, what purpose does it serve? This is further explained in this video, and it shows Elly making a decision to return to Maja; he decides that he is the master of his own fate, and decides to act upon his own values, and to be the match to his own candle:
youtube
This all ties back, of course, to the Independent Together video I showed you before, from Steven Universe. "What do I want to be? I'm the master of me…" as a phrase, somehow manages to be both empowering and terrifying at the exact same time.
youtube
I am learning how to be the match to my own candle; it is why I will keep saying "I continue to chill" until I can actually mean it for real. The world I inhabit now indeed has no place for the "ancient ways" that I learned in my past, and so I will adjust, because I am a sentient being who is capable of unlearning and relearning.
Those scientists might have created you with a particular purpose in mind. You might have been trained viciously and brutally honed into a weapon. You might have been trained to give up your autonomy and your authentic needs and desires in service to people who never really cared about you. But Sephiroth, at the end of the day, the only one who gets to decide what you will do… is you.
So will you rise to the challenge of being a match to your own candle? Will you rise up into being the master of you? You longed for a normal life. You longed for friends familial relationships. You longed for fun and for laughter. You longed for pumpkin soup. You longed for so many things. You longed for such wholesome things.
What if I told you that all it takes for you to have the things you longed for is to stop hiding your needs, feelings, wishes, thoughts, and genuine voice from others? What if I told you that you don't have to pretend to be someone you're not, just because a bunch of people who didn't care about you as much as they cared about what you could do for them fed you a really stupid definition of what "good" is supposed to look like, in service to their own shitty agenda? What if I told you that all you have to do is stop denying your own humanity and innermost nature, in favor of being the kind, loving, and gentle individual you always were?
Sephiroth, you're a PERSON, not a monster, not a tool, and not a war machine, no matter what they did to you, and no matter what you've done in the past. You're a living, breathing, sentient human being. You are a warm, soft, and squishy mammal (many of the best things are!), so please be mindful to treat yourself as such. Don't go the way of Darren; use your incredible brain to be like Elly and adjust. You can do it if you try.
So please try. Please stay safe out there as you do your things. And please use the knowledge that you're loved and cared for by me and many others in my world to grant yourself the necessary courage to make good, kind, and loving choices. I'll be over here in the meantime, waiting for you, wishing for good things upon you, cheering you on, and singing little songs for you until you come back home to us all, as I always do.
I'll write some more to you tomorrow.
Your friend, Lumine

Class Feature Friday: Indeterminacy Aspect (Vanguard Aspect)
Tumblr media
Ah, quantum physics, arguably the final frontier of theoretical physics. A lot of people can’t wrap their heads around it, and the metaphors used to describe it can often paint an incomplete picture. However, the gist seems to be that even smaller than protons, neutrons and electrons are quantum particles that seem constantly to change, or at least don’t have a set form until observed, and that there may be an infinite state of maybe-particles just beyond/behind/below space as we know it.
The vanguard class deals with the manipulation of how chaotic randomness creates entropy in matter and energy, so it only makes sense that some would be able to tap into the erratic nature of these quarks and bring forth for a few moments their infinite possibility.
This aspect was introduced in the Drift Crisis book, which makes sense as the galaxy was altered by the sudden crash and breakdown of the setting’s hyperspace dimension, causing either new abilities to be developed by the chaos, or at least tapped into as alternatives while an entire dimension used by every interstellar civilization was on the fritz. Thematically, quantum mechanics works very well as something to explore in this case, since victims of the crash and subsequent crisis were randomly destroyed, sent wildly off course into hostile space, or even ended up on other planes or even alternate material planes!
I could go on about how I disliked the Drift Crisis on principle, but I’ll just leave it at that for today. Suffice to say that I’ve been burned by setting-spanning events that leave the assumptions about the setting changed even after things settle down.
In any case, as we’ll soon see, these vanguards prove exactly what they can do with the chaotic energies of the quantum, which in some ways reminds me a bit of how witchwarpers tap into alternate realities and possibilities.
What is and what is not are blurry for these vanguards, making them surprisingly gifted liars. Furthermore, their focus on ever-changing states makes it easy for them to forcibly reposition foes.
Whether it is their own reactions or being forced to move or act by foes, these vanguards are changed by the interaction with other actors and observers, letting them squeeze a little more entropic power out of such acts.
The effects of quantum particles changing state on the matter that they form is not fully understood, but with an expenditure of energy or as part of a release upon being heavily injured, these vanguards can suffuse their surroundings with energy that warps reality and twists the properties of the terrain, making it difficult to traverse as the matter might break off in sheets, liquify, lose friction, and other strange effects. What’s more, the snap-back when reality reasserts itself is strong enough to throw off aim. Meanwhile, the improved version of the ability causes floors and walls to bond to those standing on or touching them, temporarily impeding movement for a few moments.
Finally, powerful vanguards that have this aspect as their primary can disentangle hostile weapons that strike them from normal reality, damaging or even breaking such weapons as they are shunted into the quantum.
A vanguard with this aspect loves their forced movement, reactions, and hindering foes, so a maneuver and battlefield control build is preferable. Definitely pick up weapons and upgrades for entropic strike that make it easier to take control of the battle and debuff foes.
As I mentioned briefly before, it would not surprise me if there was a connection between this aspect and the power of witchwarpers. Perhaps some of these warriors might have latent witchwarping powers, or studied witchwarping to develop the aspect. Either way, much like the reality-warping mages they probably share a similar worldview, having a fluid idea of what is and what might be.
It was hundreds of years of slumber in a flawed demiplane that transform the shatori into nearly immortal, but  sterile and eerie beings, their flesh altered to be nearly transluscent and their bones limned with light. Many are content to share their knowledge with others to better the universe around them. However, a shatori vanguard named. Lixos believes that by better understanding how the properties of their bodies were altered, it may be possible to reverse the process and restore their people to a more mortal, but vibrant future.
