Small Town Swoons

Hello buttercups! Here is the big fat project I was talking about. I am giving you snippets and teasers of the whole thing, just to let you know what you’re all getting yourself into. 

There are some spicy tidbits here and there, so I would suggest only mature (18+) people read and/or engage with this post.

Apple of My Pie — Jin

In the bakery and café near the university many students barge in, desperate for coffee and the delicious apple pies served there once October comes. Some of them barge in for the sweet sight of the owner, still mysteriously single. Little do you know that he’s been pining after you for years, since you ran into his café in a slow, rainy Sunday morning, drenched like a stray kitten, asking only for friendly help. Friendship sparks easily and his comfort tastes as sweet as autumn apples. That’s how you find yourself flatmates, watching movies with his secret recipe hot cocoa on Saturday evenings and waking up to the delicious scent of his pies on Sunday morning. But the sudden apparition of a rival makes you wonder, what would it be like to fall asleep in his bed every night?

Mold Me New — Taehyung

Divorce is a mess, especially when you’re so young and you had bet your life on your high school crush. All those things you never had to learn are scary now: dating, friends with benefits, all those secret rules on social interactions and flirting. But then your friends gift you a clay modelling lesson at the local pottery. Your teacher looks like a quiet, grumpy man who slowly warms up to you, offering you his kind smiles and gentle laughs. Right when fear that your lack in courtship manners might cost you your greatest chance at a new happiness, his lessons indirectly turn into small advice, and suddenly it feels like his hands are shaping your heart into the perfect, beautiful whole you needed. And to show him your gratitude, you’re more than willing to gift the artist his creation.

“Don’t let it dry too much. Too much water will mess it up. It will become too pliant and it won’t hold up.” That was it. The rule to love. You had bathed him in reassurance and affection, and just like that he had melted underneath your touch, and he had turned into nothing. And the love had run out. “Every shape has its specific requirements.” He explained, dipping his hands in the basin and letting the droplets fall from his fingertips. “Wet hands, but not drenched.” Once he was happy with the result he sat up, his foot starting a small pressure on the pedal. “See, here we go. The clay will show how much water it needs. Easy on the pedal. Very slow. You’re warming it up. Be gentle. You’re not sure it’s good. Just like with people. Easy at first, and once it works you speed up.” He smiled at the material underneath his hands. “Gentle. Easy.” He said, his sinewy fingers gently pressing into the art piece to be. His fingers seemed to stretch and bend imperceptibly, as if he was feeling the very texture of the material, and of the final result he wanted to obtain. “That’s the secret to good things.”

The Shrew, Untamed — Jimin

Everyone gets married in small towns. The hairdresser’s daughter, the butcher’s niece, the doctor’s granddaughter. Even your best friend. And someone has to organise all the weddings. You have taken part in so many it is unnerving. You’re not asking for a husband, a simple fuckbuddy would suffice. You don’t even need someone with skill, you just need to have sex with a human. Though your goal seems unattainable and life apparently truly sucks, the petty florist where you order the flower arrangements offers you a beacon of hope, comforting you and spoiling you whenever you visit his shop, condescending to your every whim. Will he satisfy your every wish or will you have to supervision your best friend’s wedding on the verge of sanity?

“Sit down, sweet pea.” He said, offering you his chair. He immediately stood behind you, digging his fingers into your shoulders, massaging them. He always smelled like greenery. It was relaxing. “Who pissed on your roses, tiger?” He asked, his thumbs drawing circles at the base of your neck. You moaned and closed your eyes. “Poor baby. So stressed.” He purred, laughing. “Portia is getting married.” You groaned. He ohed. “Your friend, Portia?” You frowned and pouted. “That bitch. Portia.” You growled. He laughed a silvery sound. “It’s your best friend.” “It’s a stressed out insult. She wants me to plan it. Jimin, I am so tired of watching people getting married.” He kneaded the nerves near to your spine. “It’s a professional hazard, baby’s breath.” His finger stilled as he reached the middle of your back without finding the clasp of your bra. He moved upwards, ignoring the small detail. “It’s the third in two weeks. I can’t. Is everybody getting married this spring?” You asked, your head rolling forward. “I’m tired. Stressed. Grumpy.” You whine. “Baby, you have your sugarcane at home, use it.” He said, referring to your swirl shaped dildo. You shook your head. “It’s the warmth. Human touch. Sympathy.” Ask me, please — Jimin mentally begged — I’ll be so sweet to you. “And now I even need a plus one for Portia’s wedding. Lest she pairs me up with her cousin. Did I mention that he’s thirty and bald?” You sighed. “I can help.” He said. “With the Plus one.” He clarified. “Don’t expect me to get my fingers in your pie, blossom.” He stated. Natural Connection — Namjoon

The city sucks. And before you definitely choose to resign from your job, you spend the money earned with your all-work-and-no-play attitude in a reinvigorating holiday in a natural resort in the woods. What you find is true heaven on earth, an eden of wonders and explorations. When you meet your guide, who will follow you and you alone, you almost cannot believe your luck. The closed-off man leads you through all the breathtaking sights of your location, offering you emotions and landscapes unrivalled — both in terms of wildlife and... well, humans? The steamy atmosphere seems to keep growing hotter together with the summer days, and before you can think twice your big friendly giant helps you get rid of the hots. What happens when your Adam and Eve idyllium gets interrupted by a ruckus of stag-partying jocks?

Namjoon knew your average blood pressure at rest and under effort, your shoe size, your weight and height. Still when he found you right before him he could barely believe the sight of you. He knew you were small but this small? He was surprised. Amazed. Completely dazzled by your size. “Uhm. Kim Namjoon?” You asked, hesitant. God, even your voice was small — he noticed. As you got even closer, he realised you barely reached his sternum. He was endeared. He imagined how hugging you would feel. Why was he imagining to hug a stranger? “Hello! Welcome to the Valley!” He said, offering you his hand. You took it and shook it energetically. “Thank you. I assume you will be my guide during my stay.” You commented. “Exactly. I'll be your coach and your guide through the whole experience.” “Perfect.” You smiled. He was dumbstruck by it. So sweet and bright. You noticed he had a nice voice. And a kind smile. He looked like a very gentle giant. “Have you brought any specific equipment with you or would you prefer to use the one we offer?” “I have trekking boots and walking sticks. You know, basic stuff that's difficult to find when you're the size of a teapot.” He laughed a loud belly laugh, which surprised you and pleased you. “Okay, we can head to the hall and chat about your activity plan.” He said, leading you. Walking behind him was definitely a hard challenge, both because his legs were kilometric — and damn fine — and because how could you not stare at that ass right in front of your gaze, clad in oh-so tight shorts? Once he realized you were basically running behind him, he turned, a bit confused. And then embarrassed. “Sorry,” he smiled sheepishly, taking shorter steps. "Don't worry, it's okay. I'm a fast walker." You stated. He grinned. He barely stopped himself from murmuring a 'cute'. You were adorable.

Ink ‘n’ Run — Jungkook

People find awful ways to inculcate mean insecurities in our lives. It is to get rid of insecurity that you head to the talented tattooist in a small town near your campus, ready to ink your fears away. Ready to start from zero, you let yourself enjoy a night out clubbing and a steamy one night stand with a tattoed god. Hit by the morning-after regrets, you run away before he wakes up. Little do you know that he’ll be the man you’ll be spending several hours underneath, half-naked as he inks you. Such a shame that you keep running away each time he is ready to ask you for a date. And that he keeps running away after you convince yourself to concede him one. Will you manage to let each other see that you click perfectly or will you let that night be just an accident?

“Oh. You’re back. Lovely to see you, how can I help you?” He looks sweet. God, he was sweet, of course he looks sweet; you thought. He was the most gentle man you had ever been with. Wicked hips, but such a sweet mouth. “Uhm, I have an appointment?” You said, showing him the business card with the date and time of your appointment. “Oh.” His expression was the perfect depiction of confusion. “Uhm. I guess you can come into my studio, then. Do you have someone with you? Would you like Daisy to come in?” He said, looking at the girl sitting at the reception table. “No, I’m cool.” You forced yourself to form a tiny, polite smile on your face. As he walked ahead of you you noticed the way his tight black t-shirt hugged his narrow waist. And his wonderful, jeans-clad, toned ass. God, he had rammed into you like a mad man that night. You shook your head, trying to bring yourself back to reality. Meanwhile, his mind was fuelled by millions of questions. Why had you run? Were you freaked out by what was happening? Were you as affected as he was at the idea of him working on you? Did you think he was a fuckboy? Would you let him take you out on a date? Would you let him fuck you again? Wait, scratch the last one.

