Unpopular Phase 4 & 5 Opinions
Quantumania is the worst Phase 4/5 movie. And it wasn’t even because “kang got beat by ants.” (I liked kang in this movie). It’s just that the Spy Kids aesthetic & bad acting & overall weird vibes just weren’t for me.
Love and Thunder is no worse than Ragnarok. I would argue that it’s better in a lot of ways, actually. I really liked it.
Taika Waititi ruined thor with bad humour all the way back in Ragnarok tbh, but y’all weren’t complaining about it then 😒.
BuckySarah is better than sambucky every day of the week.
The Marvels was a good ass movie & they’re one of my favorite teams in the mcu. I’ll never forgive cbm sites & online dudebros for killing the hype from the moment the film was announced.
I adore America Chavez & Kamala Kahn and I want to see them in everything. They must be protected at all costs.
Multiverse of Madness had shitty characterisation & basically just copy-pasted the ‘grief made me go off the deep end & hurt people, then I realised and stopped myself’ storyline from Wandavision… but Wanda was extremely selfish & apathetic to other people’s suffering from the time she was introduced in the mcu. MoM didn’t make her like that.
Wanda should’ve been looking for Vision (her actual real life boyfriend whom she spent years with irl) in MoM instead of the kids that weren’t even real that she spent like a week using as characters in her sitcom.
Making everyone forget Peter Parker wasn’t profound or poetic in any way- it was just frustrating and needlessly cruel.
I’m begging marvel to understand that heroes don’t have to be in constant suffering to be heroic & villains don’t have to sacrifice themselves to achieve redemption. Let characters heal and atone, you absolute weirdos.
What If…? is the most boring show ever. I’d rather watch Secret Invasion or She-Hulk.
Season 2 of Loki is, in a cinematic & artistic sense, the best marvel project period.
Loki season 1 was meh- more of a fun au than anything because his characterisation kinda sucked. Season 2 fixed it, though, and made it way easier for me to incorporate this version of Loki back into the larger mcu.
Having Steve stay in the past with Peggy was stupid af.
I don’t hate Peggy (or Captain Carter), though. I actually think she’s pretty cool.
I don’t really love Steve. He’s arrogant & they never really let him have flaws & something about him being a perfect metaphor for the American military industrial complex (and marvel painting that as a good thing) doesn’t sit right with me.
The Illuminati got done dirty and the only reason they went down so fast was because Wanda had all that plot armor.
I thought the retcon of having Wanda be “destined” to become the Scarlet Witch since birth was an annoying cop-out. Her powers originating from being experimented on with an infinity stone was way more interesting.
Loki & Wanda have almost the exact same powers.
Nebula deserved a bigger rule in killing Thanos & everything else moving forward.
I love Kathryn Newton but her acting as Cassie Lang was the worst acting I’ve ever seen in the mcu, like it was outrageously bad.
I’m glad Sam is the new Captain America and not Bucky.
The fact that Bucky probably isn’t gonna be one of Thee lead characters in the upcoming avengers movies feels sick and twisted.
Secret Invasion was actually passable until the G’iah scene at the end. That ruined it. And Nick Fury deserved way better for his solo series.
Kang is so much more interesting than Doctor Doom. I really hope they just recast him.
Carol Danvers does NOT deserve the hate she gets.
I actually disliked Carol until The Marvels. That movie made me a stan.
The way people treat Monica as Wanda’s little inferior pet creation or smth & then brag about it is uhh very sus.
I don’t like sylvie (bc she’s an amalgamation of 3 different comic characters- which killed any hopes of them appearing individually in the mcu, the creators used her existence to butcher Loki’s genderfluid rep, & she was written poorly) & I HATE sylki (bc it’s weird & unnecessary).
Marvel isn’t dead. I actually love where they’re taking things. But that’s just me.

I think one of the reasons people were annoyed with Mando season 3, and will potentially have issues with season 4 is the....MCU-ification of it all. One of the reasons the first season and Andor work so well is you can come to them with no knowledge of the wider Star Wars universe and still enjoy them. Now though, Mando is becoming interconnected with other projects. I'm not really interested in Ahsoka, but I don't want to have to watch a whole season of a character I'm not invested in just to be able to enjoy Mando S4 properly? Likewise, including Mando and Grogu's reunion in TBOBF was a cheap move, and meant you 'had' to watch TBOBF just to understand how they were reunited. Idk, it just doesn't sit right with me, and I forsee it causing problems with S4's reception tbh.
The problem is, it can work - and it has worked before. Just look at season 2. Many people regard that as the best season, even with general audiences not knowing who Bo-Katan and Ahsoka were before their live-action debuts.
The problem with season 3 was that it made Din reactive rather than proactive. The reclamation of Mandalore was important, but rather than being the catalyst, he was the person who gave us, the audience, the eyes to watch through. It was almost like he was just sitting back and watching it all happen with the rest of us. The only time Din really feels like he has a proactive story in season 3 is in episodes 1, 2, 3, and 8.

Ok, so Quantumania done means Loki rewatch time coz blorbo 😍😍😍 but seriously, I really appreciate the way the series broke Loki out of his cool, controlled mask he always wore, particularly all throughout Thor to TDW and gave us a much more relatable and open Loki.
No more grand speeches, no more heavy handed eloquence that felt forced, no more controlled reactions. No, for the first time Loki was truly free from all the expectations, both self imposed and those he carried as a prince and later in trying to show himself as a powerful, formidable villian.
Just an open, vulnerable Loki who acted how he wanted without having to care about how others would perceive him. And that's what I love about the series that it gave us a Loki without any need for validation or any external pressure and showed us just who the guy is behind his projected image that he wore all throughout Thor to TDW.
And thank God, the man behind all that is an innocent trickster and not mr. Brooding guy. Loki had always been a trickster and a prankster be it in myths or comics and while his story had a lot of emotional weight, he was always a silly character. And I love MCU finally let him be silly and a dork.
What I particularly loved is how Loki went from feeling forced, like someone trying really hard to overcompensate (which he was tbh hence his controlled persona) like a cat puffing out it's chest to appear more intimidating to a more natural, real, raw characterisation.
But I think that was always the point. The Loki from Thor to TDW wasn't the real Loki but a controlled persona conjured by him to elicit a certain response from others (coz he was scared of being mocked). And the one we see in Ragnarok and the series is the real Loki, who he truly is when he isn't trying to force others to view him a certain way.
And that reflects beautifully in his speech which went from feeling kind of forced in Thor to TDW to more natural from Ragnarok. Like he's still Loki but now he speaks like how a real person speaks, not someone trying to gain authority.
I think it becomes very clear his so called 'shakespearean' speech is just a intimidation tactic in episode 1 and 2. During the interrogation scene and when he's trying to convince Sylvie to come join him, he speaks in a lower, slower, deeper voice with more advanced English as a way to appear more threatening and powerful. And my best scene is when his mask slips during the interrogation.
He goes from 'there's a fork in every road' to 'i know' in a split second and the sudden change in his demeanor is always hilarious. Tom Hiddleston is awesome. He promised to show us what makes Loki tick and he really laid it out bare for everyone to see.
The entire series, but especially ep 1-3 were like going inside Loki's mind and understanding what makes him tick .
Just chef's kiss 😘. I don't think anyone else could have accomplished what the team of S1 had done