Rumors of strange sights and sounds have been reported in the abandoned housing projects of Beos Waystation. Paranormal investigators are called, but the sources of these disturbances is a young child who ran away from home after her powers over entropy and quantum mechanics awakened. Now, they are terrified of hurting someone with their newfound power.
The party’s current security detail has put them at odds with a mercenary company headed by a pahtra warrior with unusual quantum powers, supposedly granted when the feline was subjected to a vesk super soldier program. It is unknown if any of that is true, but there is no denying the way she subtly alters matter and reality around her.

Part of my rants on the fic I want to write. There is a rape and death scene.
In my mind the reader (my OC in the future) is strong but his power are blocked off and controlled. She is very much like a dog, and for the first time she break free, when her cousin, one of the few people she considered a friend, attacks her. Yet, she doesn't understand that she is still like a dog, just with another owner and another kind of leash.
Gojo is only mentioned but he plays an important role.
I will check for typo in the future.
Maybe you were just a dog.
You bit whenever of lash.
You did what you were trained to do.
You obeyed.
You were okay with food and a good place where to sleep.
Maybe you were just a dog whose leash broke and now you could run.
There was pain. Pain was okay. Pain was something you knew. It was weirdly comforting sometimes to be in pain. If somebody asked you what it felt to be kissed by your mother you would have said that it felt like that. Like your skin was burning, like your heart was jumping out and your head spinning. But you have never been kissed by your mother so you could just guess. Maybe being kissed by your own mother was more like breathing. So normal that you couldn't feel anything when everything was okay.
This time the comfort wasn't there. Pain wasn't an old friend anymore but a horrible foe.
You felt the cold and chilling sensation of a sword on your stomach. And your eyes went up to see your cousin. He didnt look lime you. He didn't look like your brother. He was more dignified than him but more less than you. It was maybe the first time you watched him for real.
His skin was destroyed by acne just under the chin, the little veil of beard made a poor work to cover him. His lips were dry, bit out, with old blood on them. His nose was high, a little big but perfectly fitting for his face. His forehead was little, creased, with a little brown mole on the center. His eyes were of a soft brown, with dark spot on the outside, they were big, similar to the one of a calf, so gentle and happy. You never saw him so happy or maybe you never watched him that closely.
He smiled, his teeth were perfectly clean, his canine a little crooked to the inside.
He moved the sword. You trembled for the cold, yet your blood was so hot while it streamed down your legs.
Your hands went to the sword. It was a sword you never saw before. The metal was a little too soft, you could feel it getting deformed while it touched your bones. Maybe he prepared it only for you. To use it only one time. It was cheering to know that he cared at least enough to use a special sword only for you. That he prepared for it.
You opened your mouth. What you were gonna say? "Why?"? No. It was okay for you to not know why, you would be sad to know it. You liked your cousin, he was one of the few people who you liked, the inly one of your family. But it stung to know that you were the only one to think of his as a friend. Only a gurgling sound left your mouth. You didn't know what you wanted to ask.
He drew the sword out of you and the word became red. It was beautiful. You loved red.
Your legs gave in and you went on the ground. You were loosing to much blood. Maybe this time you were going to die without getting up. There was nobody here to help you, there was nothing other than your cousin and your insides exposed to the air.
There was no fear. Dying was okay. You did a lot of times, only, this time you weren't going to get up.
For some reason you thought of Satoru while watching your cousin's smile. You should have go e with hit to a special restaurant the next day to eat a famous double chocolate cake. He told you that the cream was an explosion of taste and it was a vanilla flavour, like you liked it. Maybe he would go even if you weren't there and order two slice, one for you. You could see his slender hands cutting slowly the slice with the little cake fork, the cream spilling out before he slowly started to ate it, lips black for the chocolate and a little smile of his pink lips because it was that kind of sweet that he liked. The one that made him kick his feet a little.
You watched your cousin. Maybe you could ask him to go on another day. After tomorrow. You wanted to see Satoru kick his feet again. It made you giddy. You were ready to promise to kill yourself too if it meant seeing it again. If it meant to taste that cake, your mouth felt awfully sour. You didn't like the idea of dying with a sour mouth.
Then he unbuckled his belt.
You didn't understand.
Maybe Satoru was right. You were a little stupid. A little retarded. Or maybe you didn't want to think of it. or maybe it was so horrible that you didn't want to believe it, that you refused to understand it.
He was still smiling.
You didn't feel pain. You didn't feel cold on your legs because everything was cold outside of your blood. It was even difficult to see it. You were slowly dying. Too slowly.
But you could still hear. The grunting. It was the kind of pain you couldn't bear. You wanted to scream but you could only gurgle. You wanted to rip your own ear off, but your hands weren't working. You wanted to feel his skin on your hands, you wanted to rip his face off, to destroy him, to burn him, to skin him, to make him eat his own flesh, to tore his limbs apart.
You wanted him to die.
YOU WANTED HIM TO DIE.
TO DIE.
DIE.
DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE. DIE.
He was dead.
Your whole body was burning.
You were feeling every single part of your body and it felt so strangely liberating.
You watched his body on the ground.
There was no skin of his face. Only blood. Gums exposed to air to keep his smile intact. His face was more memorable than before.
That was the only thing that remained of him.
And yet you weren't angry anymore. You weren't sad anymore.
The only thing you felt was the wind on your hair.
You were free.
For the first time in nine years you were totally free.
You didn't have a owner anymore.
You were able to do whatever you want whenever you want.
You could run until your feet started to bleed, and heal to run again. You could go everywhere you wanted. You could do whatever you wanted. There were so many things you wanted to burn down and destroy that you couldn't count them with your fingers.
You could just be everything, do everything and you were ready to start in that moment. You were going to change your own world.
But your mouth was still a bit sour. The sensation of death was still lingering on your tongue.
Maybe you could change everything after tomorrow.
After having the cake with Satoru.

Something about Vlov really strikes me: in the video of his fight with Shiki you posted, the phrasing gives the impression of 'he chooses to fight Shiki that way otherwise he'll lose something important'. Is that an intentional similarity, you think, to Archer vs Shirou in the castle?