Head over Heals — Hoseok

You are the most talented ice skater of your state. Or rather, you were. Your career was harshly interrupted by an unfortunate accident. Healing from the hurtful events takes strong nerves and positive energy. Luckily, your physiotherapist — the neighbour of your childhood home — is the most positive, enthusiastic person. New feelings bloom like daisies on a warm spring morning, while old feelings rekindle and light your way back home like a field of fireflights, back to places that you’ve always loved. It takes little time to get used again to his sweet energy and his gentle hands, healing your body and your soul. It takes even less time to fall head over heels for him.

“What changed?” He asked, drying your tear with his thumb. “I don’t know. It feels like it changed.” He smiled. “You’re still the same to me. Same bright eyed little girl running around in a summer dress, smelling like honey shampoo and sun cream. You feel like home. I think nothing has been okay since you were gone.” Your heart took a second to melt and resolidify around that new truth. “Hobi.” His eyes were glittering. “I think I always had a soft spot for you. You and your knees always scraped, the small curls framing your face, the way your braids came undone that night as we were driving away after prom in the convertible your parents ran away in when they eloped.” He looked so sad. And so beautiful. “Hoseok, I never forgot you, you know. You were my first.” You confessed. “And you were mine.” He replied. He paused. “We were perfect.” “We were.” You replied. We still could be. We are.

Sugar and Spice — Yoongi

A new girl moves into town, her goal starting her life from scrap. And then on a foggy autumn night she ventures in the local pub, where she meets a cute, tattooed bartender who happens to be the local sweetheart. Fate — and the sweet granny next door — seem to push them together; it’s only a matter of time before feelings bloom and attraction becomes too intense to resist. The magic of a small town, and that loneliness that they share and understand so deeply, bring them close at the most wonderful time of the year. Love can blossom even in the dead of winter and who knows, maybe they’ll find a new life by the time of the new year?

“How does it feel to live in a small town?” You asked, stretching your legs out the flannel blanket. Sunlight came in through the yellow leaves of the apple trees. “Like time doesn’t really exist. Until you don’t have any left and suddenly your friends are getting married and having children and all you have is a useless piece of paper stating that you’re a doctor.” He said. “But it’s okay. It’s lovely, at times like this.” He said, looking at the sky. “Marriage and kids are overrated.” You said, laying down. He looked at you, your eyes closed, your hair coming out of his beanie, currently covering your head. “Don’t leave me alone here.” You had a beauty he had never known. Or that maybe he had seen in his mother. That rough, tough beauty that looks dangerous from afar. Delicate from up close. You weren’t gracious. You weren’t cobwebs and golden hair and clouds. You were the ground, the trees, the stone. You were the mountains capped in ice, beautiful and so endangered. Still, so steady. You were the forest, eternal. Nothing could marr you. No man, no humanly disgrace. You would weather and transform, like nature does. Maybe he was idealising you, maybe he was giving you all those traits he had always wished in a woman. “Stop staring at me. Lay down. Enjoy your seconds before you turn into a fifty-something lonesome worm.” You teased. He laid. Your hand found his. “I’ll tell you how a small town feels like, based on the opinion of a girl from a big city.” He exhaled a laugh. “It’s comfort. Like when it rains outside but you’re in your bed and you’re warm and you don’t have to get up. You can simply lay.” He rolled onto his side, staring at your eyelashes. If I blink, will she disappear?

Is it me, or has Ren been purposely distant/annoyed with Nora lately. I've caught on multiple occasions (Mostly CH 1,3,4 and now 5) where Nora will do something and Ren will ignore it, shake his head at her, or just bluntly call her out. It seems to me that RT might be setting up a possible conflict with Renora where Ren might actually snap at Nora for not taking something seriously and be all "Why cant you take anything serious?!" I'm very curious about this--What do you think?

Hmm…well to be fair anon-chan; while seeing Ren flat out turn down Nora’s compliment about his new outfit, much to her disappointment, was annoying to see as a Renora-shipper, outside of that, Ren’s behaviour with Nora doesn’t seem that much different. At least to me.

We’ve seen Ren make dry remarks in response to Nora’s animated outbursts in the past. But for the most part Ren has always been quite patient with Nora; allowing her to be as loud and outspoken as she wants to be and a part of me would like to think that Ren’s unyielding patience with Nora stems from their time surviving on their own together particularly the night Ren protected Nora from the Nevermore.

Nora used to be so scared and soft spoken when we first saw her as a little girl back during the Kunoyuri episode. It’s almost hard to believe she evolved into the exuberant young woman we know her to be. And I think part of that is due inpart to Ren always encouraging her to be that way with him.

The only times Ren’s sudden change in behaviour toward Nora stood out to me the most was in V7CH1 where Ren took off in combat without Nora, much to her clear annoyance and of course their moment in CH3. 

Since Ren was seen being trained personally by Elm (and getting his ass clobbered) in V7CH5, I’m curious to know if this will become a routine thing for him. 

Constantly training, particularly with Elm as part of his regiment when he isn’t on mission or doing team training with Nora, Jaune and perhaps Oscar too from time to time. 

Though that montage with Ren and Elm was short, it was enough for me to take note of it. Why? Because it ties into my theory for Ren’s strange behaviour for this season. As I once told another anon-ninja, I chucked up Ren’s sudden distance of Nora as his way of giving himself some space so that he can grow stronger as a fighter and huntsmen.

Despite starting off as a seemingly weak-minded, scared little girl, Nora has evolved into a powerhouse. She’s definitely become a stronger person than she was before when she met Ren. 

So much so that my idea was that Ren must’ve compared himself to Nora and Jaune and realized that he may be the weakest link within his team. Nora has always been a raging force of nature not to be messed with while Jaune himself has shown immense improvement over the seasons.He’s been especially impressive for this season so far.

Of the JNR trio, Ren is the one to have grown the least in terms of battle prowess. I remember how quickly he would get winded out in a fight after using his aura. Not to mention that another habit I’ve noticed of Ren in the line of combat is getting himself knocked out too easily during a fight and needing Nora to come save him.

It happened back in V1 when Ren jumped on the Death stalker’s back and got himself flung into a pillar leading to Nora coming in to avenge him alongside Pyrhha and Jaune in their first team fight when JNPR was forged.

It happened back in V2 when Yang knocked him down during the RWBY vs JNPR food fight leading to Nora tagging herself in for him.  

It happened in V3 during the JNPR vs BRNZ fight at the Vytal Festival where Ren got taken out by Nolan leading to Nora coming to his defence once again.

It happened back in V4 when he nearly got himself killed by the Nuckelavee if Nora hadn’t intervened. 

It happened in V5 when Hazel took him out, leading to Nora to come to his rescue and send the Juggernaut flying straight through the front door. 

It even happened again in V6 with Ren getting himself taken away by Cordovin leading Nora to fire after the mechazord to get him back. Not to mention that Ren’s stunt left him unable to help defend and/or protect the rest of his team on the ground.

So yeah, as you can tell by my recap, Ren doesn’t do so hot defending himself on the battlefield despite being a competent fight. Nora coming to his aid all the time really has become a glaring habit.

Though the PLOT hasn’t given me much proof to this, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Ren has probably done some self-assessment within recent times and has now made up his mind while the group is in Atlas to strive to improve himself and get stronger, not just for himself but for his teammates, especially Nora.

Now that I think about it, Neon’s quick jab at Ren during the JN(P)R vs FNKI battle from V7CH5 could be used as further justification for my theory:

“…Wow, your boyfriend’s actually holding his own.”

Neon saying that reaffirms my earlier point about how much Ren fumbles in a fight on his own. And I think that’s the reason for his current mood. 

While I do think you might ultimately be correct too in the PLOT setting up a potential fight or tension between our favourite Flower Power pair, for me I feel it has less to do with Nora not being able to take things seriously and more on Ren needing to get stronger. Or hey, maybe both of our theories are correct?

What would make this even more interesting is if Ren’s sudden desire to become stronger ties into what he and everyone recently learnt regarding Salem. 