there's a new rumor about bucky getting his own Disney plus show 🙄🙄🙄 and I hope it isn't true but even seeing the rumor annoyed me so bad. that would b such a waste of time. 🙄 Sebastian is doing very good outside the mcu and with his indie projects. i hope he realizes that because sometimes i feel like he's still saying yes to marvel only because he's grateful but ugh 🙄🙄🙄 I'm so mad lol. i the other hand, feige did say yesterday that there will be less shows to avoid saturation and given that there are already like 5 or 6 upcoming Disney shows, i hope this rumor isn't real. i don't even understand how some fans can get excited about it 🙄🙄🙄
Yeah, I saw that rumour, and I got a few more asks about it, but I'm just going to answer one, because it's not something I want to talk about in general, and especially not when it's only a rumour at this point.
I REALLY hope this isn't true, pretty much for the reasons you listed and some additional ones @becccaagain mentioned in the reblog of this post (I'd rather not reblog the post itself because I don't want to have that rumour on my blog like that). I think if there's one reason Seb keeps saying yes to more Marvel, then it's the paycheck rather than that he's grateful, to be honest. I'm sure he knows that he's in a better position now than he used to be, and I'm sure he's business-minded enough to realise that he doesn't doesn't have to take literally any job he can get anymore, at this point.
But while I can't begrudge him wanting to get those paychecks (whether it's for personal reasons or for professional ones, such as wanting to produce more in the future) I am begging him to stop accepting Marvel gigs if he has any choice in the matter lol. He doesn't seem to get much out of them anymore creatively and artistically speaking at this point, and if he did do more Marvel, it'd probably go at the expense of other projects that could actually bring him those new, challenging, fulfilling experiences he's always looking for and advance his career in a way that will mean he'll get more and more of those opportunities, plus more money eventually.
And from my personal perspective, I just want them to leave Bucky alone already. They have mistreated him for years, and he just deserves to rest, goddammit. Bucky is literally one of my two favourite characters of all time, so I'm not saying this lightly. But at this point, I don't trust Marvel with him anymore at all. There is no way they'd suddenly start doing him justice (it's gone too far for that already anyway), and I am not interested in seeing him be mistreated more, and get further and further away from the Bucky I fell in love with (and that is not Sebastian's fault, by the way - he's always done the best with what he was given, but he just has been given fuck all in the past few years). So yes, anyway - this is still just a rumour at this point, so let's hope it's disproven soon. And if not, well, that would suck but we'd deal with it, I guess (again).
And just a little disclaimer at the end here: this is my personal opinion. I personally am not excited at the prospect at all, but I know there are people who are, and that's great for them, truly. So I don't blame anyone for having a different opinion, but I'm also not interested in arguing about this. Let's just agree to disagree and move on <3

“You’re just annoyed that your personal headcanon isn’t canon!”
Or; my personal thoughts (ranting) about the Loki series and its surrounding toxic discourse.
First of all, I’m going to preface this with the following: whether you loved or hated the Loki series, or you fall somewhere in between, your opinion is valid and if anyone tells you that you can’t express that in a critical manner, then they need to kindly go away. I should also mention the obvious which most people understand — death threats directed at anyone involved in making the series is disgusting and if you do so you’re fucking deluded.
Now that that’s out of the way…
I’m someone who wasn’t overly fond of the series in the end. I went in surprisingly hopeful after enjoying Wandavision and TFATWS. For the most part I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes (episode 3 being the best imo) but I found myself quickly disillusioned by how the narrative seemed to fall apart in terms of cohesiveness. Keeping it short and sweet, I feel like a lot of the relationships (whether platonic or otherwise) were rushed. I found Loki’d dynamic with both Mobius and Sylvie to be confusing, unbelievable, and all around not earned. It feels as though they had a start point and an end point (ie. Loki needs a genuine friend) but we didn’t see any of the journey in between to show how the relationship developed. The quote “after all this time…” in episode 6 sent me over. Like Loki pls you’ve known this woman for max two days or something… No, I’m not salty because he didn’t end up with Mobius. No, I’m not salty because of “selfcest”. I’m salty because I don’t think the relationships were done as well as they could have been. Also, even though no one asked, Loki x therapy is the only ship I give a rats about.
Other points include the following:
Loki felt more like a side character with little impact on the events in his own show.
Sylvie sometimes teeters into Mary-Sue territory, and at times appears to be valued only because she is a woman.
Mobius’ relationship with Loki seems inherently toxic and he is not his therapist. As someone who regularly attends therapy sessions, if your therapist ever talks to you like Mobius talks to Loki — get a new goddamn therapist, Jesus Christ…
In my opinion, the show explores very little of Loki’s character and what makes him tick, especially considering this is post-Avengers 2012 Loki. I’m aware there were only six episodes and I’m not expecting everything to be crammed in, but where Loki was in Thor 1 and the Avengers seems so disconnected from where he is in the series. It seems to portray him as someone hellbent on power and ruling, as opposed to someone desperate for respect and the love of his family/people.
But I digress, the real point of this post was to tell certain people to feck off. Obviously there’s going to be discourse around the series, but I’m starting to get really sick of one side telling the other “you put your personal headcanons on Loki”, “he’s not your character”, “you’re just annoyed because canon didn’t go how you wanted”, “you’re projecting your own abuse on him”, blah blah blah. And here was me thinking the discourse around Ragnarok was bad, but this is another level, lads.
Here’s an idea, how about people who liked the show stop acting like those who didn’t just pulled their opinion on Loki right out of their own ass? All I know is that every opinion I’ve ever formed on him was based on the first three films he appeared in. That’s it — nothing made up because I love to project as someone who went through similar shit to him.
Discuss the show, but don’t be a massive bellend about it.
In summary, Tom Hiddleston I am free next Saturday if you are free next Saturday and I’ll buy all the rounds of Jameson you need while we talk about Loki and how he — no matter what happens to him within the MCU from here on out — will always be one of favourite characters to grace the big screen.
(Anyway who cares what I think, people are just going to call me a whiny Loki apologist regardless.)