I wouldn't say so. There's not much resemblance to Archer and Shirou's fight in the castle from a thematic or even aesthetic standpoint. Shiki and Vlov aren't mirrors of each other, and indeed Shiki within the narrative outright refuses to even recognize Vlov's emerging humanity: the narration goes into how Vlov remembers his days as a knight and how his knighthood begins to emerge as his fear of death revives the person underneath the monster, but Shiki only ever calls him a killer, a first class murderer he can't help but think of as a target of his hate and as a rival to destroy.
However, there IS an Unlimited Blade Works fight that Shiki vs Vlov in the Arcueid route is reminiscent of, and that’s Shirou vs Gilgamesh.
I’m going to go really in depth, so don’t continue if you don’t want spoilers.
I’ve said before about how Shirou’s shadow hangs over the Tsukihime Remake with how certain scenes include “Shirou” choices that would get Shiki killed if he tries them, but Shiki’s battle with Vlov in the Arcueid route is probably the biggest and most obvious example of an initial comparison being drawn between Shiki and Shirou, before we see it quickly turn into something very, very different.
The setup is almost exactly the same: a 1v1 between a human and an impossible foe in human shape (a servant / a Dead Apostle Ancestor), a time limit for the human (Rin’s mana reserve powering UBW, Shiki freezing to death in subzero temperatures), the foe being unapproachable due to unlimited projectile attacks, there’s a blonde woman the monster regards as more of an actual threat, and the fight ends with the human diving the enemy and landing one critical strike just as the enemy draws their weapon.
But when the flesh of the narrative is actually applied to these bones, what we get with Shiki is... very, very different.
Tumblr media
Shirou’s battle with Gilgamesh is easily recognizable as one of his biggest “hero” moments. He has the cool pre-fight speech, the awesome realization of how he counters Gate of Babylon with Unlimited Blade Works, his careful explanation that this would never let him take on a regular servant with a single weapon, only another jack of all trades like him, and the climactic push as he forces Gil to eat his pride and recognize his strength, to recognize him as a hero.
Shiki doesn’t... do any of that. There’s not an iota of heroism underneath the cool battle music and shonen superpowered clash, only a cold monster. Shiki begins their duel by immediately sprinting at Vlov as fast as possible without an exchange of words, hoping to take him by surprise by immediately cutting his lines before a fight even starts.
They lock eyes and Vlov leaps back dozens of feet, feeling an instinctive terror and reasoning that the only reason an ordinary human would rush him like that is if they knew with certainty they would kill him.
Where Gil’s pride clouded his judgement and prevented him from seeing Shirou as both a hero worthy of respect and a genuine threat to his life, Vlov instantly recognized Shiki as a foe that could frighten even him, and that look into Shiki’s eyes rapidly restores Vlov’s human pride, having already been shaken awake from his mindless stupor by his earlier battle with Arcueid. Suddenly, years of madness as a blood-drinking killing machine gave way to the 20 years of his human life that he spent as a knight. Before Vlov was a true monster, a shadow of death, and he ought to meet it as a man.
Tumblr media
In that whole time, while Vlov speaks to Shiki, Shiki doesn’t say a word. The flashes of ice that dart by his head reveal an animalistic grin, but otherwise he says nothing and only counts to himself. Counting the seconds he has left to live, counting the steps between him and his target, counting the number of projectiles Vlov fires at him, looking for any opening which he could take to kill his prey. Until then, Vlov gives it his all to subdue Shiki under a hail of icicles, hoping to overwhelm this human that makes him feel so afraid.
This stalemate is broken not by an action or a mistake either party makes, but because of Arcueid rejoining the fight.
While Saber attempted to come to Shirou’s aid in UBW, Shirou told her to go on ahead and help Rin, as Saber’s aid would ultimately take away from the thematic meaning behind Shirou’s need to fight Gilgamesh one on one.
Shiki however, has no such need for himself or by the story to appear as a hero. All that matters to him is getting his kill, and to that end, he instantly calls to Arcueid for help as soon as he realizes she’s able to fight again.
For a moment, Shiki sounds human again when asking Arcueid for help. Then she uses all of her strength to pull off his planned joint attack and he goes right back to being Vlov’s cold, methodical boogeyman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this whole time, Vlov considers his resources. He needs blood to power his body and abilities, but the battle has drained him completely, and there are no humans nearby. He briefly considers using the emergency vials he has on him, the blood of his wives from back home, but decides against it. His pride as a knight, as a human, burns, and he would not stoop to sacrificing a gift from his wives even if it means his own survival. It’s too important to him.
So instead, with Shiki closing in, he decides to take one last stand. He will draw his melee weapon as fast as he can, and intercept the beast as it closes in on his throat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It doesn’t matter. Vlov’s efforts and pride are meaningless here.
Vlov gave it his all. In fact, he dug deep into himself and pushed himself harder than he’s had to in ages. He took Shiki completely seriously from the beginning, did his absolute best with the information and resources he had, was given an opportunity by the narrative to forsake this human pride and return to his vampiric nature for the purpose of survival which he turned down for his humanity, tried to go for one last heroic attack as Shiki charged him, and what it got him was a knife through the throat and a quick, undignified death with no recognition from the foe he fought so hard against.
With Shiki vs Vlov, Nasu took the structure of one of the most famous battles in all of Fate, dressed it up in the same badass music and action scenes, then used it to say “This is not Fate. Tsukihime won’t play by the same rules.”
Things such as determination and pride can get you quite far in Fate. if not victory, then at least a hero’s death. However, while Tsukihime shares its setting and many of its ideas with Fate, it is also partly a horror story.
And those are all about identifying the more terrifying monster.

Daniel Law - when you’re only human all you can do is smartly manipulate others
After writing one meta about Daniel, I realized that I’d only really hit the highlights of his character around three key events.   His introduction, the Noctova Smile Incident and then the Calamity Auction.  However, he pops in and out during the rest of Back 2 Back and I figured that he was worth a revisit.  Plus, I already write super long meta - I couldn’t fit everything about Daniel into that first one.