It would be cool if the whole truth about Salem has secretly been weighing on Ren since Argus and it just occurred to him that if any of them were to attempt to go up against the Wicked Witch—even without her immortality, Ren wouldn’t stand a chance against Salem. He wouldn’t even be able to hold her back in his current shape.

Perhaps…this might even force Ren to think back to the RNJR encounter with Tyrian Callows back in V4 and remember how useless he made himself appear up against a formidable opponent like that who proclaimed himself as a servant of Salem. 

If Ren couldn’t even hold his own against one of Salem’s forces then how can he even call himself a warrior? Shoot, he didn’t even stand a chance against Hazel---another confirmed member of Salem’s forces. 

How was he supposed to defend himself against them, let alone his friends? Let alone his girlfriend and closest companion.

And Ren taking the upcoming fight against Salem moreseriously while Nora isn’t could tie into your hunch regarding his frustration over Nora’s nonchalance? Who knows? It’s another idea for the table of possibilities.

All this being said, a part of me is really hoping for a prospective JNPR 2.0-centric episode for V7.

I want to know what their thoughts on Ruby’s actions in V7CH2 were like. Thus far we have only covered what RWBY thinks with Weiss, Blake and Yang basically playing follow the leader and siding with Ruby. However we don’t know how Jaune, Ren and Nora took the news. We haven’t seen them antagonize Ruby or any of the RWBY girls at all.

One the contrary, JNR behave just as normally as they ever did with RWBY which says they’re fine with the way things are for now.

I find that to be a little odd given how strongly JNR reacted to the truth about Salem back in V6CH8. Perhaps their all hiding their true thoughts for the sake of friendship with Ruby and Team RWBY. 

But I wonder how JNR will think about the matter once they hear it from the perspective of someone who doesn’t share in Ruby’s approach—another smaller, more honest soul who the trio have gradually been growing closer to. 

It’d be interesting if we got Oscar approaching JNR for support with him possibly going forward and unveiling the truth to Ironwood. Or at least back him up when confronting Ruby again on the subject.

For me, I mostly want an episode that focuses on Ren and Nora confronting the growing strain in their relationship while potentially leading into a discussion of their past together but from Nora’s point of view this time.

I also wish for an episode like this to show Oscar conflicted on the right approach while confiding in Jaune.

@megashadowdragon​ shared with me their theory on Jaune telling Oscar about the time he forged his admission papers to get into Beacon Academy. I can see Jaune talking to Oscar in regards to his feelings while using himself as an example in morality.

I have a strong feeling that this WILL surely happen down the line. While we got a teaser of Oscar training with Ironwood in CH5, it is to be noted that Oscar’s training was assigned to help him jog Oz out of his mind.

Though things are reasonably friendly between Oscar and Ironwood at the moment, it wouldn’t surprise if down the line James starts to grow wary when he acknowledges that the training regimen hasn’t been successful in bringing Oz back. 

While it’s definitely assisted in Oscar’s improvement as a huntsman, as I said, the purpose of the training was to bring back Oz. So if nothing happens in that regard, James will start to get suspicious. He might even start to probe Oscar for more information on his current predicament which could potentially poke holes in Ruby’s swish cheese of an alibi from V7CH2.

Perhaps…even the talk of aura experiments will finally be brought up from this. Imagine if…Ironwood eventually makes the proposition for Oscar to allow Atlas to run tests on his aura as another alternative to forcing Oz to return…unless Oscar gives him a valid reason while he shouldn’t let him undergo experimentation—meaning the truth.

Perhaps…it’ll be a case where Oscar becomes frightened regarding the thought of undergoing experimentation. It’s basically a prospect where Ironwood has unknowingly backed Oscar into a corner based on Ruby’s lie; so to speak. So either the truth comes out or…Oscar gets experimented on for no reason?

And we all know how nice those Atlesian Aura Experiments go for their subjects, right? I know Jaune certainly remembers how great it was for Pyrhha back in V3. 

I dunno. I’m only bringing this concept up since I’m curious to know when the PLOT will reintroduce Atlas’ experimental aura technology and research that was revealed back in V3. I still have a feeling that’s going to come back somehow. Either it’ll be part of Oscar’s story for V7 or be savoured for the subplot with our revealed Winter Maiden: Fria.

As an alternative, Oscar could just eventually start to feel pressured by keeping the truth from the General, seeing how kind he and his lieutenants have been to him and the others. 

Oscar becomes conflicted on what the right thing to do should be. He knows that the Relic of Knowledge is in his possession since Ruby trusted it with him. But at the same time, the little barn prince is also fully aware that one question still remains with the lamp—a question that could be used to unveil the whole truth to Ironwood. The problem is will Ruby want to do that?

Oh! What if…we got a JNPR parallel to RWBY in V7CH2 where Oscar confides in JNR that he wishes to reveal the truth to Ironwood using the Relic of Knowledge but is conflicted about it? One of the JNR members then prompts Oscar with the question on whether he spoke to Ruby regarding his decision.

This now brings me to my Pinehead headcanon where Ruby and Oscar meet alone and get into one big argument over their differing sentiments on trusting Ironwood with the whole truth. 

In the end, Oscar begrudgingly returns the Relic to Ruby before parting ways with her implying that he was going to leave the team because of her; or something to that liking. 

My rationale for wanting a plot point like this is due to its connection to the Little Prince story where the Prince left his home planet after growing frustrated with his rose. 

Since the Prince left because of his rose, I considered something like that happening with Oscar where he decides to either leave the team again or just Ruby in general out of his disappointment and frustration with her recent choice of actions and attitude towards such actions. 

So the little barn prince takes himself out of the equation and abandons his little red rose, returning the Relic to her because he wasn’t prepared to be the one to do to Ruby what she did to Ozpin back in V6. 

Nor did he have the heart to watch her become someone else he didn’t recognize. Or something alone those lines.

 As I’ve said before, I don’t wish for Oscar to go behind Ruby’s back and tattle on her to the General. I would actually hate it if the PLOT made Oscar do that to Ruby since, I don’t think Oscar would ever do that to her. We all saw how shattered Oz was following the ordeal and I’m certain Oscar felt his pain and sadness in that moment too despite not being in control. 

So forgive me if this squiggle meister just can’t fathom Oscar putting Ruby through that. In my mind, he would NEVER. Not to her. 

Instead what I’m banking on is a chain reaction of events that result in Oscar convincing Ruby that coming clean about the whole truth to their Atlesian Allies about Salem is the right call so that she could reveal the truth herself. 

Ruby is the one responsible for planting the group in potential hot water with James after she lied the first time; possibly on Oscar’s behalf which was admittedly bold of her since Oscar didn’t exactly ask her to do that for him.

 If the truth is to be revealed, it has to come from Ruby. Heck, perhaps …she and Oscar can both tell the General the truth together since, as I said, the Rosebuds are the drivers of this subplot. 

It still really bothers me how the heroes (most  of them anyways) really believe that lying to James—the man confirmed to be paranoid about being betrayed by those closest to him—- is a good call especially after the events of V6.

I’m even more stunned at Qrow. Qrow knows James probably a lot better than Ruby does and after what happened with Oz back in Argus, it honestly baffles me how complacent Qrow is being about keeping the truth from James especially after he went through an ordeal where he was devastated by truth after being unaware of it for years. It just doesn’t make sense to me at all.

But going back to Ren and Nora now, as I’ll reiterate I think Ren’s behaviour is about growing stronger. 

Back in V5, Ren was the one to question how the heroes were going to win the fight against Salem if she can’t be killed. That was mainly his reaction to the truth while Jaune and Nora most responded in anger.

“…If Salem can’t be killed, then how are we supposed to win this?” 

Seriously, we haven’t seen such a fire in Ren’s eyes since V4 against the Nuckelavee and his whole history with the beast that killed his family and destroyed his home village. So I’m assuming his key story for V7 will be bettering himself as a warrior for the people around him and for the upcoming war with Salem and the chaos that will happen once the truth comes out to the General and the rest of Remnant.

Those are my thoughts on that for now.

What’s the point of being a spy if you aren’t going to take every opportunity to be extra as fuck, anyway?

Or: the one where Rey and Ben have perfected their Power Couple exit strategy.

This is probably not going to go the way you think (it certainly did not go the way I thought it would), but here’s a modern AU ficlet inspired by that TRoS teaser scene anyway.