How I would have done Wanda in the MCU (pt.2)
Note that this is obviously comprised of my own opinions and if you don’t agree with them, simply scroll away and ignore it
Helloooo
So this is part 2, where I will tackle the phase 3 projects i.e. civil war, infinity war and end game
(Part 1 was winter soldier and age of Ultron)
Note the fact that obviously everything that was going to happen to her character arc in phase 4 was not planned when she was seen in winter soldier so I do have the benefit of hindsight and this is by no means, something that should have been done or anything.
I am not a screenwriter and this will not be perfect.
Without further ado, let’s get into it
Captain America : Civil War
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I can’t control their fear, only my own”
Now I think this film is amazing in its portrayal of Wanda. But with my version of age of ultron, some changes do need to come about
🥀 a confrontation between her and Tony
So this concludes the plot line that I added in age of ultron of Wanda still resenting Tony
The missile that killed her parents and took away her home was from stark industries. Her brother died in a rampage caused by one of his creations .That very creation destroyed the city she lived in
How can she ever come to terms with that?
Perhaps the scene could start out with Tony trying to recruit her onto his side
She’s powerful. If they can convince a mutant with such power to join their side and sign the accords then they’ll be able to convince almost everyone that what they are doing is right
Wanda spares him one glance before looking away
He starts talking and making an argument, trying to be gentle
No longer being able to bear the sound of his voice, she lashes out
Her accent comes out again
The television glitches
A window shatters
“ You took my parents, my brother and my city away from me and you have the audacity to even think that I would comply to your team!? “
“ listen kid, I understand- “
“No you don’t! How can you!? You live in luxury, you are at the head of the avengers and you have nearly every military at your fingertips. You don’t understand and you never will”
She storms off and all Tony can do is sink into self pity
I think it gives more insight into siding with Cap and gives the audience a reminder of what Tony did
🥀 more scenes with vision
Just to set up the thing with the already emotional thing of her losing him 3 times
The cooking scene is adorable so more of that
Maybe her watching the news and drowning in guilt of what she did and vision just coming passing through the wall and into her room, startling her
‘Vis, we’ve talked about this’
‘Apologies’
He sits down and with one look at the news and then Wanda, he takes a cd (it can be one she gave him or one he found in her room) and switches from the news to a sit com
‘The last episode was too much of a cliffhanger. If you don’t mind’
Wanda just chuckles and watches, now with a wide smile on her face
And then Steve comes in and tells them Tony wants to meet with every one
While I like the scene where Steve is comforting her, I do find this more suitable.
As they end up on opposite sides, they still care for each other and I think this can also help us understand how vision (currently) is awkward and does not know how to go about things but he understands Wanda and Wanda understands him. They’re both new to all this, they’re both awkward, they both want the best for each other. But they have to fight against each other.
We could also get something with them discussing their futures and where they want to end up and Vision lets slip something like ‘we could live together… or not, it’s up to you really’
‘That doesn’t sound bad actually, can save money’
‘Yes of course. Money.’
Now these scenes, paired with Tony’s confrontation scene later or earlier on, ties into the rift vision and stark get into over vision nearly causing Rhodey’s death
🥀her in prison
Just to see vision’s reaction and him maybe lashing out, reminding Tony of Ultron, making him almost scared. Vision calms down eventually but this just makes Tony more weary of both of them and grow resentment
🥀her aesthetic
Again one of those nit-picky points but I do think it would have helped her character
We see her room in one scene, right?
Instead of it being bland like shown, maybe there are posters of popular sitcoms, tapestries of gothic art (she never left her emo phase, what do you mean), a pile of newspapers documenting the avengers’s cases or a pile of cds
Anything
Her costume, again , unnecessarily sexualises her
While I like the idea of it, maybe ditch the heels and give her more coverage for protection?
Olsen will look great either way but it just bugs me that this blatant sexualisation is not part of her character in any way, just there for the hell of it.
Now just some things I do like about this movie (almost everything) :
🥀the incident in the beginning of the movie setting up how Wanda still hasn’t settled into this whole superhero thing
🥀the cooking scene with Vision
🥀her dynamic with hawkeye
🥀how she actually faces proper consequences (which becomes rarer as projects go on)
🥀the brief scenes we get of her in prison
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Avengers : Infinity War
“why was she up there all this time?”
Okay so I really love this movie
And I barely have any changes to give to her character as I think it ties in pretty nicely. The interactions are fun, the emotion is there
just one thing to conclude the Bruce plot line from age of ultron
🥀a scene between her and Bruce
This is the first time they see each other, both characters have been through shit
Maybe it could start off as Wanda approaching him. She drove him through all this madness in the first place
Bruce is still shaken from everything that has happened and seems distant but tries to appear friendly. How he always does, I suppose
Now it doesn’t have to be much
Just a small conversation that starts off awkward, that is in nature of both characters at the time
Then it gets deeper, Wanda apologises
She understands now, how it feels to be painted as a monster by the public, how to have so many against you. She tells him it was driven by rage, by unnecessary fury and how she wishes she could take it back
Bruce, unsure, takes a pause and then smiles
Faintly but smiles
He reassures her that it’s okay and he forgives her but they have a bigger threat on their heels and right now, the best solution is to stick together
Despite everything that has happened in their pasts
Other than that, everything about her character is near perfection in this film. The plot line with vision, the acting GAH THE ACTING, every decision she makes, like * chef’s kiss *
Avengers : Endgame
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
”you took everything from me”
Same as infinity war, I do not have any such thing to add to this film
but I do wanna conclude a plot line
🥀a scene with Tony
Now this is the epic battle that has gotten 10 years of build up, it would just be outright stupid to devote an entire scene to them. But maybe we can see Tony’s reaction
as the slides show the different people who have been blipped, when Wanda’s comes up - we flash to two people
Clint and Tony
A mentor and an enemy
Tony sinks to his hands again before lashing out in his speech against Steve
he couldn’t save Peter
he couldn’t apologise to Wanda
he couldn’t keep the avengers together
now that is just a small thing but it does show that he feels sorry and wanted to make it up to her but that chance might be gone forever .
we could also rope in vision’s death as a contributing factor to his explosion
now in the final battle, when everyone has arrived, I want to keep it almost the same
but instead of Wanda saving black panther from Thanos, she saves tony
just swap out their roles and make it so that Tony is trying to fly away with the gauntlet with Thanos at his heels and then Wanda flies down from the sky in between them
the showdown goes the exact same with Wanda only getting knocked out when Thanos calls his troops
she falls to the ground and is helped up by Tony (who has now passed the gauntlet to someone else)
now can everything be fully forgiven
no. but they are fighting for a cause bigger than both of them. They are fighting and they are fighting together. A small acknowledgment passes between them as they separate. Giving both a sense of peace. When Tony dies, a pan over to Wanda
She isn’t crying. Cried enough because of the titan.
she’s not angry. she’s understanding. She understands why he did so, she understands for whom he did so, and gains a new found respect for him. some might say too late but she does, a small smile appears on her face before she retreats back to the ship. Letting his family mourn.
He understood. He always understood. Now she can understand as well. but yeah
that’s it for today
I hope you liked it
let me know if there are any changes you would have liked to see