Let’s dive into Assistant Inspector Daniel Law a bit more.
Tumblr media
This is pretty much the only image that I can find where Daniel is genuinely happy and not looking like a smug bastard.  Things resolved themselves, lives were saved and he got the outcome he’d wanted.
First off, I’d previously written about his formal introduction in the chapter ‘Run! Lunch!! Run!!!’ where he threatened to arrest Klaus and Steven in the back alley.  Going back on a read through and comparing with the wiki, I realized that he actually appears in ‘Z’s worst day part 2′.  Very stealthy there Nightow.  I didn’t even notice since I’d watched the anime first and will always think of his smug ass in the alley scene.
As all of the intoxicated citizens rush to see the plane be destroyed by the tentacles and the like the HLPD try to get them to move away from all of the chaos.
A policesuit tells Daniel that the drunks keep coming.  Of course Daniel replies as we’d expect him to, stating that it would be surprised for them to actually listen to the police order.  He then states that he needs facts and orders video for evidence.
Tumblr media
As things wind down it is interesting that Steven is the one who gives orders to the team to disperse.  With clear instructions to shake off any police who might be tailing them.  Therefore, at this point in time it is unclear if the HLPD knows the current location for their office.
Tumblr media
Then we have Daniel’s official introduction, which I’ve discussed at length.  And yes, he ‘convinces’ Libra to assist the HLPD using a moral argument to win over Klaus, implying he knows that Klaus is the person to target while Steven snarks back annoyed leading to the threat of arrest.   His comments about K.K. also tell us that he’s been doing his homework on Libra.  Perhaps, he was assigned to them or became the in house expert on Libra?
The next time he appears is when the immature Blood Breed is wreaking havoc and Leo is at the mercy of the deranged doctor who wants him for his eyes.  Daniel is charge of setting up the perimeter so it doesn’t cause more damage and he clearly called Libra (well, likely Steven) for assistance as soon as they figured it out was a Blood Breed.  I’m not sure if the title of captain is a typo/translation error or what.  The point is that Daniel is barking orders at the beat cops and threatens to dock their pay.
Tumblr media
Daniel is annoyed but slightly relieved when Steven and Klaus arrive and he gives them the update on things.  That’s pretty much it.  He’s in a few background scenes but won’t do anything else active since the entire story is about Leo trying to figure out how to fight a mainly visible foe and contact Libra.
We get the return of Daniel in the Noctova Smile Incident which has lots of quality Daniel and Steven bickering.  Through context, we can determine that Steven and Daniel have met up other times between the events where we see them on the pages. Apparently Steven has a habit of showing up when it is any event of importance to Libra.
Their behind the yellow tape conversation highlights both of them don’t sleep enough (we already knew this for Steven) and it is clear both have their vices; coffee and cigarettes.  It also shows that they have very similar body posture, with much more slouchy/noodle than other characters.  I’ve previously stated that the two of them are very much each other’s foil.  Both will do whatever it takes to get people to do what they want but with different styles.  Steven will snark you quietly into submission all with a sly smile while Daniel will bark at you, but because his suggestion is valid you’ll go along with it.
Tumblr media
Now, I’m going to call bullshit on Daniel in this scene.  Steven is quite upset spitting out that he has no faith in him at all and Daniel replies (without looking at him) that is his rule to not trust anyone.  This is a great example of Daniel using very threatening or menacing language but not following through on it.  Why do I say this?  He wouldn’t be able to do his job if his subordinates didn’t trust him in the first place.  And for his subordinates to trust him, he must also trust them as well.  Daniel Law does not lead through fear despite being very loud and emotional when giving orders.
For Noctova Smile, Daniel still uses his HLPD influence to have Libra work with them, but instead of going only to Steven and Klaus, he invites the key members to the precinct showing professional respect and dare I say it, trust. After the death of Veneno the interdimensional thief, we get the chapter where the role is passed onto his daughter, Venedranda.  Before that main point, Steven and Klaus meet with Daniel to get more information from the HLPD.  He stayed behind after the events resolved and Noctova Smile was destroyed by Klaus to continue to comb through the scene.
Tumblr media
This really tells us that Daniel did his due diligence following the crime scene and that he’s detail oriented and wanted to find that mysterious blade. As he’s talking we get a clear view of their positions as they talk somewhere outside and undisclosed.  Daniel almost completely has his back towards them!  What was that about trust Daniel?  You definitely trust Klaus and Steven to turn your back to them and have your left hand in your pocket and right hand carrying your leather briefcase.
Tumblr media
We get some monologue from him about how the incident is stuck in his brain. However, we don’t get the completion of that statement as he then pulls out the briefcase and hands a document to Steven.  I love how he doesn’t make eye contact with them when he holds the manila envelope out for Steven to take a look at it, making it clear that the information is confidential.
Tumblr media
Yep, Daniel, sharing confidential information with Libra, I see where this is going.  Klaus then asks if they’d be able to examine the head but Daniel reveals it sucked itself into nothingness along with a part of the room.  As the chapter unfolds Daniel gets one more page where he gets to be a little badass.  It is obvious that he’s dealt with a lot of otherworldly items popping up in HL and that trying to understand them is pretty much impossible at best.
Tumblr media
Interestingly, his monologue continues over the next page noting that it may be a sort of contract between the wielder and someone else related to the sword - very similar to what we know is the case for Leo.  So, kudos to you Daniel, you have a pretty good grasp of how these sorts of things work.
He shows up in all of volume 5. First, when Brody’s old gang, Dead Lynx, try to rescue him from prison with Hummer and the Warden Alice gets kidnapped along the way.  Thus, he has choice but to call in Libra since Brody & Hummer were taken along with the Warden as Brody & Hummer are technically Libra when he’s allowed out of prison.
Tumblr media
For the two chapter, ‘My life as a Doc’, Daniel leading the HLPD runs directly into the Bradbury Hospital where Dr. Estevez works.  He is attempting to arrest a very nefarious criminal with the nickname ‘the mechanic’ as he’s able to manipulate everything to allow for him to fight, absorbing all sorts of random items.