The street is completely silent save for the occasional gust of sharp October air blowing through with a wail. Inside the darkened skyscraper, not a single alarm has been tripped and not a single guard has abandoned their patrol route to go investigate a break-in they won’t learn about until the next morning at the very earliest.

“Yet another job well done,” Poe compliments his crew as they emerge from the loading bay’s side entrance, holding a hand out for their spoils. Finn drops four flash drives into his supervisor’s waiting hand with a grin.

“Couldn’t have done it without Rey here,” he points out just as Rey locks the door behind her, careful to leave everything just as they’d found it. “What did I tell you? Didn’t I tell you she’s the best? And you didn’t wanna believe me.”

Poe shakes his head with a rueful laugh. “Hey, standard protocol,” he tells Rey. “I can’t just go around contracting every lone wolf Finn here recommends. But you’ve definitely lived up to the hype.”

Rey steps closer to the group as her hand slides into her jacket pocket, activating the little beacon sewn into the lining. “Thanks, I guess? It wasn’t anything special, really–”

“Nothing special?” Rose, the third member of their barebones crew, sputters in disbelief. “Rey, we’ve been trying to get through that encryption for months. The way you sliced through all of it in minutes–”

“You should know that Rose here isn’t easily impressed,” Poe cuts in. “And neither am I. But after tonight, you’ve more than proven yourself to the team. And we could really use someone like you, if you’re interested.”

The offer takes her by surprise. Just once, peanut, Finn had begged on the phone. A one-off, I promise, and then you can go back to doing whatever it is you’re up to these days–

She turns to him now to find him with a hopeful, beseeching look on his face that’s entirely too familiar. But while those big, pleading eyes might have worked on her when they were children, too much has changed in the years since for her to even consider this. “I’m flattered, really, but–”

“You don’t need to make up your mind now,” Rose chimes in. “Just think about it, okay? It’s dangerous for a lone operative out there.”

Poe nods in agreement. “Even the best of us could use someone to watch our backs every now and then.”

Finn steps forward. “They’re right, peanut. You know I worry about you being all alone–”

The rest of his sentence is drowned out by the cacophony of an approaching chopper, and all three members of the Resistance pale as they look up to find the helicopter coming closer and closer towards them, until Rose’s unzipped bomber jacket flaps in the artificial wind while strands of Poe’s hair break free from his carefully-styled coif.

Poe raises his voice to be heard above the din. “It’s heading right for us! Split up, team!”

Rose and Finn obey with a moment’s hesitation, all three of them racing off in separate directions without so much as a look back at the perceived threat until–

“Rey, what are you doing?” Finn demands, turning back to her with fear in his eyes.

The helicopter casts a shadow over her as it flies by, and Rey gives Finn a smile as she readies herself. “It was nice to see you again, peanut. I’ll call you sometime!”

And with that, Rey breaks into a sprint just as a coil of rope spills out from the chopper that hovers just fifty feet overhead, dangerously low unless the pilot knows what they’re doing.

Her husband knows exactly what he’s doing.

After all, they’ve had months of practice.

The rope ladder falls effortlessly into her waiting hand, the helicopter holding steady even as Rey takes the first step up. As soon as she’s secured herself on the first rung she turns back to wave goodbye to Finn and his team, Poe and Rose having returned to his side as soon as they realized they weren’t in any danger.

The concern on Finn’s face gives way first to understanding, and then amusement. “Why the fuck do you have to be so extra?” he yells up at her with a grin, the last of his words barely discernible to her ears as the helicopter slowly gains altitude. They should – and could – be ascending much faster than this, but Ben has a thing about not wanting her to dangle more than a hundred feet above ground.

Guided by expert hands, the chopper gracefully weaves around the obstacles in their path, careful not to make any sudden movements that might fling the ladder – and Rey – into the side of a skyscraper. She climbs up with practiced ease, shutting her eyes against the stinging night air that sways her side to side. It’s a shame, really, that she can’t just stay like this for the rest of the ride, but she knows that every second she spends dangling from the helicopter is a minute shaved off of Ben’s life.

A fond smile tugs at her lips as Rey shakes her head at her worrywart, and not one minute later she’s flinging herself into the helicopter and pulling the ladder back up. She doesn’t allow herself a look at Ben until the door slides shut, and even then she’s afforded only a glimpse of his back from his spot in the cockpit.

He keeps his eyes trained straight ahead as Rey slips into her seat and pulls on her headset.

“Hi, honey.”

Finally, Ben turns to her with a smirk. “Hey, sweetheart. Did you have fun with your band of rebels and traitors?”

Rey rolls her eyes at him. “You do realize you’re just as much of a traitor as Finn is, right? You both abandoned FO.”

Saying that still sends a little thrill down her spine even now, even when she goes to bed every night with Ben safely by her side rather than hidden away in some underground bunker with his shady, manipulative boss.

“That’s different,” he insists.

“Really now?”

“FN left because he was a coward,” Ben says with a shrug, though the words have been drained of their bite after all this time. “I left for love.”

He spares her another quick look then, his earlier smirk quickly melting into something infinitely more sincere.

Just three short years ago, Rey could never have fathomed a look this soft in the eyes of the world’s deadliest assassin. Now he’s her partner in crime and in life, and this is the look she’s lucky enough to wake up to every morning.

Ben smiles at her before he turns back to the sky. “Where to, sweetheart?”

Rey sinks into her seat with a smile of her own, warmth blooming in her chest as she relishes her one-word answer and all it encompasses.

“Home.”

So, funny story: I’ve been calling this my ‘backflip-inspired ficlet’ ever since I came up with the idea. And then somehow it ended up not having a single backflip?? And half of it is just Rey fielding a job offer from the elite Resistance team of Poe, Finn, and Rose??? But hey, if married spies is your thing (it’s my thing, apparently), then I hope you’ve enjoyed this.

Alrighty thank fuck for teaser clips so we know we're getting the fight in the next ep-

So hi, I'm just gonna throw out my thoughts and hopes and dreams and they're probably going to be wrong - but I don't care, it makes waiting so much easier!

Somehow Yang knows that it's Adam that has interfered with Blake (probably because they're soulmates and she can feel it, and also Blake wouldn't jeopardise the mission unless she was dealing with life or death by goatboy).

Armed and Ready basically had me thinking this whole time that it was just Yang's perspective on a nightmare, flashbacks, her memories of what happened at Beacon, but, wait- I'm stupid, it isn't talking in past tense...

My eyes are open wide, I'm racing to her side, there's nothing that I won't do for her

(Is it describing the coming showdown? Yang is determined, probably scared, but she's going to Blake because there's no way she'd let her fear of what has already happened make her leave Blake alone with Adam.

It's possible she's calling for Blake, waiting in the perfect place to ambush Adam. Trying to find a way around their problem, not through it [thanks dad]. Or, she's simply driving on Bumblebee as fast as fucking possible, yelling for Blake.

Either way, Blake's heard her and is running to her, because THAT'S FUCKING PROGRESS AND WE LOVE IT.)

But this is not a dream, my mind repeats the scene, I can't forget it and it's torture

(Now, we might have see Yang on the ground in the animatics because she's seeing flashes of Blake lying on the ground, stabbed, and it's not losing her arm she can't forget, it's Blake. Her fear is that happening again, not being able to stop it, +1million points if they actually show Yang seeing this flashback!!)

But that was before, but not anymore, I've left it behind. As much as I've lost, once I'm across I'll find

I've found the strength to grow so much more, a whisper to a roar. No more crying, it's time for me to soar

(so if this fight is about Yang finally overcoming her fear of Adam, then could we see a turning point for her? Adam being arrogant, taunting her as he's so overconfident and not even fighting, just trying to bait her again. But Blake helps her up, says they're gonna do this together. And Yang replies, quietly, that she's ready. This is their time; their time to overcome the man that ruined both their lives.

Yang will tell him that he'll wish he'd killed her, now that she's stronger. For the first time since she attacked him and lost her arm, she will use her semblance. I think I remember that crwby has actually not animated it yet because they couldn't get it to look right in the new style, so I hope they've finally worked it out to bring us the epic moment of Yang finally lighting this motherfucker UP.)