Hey!! Here to talk about fanfic with you!
Is there a fandom or character that you want to write for but haven't yet? Why is that?
Is there a fanfic that you would rewrite or look at again if you had the chance? (Personally I think your writing is fantastic but I know we as authors are our own worst enemies, and I'm curious to see your side of it)
What's your favorite part about Similarities so far? Of King and Lionheart? Of your Ariel fics?
What's one line from any of your fics that you're especially proud of? And why do you like it? (Particularly artful, really captures a character, great humor, etc.)
What's your favorite trait to give a character trait? Physical or personality. What's a trait in yourself that you often see in your characters (past neurodivergence and queerness, I mean individual personality traits like confidence or sarcastic humor)
Your writing is amazing bestie!! So excited to see what you do with Eliŝka!
Hi! Thank you!
Fandom wise, I'm not sure. I haven't consumed any new media recently except Vol 3. So I guess MCU? (If you don't count my Wandavision and X-Men crossover fic)
As for character, I haven't written anything for my newest OC, Eliška Hasek, and I'm itching to get started on that. Oh, also another OC, Tessa Hayes (Lee Quinn's birth mother) there are things in place I should do first before I start on these projects.
Probably majority of my fics from 2019 or 2020. And the first Kaia fics probably need a revamp.
For Similarities, I enjoy being able to write about Henry and El in a more domestic setting since escaping the lab and writing about their bond growing. Though funny enough I am looking forward to writing more of the future plot and angst with Beatrice.
King and Lionheart, I feel like it's still in its early stages but despite that has shown a lot of potential or progress if that makes sense? I also enjoy writing about Dream having to interact with a character so different than him (Lee) and having them learn to get along and their dynamic.
The Ariel ship! Ok, where do I start? I guess honestly it's a little fun to drag out the fics and have my readers waiting excitedly for when the big confession happens. I'm sorry I like to torture my audience 😈 but also Arith and Iriel banter is so fun and rewarding to write. I feel like they've come a long way. And you know what I still plan on writing stuff for them even after y'know 💀 because people read essentially prequel stuff all the time.
One line from any fic.... oh this is tough. Why do I feel like all my best stuff isn't published yet lol.
Ok so more than a single line (oops) but from King and Lionheart.
“I understand your warnings, but I would like to go with you, anyway.” She looked up at him with a determined glint in her eyes.
I think it just sums up Lee's character so well. She's bold, stubborn, and dedicated.
Favorite trait to give a character? Physically wise I think I either have to say freckles or piercings. Personality wise... I guess unique? Now hold on let me explain, I don't like to write about characters who fit a mold or something like that. That's boring. There has to be a little bit of going against the norm. Not fitting in but rather standing out as an individual.
I really hope that wasn't confusing or too much of a basic answer.
As for the last question, I think I tend to have a dry sense of humor and I like writing characters with a similar sense of humor.
Thank you very much!

Speed Run part III: No Sleep Till Brooklyn
Just found out that Guardians III is available to stream so, obviously, I'm about to watched that. I also, watched Spider-Verse II because, why the f*ck not? I’ve been playing catch-up with my movie viewing all year, mostly because lie is ridiculous sometimes, but progress is being made. So far, I've seen every movie on my top ten list, even if a little late.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3
Tumblr media
GoT III was much, much, better than i expected. From all of the reviews I've read, you'd think this was a jumbled mess of incoherent, tear-jerking, cameo laden, comic book bloat. It's not. It's actually really good. It's weird this thing didn't make more money because, objectively, it's one of the best projects coming out of the MCU since No Way Home. And i f*cking LOVE No Way Home. As great as his flick was, here were issues. Pacing toward the beginning was a little windy and some characters felt like they got rush jobs in terms of development but that’s understandable when you take into account the massive scope of this film. Adam Warlock was the biggest casualty of this. Dude was awesome and i kind of loved the take Gunn had on him. That “Born Sexy Yesterday” trope turned on it’s head was fun and i feel like we could have had a bit more of that. Damn sure wanted to see more of Phyla Vel, too. She’s a favorite. It was always going to be a tall order to give everyone satisfying closure to their story arcs or just screen time, especially hen this was, at its core, a Rocket Raccoon story. These are petty nitpicks because, overall, Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 is a goddamn masterpiece. That makes three classic films, out of three tries. Who have thought that the films about an obscure, C-list, comic book team based out in deep space, would accomplish the rare hat trick and deliver a trilogy of movies with no bad entries. F*cking phenomenal.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Tumblr media
Across the Spider-Verse was the dopest film i have seen all year. Hands down, unequivocally, the best. I loved every bit of this film, every goddamn second. I am an unapologetic Spider-Man shill and Miles is up there in my book. I’m Pete purist but these Into the Spider-Verse gave us the best interpretation of the character and Across carried the energy into something greater. I ADORED this film, man. Never mind that it’s positively gorgeous. Never mind that it is brilliantly written. Never mind that it raised the bar for animation yet again. Never mind all of the quips, cameos, easter eggs, and nods. Never mind the dope ass character designs, ridiculous perfect reimaginaing of one of the lamest villains on record, or the that Rio is a goddamn vision. Never min that this film is the best executed multiverse narrative to date. No, all of that is dope, but, at it’s core, this move is great because of Miles. This is a Miles story and it is told brilliantly. No spoilers, which is weird to say for a movie that has been out for a month, but Across he Spider-Verse is arguably THE best Spider-Flick released thus far. And i am a No Way Home apologist saying that with no qualms or hesitation. F*cking brilliant film.