The criminal dashed into the hospital grounds heavily wounded putting Daniel in an immediate pickle.
Tumblr media
Luciana stands up and states that they will be taking things from here on out, which Daniel isn’t a fan of.
Tumblr media
In typical Daniel fashion he demands he be handed over, but Luciana explains that he must be treated first.  Realizing that he’s stuck, Daniel asks if this is for real before calling Minsk a bastard.  Who gets half a page of hahahaha while we turn to Daniel in a terrible mood on a rooftop.  He angrily kicks a HVAC pipe or something of that sort while Mackenzie (who must be his partner) Steven and Klaus watch him vent from a distance.  Steven tries his “Now, now” which only gets cut off by Daniel telling him “Don’t you “Now, now” me!!”  Which tells us Steven has used his trademark line on him in the past and it no longer works on him.
Tumblr media
Steven awkwardly looks like he wants to reach out and support or console but is stuck as Daniel continues to vent.  Again, with his back towards the three of them.  Interestingly, Klaus is the one who tries to reason with Daniel stating that Law and Estevez are both trying to do their jobs to the best of their abilities.  Welp, I guess this will be the last time Klaus tries to converse with Daniel in a professional setting how well that went over.  This allows for him to bring up an interesting point; we want to be sympathetic to those who are injured, even those who have committed crimes.  But what do you do when that person is going to use that time to be treated only to recover and return to their criminal activities?
This also has a line where Daniel states he needs to make the hospital staff remember that those with power (like himself) have a responsibility to the general public to protect them.
Tumblr media
Now back to his usual eloquent self, Steven asks the Assistant Inspector what he is going to do as someone with this power. Since he called them specifically to meet him on the roof top.  There is an odd silence before Daniel replies; it seems it takes him a minute or two to shift from ranting mode to work mode.  His solution is for Libra to be guards while Minsk recovers in the hospital, stating this is the best compromise he can manage.  And in that Daniel is legally correct - if this were a normal criminal there would be armed guards on him.
Tumblr media
All of his reasoning is totally logical.  You can use normal mechanized guards against him and that he has the right to post guards on Minsk is all within normal protocol.  The only difference is that he has pulled in Libra for a favor since the HLPD can’t handle this and all of their abilities are not mechanical something he can’t manipulate.
As expected, Minsk eventually gets discharged, after threatening to kill everyone which is oh so pleasant in the room in front of the group too.  Daniel is waiting armed to the teeth and is also cleverly making use of Libra who are still there with Dr. Estevez keeping an eye on Minsk.  Once Klaus saw him in person, you know that Klaus would not let this man go if he hurt anyone.
As soon as he become aggressive both Steven and Chain along with Zed try to stop him, but it doesn’t go as planned since even he has counter measures to their attacks that he’s seen.
When Minsk is released as soon as he leaves the hospital grounds, Daniel orders the force to open fire on him to try to capture him.  This goes poorly yet he remains undeterred and boldly holds his ground as Minsk literally splits his body in two around Daniel.
Tumblr media
This goes terribly, but it anything showed that Daniel trusted that the HLPD forces had his back, I don’t know what else would prove that point.  Ultimately, as things spiral out of control, Klaus tries to seal him like a Blood Breed which Steven stops and it looks pretty bad.  Yet, the one who finally figures out that they need to ask for aid from Luciana is Law.  Recognizing that she’s the person who healed him, he likely will be able to wound him in a humane-ish way.
Tumblr media
She prepares to perform surgery on him to cause him to stop, but understanding her moral quandary, Leo messes with Minsk’s vision so he can’t see that Zapp and Klaus are protecting her and Klaus obliterates him into a blob of cells.  The cells were then collected and once she’s able to put him back together, he’ll stand trial.  Either way, this all ended with Daniel putting the right people in the right place to perform actions he could not accomplish.
Which led the the only panel where Daniel looked happy in the manga.  This also resulted him to taking Libra out for dinner and drinks but it devolved into a night from hell with Luciana and Chain outlasting the rest of the group.
Tumblr media
Daniel is face down on the table his tie off to the side possibly wearing his dress shirt only.  Steven is passed out next to him looking equally disheveled with his tie loose and someone had managed to balance a bottle on his head.  Leo and Sonic are in the foreground looking pained while Klaus is limp in Luciana’s grasp.  I can’t image what the bill was when Daniel went to pay it much later.  Klaus may have forced Daniel into inviting Luciana to join them but it appears his gut reaction to exclude her was correct.
Before the Calamity Auction, Daniel returns for a minor role in ‘Be Quiet & Follow Me’.  As usual he’s the contact point for Steven as they are discussing the next job to stop another attempt to destroy HL. The HLPD have some sort of device that is in revision with their engineering team, who are stating that it will be able to get the job done.  Always skeptical, Steven asks if it is secure while Daniel bluntly tells him to shut up and not ask him.  This is a point where instead of saying, “I don’t know.” Daniel of course deflects that question and says that the engineering team said it will work.  Very political language there Assistant Inspector.
Tumblr media
There is also management bonding during the course of the call where reservations about working with a domestic terrorist group aren’t an ideal option for the HLPD and Libra.  Doing their day to day job whether Libra or the HLPD is a giant money pit, so they will tread carefully moving forward.
Tumblr media
We learn that Guinness Purururo is one of the engineers working on the updated HLPD device and she smartly asks where she could get a good glass of scotch.  Daniel kindly obliges her request allowing for her to find Patrick at his usual bar drinking alone.  As the chapter unfolds we learn that Patrick brought Neyka along with him from some previous job in her home country and they started working together.  We also learn that Patrick and Guinness dated a long time ago and ran in a similar group with K.K. as well, who knows her trade nickname of “Queen Bee”.
Under some sort of weird mind control, Guinness’ son Andrew is used as a way to manipulate her including her sabotaging the HLPD device which results in a panicked call for Libra’s aid.  It is quite obvious that the engineers may have over engineered their own creation as Daniel screams out at why they designed it as such.
