God. I’d say they absolutely nailed the design, personality and purpose for the supporting cast role she filled. Far more bearable and engaging than most of the Glasgow Gang faffing about unfortunately.
The weather never stopped us once during our trip however, a few judicious stops to let a rainy moment pass was warranted in my unlooked for estimation. A half dozen times the rain began suddenly and unlike most, we usually didn’t seek the shelter of a nearby store front nor did we carry umbrellas like others who didn’t stop for the rain. We kept going even though we could have waited five or ten minutes at most and the rain would stop as suddenly as it started. We were wearing rain jackets with hoods and usually it was enough.
Once I was struggling to keep my hood up as we ran, for no good reason I could fathom, directly into the rain and wind. I had Auds (Audrey) on my hip and she was well covered but with only one hand free, I couldn’t get my hood secured. Suddenly an umbrella appeared over me. I looked over in confusion to see a young man and woman hurrying to keep up. They’d noticed me struggling. I imagined it was the woman who took notice and prompted her man to cover me carrying a child instead of her.
In some ways the rain enhanced the experience for me. I like the rain. It’s just one of a hundred ways that D and I are opposites. I know it likely kept many people inside or at home resulting in smaller crowds to contend with. The cool temperatures also kept me more comfortable as I carried Auds in hilly Porto and on the uneven cobblestone streets of Belgium towns. Also the way light softens and interacts with surfaces glistening wet gives a whole different look to the things we came to see. I recommend Europe in the Fall.
Last night I slept in my own bed. That’s the best and something on which D and I completely agree.
I will continue to post pics and thoughts on this trip. It occurs to me it might (have already) become boring to others but this is my blog and the things I put here are for me first and foremost. Now that tumblr abbreviates long posts it’s easy to skip past things that aren’t interesting.
Hmmm… I’m bored at work, there’s a giant winter storm passing over (and no, there’s no snow, my state is weird so it’s just rain) and *puke* Starbucks is still open.
What if since my company wants to waste my time… I waste theirs by telling y’all about lore?