For the violence asks: 8 & 13
*chanting* violence, violence, violence-
8 - common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about: No fandom was specified so we're talking about Tony Stark within the MCU. Specifically that, believe it or not, he's not a completely horrible character with no redeeming qualities or points in his favor! I can totally understand hating him. That's completely fair. BUT. The fandom, or at least the fandom on tumblr, treats him like he's pure evil. I think a good deal of people think that even within the canon of the movies he's worse than Thanos. But I feel like a lot of people want to ignore the fact that, like him or not, he's a complex character with a lot of depth. He's not some golden boy, and imo, he's never treated like one. Not by the movies (except maybe Endgame, but fuck Endgame), and not by the other characters around him. He's a deeply traumatized dumpster fire of a person with too much money and privilege, and I don't think he knows how to be a good person. But damn does he try. He's motivated by an often misguided notion of how to improve the world, one that's influenced by his upbringing. It's strongly implied that he was abused and neglected as a child, and that the butler, Jarvis, was more a parent to him than his actual parents ever were. Howard provided a perfect model of his future pattern of substance abuse and partying. He's been through numerous apocalypse scenarios, and was shown to have strong PTSD, along with likely some form of neurodivergence (I'm sorry, but no neurotypical person is hyperfocusing on an engineering project for days on end with no sleep and losing track of time). Tony was raised surrounded by wealth and privilege, and was never taught how to be a good person. But through the Iron Man trilogy, we see him trying. We see him struggling with facing his own mortality through the thing that once saved him killing him, we see him facing his personal demons in Iron Man 3, and we see him doing his best through all of it to stumble through the path to being someone he can not hate when he looks in the mirror. And yeah, he sucks at it. Watching Tony Stark trying to be a good person is a bit like watching one of those wobbly kittens try to eat out of a food bowl that's not theirs and only succeeding occasionally and very messily. But I think that's part of why I enjoy his character. I think I like watching someone who is so damn far from perfect struggle to become a better person, battling his personal demons, and I don't think his wealth completely erases that battle. Also, the later movies completely fucked over what was being developed through the Iron Man trilogy and just made him into what other people would have seen him as without holding any regard for his internal struggles and characterization, but they also did that with, like, most of the characters. Name a single MCU character they didn't make worse over time. I
13 - worst blorboficiation: I'm a little confused by what this one means. IMO everyone should have a blorbo. I strongly support everyone adopting a character and rotating them in their mind for 8-12 hours a day, no matter who that is. You can pick the most despicable resented character in canon and I will still fight for your right to go a little rabid for them. Foam at the mouth a little, it's good for you
Thanks for the chance to rant, Alex :3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3: Mild Spoilers Review.
Wow…what a movie.
There's an argument to be made that this is the best film in the trilogy. The action is eye-catching, the character arcs conclude or wrap up satisfyingly, and emotions and stakes keep the audience hooked the entire time. Marvel fans have been understandably upset or split by the quality of projects released over the last four years, but it seems universal that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is up there as one of the best MCU projects. A mere fact.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. follows our favorite band of universal misfits in the MCU after all the Thanos and Infinity Stone shenanigans. Avengers: Endgame brought back Quill, Drax, Mantis, and others after being snapped away, a different version of Gamora into the timeline who has no romantic inclination towards our dear Star-Lord, and gave some depth to a character like Nebula, who held the fort down for five years as everyone returned. Then we got the Christmas special which was a fun romp, focusing more on the spectacular chemistry Drax and Mantis share (which I'll touch more upon later) and provided the big reveal early on how Quill and Mantis are related. One way or another, many members of the Guardians received some attention and care prior to this movie, their final hurrah together.
What about Rocket? The other Guardians member besides Nebula, who survived the snap and also helped hold the fort down, assisting the Avengers in their heist and bringing back his family, had some time to shine in Endgame, but not so much in the special.
Well, this film is all about him. Rocket Racoon. He's the emotional crux of the movie, and my god, does it work.
Mild spoiler here if you haven't seen it, but Rocket becomes predisposed for the majority of the film. Being left on life support, Quill and the others scramble across the galaxy to find a way to save his life. Rocket lacks interactions with the others for most of the movie, but he still manages to harbor plenty of screen time as writer and director James Gunn show us one of the most heart-wrenching origin stories for a character in a superhero time in forever.
It is…so hard, damn near impossible, to keep a straight face or avoid being teary-eyed when you see the tragedies that Rocket had to endure as a test subject while as a small animal with his friends. Any scene with young Rocket or Rocket fighting for his life on life support is the equivalent of being bombarded with rigorous eight-ton punches to the heart. This shit was kicking my feelings in the ass. This is Rocket's movie, and you best not forget.
Besides Rocket, the rest of the Guardians and the actors portraying them are on their A-game. Quill is scrambling to keep his friend alive while balancing dealing with his previously dead, now undead, and uncaring ex-girlfriend, Gamora. The dynamic Quill and Gamora shared in the first two GOTG movies and in Infinity War was special. Their relationship blossomed into a beautiful love before coming to a tragic end at the hands of Thanos. Now all that goodwill and the fond memories they shared are nothing as this Gamora wants nothing to do with him, and he struggles to get over that fact. By the end of the film, the two come to a conclusion fitting for their new circumstances. She will never be the same Gamora he knew, and he comes to terms with it.
Coinciding with their fantastic dynamic is Drax and Mantis. Quill and Mantis may be siblings technically, but how Drax and Mantis interact here is similar to a bickering sibling dynamic. It's hilarious. They're hilarious. Dave Bautista as Drax has always had funny one-liners, but Pom Klementieff as Mantis helps him bring out the hilarity within him and vice versa. The progression of Drax the Destroyer to who he becomes is stellar, as well as Mantis, who makes a huge decision at the end of the film. And a shout out to Karen Gillian as Nebula, who is endlessly entertaining in GOTG3. She has come a long way since being a servant of her father, Thanos, and has some of the best scenes or sequences in the film.
The action scenes are to behold, but there's one in a hallway that is just perfect. Between that scene and the hallway fights in Daredevil, Marvel does not miss those particular types of fight scenes, I swear.
If there's one more aspect to highlight, it's Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary. I recall seeing him first in Peacemaker as Clemson, and he was excellent in that, and he's even more so here. The HE is one of if not the most unlikable, despicable villains in the MCU. He's easy to hate, menacing, delivers great lines ("There is no God, that's why I stepped in!" is cold as fuck), and is a perfect foil for the story, for Rocket, and for the Guardians. He's arguably the best villain in the trilogy, but I slightly prefer Ego more than him, personally.
Rounding out excellent performances across the board and top-tier action sequences are hilarious jokes or visual gags. As much as this film may bring you to tears, it's equally likely to make you bust a gut laughing. The Guardians have excellent chemistry across the board, working off one another and providing many humorous one-liners.
The soundtrack is also worth noting as just superb music choices, especially the final songs they end on.
The only gripes are probably that a few jokes fall flat, and I would've liked just a little more time with the HE, but besides that this film is amazing. Long live the Guardians of the Galaxy. 4.5/5.