Tumblr media
Libra rush to their aid, destroying the device.  Welp, another time things didn’t go Daniel’s way but this time, as we saw from his language earlier he wasn’t the person fully endorsing the device in the first place.  It slowly unfolds that Guinness was forced to sabotage the device and Patrick rescues her to the best of his abilities.  After he’s able to cause their van to crash no one other than Daniel is there to whisk them back to Libra to put the special anti-magic gun in perfect working order so that Libra can crush this week’s opponent set to destroy HL.  Daniel is more than willing to listen to their story as they fly back to Libra to save the day.
Tumblr media
He knows that both of them are critical to the success of their current goals, as he did give Guinness information to find Patrick earlier.  However, once he delivers them to Libra he watches silently in the background.  Patrick states he’d return to her sooner, while Daniel snarks he won’t come and rescue him either.
Tumblr media
The ending panel for the chapter has Daniel talking to no one in particular that there is not way the Patrick is going to run back to Guinness again.
Tumblr media
While someone else comments that it is a bold declaration.  How do we read this?  That Daniel is correct in stating that Patrick should steer clear of trouble? Or is this how dense he is to the feelings that Patrick will always hold for Guinness despite having dated her a long time ago?  I could go either way, Daniel is no idiot but we have not seen him have a social life besides work, yelling at people to do things and meeting with Steven in secluded places.
With that the next major arc with him is the Calamity Auction where he does many things including getting his ass literally frozen by Steven, violating house arrest, tracking the Blood Breed bat Bloodline Gate correctly, saving Chain in the process, making sure Leo isn’t hurt in all the chaos and then arresting the auction house owner. When Daniel no longer has his regular position of power, where he’s barking orders, he still has people who are more than willing to work with him.  For example, he snuck out on his own and started chatting up some of the beat cops who were on the ground when the auction house incident occurred.  MacKenzie finds him and joins him as Harrison reports what the snipers saw in regard to the bats.  Both men turn a blind eye to Daniel’s violation of house arrest.
Tumblr media
This circles back to the whole concept of trust.  The fact that Harrison is ready to follow Daniel Law’s orders even when he’s technically under house arrest and off duty, the option is better than dying.  Which only results in a normal Daniel spaz response that he’d get fired.  However, he’ll reveal his active role when he spots the bats borrowing a police radio and drops his badge number.  Later, he’ll lead the SWAT team to the room with the bat gates, save Chain right as the bat blob was about to kill her and also find one of the active gates left behind.
What all can we conclude about Assistant Inspector Daniel Law?
Despite all of his bark, he doesn’t have a lot of bite.  He clearly trusts others in the HLPD, his partner MacKenzie, and a decent number of the beat cops.  Perhaps, not so much those guys in the policesuits?  They seem to get the most of his bitching.
He says that he doesn’t trust Libra but he frequently leaves his back towards Steven or Steven and Klaus when meeting them more discretely.  If anything, the fact that asked Steven for more information on the rooftop seems to show that the trust is a little bit more on Daniel’s side than Steven.  Whoever at the HLPD above Daniel was smart enough to go after Libra without his knowledge.  And when you look at all the times he’s either calling them or working on things with them it is obvious that he is the closest member of the HLPD to Libra. This really demonstrates that Daniel is excellent at manipulating others into helping him to achieve his goals - big picture - to protect HL and its inhabitants from all of the threats.  Daniel knows what words to say to get Klaus sucked in, how to convince Steven something is important and he even requested Luciana’s assistance when it was a smart thing to do.  Why does Daniel do this?  He doesn’t have any other options; he’s a fairly smart and honest guy who is still a normal human.  He knows he can’t make a difference in HL or the HLPD unless he plays things a bit differently.  This goes back to my previous comments in my first meta about him.  Daniel never uses his gun.  I keep thinking that he sees it as a moot point, thus, only finally drawing it when he arrests the auction house owner view the Bloodline Gate.
With Beat 3 Peat several chapters in, I’m still waiting with baited breath when Daniel will return.  Hopefully wearing his pinstripe three piece suit too.  That was when he had the best style.

More stuff for my antivillain au!
So I think everyone will agree with me when I say that marc write fanfinction, so in my au he does and public them in ao3 and chloe actually read them and love them, so she leaves a lot of comments and after a while they bec9mes friends and actually meets(chloe didn't know they were marc but they knew she was chloe because her username is chloebuorgeoisofficial, also chloe love their ff a lot also because in one of them they gives chloe a redemption arc!)[they friendship may or may not lead to chloe adopting marc like almost every single one of her friends, like i think only rose, juleka and luka haven't called chloe mom] *insert here a mommy joke between juleka and chloe*
Also today I was thinking about how chloe would come out to her parents and I thoughy she would do it during family dinner at the restaurant of the hotel.
Oh for clarification, usually chloe skip family dinners because: 1)she hates audrey and andre 2)since andre started actually doing them only after zoe arrived, chloe just assumed they are for andre and zoe to bond togheter
So yeah during dinner chloe would just say "I am gay" and then go back to eat while her parents panic, yell and all the stuff terrible and possibly omophobic parents do. Meanwhile zoe is just in awe(she is still in the closet) and stare at chloe(she wants to say something support to chloe but she is kinda shocked and she is scared of andre and audrey's reaction).
After coming out chloe would stay at the liberty for like 2 or 3 weeks to avoid her parents.
I am not sure if chloe would end up akumatized but if she does it happens in civilian form and since in this au the akuma works that they have a limit capacity of emotion that they then use to gives power(also the stronger the emotion the stronger the powers) and mega akuma simply have a higher capacity, hawkmoth yo akumatize chloe have to bevome scarlet noth and send a lot of mega akuma since everytime he tried with only one the butterfly just ended up burning because of chloe's anger.
So her akuma name is Wrath and basically she is a tall knight in full black armor anf with a huge black sword(similar to the one she has in hero form), also instead of eyes she has two flames.