I am the golden one, that burns just like the sun, next time we meet is your disaster

I'll bring the punishment, your song will be lament, revenge my happy ever after

(honestly, this is where I'm contemplating what direction this could go in. Will Blake and Yang defeat him once and for all in this fight? Will he die, or go to prison? Is this meeting his disaster, his lament? Or will he try and escape them - because it's ironic if he turns into the one that will run away from Blake.)

I guess I'm hoping they use armed and ready, and not a new song. Yang doesn't need a new one because this one hasn't been used in the show (credits don't count), and it perfectly describes her growing into a stronger person.

I'd be perfectly fine if Jeff has written a new song, say, for Blake's feelings about Yang...that plays after the fight...so we know that feelings exist for both of them. Because obviously all that matters is Yang's heartbroken ballad, it was totally there in the score before Blake went to disable the radar.

I've basically never predicted anything correctly, and I always guessed they'd fight Adam because he had a lot of presence in this volume in his own character short, being in the opening credits, talking about Blake in the beginning of the volume and screaming lol, and it being clear that Blake and Yang being reunited would lead to addressing how they both needed to defeat him.

regardless of how it's actually going to go down, I'M READY.

The Batman May Be Even Darker Than the Trailer Suggests

The Batman made waves last year when its first trailer dropped during the inaugural DC Fandome digital event, and all eyes are on the movie once again as Warner Bros. prepares to drop a second look at the movie. Batfans would do well to keep an eye out for this Saturday’s DC Fandome 2021, which will not only feature director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson but also a second trailer for the film reboot.

But if you can’t wait that long, WB has treated us to two very tiny teasers, including a shot from the upcoming second trailer. “Can’t wait to show you more at #DCFanDome this Saturday,” wrote Reeves on Twitter, where he shared what looks like an image of Pattinson’s Dark Knight watching over his city from a Gotham rooftop as the sun goes down. He’s undoubtedly preparing to hunt some criminals.

The second teaser, released on the movie’s official Twitter handle, doesn’t any other images of the Batman for fans to fawn over until Saturday. Instead, it gives fans a taste of what kind of tone they should expect from this new take on the Caped Crusader. In short, it’s safe to say Pattinson won’t be doing the Batusi in this movie.

A lot has already been written about how dark and gritty The Batman looks. In the first trailer, shots of a clearly troubled Bruce Wayne are complemented by one particularly violent scene where the Dark Knight beats the absolute crap out of a hooligan while shouting, “I’m vengeance” into his undoubtedly bloodied face. It’s a display that freezes the rest of the gang in fear. Certainly, while big-screen Batmen have hardly been shy about maiming evil-doers in the past (and we’re not even sure what this gang was up to when Pattinson showed up; they look like kids), this may already be the most gratuitous instance of “crime-fighting” in Bat-movie history. It’s undoubtedly just a taste of what’s to come in this much darker take clearly inspired by The Crow and Se7en as well as the late Darwyn Cooke’s psychological exploration of the character in Batman: Ego.

I keep going back to the idea that the Bat signal as a “warning.” When coupled with scenes from the first trailer, it suggests that Reeves has put together something much darker than we’ve ever seen on screen — and Zack Snyder had Batman branding and killing people like an absolute maniac. Here, the Bat signal seems to mean the Dark Knight is hunting, and if you step out of line, you get sent to an emergency room.

It pushes Gary Oldman’s admission in The Dark Knight that he turns on the signal to let the criminals know the Batman is out there into the literal. He will literally punch your face in until it’s mush. It’s a big departure from recent comic book runs by writers like Scott Snyder and Tom King who have depicted the Bat signal as a symbol of hope meant to inspire Gothamites to stand strong in a crisis, a literal beacon of light in the darkness.

Who knows if the line from the promo will even pop up in the movie. It could just be some marketing for the fanboys who like their superhero dramas dark and gritty. Either way, is what we’ve seen and heard so far too dark for even the Batman?

We’ll get a better idea of what Reeves and Pattinson are going for when the new trailer drops on Saturday. The Batman hits theaters on March 4.

The Character Development of RWBY Volume 4.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR RWBY VOLUMES 1-4!

The fourth volume of Rooster Teeth’s incredibly popular CG anime was a return to form in more ways than one. Volume Four essentially served as new begining, but unlike Volume One, our story builds upon the foundations laid out for our characters. Or rather, Volume Four builds on what was left of those foundations. There are so many threads and connections made to previous volumes that they are just begging to be followed. So strap yourselves in cause this is gonna be a long one.

Starting things off we have the character short featuring Ruby Rose. This aired before the show’s fourth volume and was one hell of a teaser trailer for what was to come. Not only does the trailer demonstrate the phenomenal improvements in animation, the short also showcases how Ruby has been forced to grow in such a short time. The trailer is purposely animated to resemble Ruby’s debut in the Red trailer, even the music bares a striking similarity with an albeit ominous tone. But of course this time around many things are different. The cliff Ruby stands over looks a burning town that has become a grave for many as opposed to the grave of Summer Rose. Instead of fighting Grimm to defend herself, Ruby is now fighting to protect others. Not only that, but Ruby’s fighting style has dramatically changed. She shows much more restraint and control with her weapon and doesn’t show off. In the Red trailer, Ruby occasionally took off a Grimm’s arm or leg before finishing them. But instead of showing off her flair in combat, Ruby now carefully aligns her strikes and every attack is lethal. She is no longer fighting simply because she loves being a Huntress. After the events of Volume 3, Ruby’s innocence was completely shattered leaving her to face reality. She now understands exactly what it means to be a huntress. And at the very end of the trailer, we see Ruby smile as she anticipates her next fight, showing that she still is able to keep her head high in these dark situations. A trait that will definitely show itself in the early duration of Volume Four.

Cut to episode one. While the episode itself doesn’t have much in the way of deep moments. The one standout moment is of course Jaune’s new arsenal. This new set of gear is a very respectful nod to Phyrra and also shows how Jaune has been coping with her loss. Though what we see on the surface doesn’t necessarily reflect what is hiding within. While the first episode does give us a triumphant return to the series, it's the second episode that begins to hit us hard with the harsh reality of the world of Remnant. We have seen circumstances before where the characters faced scenarios where not everyone could be saved, but it was never to such an extent as shown in the villages that team RNJR travels through. But the highlight of episode two brings us back to Jaune, a man who paid for his sin of ignorance. In Volume Three, many characters lost something. But very few characters were punished as severely as Jaune. He was ignorant for a whole three seasons. He turned a blind eye to Phyrra’s  genuine affection and it was something that those of us watching never looked twice at. But when she finally died at the hands of Cinder, Jaune’s ignorance held much greater meaning. Jaune’s late night training is one of the heaviest hitting moments in Volume Four. It shows just how hard Jaune has taken the loss, but also how much he is struggling to recover from the revelation of his ignorance towards Phyrra, and his lack of a second chance.

One other character that suffered a great ammount was one of my personal favorites. Yang’s loss of limb has become a center point for her character and the cross she has been forced to bear in result of her own hubris. Later on in the Volume, Tai mentions to Yang that her whole fighting style was built around using her semblance to solve every problem. But what would happen when that semblance collided with one of similar strength or if she just wasn’t strong enough. Yang believed she was practically invincible, it is a common trope we see in characters with an ability such as her’s. But the way that trope was broken painted Yang in a brand new light. The character who definitely was depicted as one of the strongest in team RWBY, and also served as moral support during Volume 2, is now suffering from problems of her own. The trauma she went through is featured heavily throughout the story. Yang can’t even look at a shattered glass without having flashbacks. Our once unmovable bastion has crumbled. However, one of the highlights of Yang’s development comes from episode four. In said episode, Tai makes a joke about Yang’s loss which leaves everyone, even the viewer in silence. But, something strange happens. Yang starts to laugh. A lot of people might get a little irritated about a scene like this. However, it is one of the strongest points in development for Yang. Humor is an essential part in recovery. Making jokes about the past, no matter how dark allows us to accept the past and move on. It reminds us that we are still here and that what happened in the past is just that, the past. Simply put, the past doesn’t matter.