I was tagged in a first-lines-of-fic meme by my darling @moonatoms.
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten however many people you like. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway!
Tagging: @lissomelle (no this is not an attempt to get your juices flowing because you were brainstorming Shadow & Bone fic what are you taking about), @hondagirll, @seek--rest, @abc2411, and anyone else because it’s 1 am and my brain is no longer working.
1. someone out there who can bring me back to you (Spider-Man (MCU) Peter/MJ Adam Project AU)
“MJ, are you sure about this?”
MJ gestures to be quiet as she and Ned make their way through the silent facility. Ned’s already hacked into the system to shut off the security cameras and alarms, but the last thing they need is to alert any guards. She tightens her grip on her backpack.
2. scars are souvenirs we never lose (Spider-Man (MCU) Peter/MJ, Michelle-centric post-NWH fic)
Michelle is pretty sure she spent the first few hours of Saturday hanging out on Liberty Island with her best friend and a wizard.
Yes, she knows how that sounds. No, she doesn’t know why they were there. It gets particularly confusing when she remembers there was some kind of showdown between Spider-Man and a lizard and a sand storm, and maybe a guy on a hoverboard? Anyway, the point is, she and Ned spent their night hanging out at what she’s pretty sure is now a crime scene, and she has no idea how they ended up there.
3. Speak Aloud What Until Now I've Only Sung (Austin & Ally, Austin/Ally through the years)
They are 18 and prom is just around the corner. He wants to ask her to what is supposed to be the greatest night of their high school lives, but he takes just a bit too long working up the nerve, and when he finally approaches her and tries to nonchalantly suggest that they go together she already has a date.
With Dallas.
Of course.
Fate would decide to screw with him like that.
4. Make a Move (‘Cause I’m Ready) Austin & Ally, Austin/Ally post-Mix-Ups & Mistletoe
Early on the day after Christmas, Trish barges into Sonic Boom and demands, "So are you going to tell me about that almost kiss under the mistletoe or what?"
Ally is still exhausted from yesterday and is all but on autopilot, and before she can stop herself she replies, "Which one?"
5. Fragment of Light (Merlin; Arthur-Gwen 4x09 spec fic)
“They want your head, Guinevere.” Gwen remains silent, her gaze trained to the side. “What am I supposed to do now?” This catches her attention, and she finally looks at him. Disbelief flickers across her face.
6. There’s So Much More Than Me and You (Merlin; Arthur/Gwen 3x10 spec fic)
“Guinevere.”
Gwen glanced up from her place on the dungeon floor. “Arthur,” she breathed. She stared at him for a moment, just making out the outline of him through the bars of the prison door.
6. Burnt Chicken Never Won Fair Lady (Merlin; Arthur/Gwen slightly cracky modern au)
As a rule, Gwen avoided the habit of eavesdropping, preferring not to run the risk of hearing only bits and pieces of a conversation and either agonizing over what had actually been said or leaving the room with a completely false understanding of the discussion. Yet when Morgana started snickering uncontrollably, her magazine shaking up and down, Gwen couldn’t help but look up from her book and follow her friend’s gaze to the two young men standing on the other side of Morgana’s elegantly decorated living room.
7. A Handful of Sand (Merlin; Arthur/Gwen, arranged marriage s3 spec)
Camelot is falling apart.
As much as Gwen tried to quiet this thought, every day it seemed to grow stronger. The dragon attack months ago was only the first of many tragedies to befall the kingdom, and now the people were cursed with a king who, for all intents and purposes, had gone mad.
8. Multa Paucis (Merlin; Arthur/Gwen, Gwen-centric missing scenes from s2 finale)
“They’ve left, Gwen – both of them.”
“Oh.” It’s the only word that manages to escape her lips, the only word she trusts herself to utter without revealing that the world is turning on its head, that she is lost and unsure and …
Scared.
9. A Pirate’s Life (is not For Spoiled Princes) (Merlin; Arthur, Gwen, and Morgana in a pre-Merlin Camelot)
The morning before Gwen’s first day as a handmaiden her father had warned her that her lady’s word was law. “No matter what happens, obey the king’s ward,” her father had said before seeing her off. Gwen understood the logic behind this advice, but she wondered if her father would’ve instructed her otherwise had he been better acquainted with the Lady Morgana. Indeed, Gwen couldn’t imagine that he’d be particularly thrilled if he discovered how his daughter was currently aiding her lady in a pirate attack on the crown prince of Camelot.
10. We Are Just Breakable Girls and Boys (Merlin; Arthur/Gwen shortly after Morgana’s disappearance)
He finds her in Morgana’s chambers. Her back is to him – her face looking out the window – and her arms are wrapped around her body as if she’s protecting herself from the cold. He hasn’t said a word, but somehow she knows he’s there, for she soon says in a hoarse voice, “I didn’t believe him.”

I watched Antman And The Wasp: Quantumania last night and I have some thoughts!
If you haven’t seen the movie and don’t want to be spoiled, I’d suggest you don’t push the ‘read more’ button. If you have watched it or are nosy (like me) go ahead! And if you're currently not the biggest MCU fan, just letting you know that it's a good review, so do with it as you will.
Okay, let’s get into it.
I watched the movie in 3D and English, thank God, so I got the full experience.
I want to start off by saying that I had both low and high expectations, the former coming from a fear of Marvel screwing up Phase 5 and making me not enjoy their movies as much as I used to, and the latter because of the same reason because I don't want Marvel to screw it up and I hoped Antman would be as good as the trailer promised. I also hoped for Marvel to do their best at starting off Phase 5 after so much talk about how exciting it was going to be and that the future of the MCU was looking up again. I hoped for that.
In the end, Antman wasn't as good as it was promised in the trailer and the many reviews of the first screening I've read before.
It was better. Much, much better. And that comes from a personal place, of course, and how I viewed it, but let me just say, the entire room was burning (in a good way) and I wasn't the only one blown away.
Now that I've said it, I have to explain why I think that way. Or, I want to because I'm annoying and I like to share my opinion on things that no one asked for. (And most of you voted for more Daredevil thoughts no one asked for in the poll I made - this may not be Daredevil or Matt Murdock related, but in the end DD: Born Again will be part of Phase 5 so Antman actually plays an important part. It just set an example for what's about to come.)
1) I went into this movie with the fear that Marvel rushed the CGI again and completely missed the point (I liked Thor: Love And Thunder but the special effects and world building could have been better) so I kind of went into it with the fear that they ruined it. It, however, did not disappoint. Marvel did not disappoint with the CGI or world building. They did an incredible fucking job with it. And whoever is leaving terrible reviews on Rotten Tomatoes... have you watched the movie? Because from what I've read, we've seen two entirely different versions. And I'm not saying this because I'm prejudiced (okay, maybe I'm holding onto too much hope, but whatever, I've viewed this movie entirely objectively because I was not convinced that Marvel would actually pull it off). The movie did exactly that. They pulled it off. Which brings me to…
2) They outdid themselves with the world building. I watched it in 3D, as previously stated, and I felt as if I was actually there. The Quantum Realm was so well-made, I can't really describe it. It partly looked like I was staring at the corals under the sea, then there were obviously some of the elements that we saw in Multiverse of Madness when they, like, entered the broken Multiverse. It was a lot, but it was well-made. Anyway! Watching it, I found myself thinking back to when Endgame came out and I watched the big battle scene. You know, when Marvel didn’t rush their projects? They did amazing and I bow down to the team. It was great, it gave me many different vibes and I just felt so enchanted at certain points because they created something magical with this. I might be exaggerating, everyone is going to have a different opinion on this movie, and that’s okay, but in my opinion, this was an amazing start and I hope Marvel continues doing what they did with Antman in their future projects.
3) The details. Let's talk about the details. The Quantum-People (I will call them that now) weren't overdone. They looked as real as something that actually doesn't exist can look real, and I was in love with the creature without holes (I have no idea what else to call him). The detail with the "ooze" that made them understand the language of the Quantum-People was also an amazing addition and of course, a necessity; I would not have sat through two hours of gibberish. And when it came to the Quantum Realm and the core, I could have sworn I saw hints at the mirror dimension. It looked like mirrors floating around anyway. And the probabilities that split Hope and Scott into several parts of themselves? Yeah, it really looked like I was staring at a million Paul Rudd's. I'm not kidding, if Marvel had done it like She-Hulk, I would not have been convinced because it would not have looked as real as it did. There are other details that I can't quite remember, I would have to watch it again to go deeper, but who knows, maybe I will. I loved it and I would so watch it again.
4) The balance between comedy, darkness and drama was perfect. We know Scott Lang is a funny guy and Paul Rudd was born for that role, but they incorporated jokes at just the right moments, and they weren’t overdone. It made the entire cinema laugh, and didn’t feel forced. Not to speak of the battle scene at the end, it had me at the edge of my seat. I thought Cassie was going to die, then I thought Scott was going to die, then I thought Hope was going to die... I had a lot of thoughts all the time. They really made it so that you wouldn't suspect anything. I thought the villagers would lose; they didn't. I thought something might happen to our protagonists; nothing happened. Or, something did happen, but no one died. And then I thought Kang would still win, especially when he pulled Scott away from the portal and beat him senseless. I was almost crying because I thought Marvel killed another Avenger, but then Hope came and she saved the day. And they still managed to make me laugh throughout even the parts that had me scared for everyone's lives, and then I cried when the portal disappeared and I was like: NO GOD PLEASE NO. But they’re safe (for now). They came back. They made it out. That's all that matters for now. We are not looking into the future because God forbid, I am scared for every single MCU character - no one is safe!
5) I really loved Cassie. That’s it. I don’t have more to say. She was perfectly badass while sharing her father’s humor and attitude (which I completely support) so they did a great job with her too.
6) The Ants. They did the movie title justice. It wasn't just some timeline slash multiversal mess, they actually incorporated the ants and Hank's connection to the ants. And the way they started building their own technology? We need to appreciate the intelligence of ants because they're not just smart in the movie, they're also pretty smart insects in real life!
When they came to save everyone’s asses in the end? I was like, ‘You go ants!’ And I liked Hank in this movie too. Jane not so much, but with that I mean her character and not the acting performance. They did all remarkably well.
I’m not a movie critic, so I don't have a professional view of things or whatever, but it was really great and they exceeded my expectations with how the characters were portrayed, what they did and when they appeared. And the casting of Kang is *chef's kiss* honestly. I thought it when watching Loki and I'm even more convinced now that he is going to absolutely kill it in Phase 5. Amazing villain, amazing actor, well done! (Now I sound like one of those critics, but I promise, I'm not. I'm just an obsessed fangirl who doesn't know much, she just likes to watch movies, and now also reads comics, and who's just chronically obsessed with Marvel and everything relating to it.)
6) The foreshadowing at the end, at first, made me think, I knew this would come; the fear of Kang and what he said about everyone dying and Scott worrying about it. I expected that much, but then the mid-credit scene came on and I was like ‘hold up a minute, WHAT?’ When all of Kang’s variants got together to conjure up some evil plan. I did not expect that.
7) AND THEN LOKI IN THE POST-CREDIT SCENE? I thought to myself, maybe we’ll get the trailer for season 2 (and I’m really not that excited for it because of the last season, but I’m still gonna watch the shit out of it), and then the scene came on and I saw Loki AND Mobius together, sniffing out Kang, and I gasped. I audibly gasped. ‘Cause it was an entirely different timeline and I’m not sure if those were our Loki and Mobius or variants, but I guess we’ll find out in the show. And Kang will return, so he IS gonna be the villain of Phase 5 (which we all already knew) and I think thats awesome.
Maybe I’ll talk some more when I’ve processed what I watched. But for now, that’s what struck me the most.