To defeat Free might want to get help from juleka.
Oh also wrath doesn't listen to hawkmoth, she either just destroy everything or foes absolutely nothing besides walking around paris and fighting only those who attack her(I haven't decided yet) and hawkmoth doesn't deakumatize her because it was fucling difficult to akumatize her and it would be a waste if he did.
Also I was thinking about adding more otiginal miraculous, I was thinking about compleating the emotion set so they would be l: fear, sadness, disgust.
Since the main emotions are them plus happines(the pig) and anger(the hen)
So fear might be either the bat or spider
Disgust is the platypus, yes you read that, mostly because it is funny and because platypus love to clran themself and die very easely form pollution.
While for sadnes i am not sure, maybe the deer? For Bambi mostly or maybe a donkey? For Eeyore fron winnir-the-pooh?

Altered - Epilogue 7
Author: Akira
Characters: Eichi, Natsume
Translator: Mika Enstars
"HeY, Sakasaki Natsume. Your eyes are open properLY, rigHT?"
Season: Winter
Location: OO Stage (fine-O)
⚠️ This is an import from a unproofed Twitter Livetweet!
Tumblr media
Eichi: History repeats itself.
The first time it is a tragedy, the second time it is a comedy.
No matter how serious the content is, if the same thing is demonstrated, it will become apathetic.
Continue the same thing many times over, and there will be a dry laugh.
Sakasaki-kun, you might not intend it, but we really are similar.
Although you may see me now as an immeasurably huge, abominable monster, now.
But, at that time, my young self saw you all—the Five Eccentrics, as the very same thing.
A mighty foe that would crush me if I were to get too close.
Because I was frightened and intimidated to desperation, I grew thorns, and attacked you excessively.
I tried crushing you using more violence and malice than was necessary.
In doing so, I destroyed even what I should have loved and cherished.
It feels it should be a mistake how we’re even able to get together again and laugh with each other like this.
We had parted ways so fatally.
You and I are alike.
However, I do not want you to make the same mistakes I did. I know it sounds hypocritical, but I mean that with sincerity.
I had envied you all.
I wanted to become like you all.
Despite this, I had gained something just as precious as you had before I knew it.
And I let it go, without having ever realized it.
I’ve always regretted it.
How is it? Is this farce of mine funny?
Just look around me. This is all that I let fall. They were such a bright and dazzling pure white, but I didn’t see them at all.
Hiyori-kun, Nagisa-kun.
Tsumugi.
And everyone from fine, who resonated with and spread their wings together with me.
Because I was flying out in the lead, and couldn’t see anything when I looked down, I allowed them to keep getting lost.
And so in order to reach our destination, an idol-like stage where we can laugh together—so many detours had to be made.
I want you to learn from my foolishness, Sakasaki-kun.
Don’t make the same mistakes that I did. You’re a proper idol—You should create a shining stage that brings about happy laughter, not one of ridicule.
Beside you is the bluebird that I released back then.
You mustn’t ever let it go.
Get along as best as possible, and live happily ever after together.
For eternity, like a fairy tale.
Only then will you have finally rise victorious over me.
And I wouldn’t regret it too much, either.
Tumblr media
Eichi: Right now, I have the most magnificent, most beautiful bird in the world by my side.
That happy youth, that bluebird, will never be mine again.
I mourn that fact.
I mourn it deeper and heavier than the final stage of the war.
And I’ll mourn it for the rest of my life.
That will be my punishment.
There’s no need for you to dirty your own hands, boy.
"♪~♪~♪"
Location: OO Stage (Altered)
Tumblr media
Natsume: Tenshouin Eichi, -senpai… He’s looking at me distastefulLY.
He’s like a smug parent entrusting their own dreams into their child’s hanDS.
You’re not my parenT, not a brothER, and definitely nothing like famiLY.
The first such precious friends I found outside of my famiLY… Were those that you mercilessly trampled to deaTH.
That’s why I lived my life hating yOU.
BuT, I couldn’t see the reality behind iT.
To pity and feel bad for my niisans, was like making a fool of them without understanding thEM.
HeY, Sakasaki Natsume. Your eyes are open properLY, rigHT?
I’m not sure if you’re seeing anythiNG.
Rei-niisan.
Shu-niisan, Kanata-niisan, Wataru-niisan.
I was the one who couldn’t see my beloved Five Eccentrics more than anyone elSE.
But, right now I can see my niisans clearLY.
And they’re shining so brightLY, like the sUN.
Tumblr media
Natsume: I had immersed myself up to my head in ignorant darkneSS. I might’ve been the only one who thought such thinGS.
I was just covering my eyES. I had been dreaming this entire tiME, looking away from this realiTY.
BuT, I’m awake nOW…
This tiME, I’ll open my eyes and face this realitY.
Life is a performaNCE.
And right nOW, I’m standing on the stage of oNE.
If I dance with my eyes closED, it’ll be dangeroUS, you knOW.

Note
One other thing I've remembered: although it's very little-known in pop culture compared to the standard Seven Deadly Sins, there were originally EIGHT Deadly Sins, or "Eight Evil Thoughts" to be precise - first conceptualized alongside the more well-known seven in the fourth century, and apparently considered canon by the Orthodox Church today (unlike in the Western Church which retconned it long ago), the eighth Deadly Sin is Despair.
Despair, as you may have guessed, is similar to Sloth (probably part of why one of the two was dropped as a Deadly Sin in the West), but not quite the same. Despair as a Sin is generally defined as absolutely abandoning all hope, in the sense of ABSOLUTELY giving up on the idea that oneself can be saved and forgiven. This in turn apparently sets Despair up as an absolute challenge/affront to God's grace because it challenges and rejects God's capacity for infinite forgiveness, which makes Despair a lot more damaging and unforgivable than the other Seven Sins.
Maybe there could be a special Abraxasverse villain who represents Despair and stands apart from the ones for it?