Meanwhile back with our protagonist we get to see her struggle to hold on to those close to her. It is apparent that Ruby’s involvement led to Qrow’s wound from Tyrian. This rehashes a very old conversation seen throughout the story, especially during Volume 2. When Ruby starts blaming herself for what happened to Qrow, Jaune reassures her that it is not her fault, when the evidence says otherwise. But unlike in previous iterations of this discussion, it is never combatted. Sometimes a person needs a little delusion in order to keep themselves focused. Soldiers often go through rigorous training to suppress their fear response. Ruby couldn’t afford to allow her attachment to Qrow and her self doubt get her down. Jaune understood that as a strategist and took the best course of action to keep his ally on track. It was a small detail, but an interesting one nonetheless. Ruby as a character has shown more leadership in this volume than ever before and her speech in final episode  is one of the most mature moments she has ever shown in the entire series. By the end of Volume Four it is clear that Ruby is ready to take up the responsibility that she has to uphold now.

And now I get to address the elephant in the room. Ren and Nora. These two have had the largest amount of story development and it is more than worth it. Ren and Nora were characters that we knew almost nothing about. Their story was dropped in small hints throughout the Volumes. For instance, the rant Nora has at the beginning of Volume 3. Nora casually drops the fact that she and Ren were both orphans. Throughout Volume Four we get more and more insight into just who these two were and where they came from. This is especially true from Ren’s side of things as he constantly lets his emotions take hold of him. It is clear that being home isn’t exactly the most entertaining idea for him. After all, this is someone who ran away from home to be a huntsmen. This is probably his first time being back in Anima since he arrived at Beacon, if not earlier. From the appearance of bizarre footprints in ruined cities, to the tension emanating from Ren with each village team RNJR visits it is clear that Ren has a lot of unresolved issues in Anima. Everything ultimately comes to a head with episode ten where we finally see what has been plaguing Ren and Nora’s past. I won’t spoil it here but I think Ren has been dealing with most trauma out of all the characters in terms of longevity. Finally seeing Ren and Nora face their fears was a great moment and the parallels shown between the fight against that fear and the day they both lost their home were strong devices to keep the moment as impactful as the other great moments in Volume Four. The backstory of Ren and Nora definitely served as one of the big highlights of this season and I do hope that we get to see more backstories appear in the forefront as we head further into the series.

It seems every time a new Volume of RWBY airs, it surpasses its predecessor. RWBY is by far one of Rooster Teeth’s best works and it gets better with each installment. I am almost too hyped for next year and Volume Five. I will more than likely be doing a few more articles for RWBY so do keep an eye out for them.

For being “a like-minded soul” Oscar and Ozpin sure are pretty opposite. From their appearance and profession to the way Oscar wears his heart on his sleeve while Oz is fond of his secrets — have they ever even once agreed on anything? Do you think Oscar might be Ozpin’s foil?

Concept for Oscar’s Characer Short 

HmmI’ve actually considered the times where the plot didn’t focus on them feudingwith each other and instead showed them compromising or coming to someagreement on something to be the closest thing to them being in agreement my Captain.

Let’snot forget that Oscar is only a teenager. He’s just fourteen years old.Fourteen is often described as the age where a child is now starting to developinto a young adult. At this age, teenagers are more or less impressionable and might be a lot more rebellious to rationalizewith than an adult. We saw an example of this back in V5 when Oscar wasunwilling to cooperate with Ozpin at first.

Westill don’t know what transpired to finally convince Oscar that leaving homewas the best option. I strongly disliked that the CRWBY Writers glossed overthis part since it could have helped fill the holes still left in Oscar’s sideof the story and provide the audience into a deeper insight on how he thinks.

Ifanything this is a question I can see answered in a possible future RWBY CharacterShort that focuses on both Professor Ozpin and Oscar.

IfI had to envision what a Man with Two Souls Character Trailer would look like, then I can see that short startingoff with the aftermath of the Cinder vs. Professor Ozpin duel, revealingexactly how Ozpin got killed. This could then lead into how Ozpin got paired upwith Oscar.

MyPineheadheadcanon is that Oscar dreamt ofthe night Professor Ozpin died during the Battle of Beacon andthat’s how the two were first paired together. I described this theory of minein full detail in RWBY Musing #61. Thegist of it was that Oscar basically had a similar experience to Young Sora from Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. When Ozpin died,his soul unexpectedly connected with that of Oscar Pine although Oscar mainlyviewed it as all a dream. A dream where he was walking through the remnants ofa burning vault being led by a mysterious voice who was begging for help.

Inhis dream, Oscar met Ozpin who needed help and being the good-natured soul thathe was, Oscar agreed to aid Ozpin and that’s when the two were fused. But sinceit was a dream, the next morning when Oscar woke up with a start, he had norecollection of the event.

The next time he isreminded of Ozpin is when Ozpin speaks to him the first time. Another headcanon I have is that Oscar didn’t just ups and leave home without his aunt’sknowledge. I’d like to at least hope that Aunt Em or whatever hercanon name will be (granted we ever learn of it at all) is fully aware that hernephew left home to go train to be a huntsman.

Asa matter of fact, my hunch is that Oscar, not wishing to lie to his auntie,actually tried to tell her that he wanted to leave home to go to Mistral.However, Aunt Em being overprotective ofher young nephew forbade Oscar to leave home voicing the dangers of the outsideworld and that it would be much better if Oscar stayed home where he could besafe.

Andat first, Oscar complied with his Aunt Em not wishing to upset her any furtherdespite Ozpin’s disapproval. It wasn’t until one of those occasional small Grimm that Oscar mentioned back in V5 wandered onto theirfarm on night did Aunt Em realize the error of her words.

Bymy imagination, let’ssay one night while his Aunt Em wasoutside, a wild Alpha Beowulf and it’s pack wandered onto the farm. Usuallywhen the Grimm arrive, Oscar and Aunt Em would either shoot them down if theywere small fry or hide away in the barn if they were too menacing. Usually ifthey’re lucky they always get the single Grimm. However this particular night—witha full moon lingering in the night sky, an entire pack arrived. Unfortunatelyfor the Pines, they could neither hide nor shoot the Beowolves.  Oscar and his aunt were outnumberedand completely outmatched and if Oscar didn’t do something, they’d bothbe killed.

So in a daring feat,Oscar bravely challenges the wolves to protect his family and home despite hisaunt’s outcries of fear. Of course, in the end, Oscar is easily overpowered.The entire time, Ozpin is yelling inside Oscar’s mind to allow the old soul toaid the young boy.

But Oscar stubbornly ignores him still trying to do it on his own. Itwas only when a wolf had Aunt Em by the throat did Oscar finally give intoOzpin’s assistance sparking the very first moment the two switched souls. In asimilar fashion to Ozma’s first encounter with the Grimm in his second life as Diggs,Ozpin easily relinquished all of the Beowolves. Not a single one was left torun away as Ozpin decimated them all.

Theentire time this is happening, Aunt Em just stared; completely awestruck.From her perspective she saw Oscar taking downthe wolves and not the century’s old experienced huntsman possessing his body.Once the fight was over, Ozpin’s limit is up and he recedes back into Oscar’shead. And as soon as he does, Oscar collapses and since his body wasn’t used tothe overexertion he falls unconscious withAunt Em immediately rushing to his side.

Thenext day, Oscar wakes up to find himself resting on the couch in his aunt’shouse. As he is adjusting, Aunt Em brings him some supper. Apparently thespectacle from the night before had left Oscar so fatigued that he nearly sleptthe whole next day. The two then have a talk; what would be one of their last conversations.Basically it ends with Aunt Em giving Oscar her blessing to leave to home;implying that she’s always looked out for him because that’s the promise shemade to Oscar’s mother after she took him in.

However Aunt Emunderstood that Oscar wasn’t a child anymore. He was growing up and part ofgrowing up is leaving the nest to forge your own path. Aunt Em understood thatshe couldn’t keep Oscar sheltered all the time but what she could do was givehim the chance to go learn to take care of himself. In a nutshell, Aunt Em toldOscar that it he wanted to go be a huntsman then he was free to leave; just solong as he writes to her from time to time just to ease her heart on how he wasdoing. Oscar makes this promise and he and his aunt share a hug before spendingtheir last night together as a family.

Youknow that shot of Oscar looking back at the barn before adjusting his backpackand leaving back in V4? Well I’d like to think that he wasn’t just looking backat the barn but also his Aunt Pine who had woken up in time to see him leave.So as Oscar goes, she wipes one tear from her face before giving him one silentwave goodbye.