Chris fans: Sebastian’s not as famous as Chris, Sebastian is a nobody.
Sebastian: Emmy nominee, two successful “indie” projects, unfortunately harassed by paparazzi, name is on every fashion article, is called an A List by multiple reports but I guess horny fangirls know best?, praised by critics and journalist for his acting, is able to financially support an entire project, gives thousands in tips, and continues to donate 10 of thousands to charity or others, gives such an wonderful performance that a major production company makes him producer of next films, has a grounding group of celebrity friends that are not for show but just because they genuinely care about him, funny enough Chris is included, the Academy writes about he could be a nominee and future Oscar winner, is considered one of the biggest Oscars snubs because of I, Tonya, is named the most versatile actor in the MCU, present and past.
I mean should I go on? Sometimes I wonder why Chris didn’t develop a closer knit to his fans and then I’m reminded why and completely understand him.
I've gotten quite a few asks lately about how some Chris fans are apparently being dismissive of Sebastian and saying he's not as big of a star as Chris, or that Chris doesn't like Sebastian, etc.
I fully understand that that's frustrating and, obviously, it's ridiculous. Sure, Sebastian isn't quite as established a name as Chris is, but why does that matter? He's incredibly talented, he's respected in the industry and has some incredible achievements to his name, and he's always done what he wants and clearly loves the hell out if it. That's what matters. There are plenty of people who are more famous than Sebastian who are not actually great people with great reputations, so fame really isn't everything.
As for Chris not liking Seb: lol, I guess that's why he said he Seb is a dear friend and he loves him with all his heart? That makes sense, yep. No but seriously, I can't help but laugh when people try to act like Chris and Seb aren't friendly. Sure, Jan, whatever you say.
And really, who cares what these Chris fans are saying? They have their own agendas and probably some issues, and for some reason saying this stuff makes them feel better. Whatever 🤷🏻‍♀️ Again, I know it's frustrating to see people say bad things about your fave, but that's why I will always, always advice to just avoid, or block and ignore. This stuff isn't worth investing too much energy in, or getting worked up or upset over. At the end of the day, it's all just silly squabbling between the kind of fans that give fans a bad name (Sebastian's bad fans aren't exactly any better...).
Sebastian is living his best life. Chris and Sebastian know their relationship is solid. These fans and their bitching do not matter. So protect your peace, nonnie! Focus on the good stuff, there's plenty of that around too <3

My Top 5 Best Movies of 2022
Tumblr media
Hey how's going everyone? It's Dan here and were approaching the end of 2022 so were ending with my Top 5 best movies of 2022!
I know I was suppose to do it yesterday but I got busy yesterday so I'm doing it now. I'll repeat this one more time, this is all subjective and my opinion, we can agree to disagree, okay? good, lets begin!
Tumblr media
Number 5 goes to the Bad Guys from Dreamworks (7.5/10)
This movie is based on the children's book and the book itself is quite popular, even at my job we have one of the books for the kids. When I saw the movie trailer, I was an instant fan of the animation style. It's going for that 2D done like 3D style similar to the SpiderVerse movies and that's what makes it unique. I had given my thoughts about it in the review back in April so if ya wanna see that go check it out. The plot itself is the classic never judge a book by its cover as well as everyone can redeem themselves, nothing groundbreaking but I did enjoy the way it was executed in the film. The characters are what really made this movie memorable. My favorite character has to be Mr. Wolf since he's just charismatic and a likeable guy even when he's committing crime you just can't help but love the guy. The character interactions and dynamics are what sell this movie in my eyes. It's on Netflix right now so I'd say give it a watch, I also heard it has more projects in the work so I think it is safe to say that this movie helped bring Dreamworks back in a big way this year (with Puss in Boots: Last Wish following that momentum too).