Oh yeah, I remember hearing about an eighth sin... despair is a pretty heavy one, and off the top of my head I can't think of any specific AbraxasVerse villain who would fit that... unless we want to count Genocide Route Godzilla as a villain. A Godzilla who, after nuking humanity for utilizing the crystal parasite that destroyed his brother and torments him in his weakest moments, who lost the trust of many allies (including but not limited to Abraxas themself) as a result, simply gives up. The once revered King of Monsters is a shell of his former self and spends his days just going through the motions. If something happened, some new foe reared its head and Godzilla called for aid, how many would answer? How many would care if he died? Would he return one day after death like Mothra has, or would he simply be lost to the void? The idea would almost bring a small, wry smile to his weary mouth. Oblivion would be a release at this point... and now that he's all alone, he no longer has to fear losing or failing anyone anymore.

Ascending Spells | It's time to rise to the occasion | dArtagnanDnD Patreon
PDFs of this and more can be found over on at my Patreon here!
A bunch of spells that emphasize the importance of vertical terrain.
Ascend
This may or may not have been roughly borrowed from Tears of the Kingdom. Which doesn't really have a specified maximum height, by the way. Food for thought. This spell probably will mess with a GM's plans
Cyclone
Apparently Whirlwind is a spell in Xanathar's, but I'm increasingly disregarding things not in the SRD at this point, but also my implementation is different. For instance, a Strength save, because dodging a tornado you're already inside is slightly impossible
Jump: Revised
The jump spell stuck with me the moment I saw it as an option for the Seeker Warlock. It's kind of shit, and having it as a bonus option, while cool isn't worth it (especially since otherworldly leap is a thing) This was also the time that I decided that the warlock getting an expanded spell list instead of bonus spells was really weird. So yeah, this received a bunch of buffs, from the obvious of casting time, and duration to something specific, like the fact that you can't spend all of your travel the entire jump distance in one turn without dashing, or at all if your Strength is high enough (since you need a 10 foot run up first). Which also makes it awful in combat. So jump away. Also, it's awkwardly worded just in case you want to Step of the Wind on top of it :)
Vertigo
This is apparently the name of a very similar spell in 3rd edition, but I thought of the idea on my own while contemplating height, so here we go. That said, despite having been prompted by height, the definition of vertigo is "a sensation of motion or spinning that is often described as dizziness." So, I did that and all the movement and targeting fuckery that goes along with it. Don't actually know what the 3e spell does. I would check, but that would defeat my sense of self importance or whatever.
And now to plug my stuff. I release homebrews weekly over on my Patreon. Anyone who pledges $1 or more per post don't have to wait a month to see them, and also help fund my being alive habit.
At the moment, they have exclusive access to the following:
Kobold Airforce
Life, the Greatest Treasure
Old Fashioned Magic Item Crafting
General Item Crafting
I also have three classes, and a splatbook over on DriveThrueRPG to check out:
The Rift Binder. A class specialising in summoning monsters and controlling the battlefield.
The Witch Knight. A class that combines swords and sorcery in the most literal way.
The Werebeast. A class that turns you into a half beast to destroy your foes.
d'Artagnan's Adventurer Almanac. A compendium of races, subclasses, feats, spells, monsters and more!

Sonic the Hedgehog Analyzer, Issue #4: Fallout (Part 4)
Tumblr media
Introducing the last Issue of The Fallout Arc, we meet two more familiar characters and one unfamiliar who quickly shows why she’s awesome. Ladies and gentlemen - meet Tangle the Lemur!
Tumblr media
As Sonic fights his way through another town invaded by Badniks, he comes across Tangle, who easily holds her own against the robots using her tail. She is a brand new character created for IDW!Sonic and (along with Whisper) became a playable character in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.
Tumblr media
As the battle rages on, we immediately see that Tangle is a heroic, optimistic and excitable characters who easily draws you in. She and Sonic instantly become buddies, working together to trash the Badniks that surround them.
Tumblr media
It might feel a bit jarring that Tangle is all buddy-buddy with Sonic, but we’re talking about Sonic here - the guy who immediately befriends everyone who comes across, be it friend or foe. So them getting along feels quite natural, especially since they appear to be very similar in personality.
I had also been made aware that some people had been disappointed when Tangle had been revealed for the first time, as they had hoped that the Freedom Fighters would make a comeback. Unfortunately, it is what it is, and it appears that SEGA has lost interest in making any Archie/SatAM!Character return.
Nevertheless, we do see the return of another character. Encased in an inferno that destroys the nearby Badniks, none other but the Princess of the Sol Dimension - Blaze the Cat - makes her appearance.
Tumblr media
Blaze meets up with Sonic and Tangle, and while Tangle is confused about who she is, Sonic quickly gives her the rundown on the situation; followed by Sonic spin-dashing into the Badniks while Blaze burns them to a crisp. Tangle also joins in on the fun, with the three eventually deciding that they need to take out the battleship above them.
Tangle uses her tail to send Sonic and Blaze flying, with Blaze then using her pyrokinesis to launch Sonic mid-air into the battleship, and I have to say I just love this panel:
Tumblr media
Look at him! Pure gremlin energy! X3
Anyways, Sonic destroys the battleship with Blaze’s help and they meet up with Tangle (Sonic being slightly dazed). Tangle and Blaze introduce themselves to each other and Blaze explains that the Sol Emeralds had sent her here to prevent a terrible event, with Sonic telling her that she missed out on the action (basically, everything that happened in Sonic Forces).
Tumblr media
Blaze figures that she should stay here, noting that there is a reason why the Sol Emeralds sent her to Sonic’s world. Sonic then decides to leave the two and go towards his next adventure, and honestly:
Tumblr media
I just really love this panel. X3
However, we learn that Blaze isn’t the only old character that makes an appearance:
Tumblr media
Why, hello, Dr. Eggman? What are you doing in this place and why aren’t you at your base coming up with a new plan to conquer the world? Now this is intriguing.
In any case, this was the last Issue of The Fallout Arc, and I feel that this story has a very strong start, especially with the mystery surrounding Dr. Eggman and what is going on behind the scenes.