Oscar then makes hisdeparture and the rest as we know is history. The scene then cuts to thepresent day where our heroes are docking in Atlas. As everyone piles out of theairship to enter into the kingdom, Oscar takes a minute to look back at the nightsky.

Asof now, he is further from home than he’d ever been in his life and in thatmoment, his mind thought of his Aunt Em. He flashes back to a memory of him andhis aunt sitting together on their front porch enjoying some dessert and eachother’s company as they viewed the lovely sky—the same sky Oscar was lookingat.

Atthis point Ruby notices Oscar’s pause. She calls out to him and touches hisshoulder lightly which stirs him from his absentmindedness. Ruby being Ruby asks Oscar if he was okay. He gives her the answershe would expect—a nonchalant yes of reassurance. Ruby then puts two and twotogether and asks Oscar if being in Atlas is making him think of home.

Oscar’sresponse this time is:

“…A littlebit but…I’m right where I need tobe.”

 Hethen smiles at Ruby who returns the gesture. She then places a hand on Oscar’sshoulder and together, the two walk into Atlas for the start of their nextadventure.

That’show I would envision A Man with Two Souls orOzpin-Oscar or even OZ-Car Character Short. It would be perfect if the nextcharacter trailer for V7 is one for Oscar and Ozpin. It’d be interesting if wereceived two new character trailers for V7.

I’mstill banking on their being a time skip for the start of V7, just speed thingsup a bit. According to a teaser from Barbara Dunklemen, our heroes are expected to getnew duds for the Atlas Trilogy, as expected. So what better way to debut thoseduds than a Character Trailer featuring all the RWBY Girls.

Idunno, I’d personally love to see a A Man with Two Souls or Oscar Character Short coupledtogether with a new RWBY Character Short which also doubles as a Team STRQ shortsince it focuses on the parallels between both teams. I think as of V6, we needa STQR backstory particularly featuring Summer Rose. Having the ole Team STRQbe featured alongside their modern counterparts in Team RWBY would be a sweetdebut. But these are just my ideas.

Anyways,getting back on track. To answer your second question about Oscar being Ozpin’sfoil. Well…yes and no? I’d actually like to believe their eachother’s foil.

Asyou rightfully put it, Oscar wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s led by his emotions.But get this…so was Ozma. Ozma and essentially all the Wizards are the stoicbeings they’ve become purely based on the tough lesson that Ozma learnt thefirst time he allowed his heart to guide his judgements.

InV6,Ozpin told the heroes that he has his reasons for the secrets he keeps givenwhat he experienced in the past. Perhaps this iswhy Ozpin would prefer to be in control most of the time since he sees alot of Ozma—the original Ozma in Oscar. Oscar is a likeminded soul. Too much so and hisadolescent age doesn’t help cipher Ozpin’s concerns. A perfect example of thisis back in V5 during the Hazel fight.

Oscar’sstubborn unwillingness to step back and allow Oz to take the reigns admittedlyalmost got the two of them killed.

Asmuch Oscar wanted to prove to himself and possibly Oz that he could do this onhis own, he was behaving rather irrational at the same time given the fact thattheir opponent was leagues stronger than him. In spite of Oscar’s own attemptsto reason with Hazel, in the end, his actions still failed to convince Hazel tostand down which in turn forced Ozpin’s hand.

Itwasn’t pleasant seeing Ozpin force control away from Oscar but the argument couldbe made that it was the sensible move to the make given the circumstance. Ozhad no choice but to take control otherwise Hazel would’ve killed them both;mainly Oscar since Oz would’ve just reincarnated.

Ironically,a similar scenario to this one happened in V6 with the reverse parallel ofOscar forcing control away from Ozpin. When Ozpin proved to be resistant indisclosing the truth about the Relic of Knowledge to the team, Oscar’s hand wasforced this time when Oz made an attempt to possibly relinquish the Relic fromRuby by force.

Oz isn’t exactly aviolent man but it wouldn’t surprise me if part of the reason Oscar retaliatedagainst him was because he sensed his intentions should Ruby continue to resisthanding the Relic back to him. I think Oz was about to force theRelic from Ruby which in turn caused Oscar to intervene for her well-being. Italso wouldn’t surprise me if Oscar pried the knowledge about Jinn from Ozpinduring his moment of vulnerability while the two were locked in a hold forcontrol.  

As we saw, Ozpin is just as much an emotional creature ashis predecessors. He’s just been bottling up everything for so long that thefirst time his walls are broken down, exposed by the very secrets he’s tried touphold, the most he can do is cry.

Despiteeverything that happened in V6 C2 and C3, I honestly felt really sorry forOzpin during V6C4. It’s the most defeated we’veever seen him and what hurts—what STILL hurts is that Ozpin has always been aman who has accepted everyone around him, flaws and all regardless of theirpast sins.

ForPete’s sake, Blake is a Faunus who used to hide the fact that she was a Faunusand her status as a former member of the White Fang. I’d like to believe thatOzpin knew of this yet still accepted her.

Butthe one time Ozpin is vulnerable not asingle person takes pity on him. Not a single person tries to understand wherehe was coming or shows him the same level of compassion and empathy he’s giventhem.

No.Every Tom, Dick,Harry and Jane just focused on the Salem’s immortality (which wasn’tOzpin or Ozma’s doing by the way, mind you) bit completely ignoring everythingelse.

Ozmawas a man who died and wasn’t allowed to rest in peace because a) his former love interest was too selfish to let himgo and challenged the Gods to get him back and b) the Gods thought the sensiblepunishment to grant someone who clearly was willing to strike them down if theydidn’t submit to her whim was making this person invincible and unable to be killed.Smart.

Ifanything, Ozma and essentially all the Wizards of Light are the scapegoats to a War that was essentially more between Salem andthe Brother Gods. Ozma was just made a pawn to the God’swhims—I mean a defender of humanity.

Iwill never get over the fact that Ozma was resurrected to basically play janitor to clean up the mess the Gods created with Salem tocounter the mess that Salem made with the Gods. This is why I sympathized withOzma during those three lifetimes as Ambroise (the Tarnished),Emmanuel (the Drunkard)and Isaac (the Hermit)where he just gave up.

Idon’t blame him. This really wasn’t his fight but he was made a part of it bythe God of Light and that in turn made every person that the Wizards haverecruited over the years a part of the war too.

Huh…interesting.Salem always made it seem as if Oz was responsible for their feud when thereality was that he was a by-product of her deceit. It’s ironic. Salem may beimmortal and all powerful but she’s really such a blind villainess. She is sooblivious to her own selfishness that she can’t even see that everything that’shappened is evidently all her doing.

Thisis all started with her. She was the one who tried to trick to Gods and gotpunished for it. She was the one who caused all of humanity to be wiped out alongwith the Gods abandoning Remnant. She was the one who caused the Gods to resurrectOzma to fix the mess she made. And now, Ozma is the man he is because of her.

Salemessentially made Ozma—Ozpin—allthe Wizards of Light the men that they are. She made her own true adversary. Butshe doesn’t see it that way. She’s never been the type to reconsider heractions and see the error of her ways. If anything, Salem is like White Diamond from Steven Universe. They’re both so forgone in theirways that it was considered futile to try and change them. However, as I saw ofthe Change Your Mind Steven Universe Special, White Diamond was ultimatelyredeemed for the better. Will Salem go through the same fate? Only Miles andKerry know the answer to that.

Goingback to the Wizards. What’s interesting to note was that Ozma did give up onhis mission on more than one occasion but each time, something always comesback to remind him of his duty to the world.

 I’d like to believethat thing is hope.Hope is such a powerful thing to the Wizards. When the chips are down andeverything goes to shit, hope is all youhave to go on to possibly grant you the inspiration you need to get back upagain. No one knows this lesson better than Oz and his wizarding brothers.

Iwonder if being deep inside Oscar’s mind, Oz will learn that even young Oscarhas painful secrets of his own. I’d like to think that both Oscar andOzpin have lost people they once loved. Since Ozpin is the current embodimentof the WizardPersona, he has all the memories ofhis past selves and views them as his own.

Ozma’spain throughout the years—the loss of his love and children as well as thehardships of his brethren, they are now Ozpin’s to bear and feel the burden of.