Number 4 goes to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from Marvel/Disney (8/10)
Wow! a Marvel/Disney movie I'm not disappointed in! I had given a review for this movie back in May so if ya wanna check it out, go ahead. To summarize that review, I love the VFX, just like the first film the VFX are what carry this movie and each one is like a trip. Now keep in mind this is part of the MCU so there are a lot of films and even some shows to watch so that you can fully understand the plot and the characters motivations for what they do. I gave what films and shows to watch during my review so use that as a base line on where to start for story. Even if ya don't watch any of the movies or shows, the plot itself is still rather decent and the characters are still who they are (besides Scarlet Witch) so it'll still be fun time and plenty of magic going on. I still think Spiderman: No Way Home is a better multiverse movie, but this is a good contender with plenty going for it. Though some VFX look a bit lazy at times, it's forgivable compared to what we get a majority of the time. I also wanna point out that Sam Raimi (the director of the Tobey Spiderman movies) directed this film and gave it some of his personal touches even adding Bruce Campbell in for a cameo so I appreciate that too.

Number 3 goes to The Batman from DC/Warner Bros. (8/10)
This movie is when I knew we were eating good this year when it came to movies. This film much like Morbius was in Limbo due to the Pandemic, Luckily it made it's way to theaters and it was a real banger! This was the first review I did back in march and if ya wanna see it go ahead and check it out. This is definitely one of the better Batman performances I've seen and definitely the better representation of Gotham City. Robert Pattinson gave a phenomenal performance as the Dark Knight and even though I feel his performance as Bruce Wayne could have been better, this is still in the early stages of Batmans crime fighting career so Bruce hasn't quite found that balance and secret identity aspect just yet. He is still figuring out what he needs to be for Gotham City and I do hope that they continue to build on this in the future, I would like to see the character growth and development of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Paul Dano as the Riddler was something I was pleasantly surprised with, this darker take on the Riddler was refreshing to see since traditionally the Riddler is one of the more comical villains in Batman's Rogue Gallery. I felt immersed into the City of Gotham and in the story of Bruce Wayne's family, they did well expanding on his history. The action was gritty and more martial art based (which I love) as well as showing off Batman's detective skills trying to solve the riddles. This film truly kicked off the year and I'd say this is definitely the best superhero film of the year, beating out any movies from Marvel and itself.

Number 2 goes to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 from Sega/Paramount (9/10)
I've said this once, and I will say it again, 2022 has been the Sonic Renaissance and were living it up, baby! This is the sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie that came out in 2020 and while the first film was pretty decent and it was more of a testing waters phase, it still did a great job and was one of the main reasons people started to lose that "Video Games can't be adapted to good movies" stigma. Now the sequel builds upon that success, I had given my review for this movie back in April but all the points I made still hold up and I'll support that with further evidence now. After the positive reception of the first film, Jeff Fowler and his crew went into the next phase and decided to build upon and dive into the lore of Sonic the Hedgehog. I also appreciate them having the humans take a backseat this time around and having the story more centered around Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Robotnik (aka Eggman). We got to see settings such as Angel Island and Gerald Robotnik's secret lab where Shadow is in suspended animation (post credit shows Shadow for the upcoming third film). We even saw the Master emerald which was made up of the seven chaos emeralds used in this movie and gave us the special appearance of Super Sonic! As I said earlier, this is the year of Sonic, with a successful sequel, a great game in Sonic Frontiers, a great show in Sonic Prime and the upcoming third movie, Sonic is going fast in the right direction. Hopefully, he continues to rise this momentum into 2023 and beyond, I'm a big sonic fan so it's great to see him doing well after a long time.
Before I get into the number one spot, I'm going to give a few honorable mentions
Tumblr media
First mention goes to Top Gun: Maverick from Skydance/Paramount (7.5/10)
This was a sequel to the nearly 40 year old movie Top Gun, however unlike other random sequels, this one is actually far superior than the original. The original is definitely a cheesy 80's movie, but the sequel manages to build upon and create a real story here making Maverick a mentor with something left to give to the next generation. It's a fun movie to watch and it has plenty of charm to it. All the actors did a phenomenal job and I was pleasantly surprised that this movie was as good as it was.

Next mention is the Elvis Movie from BazMark/Warner Bros. (7/5/10)
This movie is yet another Biopic of a famous Celebrity/Musician, but what really shoots it up there as one of the better Biopics is the performance of Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. Austin truly did Elvis justice with his performance. His mannerisms, the speech, his moves, I can tell Austin gave it his all and I think we can all appreciate that. Tom Hanks as the Colonel was a true villain and foil to the story. I enjoyed the narration from him which added to the tone of this cautionary tale. I gave a review back in July so if you wanna see more head over there. But this is definitely one of the better biopics.
Tumblr media
Last mention I wanna give is the movie Turning Red from Pixar/Disney Plus (7/10)
This is a true coming of age story I can get behind. I gave my review for this back in March so if you wanna see my full thoughts on it, go check it out. This film is unique for so many reasons and I can say I enjoy this film, I watched it twice and I enjoy the animation style and how it takes inspiration from anime as well. The characters are a fun to watch and the mature themes here are done well and respectively. I wish more Disney films were like this but you know them. Luckily Pixar is doing their best to bring us unique stories and great animation trying something new each time. I may not be the targeted audience for this film, but even I can recognize the passion that went into it and I feel it's a film for young teens and even adults to enjoy.
Now for the moment you've all been waiting for, the Number one movie of 2022 goes to....
Tumblr media
Number one goes to WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story from Funny or Die/Roku (10/10)
I'm sure no one saw this one coming, you're likely scratching your head and asking "first off..Weird Al has a movie on Roku?! Second...Why is this the best film of the year?!". Well stop asking so many questions and I'll tell ya! This film is technically a biopic just like Elvis or other biopics from other celebrities...but its a parody of that entire biopic genre. As we all know, these biopics tend to exaggerate the truth for the sake of the film being dramatic and entertaining, some things in the film are not quite what actually happened in the real life of that celebrity but rather exaggerated. Weird Al cranks that exaggeration and dramatic antics to the MAX! Unlike those other films, this is not meant to be taken at all serious and you can tell. The first half was already kind of exaggerated but was still telling the truth of how Al got his start in music (to a degree). But once we get to the second half of the film....it just goes hog wild and turns the film into full blown insanity and it is without a doubt hilarious! I got some Bohemian Rhapsody vibes from this movie with how Al starts out good but then gets into hard drinking, gets into a toxic relationship with Madonna, confronts Pablo Escobar to save Madonna only for her to take over the drug cartel....You can see why I said this is not meant to be taken seriously. It's all just a huge parody of celebrity biopics and its meant to be a joke and I love it! Weird Al was heavily involved with making this since he's still alive so I'm sure he would want to have a say in how it should be done and he's the one responsible for getting the boy who lived to portray him. Daniel Radcliffe did a phenomenal job as Weird Al being hilarious, dramatic and both at the same time and Weird Al himself actually has a role in the movie as not himself...but parodying an executive at a record label. This movie is just a fun watch, I was laughing the entire hour and a half. Each of these movies on my top 5 have something special, the Bad Guys are the best animated film, Doctor Strange is best Visuals in a film, Batman the best superhero film, Sonic is the best video game adaptation film, but Weird: the Al Yankovic story is not only the best Parody film, but the Best film of 2022!
Thanks for staying till the end, Hope everyone has a Happy New Year, and I can't wait for the content to come out in 2023!
See ya!