Asfor Oscar, I believe Oscar has a bit of tragic past that involved how and why he came to live with his aunt.In my head, I think Oscar has watched people who he loved and helped shape hislife disappear and leave him. First it was the father he never got to meet,then it was the mother who raised for most of his life who he loved more than anythingin the world that was unceremoniously stripped away from him too soon. And allthis leads into a fulltime life with an uncle who was more of a father to himthan his real one—a great man who taught Oscar how to be a brave boy in aterrifying world that the women in his life tried to shield him from. Thisuncle was also the strongest person Oscar knew but unfortunately that strengthwasn’t enough to save the ole soul from the severe heart attack that claimedhis life for Oscar to discover when he was barely over the loss of his mom.

Andall of that culminates in the sudden departure from the one family member Oscarhad left and the one home that’s been consistent throughout his life. At least…that’smy headcanon for Oscar’s past but…y’know I’m not Miles and Kerry so who knowswhat they have for Oscar.

Mypoint is, Oscar and Ozpin are the perfect foils to each other and if theylearnt to see past the issues that still keep them apart, their dynamic wouldbe so much better. Oscar needs to learn to trust Ozpin more and Ozpin needs tolearn how to be more of a guide to Oscar than a controller.

Overall,I believe part of Ozpin and Oscar’s potential development will be learning towork together in harmony. Not as one mind in control while the other staysback. Not even one mind in control while the other tells him what to do. But asone perfect unit.

Building on your answer to Carrot’s theory, imagine if the next character short is a STRQ flashback. Like, them working together on a mission, all together and happy in the early days, and then in the end it pans to Qrow (or maybe to that long awaited Raven and Taiyang moment from last volume) in their current day situation. I really just want a clear comparison between Summer and Ruby through Qrow’s perspective!!!

Same fam. Same. I would actually love aSTRQ CharacterShort. I’d be the first time the CRWBY attempted to create a shortfor anotherhuntsmen team apart from our main girlsquad. I like the idea of other teams ultimately gaining their own shorts that revealmore about their past and relationship. I could definitely see a SSSN Charactershort or maybe even a CFVY Character short once the team head for Shade Academyin the Vacuo Arc.

However, once V6 concludes, I can certainly see a STRQ Character Short possibly in the making because it has to bedone now, right? I mean after all the breadcrumbs and titbits droppedregarding the STRQ team within the entirety of the Mistral Arc, they gotta do aSTRQ Short next. I feel like that’s mandatory at this point.

If not STRQ then at least a Qrow Branwen Short whichshares details on his past with Raven growing up in the Branwen Tribe amongstkillers and thieves, his past as part of Team STRQ both before and after their school days at Beacon Academy finally endingwith the night Summer died.

If we don’t get a STRQ short then at least one for Qrow.If I had to guess which RWBY Character might be slotted for their own shortfollowing Adam’s, Qrow is my number one pick.

But if the CRWBY start doing team Character shortsthen I’d hope the first short is STRQ. They are long overdue at this point especially with your mention of the V5 finale aftercredit teaser hinting at Raven and Tai reconciling which wasn’t followed up in V6.

Second to a STRQCharacter Short, I’d love for a future JNPR Character Short. The CRWBY surprised me thisvolume with that homage to Pyrhha’s sacrifice from V3 with her memorial statue inArgus (speaking of which, I hope the statue doesn’t get destroyed during the GrimmzillaAttack for the V6 finale).

Nonetheless, I’d still love for a JNPR CharacterShort mainly because I’ve been gunning for V6 to end with Jaune asking Oscar to join up with JNR sothat Team JNPR can be revived. I feel like it’s definitelyin the cards since this season has been dropping a lot of hints with Oscar being withJNR.

I mean the V6 opening even featured him togetherwith JNR. If this isn’t a clear sign that Oscar is going to join them then Idon’t know what is.

So yeah, I’d love for a future JNPR Character Short whichfeatures the original JNPR team with Jaune, Nora and Ren working together withPyrhha, touching base on untold details such as what happened after JNR learnedthat Pyrhha had been killed. All before wrapping up with a transition topresent day where JNPR has been revived with Oscar on the team and is proving himselfwell to be a nice addition to the group.

I’d love for a JNPR Short that’s exactly like that.I’d especially love a JNPR Short even more if it showcase Jaune having maturedmore into an excellent leader and what could be even better is we got JNPR officialtag-team moves. Remember how awesome that looked back in V2 and Jaune tried to mimic that inV3 but it failed. Picture seasons later, Jaunetrying the team attacks again and it’s actually leagues better this time (partiallydue in favour to Oscar helping Jaune come but with better team names thistime).  

If we don’t get that STRQ Short then I’d favour aJNPR Short. If we can only get one Character short per volume then my bets areon a Qrow Branwen/STRQ Character Short or a JNPR Character short.Or both if the CRWBY are feeling adventurous since V7 is the start of a brandnew arc. So who knows what they might do to commence the Atlas Trilogy especially coming off of V6.

RWBY Remarks: For what it’s worth, I’m not only hoping that V6 tells a great story to conclude the Mistral Arc but I’m praying it’s a longer enough season for the CRWBY to tell the narrative they teased in the promotional content.

Between Adam Taurus Development and his possible vendetta against the Brotherhood and his former brothers and sisters of the White Fang who betrayed him after the Triumph of Haven.

The Aftermath of the Triumph of Haven (How will the general public of Mistral take the circulating news of their local huntsmen academy being attacked just like Beacon in Vale especially when orchestrated by the White Fang? How will the Mistral Council handle the news of the attack along with Leonardo Lionheart’s death? I don’t think an attack led by a known terrorist organization of Faunus is going to sit well with the public of Mistral especially when the truth of the former Headmaster of Haven Academy, who was also a Faunus is revealed as well? This has bound to have some repercussions between the Mistral Council and the Brotherhood of Faunus stationed in Mistral so I’m expecting some more Faunus politics).

Figuring out how the group is going to get to Atlas from Mistral given that the Kingdom has closed off its borders thanks to Ironwood---a detail that only Weiss is knowledgeable about so I hope the CRWBY Writers don’t neglect that little detail since it’s an important tie in set up since V4.

Dealing with Ozpin because based on the end of V5 and the teaser poster, I don’t think Ozpin ‘resting’ is going to be a simple matter. Dealing with trust issues involving Ozpin because as teased in the V6 poster, it doesn’t seem like Weiss and Yang are on Ozpin’s side so there may be some tension in Team RWBY involving Oscar.

Oscar’s feelings towards Ozpin and his objections after what transpired in Haven---what Ozpin did during their fight, not to mention what Hazel told him of the old wizard during their match.

Speaking of Hazel, the aftermath of what became of him, Emerald and Mercury after escaping. I doubt those three returned to Salem so does this mean that they’re on the run now or at least in hiding like Adam?

Backstory for Ozpin and Salem. Cinder returning from the dead. Development for Oscar in and outside of his predicament with Ozpin. The appearance of the Manticore Grimm.

…There is a lot to cover next volume.

Either V6 will have to have more episodes or the episodes will have to be longer in duration.

Not sure if we’ll ever get a season of RWBY that crosses 20 episodes. Heck I’d love a season of RWBY that’s 26 episodes. 

Heck I’d love it if V6 was divided into 2 parts (A and B) and we get one part this year leading into early 2019 and the other part near Summer 2019 while V7 is pushed to 2020. 

But thinking realistically, I’m banking on V6 being hopefully 16-18 episodes or more. We haven’t had a 16 episode season of RWBY since V1 and I’m not even sure if that counts since most of V1 were chockfull of episodes less than 7 minutes long.

As I said, there is a lot of important details to be covered for V6 and I’m praying that the season is long and paced enough to cover them all.

I sincerely hope that the CRWBY Writers didn’t bamboozle the FNDM with an Adam Character short teasing that he will be villain for the next volume only to not have Adam show up at all during V6 until like the end in the after credit scene teasing that he’ll actually be returning in V7 or in a much later arc when the team have to head to Vacuo or something.

Don’t hint at Oscar getting development finally only for him to be side-lined again as more emphasis is placed on Ozpin…somehow?

Whatever the CRWBY promised between the character trailer and the V6 poster, I hope it’s done and done well. 

On another note, I’m really excited for the sneak preview of V6. My guess is that it’ll probably be a clip from the first episode that will probably lead into a trailer of some sort because we haven’t gotten a trailer for V6 surprisingly. Perhaps we’ll see at the RWBY and GEN: LOCK panel at NYCC.
